1-0 out of 5 stars Spare me the tedium
For some reason, I was excited to buy this game, but from the moment I popped it into the Playstation, I was continually disappointed. All right, it's great when you've got a thirty inch largemouth staring at yourspinnerbait on the floor of the lake, and you know if you just twitch theline, he will strike. That's fun.But by and large the gameplay istedious, the graphics are bland, the game world is dull, and there's verylittle to keep you coming back.Spend an hour with it and you've hadenough.Where's the creativity?Where's the joy of sport?Suffice it tosay, this doesn't even compare to the real thing.Turn off the darnPlaystation this spring and go down to the lake or creek and cast for REALfish.Better yet, take a bandsaw to your Bass Rise CD and make lures outof it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Rather Bland All Around
I rented this game expecting a fun, arcadey boxing game. What I got was one of the poorest excuses of a boxing game I have ever seen. The graphics here are not too shabby at all, but are kind of jaggy. The worst thing about this game has to be the collision detection. Many many times I hit my opponent but the hit did not register. This is extremely frustrating, especially when the match would be decided by those hits. Also, when you hit a button on the controller it seems to take about 2-3 seconds to register on screen, and then your guy punches. With 106 boxers you would expect some replay value right? Wrong. The replay value is there but the gameplay itself is so horrible that you don't want to play it anymore after you beat it the first time. IF you beat it once. There is a sort of career mode, where you are guided by Mike Tyson, but this gets very repetitive, and becomes boring very shortly. There is no create-a-boxer mode, and this really brings the score down, because Knockout Kings showed us that you can have a create-a-boxer mode. I can not think of one good thing about this game. Don't rent, don't buy, don't even look at it if you see it in stores.

1-0 out of 5 stars get HBO Boxing instead
I really didnt like this game, the graphics and gameplay are terrible. Tyson is the only name fighter in here. I have talked to people who like this game but I myself would recommend that you rent it before you buy it, HBO Boxing and Knockout kings are very good alternatives.

3-0 out of 5 stars best boxing since activision
This game has the intensity and action of the first boxing game for activison. The graphics are good, the motions are good, but the game itself can not catch the players interest. It is a average game and I would rent it before buying.

2-0 out of 5 stars Let's get ready to...look for another boxing game
The only real draw to this game is the fact that it's Mike Tyson. The graphics are average, the music barely tolerable, and the multiplayer mode somewhat lacking. The way the characters move was well done, but it's still not enough to warrant a purchase. ... Read more

Editorial Review

What type of football fan are you? The casual kind? Or the one who really gets into it, wearing face paint, leading the tailgate party, outfitted head-to-toe in NFL garb? For all its efforts at "simulation realism," Gameday 2000 is still a tattered mix of arcade style gameplay dressed up with pseudo-simulation options. Although the series has improved every year, it still caters to the casual football fan who couldn't care less about the subtle differences between double slants and low post patterns.

That's not to say Gameday doesn't have its inherent charms. Despite the dreaded on-field "juke" option, the gameplay is fast and entertaining. With the addition of the general manager mode, which allows for multiple seasons and all sorts of player/personnel movement, the game is much deeper than last year's version. However, Gameday 2000 strives to find that Zen-like balance between fun arcade style gameplay and in-depth simulation à la Madden, but comes up just a tad short. --Sajed Ahmed

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Lots of additional reinfinement makes this a great game, maybe the best. The graphics have received quite a bit of boost, and really look great. The gameplay is strong and exciting, just like it has been since NFL Gameday 1996. I love this game, and it really deserves a spot in every gamer's collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars On the whole, a pretty good game.
The graphics are good on this game. Commentary is quite bad, but music when you score a touchdown is good. The A.I. is a bit bad, one time I kept running a run play to the right side about five times straight and the opposition never tried to fix that problem. Although if it didn't the game would be pretty hard. 989 definitely scores with this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is great!!
All I can say is that this is probally one of the better football games for Playstation. If you have it on Pro or Veteran it is a very entertaing game. The graphics are about as good as a football game can be on a PSX, so that is a plus. The only thing is the amount of space it takes to save a season. The current season I'm playing is using two memory cards, that is way too much space.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny story.
I was in the practice mode getting used to the controls and such when i told the offence (I was on D) to use a shovel pass on their 1 Yd. line. Wel i hit the guy he passed it to and couldn't bring him to make friends with the turf so I started to rapidly hit the {X} button and suddenly the person I was controling literally power-bombed the other guy into the gridiron for what would have been a safety in a real game. But, correct me if i'm worng, that's not legal! Go fig. Pretty good game so far. Out. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars In your face NBA action.
This game is the best NBA game yet. I like being able to make the ultimate team witt all your favorite players. It awesome to make make a player who can destroy any competition. The real attributes can be a little off. Like Shaq scoring all his free throws, even though everyone knows that Shaq isn't good enough to make all his free throws. Other then that, this game is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100% PERFECT!!
This game is the greatest B-Ball game ever. Like every other Sports Game I have it contains high scoring. I was Detroit the PC Milwaukee. I won 426-101. Although a lack of competition I still like the scoring.

I was heading to the playoffs with Chicago but then had a 8-game losing streak. My record was 19-12 after the streak but then rose to the occasion and finished 52-20. In that span I went33-8 and took the Bulls to the Finals where they lost to Utah in 5 games (1-4) OVERALL:65-28 so I am pretty good at this game.

I like creating myself (Matt Muzzy) with super attributes and I average 100+ points a game with me. (Highest 149)The rosters are nice and the graphics are great.

