4-0 out of 5 stars a much better game thanSS1
THIS GAME IS DA BOMB!!!!IT HAS A KILLER SOUNDTRACK AND IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN STREETSK8ER 1.AND IT HAS A SKATEPARK EDITOR WHICH IS ALSO VERY COOL.AND THE LEVELS R MUCH MUCH MORE BIGER AND WIDER.THE LOW THING ABOUT IT IS THAT ITS JUST TOO EASY!!!!,I MEAN,I BEAT THE GAME IN 1 DAY!!AND COMBOS ARE JUST TOO HARD TO LAND.BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS NICE.IF U ARE GOING TO GET 2 GAMES.GET STREETSK8ER2,AND THPS2,DON'T BUY THPS,IT IS OLD AND DOESN'T HAVE AS MUCH MOVES.THATS ALL FOR ME,PEACE OUT.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the real thing.
Given that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is bound to be rented out at your local video store, and always sold out at retail outlets, and never *ever*available used, this game can give you a temporary skateboarding fix.Itappears to use the same engine as Pro Skater, with a similar look and feelto both games.

The difference is in the details.Tony Hawk lets youstring together hundreds of moves to make wicked combos.Street Skaterseems to have about three moves per character.TH requires real skill tobe land tricks, SS lets you land flat on your face and still pull off atrick.TH's control configurations are more intuitive -- maybe it'sbecause I learned them first, but it seems like SS is harder to control. Street Skater's levels are massive, like TH's, but since each level istimed and has a linear progression you have to make from start to finish,it's not easy to explore.

The only plus on SS' side is that it has askate park editor, which is fun to play around with. But I found myselfwishing I could create a park and skate it with Tony instead of SS fourcharacters, and TH2 is coming soon and features a better editor.

Like Isaid, SS is a temporary fix. You'll only go through its three levels somany times before you'll crave more levels, more space, more goals, morecharacters, and better play control, and you'll find yourself getting TonyHawk for whatever price you can.

3-0 out of 5 stars good game for the most part
this game graphically and in many other ways is better than Street Sk8er, the levels are mcuh better and you have to work at the moves instead of pressing "X". however, whoever made this game must be a poser cos what once had good punk music now has lamemetal music. notsomething that you'd want to skate to. how many other skating games do youplay that skate to Static-X and Deftones?especially when the first onehad all punk bands. the music was what Street Sk8er had going for it themost. also, the announcer on this game is 10 times more annoying than thefirst one. so, aside from all that, it is a good game but there are muchbetter games out there for us skate punks such as grind session, tony hawk, and some others that i have yet to check out.

5-0 out of 5 stars good game
definatly a good game great graphics greatdetail and you can build your own skatepark tell me thats not cool ... Read more

this is absoluty the best hockey game i ever played!the only thing i dont like about this, is when a player gets a hat trick there would not be hats on the ice.and it wouldnt be too much to ask for some music after the home team scores.but other than that the game is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANAWESOMEGAME
This is one of the best games I've ever played.I got this game to play just until I got NHL 2001.I'm not so sure I want to get it anymore.Right when I started to play I knew this game was awesome!!Great graphics and the levels of difficulty are really good. What's really good is being able to choose your own jersey. Some people who have NHL 2001 might think it's pretty stupid, but if you ask me it's a really good game.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!
It is the best hocky game I've ever played! One of my favorite features is the create a player because you can give him your own stats. The stats all start at 40 and you have around 400 points to use. You can trade him to different teams. But sometimes the rosters are full so you have to trade him to a different team then trade him to yours. The only bad thing is that the teams will only accept a player that is equal or better to that player. The graphics are good and you can choose different camera angles. You can also turn on and off penalties. Over all it is a very good game.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best of nhl games!
So far i have bought an NHL game for each year since nhlpa93/94.thats 7 games!nhl face off 99 is by far the best hockey game I have ever played!graphics are great, teams are updated, almost all alternate jersy's, great play by play comentary, alsome controles, realistic camera angles, realistic scores, updated arenas, even realistic faces made to look like the actuall player!it was an amazin game.it is still by far my most played nhl game.everything is near perfect!5+ stars!

