5-0 out of 5 stars ***FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY***
My husband bought this game for me and our little boy and when I saw it I was'nt too excited about trying it out. However, after I played it-I could'nt stop! There is so many great things about this game!I spent 2 hours the first night I played it going through trying to learn new stunts- that is the best!I would highly suggest this game! Its only around $10 bucks new- can't go wrong in buying it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Carve is awsome!
I just finished playing the demo for this and it was pure fun. The graphics aren't the best, but when the controls are good and the game is fun, then who gives didly squat about the graphics. Plus it's an xbox live compatible game ands it only $19.99! This is a great buy. It's quite a bit like wave race 64. The stunt mode is amazing, but not quite as good as wave race 64. If you are having doubts about my review then just rent the game and see for yourself!

1-0 out of 5 stars should be no stars!
I bought this game because I really liked the old wave racer for Nintendo and was hoping for something close to this, but... first off The graphics are terrible for this, they are barely PS1 standards. To add to this, the water sprays onto your screen (which is a cool affect for the atv game they made for the xbox) but on this game due to the graphics already being bad, the water spraying adds to that horror of seeing the track. The controls are good, and the only good about the game.
Finally, I could have looked past the graphics, but it was the live mode that did it in for me. EVERYONE knows how to cheat on it, which completely defeats the purpose of the game, for example, I was racing a 5 lap race, some guy kept sitting at the starting line, and not moving, and I wondered what he was doing, then on the 5th lap he automatically went to first place and best lap. I originally thought it was my imagination, and played him again, and witnessed the same thing, I called him a cheating *profanity* and when he heard me say that he left the game in a hurry. So there it is, terrible graphics, and no point in playing it live. I was fortunate enough to get a good trade in on it so I didn't lose money, some of you might not be as fortunate! ... Read more

Super Bubble Pop is a bubble-based action puzzle game where the idea is to quickly and efficiently clear the grid of bubbles to advance to the next stage, while gaining as many points as possible. A crazy collection of DJs wait inside for their chance to become the ultimate popper. You pick from one of up to five characters, each with a unique Super Special Attack. You're given a sequence of bubbles, which can be fired down the grid to make lines of bubbles of the same color that will then pop. Bubbles can be burst along the horizontal or vertical by creating any line of three or more adjacent bubbles of the same color. Special attacks and bubbles keep the game play fast and furious. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Category: What were they thinking?
I know it is extremely tempting to purchase this game after being hypnotized by their promotional savvy.Looking at the pretty colors on the gamecase and reading the tagline "Puzzle Fun With Wild Music And Crazy Bubble Action" makes you quiver with excitement. However, you need to gather up every ounce of restraint you can muster and DO NOT buy this game!

The objective of the game is simple. You need to line up at least three bubbles of the same color either horizontally or vertically.Sadly, poor game design makes it difficult to line them up horizontally so, um, that doesn't leave you with much.

A game this basic seems odd to me due to the widespread ownership of computers. You can play pointless time-killers similar to this game on the Internet for free.We have, as a civilized society, progressed beyond the need to develop and charge people to play this sort of thing on their home gaming consoles. At least...I thought we had. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy NASCAR HEAT: Dirt to Daytona instead
Don't buy Thunder. It's not a bad game, just that you can better spend your money on NASCAR HEAT: Dirt to Daytona.Thunder only offers stock car racing whereas Heat offers *4* games in 1: Dirt/Go-Kart(modifieds)/Truck/and Stock Car and therefore Heat offers a lot more variety and fun!Buy NASCAR HEAT: Dirt to Daytona instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
nascar thunder is a great game.If you get a wheel for this game, then when you make turns your car will not go all over the place.I like the challenges and trying to break a record on each track or become a legend. What I think they should have done to nascar thunder is to let you make your own custom track. Also this game could of had a bit better graphics. What I like to do is turn off the yellow flag for season or career so that I can turn around on the track and go the other way and hit the cars straight on.Its a lot of fun.Overall, this game is the greatest.I recommend this game to anybody that loves nascar because this is the best nascar game that you will find.

5-0 out of 5 stars NASCAR done right!
I played last years version and was pleased with the progress it was making. This year its 2002 version times 10!

Pros: 1. NASCAR is better than ever!

2. last years tweaks are fixed

3. an improvement in graphics

4. outstanding career mode

5. so many modes, that it will keep you busy for months!

6. the ability to import songs is available

Cons: 1. physics take some time to get used to

2. first years of career mode are frustrating due to crapiness of car and crew

Final Verdict: A definite buy! as i said earlier, it will keep you busy for months

5-0 out of 5 stars EA Sports finally gets it right!
This game is a great response to Nascar Heat. They include challenges, driving tests, and unlockables along with the stunning graphics to create what is probably the best Nascar game out there.
The realism is great, and I also appreciated that you can plug in your own soundtrack! If you love Nascar racing, this is a definite must buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best racing games ever
This game is a blast to play and is one of the best racing games ever made.I am a huge racing fan (World Rally, F1 and CART) and even though I am not particularly fond of NASCAR I thoroughly enjoy playing this game. The graphics are amazing, the AI is very intelligent (heck I'm still trying to win races in veteran mode) the sound is ok but the game more than makes up for it with the attention to detail that it gives and will satisfy any hardcore NASCAR fan.For example, before every race there are driver introductions and the national anthem which you can of course bypass.Having them both really adds to the atmosphere of being at the race. The pitstops are pretty fun to watch during the race as well. And of course the game allows you to do the celebratory doughnuts everytime you win a race. The game also includes a victory celbration in winners circle.I particularly like the night races because for some reason the graphics just look better. If you are looking for a realistic, fun packed game that will keep you entertained for hours on end then you won't be disappointed with this one. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Come on People
Geez, guys,It is a slot car game, not an actual race car game.Of course you can't steer your vehicle.Didn't you play with slot cars when you were kid.
This is a fun game and my wife will actually play it with me because you don't have to worry about the steering. You can and have to switch lanes so it not like you just hold the button and you win.
This game has made me want to go out and buy an actual slot car set again.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a budget title, but lots of fun.
Ok, it's a SLOT CAR game. That means the cars race on Slot Car tracks, in the Slots. Most of you have gotten this point without my help. Someone out there has evidently missed it though.

Grooverider is a small, game with only 20 track and a few cars to choose from. Each class of cars has 5 different skins but they are all on the exact same mesh which is a bit cheap. Still, they look very good. And the tracks all are very well designed and conceived with an escalating level of difficulty.

The feel is very much like a few titles you might not remember but were well worthwhile... the excellent Airfix Dogfighter from Paradox and Acclaim Cheltenham's Re-Volt come to mind. The tracks are set up in a house which could be in anyone's childhood. If you are an adult with fond memories of slot car racing it helps a great deal. If you are a child whose not enjoying his 'hood at present you might well pass this by.

