2-0 out of 5 stars Should be Crash City not Sim City
I bought this game for my son and I am now spending many minutes a day rebooting his MAC computer. The game locks up the entire system and requires a hard reboot each time. If this was an automobile from GM of Ford the roads would be littered with wrecked cars. Don't waste you money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great game, but you need a patch to fix a performance issue
I played all the previous versions of Sim City back in my bad oldWindows days and really enjoy the game. But for some reason this version will paralyze even a fast Mac.I'm running this on an iMac 1.8GHz G5 with 1GB of memory, and after about 10 minutes of play I have to quit and restart the game because the response becomes impossibly slow.Very frustrating.Haven't tried the updater yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

UPDATE (Apr 05): Installed the updater and it appears to have fixed the slow response problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good...if it has update!
I have noticed many people have said just how bad Sim City 4 is. The thing to solve these problems is to get the updater It will make Sim City much better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Graphics not a problem...if you fix them!
Lots of these reviews complain about the graphics on this Mac version.I had the same problems too - unexpected crashes and VERY slow game performance, on a pretty new G5 tower.

Doing two things will fix these issues. In the game's video/display options panel, switch off the page scrolling, and reduce the graphic detail. That's all it took to have this game running great. The manual should cover these quirks but it doesn't.

One final tip - learn the keyboard commands (found on the back of the manual) as it will speed up gameplay hugely, and totally compensates for no scrolling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!
Ok so i was a fan of Sim City 2000 which I found a demo of on a CD I didnt know i had. So I put it in and played Sim City 2000...and played and played and so on so I soon got the full thing. I became addicted to it. When Sim City 4 came out, i wanted it so much but I only had a mac. When it came out I bought like the first day! When I played I was sooooo dissapointed. nothing seemed to work right, the airplanes shadows became square and the streams on the airplanes was stretched all the way across, it kept crashing, and the industrial zone turned white, edge scrolling messed up sooooo slooooow. When I played it on a PC at my friends house, it was beutiful! Not a single bug! I ditched the game and played 2000 again finding it much better. Now I only play for like 10 minutes before getting bored. Seiously on this, NOT worth spending $40-$50 on this pathetic game. Maxis should be ashamed of themselves to take so much care in the PC games then throw it on a mac bugs and all. NOT worth it! Keep your money while you can! In other words, it doesn't take good graphics to make a good game. So get with it Maxis!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal=great game(s)
The Final Scene and Treasure in the Royal Tower are both great games. Treasure in the Royal Tower is my favorite out of the five I have(Secrets Can Kill, Stay Tuned for Danger,The Haunted Carousel and, of course,The Final Scene and Treasure in the Royal Tower). I have absolutely no complaints on any of these five games, except for in Secrets Can Kill the characters are very cartoony. In The Final Scene, the culprit was the person I least expected. All in all, I think the Nancy Drew games are the best computer games ever made(along with The Sims). These games are great for kids and adults alike, and if you don't buy at least one Nancy Drew game, you'll be missing out on some major family time. Buy this game, and you won't regret it. I guarantee. You won't regret it, and you'll want to buy more the minute you beat the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved these games!
Both of these games are very addicting! My 7 year old son and I used junior detective (there is a harder level) and it was fun!Well worth the money you pay!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great family fun!
My 10 year old daughter and I had so much fun playing this together!I thought she would enjoy it on rainy days but I was just as enthusiastic about playing as she was!
And my 6 year old son loves it!My daughter got stuck a couple of times where I could not figure out how to help her but Herinteractive.com has a great message board for each Nancy Drew game with lots of hints and clues if you get stuck!
A great family activity for a rainy day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Double Pack

Professor Thomas Kosnik,
Consulting Professor, Stanford School of Engineering, and Lecturer, Harvard Business School , Technology Today, CNBC-TV Cable
"Capitalism is a world class, hands-on learning experience which I've used at Stanford School of Engineering and Harvard Business School. Gamers not only learn the subtleties of growing an entrepreneurial business but also learn about leadership and team building necessary in any business situation." "Capitalism is very realistic and will allow the dynamics to change depending on whether you're selling a cola product, which is sort of a low tech-branded consumer good, or whether your selling consumer electronics or a PC."

Professor Drew Fudenberg
Harvard University
"This game does an excellent job of modeling many of the key aspects of modern business. Not all aspects of it are realistic, but enough of them are that many sensible strategies are encouraged. In particular it's gratifying to me to see that the game rewards thinking about sources of long-term competitive advantage, be it from brand recognition, low production costs gained from learning-by-doing (a nice touch!), a monopoly on high quality inputs, or a big technological lead."

Businessweek, October 21, 1996
Capitalism isn't just for those who aspire to be the next Michael Dell or Sam Walton. It can be a fun and useful exercise for anyone who wants to test their entrepreneurial mettle without, for once, taking any risk. Players can choose to compete against computer-controlled rivals in four different industries: farming, manufacturing, raw material mining, and retailing. For a truly adventurous and time-consuming game, players can mix and match industries as captains of giant conglomerates. As in the real world, players compete locally, in one city, or fight it out on the global stage.
With so many possibilities, Capitalism is an intense strategy game, much like chess, where players must constantly think ahead. As such, it could easily overwhelm novices. But by adjusting several factors--competency and managerial style of the computer-controlled rivals, for example, can be varied from very aggressive to conservative--gameplay can be suited to various styles and speed. The game even allows a player to hire presidents to manage the day-to-day operations of different divisions so the player can concentrate on the big picture.

Far Eastern Economic Review, September 26, 2002
The mass market isn't the only audience for Chan's games. Like Virtual U, Capitalism has made the leap from game room to classroom. Because of its high degree of realism, the game has been used by professors at institutions like Harvard and Stanford Universities to help students learn basic business principles. Chan is hoping that Restaurant Empire and Hotel Giant will also be adopted for training and education. "Simulation games are a fun way to learn about anything," he says. "They prove that computer games aren't just about shooting things but can also be educational."

CNN - 22nd May 2002
Kristie Lu Stout, CNN Correspondent
Some guys have all the luck. They have the billion dollar market cap, the brand, and the empire, while the rest of us spend our lives toiling away in cubicles with no chance to ever run the show. That is until now. Even the desk jockey can claw his way to the top in "Capitalism," the game.Hong Kong game developer Trevor Chan just released the follow-up to the award-winning original, but the objective is the same. Move your assets to turn an upstart into the most profitable company in the world. First-time players can choose a challenge like, the world in your hands, where you manage a research and development lab out to post annual revenues of $400 million, and as you take on the competition, that's when the real drama begins. But "Capitalism" is no Business 101. Critics call it a deep involving game that could test even the sharpest business document. In fact, it's been used as a simulation exercise for business students at Stanford University. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars They will gladly take your money...again.
Since the makers of the original SimCity 4 never actually fully patched that version, they tell you to buy Rush Hour to solve the issues existing with that main version. Throwing in a few additions that could have been made available for download, you must buy this expansion in order for the game to even work with ANY future elements they may provide. Newer building tools or the rare new structure will simply not work with the stand alone version.
But the "situation" even goes much deeper than that-
Problems were not only not fixed, but were actually HIDDEN by the game designers. Observant players of the original SC4 would notice cars driving in circles or driving a highway, leaving and re-entering it at each exit! With Rush Hour, they merely lowered the amount of time automobiles would be displayed so players would think there are no problems. Very sneaky Maxis! Many gamers are none the wiser. It is truly amazing the game developers could get away with such practices... and laugh all the way to the bank.

5-0 out of 5 stars god like powers
This is the best game since GTA. The best thing to do is name streets and roads and neighborhoods and districts. I wish you could make a ethnic neighborhood then it would be really fun. You can make suburbs like the big city can be very blue collar and crime ridden and bad schools and one suburb can be white collar with mansions and excellent schools depending on what neighborhood you pay most attention to, just one of the best games ever made.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy... if your conscious is flexible..
This expansion is a must purchase. It's more than the features they describe, they've refined and improved just about everything is seems from the regular Sim City 4.

