Amazon.com Review

Players who thought that NBA 2K was good are in for an evenbetter game of hoops this time around with NBA 2K1. Almost every area ofthe franchise has improved, and now players can hop online and challenge someonein Sioux City, Iowa--or anywhere else--if they please.

Player faces are much more recognizable, and the resolution and detail of thecourt is higher than it was before. The coaches, too, are more animated--raisingtheir hands in the air as a three-pointer goes up and in--and the crowd is morethree-dimensional and lively.

During the game, players will encounter better defense against lay-ups; also, they'll have to break down defenses with quick passing, and post up and backtheir way to the basket. On defense, the computer always looks for easy buckets, which forces players to double-team opponents and keep scorers to theoutside.

Franchise mode is the icing on the cake, as players can draft a team, and signtheir own players and free agents by making offers and orchestrating trades. Afew more special offensive moves would have been nice; but, as is, this is amust-have title for fanatic and casual b-ball fans alike. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Excellent graphics and improved artificial intelligence
  • Players can go online and play opponents across the country
Cons:
  • Could have used more offensive special moves

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good but it has bad graphics.
This is a good video game, but the problem is the graphics, man it's bad, and the superstar teams the San Rafael Sega Sports Team and the San Rafael Seganet are good but really racist, because they hardly have black guys on their teams, but I do like the San Rafael Mocap. My favorite players are Sadiki Fuller and Roy Byrd, and the name of their colleges are really funny: Dunk University Very Much, and University Read My Ankle, but is their such college as Light It Up University, and Redman is featured from Def Jam University, and Larry Peacock from Hard Knox College, and Charles Outlaw and Brian Grant. But when the players were made with giant heads, that was freaky, and I didn't like that over camera, but my favorite camera is swivel. I give it a ***** (5 out of 5).

1-0 out of 5 stars NBA 2k1.... just gets boring
It is too boring and the dunks are stupid because it make lil people be able to dunk. Jus plain horrible

This game Is asome the graphics are great all the players look like themselves (unlike NBALive) you could do street ball, playoffs, Season, franchise, and more the players do awsome dunks and for only [$$$] Go And get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars NBA 2K1 is sweet!
Okay, my other review hardly told you anything about the game. Next to Sonic Adventure 2, this has the best graphics I've ever seen! The sound effects are awesome, you can hear the shoes squeaking on the floor, the 'harff' when you score a 3 pionter, and the 'Argh!' when you dunk it!It's like your there witnessing a real basketball game (not to mention the Commentary)! If your into games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, make an acception. You'll love this game! ... Editorial Review

Sega has had great success with its previous sports titles for theDreamcast, so everyone was waiting for them to hit one out of the park with therelease of World Series Baseball 2K1. In many ways they have, but thegame suffers from enough bugs and has so few options that true baseball fanswill be crying foul.

Stadiums and players are rendered in glorious high-resolution detail, to thepoint where it's easy to recognize a player by looking at his face. Similarly, most of the animations look terrific--especially diving catches and quickacross-the-body throws. We also enjoyed the pitching and batting interface, which is more complex than that found in most baseball games but becomes a lotof fun after a little practice.

Unfortunately, the game is all downhill from there. Once a ball is hit, playersare forced to sit and watch the computer field it. The lack of control isabsolutely infuriating, especially since Sega hyped this game's realism from thebeginning of its development. The crowd sounds are anemic and there is no colorcommentary, which is just as well considering how terrible the play-by-playannouncer is. If you really love baseball, you'll really hate World SeriesBaseball 2K1. For casual fans who prefer flashy graphics and a funpitching/batting contest to thorough stat tracking and the ability to field theball, this game is a home run. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Gorgeous stadiums
  • Nice TV-like presentation
Cons:
  • No fielding
  • Stuttering animations
  • Lacks fun extras

5-0 out of 5 stars It was great if the maker think about the game deeply.
Recently, I am a very deep fan of MLB though I am Japanese. It is for that I have many opportunities that I can watch MLB games on Japan TV because Japanese top baseball player went to MLB. Obviousely, MLB playing style is very wonderful. Mainly the batting is power vs power. The batting form and the flying figure of hit homerun ball is splendid. For instance, B.Bond,A Rod and G.Jiamby is so.

When I played this game at first time, that is, for a few weeks, I was very bore for the game. As wrriten in this game review, when we set in our defense play, the movement almost rely on the computer, and we can not reflect our thinking. After that for a few months, I put the game to my book shelf. As I got to be a hot MLB fan day by day, I remembered about the game of the shelf, and played that again.

Unexpectedly, I enjoyed the game more than the first time. That will be because I got many knowledge about MLB. I knew that there were some players who had many unique batting forms. In the same time, in the game I knew what is expressed many unique batting forms too, for instance G.shephield sharp batting form, N.Garusiapara's nervouse glove touch is so. I think that the maker put the deep consciousness to the detailed graphics of players. Off course for the native american fans as you, such things may be natural, but for foreigner fans that is sufficient thing.

Though the defensive is a little bore certainly, the batting play is fun. We can reflect our thinking for the play to some extent, therefore the more we improve our batting technique, as the batting player will react to our wish. I hit 25 homeruns a game by using all star custom setting.

Thank you for reading my poor English.