The controls are very simple, analog speed and shoulder buttons to change lanes. The standard variety of power up one might expect in any arcade racer is here. Obstacles, very feisty CPU cars and some tricky tracks make the action much deeper than one might imagine. It is NOT a slot car Simulation, it IS a fun little arcade racer with fast little slot cars.

The music is a sore point. Annoyingly bad techno accompanies each track. It isn't that I hate techno either. It's that I hate BAD techno. Turn of the tunes for a much improved nostalgia experience.

The GameCube version is exactly identical BTW. Simple to pick up and easy to put down. A quick, fun diversion from more serious passtimes. I actually would recommend this for folks with an open enough mind not to make fun of it before looking at it based solely on the subject matter. Like the entire gaming press did from the IGN, UGO and Gamespy to even rosey magazines like Nintendo Power and EGM. It's no Sega GT or Project Gotham Racing 2 but you didn't need me to tell you that!

4-0 out of 5 stars YOU CAN'T DO WHAT?
This is a racing game that looks simple. Only one big problem! YOU CAN'T STEER YOUR VEHICLE! This is a very bad idea! One of the worst games ever! ... Read more

NFL Blitz 2002 has been completely reinvented by the original creators of the NFL Blitz arcade game to take advantage of the powerful next-generation platforms. All of the 3-D player models, NFL stadiums, and over-the-top animations have been re-created, along with the team-specific plays and intense sound effects.

The new impact player option allows the gamer to edit the route or assignment in any play in the team's playbook. There's an all-new running game AI, and more than 1,500 brand-new catches, sticks, and hits, including some animations that were motion-captured using professional stuntmen swinging from rigging wires. Real-player stats, abilities, attributes, and attitudes add detailed realism to the game. The enhanced Create-a-Player mode allows the user to not only select the player's height, weight, and position, but also the uniform, face, head size and type, size of pads, facemask, and more. The game features enormous 3-D player models, with bulging muscles and real-player faces.

The over-the-top gameplay features players leaping, soaring, diving for passes, stiff-arming, the bulldozing and railroading of would-be defenders, and precision passing. Intuitive, fast-action, extreme-style controls allow for quick-response gameplay. The game is equipped with the original NFL Blitz point-'n'-pass system and icon passing. Dynamic camera angles capture all of the deep crossing routes and monster sticks by the linebackers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars nfl blitz 2002
it rocks!!!!!!!! i am really glad i bought an xbox because not is it only fun but the graphics and gameplay is awesome. and i think it is okay to make suggestions but i hate it when people give a great game a bad rating because of little things. like every game should not be sold out...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Arcade Football Game
When you purchase NFL Blitz you are getting a great Arcade Football game. You are not however getting a great Football game. Here's the difference.

NFL Blitz is a very fun enjoyable game with hard hits, imaginative commentary and very fast game play.It is a great game to play against a buddy because the hits and commentary make the game a social event.Playing by yourself is a totally different thing. For instance, if you prefer to grind the ball down the field, amassing 3 rushing yards per play while executing a NFC East type offense, avoid this game at all costs.

You can pick this game up and start playing with little or no practice. This is, both an advantage and a disadvantage. For one, no matter how much you practice, the games moves as such a fast pace that planning and practice make little difference. It is a game of reflexes, the faster the better. The graphics are great, the hits are fierce and the total game environment is above average.

There is no problem with recommending this game, just be aware that you are getting an arcade football game that is totally apart from a simulation or even half a simulation for that matter....

Hope this helps...

Go Giants!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rules
I'm a huge fan of the nfl blitz games. What makes them so good are the user freindly interface, the addictive fun and the arcade cade like feel after all it is the 3rd sequel to game based on a arcade game also the controls are ultra simple and easy. I love this game. I don't care about the create a player features and a all of the sports stuff. I just like playing the football game. I love its arcade like gemeplay. If you're for a realistic football game look elsewhere. But if you want endless hours of arcade style football fun get this game. And get it while they've got this bargain price. The graphics I don't no but I think the NFL blitz the first version had better graphics because I played it in the arcade before and on my N64.
Pros: Arcade like feel
User freindly interface
Ultra simple controls
Very fun and addictive
Graphics are pretty good but on the xbox they could of made them ten times better
Cons: NfL blitz one for N64 and arcade have better or equal graphics the psx graphics are probaly awful for NFL blitz one

5-0 out of 5 stars blitz 2002
Blitz 2002 is now better than ever. in my opinion it is one of the best games. it is fast paced and really hard hitting. Blitz is also a great buy ... there are a bunch of cheats ... BLitz 2002 is also a great multiplayer game. the graphics are easily the best out there...

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice graphics, iffy controls
I just got NFL Blitz for the Xbox last weekend. I had played the PS2 version before and with that in mind, this game is an exact port of that version. The graphics are a lot sharper with the anti-aliasing of the Xbox however. The sounds are pretty much the same.
Gameplay is similiar to the Blitzes of old, but with the inclusion of newer plays, animations, and a extra man who is like a wild card of sorts. On offense, you can have him stay to block, hand off the ball to him, or get open. On defense, you can have him blitz or stay in coverage. This new feature doesn't add or detract to the game. It makes Blitz 2002 a little bit more different.
The pacing of this game is a lot slower than before. I've played the original Blitz and Blitz 2002 3dfx PC versions and those have a much higher framerate than this Xbox and PS2 version. This version has the pacing of NFL Fever, which gives the game a totally different feeling. I guess you just have to approach this version of Blitz differently than previous versions.
The controls are my biggest concern. You are limited in the mapping of the buttons as with the PS2 version. The biggest gripe is that the turbo button is the right trigger by default. There is so much play in the Xbox control's triggers that it's almost impossible to double tap for the spin move. The controls make the game a bit harder than it actually is.
This Xbox version was ported over by the Point of View team which was responsible for the PC ports of the past. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Life's too short to spend it going in circles.
"NASCAR Heat" gives you the chance to feel what it's like to be your favorite NASCAR driver. That is...you feel everything except the thrill and danger of the actual experience. That pretty much leaves you with the tedious experience of driving around an oval racetrack for an obscene number of laps.Yay!

It was a nice try on Atari's part to include a full racing field. The attempt at realism ultimately doesn't work out though because that many cars causes a slowdown in the framerate. The controls are flighty enough as it is but the stuttering in the framerate makes it a chore to keep your car on its intended path.

