I didn't start thinking it was fun until I lowered the SFX volume (unless you like the sound of a chainsaw in your ear) and I started playing from the 1st person view, where the sense of speed really starts coming through. Then it got fun ! A couple of things that could have made this game great instead of just good... More than just 3 other opponents would have made the game exciting. One of the best parts of the game is when you see the other racers disappearing into valleys and going airborne on some hill ahead of you, but since there are a total of 4 players in the races, there isn't enough of this. The other thing that would have been great is to add a track which is really wide, like coming down the side of the mountain with all kinds of trees, and moguls. Then you could really have fun with snowmobiles (weaving in and out of trees, doing hockey stops etc.)I felt like the tracks were a little too narrow and restrictive for what the snowmobiles could really do. Also, I couldn't stop thinking how much fun it would be to be chased on the snowmobile ala James Bond. (Or something like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit) So all in all, this is a good game with solid graphics, I just think the designers could have added some more fun things to do with the snowmobiles instead of just your standard racing on tracks. But it is by no means a bad or failed game and it lives up to its advertising.

This game is very fast paced. The ememies come at you pretty quickly, and their bullets can leave you with very little room to move. However, part of the greatness of this game is getting your ship out of a seemingly hopless situation and still getting loads of points. A really neat part of the game is the ability to gain experience points (more like cubes) and get a more powerful laser as you level up. It's not easy blowing up the enemy, avoiding their bullets, and gathering up the experience cubes from the vanquished all at the same time. Not easy at all. The real beauty of this game is in the upgrade shop. There are tons of things you can buy to add onto the game. And these things are not easy to get. It takes a WHOLE lot of saved up points to afford even the cheapest items. There is so much to unlock that it will take you quite a long time to get them all. This increases the replay value ten fold. The soundtrack is about the only thing that is wanting. While it does capture the frantic atmosphere of the game, it can be a little on the annoying side (in particular if you are not a fan of heavy metal). Even so, it is a small price to pay for such a fantastic game. Closing Argument: If you are in the slightest bit a fan of vertical shooters, and don't mind if the game looks a little like an old DOS era game then this should be high on your list of games to pick up for your Dreamcast collection. It has all the stuff that makes a great shooter, and then adds some more to make it an extraordinary game.
In the beginning, you start with the choice of 2 ships with various attributes. As you earn points and hone your skills, you can use your points to "buy" new game features like more lives and more continues, all of which help facilitate your mission. The feeling of evolution keeps you coming back. The controls are fairly simply. My only complaint is that the vacuum shield feature is a tad late in responding, causing you to get blown up if you don't anticipate getting hit a second early. This is classic shoot-em-up arcade style action and I highly recommend it!
Here's how I'd rate it... GRAPHICS: 90% (hooray for pixels!) SOUND: 70% (sorry, the soundtrack is weak... it doesn't take away from the game though) CONTROL: 90% (I wish the vacuum was a bit easier to control, otherwise the controls are dead on) GAMEPLAY: 99% (shooter bliss! so many extras!) OVERALL: 95%

First, the presentation/interface is inspired by minimalist 2-color graphic design. It doesn't work. There is also no real "championship" or surrounding career modes.Just pick a mag-car and track, then pick another mag-car for that track to start clearing it.Finish the available tracks with available cars and the next "level" appears. That's it. The racing itself is terribly simplistic, with easy to defeat AI, an OPTIONAL magnetic levitation move, and weak (WEAK) weaponry.I never thought a high-speed, high-framerate racing game could put me to sleep, but here it is! Add in atrocious "car" models (made of maybe 3 polygons each?!) and lacking music.I actually played through most of Tier 2 just to see what new "3-polygon" models might come up.It wasn't worth the time.
Although it starts off very slow, after you unlock a few things it really does speed up. There are also lotsof excellent tracks to race on, some of them brilliantly designed. You dohave to stick with the game for a while to unlock these, but they are worththe effort. If you can forgive the fact that it seems hideous at firstwith its poor graphics, fairly average sound and not great to begin withgameplay, you will find some enjoyment from Mag Force. If more time andeffort had been spent on it, it could have been great and perhaps evencomparable to the Wipeout series of games. ... Read more | |

Very simply, this is a fairly impressive-looking PC-based graphics demo in which you simply fly around, auto-targeting and killing enemy ships with minimal skill. That's it.There is a badly read mission background before starting, which uses the in-game graphics to show the ships you'll momentarily defeat. The graphics are in general nice as stated, but even this gloss disappears quickly. For instance, it becomes quickly evident that the background which dominates your view appears to be a 256-color bitmap, with easily discernible banding. This game represents everything that can go wrong with emphasizing graphics over gameplay.

