It is a strategy game in a sense that you have to make money in the races in order to rebuild your cars and buy shop equipment. It isn't easy to race without hitting others, but you can make up some track time by taking on 2 tires instead of four. I run the races at about 10-15 laps so I don't get bored. The super speedways are the best, but if you dont like a particular track, you can simulate it and skip it. I rented it for 2 weeks and will prob buy it.
License mode is great, having Richard Petty talk you through each track is great stuff, its like a real life scenario, you have to practise to become good to become a contender to become a champion to become a multi time champion to become a legend. I like games with competion and I like games where you really have to work hard and practise, then when you do finally become champ, its a sweet feeling, like you really one the big one. Tou will do better on some tracks then others (thats how it is in real life) but the key is to be consistent and patient. I can talk all day about this the quality of this game but I wont. Great graphics and excellent sound. This game is for the hardcore professional racers who wont sulk bcz they cant win a race or cry bcz the game is to repetitive. For serious races only ... Two pet peeves: 1)the extra animations of hitting the ball and the 'heart-beat' of hitting a great shot gets old very quickly, and there is no way to turn it off.You can turn off the controller vibration, but the animation continues, which really slows down the game.2)this game is too easy.I understand the appeal of being able to regularly shoot in the 50s; but sometimes it gets tiresome.I suppose the best way to play this game is to use characters without all the high ability, to turn off the spin control, and to crank up the wind. But even when I do that, I can still regularly shoot under 60.
I guess the same can be said for my real golf agme.Drive for show, Putt for dough.

Amazon.com Product Description Weather conditions heighten the experience. Watch the rain clouds swell in the sky above you, see the umbrellas go up, listen to your pit crew's weather updates on the radio, and then, as the heavens open, catch sight of your opponents spinning off the track, crashing into barriers or rushing towards the pits to switch tires and change strategy. You will hear intelligent pit communication from your race engineer, with weather and pit-stop predictions, plus advice on how these things will affect the race. If pit skills are honed, valuable seconds can be saved; if they are not, seconds will be lost. You can turn on the simulation mode and feel the car's handling change to a simulation style, pushing your ability to the limit. Or you can jump into the cockpit for the driver's-eye view and see the wheel wrestling around corners, the gears changing, and the driver gesturing out of frustration, anger, and elation. As for the game itself I must say that I was very very satisfied. In fact I was impressed.Even though the game is almost 3 years old the graphics are very nice. The physics and handling of the cars are very realistic.Just like a real F1 car the cars in the game are very twitchy and nimble unlike those 3,500lb tanks in NASCAR Thunder.I like how you can select between normal and simulation handling mode.In normal handling the car is very easy to drive which means you don't deal with understeer or oversteer in the corners and you don't deal with wheelspin.Turn on simulation mode and it's a different story. The car's physics and handling in simulation mode become very realistic and challenging. The sound in the game is good. They did a good job of replicating the intense sound of an F1 engine allthough missing is the high pitch scream that the cars achieve at high speeds.I have Colin Mcrae 3 and NASCAR Thunder and this ranks up there as one of the top racing games for The Xbox.If you love F1 or open wheel racing then get this game.Don't even bother with that Indycar game.
Players can choose from all 23 tracks and all the 2001 drivers. The casual gamer can turn off damage and drive in "Normal" mode; the biggest challenge is to stay on the track. More advanced drivers can add whatever degree of realism they like, including damage, fuel usage, tire wear and penalties. The cars can be tweaked before each race; some of the settings include gear ratios (pre-set and custom), front and rear wing angle, tire pressure and type, and so on.
Another problem is the pit-crew. Let's say you planned your pit stop just a bit past halfway. It then begins to rain just short of that (which, BTW, it does way to often... several times during every race if whether is turned on, what's up with that?!?), so you have to enter the pits to get new tires. While you are at it, you can also indicate that you want to make the remainder of the race your last stint. But for some reason, the pit-crew forgets to give you enough fuel, so you run out on the last lap. Makes you wonder why you told them you didn't intend to stop again... Graphics would have been considered cool a little while back, but the xbox can certainly do much better. C'mon EA, go the extra mile and fix these things! A little more attention to detail, a little better AI and a smarter pit crew, and this would be an awesome game! ... Read more

Good Things- Bad things- so overall, A PRETTY GOOD GAME RIGHT(...)
Test Drive delivers the one thing I have wanted from a racing game for years, the ability to choose your own way through a course, AND still win.In '98 Microsoft came out with Motocross Madness, where you rode dirtbikes and did tricks for points, but when you were in racing mode, if you left the track, you didn't stand a chance of winning. Test Drive is different. There are tracks that you can use, and finish, and win on.But you can choose to go off road and win also. You choose your vehicle based on what you want to do.There are power vehicles and speed vehicles. The speed vehicles do well on the relatively flat dirt tracks that lead to the finish, while the power vehicles that have lower top speeds do better leaving the beaten (longer) path and taking the shortcut over the top of the mountain. That said, there is still a downside:There are a relatively limited number of races, so if you are like me and tend to finish games quickly then this one won't take you long.It can also be frustrating, because when you play in the hardest mode, the other vehicles will attempt to bump you and make you spin out. That is really annoying when you managed to stay in first place through an entire race, and then get spun out 10 seconds before you hit the finish line and you end up in 5th place.