The only remotely fun element of "NASCAR Heat" is trying to causebig pile-ups.If you agree, then you probably have already played "Burnout 2" and that blows this game away.Perhaps NASCAR fanatics enjoy racing around and around and around for 100 or 200 or even 500(!!) laps.Maybe there's fun to be had to repeat that task on a total of 19 tracks.Personally, I found this game to be lacking in excitement and I consider it to be both a waste of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heat Better Than Thunder!
When I first popped"Nascar Heat" into my X-Box I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. The graphics don't look as impressive as they do with "Nascar Thunder". But as I started to play they game I realized there was no comparison. The race cars have a better feel about them.If you play in the Hardcore mode, (No driver aids) the way I always do, you quickly realize this game is tough too beat. It's harder to win than any other racing game I have.(That's saying a lot.)Both "Thunder" and "Heat have problems with their two road racing courses, way too much slow down."Heat" is almost impossible to drive on the two road courses with the driving aids turned off.But on the short Nascar ovals "Heat" has it all over "Thunder".The one funny thing about "Heat" is that there is no way to speed up the process when a yellow comes out.You have to wait for the pits to open, (Just like the real Nascar) and then you have to wait several laps before going back to green. My advice, get up and stretch and have a cup and coffee, and be ready to go back to green. Can't wait for this game to get updated.Nowget out there and buy a racing wheel and pedals, and you'll never go back to hand controllers again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun, But Not Exciting
-Chad Steingraber-
-Paradigm/Infogrames-
-Level Designer/Game Designer/3D Artist on The Terminator: Dawn of Fate-

I must admit, this is the first NASCAR game I've ever played...so, I can't compare it to another NASCAR game.I thought is was pretty cool, it had really good graphics and the driving physics were pretty realistic.I found myself trying to create car wrecks as much as possible...it was just fun to watch a 10 car pile up.I played an entire season and took first place....and this is why I quit playing feeling dissapointed:There was nothing to award the player for taking first place!NOTHING!At least, AT LEAST a floating gold cup spinning around with "You Win!" at the bottom.Come on guys, that was just plain dumb.

It was a fun game, but I found that after playing one season (with no reward) there was no reason to play it again. If you love NASCAR, this game would be good....if you just want to see cool cars driving around, rent it first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
I'm not really a Nascar fan but I do love racing games. This one is a hoot! Here's the deal:I bought Nascar Thunder but I also own Nascar Heat because my girlfriend bought it the same day as a surprise to me.So here I was with two Nascar games and I've kept them both.As far as true racing and competition, Nascar Thunder is the better racing game.It has a create-a-car option and most of the real Nascar drivers. The graphics aren't as good as Heat though. If you're into better graphics and bigger, fiery crashes, Nascar Heat is the way to go.Sometimes I create havoc on the track just to watch the replays of the crashes. You can create a lot more mayhem on Heat than Thunder...and that's why I love it.The only problem with Heat is they don't have all the drivers.Half the cars in a race are just fake, generic cars.I play both a lot, but if I could only pick one - I'd give a slight edge to Nascar Heat. But you really can't go wrong with either one. Both are great games that you can pick up anytime for a few minutes (or hours) of fun.If you love great wrecks, get Heat.Great racing, get Thunder.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good things, bad things
I have Nascar Heat and Nascar Thunder. On the good side, Nascar heat is more of a simulation, meaning the driving is a bit more realistic and if you know a little about Nascar racing, you can adjust your car in about every way possible. In Thunder, you can only adjust tire pressure, spoiler angle, and gear ratios. In this game, you can adjust individual tire pressure, spring rates, wedge...the more technical stuff. The "in-car" view is better in Heat because you can look left and right, which I'm pretty sure you can't do in Thunder, which to me makes it unplayable.I think Heat sounds more like Nascar than Thunder does. The graphics are about the same.

ON the bad side, if you have the Mad Catz steering wheel, you can't up shift using the gear selector. There are only three controller configurations, and you can't customize them.Drivers are limited to 20, and there are only 19 tracks.

So basically, Heat is more of a simulation, but you can't use a steering wheel with a manual transmission, a lot of drivers/cars are omitted, and a few tracks are missing. If future versions of Heat fix these things, then I'd prefer Heat.As it is, I prefer Thunder. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Mr. Madden's football games continue to be the titles against which allother gridiron games will be judged. Considering that Madden NFL 2002 isthe Xbox's first contribution to the series, it's a triumphant debut indeed.Everything that we've come to know and love about the console Madden games hasmade it to the Xbox. This version even has minimal but noticeable upgrades fromthe PlayStation2 edition.

Gameplay is almost exactly the same as Madden NFL 2002 on the otherconsoles, with key differences relating to the enormous Xbox controller. Ifyou're not a fan of the Microsoft controller's ill-placed black-and-whitebuttons, you'll be happy to see they aren't used too frequently.

The artificial intelligence exhibited by the Xbox-controlled players seems to beequivalent to that of the very smart PS2 version. In other words, expect aslow-paced, competent game that will challenge you for every yard.

The graphics, however, have been slightly tweaked for the extra pixel-pushingabilities of Microsoft's console. Helmets get scratched and dirt, grass, andother filth accumulates on player uniforms. Players are somewhat sharper andsmoother than in the great-looking PS2 version, plus people with widescreen TVscan view the entire offensive and defensive lines without having to pan left orright. All in all, the improvements over the PS2 version are slight, but they doadd to the atmosphere of the game.

Also retained are the two-minute drills, teaching modes, and Madden Cards fromthe other versions. Sadly, repetitive and droll announcing by Pat "What Game IsHe Watching?" Summerall and John "Blandly Stating the Obvious" Madden didn't getupgraded. One or both of these guys need to hang up their microphones in ahurry. Also, the game still puts way too much emphasis on the passing game, leading to sometimes inflated QB stats.

If you've enjoyed the Madden series on other consoles, you'll love this 2002edition. The legendary Madden gameplay is better than ever, and the games havenever looked this good. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • A great football game that plays like its PS2 counterpart
  • Aside from picking receivers, the black-and-white buttons on Microsoft'squestionably designed controller get minimal usage
  • Some visual upgrades, including dirty players and somewhat sharper graphics, from other versions
Cons:
  • Lethargic commentary by Madden and Summerall
  • Gameplay differences between this and PS2 version are minimal at best; don'tbuy both
  • Emphasis on passing can lead to inflated stats

2-0 out of 5 stars holding penalties are ridiculous
Great graphics and some very realistic features but I am furious over the number of holding plays I keep getting especially when I use a superior team over another i.e. the all madden team vs. a regular team. The regular team rarely gets called for holding while I get called nearly a third of the time and on running downs. THAT IS BULL PLOP.

The commentary also needs a lot of workon better coordinating and adding many more so we don't hear the same thing over and over.

Also there are waaaay to many receivers dropping the ball on well thrown passes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Madden 2002, great game
If you like the Madden series, you will love this game. The graphics are astonashing, and the gameplay is amazing. It is a little slow looking at times, but none the less it is such a fun game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best football game for 2002.
This was a great game to get in 2002. Dont bother now, get 2003 but only for the better rosters. I guess you could do this in 2002 but you need to update stats and trade players away, ex. Ricky Williams to the dolphins but it might take a while. ALso you can't add players to the Texans. The controls and gameplay is great. The commentary is average but the player models look fantastic with real-life faces that you can make. You could make a moustached-bearded 400 pound guy or a little, bald, 160 pound kicker. Overall- a great port.