The controls are more complicated than necessary. For example, threeseparate buttons must be pressed to complete a pass, one to fade back, another to select a receiver, and finally another to catch the ball. Youhave very little time to do this even at the easiest level. Even if youkeep backs in to block, you rarely have more than 2 seconds to complete apass. Even bad rushing teams can sack the QB 10 times per game playing 5minute quarters. This is not realistic, which is consistent with the restof the game. Passing is also blind, since your perspective is from behindthe QB, you rarely see the receivers and have no idea what the coverage is.Your completion success has little to do with these factors, which arecritical in the real game. It's easy to complete passes once you get theknack of pushing the right buttons quickly, but there is little sense ofaccomplishment when your success or throwing has nothing to do withthrowing to the open receiver or exploiting a weakness in the defense. Infact, the type of defense called seems to have no effect on the outcome ofa given offensive play. You can stack the line against the run, completelyplug the hole, and the computer running back will stay on his feet for 10seconds, then break into the secondary for a long TD. This can happen withmediocre backs and excellent defenses. Conversely, the computer willroutinely complete long passes into triple coverage and score longtouchdown passes against a prevent defense. Despite the difficult andnon-responsive controls, once you get the hang of passing, you'll throw oneTD pass after another. Interceptions are few and far between. Ridiculouslyhigh scores are common even when playing 5 minute quarters. I tried toplay a season with my favorite team, and gave up after two games becausethe gameplay was so unrealistic and irritating. Another annoying featureis if you want to switch players, you can only do so for one play at atime. Playing the Rams, I wanted to use Kurt Warner instead of Terry Green. The game allows you to switch them by formation, so if you haven't decidedon a formation, it won't work if you happen to choose a differentformation. After the play is completed, the game reverts to the defaultplayer setting. Extremely annoying. I gave it 1 star because that was thelowest rating possible. It deserves 0 stars. Sega's NFL2K is far farbetter.

Amazon.com Our favorite level is Windy Valley, which requires you to survive the stormy perils of a tremendous tornado. This tyrant of nature chases you relentlessly before ultimately sucking you into the air and up through its eye. During the chase, the tornado manages to tear up just about everything on the screen. This dizzying visual spectacle moves so fast that you will literally hold on to the game controller for dear life. Assuming you survive the tornado, there are several more challenging areas to conquer, including a level that requires you to snowboard directly in the path of a fast-approaching avalanche. During the Emerald Coast level, you will race across a precarious dock as a killer whale attacks from below, destroying the wood planks underneath your feet while you attempt to outrun the crazed creature. We also liked the numerous mini-games scattered throughout this title. When you least expect it, Sonic Adventure tosses in some old-fashioned arcade action, such as pinball or bumper car racing. In between, you can raise virtual pets, known in the game as "Chao." These characters, which are saved using the optional Visual Memory Unit (VMU), can be combined with other Chao characters exchanged between friends or downloaded via the Internet. Gamers looking to show off the strong processing power of the 128-bit Dreamcast will definitely want to pick up this title. Simply put, Sonic Adventure's graphics surpass those of any other game currently available on any home video game system. Let the Sonic assault begin. --Brett Atwood Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (266)

Editorial Review Still, this game looks so darn cool, you can't resist playing it. The requisite tricks fromsnowboarding games are here, but this time they actually add important power-ups toyour repertoire, favoring function over, dare we say, style. To save yourself thefrustration of trying to consistently win races, you should enjoy this game by watchingthe screen while other more nimble or less leisure-time-deficient friends play. --JeffYoung Pros: Reviews (30)