4-0 out of 5 stars NHL faceoff 99
I think this game is a great game because it has alot of things that NHL faceoff 98 had. This has good graphics and has all updated arenas. I just wish that the game was newer to include the Atlanta Thrashers. I think thatthe game could use some more graphics and it would be a great gamehopefully they will achieve this in NHL faceoff 2000. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Underestimated
I've seen some of the reviews for high heat 2000 and I think they are unfair. I agree that for younger players and those not too interested in baseball the game might not be a good fit. I own all the other baseballtitles being a baseball nut. I have to say the game I play most is HighHeat. It just presents a greater challenge then the other games. High Heathas the most realistic outcomes. In season mode the batting averages are afactor of player skill as much as computer player attributes. I like that.Triple Play is an absolute joke in that department. Again some people liketo have a game where you score runs on homeruns only. thats fine. But ifyou like the challenge, you can't beat Hight Heat at this price. Peace out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bargain Basement Baseball
This game is being deeply discounted and it shows. The players all look the same, no variety to their physique (even MacGwire looks skinny!). The batting interface is sloppy; it's hard to judge where to swing at thepitch. Pitching is OK, but handled better by the other current titles. Thevariety of parks is very good. About the only thing I enjoy about the gameis the home run derby (because the pitches come in fast and straight),although it works best with sluggers. Finally, for a game this lame 8blocks of card memory is a waste. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Blades of Steel was one of the first hockey video gamesfor Nintendo's classic NES game system. However, the series had prettymuch been missing in action for 10 years prior to the debut ofBlades of Steel 2000. Under normal circumstances, you wouldn'texpect a decade-old sports game franchise to return seamlessly with asmash out-of-the-box hit--but the original Blades of Steel wassuch a classic that players everywhere had high hopes for the comeback.

The verdict? Unfortunately, we found Blades of Steel 2000 to bean unpolished attempt at a next-generation hockey game that could haveused a lot more time in development. Graphics boast few frames ofanimation, and control is unwieldy, to say the least. On the brightside, managing rosters is made easy by simplified menus, and, ofcourse, the game features all the NHL teams and a season mode.

But these features offer little consolation. Simply put, there are muchbetter hockey games out there, including NHL 2000 and FaceOff2000. Blades of Steel 2000 is only for players stuck in thepast. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • All the NHL teams
Cons:
  • Poor graphics and controls compared to other hockey video games.

5-0 out of 5 stars this game rocks
this game is so fun i could have played it all day long!u can evan create ur own slope!u should buy this game on the spot if u want to play 1 of the funnist games in the world!

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best snowboarding title for PS1
Radical Entertainment has done 3 Playstation snowboarding games. The first was ESPN X-Games Pro Boarder back in 1998.It went up against Coolboarders 3 for best game honors and won. After that came MTV Sports Snowboarding, which upped the ante a bit while maintaining respectability. The 3rd installment is this game, MTV Sports Pure Ride, which plays and looks similar to its predecessor.Radical's trio tend to win out over CoolBoarders in the options and realism departments, though some will still swear by 989's CoolBoarders series.Pure Ride is certainly not the prettiest game on the block, but neither is the competition. What puts it over the top is Pure Ride's range of activities. Not just a simple race game, there are a diverse array of things to do, like the half-pipe, big air, trick runs, competitions, and a create-a-mountain mode that gives you control over a fairly large course to construct as you please.

Not leaps & bounds better than the CoolBoarders series, but slightly less cartoonish and with a better focus on the various modes, instead of a hodgepodge of fighting/racing/tricking.Certainly underrated.

4-0 out of 5 stars decent...
Snowboarding games aren't my favorite.. I'm more of an RPG gamer. However, Pure Ride is an incredible amount of fun to play and it's one of those games you never get tired of.Lots of board choices, fair amount of riders, and a lot of good slopes. The tricks are interesting, although sometimes it is a bit difficult to hammer out the really high scoring ones. The graphics are smooth and visibility is good for the most part, but at some points it's hard to see what's ahead of the rider. The only other gripe I have is the soundtrack.. 10 songs isn't too bad, but I'd prefer a better selection. All around I think it's a great game and at least worth renting for a while. There's also some pretty cool videos to unlock and watch. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I loved it; I hated it!
I have been a fan of the Shootout series since the beginning, and I must say that when the computer is in charge of both sides, I can play a good game. The computer controlled defense is good, but your computercontrolled players leave much to be desired. For instance, they constantlyrun out of bounds on a fast break so that when you pass to them, it's animmediate turnover.Or, when rebounding, the ball falls right at theirfeet and they don't react to it.I created a player to see if I could takeunfair advantage of the computer and of course I couldn't.Overall, theappearance was very good;however, Allen Iverson is too dark to support theappearance of tattoos if the designers had chosen to include that bit ofrealism. This game is fun to play because of all of the great features ithas, but I would rather give some of that up if my players would react theway they did in NBA Shootout '98.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the best Baseketball game I've Played
After years of playing with NBA Live, In The Zone I dicided to try Shootout after getting sick of Live's slow play. In the Zone on the other hand is to fast the computer is slow on D you can run them out of thebuilding. Shootout 2000 is perfect speed like a real NBA game if your slowon D the computer will take it down the court in a hurry. So Skip thereviews in gaming mags listen to a real basketball fan and gamer this gameis great. Why 4 Stars? Choppy Animation on D.