1-0 out of 5 stars It sucks!
This game has OK graphics. It's gameplay SUCKS, everything SUCKS!

4-0 out of 5 stars Addictive
Madden 2002 is an awesome football game! You will be amazed at the graphics on this game. One of the cool things about Madden 2002 is the training camp mode that teaches you how to do every play! Madden 2002 is a great game to try. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Game
ASB is a very strong game. The graphics are well polished. I could easily tell that Derek Jeter is Derek Jeter and Bret Boone is Bret Boone because they even did detail on the players' faces!! The control is very simple. Fielding is relatively easy. Gameplay is usually sharp but is a little awkward occasionally. For example, if the CF is charging a ball, he will look like he is going to throw to second. His whole body is facing the second baseman but he throws to third. That is one of two bad things about this game. The other bad thing is that the fielders make at least 20 amazing plays per game. Sound is absolutely superb. It has everything any sports gamer would expect. The option to "buy" cards is really cool. And accomplishing great feats (two homers for the same batter, double play, ect.) rewards with "card points" which you use to buy the cards. The game is really fun but be warned: it is very difficult to master and will take about a week and a half for the average gamer.

4-0 out of 5 stars this game is deep
Well to be honest so far I don`t mind this game however with that said the bigest problem I face with it is batting control ?
I have practised my batting for a while in the special batting section but I still don`t think it has very good control (maybe its just me ?) the rest of the game is very good and up to the usual standerds set by other sports orientated games on the X BOX.
I got this game for $... Australian so overall I`m happy with it, but had I paid full price for it then maybe not. Don`t listen to the 1 or 2 star rating reviews I think those reviewers maybe expected to much. Its realistic has good graphics and loads of options and rewards like base ball cards to collect. It perhaps takes on more than just being an arcade style sports game and goes into areas of management, this game is deep but not over complicated.

1-0 out of 5 stars All Star Baseball
Let's just say this game was definitely one of the worst games ever put out for the x-box. Buying this game would be a total and absolute waste of money if you want a good baseball game get Triple Play 2002 for the same amount! PLEASE I BEG YOU NOT TO WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ........ VERY POOR GAME!It's graphics are very very ....... i dont know not good i guess,IT IS A DISGRACE TO THE X BOX AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PUT OUT!whoever made this game, geez I don't know what he was thinkin, you can't contyrol the guys worth a ....In conclusion once again DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT, WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS VERY ..... PRODUCT

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Baseball Game EVER!
Dont listen to everyone saying that this game is too hard, if you dont like the batting cursor, go to options and change to eays batting dopeheads! The graphics and gameplay are far superior to Triple Play and World Series. The franchise mode is really great but can only play 162 game seasons. You should get this, dont listen to everyone giving this a 1-2/5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Baseball game.
All Star Baseball 2003 is a great game. It looks and plays really well. You also have a ton of options to chose from...like alternate, throwback, or current uniforms for each team. There's an expansion mode in which you can create your own MLB team, put them in a new city with a new park. I'm amazed at how much attention to detail acclaim paid in this game. In the Franchise mode, you have a farm team to keep track of how well your young guys are developing, as well as a plethora of managerial and everyday stats. You can even check the weather report for the game, and it DOES make a diffrence in how the game is played (how well the ball travels, etc.)

This is a great game, and I'd recommend it to any sports fan. There's a ton of options so you wont get bored until All Star Baseball 2004! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NBA LIVE 2002, Its in the game
If you have played the 2003 and 2004 versions of NBA LIVE and played this version, you will find that they are pretty much the same. Especially the 2003, Players all look pretty much the same and there are not any new moves at all. NBA Live 2004 made some improvement but some of the AI is not tolerable. This game has great AI, and great game play with alot of flashy dunks. Sure some of the guys faces doesnt look as good as the 2003 or 2004, and sure, Michael Jordan still plays in this game, and yeh, Nba Live 2004 has that option where you can choose your favorite team and their colors and players will be showing int he menu, but so what? Aren't these sport games all about gameplay??? Petty features should be ignored and we should not encourage EA to make a sport game every year if the roster is THE ONLY thing to be changed. THis is definitely a cheaper but more worth your money NBA Live.

Gameplay:9
Sound: 8.5
Graphics: 8.5
Replay Value: 9
Overall: 8.75

2-0 out of 5 stars A unrefined game.
The problem about this game is that there is no defense, which means that the only thing that you can do is drive in with the turbo button, then dunk.*sucks.*YOu can roast the AI doing this.Bleg.

2-0 out of 5 stars wheres the Defense
well i've been probably one of the biggest NBA live fans from NBA Live 95 on SNES to current....but wow, this was not very good
graphics and stuff are whatever, they dont really matter ALL that much in a basketball game
crossover and 'stutter step', theres no stutter...
umm, and the worst thing about the game, there's no defense
i was playing it at a friends place and even a person who's never played a basketball game could possibly score on every posession...theres no DEFENSE played by the computer and it is very hard to play defense as a user
holla

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Minor Flaws...
First things first: This game was a blast, with excellent gameplay, options, and overall depth. Here's what I thought of the XBOX version of NBA Live 2002 by EA Sports:

1. Gameplay: Excellent in almost every way.Unlike in the older versions, now when you play a good team like the Lakers, it's a lot more difficult to win then when you play someone like the Bulls.I've played a season so far in franchise mode, and I have to admit, it was very addicting.Anyone remember playing the old versions of Live, and finding it so easy on the hardest mode to go 35-0 to begin a season? Not the case here. After probably 50 hours or more of gameplay, I still lose 2 or 3 out of every 10 games. And in the big games, playoffs, or against a team like the Mavs, Lakers, Kinds, etc...you really feel the pressure to win.The AI plays smart, the players and bench react, and the crowd cheers with you on big plays, suddenly goes mute when the other team goes on a run.The reason I love this game, NBA Live's gameplay rocks anything we've seen so far!

The graphics: Very good, but not superb. It's really cool to see a 3-pointer swish threw the net once, then rattle around and go in the next. The ball goes in or out different ways now.Example: in past versions, the ball would just CLANK off the rim or SWISH if it went in.No other animation. Now I never know if it's going to go in or out, and it rattles around a different way every time. The dunks in this game are simply put: AWSOME!!!You never see the same dunk twice, and the twists and spins are incredible to watch. The players as well now look great. You can now clearly tell the difference between big 'ole Shaq and a much smaller Kobe Bryant. The graphics bring this game to life.Where the graphics fail you may ask? There isn't any differnce between one pass or steal and another. No behind the back, no diving for lose balls, no jaw dropping blocks. It gets the job done, but nothing else.I guess we're just spoiled in today's time, but parts of the game are just too simple!