My issue however is that there are so many aspects that you get in the expansion that were missing without it (such as say, the ability to click a button to make a certain building historical, which you could do in previous Sim Cities), it really kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth buying this. The ORIGINAL Sim City 4 should have had many of the polished aspects of the expansion. This isn't just a ton of cool new features, this expansion makes the game complete.

Kinda clever.. sell an incomplete game, then make you buy the expansion to get the full product. So it's a must purchase, but I blow my nose at you so called "computer coders", you and all you're silly kinnigits... pbhhhhhtthhh....

Sincerely,

A Frustrated Gamer Who Knows He's Not Going To Be Sleeping Tonight Because of the Darn Game

(or just Graham will do)

5-0 out of 5 stars A tremendous improvement
I have been waiting for Maxis to improve the transportation features, and finally they've done it!!!I can now control traffic more efficiently in my city by knowing what paths citizens take to and from work. This allows me to determine where I should place new roads, mass transit lines, stations, etc.The monorails allow you to have a much more futuristic city, only you can't build monorail lines over elevated freeways. The surface freeways and elevated trains also make city transportation systems much more realistic. If you have SC4 and don't have Rush Hour, I highly recommend that you buy it now.It is worth every cent.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the bells, whistles, and sirens a city should have!
After purchasing SimCity 4 and hearing of the Rush Hour expansion, I didn't know what to expect--after all, I just payed $40 for the stand alone version.Yet, to my surprise, RH added a tremendous ammount of gameplay and realism that wasn't available with SimCity 4.While the U-Drive it features are alright, I am extremely impressed with the tremendous addition of ground level highways, (I wanted these for a while now) Chicago-style "el" lines, monorails, and a new slew of roadway tools.Mayors should also take note of the new building sets, greatly improved gameplay performace, and more realistic play.Rush Hour is more than a simple add-on, it's a sequel to a great game. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Having a big bash!!!
It's cool to have parties when a lot of people come.I have a huge party room where people dance and be the D.J. It's fun when you get a big cake and hire a male or female dancer and they pop out of the cake and do a dance, but watch out because sometimes they come up to you and make out with you or flirt with you.If you don't have this game you should buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars House Party!
The Sims House Party is one of the few expansion packs that I can't do without apart from Hot Date and Livin' Large (And to some extent Vacation, and Superstar). It truly enhances Sims' lives by inviting each other for costume or themed parties, but it has it's disadvantages as well.

You want to make sure that your Sims really know the people around you for the party to go well or the dreaded Mime'll arrive. He doesn't do much apart from get in the way and annoy people. While on the other hand, if your party's a success you get a surprise visit from a celebrity! It's never happened to me yet, but then again I've done the sad mistake of signing up with the Talent Agency too quickly.

Also, if your Sim isn't on good terms with any other Sim in the neighborhood, using the phone to declare a house party'll automatically invite them as well. This can get nasty sometimes. In cases like these, it'd be "safer" to use the phone and manually select who you want to invite over. Then of course, you can always buy the turkey and the Christmas tree.

Parties are even divided into adult or kiddy parties, with dance entertainers popping out of cakes for the former but a purple gorilla usually stuns the kids for the latter. Some of the additional items that come along with this expansion pack are DJs, Caterers and costume wardrobes!

Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great New Stuff!!!
Want some new skins, objects, walls, and floors for your Sims?Look no further than House Party! There is some great having-fun-potential here!!!Whether you want an entertainer to pop out of a cake or you want to sit around a campfire to sing songs and roast marshmallows (this is so cute... when they sing around the campfire, someone pulls out a guitar and they all sing real melodies but with Sim lyrics), House Party is for anybody!
Don't stay up too late! And go easy on the alcohol! ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best expansion packs.
If you love the Sims you'll love this expansion pack. If you want all the Sims expansion packs make sure you purchase Livin' Large first so you don't have to uninstall House Party and any other expansion packs. House Party is the third one in the series. This game is GREAT. It allows you to have a party. Depending on if your party is good or not you may get a visitor. If you party is bad you will get a clown who will not leave you alone but it is fun to slap him. If your party is good than certain celebrities will visit you. I have had Drew Carey visit. The game gives you more options and more neighborhoods. Enjoy the game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funest toy ever
It is very fun because you can make people that are fanous, make people that look like you, or just make a stranger. You can also make your dream house or you can marry your crush!

4-0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than Physicus, But...
My wife and I are avid adventure gamers and, to help pass the time until "URU: Ages Beyond Myst" is released later this year, we decided to try "Chemicus". We played "Physicus" a couple years ago and, while we enjoyed it, we both thought that it could have been a much better game if it had tied into Physics a little deeper and if more effort was put into the adventure game design (look for my earlier review).

We just completed "Chemicus" and I can honestly say that this was a MUCH better overall attempt. Nearly all of the puzzles of the game are chemistry-related ranging from the fairly easy and logical to the pretty hard and requiring a hint or two (we peeked into the included walkthrough only a couple of times to get us unstuck).

The greatest improvement over "Physicus", however, was on the game design side. Like "Physicus" the graphics and music are lush and inviting. But, the scope of the game is where "Chemicus" shines over its predecessor. "Physicus" was just a singular environment or location to explore with very few cut-scenes and conveyances to enjoy along the way; both popular elements to a successful adventure game. In "Chemicus", even though the "subway" system was a little on the cheesy and repetitive side, at least it felt like we were transporting between unique locations (thank goodness the space bar forwards you through the animations). Plus, after solving some particularly difficult puzzles, we were rewarded with some nice cut-scenes; the balloon ride over the city being the best one. It wasn't on the same level as the bigger games like Riven and Schizm, but still an improvement.

One thing that "Physicus" did get right and that "Chemicus" fails on, is its link into the "Brain Center", the included chemistry text book. The content of the chemistry text is impressive, although, it looks as if the inclusion of animation and narration of some of the experiments and topics went by the wayside probably due to the added scope of the underlying game. What really annoyed us was the fact that we couldn't follow a link from the particular puzzle we were working on into the appropriate chapters or topics of the textbook. Along the way, you pick up "Knowledge Chips" that add chapters to your Brain Center and I suppose, if you kept up with the reading along the way, the new topics would relate to the new puzzles in the area. But, later on, when we were still working on the puzzle, it was very difficult to find those same topics in the textbook again. Like "Physicus", a link to just the appropriate topics would have been very useful.

Other than that, the game was very well written and designed. The user interface was very intuitive and easy to use. Could have done without the gratuitous, politically-correct diatribes on "greenhouse gasses" and "socially responsible science" that we have come to expect in these games (easy to ignore, though). We just started on "Bioscopia", but it looks as if that one more closely resembles "Physicus" in design and scope, bummer. I hear they are working on a "Chemicus II" game, so once we finish with URU, we will probably give it a go, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Education and confusion come together in Chemicus
Okay, okay, I had fun.But I was also incredibly frustrated by the set up and "logic" (or I should say lack of logic) of this game and that truly detracted from my enjoyment. I wanted to learn something from this game, but I didn't get the connections half the time!
This game has so much potential for teaching chemistry, but the set up was lacking logic - you don't know what you are supposed to be doing, and you have to go back and forth between the various "stops", never knowing if you have really done what needs to be done. And because you have to go back and forth so much, you have to wait for each area to load when you go to another stop. I tried skipping the animation of the transport zooming through the tube, but it still took a long time for the stop to load. And you want to scream when you click on the wrong button and have to wait twice!!
One example of frustration for us is that you have to melt the ingredients for solder someplace other than the melting furnace before you put it into the melting furnace... How does that make sense? The logic behind why some ingredients are placed in certain places is very foggy, and sometimes you just don't have enough (understandable) information to figure something out, or the information is there but so obscure that you have to be a rocket scientist to understand it.
So you look for help, and all you are given is a walkthrough, when hints would be so much better... and would help you learn why you are doing things. I have thought of making my own hints to pass on to someone who would like to learn something from the game.
I ran Chemicus on a mac running OSX. It had to run on classic, so there were many times when it lagged. Don't know how it runs on a PC.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for edutainment!
This is great game but it is NOT easily solved. It has Myst like elements where you find puzzles and solve them to move around. The game has a twist where you keep an inventory of items you will need in other areas of the game. The hints that came with the game were helpful..I hated to use them but after getting stuck and not making progress after a few hours I had to take a quick peek to continue. At first I thought it was too easy but then it got hard.If anyone writes otherwise they are not being truthful.I took many chem classes in college and not everything is intuitive in the game.Infact, sometimes you know what to do but the game only lets you do things in order to perform a task and you think that you are wrong (but you're not). You only switch CD's once ever and then you are done. I copied the help file to my computer so I would not have to reference it off of the disk. The only part I did not like was the navigation. If it had not been for that I would have given it 5 stars..All in all I have zero regrets getting this game.I had just finished playing Myst III and I wanted another same type game.great buy

