Editorial Review While Civilization II has been slightly pared down and doesn't look as good as it does on a computer--the graphics here are muddy, and text can be hard to read--the customized PlayStation control interface works surprisingly well. (Keyboard and mouse controls generally don't translate well to the PlayStation controller, to put it mildly.) --Joe Hon Pros: Features Reviews (39)
Players build new settlements and then build different buildings and military units to help their civilization grow.Combat, diplomacy, and civil engineering all combine for fascinating gameplay. My only real problem with the console conversion is that the main graphics are rather clumsy looking while most of the incidental graphics are taken straight from the original game. The game controls are also clumsier than they need to be.Obviously a game controller is more limited than a full keyboard, but I don't think the controller is used to full advantage. The controls mean that the length of a game is longer than in the PC version. Although a little slower and clumsier than the original version, this is still an enthralling game with a very high level of replayability.

Editorial Review Sending an undisciplined monster into the arena is a recipe for failure,so much of our playing time involved training our creations and watchingthem develop into lethal, confident juggernauts. No two monsters are thesame, and each develops its own unique personality as the gameprogresses. We became more attached to this game's creations than othergames in the genre because of this well-executed feature. --T. ByrlBaker Pros: Reviews (53)

Another great thing about this game is that it is different. You don't go around killing people in a blood bath. My mom is always complaining about those type of games. Anyway, this is a must have for any gamer out there!

The Panzer General Series is truly an incredible step forward in turn based strategy. Not as simple as such games as Heroes of Might and Magic 3 but much more simple than The Battle of Kursk. In this middle nitche, players get to feel like they are running an army but they don't get saddled with the 3 to 1 logistic system. And, as quaint as Panzer General may seem, it is a very deep game.Even Panzer General 2 avoided have the polethera of units and tactics as are in 1.You will be able to use navies, strategic bombers and just about anything else one might expect to see on the WWII battlefield.Play is challenging and rarely stale.Getting the coveted Decisive Victory is never too easy but it remains attainable and rewarding. The prestige system is also useful, giving players points for taking cities, eradicating units and so on.But...Most importantly, your army carries over from level to level, meanng that the game can be played several times with different units and the outcome will be different(there are also branches based on the speed of victory).Trust me, this game is timeless and endless.

Now the good stuff - I like that this game is easy to learn yet hard to master. I speak with some authority, having spend most of my freshman year of college playing friends over the network. On the playstation, it keeps all of its good qualities, and just has the few caveats described above. The game combines cartoon physics with cartoon violence (think of a weapon that launches exploding cows and worms that do martial arts moves). Realistically, most games for a younger audience tend to need a little violence to sell, and this is perhaps the nicest way to give that necessary allure - mostly in that someone does not have exploding cows at their disposal. There are several factors in using the "weapons" in the game which make a player think creatively about physics - throwing a grenade against the wind, deciding how much force to launch a, ahem, cow with, etc. Overall the game provides countless hours of fun and humorous gameplay. Enjoy!
I honestly see a number of comparisons between Worms and golf. The player thinks through which club/weapon would be best to use given the cirumstances and conditions. What type of shot should be made? What angle is necessary to pull the shot off?Which direction is the wind blowing? However, in addition the Worms player must think about defense.Should I burrow in here?If I transport there, will that leave me open to be killed during the next round? This is a true thinking game, but it's so much fun to play. No, you won't get killer graphics and fast paced action, but you will get a good challange and an awesome game to play against friends. Now, onto this particular Worms game.World Party is very, very similar to Worms Armageddon. In fact, they are about the same game.If you don't have a Worms game, this is as good as any of the three to get. However, if you already have Armageddon, this game isn't going to offer much that's new.