3. Options: Once again: very good, but not great. You can do the usual 1 on 1, exibition, season, franchise, 5 on 5.There's still create a player. But unlike in NBA 2k2, you can't do anything but 1 on 1.No 2 on 2, 3 on 3.In streetball, only one court. In franchise mode (this really killed me) no FANTASY DRAFT.AHHHHHHHH!!!I used to love that, and it always seemed to create a new challenge. But for some reason, no fantasy draft in the 2002 version.WHY???Who knows.Oh, one more thing: No real cash. It's a points system. If you want to re-sign your star, you offer him what...250,000 points?Just make it regular cash like everybody else.I hate the points system.

Overall though, this game rocked.I have probably played it for close to 60 hours, and I still can't put it down.If you want a good basketball game, with the best graphics, gameplay, and overall realism of the NBA.NBA Live 2002 is for you!

Thx!

1-0 out of 5 stars ARE THESE PEOPLE STUPID?
you have got to be kidding me, how can this game be getting all these great reviews. this is quite possibly the worst b-ball game i have ever played (next to espn nba tonite). Nba live 98 is seriously better than this. this cant compare to nba 2k2 on any level. the gameplay is horendous. the graphics are horendous. the concepts are horendous. Please buy nba 2k2 instead of this. the people giving this a good rating must have been hired by EA sports or something. Trust me, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall great game with random mishaps throughout
This game is definitely a decent buy with tons of great features and great gameplay, but the casual mistakes made because of careless oversights throughout the game come close to ruining some of its would be better moments.Listed below are some of the features and blunders that may or may not want you to make this your game.

Visual Effects:Because of Sega's mastery of making a great looking game (much better than their attempts at making their own videogame systems) and the power of the Xbox, this game is one of the best looking NHL videogames out there (outside of maybe only Sega's NHL 2K4).The cutscenes are dazzling and the in-game play is crisp and well-defined.Even the crowds in the stands are looking better with each year's release (though at this point, they are still "paper cut-out people").You can see the ice effects as play goes on, watch closely as a player can kick the puck with their skate up to their stick for a shot, and the reaction from the players on the bench as plays are made.

Gameplay:The action from the Xbox controller to the skater on the ice is both rather intuitive and seamless. You can easily poke, check, poke-check, dive, skate backwards, wrap-around, grab a puck out of the air, hook, cross-check, charge, board, one-time a shot, float a pass, deke a defenseman, deflect a shot, block a shot, punch, grab, and the list goes on and on.There is a great deal of functionality based on very simple controller manipulation, using the left shoulder button as an Alternate button and players reacting to buttons differently depending on their situation, surrounding and condition.

ESPN: An absolutely huge feature of this game is the authorization of ESPN to use their likeness, from the Sportscenter motif to Bill Clement and Gary Thorne on commentary. The other games out there might be really good, but they don't have the magic of playing the game as if you are really watching a game broadcast on ESPN.The only thing better would be if you became an actually player in the NHL.

Players' Appearance: The players in Sega NHL 2K3 visually look much more like the real-life players than any other game yet.Steve Yzerman looks like Steve Yzerman, Peter Forsberg looks like Peter Forsberg--its pretty cool. They do not have the same deatil in expression (angry, happy, tired, etc.) as EA's NHL 2003 does, but EA's version of the players don't look like the actual players at all.

Injuries: This has to be one of the lousiest implemented features in the entire game. While it seems like a great idea to have realistic injuries during the course of the season, complete with putting players on the IR and watching as their status improves so you can put them back in the game, Sega somehow managed to make it completely unrealistic, then not fix it.Every game you play will leave you with around four or five injuries, one of which usually is a major injury (broken leg, broken shoulder, etc.) which leaves a player out for months. At this rate, your entire team will be players you pull out of the minors and all your stars will be gone by November in the season. There is a slidebar that controls the frequency of injuries, but even on the lowest setting your team will be decimated after a couple of games.

Line Changes: There is a problem that you might run into with line changes if you like to play with several people and have fixed positions on the ice (Sam is always left wing, Joe is always center, Kim is always right defense, etc.).When you call for a line change, the players only skate to the ice and change when you are not controlling them. When the game is set so that you automatically become whichever player has the puck, this is no problem, but with fixed positions you never change skaters, soyour skater can't perform a line change. This will become a problem when play continues for five minutes straight. They fixed this problem in NHL 2K4.

SportsCenter Theme Menu Music Hell: The most annoying part of the entire game is that every menu in the entire game has the SportsCenter Theme played while you make your selections. At first this is pretty cool, but over the course of planning your strategies and adjusting your line-up, the same song will play about fifty times--driving you quickly into a fit of chaotic rage. They fixed this problem in NHL 2K4.

Stanley Cup [Beware--End of Playoff Spoiler]: The most disappointing part of the entire game is when you spend months working your way through the regular season with your team of choice, planning out every detail, toiling, working, sweating (virtual sweat), make it into the playoffs, then work and toil some more, just to find the most underwhelming ending they could possibly think of.All that happens if you win the Stanley Cup is a player magically has The Cup in his hands as he skates around, other players bumping into him randomly, then the game ends--that's it!No special cut-scene, no awards ceremony (you don't get to see who wins Conn Smythe, Norris, Hart, etc.You do not even get the obligitory "Congratulations, you won!" message--Sega just treats it like any other game. This may sound like a petty, red-faced rant to some, but you have to understand how incredibly disappointing that ending is after spending so long trying to get there.I hope they fixed this problem in NHL 2K4, but I'm still playing through the season.

Xbox Live: The greatest feature of Sega's NHL Hockey on the Xbox is the ability to play games with other people via Xbox live. The real players are much more gratifying to defeat than the computer. It can be hours of fun getting together with friends for a late night hockey skirmish without having to worry about the bruises.

The results of this study have overall shown me that while there are certain parts of Sega's NHL 2K3 that are fantastic, but these are mostly due to the Xbox and ESPN, not Sega.EA's NHL 2003, while not quite as visually dazzling, is much more well thought out and executed. The best would be an EA NHL game on the Xbox powered by ESPN, but until that day comes, the choice is clear. If you have Xbox Live, get Sega's NHL 2K3, but if you don't, get EA's NHL 2003.

2-0 out of 5 stars certains bugs viennent tout gacher

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the worst hockey game!!
This is the worst hockey game made for this season. This game looks like it was made in the eighties! I rented Hitz and the gave me this by accident. I played it for about twenty minutes and i was so disgusted I didn't touch it again. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone except as a very last resort. After a bout five minutes of playing I had counted three animation glitches and five sound ones. This game was so horrible my family who doesn't know much about games even thought it was horrible. I have been to three rental stores and four different department stores and the highest and the highest anyone gave it was 4/10.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why all the raves?
I partially owe my love of hockey to NHL '93 on Sega Genesis, and I have played most hockey games since then.I find this one to deliver the least amount of fun and highest amount of frustration of any that I have played.