Amazon.com Product Description Myst III: Exile includes several special features exclusive to Xbox. The 3-D effects in the prerendered environments have been enhanced to create a more immersive experience, more stunning and more real. The Xbox version uses enhanced modeling systems to create water that moves and looks like real water, both up close and at a distance. The Xbox version also has the Director's Cut of the lens-flare effect, a feature toned down for the PC version, but here implemented as intended. The game takes advantage of the console's ability to have sound come not only from behind the player, but from the left and right. There is also a 22-minute making of featurette, the only in-game, full-screen version seen anywhere. The movie includes footage from the video shoot and interviews with the developers. Reviews (8)
Exposure to the M3E predecessor games (Myst, Riven) is necessary as the game documentation does not explain the story and reasoning behind M3E. M3E has one vengeful D'ni inhabitant named Saavedro that somehow discovered a way to transport himself to the age of Tomahna, where Atrus had just completed writing the age of Releeshan, in which he wanted to amend all of his son's wrongdoings.Saavedro takes away the Releeshan linking book and deliberately drops his J'nanin book expecting to lure Atrus and trap him in his destroyed age.You end up with the task of bringing back the Releeshan book and stop Saavedro from doing more damage to the ages. Your adventure starts when you link into the J'nanin or Learning Age.This age was originally conceived by Atrus to teach his sons about the creation of ages. You are all alone (or so it seems) on this tropical island with no idea of how to get Saavedro and the stolen book. This game requires patience and a lot of persistence; for every step you take make sure to stop and look around, then continue on.Everything around you is important. The adventure is open-ended; you don't need to visit any age in a particular order in order to succeed. You don't die in this game; you cannot fall off a cliff, get electrified or drown. You are also not going to get stuck by pushing the wrong button. That doesn't mean you should start pushing or pulling at will, everything has a purpose and a method, and most of the time is not obvious at first glance. This game is recommended for experienced adventurers and Myst fans. Those new to Myst or to adventure games could find it a bit frustrating and the story will probably not make too much sense.
Way back then the very notion of 3D-rendered computer graphics was in itself pretty cool. But now, there's a shrinking gap between what you can do with pre-rendered (still image) technology and smooth-motion real-time 3D graphics. And this technology is starting to look dated. While the 3D artwork is truly beautiful in this game, somehow I just expected more.Is it just me or do these "ages" (islands) seem totally lifeless?I know these are static pre-rendered images, but dammit I want a bird to fly by here and there.I want the clouds to move on a separate layer.I want bugs, and I want grass that blows, and lighting that changes subtely -- all of these effects are possible even with pre-rendered graphics with a little compositing ingenuity. Furthermore, this story line, of which Presto Studios seems so immensely proud, is painfully thin.Who is Atrus?Who are his kids? What are linking books?Unless you've played the first 2 games you'll have to just live with the blanks. No effort is made to explain the subtext. And for those that have played the first two games in the series, EXILE suffers from a painful lack in tension. As a player I'm constantly asking myself "Why do I care?".The writers need to take a refresher course in creating tension and establishing empathy. Don't get me wrong. From a pure architecture and rendering perspective, this game is gorgeous. The modelers and texture artists deserve huge kudos. They rule. But as a result of some poor game design, sterile environments, and the lethargic, tension-drained story-line -- you'll feel like you're clicking your way past still 3D renders rather than interacting with a living 3D world. I'd recommend this game to those who like brain-teasers and puzzles (which are well conceived in Exile), but not to those who are looking for adventure. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review NBA 2K2 features all the teams, rosters, and, most importantly, rulechanges (like the now-legal zone defense) found in the real NBA. Player faceshave been mapped to realistic body types (complete with tattoos), so you canidentify a big man like Shaq or a speedster like Iverson without looking attheir numbers. The game takes full advantage of the graphics-rendering power ofadvanced consoles by including better texturing, lighting effects, facialanimations, and a higher polygon count to make sure all the jukes, spins, jumps, and dunks are as realistic as possible. The audio is also good, particularly theplay-by-play, which is accurate and speedy. The controls are intuitive--even for people used to the Dreamcast--especially inthe area of on-the-fly play calling. You can now use the right analog stickinstead of the digital pad, so you don't have to take your thumb off the maincontrols (left analog stick) to call a new play or change formations. Othercontrols let you quickly and fluidly box out your opponent, spin, shoot, pass, fake, and dunk. There are also eight street-ball courts, and this addition makes for almost anentirely new game. In this respect, it is the equal of the EA Sports NBA Liveseries. But NBA 2K2 surpasses EA's title with its excellent AI. This gameis challenging, satisfying, and fun in both single and multiplayer modes.--Bob Andrews Pros: (This review refers to the PlayStation2 version of this game.) Reviews (30)