Amazon.com Review Graphically, Caesars Palace 2000 takes full advantage of the Dreamcast'scapabilities, with tables so sharp you can feel the felt, excellently animatedshuffles and deals, and authentically marked chips and cards. The odds at this casino were verified by math analyst William Bertram, and areas realistic as in any physical gambling hall. For this reason, if you don'tusually leave Las Vegas overflowing with winnings, don't expect to be winningevery hand at Caesars Palace 2000. On the other hand, this realism makesthe game a perfect practice ground for gambling in the real world. The game'stutorial advice, although offered usually only after a goof, is accurate andprecise--a perfect primer for learning new games. The only major drawback to the game is its speed. As devotees of computersolitaire know, the beauty of card games on a video system is that there's noneed for shuffling or actually dealing the cards. That said, Caesars Palace2000 maintains realism by showing shuffles and deals, but these detract fromgameplay by slowing the time between hands. This slowness is particularlyobvious in the slot machines. --Benjamin Reese Pros: Reviews (5)
The manual does list some basic rules for the numerous games, and offers a help-as-you-play kind of assistance, but Caesar's Palace 2000 will not teach you casino gaming. Not by itself. To appreciate Caesar's Palace 2000, you will have to have been familiar with the casino environment as well as the particular game you are playing, or you seriously want to become familar with them. And by casino environment, I mean *playing* environment. No scantily clad cocktail servers, neon signs or flashing lights are to be had, but the tables and machines are dead on. As real as any I've ever seen, outside of an actual casino. Caesar's Palace 2000 is a serious casino simulation, for those interested in serious casino gaming. The value in this title for the single player is a realistic training environment for casino gaming. But you will need other instructional aid, such as some of the the numerous gambling tutorial books and videos widely available. If you're armed with some of these, Caesar's Palace 2000 will prove to be an excellent teacher for two reasons. One is, the mathematics, or 'odds', for the various games are verified as accurate by William Bertram, Ph.D. And reason number two is, the game puts forth a very realistic 'feel' to the casino gaming simulation. But you can only appreciate it if you've actually sat at a roulette, craps, blackjack table, or played another casino game. If you have not, you will miss the subtlety of the 3D rendered tables and gaming areas, and the associated background noise and voices. Everything in this game is designed to maintain the players' focus on actual casino gaming of the serious variety (and when money is at stake, what other varieties are there?) This game will also have very high value as a party game, because it supports up to four players. Of course, the four players will need to be familiar with actual casino gaming for most of the games included. It should be noted that there is a very strict warning during the game's intro that this product is not to be used for gambling in any way, and that it is highly illegal to do so. But I also have to state that with the accurate math and the authentic tables and machines included, it certainly could be used for gambling. In fairness, though, Caesar's Palace 2000 does have a lighter side, with an almost-normal video game aspect to it. This is done via a levels-based money and wagering system, where the player must attain a certain degree of proficiency in any particular game before he is able to bet larger amounts. All of the graphics, equipment, and game rules are authentically Caesar's Palace based, and as such they are quite classy. The animation is flawless, and the voice-overs by the dealers and croupiers are very realistic. The background noise and the sounds of the cards and machines are dead-on. In particular, the lighting of the several table and card game layouts is fantastic. This game is a winner for the more serious casino gamer, or for anyone who would like to train or play in an authentic casino environment. Anyone else, though, will probably want to pass this title by.
Graphics: Tables and machines are sharp and really quite impressive. No slowdown is noticed at all. As mentioned earlier it would have been nice to feel like you weren't alone. Each game is just a black void around the actual game. Even if you just saw carpet below when you are looking down at a table or people standing around cheering you on in Craps, as an example, would have been nice. Sound: The dealers sound very good and use the actual catch phrases for each game. Craps is especially fun to hear. There is however some redundancy and most of the voices sound staged instead of spontaneous but are in no way bad. There is also variety in that it's not always the same voices assigned to games. It can vary from male to female each time you come back and there also are differences in dialect such as a British voice for example. The machines however sound too much the same to me.