Here is my laundry list of problems with this game, some that I would consider major and some that I would consider peeves:

1. Graphics
This game looks like N64/PS1 graphics.Games wind up being the dark blobs vs. the light blobs, as far as I can tell.

2. AI

Players skate right past the puck when they're under computer control. The only thing the AI does on defense is collapse everyone in front of the net.

3. Player Differentiation
Every player plays just like every other player.Paul Kariya can hit as hard as Chris Chelios.Adam Foote is as fast as Mike Modano, with turbo, on the breakaway. They all look the same. They all play the same.EA Sports' system of Heroes and Big Hitters sure looks brilliant in comparison.

4. Commentators

This game licenses elements from ESPN--why do we get Mono and Tone for commentators? They're boring and repetitive. How about Gary Thorne and Clement, Clement, hands of cement?Or Dave Strader and Darren Pang?Barry Melrose's machine-gun laugh before a game?John Buccigross saying "He is clutch, and clutch is everything in life?"

Commentary typically sounds like this: "He's going to have to continue to make saves like that if the" (pause) (insert team name here) (pause) "are going to have any chance!"

(The worst error: when I won the Stanley Cup, the commentators said, and I quote, "The Stars are one step closer to the Stanley Cup!")

5. Soundtrack
If you like the same cheesy organ riffs over and over, this soundtrack is for you!

6. Officiating
The puck-carrier can get a penalty for hooking.Yeah, right, Sega! And the goalie can sit on an unplayable puck while 20 seconds run off the game clock before it's called "Puck Frozen."Oh, and then there are the random times that the puck is frozen for no reason...

7. Shooting/Scoring
This is the real killjoy of the game. It's very easy in NHL 2K3 to have 50 or 60 shots and not score a goal. There are only two shots that can score: skate in on the off-wing and deke the goalie to the inside, and take a slapshot from the faceoff circle.One-timers (the staple of EA Sports) rarely score.Redirections don't score. You can't cherry-pick just outside the crease. If a defenseman takes a slapshot from the point, it's almost always blocked, and never beats the goalie.

8. Default Settings
Team strategy settings default to manual for both player and AI teams. That's right, unless you choose to set the computer team to Automatic strategy changes, it uses the same strategy for the ENTIRE game, regardless of score. Also, the default voice mask for online play is Anonymous, which ranks somewhere between "nails on the chalkboard" and "Gilbert Gottfried" on the annoyance scale.

The only advantages that this game has over NHL 2003 is that it is XBox Live enabled, has the concept of a minor-league system, and has some nice along-the-boards gameplay.

It's a real shame that this game is as poor as it is.NHL 2K3's "controllability" of what you can do during the game is top-notch.It smartly uses the triggers as modifiers for other buttons to let you have real control over what the players do.The gameplay options are extremely customizable (but they left out the setting for "Fun").

All in all, rarely have I played a game that delivers less fun than NHL 2K3.

5-0 out of 5 stars Whhhhhhhoaaaaaaa! Bloody Under Rated
I've played some 30 gaming titles for the Xbox. There are times when you have your friends over and need a quick feel of sheer adrenaline. Thats when you put on Nhl Hitz. Its fast gameplay and swift graphics , added with player-player combats , added with the punchy music makes it one heck of a game. There aren't many games out there that match this game as far as the sheer fun of playing goes.

Features about this game that totally make it the king are the 4 players in one game option , the time outs and the fights, dozens of teams and surfaces to play on. It works just fine on the Xbox. Infact I think its ideal for the Xbox remote. People with controllers by other manufacturers could have a tough time though.

One thing I dislike about this game is the 9 minute game. You just cannot increase the 3 quarters being allotted 3 mins each. However a 9 minute game seems way equivalent to a half an hour battle.

P.S - I don't even know the rules of Ice Hockey or watch NHL but this game takes gameplaying to a new level of confidence and power.

Cheers

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest sports game
I'm not a huge fan of sport games. Too confusing. But this game was easy and fun. I don't own it, but my friends all do. I play it all the time when im at their house. You can check people (thats knocking them over) unlock new teams and faces to make your own team. One team you can unlock is a team full of clowns. Its really weird, but its cool! Its out for every console, but if you have a Gamecube or a Xbox, i would buy it for that. The game is 4 player so buying it for the PS2 would only let you play 2 player (unless you bought a attachment). I've never played hockey so i don't know all the rules and stuff, but there are no fouls or anything. You can get in fights. The loser has to go out of the game for the entire game while the winner is happy. Creating your own team is the best. When you buy more heads, you can make your team full of sharks or babys. Besides all the special features, there are all the teams in the normal league, and a campaign thing where you play teams from the real leauge. You play the teams with your own team.

All together, this game rocks! I was able to type all this and i don't even have the game. Just imagine what you could do WITH it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Arcade hockey.... but thats it
Hitz as with Blitz and all the other spinoff games created by midway is fun for a little while and quickly dies. The game is fast, almost so fast at times that you dont know where the puck is you just press shoot and pass as fast as you can. There is no room for skill as the arcade style allows no room for stategy just mindless skating around. The championship mode is a joke and lacks any depth.Dont buy this game or any of the Hitz titles I did thinking it would be worth the money and it simply isnt.Instead I recomend nhl 2k3 by Sega or if you want to save money nhl 2002 by EA they are both more realistic and overall more fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Arcade Fun.
If you want an accurate hockey sim then pass on this. However, if you're looking for some great arcade type of fun, then this is your game. It's fast paced and just plain fun. I could do without all the fighting in it though. It still kicks as an overall arcade style hockey game. It's all about good ole' smashmouth rock-n-roll hockey fun.