By the way somebody callGame Informer They gave this game a 4.75 of 10. I give it an 8. Buy It

3-0 out of 5 stars Good in Places
NBA Shootout is a good game, but it gets very annoying after a few games. No matter what you do, the computer point guard will score a career high at any level.Jason Williams scored 54 points on 75% shooting and had 17assists against me when I had Jason Kidd and Allen Iverson double-teaminghim.The computer also never subs during any game below 9 minutes whileyour players get fatigued quite easily. It is very frustrating to makesubstitutions while your opponent, especially his point guard, just go at areally fast pace.Scoring is ridiculous. At six minute quarters, anyonecan get 120 points.Worse, in season mode, the game thinks that everyoneis playing 12-minute NBA quarters. If you play at 6 minute quarters for aseason, the score will be close to a real NBA score, but you will not getanywhere near the rebounds of the computer simulated games. If you want ascoring title, the game has a weird bug, Dee Brown averaged 50+ points forthe year by having an opening 500 point game.I enjoy the game, but it ishard to not get annoyed by these little problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
This is one of the best basketball games ever, you can start with the rosters of the year 99-00 or you can make the ultimate dream team it also has something new called touch shooting some players have a betterpercentage than others on a certain spot on the floor.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best basketball game yet!

Editorial Review

Sony's Gameday comes back for '99, improving on last year's critically acclaimed debut of the series. NFL Gameday 99 includes the usual array of features inherent to the genre (season, exhibition, and tournament play) but also offers fantastic team management options (including virtual drafts), over 1,500 players, and a whopping 500 authentic NFL plays. The statistical tracking is also the most comprehensive we've seen so far, even keeping account of quarterback pressures and tipped passes.

The original Gameday Total Control Passing System (TCPS) is back as well. A glint of true ingenuity, TCPS allows you to control a pass by leading or underthrowing the receiver. Other gameplay features include stiff arms, one-handed receptions, line shifts, and post-play celebrations. It's the subtle nuances, including the refined passing system, that make the gameplay fluid and engaging. Sporting solid play, slick visuals, and plenty of peripheral options, NFL Gameday 99 is a title well worth adding to your sports games library. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • New improved Artificial Intelligence (AI) system adds realism to opponent defenses
  • Phil Simms and Dick Enberg call the play-by-play
  • New 3-D modeling and motion capture create authentic player animation
Cons:
  • Virtually impossible to cause turnovers
  • Occasional technical glitches such as garbled commentary and polygonal breakup

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid football.
This is still agreat football game, but there is not really enough new since last year's title. The graphics are really good, but they look all to similar to last year's. The gameplay is the best yet, and it is set aside by some great commentary and rock music clips that keep the action flowing along quite nicely.

2-0 out of 5 stars Game Day 99
This has to be one of the worst video games ever released. Although thegraphics are impressive and the options are strong, 989 Studios shouldrefund to everyone their $40-50 that was originally paid for this game. Ihave never bought or played a video game that has more "bugs" orerrors than this one. It was like these guys over at 989 studios justdecided to release this poor product regardless of all of the glitches, andcould care less about the qaulity of the product. My advice: Don't letthese guys con you into buying another cheap quality game from them.Iprobably will not buy from these guys again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not the best
This is a solid NFL simulation, but it does have several problems.First, the good things. It probably has the best running game ability of anyPlaystation game (at least the one's I've played, NCAA football, Madden). The passing game is good, though there are several plays that the computerjust can't stop, which I guess most games have. The controls are good, andmake sense. The graphics are good compared to contemporary games.

