Editorial Review Add eight new tricks (such as hand plants in the half pipe) and acomplete build-a-rider mode (which allows you to create your own snowysuperstar), and you've pretty much summed up the major differencesbetween Cool Boarders 3 and Cool Boarders 4. One of thecoolest new effects in the game is that riders now sink into deeppowder instead of skating right over it. A signature of the series isthe ability to throw punches at other riders during races, but playerscan choose to turn that feature off for a cleaner challenge. Players who were gaga over Cool Boarders 3 will be pleased withthe enhancements in this game. But with gameplay that is essentiallythe same as its predecessor, gamers looking for a unique thrill maywish to carve a turn and look elsewhere. --Jeff Young Pros: Cons: Reviews (14)
There are a few pros. The 16 different boarders give you a diverse selection of strengths and weaknesses. I also like the ability to customize your boarder, which can give you the upper hand in a competition. But this doesn't amount to a whole lot. The game is still too slow. When it comes to the tricks, I was just tapping different keys randomly, trusting my luck. It gave up after a while. I have heard that Cool Boarders 3 was quite good, so maybe I will give that a try. But as for this one, I would pass on it altogether.
I gave this game a 4 star but get it and you won't regret getting it. It's a game the family can play. ... Read more | |

Editorial Review In the career mode, you must conquer each of 40 challengers to become the world boxingchampion. With each progressive fight, you will build up your strength, speed, andendurance. However, even the best boxers will invariably suffer from a few bangs andbruises. As you slug your way to the top of the career mode, you will unlock severalsecret challengers for the exhibition mode. Gameplay in Contender can be experienced through numerous camera angles, including a dizzying first-person mode. Be sure to turn up the volume, since you willreceive assistance from your trainer, who screams out helpful tips in the backgroundduring your bout. Further help is given through informative statistics that are spewed outat the end of each round. There are also cool replay options, so you can review eachpunch. --Michael Byer Pros: Reviews (5)

storyline: preety weird for a x-treme sport game, but still has a point. graphics: not too bad for playstation, tricks are well defined while they are being preformed. (characters later in the game are really cool.) sound: good mix of "generic punk," This is one game that you will just want to listen to the music all the way through. It doesn't match the music from tony hawk, but its still cool. stuff that could be better: well....there could be more regular levels, but the bonus levels kinda make up for that. It would also be a better game if you could upgrade your scooter gear with points or something. All in all...this game gets an 80%Buy this if you're into x-treme sport video games!