You can play against your friends or you can jump onto the same team and run havok through the game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Arcade-Style Hockey Game
If you're looking for a game with bone-crushing hits, realistic gameplay, amazing graphics, and lots of cool features, then NHL Hitz 20-02 is for you. There are three different modes in this game, all of which are great fun. In Exhibition mode, you pick two different teams, the jerseys they wear, and then you play a three period game (each period being three minutes) with no penalties, no offsides, an no icing. In franchise mode, you take your favorite NHL team through thirty games, trying t beat all thirty NHL teams in a quest for the Stanley Cup, and you must beat the team yu are currently playing in order to advance. Otherwise, you will be playing them ovrand over again until you beat them. In Franchise mode, you create a team and all the players on the team and play fifty games against NHL teams, the prize being the Midway Cup. As you play through NHL Hitz 20-02, you will earn new things with each win. In Exhibition and Championship modes, you will earn Credits to use to buy things like All-Star teams, fantasy arenas, and jerseys, the aount varying on wether you answer the trivia question after the game correctly, and what skill level you are playing on. In Franchise, you earn 6 Attribute points with each win and 2-3 with each correctly answered trivia question, which you can use to strengthen the players on your created team. Thisis and arcade-style hockey game with no penalties, icing, or offsides. So if you want a hockey simulation game, look elsewhere, but if you want hard hitting, fast-paced hockey, buythis game right now. It is worth every penny. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ESPN NFL 2K5
Though sold at a budget price, ESPN NFL 2K5 offers a feature-rich and responsive online football game. A bevy of new features permeate ESPN NFL 2K5, adding to the authenticity and realism the 2K series is known for. The V.I.P. System (Virtual Identity Profile) allows players to keep track of a human opponent's behavior, then save and re-load the behavior, allowing true competitive play at any time. Maximum Tackle gives gamers an unparalleled level of control from both sides of the field, as defenders decide whether to go for the basic wrap-up tackle, or a devastating big hit. ESPN's Chris Berman and Suzy Kolber headline an updated ESPN Presentation complete with stylized on-screen graphics, ESPN's exclusive Skycam and a full franchise show featuring ESPN personalities Mel Kiper, Jr. and Trey Wingo.

This game rivals Madden in every way and surpasses it in feature set... and it's only twenty dollars. Plus, it's out three weeks ahead of Madden. Fans of the series will love the improvements and continue to sing its praises. Those who haven't tried it yet should give it a look at the low price point. It's easily worth fifty bucks, but you don't have to spend that!

This is one of the finest sports experiences I've had the pleasure of enjoying. ESPN NFL 2K5 is a steal at $20. Even if you are a die-hard Madden fan, I highly recommend picking NFL 2K5.

well i do admitt the franchise mode is a little bit complicated, and yes you can save the franchise mode, it took me 20 min to figure out how.Well i been playing football games all my life so it was sorta like a walk in the park for me.Now the gameplay is the best part of this game, and that the most important part of any game. The only thing i hate about franchise mode is that you can't switch side, honesty i hate playing defence, i prefer offense all the time.

The main con of this game is all sport game including madden is that the announcer keep saying the same thing over again, so i just turn off their voice recording sound, and listen to the on field sound, the good part is you can rip your own music, so i listen to simple plan and vice squad and play football!

This game is far better than madden.

5-0 out of 5 stars really good
this game is really good. it is really realistic and it is for very cheap. it is very fun. i think it is a good buy

2-0 out of 5 stars Franchise mode is a NIGHTMARE
After being out of the gaming loop for years (my last system was a Sega Genesis) I got the itch to play games again.
Did a little research and kept hearing that the XBOX was the best system out there and that NFL2K5 was better than Madden.
I went out and both the XBOX and NFL2K5.
As far as game play, it's great. But that's where it ends.
After playing some warm up games for about a week, I decided to try franchise mode and play a season.
This is where the problems begin.
NOWHERE in the instruction manual does it explain how to save a game after playing week 1 and then return to play game two at a later date. It give absolutely ZERO information on how to do this. It also doen't give any information AT ALL about the franchise mode in any way.
Basically, the manual tells you franchise mode exists, that's it.
The franchise mode is the most complicated part of the game, yet NO information is printed in the manual about it or how to use it, zero, zilch, nothing.
The entire franchise mode is left for the player to figure out for themselves, half of the options are very difficult to figure out because there is no info printed in the manual about it.
The only info printed in the manual is what the buttons on the controller, do that's it.
If you're new to the system and the game you're f*cked.
How they can omit all this information from the manual is totally inexusable. Whoever was in charge of designing the manual should be FIRED.
The game plays great, but the franchsie mode is a total nightmare.
It could have been an awsome game but it may as well be in Chinese because I can't make heads or tails on how to save a played game in franchise mode and then return at a later date to play the second game on the schedule.
Instead they have tons of garbage that isn't needed like crib points and other useless nonsense.
I would have given this game 5 stars but it lost 3 stars due to the absolute absurdity of the franchsie mode, very confusing and not user friendly AT ALL.
Creatling profiles, overriding profiles, trying to exit a game after saving it but being told all the information and the profile will be lost, give me a break.
This is a great way to frustrate your customer base into not wanting to play your game.
The NFL probably decided on signing an exclusive deal with EA Sports after they tried using the fanchise mode on NFL2K5.
I've never seen that much important information about a game left out of the instruction manual, unbelievable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game Of All NFL
When I first saw NFL 2K5 for $20 I thought it might suck but this game did not disappoint me. Tons of features in this game. I play this all night. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Basketball to Ever Come out ! Believe Me
This game has so many options to choose from especially in the create-a-player menu form all branded shoes to cornrows headbands wristbands and fingertape. The Graphics clearly is better than nba 2k3's. So my advice to u is get this game because the gameplay and graphics are better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive
I have been playing this game for a couple of months now.It is very addictive.I have enjoyed it a lot.The only other basketball game I have played before it NBA Live 2001 on the PC.This game is much better than that one.I got a good price on it too.It was well worth the money. One of the things that makes it addictive is the create a player options, that allow you to create players. After each game you get to add points to your player's abilities based on how well he did in the game.I first created players that were 7' 10".But I was able to beat the other teams too easliy. So I made them about the same size as the other players to make it more competitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars NBA Inside Drive
This is a great game!I have not played the other Xbox basketball games.I bought this because it was less expensive than the others. It far exceeded my expectations. It's quite realistic (i.e., players mimic their real-life idiosyncrasies on the court). In addition, you can create players and control their appearances and abilities.I created a 7'10" version of myself (he actually looks like me), put him on the Knicks, and get to watch myself dunk over Shaq.

Get this game.If you're a basketball fan, you'll love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game with solid graphics!
I played NBA Inside Drive 2002 and at first I was slightly disappointed at how it looked compared to other b-ball games. Then when 2003 came out I got it and was immediately impressed. You can tell the difference between the two games, and 2003 is hands down a much better game. I've played NBA Live and didn't like how fast-paced it was. You can't really play defense like on Inside Drive and the A.I. seems to always make baskets. Its more realistic on Inside Drive 2003. The dunks are fantastic on this game. You get to play up to 25 seasons and defend your championship title. Another plus, which is one of the better positives to this game is the commentary. They have Kenny 'the Jet' Smith as a new addition. I've played up to 5 seasons on this game and I was shocked to hear new commentary that far into the game. The creators put together a fun game and made it solid in a lot of areas. This is definitely one to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!!!
NBA Inside Drive 2003 is made by the creators from the NFL Fever franchise. good simple games that are easy to play and lots of fun.

again, for more serious gamers, you might want NBA Live, but for those who just want to play, get Inside Drive 2003.

the players all look realisitic and the introductions are awsome! the game also includes Michael Jordan and some of the newer rookies like Manu Ginobili. the game doesn't include Yao Ming, but you can create him.

the team stadiums look awsome, and the crowd really gets into the game. this game is awsome! it's very smooth and very much fun to play. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City inspired a lot of tie-ins andlicensed material, but oddly enough one of the best 2002 Olympic-style sportsgames is based on the ESPN license and completely lacks Olympic rings, torches, and fanfare. But even without official Olympic magic, ESPN InternationalWinter Sports 2002 wins a gold thanks to smooth and simple play.

