The difference is in the details.Tony Hawk lets youstring together hundreds of moves to make wicked combos.Street Skaterseems to have about three moves per character.TH requires real skill tobe land tricks, SS lets you land flat on your face and still pull off atrick.TH's control configurations are more intuitive -- maybe it'sbecause I learned them first, but it seems like SS is harder to control. Street Skater's levels are massive, like TH's, but since each level istimed and has a linear progression you have to make from start to finish,it's not easy to explore. The only plus on SS' side is that it has askate park editor, which is fun to play around with. But I found myselfwishing I could create a park and skate it with Tony instead of SS fourcharacters, and TH2 is coming soon and features a better editor. Like Isaid, SS is a temporary fix. You'll only go through its three levels somany times before you'll crave more levels, more space, more goals, morecharacters, and better play control, and you'll find yourself getting TonyHawk for whatever price you can.

Editorial Review The verdict? Unfortunately, we found Blades of Steel 2000 to bean unpolished attempt at a next-generation hockey game that could haveused a lot more time in development. Graphics boast few frames ofanimation, and control is unwieldy, to say the least. On the brightside, managing rosters is made easy by simplified menus, and, ofcourse, the game features all the NHL teams and a season mode. But these features offer little consolation. Simply put, there are muchbetter hockey games out there, including NHL 2000 and FaceOff2000. Blades of Steel 2000 is only for players stuck in thepast. --Robb Guido Pros: Reviews (3)

Not leaps & bounds better than the CoolBoarders series, but slightly less cartoonish and with a better focus on the various modes, instead of a hodgepodge of fighting/racing/tricking.Certainly underrated.

Editorial Review The original Gameday Total Control Passing System (TCPS) is back as well. A glint of true ingenuity, TCPS allows you to control a pass by leading or underthrowing the receiver. Other gameplay features include stiff arms, one-handed receptions, line shifts, and post-play celebrations. It's the subtle nuances, including the refined passing system, that make the gameplay fluid and engaging. Sporting solid play, slick visuals, and plenty of peripheral options, NFL Gameday 99 is a title well worth adding to your sports games library. --Sajed Ahmed Pros: Reviews (11)
Nowthe downsides; after about three games (maybe less), you're going to bepraying to Phil Simms to shut his trap. His comments drive you nuts, andthere are a couple of players that have mismatched comments programmed tothem. If you're a stat freak like I am, you'll be bothered that it doesn'ttrack stats very accurately. There are several categories that thecomputer can't track for human controlled teams. Also, I played aboutthree seasons, and I think I got one sack by the computer-controlledlineman.Conversely, you can sit back with the free safety and pick offpass after pass. You can play multiple seasons, but there is not draft, lifetime stat tracking, or retirement worked into the game, which doesn'tmake much sense if you're going to have multiseason capability. Overall,a decent game for being as old as it is, but certainly not perfect.

Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (7)
the hitting interface is the best i have ever experienced.you actually have to "go with the pitch" if you want a hit...the ball is coming in low?directional button down, and swing with "x" button...high heat?directional button up and swing with "x". fielders are awesome....diving snares in the infield...sliding catches in the outfield....great stuff.plus, you can edit any existing player:give him a different name, change his strengths and weak spots, etc. the ONLY thing i would complain about is the fact that the pitchers run out of gas pretty quickly....i have yet to get past the sixth inning with my starters.other than that, this game is simply fantastic.i used to be Triple Play diehard fan....but Triple Play got old so fast....the big home runs every other batter...boring hitting patterns...High Heat does not cater to the ARCADE baseball videogame fans...it caters to the fans who like their baseball-sims REAL.hopefully i can bring Chicago a World Series with the Cubbies!!High Heat is slammin'!!
And, WOW, are the graphics in this one POOR!Egads.I played an exhibition game at the new PNC Park, and the Pittsburgh skyline was comprised of the largest, blockiest polygons I have seen since the days of Earl Weaver Baseball for PC on an ancient EGA monitor. But, if you could put up with last year's mess of a graphics display, then you should be able to stomach this year's model. Though the back of the box is hilarious. It touts "slamming new tunes" which are nothing more than short snippets of stadium music whenever a decent player comes up to bat, and a "completely overhauled graphics engine" which is ludicrous, as anyone who played Sosa's High Heat 2001 can easily see that the graphics remain 90% unchanged. We're talking pixels as big as donuts here. There are some minor improvements: there is more animation now so the players seem slightly less wooden, a slightly improved play-by-play job, and some slightly improved in-game snippets of music and sound. Also, the menus are streamlined and easier to follow. And for the purists: YES you can pull a double switch, but NO you cannot warm up pitchers. Personally, buying anything that says "Triple Play" on it is NOT an option.I, as a longtime baseball fan, simply cannot stomach a game where I can homer twice in the same game with the starting pitcher. Is HH2K2 pretty?Absolutely not.But will those of us that choose substance over style care all that much? Not really. If you want PSX baseball this season, and you consider yourself a "real" fan, this is your only choice. And you can't beat the price. ...