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Challenging and Quite Lovely
Your friend, Richard, a Chemistry buff, has discovered a strange amulet that, combined with certain experiments, allows him access to another dimension. You are supposed to meet with him to discuss his findings, but discover he has disappeared. It seems the denizens of this other dimension aren't too pleased! They think Richard's visits have upset the stability of their world and are holding him prisoner. Now you must cross the dimensions and prove your friendship by restoring a mysterious "Transmitter Molecule."

_Chemicus_ is a first person game very much in the style of MYST:you are wandering through a virtually empty world picking up clues and solving puzzles. From time to time, as in the MYST series, you might see another person from a distance or receive a transmission from your imprisoned friend, but there is no character interaction. So the draw of this game is not clever, pun-filled scripting, but using close observation, deduction and sheer brainpower to get from point A to point B.There is not very much more story than is given to you in the introduction;to enjoy _Chemicus_ you have to enjoy solving inventory-based mechanical puzzles.

And the scenery, of course._Chemicus_ is a really gorgeous game. The "Other Side" is depicted as a place enough like our own world to be somewhat familiar, but enough different to give a certain sense of alienation -- again, much like MYST.The buildings and landscapes have a kind of organic texture that I personally find appealing.Unfortunately, there is no 360-degree movement;_Chemicus_ is a slideshow game. That means you're quite limited as to what you can view closely and where you can go.Personally I didn't find that too annoying (my husband hates it!), particularly as this game is so long and full of puzzles.I just didn't feel as put out by not being able to explore more fully as I might have.

Aside from the graphics and the sound -- mainly subtle f/x -- the strength of this game is in the puzzles.Because they are all based on chemistry, there is a logic to them that is often lacking. Some of the puzzles are a bit confusing, but none is arbitrary. It does in fact help to have had a course in chemistry and some math, however. The game provides a "BRain Center" to teach you what you need to know to proceed, but I found that often the information it gave you wasn't quite enough. However, I was pretty astonished at how many of the tasks could be accomplished with no specialized knowledge. In a way, this game helps point out how much we use chemistry in everyday life, without thinking about it.

I had some serious problems running this game, however.Despite having far more than the system requirements and using a full install, _Chemicus_ ran at a frustratingly slow pace. The scene transitions and animations were especially slow;I found them a good place to grab a snack or make a cup of tea.I also had trouble with the game crashing, often when I was accessing the Brain Center. If it hadn't been for those two things, I would easily have given _Chemicus_ 5 stars.

Several other annoyances were minor:games were saved as a list with each game defined by date and time only, so it was hard to tell what each one was.I consider this minor beacuse I don't tend to backtrack much. There was a lot of back and forthing -- inventory was almost never used in the place you found it -- and some of the locations were hard to keep track of.One or two puzzles involved somewhat obscure solutions, aside from the chemistry.

_Chemicus_ comes complete with a PDF walkthrough in case you get stuck.I did have to access this a few times.I didn't really like the way it was set up because, as walkthroughs tend to, it only told you what to do without telling you how.It also presents events in a specific order, which might not be the way you've played, _Chemicus_ being extremely non-linear.And I think it would have been helpful if you could have accessed the help file without totally exiting the game.

Althoughmarketed for "Everyone" _Chemicus_ will probably appeal best to science oriented teens and adults;I don't think it will really appeal to just any adventure gamer.A long game, it took me about 30 hours to complete.

If you like MYST-type games and if you like science experiments, you will probably like _Chemicus_.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love a challenge!
Beautiful graphics, and really hard. This game is not easy, and that's the way I like it! (If you aren't like me, the makers of the game put a walkthrough on one of the CD-ROMs in case you get stuck.) This game is a first-person point & click in the style of Myst. There is a lot of area to cover and a lot of hard puzzles. It ran smoothly, and was hours of fun. For the length of time this game will take you it's also a really good value for the price. I liked it more than it's two predecessors (also good!), Physicus and Bioscopia. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected a very complex and fun game
That was what I expected.I feel that the game was a let down overall because I kept expecting something really cool to happen, but it pretty much never did.It was kind of interesting at best.I gave two stars because three would indicate that I found it worth while. Most of the puzzles where either easy, or lacking in the ability to be solved without hints. I don't think I could have done it without the strategy guide that came with it. Also, I found that one of the puzzles didn't work in the way the manufacturer probably intended. To be fair, the humor was funny and very PYTHON which I liked. Additionally, I thought the whole concept was very good and I kept expecting some cool things to happen, but ultimately it did not pan out.Good Try.

4-0 out of 5 stars And now, for something completely titanic...
Starship Titanic is not based on Hitchhiker's Guide, but is very similiar in style. The game is very good, but can be difficult at times. However, unlike most games where dialogue is just something to proceed the plot, inthis game it is actually a funny and entertaining diversion thanks to thegreat dialogue engine and voice acting.Between the funny, but annoyingparrot and the Elevator attendant who constantly talks about his wartimeexploits (what war, we don't know).Buy this game if you want a funny andinteresting ride. Also, buy the book to learn about the story.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well, he knows how to write good books
The game was quite a bit of a letdown, as I am a big fan of Douglas Adams.Unfortunately, the game is not all that fun as a game.I felt even let down in the humor (or should I say humour) department as well.It did notseem as though Mr. Adams had full control over the project, as bits andpieces seemed to be his sense of humor, and other bits seemed to be awatered down Monty Python attempt. The bits that are funny are definitelyfunny, especially the talking message delivery system things. The look ofthe environs were astoundingly beautiful, but I feel that it lacked a soulbehind it.The game puzzles were at times very easy, and other timesastoundingly non-intuitive and difficult. For instance, there is onepuzzle that simply does not give you a clue that you are doing the rightthing, and you have to do it repeatedly for the game to finally give in andlet you have the victory.I won't say what it is, but it involvessomeone's butt.Overall, the humor was what kept this from getting a onestar review, but even that was a disappointment.

3-0 out of 5 stars The fun wasn't in the puzzles...
Usually when people play adventure games they do it partially because they enjoy solving puzzles. In this game the puzzles seemed to only be a small part of the enjoyment. It was more fun to play with the message delivery system, tease the parrot, and vandalize the ship... the puzzles were simplya means to do more of this.

If you are a fan of both Douglas Adams andMonty Pyton you will love this game, otherwise some of the jokes might belost upon you.The novel that comes with the game is a big plus, as itexplains things a bit better.

Game play wise the interface is clean andhas a unique feature that allows you to actually type in dialogue thatyou'd like to 'say' to the other characters instead of selecting phraseslike to many other adventure games. There were times when it was somewhattedious to run from one end of the ship to another, but that tends to be agiven for any adventure game these days.