Nowthe downsides; after about three games (maybe less), you're going to bepraying to Phil Simms to shut his trap. His comments drive you nuts, andthere are a couple of players that have mismatched comments programmed tothem. If you're a stat freak like I am, you'll be bothered that it doesn'ttrack stats very accurately. There are several categories that thecomputer can't track for human controlled teams. Also, I played aboutthree seasons, and I think I got one sack by the computer-controlledlineman.Conversely, you can sit back with the free safety and pick offpass after pass. You can play multiple seasons, but there is not draft, lifetime stat tracking, or retirement worked into the game, which doesn'tmake much sense if you're going to have multiseason capability.

Overall,a decent game for being as old as it is, but certainly not perfect.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good in the begining
Gameday was good while it lasted. When I first got it for Christmas two years ago it was a good game. But as you play it a little bit it getsrather old.THe graphics aren't the best in a game.Buy the game if youwant a one time game.If you want something that you can play more thenonce then buy NFL Blitz 2000!

4-0 out of 5 stars NFLGameday99
this game was pretty kool, but it has some problems like any other game. First of all the passing game was horrible! In NFL Blitz all you have to do is run to the ball. In this game you have to go to the X and then presstriagle when the pass came. It was exteremly hard to time it correctly. Itwas also hard to defend the pass. You would have to run to the recever andswat the ball away with triagle. This was also herd to time.Therunning game, however was very good. You could do many tricks to burn thedefender in your path. This includes spining, cuting back, and runningright through the person. The graphics were exeptional, and thegameplay was fun. I also liked how you could pick from a wide variety ofplays. Overall I thought the game was fun and enjoyable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars fun game back in the day
this game was fun but it was way to easy to score on it you could score at the tap of a button with anybody it had Wayne Gretzky though in this game so that was cool

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth [the price]- I am still playing it!
At [the price], this is a great pickup for your game collection.I loved this game when it first came out and am still playing it 4 years later. The game obviously lacks the expansion teams that have been added over the past several years and does not have the detail that the new games have but it does have great detail for its age.The controls are pretty easy to master so it will not take you long at all to start delivering crushing hip checks, posting shutouts, and picking the corners of the net.The computer puts up a pretty good fight and, while like all games it has glitches, it is very realistic.I really enjoy taking a team, creating players for it, and then playing a season on the All-Star level. If you love hockey and are bored with the games you have, give it a try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value
Faceoff '97 might be a little out of date to today's standards, however it is an excellent hockey game. Game sounds are very realistic as are theplayers and actions. While improving on the graphics of previous PlayStation installments in the series, High Heat Major League Baseball 2002 looks to retain and even improve its reputation for realistic simulation. Player models, stadiums, and other in-game visuals have been totally redesigned, but they haven't thrown the baby out with the bath water. The game builds on the features of the much-acclaimed PC versions, such as adjustable skill levels for the game's athletes, unusual errors (like balks), bullpen warm-up routines for your relief staff, and realistic baseball physics (as opposed to the long-ball arcade play of other titles). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars High Heat gets High Marks
i must admit, at first, i wasn't too crazy about this game the first few times i played it....but then, it all came together.wow!this game is great....the graphics are horrible, but the gameplay kicks major butt.

the hitting interface is the best i have ever experienced.you actually have to "go with the pitch" if you want a hit...the ball is coming in low?directional button down, and swing with "x" button...high heat?directional button up and swing with "x". fielders are awesome....diving snares in the infield...sliding catches in the outfield....great stuff.plus, you can edit any existing player:give him a different name, change his strengths and weak spots, etc. the ONLY thing i would complain about is the fact that the pitchers run out of gas pretty quickly....i have yet to get past the sixth inning with my starters.other than that, this game is simply fantastic.i used to be Triple Play diehard fan....but Triple Play got old so fast....the big home runs every other batter...boring hitting patterns...High Heat does not cater to the ARCADE baseball videogame fans...it caters to the fans who like their baseball-sims REAL.hopefully i can bring Chicago a World Series with the Cubbies!!High Heat is slammin'!!

1-0 out of 5 stars High Heat 2002-The Pitts
High Heat 2002, Where so i begin...the graphics where the worst i've ever seen in a baseball game, the audiance looked like dots of color and the stadiums where worst. The players look terrible and don't have there own stances.I don't know what they were thinking when they made this game. the pitchers are terrible and don't have there own unigue wind ups.the seasons are ok because they have top prospects (like the yankees mick johnson, Randy Kesiler, Ted Lilly..etc) but the trading is terrible, u can only trade one player for another no multi-player deals, not to mention it's to hard to get a good play, and some people like Ken Grifffey JR u can get for someone like Scott Rolen. the game play is ok but the lack of good graphics make it less exciting. All in all this is one of the worst baseball games i've ever played.

