3-0 out of 5 stars Get the Xbox brand instead
For the price, this isn't a bad card. But I've had very mixed success with InterAct products, and this card has proven to be no exception. Certainly, one will eventually need a memory card for the Xbox system--after all, using a memory card will save wear and tear on the system's built-in hard drive, and if you want to continue a game at a friend's house, then you'll need a memory card. But this one has some problems. Sometimes it loads slowly (something my Xbox brand card doesn't do), and on occasion it has lost games or only saved them partially. Perhaps I just got a bad one, and these problems aren't typical of these cards. But I've heard similar statements about it, so I'm hesitant to recommend it. My advice: Buy the Xbox brand card instead. True, it's more expensive, but it's a better quality card with a good record of reliability. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Xbox Variety Pack was named by Amazon.com customers on our Computer & Video Games Discussion Board. It includes the Xbox game system (and all necessary cables), adventure game Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, football game NFL Fever, and sci-fi action game Halo. The pack also includes an additional Xbox controller, so you can play your games with a friend, and a six-month subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly, so you can keep up on the latest game news, reviews, and previews.
Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you also add in DVD playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.

The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 MHz Intel main processor and 233 MHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multiplayer online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time, or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, voice-activated headsets, and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ, and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system means the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games. And games are what it's all about.

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room. --Mike Fehlauer ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Games and Powerful System but Problems. . .
I think on its face the system is 5 stars because of the power of the system and the quality of the games in terms of graphics and audio quality. In fact, when considering these aspects, I think the Xbox's games are much better than Playstation 2's.However, it is severely lacking in the construction of the system and length of warranty.I have had my system for a little over 30 days and I already have to send it in for servicing. Why does it need servicing? For all I can tell, I left it on for a couple of days with a game in the drive. It seems it shorted or burnt something out.I keep it in a well-ventilated area and have it attached to a good surge protector and the other audio or video components plugged into the same surge protector are fine.I think the problem is the system has no automatic standby (which makes no sense to me); instead, you have to turn on the 2 hour or so sleep timer (USE THIS IF YOU WANT YOUR SYSTEM TO LAST).I do not believe this is an isolated event because I know other people who own these systems who have had similar problems and read Amazon reviews where similar problems are described.

Another issue that I have with the system was its warranty, which is only 90 days, but when I called for servicing, I found out you can extend it for a year (even after the first 90 warranty expires) for $$$ and for around $$$ for an extra 2 years. It is extra money but at least you will not be left with a worthless box if it breaks down outside of the 90 days.

Additionally, on the Xbox's DVD remote, there is no power button or open tray button.I hate remotes without power buttons-they make no sense-especially, when they cost $$$ (like the one for the Xbox).

Another thing is the Microsoft does not make a coaxial digital audio out on its interconnects (only fiber optic Toslink) so if you want coaxial digital audio, you have to pay around for a Monster Cable interconnect.Otherwise, if you want digital audio, you have to spend for one of Microsoft's adapters and make sure you have a receiver with an empty Toslink input and then you have to buy a fiber optic cable...

Finally, the Xbox comes pretty stripped down (basic setup is a console and 1 controller) and if you want basic features (at least, what I would consider basic) like DVD and digital audio (...with a digital audio cable), carrying case, extended warranty ($$$), extra controller ($$$), S-Video ($$$, included with Microsoft's Advance AV Pack along with fiber optic digital audio), etc.It really starts to add up.I think the system should have DVD playback without a remote (which you should be able to program into a universal remote or at least, purchase for less than $30), digital audio, and S-Video built into the system not to mention a longer standard warranty.I believe that PlayStation 2 comes with DVD playback standard (without a remote) and possibly better standard audio and video features.