1-0 out of 5 stars What was Sega thinking?
I wish that I used to review games as a job because the only way I can play World Series Baseball 2K1 is if I were paid to do it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars What the?
This game to start out, looks great!Aside from looking great it may possibly rival early Nintendo versions for the worst MLB game ever made.First, you are introduced to the pitchers. They give you a small detail about the pitcher but no season statistics, so you do not know what you are up against.Secondly, to bat, you release the right trigger to swing. You are forced to use the analog thumb pad also.

At the end of the game, it tells you the winner, the loser, if there was a save & the homeruns.NO BOXSCORE!!!???I don't know about the majority but I like to base my players starting status on two things.1. Reality (the correct rosters) 2. Game to game statistics. If a player is slacking you have no way of knowing. You can't check in the middle of the game to see what the player is batting on the game. And if you want to change pitchers, you must also call it blind, as they provide no information as to what your players' ERAs might be.Usually games will tell you when a player steps up to bat, how they have faired in that particular game, along with season stats. Here they only provide season stats.I would like a 1-1 today, 2 for 3, etc.

This game is not fun.I gave it 2 stars because it looks good.Don't bother buying this game.It will only frustrate you, unless you care nothing for real game play.

2-0 out of 5 stars not their best
I've been touting the Dream Cast's sports game for some time now. Generally they are some of the best--NFL 2K, NBA 2K, Virua Tennis... I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise that sooner or later I'd find one that isn't that great. And I'm not surprised it is the baseball game. Unlike football and basketball, there really is no movement in a baseball game, which I think is partially responsible for how much I dislike this game. Just being baseball itself. Add that to a difficulty in pitching and batting, and the problems with fielding a ball and you've got a game that isn't real great (I remember a nintendo baseball game that was more fun, even if the graphics weren't that great). I will say that the stadiums and graphics are beautiful, but it takes more than a pretty picture to make a fun game. And this game isn't much fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Sega's Best Work
Pros: Graphics- The best thing on this game is the graphics. All the players look EXACTLY like the real players.Player piching and batting moves are wonderfully done. The stadium shots were also incredible.
Cons: The commitator for this game gets REALY montonious. He says the same thing over and over again. Also, the fielding on the game was horrible. All of it was automatic. It frustrating to see players not catch balls that are hit right at them.

Over all the game was okay. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Coaster Works - Really feels like a simulator!
Coaster Works - simply two addicting words. This game is one of the first I've ever played ( I'm a coaster enthusiast ) where you really feel like you are on the coaster. The graphics are great, too!You have no limits ( except for height, but it can still be, like, 300 feet high! )You can go vertical, do any possible inversion, and the thrill is just amazing.
(...)It is SO worth it.I'm telling you, it's one of the best games I've played in my life. It's easy to play, you don't need any extra software, it's educational, and at times, it's challenging.Awesome!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Educational
If you are an avid gamer and are looking for VERY DETAILED graphics and a HUGE plot don't look at this game, look at Shenmue. This is very educational because it shows the gravity and actual physics needed to create a roller coaster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great game for the Dreamcast
Who can say the Dreamcast is really dead when quality game after quality game comes out? Sports Jam is no exception. A port of the arcade game, Sports Jam is a button mashing fest of 12 events from various sports. Some of the events include a 3 point basketball shootout, a home-run derby, a soccer corner kick and penalty shootout game, a putting golf game, a football field kicking game and a football running game. Most of these events require you to mash the buttons as fast as you can just like their cousins, Decathelete and Winter Heat on the Sega Saturn. The graphics are excellent and the sound is great with an announcer and all. The most fun with Sports Jam is with 2 players; you'll end up playing this for hours with friends. The only problem is that the game will get repetitive after a while but for the amount of fun Sports Jam is, it's well worth buying it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Really FUN game
This game was even better than I expected it to be. It's easy to get a grasp of the controls but pretty challenging. You have a choice of some awesome O'Niell sponsored surfers, each with their own highlights movie you can watch. The beaches are solid and the weather controls really give you a chance to differ your environment. Good graphics are accompanied by a huge variety of camera angles so you can control the surfer from afar or see through the surfer's eyes for a more intense approach to a wave. You'll like this game if you like sports challenge games. Also, you can play with up to 3 other people so can rip on your buddies.

Sega's Virtua Striker was supposed to be the Dreamcast'sfirst great soccer game, but as it turns out, Striker Pro 2000outplays the opposition with lively on-field action and a wealth ofoptions to boot.

Striker Pro will wow soccer fans with 130 teams from the bestEuropean leagues as well as from all over the world. There are threelevels of competition from national to international cup play, whichcan be unlocked once players prove in their worth in training mode.

Striker Pro scores early with its options, letting playersadjust weather conditions, injury time, and penalty settings as well astoggle between the analog and digital control pads. Speed anddifficulty can also be bumped up to taste. On the field, teams play up,back, or somewhere in the middle, with the score often determining ateam's formation. Animations and graphics are Dreamcast quality, andthe control is intuitive. In fact, we'll go so far as to say thatStriker Pro 2000 is the most perfect soccer video game thatwe've played thus far. --Robb Guido

  • 130 teams and three different cup modes
  • Flawless control and a helpful training mode

1-0 out of 5 stars Why torture yourself
Someone below wrote that it dosen't get better...but it does UEFA Dream Soccer is WAY better and is a Dreamcast soccer game worth a purchase

5-0 out of 5 stars It can't get better than this.
Striker Pro 2000 is the best soccer game other than Fifa 2002 on Gamecube. Too bad the players aren't real players, though. But you get a whole bunch of international and European club teams. Practiceand training is pretty boring. Passing, kicking, slides, chest traps, and even bicycle kicks are all realistic. You can play in the snow or rain, day or night. Being a goalie is fun once you save and catch the ball. But be careful not to score for yur opponents. The gameplay is very realistic and so is everything else. So, buy it and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great soccer game for the Dreamcast
Ever since my purchase of the Sega Dreamcast I was hoping that Sega Sports would make World Cup Soccer 2K2 or something like that in there great sports series, but they did not make one and I was very disappointed. But then I came across Striker Pro 2000. The game sounded great, had amazing graphics and cost only 15 dollars!