If I were to voice any greatcomplaint, it was that in the end I didn't feel as though I'd accomplishedall that much and kept wondering where the rest of the game had gone.Ithink more time was spent on making the game LOOK neat instead of making ita deep and interesting adventure. It has some really hilarious moments(the parrot is great!) but not all that much more. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars EHM 2005 and straightening things out about this game
The company that makes this game is based in England, which shows why the NHL is shown as a different way of business. It is different than the way European Leagues do player transactions (players are bought and sold rather than traded for other players or draft picks) and relgation and promotion (teams the fair poorly or win the league move down a league or up a league).

The reason the primary farm league is not the AHL is because Sports Interactive (the developer) was not able to get the licenses for the AHL or the ECHL.

However, I am pleased to say a new version of this game is coming out, at the end of May in Europe and In August or September in North America (with up to date league and competition rules, hopefully the NHL will sort things out by then).Players will be able to play as the NHL if its lockout does not get ended, but it will be as it was before the CBA expired. The AHL and ECHL will be in the game, as well is the DEL (German league) and the Slovenian league.

Go to www.SIGames.com to find out more and play the Gold Demo

3-0 out of 5 stars For die-hard hockey grognards only.
First off, this title is available as a dual PC/Mac CD-ROM. I have only run the Mac version.

To start, the manual leaves a lot to be desired. First, it promises that the installation instructions are in the installation file. The file is just a .dmg archive with no installation instructions. Dragging the folder to the Applications folder seems to be an adequate way to start. The user interface is clunky and not very intuitive. I guess it takes some getting used to. Instead of scrolling lists, one needs to page thru screens. Ugh! This is not the '80s, scrolling lists are pretty easy to code nowadays. For a title with the NHL as a prime focus (it is in the name) the manual seems to treat the NHL way of business as the "different" way of doing things. Though research into the players seems to have been a major effort, team details are just plain wrong. The arena names are wrong, the minor league affiliates are often wrong. For example, the New York Rangers play at Madison Square Garden (not NY Rangers Place) and their minor league affiliate is the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL (not Connecticut Whalers of the AAL).

I'll need to spend more time looking at the game to comment on the actual "game play", but it seems as if it will be a steep learning curve. In some places in the interface you need to click what looks like a button. In others, clicking the button like indicator does nothing, you need to drag a player name to a button below. In yet another screen, you cannot drag the player name, you need to click the number and then click on the target line. One needs to constantly keep clicking "Continue Game" to keep the game moving.

5-0 out of 5 stars for the real hockey fan
This game is the in-depth hockey managing game that many true fans have been waiting for. This game is very very in-depth with all the different transactions and options available like a regular general manager would have in any league. The statistics and player ratings are far more realistic than graphic games like the EA Sports line or ESPN games. If you ever thought you could be a better manager than the one for your favorite hockey team, this is the game to buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hockey Buff's Game
EHM is a greathockey management sim. The game uses fully authentic club names, leagues and player photos from a multitude of different places around the world. Including the USA, Czech Republic, UK etc...

I would only buy this game if you know the game of hockey and all the familiaralities that go with it, such as trading etc...

Its not highly graphical either, it's basically a 'glorified spreadsheet.'

Still it's higly adictive and extremely entertaining. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

SimCity 3000 is back, and it's bigger than ever! Maxis pulled out all the stops for this new version of the bestselling game, adding enough new customized graphics to re-create cities from around the world. The new European and Asian building sets serve up hundreds of new buildings that match the architecture of these diverse environments. From the Great Wall to the Berlin Wall, it's in there. Of course, you can still mix and match--freedom to run a city as you choose has always been the name of this game.

No addition to the SimCity family would be complete without some new methods for destroying your creations, and SimCity 3000 Unlimited has four more devastating disasters than the old version. You can re-create the movie Armageddon by unleashing large chunks of flaming space debris, smite your populace with a buzzing swarm of locusts, destroy seaports and coastal developments with a whirlpool, or uncork some toxic clouds.

The Building Architect, formerly available as a free download, is now packed on the CD-ROM. This 3-D architectural program lets users create the buildings of their dreams, from dilapidated outhouses to towering skyscrapers to works of modern art that are intended for pure decoration. Don't worry if you don't feel like using this powerful tool to create things yourself--the game comes with dozens of new ways to make your cities unique, and you can always head to the SimCity Exchange to download imaginative add-ons created by other users. The infinite expandability and infinite replayability of this game should keep would-be mayors completely occupied until they move to the suburbs of The Sims. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Addictive
I find this game very addictive, and considerably better than 2000. I really like the News Ticker, which gives you great advice on how to run your city. It does take up a lot of memory, though, so it's a good thing my computer has so much. I've heard that it tends to destroy your computer, so if you don't want that to happen, here's my advice: Don't take out the CD until the program is done being exited, don't install it if your computer can't handle it, and when you do take out the CD, be sure to press Ctrl, alt, and Delete and close all tasks that sound anything like "SimCity."

My only complaints are this: it makes your computer run slowly, and when locusts hit your town, the sound effects don't ever go away.

Happy playing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great game in its day; rather old now.
This was a great game back in its day. However, it is old and dated now. It was a vast improvement over SimCity 2000 and the original SimCity, offering larger cities and maps and improved graphics and other details.

For all the reviewers who are being so negative, look at the system requirements. This game was designed for Windows 95 and 98, not 2000 or XP. Most games like that will not run properly under 2000 or XP (if at all). For those of you with 2000 or XP, I recommend SimCity 4 (Rush Hour or Deluxe Edition) instead.

Technology marches on, and it is critical to verify that your system meets the requirements of the software programs (and understanding that old programs may no longer work on newer PCs and operating systems).

2-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars for win 98, 0 for others
Like other reviewers, I've had problems with this game on both Win 2k and Windows XP. On 2k, the game installs and loads, but stalls on the first screen. On XP, the game installs but does not load.
I originally bought this in China (legally) and thought that this may be the reason. I used to play it on a Windows 98 machine until that machine crashed, and I had to upgrade to 2k, and have not played it since.
I also contacted EA Tech Support who insisted that this game is/was designed for Windows 98. They suggested I run the compatibility wizard but this was a failure.
Why they're still selling this game escapes me. Maybe they've corrected things on later versions though.
If you can get it to run, this really is a fun game. There are plenty of improvements from Sim City 2000 that I enjoyed, especially the more logical traffic and crime patterns, and the huge increase in map size.
All in all though, don't buy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars simy 3000
this game is a city.you build roads etc.How is it that no one likes this game anymore?duh!the next one.It is sad that this game is not enough for people anymore.it should be.

1-0 out of 5 stars Computer Problems
Do not buy this game. I was really, really excited when I bought it, but when my dad and I tried to install it, it didn't work. It just, instead, sort-of-ruined our computer. That made me and my sister not able to buy any more Sims games, which really stinks. Do not buy this computer-breaking game! I'm hoping that this reveiw will save your computer from Sim City 3000 Unlimited's horrible software (when I say horrible software, I mean horrible software). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

SimCity Classic: The original city simulator. A true classic in computer entertainment, SimCity dares you to design and build the city of your dreams. SimCity took the computer world by storm (well, by earthquake anyway), stretched the bounds of entertainment software, and tore down the wall between fun and learning. With its simple interface and the ability to run on almost any computer, SimCity Classic is the best introduction to both simulation games and city planning on this or any other planet.

SimTower: The vertical empire. Start by building a small office complex: a lobby, a few offices, and a café. Expand by adding more floors, more offices, and elevators. Then diversify to hotel rooms, shops, theaters, restaurants, condos, and more as you build your way to the top. Success in SimTower requires design talent, management skills, business acumen, and the ability to keep your customers happy. Be on the lookout for fires, insect infestations, terrorists, and--you'll find out soon enough.