Editorial Review Your job is a big one: unite China under your rule. To accomplish thistask, you must sway your enemies through use of diplomacy, subterfuge, and force, all the while keeping your homelands protected and yourpeople fed. No one man could do all this, so you must delegateauthority to a variety of historical officers with varying degrees ofability. Some are suited for leading troops in battle, and some arebetter at spying. It's up to you to pick the best man for the job. The game's biggest problem is its interface, which consists of dozensof nested menus, packed with commands that are not very well describedin the thin manual. This is not a title you load up for a quick gamingfix, but one that--if it's your cup of tea--you start playing on Fridaynight and continue through Monday (after calling in sick).Unfortunately, few gamers will have the patience or resolve to overcomethe more frustrating aspects of RotTK VI. --T. ByrlBaker Pros: Features Reviews (16)
The only draw back is that battles can last only 1 month and attacking cities is kind of a bore due to lack of strategies the gamer can employ. All in all, a must own, especially if new to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga.
The war portion, which is the lion's share of this game, is fine.In fact, it's better than ever. But that also betrays the game's biggest fault: besides the war, there's not a lot to do.You can make general improvements to 3 categories of your city (farming, commerce, safety) but that's about the extent of interaction with your city. The rest of your options are mostly recruiting generals (hint: get as many as you can early on, as they are difficult to obtain later) amassing troops (no training though) and giving ranks to your generals. There are some limited diplomacy measures that hardly ever work, and get very tiresome (like much of this game,) and that doesn't help. So you are left to merely amass more troops than your neighbor, and enough generals to lead them.Other than that, it gets pretty... well... boring. The cut scenes are nice, the history is very rich and deep, and some minor troop enhancements make the battles a little more weighty. But we've arrived again at the problem of battle being the only redeeming quality of the game. Yes, you can have very short conversations with your generals (that are mostly pointless), you can install traps around your castles (at least it gives you something to do), and receive visitors that bear gifts and gold. But there's still something missing.Just like Kessen on PS2, this game lacks a real focus on the city-building portion, which leaves you with a great war simulator, but the vast stretches in between might very well leave you snoozing.(Kessen solved this problem by simply eliminating that pesky "city management" phase, and relying more heavily on an automatically advancing storyline.) I simply cannot give any Koei game less than 4 stars, and regardless of any negative reviews, I still would have bought this. But I can't say I was entirely satisfied, especially when one's expectations have grown over the years, only to be met with more "same old, same old." ... There are 4 different sheep herders, they are better at being scary/shouting/running/etc;4 different sheep breeds, with slight differences again, and a load of wacky levels. Also you can play two-player "Sheep Soccer", bizzare indeed...especially when you consider that the most infamous sheep farming countries (Scotland, NZ, Australia) all play rugby?! Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (9)
There are two really major problems with the game: you can't save incomplete games, and a really obnoxious lockup problem, at least on my PS2. The inability to save in-progress games is understandable--it would be a challenge to get even a single map to fit on a memory card.128K isn't much room for this sort of game. The lockup problem happens randomly when I'm in one of the menus. It's happened three times in a row after I've spent an hour or two building a really complex rail network (in one of the Australian scenarios), and thanks to the lack of a save feature that means all the work I've done is lost.Admittedly it may be PS2-related, but it would be the first PS2-specific game problem I've run into (and I've tried at least 50 old PlayStation games on it). The interface is poorly implemented, which added to my initial frustration with trying to learn the game.It takes a long time to become comfortable navigating the menus with the joypad... what it really needs is a mouse. The most noticeable issue is that the pad behavior is inconsistent. In some screens the pad moves the cursor around the screen, but in other screens it performs other functions like highlighting buttons even though the cursor is still on the screen.(I could go on for hours about other problems with the controls, but I won't bother...) Other people have mentioned graphics and text issues, but I haven't found these to be major issues.I suspect the text would be hard to read on a small TV, and the font they used isn't that good. The graphics aren't super, but they aren't horrible either--they're adequate. No music? That's a feature! Once I got over the initial "how does this work?" part Railroad Tycoon II turned out to be a really fun game; it ranks up there with SimCity or any of the other classic simulation games. But the Playstation version just wasn't a good idea, especially with the lack of a save feature; I'll be playing the Linux version instead.

One major caveat is the complexity of the user interface. It will take quite a while to get used to, and even then it isn't ideal. You cannot micromanage the entire battlefield, you need to trust that some of the units can do their job, trust in the battle plan you drew up, and support the other units with a few easy to manage but powerful units. Overall, a fantastic strategy game, only the awkward and complex interface keep it from scoring 5 stars.

For those new to the series, Romancing the Three kingdoms is a turn based strategy game set in ancient china. It is sort of like a juiced up Risk set in Asia.Romancing the Three Kingdoms is a very slow paced game, if you don't have above average patience this game is not for you.Younger children won't appreciate the game. However if you are a methodical sort who enjoys carefully building and strategizing, you'll probably like this title. ... Now to those of you who arelooking for a naval strategy game, simulating vessels from PT Boats on upto the Aircraft Carriers, this game will not pass morning quartersinspection. The hydrodynamics (movement over, under, and through thewater) was not only unrealistic...it was comical.Although the aircraftcarriers did not turn on a dime, they were still swifter than any vesselDennis Connor ever skippered! Time, tide and formation...save your moneyfor (hopefully) a better game to come...or a yacht rental in the Chesapeakeor San Francisco Bay.