Once I got the game I was amazed by the realistic gameplay, graphics and the little things that make soccer so much fun. When you first get this game there are about 25 or so European teams you can choose from including Manchester, Muchen, Monaco and many others. There are also 72 international teams including Brazil, USA, Germany, France, and Argentina that you have to ulock by completing all of five of the challenging practice stages. You can also create up to eight teams and create players to up-date the teams.

There are a few things that are flawed in this game. The announcers are good but their intro to the game is always the same and they aren't very interesting. Also the goalies are very dumb and you can easily score 3 or 4 goals each game.

Overall this is by far the best soccer game on the Dreamcast. I highly recommend this game for soccer fans around the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this game!!!!!!
What really, really surprises me is that this game is from the same company as one of the worst video games ever made, Sydney Olympics 2000 (Infogrames.) If you wanna read my review for that game too, go right ahead. Anyway, there er 130 club teams and the most realistic soccer game I ever played. Although I payed ...for it used, it was worth it. There are also a total of 72 international teams including my own Armenia, Brazil, U.S.A., France, Canada, and Argentina. The moves are so realistic. I've gotten so used to this game that I can score as much as 30 goals a game and keep them from getting 10 shots on me! To unlock international teams, you have to pass the fun but hard 5 categories of practice. But for those of you who own this game and don't know this code, you could get all the international teams and extra tournaments by doing this: Open the game. On the main menu, go to options. On the options menu, don't go into anything. Just press the up arrow twice, the right arrow twice, and the Y button three times and the Infogrames mark will inflate twice meaning you got all the teams. Pretty cool, huh? This game has never gotten me bored and I have had it for more than a year. This game rocks!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great game

This game should be banned, because its like you are just wasting your money. the game play is horrible, i hate the controls. madden 2001 is the best!just about everything about nfl quarterback club sucks, if you like this game than i suggest you check with your doctor

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Game EVER
This is beyond any shadow of a doubt the worst game that has ever been made.I would rather play Pong than this game. The controls are totally inaccurate, and the game is beyond slow.If you want to play a good football game, look elsewhere because this disk is best used as a frisbee.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy
This game is terrible! It is almost impossible to play defense on this game. Very difficult to tackle and impossible to cover the wide outs. If your going to buy a game buy NFL2K.

Amazon.com Review

The official video game of the 2000 Olympics, Sydney 2000 borrowsheavily from the gameplay of the 1983 arcade classic Track and Field.Players "power" their virtual athletes by hammering on two buttons in analternating sequence as fast as possible, with the manipulation of a thirdbutton required at certain times to perform a particular action. Unfortunately, the novelty here wears off pretty darn quick, especially when using theDreamcast's standard controller, which is just barely adequate for such frenziedbutton mashing; you really need an arcade stick for this one.

While not all of Sydney 2000's 12 events use this tedious control system, the few that don't feature similarly shallow-as-a-puddle gameplay. What's worse,in order to make it to the Games in Olympic mode, players must "train" theirteam in a series of tiresome Virtual Gym exercises, which involve--you guessedit--lots and lots of button mashing. Thankfully, Sydney 2000's Arcade andCoaching modes allow players to jump right into any event. You won't get toexperience the game's Olympic fanfare, but you'll probably save yourself from arepetitive-stress injury. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Makes for an easy-to-pick-up multiplayer game
  • TV-style coverage includes replays shown from multiple camera angles
Cons:
  • Shallow gameplay involves little more than mindless button mashing
  • Arcade stick more of a requirement than an option
  • Not much fun as a single-player gaming experience

2-0 out of 5 stars Sydney 2000
OK if you like pushing buttons rapidly

1-0 out of 5 stars Simply horrible.
Not many video games are there that make my stomach ache over buying. But this one crossed that thin dividing line. The playability is so unbelievably disgusting that I can't even explain it. If your looking for some anthritis or want a couple of numb fingers, then go ahead and waste your hard earned money on this graphical disaster. But if you would rather get your money's worth, I would reccommend, almost anything!

1-0 out of 5 stars What do you think my Dreamcast controller is, a drum??!!
This game really [is not good] due to the fact that in every single solitary event you have to repeatedly press A and X. I'm not gonna break my fingers and my controller over that. The only game that's a little fun in it is kayaking, in which I was able to win. But everything else, including kayaking, was frustraing me and my hand. I couldn't even know what was going on with the cycling. The fitness excersices also [were not good] because they really didn't help you. I returned this game to the store the very next hour. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Get it now while it's ...!!!!
I don't care what the reviews say, if this game is ... then who wouldn't want to get it? Sega Bassb Fishing is getting a bad rap as well in reviews but now that it is ... as well, who wouldn't get it? I am!! are you???