Streets of SimCity: It's your city to cruise through or bruise through. Check out one of over 50 built-in cities, or take on opponents in an urban free-for-all while skidding, bootlegging, and blasting away. Speed through a sprawling metropolis or tackle one of Streets's rim-rattling missions. On the Streets of SimCity, you set the road rules. Combat up to seven other players in network mode over LAN, Internet, or modem.

SimCopter: Fly missions in the metropolis. Attention SimCopter pilot: you're cleared for a rooftop landing, where the local temperature is a balmy 678. That's because there's a five-alarm fire in progress, not to mention rampant riots and SimCitizens running for their SimLives. So soar through 30 built-in cities in hyper-realistic 3-D and perform death-defying missions. Complete your heroics and receive your rewards: a snazzier copter, a tougher mission, and more near-death experiences.

SimIsle: Missions in the rain forest. OK, so you're the king of the forest--make that rain forest. Now what are you going to do? You'd better decide fast because there are miners, poachers, petrochemical companies, endangered species, tourists, polluters, ecologists, natural disasters, and even UFOs, all vying for your attention--and for your resources. With teams of agents at your command, you'll embark on missions to determine the fate of a series of island rain forests.

SimSafari: Create and explore your own African safari park and camp. SimSafari brings Africa to you! Imagine yourself in rugged bush country, peering through binoculars at vast herds of elephants, zebras, and lions. Choose from exotic plants and wildlife to create your own safari park. Team with a neighboring village and build a flourishing safari camp. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Pack, but SimIsle sux
Okay, first warning: like other people said, these games were made from 1989-1997, so some of them are REALLY old. If you want moderately modern games for the price, I reccomend the SimMania 2 pack. Anyway, my uncle bought this as a gift for me 3 yrs. ago. I'll rate the games individually:

- SimCity Classic (1989, Maxis)
Yep, folks, it's the first SimCity ever. While it certainly was a great game for it's time (it must've been good then if Maxis got daily calls from the CIA), it is preceded by the sequels (Sim City 3000 and 4), with even more options, so if you're planning on buying the entire set just for this, don't.
If you want a taste of the game right now, you can check out SimCity's website at www.simcity.com because they have an online version of it on their website. Only problem: you have to have a username.

- SimTower (1994, Maxis/Yoot Saito)
SimTower, as the name describes, allows you to build your own 100-story tower with condos, restaraunts, offices, shops, all that good stuff. Even though I haven't played it in a long time (too much time playing Sims) it's pretty fun. I will warn you about this: it is a bit hard to get past 3 stars, because the people in the suite will never like you. Good for it's time, and I'd really like a SimTower 2.

- Streets of SimCity (1997, Maxis)
Like some people said, this really isn't a Sim game. Though you can customize your own cities with the help of the SimCity 2000 Urban Renewal Kit, and make the gameplay feel a lot like the U-Drive-It missions from SimCity 4. Though nevertheless, it's a good game when you really aren't focusing on a game and you're just looking through your CD collection.

- SimCopter (1996, Maxis)
I have a feeling this is an updated version of Raid on Bungling Bay (NES), Will Wright's first game before creating SimCity. I've barely played this game, though I personally think it's sorta hard to control your helicopter.

- SimIsle (1995, Maxis)
Most disposable game: ever. In SimIsle, I don't get the very concept of what you're supposed to do. I "build" something, and hire architects and construction workers, and nothing happens...nothing. Recommended only if you're on a quest for every Sim game ever made.

- SimSafari (1998, EA/Maxis)
SimSafari is a nice novelty to pass the time. I personally remember renting SimSafari from the video store when I was little. Oh, how much fun I had... though anyway, being the sequel to SimPark (the game with the annoying frog, thank god for the Rizzo Off option) it is set in the African Savannah plains. Your objective is to attract people to your safari camp and get 5 stars, and meanwhile help the village get essentials like a granary, a schoolhouse, etc. via hiring the villagers. Though it certainly isn't the best game in the world, it is pretty fun if you're trying to pass the time.

That is my review.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep Sim Copter & trash the rest
Sim City- eh, an ok game,, pretty boring though, same thing happens every time.. you build your city, citizens demand that taxes should be lowered, a big fire, etc... zzz....

Sim Tower- this game is KINDA fun but again, just kind of monotnous. This is kind of the reason why I don't like a lot of "Sim" games

Sim Isle- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

Sim Safari: a boring, stupid, corny, fruity, kiddie game

Streets of Sim City- zzzz,, I get bored with racing games very quickly

Sim Copter- Now THIS game is FUN!!!!! Look for my seperate review on this first.

Bottom line: dont waste the $, just buy Sim Copter seperate- it's the only fun Sim game (with the slight exception of Sim City 2000, and Sim Tower is midly allright)

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Fun
Retro gamming is not for everyone. I like to play old games, well, because I just have a problem with nostalgia. If you your not worried about graphics and you want to explore the early years of the "SIMS" universe, then it would not hurt to drop a couple of bucks for this pack of games.

Be warned, I could not get all of the games to run on my system, which is still 6 months away from not being modern anymore. But since the price was reasonable I still felt it was worth the three games I was able to run.

The original Sim City is just stupid fun. It's so easy to build a quick city and it's still easy to fail. This is a no frills, time killing game.

Sim Copter was by far my favorite. Talk about a game that had so much potential, but it still turned out to be fun to play. Maxis should have gone out of house on this one, like to MICROPROSE (while they lasted). The people inhabiting the cities are like the original "Sims" and funny to hear where I think the simesse language came from considering what's it's evolved to today.

Sim Tower was a dirty little pleasure. Who thought that building and office tower with apartments, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. could be soo much fun?!

Sim Island, just throw it away when you open the box.

Like I said, the game only costs a few bucks so why not give it a try. Worst case is you loose a few dollars from what you paid when you sell to the pawn shop.

4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the games in Sim Mania
Sim Mania is an excellent game pack from the creators of the original Sim City. This pack includes six fantastic simulation games from Maxis and Electronic Arts incorporated.Games include the original Sim City, Sim Tower, Sim Isle, Sim Safari, Sim Copter, and Streets Of Sim City. Most of the games in this pack are simple to figure out but Sim Isle takes a little more time and effort. The original Sim City is the beginning of the Maxis Sim game series. In Sim Tower, you are a building owner and a construction worker to create the building. You have the choice of making it an office building, hotel suite, condo complex, and a restaraunt facility. In Sim Isle, you are in charge of creating an island and hiring people to maintain the island. In Sim Safari, you are in charge of creating a Safari park in Africa. You get to place the animals that you desire in the park and designing the camp site. This game is especially good for those who enjoy animals and the wildlife.Sim Copter is an exciting game where you are the pilot of a rescue helicopter. You are responsible for clearing traffic jams, fighting fires, reporting crimes, transporting people from one area of the town to another, rescuing people from rooftops and turned over boats, and getting injured people to the hospital.Streets of Sim City is a great game for those who enjoy high speed auto games as well as a little bit of shoot'em up and bang'em up action. If you do decide to purchase this product, you will have hours of computer entertainment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some of the games didn't work.... Disappointing
Sim Safari and The Streets Of Sim City didn't work on my computer much like i_love_ritchie_forever... I feel your pain!
Anyway, the games that do work are cool.

Sim City is the classic, very first version of the now famous Sim City. The graphics are terrible... but the game itself is pretty cool. It has cool scenarios and I like playing around with the options on the menus.

Sim Isle is alright... I suppose. It's pretty boring, I don't know why some people think it's brilliant. I played it, but I didn't really understand it.

Sim Copter is cool. I love flying the helicopter around and crashing into things. I also love using the megaphone. I'll play it again.

I have played Streets of Simcity. It's pretty boring. You just drive around Simcity and blow yourself up.