All I am saying is that this is a great game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone missed a great fishing game.
The best and most entertaining acrade style fishing game I have ever played.

-Seemingly endless levels

-Fully support and best utlitize all the features of the fishing rod controller made by Agetec for playstation. The casting action actually detect how hard you throw the rod to determain how far you cast. You will also need to jerk the rod to set the hook. This is by far in only fishing game on the PS or PS2 that I played used such features.

-Have 2 players VS and cooperative mode.

-As best graphics as the PS1 technology allowed.

-High replay capiblity

I think every missed this great game cause by the time it was released, everyone started playing PS2 games and forgot about PS1.This game has also become a very hard to find item.
If you have more question about this game (even question about how to beat it), don't hestitate to e-mail me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Alright
It not the greatest game ever but it's got pretty good graphics. I liked it because it took me about 5 months to beat and it i'm usually really good at these kind of games. But after you beat it there's hardly anything else to do you can tour but you don't win anything for it. It wasn't a complete waste of money it was fun in the beginning and then got boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Tiger Woods game in the series
I have played TW99 and TW2000 and will forthrightly and honestly say that this installment (properly 2001, though not included in the title) is the best of the three, as well as being the best "realistic" golf game for the system.

There are seemingly 2 camps in console golf games: the "fun" camp (Hot Shots Golf, Mario Golf) that emphasizes a certain playability over any serious sim aspects, and the "realism" camp (EA's Tiger Woods, Fox Sports) which attempts to display the game as it is actually played.I enjoy both styles, but the cartoonish qualities of the former can wear thin whereas the latter is always a good choice to fall back on time and again.Your choice may vary, but realize that this definitely falls into the "realism" camp and this may turn out to be slightly "dry" for the youngsters amongst you, or those that prefer a lot of theatrics in their golf gaming.

Why is this installment the preferred edition?Well, for starters it is easily the most gorgeous looking of the three, putting 99 to utter shame graphically, and even upping the ante on the fairly adequate graphics of 2000.The sounds are kept to a quiet minimum (except, for some reason, in the long term PGA Tour mode) which helps set the proper tone. The putting meter has thankfully returned to what most fans of EA Sports' PGA series know & love: the straight line meter. No more circular guesswork, this is just like old times (PGA Tour III on Genesis being my favorite of the 16-bit era.)Also improved from previous versions is the putting. The draw/fade feature that made putting such a foul nightmare in earlier editions now returns to the standard distance shot, thought the quirky "quake-cam" effect is still used to determine putting green hills/valleys.But without the hook/slice factor, this becomes much easier to digest. And I will mention that the ridiculous "Tiger Power" ability (allowing you to alter the direction of the shot mid-flight, as if by telepathy) is thankfully turned off by default.

The game, on the whole, as a result of these intelligent game mechanics changes has seemingly become easier and more user-friendly.Though still a proper challenge will certainly await you. This time around there are 6 courses (up 1 from 2000's 5) along with 8 tour pros (up 3 from 2000's 5.)The animation and sayings are much the same as the previous version, but there was never much wrong with that aspect, so it is forgiveable.

There do seem to be a few less options this time around (they seem to have canned the shootout mode and 4-ball competitions) but they are not missed amidst the lush graphics and control enhancements that make this one a joy to play.It is certainly the pinnacle of "realistic" golf games, and is likely to remain so, as EA will be releasing Tiger Woods 2002 on PS2 only.

Prior to purchasing this title, I had read many poor reviews of this game which had me worried.Yet after spending many hours out on the PS1 links with this title, I am truly dumbfounded as to what is so truly evil about it.Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 outdoes not only its previous incarnations, but also outshines all but the best of the "fun" category. The only game I would recommend over this would be Hot Shots Golf 2.

A very fun, very accessible, very pretty golf game that deserves to be played & appreciated.Console gaming old-timers from the Genesis PGA era will be right at home.

1-0 out of 5 stars eeewwwooo! worst golf game ever
Donot buy this game. the outside looks are good but apart from that theplayability of the game su..the AI is ridiculous and laughable. stick to TW 99 if you are a real golf fan. It is a total waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a terrible game for the money!
I own Tiger Woods 99 and asked my wife to buy this for me for Christmas. I wish I never had. The previous review was correct about the AI taking over and making impossible and unbelievable shots that would never happen. Tiger 99 is 100 times better. Anyone looking to buy a Tiger Woods game should not buy this one. Buy Tiger 99 instead. Very unhappy and hope I can return it after Christmas!

1-0 out of 5 stars This game is lame
This game has not improved since it first came out. When it did, I thought it was pretty good, but could use some improvements like more course choices and a tweaking of graphics. As the newer versions came out, I realized that EA Sports was asleep when they thought they were actually improving it.The only thing that has changed on the new version is that the graphics for the players are crisper. As for everything else, it actually got worse.

You can't even play a tournament of more than one round. The "challenge" is even more ridiculous. The first event is super easy if you have any experience in the game. Then you play against other players in a skins game.No matter how you play, the AI will find some way to make a ridiculous putt or hole one from 200 yards to make sure you can't win anything.I actually shot a 64 on the course and did not win a skin. This means that you cannot advance until you win the skins game.It is frustrating as h....

Anyway, if you want a Tiger Woods game, just buy the first one and play that. That game actually has the "tiger power" option. This game is a complete waste of money.EA dissapoints on this game, unlike them with their other great sports games. ... Read more