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while.......
Some say this game is horrible and a waste of money. If you ask me this is a fun game to play with a friend or by yourself. The one downfall of this game is you arm gets a workout and starts to hurt after playing for a while. But everything else in the game makes it all worth it, like building up you person in each event to try and win the gold metal.I use to rent the Playstation version, that's how I first heard of this game. Then when the Dreamcast version came out I bought it as soon as I saw it.The graphics, game play, sound and basically everything else is so much better on Dreamcast. This game is fun for the first week or two when you get it, but as most games you will get bored of it.But for 20 bucks its well worth it for those two weeks. ... Sega's new NFL 2K is the type of game that makes a very, very good first impression. For starters, this is without a doubt the best-looking sport video game ever produced on any platform--hands down. Not only are the players more detailed and lifelike than in any other game we've seen, but they move fluidly and with such an impressive array of animations that it's sometimes hard to forget you're playing a game and not just watching one on TV. You can even see the breath of each player during cold-weather games--we're talking graphical realism here, make no mistake. But NFL 2K goes way beyond skin-deep. This is an excellent football game, with gameplay that's easy to pick up at novice level but hard to master as you increase the level of difficulty. The game's controls are the most intuitive of any we've seen, and the playcalling interface is simply the best that anyone has ever come up with for a football title. And just when you think it can't get any better, you discover features like the full-league fantasy draft, a tutorial mode, extensive game and season statistics, and excellent play and player creation options. Put simply, this game makes every other football game on every other platform look dated. Even the play-by-play and color commentary are better and more fluid than any we've seen elsewhere. If you have even a passing interest in football and are planning to pick up a Sega Dreamcast console, you owe it to yourself to get this game as well. It is the new standard by which all future football--and sports--games will be judged.--Michael Ryan ... Read more

Don't pay a penny for this, folks. Move on to an EA game. There is very little in the way of actual physics calculations between players in this game, every interaction is merely a scripted animation. RBs are stopped in full stride by shoestring tackles. WRs run their routes at half speed while the DBs shadow them *IN FRONT* of their routes. Offensive line programming is horrible. Guards and tackles blow assignments on EVERY play, doubling up on a DT and allowing LBs to come free and tackle the RB at the handoff. There is no player momentum, a flaw I've noticed in a number of Sega Sports games, meaning any player can stop in mid-stride and immediately run full stride in the opposite direction. Sit back and watch the computer play: 3and out, 3 and out, 3 and out... This was an incomplete game that should not have been released. So what if it looks pretty? It plays like crap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost great.
The 2K1 version of this game is much better, if for only one reason:you can actually gain yards rushing.Just try to have a 1,000 yard season with any premier back in this (2K) version.Other than that, great graphics, good game speed, and all the bells and whistles any sports game geek can handle!

5-0 out of 5 stars for the Sega DreamCast
I thought with Playstations Madden 99 I had the only football game I'd need for years. But when my brother got the Game Cube, Playstation 2, and XBox, he gave me his Dreamcast, and a few games along with it, NFL 2K being one of them. Turns out, this is a great game. The graphics are good and game play is as good as anything on Playstation. You can force trades to create your dream team, and while you can't play a franchise, you can save your season. The passing game is a little easy, bu it makes up by making a tougher running game. And lik most of Dream Cast's sports games, it is well done and fun. Would I pick this over Madden 99? probably not, but it is a nice addition, and the two games are fun to own together.

5-0 out of 5 stars NFL 2K: An Instant Classic
Ok, so i guess you want NFL 2K1 or 2K2, right? Why would you be reading this if you wanted 2K1 or 2K2. Oh.. don't have the dough. I see. Well, this game is the start of the best football game intallment ever to grace a console. Trust me, you'll still have the same amount of intensity and sweaty handed fun in NFL 2K as in 2K1 or 2K2. Let me put it this way, short and sweet (I hate writing about a game's details, in fact im going to go play it right after Im done typing this)this game is the only game you will ever need! As soon as you buy this game you will be addicted to it and play it at least on a daily basis. Does that sound good enough? Well, it should. Listen, this game is really inexpensive right now, so if you have a Dremcast, go out and BUY THIS GAME!! Now! Alright, cool, I hafta go play this game now. Later~

4-0 out of 5 stars Very lifelike, but not as much entertainment as expected.
I must say, a very well job done with the graphics of the balls, tables, and maybe even the cue sticks. You can set up the ball to go almost precisely where you want it to in 7 different games. You can easily unlock 5 more and get even more. Billiards is fun, the rocket launcher is fun, and the 24 cents game is fun and the graphics are all incredible, but the rest, we need a little more entertainment. But still, it's the only pool game found on Dreamcast and you probably couldn't make it much funner than this, anyway, so, a good bargain it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maximum Pool is a great pool game for any system!
Maximum Pool is worth the time and money for all ages. It's very easy to learn. I like the comments of Jim, Amy, Linda, and Buddy, although Brad is a bit rude! This game has 7 games. When you beat each of the characters in the highest level, you unlock 5 more games. Then to unlock 5 new shaped tables for the 5 new games, beat them in the highest level again. My favorite game is the unlockable 24 cents. It's very addictive, and if your being crushed by your opponent, you caneasily comeback by sinking dimes and the quarter. The graphics and the realistic play are unbelievable. You can either use guidelines or not. What cracks me up is when the woman screams sometimes when the ball flies
off the table. I really don't know why I didn't give this 5 stars. Maybe it's just not perfect, but extremely fun indeed!