There are seemingly 2 camps in console golf games: the "fun" camp (Hot Shots Golf, Mario Golf) that emphasizes a certain playability over any serious sim aspects, and the "realism" camp (EA's Tiger Woods, Fox Sports) which attempts to display the game as it is actually played.I enjoy both styles, but the cartoonish qualities of the former can wear thin whereas the latter is always a good choice to fall back on time and again.Your choice may vary, but realize that this definitely falls into the "realism" camp and this may turn out to be slightly "dry" for the youngsters amongst you, or those that prefer a lot of theatrics in their golf gaming. Why is this installment the preferred edition?Well, for starters it is easily the most gorgeous looking of the three, putting 99 to utter shame graphically, and even upping the ante on the fairly adequate graphics of 2000.The sounds are kept to a quiet minimum (except, for some reason, in the long term PGA Tour mode) which helps set the proper tone. The putting meter has thankfully returned to what most fans of EA Sports' PGA series know & love: the straight line meter. No more circular guesswork, this is just like old times (PGA Tour III on Genesis being my favorite of the 16-bit era.)Also improved from previous versions is the putting. The draw/fade feature that made putting such a foul nightmare in earlier editions now returns to the standard distance shot, thought the quirky "quake-cam" effect is still used to determine putting green hills/valleys.But without the hook/slice factor, this becomes much easier to digest. And I will mention that the ridiculous "Tiger Power" ability (allowing you to alter the direction of the shot mid-flight, as if by telepathy) is thankfully turned off by default. The game, on the whole, as a result of these intelligent game mechanics changes has seemingly become easier and more user-friendly.Though still a proper challenge will certainly await you. This time around there are 6 courses (up 1 from 2000's 5) along with 8 tour pros (up 3 from 2000's 5.)The animation and sayings are much the same as the previous version, but there was never much wrong with that aspect, so it is forgiveable. There do seem to be a few less options this time around (they seem to have canned the shootout mode and 4-ball competitions) but they are not missed amidst the lush graphics and control enhancements that make this one a joy to play.It is certainly the pinnacle of "realistic" golf games, and is likely to remain so, as EA will be releasing Tiger Woods 2002 on PS2 only. Prior to purchasing this title, I had read many poor reviews of this game which had me worried.Yet after spending many hours out on the PS1 links with this title, I am truly dumbfounded as to what is so truly evil about it.Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 outdoes not only its previous incarnations, but also outshines all but the best of the "fun" category. The only game I would recommend over this would be Hot Shots Golf 2. A very fun, very accessible, very pretty golf game that deserves to be played & appreciated.Console gaming old-timers from the Genesis PGA era will be right at home.
You can't even play a tournament of more than one round. The "challenge" is even more ridiculous. The first event is super easy if you have any experience in the game. Then you play against other players in a skins game.No matter how you play, the AI will find some way to make a ridiculous putt or hole one from 200 yards to make sure you can't win anything.I actually shot a 64 on the course and did not win a skin. This means that you cannot advance until you win the skins game.It is frustrating as h.... Anyway, if you want a Tiger Woods game, just buy the first one and play that. That game actually has the "tiger power" option. This game is a complete waste of money.EA dissapoints on this game, unlike them with their other great sports games. ... Amazon.com Review The third incarnation in the series, this game straddles the fence between arealistic simulation and a fast-paced action game. College football fans willhave a blast as it allows them to play as any one of the 140 1-A or 1-AA collegeteams (with as many stadiums) on its way to reaching the coveted Orange Bowl,Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, or one of 17 others. New this year is Advanced Player Control, or APC, giving players even morecontrol (and subtleties) to the action. This includes controlling any one player(you choose who you'd like to control before the ball is snapped), finding openfield and calling for the ball, and so forth. This gives the player more controlon the field, but doesn't take away from the fun factor. The game offers up a Practice, Exhibition, and Season modes, and the Dynastymode has been beefed up to allow gamers to review and recruit players at thejunior college and even high school level to enhance their rosters. TheSituation mode is a collection of scenarios for you to battle through, such ascoming back to win a game after a bad quarter or a lousy half. There's also anew mode, dubbed the Bowl Game Playoff mode, which is essentially a do-or-die,go-for-broke game for those who would rather work their way up the ladder, elimination style, toward the National Championship. Though these additions may sound like a lot has been added to the game thisyear, after a few hundred snaps and a dozen or so games, it really feels likepast NCAA games with a little more flair. If you enjoyed the previous versionsin the series, then no doubt you'll like this one too. It's college pigskin doneright, and there's nothing wrong with that! --Todd Mowatt Pros: Reviews (30)

Now, don't get me wrong by thinking that the game has it all, 'cause it doesn't. But, it is pretty fun. Although the graphics are bad, some of the sports on it aren't the best sports, and it's not the funnest game. I know you'll love it anyway! I think, by star ratings people give it, you won't wanna buy it, but listen to this review!

Vince McMahon and Jerry "the king" Lawler call the matches, and sometimes they are really funny.Sometimes the game messes up and they repeat the same line two or three times in a row. They gave Vince more things to say than Jerry, but you will hear both of them plenty of times while a match is going on. The loading time isn't that bad.You have to deal with a lot of loading times, but they aren't very long. They are much shorter than the loading times in future WWF Playstation games. But damn is it ever fun fighting your opponents in this game. You can deliver combos (which are fun and easy to pull off) and a ton of cool moves. The thing that makes this game so special is that the game company made all the regular moves in this game look EXTREMELY devastating.A simple piledriver looks like the guys head is gonna fly off!An uppercut can send someone WAY up high! The game moves so fast and has so many cool moves to keep you interested I can't help but love the heck out of this game.A must buy!