4-0 out of 5 stars Real Baseball/Not Home Run Derby
This game is not flashy at all. There are no players running around the bases flipping there bats as they hit their 5th homer of the game (Triple Play/MLB 2001).This game is baseball simulation at its best. The computer can beat you 12-5 on one day, and you can beat them 3-2 the next. The graphics are not great, neither is the play by play, but the players run, throw, hit, and field very real. You can actually score a man from 2nd base on a single. The good pitchers get people out if you work the hitters, while the subpar pitchers struggle to retire the heart of a good team's batting order.Unlike other baseball games, you can actually draw a walk, hit and run effectively, and steal a base with a good runner. The game has a season mode which allows you to promote/demote players among your active roster and your 10-12 minor league players that have actual names of real minor leaguers. For instance, the Yankees minor league players on the game include Soriano.Lilly,Keisler,NJohnson, and Tessmer. This is great b/c sometimes your team will suffer injuries and you can promote one of those guys to take their spot on the roster.Another plus to this game is the stat tracker. The game tracks stats for everything.League Leaders in almost every imaginable category are available. Also, your players go on hot streaks, cold streaks, and even PMartinez is beatable if you can scratch a run or two and shutout the other team.If you like real baseball with real gameplay and are willing to sacrifice some graphics and are willing to put up with subpar announcers, this is real baseball.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home Run
I rented this game at first an everyday i got home i went to my room to play it till i went to bed an i almost didn't eat I looked everywhere here an they didn't have it an i thought it might be here an yes it was. This game is so realistic. If u don't own it get it now or you'll miss the greatest baseball game ever made.

4-0 out of 5 stars tremendously accurate, but graphically horrific
As far as HH2K2 goes, it is the same story as last year: if you're looking for a fun, quick-playing, homer-friendly game that will impress your friends and have you racking up basketball scores, then this is NOT your game. This is a more simulation-oriented attempt at baseball, for those who really don't mind subpar graphics if the gameplay is reasonably accurate.

And, WOW, are the graphics in this one POOR!Egads.I played an exhibition game at the new PNC Park, and the Pittsburgh skyline was comprised of the largest, blockiest polygons I have seen since the days of Earl Weaver Baseball for PC on an ancient EGA monitor. But, if you could put up with last year's mess of a graphics display, then you should be able to stomach this year's model.

Though the back of the box is hilarious. It touts "slamming new tunes" which are nothing more than short snippets of stadium music whenever a decent player comes up to bat, and a "completely overhauled graphics engine" which is ludicrous, as anyone who played Sosa's High Heat 2001 can easily see that the graphics remain 90% unchanged. We're talking pixels as big as donuts here.

There are some minor improvements: there is more animation now so the players seem slightly less wooden, a slightly improved play-by-play job, and some slightly improved in-game snippets of music and sound. Also, the menus are streamlined and easier to follow. And for the purists: YES you can pull a double switch, but NO you cannot warm up pitchers.

Personally, buying anything that says "Triple Play" on it is NOT an option.I, as a longtime baseball fan, simply cannot stomach a game where I can homer twice in the same game with the starting pitcher. Is HH2K2 pretty?Absolutely not.But will those of us that choose substance over style care all that much? Not really. If you want PSX baseball this season, and you consider yourself a "real" fan, this is your only choice. And you can't beat the price. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly good game
This is a fairly good game.I'm not telling you to go out and buy it because there are plenty of newer and better soccer games like ISS Pro Revolution or FIFA 2000.If you already have those other games then you could go out and buy it.You'll get sick of this game pretty fast though.................. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars its not bad. but it sure is awfull
ths is not a game that i think you should buy, its a must rent first. let me name all the good and bad things. lets start with good: you can link some of your tricks, you have multilble place's to choose to ride, the riders are very.....well, good and wierd.
bad: were should i start? i know. each rider has the same tricks as the others, it gets really boring sometimes, you have a manul, but you cant do nothin with it, all you do is manual for about two seconds, and you cant link tricks with it! i don't feel like i really wanna waste my time writting the rest of this, so im outta here

P.S. hope this was helpfull to yah

5-0 out of 5 stars just fine
The RAZORS are back and it is better than ever.It is just a little bad.Even if the music is boring the game is great! The storyline really improved from the first. The characters are very cool and plus theres 13 of them. You even get to play as an old lady. Now that's cool. It is not as good as Tony Hawks Pro skater 2 but you should still get this. ... Read more