2-0 out of 5 stars 10 minutes of fun
I have recently bought this game, and i was really thinking it was going to be fun. I like pool, when I personally play, but the game plays the game for you. It is not a challange, and after 10 minutes you will put it away and move on. My suggestion is to save your money and by something that you know you will enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very fun game
Maximum Pool is a very good game that will probably be overlooked this christmas season. It offers a bunch of classic and new pool games. Best of all, you can play them all online against other Dreamcast players or PC players. The classic games are, Carom Billiards, Snooker, 8 ball, 9 ball, Rotation, Cutthroat and Basic Pocket Billiards. The new games are, Rocket Ball, Chameleon Ball, Mad Bomber, Poker and 24 cents. The new games can also be played on some differently shaped tables you unlock by beating the computer players. The computer AI is good, but not impossible to beat. Try it out, you might be surprised.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME
This game is great.... It offers ONLINE GAME PLAY which is also a plus.A must have for the dreamcast! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME DESERVES ZERO STARS!!!!
Without a doubt, this has to be the worst skateboarding game ever.I'm ashamed to admit that I own the thing. The graphics, physics, controls, and overall gameplay are HORRIBLE.

Andy McDonald should have stuck with his skating partner and appeared in Tony Hawk instead. How embarrassing!

Run from it!Run!

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit underrated....
If other skateboarding games weren't around, everyone may be liking this game more.THPS set the bar pretty high though, and most gamers seem immediately compelled to draw comparisons (myself included).I think it is best to look at this game on its own for what it's worth. It has some good points, and some nice tricks.I have also gotten some huge air.
Games like this one are pretty cheap these days so you could probably pick it up if you are a skateboarding fan. So why limit yourself to one franchise?Variety is good!

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheap solid game
this game is ok.Its got a good soundtrack but very difficuly controls if you area a tony hawk fan like i am.The graphics are pretty outdated but it doesnt look bad, the camera angles are really good and well the gameplay is ok. All in all this game is a good cheap game. For how much i payed for it i am satisfied.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad bad game
i have 3 words for thes game bad bad bad

2-0 out of 5 stars Lameboarding
this game [stinks]. I love skateboarding games too, but this one [stinks]. Configuration of the controls is almost impossible. The graphics aren't that good either. If you want a good skateboarding game, go with Tony Hawk 1, 2, 2x, or 3. Those are much better and more challenging. .... the 2 stars i gave it are for the soundtrack only. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, Give Sega Credit
After playing Virtua Athlete 2000 I was overall impressed with the game. The graphics for the game were top-notch graphics. The stadium-like feel with the commentrey and affulent body movements complemented the great graphics for a realistic, nice apperance.Gameplay, yet, is not as nice as the graphics. It is rather limited with only 7 events.Events are also a little tough to do well in. The create a player mode and online rankings are a plus.Even though the game isn't first-class work, it deserves a spin.I give the Sega Company credit for trying to create a good track &field where most are just pieces of junk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Virtua Athlete is Virtua Perfect for the Genre
The setup and presentation is very well done.Broadcast quality and excellant overhead shots of the grounds give you a real feel for the games. You can pick up and play immediately with the quick tutorial before each event, and most events are very simple (think Track and Field for the Nintendo). If only I had a pad that could work with this game like the Nintendo... The only problem is the limited number of events.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok. not bad-unless a fanatic don't buy
Virtua Athlete is a fun game, but if I had a choice to buy it again, I would have said no.Graphics are pretty good, but not fantastic.I would only buy this if I were a real fanatic about track, which I'm not.If you really like this sport, a good buy, otherwise, don't. 4-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST HOCKEY GAMES EVER!!!
THe ONLY bad point of this game is that ther isnt enough fighting!
fights arent easy enough to start on this one like some other games.
The graphics are great anf the teams are realistic and play as good as they are(or were at the time)
I got alot of mileage out of my copy!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for its time...but not great
Good overall hockey sim...the graphics and animation are a step above most predecessors.

A few annoynances:The goaltending is too good. This isn't a complaint about lack of scoring, but if the game is supposed to be realistic: 1) The players shouldn't be able to get so many 2-on-1 and breakaway opportunities, 2) When the players do get breakaways they rarely score (1 out of 25) and on one timers the goaltenders make more saves than in real-life.

Also, when a goalie makes a save it seems like there are never any rebounds..even when the shot is to the blocker side.P>It's interesting because the old games like NHL '94 where it seemsed like you could score at will are about as realistic as the newer, vamped up goalies. Some of the newer games (NHL 2002) have made some strides in terms of reality where a player in front of the net can knock home a rebound from time-to-time.

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid tranformation to a better console.
We all know that Sega had some excelent hockey games on the Genesis. This is a good follow-up, as it is fast, and looks really good. I like the game, and the gameplay is original simulation stuff. It is a great game, but by no means up to the high standards that 2K2 reached two whole years later.

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL 2k is the Bomb
This game is so great you can't put it into words. But i'll try. The graphics are one of the best around. Why go out and buy a xbox or PS2 and a hockey game when you can have the same fun with a system and a NHL 2k just as good. It has real life like sounds, amazing checks and more. I can't wait to buy it. I'd rate it a 10 star if i could.