I also like that it is not terribly difficult and yet there are things you have to figure out.I have to say I think they did a really good job stealing the ideas from other games.I really think anyone could find things they like about this game, as long as they aren't offended by plagerism. My only real complaint would be that the movement and viewing can be a bit clunky at times. This game isn't the best of all time but I have no regrets buying it (I can't say that about some of my other "popular" games). The best part about it to me is that it has a good feel to the game, like the "Mario Style" games of nintendo. ... Other than that, I would only add in some new tackles for effect and then I would say you could have the best football game ever. If anyone tells you madden is better tell them they are getting to old, because the controls and speed of this game blow madden outta the water, football is a fast fast game, and madden plays like my grandpa and his friends are out on the field. Also in madden the run game is non existent, and you can put together a really good running game on fever. So get fever for what like 20 bucks now right? and then wait for next season, (Browns all the way baby)

I had only rented it, but during my play NBA LIve 2003 was one of the greatest games I've played. You don't get tired of this one. Even though I kind of didn't know how to play at first, once you get the hang of it, you've got it. Here are somethings I like about the game: Killer Graphics, Players What i Did not like: Directions don't really explain alot. The NBA Live 2003 experience was fun, hard at times, and challenging. I would reccomend this game to any basketball, or "I'm waiting for a challenge" kind of person. It is currently avaliable.

Amazon.com Review Like NFL 2K3, NBA 2K3 is presented in the patented ESPN style. The game has all the sights and sounds of the NBA: the pomp and circumstance of pregame introductions, accurate arena recreations, realistic player animations and sizes, and fluid dribbling and shooting (including crossover moves and the ability to change shot direction in midair). All of this is accentuated with special touches such as alley-oops, tipped shots, the ability to make passes on the fly, fierce rebounding battles under the basket, and the added drama and excitement of the ball bouncing off the rim before it either falls in or goes awry. NBA 2K3 offers a host of moves and modes on either side of the ball with 25 offensive and 10 defensive plays from which to choose. Throw in fully customizable strategy options--everything from player clutch factor to computer shot tendencies, not to mention all types of shot percentages and fouls--and it's easy to create the ideal match up and game environment. The limitless roster manager feature also ensures that league and franchise modes won't get stale. Street mode offers a break from the grind of NBA play, allowing you to go two-on-two or all the way up to five-on-five in nine playgrounds and gyms. Pick your favorite players from current teams or choose greats from the '50s through the '80s and go at it as the Ballers vs. the Ringers. Street even features requisite trash talk such as "Yeah! You like that?" and grunts backed with "Get some!" --Larry White Pros: Note: This review refers to the PlayStation2 version of this game. Reviews (29)
This game is also a really cool multi-player game. On my XBox I play with my brothers and you can play 4-players. This game is very comprehensize and there are a plethora of options. You can pick any team in the NBA, and play any way you want. You can make up your own players and play streetball. You can play a practice game or practice free throws (which are kind of hard, you need to press both triggers). You can turn off all the rules like backcourt violations and 3-second violations. The graphics in this game are excellent. The use of lighting effects is really nice, and the game movements are very lifelike. This game definitely shows off the power of the Xbox graphics engine. Overall this is a great basketball game for Xbox. It's a very good choice compared to the other basketball games for Xbox.
Some valid complaints: the passing game isn't 100% solid. Many times players will stop once the ball is passed to them, standing still until the ball gets there. This is infuriating when you're trying to orchestrate a fast break. Also, the computer's point guard does a bevy of moves to always get by me.Seriously, I think each game the guy I'm guarding throws up 20-30 points, 90% of them in crazy layups. Sometimes you foul a guy and it looks like it was a foul on the groud, but they give the guy free throws. That is, the refs in this game are very loose on their definition of "in the act of shooting."You might foul a guy and then he takes two big steps and does a layup and they count the shot.I guess that's a lot like the NBA, though, huh?:-) If you are a true basketball fan, this game is worth picking up.There are some cons to the game, but nothing major. Also, you can tweak settings (like how often the computer tries to drive vs. shoot jumpers) to help mitigate what are perceived as unfair computer advantages. Also, XBox Live support is present, which is killer.