5-0 out of 5 stars great system
Comparing xbox to ps2 is like comparing a pc to a mac the mac is the pc for stupid people that dont know how to double click on an icon. Same with ps2 much less features not to confuse the not very smart people that buy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Xbox is the best console out there, but don't buy any "pack"
I am now the proud owner of an Xbox...After some serious searching, I figured out that I could get a the things I actually wanted for a lower price. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is because it comes with an xbox. By the way, if you are going to get an xbox, get the s-controller with it, it's a lot smaller and easier to manage. Don't listen to those freaks who own PS2(which [stinks]--just cuz it has more games doesn't mean they're good, and it came way before xbox, so it isn't as good) and Gamecube(also [stinks]--target market is 10 an under, and it's not as powerful) There, you've heard me rant, now buy an xbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars When I got my Xbox pack.........:)........*****5 stars!!!
The xbox is one of the most incredible machines of gaming systems out there and I'm proud to say it has the best graphics, music, sounds...etc.And I think it has SOME of the best games not all the games on xbox are too impressive when it comes to gameplay.BUt I would say the best games for xbox are Halo, Dead Or alive 3, Star Wars obiwan, and Max Payne.ANd Unreal championship looks that way too from the previews. And Jedi Knight 2:Jedi Outcast coming out for xbox and gamecube, so that might as well be ported over from PC to xbox and that also may be one of the finest game on xbox. But games like nlf fever 2002,
gunivike, mad dash, and tony hawk 2 just dont play the gameplay price when being created to fast and ending up lousy or being ported over from other game systems that are already look great just doesn't fit on xbox.BUT I STILL LOVE XBOX AND I THINK AND VIDEO/PC GAMER SHOULD GET IT.I RECCOMEND IT:)

5-0 out of 5 stars HALO is not the only good game..
OK, I'm writing this review because after reading over all the other reviews that have 1 or 2 stars, everyone always said the same thing, "Halo is only good game". This is complete nonsense. Not only does the Xbox have online capabilities launching in late summer/fall, which will add incredible replay value, BUT Xbox is getting a ton of great games later this year/early next year.

Crazy Taxi 3, Toe Jam & Earl 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Project Ego, Shenmue II (out for DC in Japan only), Ninja Gaiden, and Tao Feng (looking as good as Soul Calibur 2) are ALL Xbox exclusive games coming out later this year/early next year. If you say those are not good games you are absolutely nuts. Sure GameCube has Metroid and Star Fox adventures, but the new Zelda looks really bad, and Mario Sunshine is absolutely designed for children under 7 years of age, a definite stepdown from the N64 versions of those franchises.

You're entiled to your own opinions, but saying Halo is the only good game for Xbox makes you really sound like an idiot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME
Hold a ton of games, 2 small pockets that atleast i use for memory card holders, and a hook that hooks nicely onto my xbox system carry bag (or whatever it is called). I highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A CD/DVD case...nothing special
Basically all this is is a small black Nylon CD case with the green XBOX logo and about a dozen vinyl CD sleeves to hold your game discs.

I'm not a fan of these cases as it's very cramped on the interior and the vinyl sleeves do seem like they'll scratch your discs. The zipper is too big and bulky and there's nothing else here to get excited over.If you find yourself moving and travelling around a lot, I'd suggest finding a case with RIGID PLASTIC cd holder sleeves. This is fine, but overall, I just don't feel comfortable storing my XBOX game discs in it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but lacking...
If nothing else, this is a winner because of the Xbox logo on it.Having read the previous reviews, I suppose the zipper can be difficult to use, but then some people still can't tie their shoes...

It carries the games well and looks cool, but the little metal hook is slightly too big and the tiny pocket on the front is just that, tiny.I honestly don't know what you might put in there, but I guess it makes it look better.

All together a descent buy if you don't have something to hold your games.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's the beef?
I ordered two of these items on Dec 10, 2001. Despite repeated promises from Amazon.com customer service and advertising that states that this item "usually ships in 24 hrs" it has yet to ship. So don't disappoint your kids. If you want buy this product, go somewhere that has one to sell.

1-0 out of 5 stars Listen to the pro.
It is so horrible. It scatches my games, I can't get the zipper shut, and it is so forgetable. Just stick to the CD carrying cases, and you'll be fine! (Also sold by amazon, I think.) ... Read more