My favourite game was Sim Tower. I LOVE IT! I love building the tower and renaming all the people and the shops. I like the events and the cool sounds

This gets 3 stars because of Sim Tower. If Sim Tower wasn't on it, it would get only 2 stars. Considering some of the games didn't work on my computer, I probably have a right to be disappointed. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Rome - and apparently the mall - wasn't built in a day
Okay, first off, this game plays quite nicely on my system, which is only a few months old and rocks righteously.

I built two malls and promptly went bankrupt both times before I went online searching for a strategy guide or cheat codes.[Caveat - no cheat codes apparently exist.I think all simulations should have cheat codes for impatient people like me who just want to get down to the business of building and not futz around with legitimate strategy.I found plenty of sites that claimed to have codes, but they all worked on MT1, not MT2.]

I found a detailed strategy guide by a regular player type (who obviously has more patience than an army of preschool teachers) by the name of "soldyne" that does a pretty good job of explaining the game and how to actually make a profit and keep playing for a long time.

The biggest tip I can offer is G-O S-L-O-W.If you try to research everything all at once or hire expensive staff right off the bat or fill up your mall with all the objects too early, you won't be able to recover, even with loans.

Build the mall that soldyne suggests.Start small and expand only when you're making a profit.Expand slowly, going up rather than out.Watch your shops carefully and adjust rents and sales cut according to their performance.

For ten bucks, I've found this to be a pretty fun simulation game.It just requires a lot of patience - maybe more than $10 worth.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, money and energy
This is undoubtedly the worst simulation game to have ever been released. The graphics are poor, even at the highest resolution; the game is both confusing and uninteresting; and the scenarios are, at best, uninspired.Don't bother with this game...buy Tropico, Zoo Tycoon, or something else designed by people with talent.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT the greatest game
Installing mall tycoon 2 wasn't the problem but getting the game to work for more then 15 min at a time was the challenge. It would send me back to the desktop after the first 15-20 min. into it. I finally found a patch on the internet witch solved the problem, but after I finally got the game to work it wasnt as fun as I thought it would be. Its hard to understand how to play and when you do get the hang of it its imposible to keep your mall from going bankrupt (even with loans). Its just not worth the money or time to figure it out! I wish I would of read the reviews before I bought it. I strongly recomend not wasting your time with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME DIDN'T WORK FOR ME & IT PROBABLY WON'T FOR YOU!!
When I saw the Mall Tycoon 2 game at my school book fair, I was so excited that I could get it and I thought it would be so fun to play. My Mom bought it for me forValentines Day and I immediatly installed it on my computer. This took a while, but finally it completed. I crossed my fingers, hoping it would work b/c my cousin said it didn't work on her comp. when I bought her the same game for her bday. At first, I thought it was working but after all the names of the company's flashed by, it went back to my desktop. I tried everything and it still won't work. Mabye my system isn't up to date enought; i don't know. But after skimming through the other reviews, I think that the company that made this game is not that great since the other 1's said the same thing. DON"T BUY THIS GAME; IT IS A BIG RIPPOFF!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dose not work.Waste of money
I got the first mall tycoon for my birthday last year and it didn't work I took it back 2 times and got new ones and none of them worked. When mall tycoon came out I got it again for my birthday, I'm a huge fan of these kind of games have them all. But just like the first one the first 4 times I loaded it and it didn't work and when it did it didn't work good. Its a waste of money and a big disappointment, I was very excited by the concept of building the mall but all that happed was that i was disappointed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME IS THE BEST
I bought this game when I was 9 years old. It became my favorite game. In the game you have to take care of norns, ettins or grendels(you decide!)
You can breed norns and ettins in the same world together, of course you can also have grendels there, but the problem may be, that the grendels can sometimes kill norns and ettins, so I recommend to breed grendels in separate world. The fan-made addons all around the internet make the game much more interesting to play! Norns are cute, so are ettins(they've became my favorite breed, lately) and (suprise!)I also think that grendels are cute! I highly recommend this game to everyone above the age of 8.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amy`s ConsumerReport
Cretures 3 is great!Be careful about grendels. They can kill your Norns. If you create more than six woulds a wourld will go down.Click on arrows to reach it.IT I`s a pain installing but i`s wourth it! It also needs connpatibillidy.Buy Cretures 3 and other creatures games. It needs a user manual. I like this game because I like annimals plants and any Cretures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!!! Love this game!
This is the best game ever! By the way, norns are WAY hardier than belived and with a watchfull eye they can thrive easily.

Hint: If you're worried about grendels, just get 2 eggs before they hatch and put them in water! No more grendels!

I think the medical pod is really cool, you can see if your norn is sick, and then you can help it. The machines are really cool too, you can connect them to make super machines to help you or your norns.

Overall, this is a really cool game, and should get it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for casual gamers...
Unless you invest considerable time reading the manual or online websites on how to play the game, you can accomplish nothing with this game.I spent a couple of hours trying to make sense of the game, and trying to see if I could understand the basic activities and goals, and ended up feeling very frustrated as I could figure out nothing.Absolutely nothing.Compare this to best-sellers like ... where even a novice player can enjoy the game at a basic level without having to study a manual.Yes, I know, Creatures 3 does not fit into your typical game genres, but that is *all the more reason* for having a good in-game help / guidance system for novice players.I should know - I have worked in the game industry for 9 years ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Possible best game ever!
You might look at Creatures 3 and think "for babies" or "how stupid is THAT!" that is not true. this is possibly the best game ever, not excluding Star Wars Jedi Knight 2, or Star Trek Elite Force. This was my third Creatures game, the first (Creatures Playground) was a little young, Creatures 2 the second was kinda pitiful (don't buy that one), but this one blows them out of the water. The peaceful, explorer norns have left there home world in a shee ship, but it was ambushed by the grendels, and the shee went to the planet, leaving the norns to fend for themselves- with your help. The ettins are engineers that, for some reason, take all the stuff to there terrarium. The grendels are villans, bullies, and almost vicious-looking. They, for some reason, take all the norns and attack them.
The ship is full fledged, with a bridge, engineering section, Norn terrarium (green grass, trees, a pond, and a learning center. I use the learning center to stash stuff like the ettins) ettin terrarium (desert, with a volcano) Jungle terrarium (grendels, jungle and pirahnas) Aquatic terrarium (kind of a hobbie center, a garden, or maybe a off duty lounge). A hint: when you find the control for the grendels and ettins, throw the grendel in one of the airlocks and just shut the door.

I don't reccomend this if you don't have much time, but if you do the price would be worth it up to $$. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Are there any computer and video game players that haven't dreamed of piloting an intergalactic starfighter against an overwhelming enemy assault? Perhaps there are--but if you share that dream, you can live the vision, at least in computer game form, with Interplay's high-octane space combat simulation FreeSpace 2.

Placing you in the role of a nameless, but extremely able, Terran pilot, FreeSpace 2 continues the complex story first introduced in its predecessor, Descent FreeSpace: The Great War. Over 30 years have passed, but the nefarious, spiderlike Shivan race continues to threaten Earth and its peaceful ally, the Vasudan Empire.

Over the course of 30 new single-player missions, a dynamic tale of both civil war and armageddon unfolds; the improved storyline is just one of several sequel improvements. FreeSpace 2 implements the most impressive 3-D graphics of any space-combat simulation to date--prepare to feast on mammoth capital ships, missile trails, detailed ships, and eye-opening, screen-filling explosions. Many FreeSpace 2 missions occur within dense nebulae. The immersive, clouded environment offers intense dogfighting gameplay to match the dazzling visuals. When you're finished with the single-player campaign, hop online and compete against others, in both team and solo warfare, on Volition's online service. --Doug Radcliffe ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The all-time pinnacle of space sim games?
I remember getting an ad for the original Freespace just before it came out back in 1998 and mentally dropping my jaw at the "life-sized" starcruisers exhibited in the glossy fold-out I'd been sent. I bought the dramatically titled "Descent: Freespace - The Great War" and enjoyed it immensely. Not since the release of the first two Wing Commander games had a computer game blown me away in quite the same way.