The game features just about every Winter Olympic sport worth watching: downhillalpine skiing, slalom skiing, bobsledding, half-pipe snowboarding, ski jumping, freestyle mogul skiing, speed skating, figure skating, and curling. Hockey isnotably absent from this list; the game developer rightly assumed that hockeyfans will be served by a dedicated hockey game such as NHL 2002.

The included events use clever but simple control schemes, and the basics ofeach event are explained with a tutorial designed to quickly teach you how toperform the necessary actions and go about the business of breaking records. Forexample, ski jumping involves quickly pressing two buttons and then a third tojump, the former two to extend your distance, and that third one again to land.Bobsledding mainly demands a smooth touch of the digital stick, and figureskating is a choreographed event wherein the player performs onscreen prompts. It's amusing that a game for the fancy Xbox system uses a control system basedon the old-school Track & Field arcade machine, but in the past 20 yearsnobody has come up with a better way to simulate Olympic sport.

While the controls may be dated, the graphics are unmistakably on the cuttingedge. The game looks brilliant, crisp and pure as the day after a light snow. The snow fans up when skiers turn, and the polygonal athletes have excellentfacial graphics. The presentation is fantastic and so is multiplayer with abuddy.

So, when Olympic fever strikes, even if the Olympics are long gone, you'll want to have a copy of Konami's ESPN International Winter Sports2002. --Bob Andrews

Pros:

  • Excellent controls and a wide range of sports to play
  • Looks fantastic
Cons:
  • The controls aren't really simulations; they can even be physically tiring
  • It's missing Olympic accouterments and athletes

4-0 out of 5 stars But it has curling!
While the reviewer from Redmont is correct on every count (poor training levels, steep learning curve, inconsistent graphic quality between games and lack of total control), I feel the game should get two points just for its inclusion of sports not normally handled by console games -- and while this category would include figure skating (go see how many console and computer games you can find with this one -- far less than snowboarding!) most importantly it includes curling... an extremely addictive sport once you get into it either as a participant or spectator (sort of like golf, which is also from Scotland: people who aren't addicts think it is slow and boring but once you pick up the nuances you can't get enough of it).

2-0 out of 5 stars boring and disappointing
We played this game recently and found it to be a letdown with people screaming,... First of all, it's a very simple game and offers very little. You have about 8 events in which to compete and a practice mode. What disappointed me about many of the events is the limited control you have over your athlete. For half-pipe snowboarding, you could only select between a very limited number of moves and then needed to rapidly hit a key combination in order to execute it successfully (and you lost points if you did not select the designated move that was flashing on the screen). I would rather have full control of the moves like in Amp for instance. Figureskating was even worse; you had no control whatsoever of the movements, instead having to quickly hit key combos that determine the performance and score of your skater, not which moves are executed. The CPU opponents were very difficult to beat. Most of the time, I would get 8th place even after hours of practicing (I'm no novice by the way, I do this for a living). There is no difficulty level either! The controls are very confusing and too steep of a learning curve. Each event had differing controls and for most of the events, the control scheme seemed more complex than needed. I personally would find it much easier to have the controls streamlined for each event, though some players might like the control variety. Keep in mind that in order to succeed in a few of the events, you had to rapidly hit A & B. Fans of the ancient arcade game, track & field might love this, but for me (maybe i'm too old), this only leads to sore fingers & quickly worn out controls. I would have liked more character background and a career mode with attributes that you can improve. Instead, you select generic characters with no background. The in-game music is pretty limited and a letdown as well. One positive thing about the game is that the graphics are really impressive and smooth with quick loading times. Overall, you might like this game if you want a simple, no frills sports title. For me, I found it quickly boring, frustrating and had little replay value. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars garbage
THIS IS BY FAR THE WORSE FOOTBALL GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED.THE GAME CONTROLS GIVE YOU NO FEEL FOR THE GAME LIKE MADDEN DOES AND EVERYTIME YOU THROW THE BALL IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOU GET INTERCEPTED.PLAYING THIS GARBAGE IS JUST LIKE WATCHING A FOOTBALL GAME ON TV.FEVER 2002 IS A MUCH MORE REALISTIC GAME THAN FEVER 2003, AS A MATTER OF FACT I GAVE MY FEVER 2003 TO A FRIEND FOR 2002 FEVER.MICROSOFT SHOULD'VE DONE EVERYTHING THAT MADDEN DID AND ADDED BETTER COMMENTARY AND THEY WOULD'VE HAD A WINNER.IM OUT MADDEN FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars not much different than from Fever 2002
the only real difference in NFL Fever 2003 is the updated lineups, the addition of the Houston Texans, and the additions of new music and towels on the players, but other than that, not much else changed.

game play is still good, and Fever is the kind of game you should get if you want to just have some fun. if you want more serious NFL play, then go after Madden.

Fever is todays Tecmo Bowl. simple and easy to play. still a good game. can't wait for Fever 2004.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok but not great
Well I bought this game and hoped it would be good. Well it's ok. What I like about the game is that it has the best graphics in a football game right now is has good gameplay, well somewhat. But the thing that bothers me the most is the the AI on Veteran is frustrating. I mean my god its like my guy is open and nobody is on him and he's going for a touchdown and then all of the sudden the Computer some how runs all the way over there and stops the ball I was screaming at my tv for hours. I mean every pass I throw they either stop or intercep the ball. Another thing that I hate that has been metioned in the other reviews is that the game is no different except maybe the graphics improved a slight bit, Woopty Freakin DOOO. I recommend that you keep fever 2002 and save your money on a better football game. It's to bad that the next version of fever had to be so bad compared to the first one. Hopefully 2004 has something better to offer and if not I'm lookin at either NFL 2k3 or 4 and if I get desperate I'll go for madden.

2-0 out of 5 stars Go buy madden
Not even online game play makes this game worth it, madden is far better, plus the BUTTONS MAKE SENSE, well on the GCN at least.
And I am sick of kevin collabro (i listen to the sonics, he is their announcer) and he's is DEFINITELY not a football announcer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling Football Game!
This game really rocks! The graphics are the best. The dynasty mode is really cool. Starting a team from scratch is awesome! The gameplay, handeling, plays, and managing teams is also very well made. This game is a lot better than Madden 2003. I highly recommend buying this game. ... Read more