5-0 out of 5 stars great game

1-0 out of 5 stars ESPN DISAPPOINTMENT BASKETBALL.
THIS WILL BE SHORT THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS GAME WAS ESPN ANNOUNCER STEWART SCOTT.THAT ALL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Man, I luv this game, this and QB Club are my favorite.

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING READ THIS REVIEW!
This is a horrible basketball game, the graphics aren't something to be proud of nor something to puke at, but this is just horrible. Almost every aspect of it I hate. The person who said this was FANTASTIC! has obviously never played any other basketball games or knows alot about video games. This is one of the slowest basketball games I have ever played, and he said it was fast! Is that person serious or anyone else who agrees with his review! Shooting in this game is out of control as in, when you are shooting the ball the player isn't facing the basket, then a few second into the air his body turns and releases the ball, it seems as if your having a seizure in the air and snap out of it when your releasing the ball. It is extremely easy to get the ball stolen and the crossovers are weak. You have to be very careful when passing the ball because if the defender is anywhere near it he will steal it. This overall is the worst basketball game I have ever played in my entire life. If you want a good basketball game get NBA2K1 or NBA2K2, they are much much better, and if you are going to buy this game don't expect anything from it, nothing at all!

2-0 out of 5 stars Hate It
This Game Is So Awful. I Have Never Played A Game That Awful It's The Worst Dreamcast Game There Is. I Advise You Don't Get It.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE WORST GAME EVER!!!
The game is so bad that it is kind of embarassing it is a Dreamcast game!! The game is so badly finished it makes u laugh! The game has very little realism and is not fun to play. ... I brought the game originally because it was a lot cheaper that NBA 2K1, i thought because i love basketball sooo much that almost every b-ball game would answer my desire for a basketball game. 5-0 out of 5 stars all the olny thing better then the game are the prices
all three games are awsome
the base ball game is realy hard till you get the hang of batting then it becomes alot more fun.

the basketball game is fun but im not a big basketball fan.

the football game is the best. it as great graphics and is easy to get the hang of also.

if you have a dreamcast buy this. shiping is about 4.40

5-0 out of 5 stars A very great deal, for some very great games.
Ok, Here goes:
I cannot praise this deal enough. You get NBA 2k1, NFL 2k1, and World Series 2k1 all for 5 dollers! NBA, and NFL are great hits, however World Series is horrible. Its not that big a deal that one of them sucks so much being the money your saving (NFL and NBA are worth it alone). The Graphics are great, the gameplay is fun! All I can say further is "Thanks Sega!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Online Memories
NFL2K1 and NBA2K1 were the highlights of sports on the Dreamcast.Stellar gameplay and online capabilities. At [the cheap price], anyone with a dreamcast who doesn't have these already would be insane to pass them up.And even if you do, buy backup copies. This is a steal...

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Games
Its a good deal. Those ladies on the bottem who gave them a weak rating are pretty dumb. They expected a console to come with the sports pack of games?Maybe they should have read the part on top which says (does not include console).

Although these games are kind of old now, i still gave them 5 stars, just to make up for the one stars below. It's not the games fault that you didn't read the text.

4-0 out of 5 stars Three Solid Games

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD
Indeed, this game looks like it was put together by a bunch of first graders.Every function of the game-gameplay, sound, graphics-are laughable.Anyone in their right mind would take this godforsaken joke ofa game back within hours after their purchase. Thus garbage makes some old8-bit NES game look magnificent by comparison; this will make you wonder ifAcclaim Sports is just trying to get some laughs out of it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs
This game has nice graphics and sound. Unfortunately, the gameplay is so horrible, I cannot believe this game was play-tested before its release.

The controls are more complicated than necessary. For example, threeseparate buttons must be pressed to complete a pass, one to fade back, another to select a receiver, and finally another to catch the ball. Youhave very little time to do this even at the easiest level. Even if youkeep backs in to block, you rarely have more than 2 seconds to complete apass. Even bad rushing teams can sack the QB 10 times per game playing 5minute quarters. This is not realistic, which is consistent with the restof the game.

Passing is also blind, since your perspective is from behindthe QB, you rarely see the receivers and have no idea what the coverage is.Your completion success has little to do with these factors, which arecritical in the real game. It's easy to complete passes once you get theknack of pushing the right buttons quickly, but there is little sense ofaccomplishment when your success or throwing has nothing to do withthrowing to the open receiver or exploiting a weakness in the defense.

Infact, the type of defense called seems to have no effect on the outcome ofa given offensive play. You can stack the line against the run, completelyplug the hole, and the computer running back will stay on his feet for 10seconds, then break into the secondary for a long TD. This can happen withmediocre backs and excellent defenses. Conversely, the computer willroutinely complete long passes into triple coverage and score longtouchdown passes against a prevent defense.

Despite the difficult andnon-responsive controls, once you get the hang of passing, you'll throw oneTD pass after another. Interceptions are few and far between. Ridiculouslyhigh scores are common even when playing 5 minute quarters.

I tried toplay a season with my favorite team, and gave up after two games becausethe gameplay was so unrealistic and irritating.

Another annoying featureis if you want to switch players, you can only do so for one play at atime. Playing the Rams, I wanted to use Kurt Warner instead of Terry Green. The game allows you to switch them by formation, so if you haven't decidedon a formation, it won't work if you happen to choose a differentformation. After the play is completed, the game reverts to the defaultplayer setting. Extremely annoying.