A couple years later, I was in the minority in hearing about the release of this, the sequel. The same amazing graphics (updated to accomodate Moore's Law, of course) with added features like nebula effects and beam weapons -- something for which sci-fi sim fans have clamored for ages -- are instant buying incentives. But most importantly, these games have a plot worth paying attention to, which, keeping the short attention span of the game playing populace in mind, explains why Freespace 2 sold as poorly as it did. That Interplay (FS2's publisher) barely promoted it probably didn't help much, either (I never got a glossy fold-out about Freespace 2).

It's honestly bewildering to look back on how badly this series apparently fared; the original's main competition at the time was Wing Commander: Prophecy, a shameless and despicably cartoony co-opting of the franchise name that most closely resembled an ugly, speed-addicted old hooker wearing too much makeup. A "Moulin Rouge" to Freespace's "Return of the Jedi." For many, Freespace 2's failure marked the sad end of an era for the genre.

More recent contributions to the field of space sims include Starlancer and Freelancer, two games from the original creators of Wing Commander. Starlancer is the gaming equivalent of the Wing Commander movie (you know, that endlessly terrible suckfest starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Chris Roberts's ego), taking Chris Roberts's strange obsession with World War II in space to an illogical and tedious extreme.

Freelancer has breathtaking graphics going for it, but its plot and gameplay leave something to be desired. It's overreaching goal of creating a living, breathing universe fails since Digital Anvil's idea of a "living, breathing universe" is apparently synonymous with a big game of Madlibs in space, turning Freelancer into a mildly amusing diversion a couple notches above a screensaver. And as far as repetitive shoot-the-monster role-playing games go, Diablo II has it beat quite soundly in terms of both replayability and sheer fun factor.

As a political footnote, Volition (FS2's developer) was forced out of their contract with Interplay a while back. In lieu of being able to make a Freespace 3, the source code to Freespace 2 was made available to the public. Since then, an outpouring of freelance talent has created such interesting projects as "FS2_Open" (largely a graphical updating of Freespace 2 to take advantage of advances in video card technology and processor speed) and the "Wing Commander Saga," a Freespace 2/Wing Commander mod. If the included FRED (FReespace EDitor) wasn't enough to keep one occupied playing user-created missions, the near-unsettling drive of the FS2 mod community is sure to create literally endless replayability for this series.

As far as space sims go, the duology of Wing Commander and Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi will forever sit as kings of the hill in my view, but Freespace 2 takes an entirely respectable second place. It's well worth the lofty prices one is forced to shell out these days in order to get a full, working copy, especially considering the thriving mod community surrounding the game.

Freespace 2 artfully balances style and substance. Volition made a visually-stunning masterpiece with a pulse that, while not as intimately cinematic as the Wing Commander series, skillfully sets the "suspension of disbelief" button in the gamer's mind to "On." This is the real deal. You can't go wrong with Freespace 2, no matter how you slice it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Man this brings back Memories
I just got this game from a friend who just happened to not want it anymore and let me tell you,,,I am having fun. Pretty good story and acting is not bad, graphics are still on par. I remember the wing comander games and by far this blows those away. If you can't afford the 95.0 dollars, like who can?
Get it if you can this is a great game.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best space combat game ever created by human hands!
This game will check the meaning of the word "game" for you.

1.) Deep, well-writen sci-fi plot.

2.) Incedibly dog-fighting action

3.) Capital ships have huge beam cannons that can punch right through hostile ships (awe-inspiring). Bottom line here, the graphics rock!

4.)Dozens of user-made campaigns online. Done with the main campaign? Go download some more.

5.) Amazing battles and dogfights composing of seemingly endless swarms of allied and hostile fighters.

6.) Rise through the ranks, earn medals, and even acquire your own squadren to command.

7.) Great multiplayer modes!

8.) An excellent mission editor which allows you to easily, and quickly, create missions of pro developer quality...without any programming!

9.) Some missions are very non-linear. So sometimes what you do in one mission, effects the next mission (fail to destroy a cruiser? It may just show up in the next battle).

10.) Amazing cutscenes, better than any other game i've ever played.

11.) High replay value.

12.) Heck, everything about this game rocks.

Bottom Line:

This game blows away any other space combat game! BUY THIS GAME NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest Space Simulation ever created
Though this game is coming up on 5 years old, it has aged very well.I have replayed the game more times than I ever had any other game. You will see why it is THE benchmark upon which all other space sim games are based. It's a travesty that it didn't get more credit and press. If you enjoy combat flight simulations and you haven't played this one, you're missing out.Play it; you won't be disappointed.

Now if only Volition would release a Freespace 3!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sadly.. still is the best
The only competence is Starlancer and Freelancer.. but still they don't enough good.

Stunning graphics (even for a pc for 2004). Luckily you can use max resolution, max details.. (the game need only a pentium-2 but now everybody have a p3,p4 or athlon!).

Also it run without problems in XP. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SimTower
SimTower is a really great game, but the graphics for people really stink. They are just like pixeled black dots-and when they are red they are angry, if they are blue, they are given a specific name-and the movie places need more movie options. Plus you need to put elevators for higher floors--from 45 to 100 (if you ever reach it)or more. Overall, it is very fun, but don't expect it to have very good graphics!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good fun but........
Well, this game is a ton of fun through 1-3 stars. But after people start to get incredibly aggravated with your condo rates (even when the are so low you are losing money) and your cash starts going down the drain. But it is very addicting, so even when you lose you start right over again. It's like suddenly zooming into one of the buildings that is being built in SimCity. You start with nothing, except a few thousand dollars and an empty lot.But as you build your tower up (I suggest leaving the basment levels for later because you will want them for cooler stuff later, like a subway) from a 1 star rating to a 5, you get many new features that improve your Tower.Oh...but just to warn you, to change the price you charge for certain rooms, you have to click on every single one.But besides all the cons it is really fun and should work on any Window computer, though you might need to change it's compatibility. If you do decide to buy, good luck to you, and may your tower ever grow taller and a terrorist never put a bomb in your building.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very very very very very Great
This game is the best game I played!!!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars i agree with stamphers
this game is really fun in the beggining you get to build stuff and people move in.but towards the end it gets boring because like everyone moves out and your down money and cant build anything. so theres nothing to do but stop the game. but i did find a souloution for this that rarely works in the night every time build a bunch of condos for people to move into because some mornings people move out otherwise i would rate it a 5 but i couldnt really reccomend for you to buy it or not. if you like short games buy it.if you like to finish games to their full extent i strongly reccomend that you DO NOT BUY IT! but ill leave it up to you

5-0 out of 5 stars Europa 1400 Gold - Much Better
I played the original Europa 1400 "The Guild" which was a bit buggy, and really wasn't fun to play because of the game crashing every 10 minutes or so.I've been playing Gold for awhile now, and it seems to be a little less buggy. It actually runs pretty good for me, online play still doesn't work worth a crap, but people say playing it on lan works O.K.I'm not sure because I haven't beenable to test it myself. With gold there are plenty of new items that will help you politicaly and revenge, or for your own well being. Also new professions, like the Traveling Entertainer, Tailor, and Graveyard Keeper.Which bring in good money from the start, especailly Graveyard Keeper and Traveling Entertainers. New building types, like the Magnificant palace with cannon tower, so on.Where you can make wizards potions that you can't sell, but come in handy.I'd say it's worth every penny. It's the best game to play when you have nothing to do basically, sit back kidnap some people, rob people, whatever. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Hunter 2 Is AWESOME!!!!!!
I've been playing SH2 For a few months and I have to say It is really great. You can fight a custom mission and choose your submarine map and encounter (sub, convoy,or warship). You can also fight any one of the missions at any time or you can do a campaighn filled with challenging missions. You can choose from an array of submarines including The type 21, (my perssonal favorite)The true silent hunter. The controlls are easy to use (I would Know I'm Only 12) and gameplay is simple. Enjoy this pimped game

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Hunter 2
I found the game quite challenging. I have found numerious enhancments to increase the screen resolution, improved torpedo wakes, oil slicks, and better secondary explosions. I joined the Wolfpack league and there are a multitude of enhancements that out there to improve the game and game play. I find it quite a "sweating" experince. Nothing like being "pinged" by a DD or DE that is really out to get you.

There are also a multitude of add on single player missions, and multiplayer missions out there, and they keep the action level up. I also have modded the rain and storm problem with another add on all long with improved scenery. I am having a blast with the game. I bought it at the same time I got Destroyer Command, and I enjoy them both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Realistic, Sneaky-like, yet difficult
This is a great realistic submarine perspective. When you sit at your computer you feel like a true German sub commander.I always liked games where stealth is involved.I like patience too.If you have patience and if you like difficulty, you will most likely really like this game.I must admit, it is very difficult, and takes some time to finally understand the simple basics of this game.I had to read through the manual a number of times to get everything to where I understood. But when that is all worked out, you will have yourself a blast.I give it 4 stars, the difficulty involved to start out with is its only downfall.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unseaworthy
Ah...the WWII U-Boat; it instantly conjures up memories of classic movies such as Das Boot. Imagine the terror of a depth charge attack, the thrill of a successful torpedo attack, and the repugnant stench of forty-four sweating sailors stuck inside a steel cylinder no wider than a city bus...

Well there's none of that here. If Ultimation and Ubi Soft were aiming to create a highly realistic and enjoyable simulation of WWII submarine warfare, they missed. If they intended to create a poorly-coded, antiquated and historically inaccurate pile of unstable hacks, then congratulations. Without a doubt, this was one of the most disappointing games I have ever played, with glaring faults and bugs that should have easily caught by QA.

The graphics are mediocre at best, a fact made worse by SH2's maximum resolution of 800x600. Remember the famous storm scene in Das Boot? Well, in SH2, there are two types of weather: sunny and cloudy. There is no rain, no sleet, no spray in your face, nothing. To SH2's credit, the ship and aircraft models are nicely done, but the pyrotechnical effects are severely underwhelming. While the ship's control stations look decent, there is no control view room. Admitedly this is a quibbling point, but a control room would have made you feel as if you were inside a real U-boat, not just gazing at static displays.

Which wouldn't be so bad if those stations were actually USEFUL. Everything, navigation, rangefinding, attacking, it can all be done from the map view. This is rarely, if ever, any reason to visit the other stations. Particularly useless is the sound station, in which the game automatically marks down contacts, their bearing, and the type of vessel, so all you get to down is simply turn the dial and listen to the sounds of their engines. Speaking of sound, the game's audio is severely lacking. When I hit an oil tanker with a torpedo, I want it to sound as if I am bringing about the end of humanity itself, not a tinny, stock "boom" that I have heard in countless games before.

I have never captained a naval vessel in my life, but I am sure such a vocation includes concepts like "do not run into other ships" and "do not run into ground." Unfortunately, the AI of Silent Hunter 2 seems to have not taken notice of these basic martime rules. In one mission, I was tasked with sinking two British battlecruisers, so I quietly slid into their midst and unleased all my torpedoes against the lead battlecruiser. Shortly afterwards, the trailing battlecruisers gleefully rammed into the flaming hulk of the first battlecruiser, allowing me to pick it off with ease. The nearby destroyers would have been a threat to me had they NOT ALSO RAMMED EACH OTHER AND SUNK coming to attack me! Another time I avoided the H.M.S Ark Royal's destroyer escorts when they ran themselves aground on nearby islands. To add insult to injury, the beached vessels were sticking out of the ground at a 90 degree angle like giant lawn darts. While the AI can be monumentally stupid, it can also pinpoint your exact location 100 meters under the water WITHOUT THE AID OF SONAR and drop depth charges upon your hapless submarine with unerring accuracy.

With the possible exception of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, this has to be one of the most poorly coded simulations I have experienced. While I was successful in running the game under Windows XP, I could rarely complete a mission without a crash to desktop. Other bugs are numerous; sometimes I would lay one waypoint on the map, and the game would lay down 100 waypoints right on top of each other. The pitch of the engines would often remain unchanged, even when I increased speed to flank from a near crawl. It is impossible to play through SH2 without wondering if the developers flunked all their computer science classes. For example, for reasons beyond my explanation, Silent Hunter 2 and vehicle viewer are two seperate programs, so to keep the user from (heaven forbid!) seeing his desktop when switching between the programs, the game actually has a "SH2 Screen Blanker" to blank your screen! Such inexplicable programming practices points to a lack of experience on the developer's part.

Even if the game were eventually patched up, I still could not recommend this game. Don't let the current dearth of submarine simulations part you from your hard-earned money. Go play a real WWII submarine sim, like the original Silent Hunter or Aces of the Deep.

4-0 out of 5 stars Resturant Empre: Bring on the food!!
I got this game a couple of days ago and it's really fun! You choose your chef, hire waiters/waitresses, pick what's on your menu, and off you go! Here are some pros and cons of this game.

PROS

You get to choose he kind of cuisine you want in your resturant.
You can have input on how to decorate your resturant and you can redecorate at any time.
The game is fun because there is no limit to the amount of resturants you build.

CONS:

It's so hard to make money!
There is only one scenario.(there may be more, but I've only found one!)
In sandbox mode, where you start from the ground up and build your own resturant, you can't enter the cooking contest!

If you like food, this is a good buy. For young kids this game would be very confusing. I am 10 and I still have trouble with it!This game is really addicting. Once you start, you can't stop! If you have lots of free time, this game is best. If you can only play for, say, 10 min., it would be hard to get into the game.

When the third level is completed, the player has won Enterprise mode.
  • Tutorial ModeTutorial mode allows you to play through eight different sessions that teach you about different aspects of the game, such as investigating news stories, committing acts of espionage and sabotage, negotiating settlements in lawsuits, and publishing your tabloid.
  • Tutorial mode is the recommended first stop for all new players, and it is best if you complete all eight sessions. When done, it is recommended that you try a game in Free Play before attempting to beat Enterprise or one of the Scenarios.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hold the Phone!!!
I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here. This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC.There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it.Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants.BWUAHAHAHA!!!

But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level. You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard!My description here doesn't even do it justice.Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out.If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
Very unhappy with the purchase of this software! Per the maker of the game...they are having problems with it running on a
MAC computer....we found this all out after we had tried to install it! (and had to go on the Company website for support) Of course they do not let you know that prior to purchasing the software.....so now they have our money and we have useless software along with very disappointed kids! :(
Stay away from this item and maybe others made by this Company!

1-0 out of 5 stars bad port, boring game
I received this game last year as a gift and I had nothing but problems with it. I was in touch with the company who ported it from the PC version. I think it was one of their first Mac ports, and they were little help. I finally got it working unders some conditions on my wifes Powerbook.I never could get it working on my G4 766Mhz desktop. I think it was the Nvidia card.Oh, the game is a complete memory hog, too.

Anyway, after playing the game for awhile, I discovered, while it is pretty to look at and fun for an hour or two, it is completely boring beyond that.

In sum, this game shares the SIM moniker but it doesn't live up to the SIMs name.

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing, with serious tech problems
It's simple at first, and kind of fun. However, as the game progresses, the roller coasters and attractions get harder and harder to figure out. The game (even with my G4 Cube) often freezes, and even in the game itself your rides break more often than natural (if you get my drift), the people you hire to fix rides and clean up the park stop doing their jobs even when you place them DIRECTLY in front of a problem. In the full version, all the little details confuse you to the point your head will almost explode. The people in your park get more and more impossible to please. Its more frustrating than fun. ...