I gave it 1 star because that was thelowest rating possible. It deserves 0 stars. Sega's NFL2K is far farbetter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, THE WORST DREAMCAST GAME YET
See Jack Buy-See Jack Play-See Jack cry Ok first i gave it a one because there was nothing lower. This game tried to challenge NFL 2K and didn't even get as good as Super Nes Football. Before this game i never thought afootball game could stink so much. Linemen running as fast as DeionSanders. I rented it and returned it 5 minutes later. FOR THE SAKE OF YOURJOY DON'T BUY THIS GAME OR ACCEPT IT AS A GIFT!

3-0 out of 5 stars QB Club Needs WORK
Graphics are great but trying to catch the football is a big enough challenge to make a grown man cry. NFL 2K IS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THIS GAME. Skip this one and purchase NFL 2K

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst then Genesis football
This game was so undeserving of any rating. It is so bad, special rating systems need to be put in for games that deserve a rating that goes below 0. Control is lackluster and awkward, the frame rate drops way below whatthe Dreamcast can handle, and the gameplay is above par (which is bad). Itlooks like 1st graders created this title. Acclaim did a horrible jobputting this together. It is NOT worth a first look. If you want alicsensed NFL game, heavily consider NFL2K, which is well better than thisgarbage. Definetly neck and neck with Soul Fighter as Worst Dreamcast game. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Showing off the extreme attitude of the arcade smash hit NBA Jam, Midway's NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC brings intense two-on-two arcade-style hoops to the Dreamcast. The emphasis is on fanatical basketball, with gravity-defying dunks and over-the-top animations. The game lets you select from 140 actual superstars representing all 29 NBA teams. Throw in wacky unlockable players such as team mascots and characters from other Midway games, and NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC is a fun departure from the more down-to-earth basketball simulations.

Complementing the goofy gameplay is a feature-rich player editor, where you can customize everything from your created player's height, weight, and ability to clothing and facial features. With a TV-style presentation and impressive visuals, this is one hoops game that any arcade sports fan will enjoy. Simply put, if you liked NBA Jam, you'll love NBA Showtime. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • Remarkable in-game graphics, and even more impressive replays
  • Detailed sideline commentary
  • 4-player simultaneous action makes it a great party game
  • Endorsed by Shaquille O'Neal--what more could you want?
Cons:
  • 2-on-2 arcade basketball has been around forever
  • Shallow arcade play, without lasting depth or long-term playability

3-0 out of 5 stars NBA JAM on Steroids
If you're going to buy this game, ask yourself a question, Did I like NBA JAM on SNES? If the answer is YES then buy this game. If the answer is NO and you want a more realistic basketball game go for NBA 2K or NBA 2K1. The gameplay is much the same is NBA JAM, 2 buttons each for turbo, shoot/jump & pass/steal. This is a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I also enjoyed NBA JAM back in the day. Creating a player is very worth it, as you tend to feel a connection with your player. As you progress your character gets stronger, faster and so on as you distribute attribute points both from answering trivia questions and from winning games. So, ask yourself that one little question, and base your decision off that.

5-0 out of 5 stars The fast speed b-ball game (great!)
This is about the best basketball game for Nintendo 64 (I think). You can do every thing in it.Creat players, make a hot spot for your player, do insane dunks and insane shots.Make your player look crazy, have him be a team mascot, make him have an afro, make him look like shaq, kobe and much more! You can change your player so that he can be short, tall, fat, skinny, good at 3's bad at 3's good/bad at dunks and so much more.I like this game because it is fast paced not like some other games. This is a fast pace game if your are winning by 10 you most likely won't be winning by far for long. This game is also a 2 on 2 game (which I like), because it is a lot easyer to find who you are.The only bad thing (this is not that bad it is sort of cool) is that if you are the shortest that you can get (5'8") you can pack (block) someone who is 6'9"!

2-0 out of 5 stars Did they even put an effort into this?
I didn't want to be too insultive, so I put a 2. Anyway, only a 2 on 2 match and horrible graphics and the easiest shots to make and the unrealistic dunks and the dumbest heads of the created players? I'm glad I only borrowed this game from my friend because I would never buy it. I suggest you never do, either.

1-0 out of 5 stars [Price].....for this?!?!?!?!?
I bought NBA Showtime with the purchase of my Dreamcast hoping for some real basketball. I was sure disappointed. After playing it twice I put it away for good. The game is stupid. NBA Showtime has the worst gameplay ever. The computer can jump 50 feet in the air to make a block then swish a full-court shot. The graphics are terrible. The players' muscles' are bigger than their heads and they look very unrealistic.

This game blows! It's just like NFL QB Club except for basketball, an NBA 2KX wannabe!

Do not buy this game.Midway sure know's how to [mess] games up!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Game Ever!
After buying my Dreamcast used with alot of games, I just noticed that this is the last game I tried out, and the first game that I put away. The gameplay is the shallowest ever. I didn't play (or look at) thisgame since I tried it for the first time. The graphics are extremely bad. The players look very unrealistic. The colors in this game are very bad and dark. the entire game looks like an N64 game.

That's about all I have to say about this NBA 2K1 WANNABE GAME!!!

I hope that this review was helpful to you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 2K1 is very good, but is it better than Madden's series?
I like this game and have not played Madden much at all.
How to control defensive linemen:
off the snap:
press A and hold with heel of thumb
-press trigger L or R for club
-hold A and a trigger, then lightly tap B for spin
-hold A and a trigger, then tap Y for swim maneuver
-hold A and a trigger, then tap X for rip(I think)

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW...football on the Dreamcast peaked here
NFl 2K1 is the best NFL game around! It has great graphics, lots of replay value and great commentary that is not annoyingly repetative. The backround graphics could have been touched up but the games still ROCKS. If you own a Dreamcast (the best system that never made it) then get this

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 2K2.
This is probably the most complete NFL game there is. Certainly the best one I've ever played. So it's 2002 and the rosters are out of date and the graphics are a little dated. That shouldn't bother you. The passing, running, and catching are all top notch in my opinion. If you get the hang of it on Rookie, bump up the difficulty to Pro. You'll have to be pretty good to do well on Pro. The A.I. doesn't learn your patterns very well, and you can usually win games by running the same plays over and over (I have about 8 plays I run all the time and I won the Super Bowl last season on Pro setting). I can't say how tough it is on All-Pro, but I will find out some day. If you don't mind if your football is a little old, you really should get this one. You can get it for real cheap usually.

5-0 out of 5 stars good game
This is a great game. The graphics are awesome. The A.I. defense is easily juked out and plays weak defense
the plays are realistic and Curtis Martin and Warrick Dunn are the best backs in the game
Minus some defensive errors this is a flawless game

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifelike.
If only I never traded it for Virtua Tennis (see my review for that, too.) All the teams are like real and other than the faces, so are the players. Play is so realistic, and if you don't be careful, you can easily get sacked. Just take off all the penalties (except offside) and your ready to play. If you get lucky, you can beat the Redskins with the Falcons 89-21 like me in the time that they originally give (5 minute qts.). But don't be foolish and trade it. The practice mode is also very fun because you get to have the whole offensive and defensive teams on the field at once. Get with your friends on Monday nights when football season's not around and have yourself a wonderful time with NFL2K1. ... Read more

Editorial Review

TrickStyle is one of the most stylishly pleasing games. And theDreamcast version really pumps out the pixels with fluid animation that effortlesslyfollows the hoverboard riders along the tracks. One of the game's designers recentlyexplained that the concept behind the game was for riders to find the path of leastresistance, taking one graceful path down the track like "a drop of mercury." Greatconcept. But this drop met many a brick wall on its way to uncertain victory. The tracksin TrickStyle are not player-friendly, and neither are the computer-controlledopponents that act more like flawless robots than flesh-and-blood competitors.

Still, this game looks so darn cool, you can't resist playing it. The requisite tricks fromsnowboarding games are here, but this time they actually add important power-ups toyour repertoire, favoring function over, dare we say, style. To save yourself thefrustration of trying to consistently win races, you should enjoy this game by watchingthe screen while other more nimble or less leisure-time-deficient friends play. --JeffYoung

Pros:

  • Jaw-dropping graphics and animation
  • Functional board tricks
  • Contemporary styling
Cons:
  • Difficult racetracks
  • Unrealistically skilled computer opponents
  • Need to place first in order to progress

1-0 out of 5 stars Futuristic Racing it is, Fun its not!
A title such as Trickstyle has great potential but suffers for designers with little vision! When playiing this game you WILL get the feeling that it needs more. You will go away feeling short changed. The graphics are cool but the control is not. this game is basically flat with little replay value, the tracks are TOO SHORT and there is no real element in the game that makes it a worthy purchase.

PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Secret Codes makes it easier
A few people don't like the game because its difficult to beat. But if you go to any of the popular game websites, you can get free codes which alow you to win ever race, select every hover board, and every stage.

The graphics are great and you get to do a lot of outrageous moves.

4-0 out of 5 stars I would love to see a sequel!
This is still one of my fave DC racing games. There's a futuristic design style that... isn't poorly created, like most games, this is very cool, it feels like a future world. Also, as you're riding, when you fall from a high height or low height, this gives a sense of reality, like you are actually living the opening scene from the original 'Rollerball' film or a hoverboard version of 'Bullit's car chase. I hated having to do Tricks, so maybe a sequel could change the name to "____Style". Thankfully, I didn't have to do tricks much at all. There aren't too many tracks, some feel the same, but they all have worthwhile, unique elements. Racing against a friend may not be easy, as they should learn the course beforehand. I didn't feel the computer was cheating me out of a win I deserved, I feel this game has a fairly normal difficulty level -- it suited me right. I wished I could play tracks as difficult as the last one! Online play for a sequel would be great, can you imagine going against a capable human player on Japan #5 or so? During it I felt as though I was actually playing this game, instead of just driving past scenery with other character models. There are some dodgy control issues, but how should a hoverboard control? The control has equally beneficial abilities too. I enjoyed the Challenges a fair amount too, the VMU game is to be ignored... I disliked the obnoxious characters, and didn't find them 'cool', they are one-note stereotypes and pretty much just dress in a GAP/popstar/jock/foreign-superman way, I wanted to see futuristic punk clothes or something! You may not like this game, but I love it. The music could be better, but it could be worse too, it does what it needs to do, it can be somewhat ambient in it's own techno way, it could've been as unique as the game itself. I wish I could save cheat options like no time limit. This would be an ideal Xbox racer, but it's gorgeous on DC. At least rent to see if it's for you.
