Amazon.com Review

Pinobee: Wings of Adventure's cute-as-a-button storyline, in which a famous honeybee inventor creates a Pinocchio-likerobot bee but gets kidnapped before he can install the heart, makes itstand out among other 2-D side-scrolling adventure games, but itsgameplay never feels particularly innovative or surprising.

As mentioned, the heartless Pinobee must rescue his doddering inventor,Grampa Bee, through several stages of insect mayhem. He can jump, clingto walls, and has a "dash" ability that lets him briefly shoot forwardthrough the air. The gameplay involves killing enemies, collectingpower-ups and flowers for energy, dashing about, and navigating puzzlesand traps. Pinobee has an energy meter that counts down as he movesaround. Flowers replenish the meter, but if it reaches zero he becomessluggish. Occasionally he'll run into a fairy that grants him new dashpowers and a cricket that advances the story. There's also a diary youcan read between levels that gives you a synopsis of Pinobee's searchfor his Grampa.

While the game itself features a lot of inventive takes on the 2-Dadventure genre, they are, at best, merely recycled from other games. The diary is mostly useless, due to limp writing, which is probablyitself the fault of a poor translation from the original Japanese text. But Pinobee's cute and inoffensive nature makes it perfect forkids. Also, Pinobee has the advantage of being one of the onlynonsequel launch games for the Game Boy Advance. Out of all the 2-Dside scrollers you'll find at launch time--and there are quite a few ofthem--this is the only one you haven't played before. --Andrew S.Bub

Pros:

  • Interesting new ideas for the genre
  • Great for kids
  • Nice graphics
Cons:
  • Bad writing
  • Somewhat tired gameplay

1-0 out of 5 stars An interesting platformer with great graphics.
First off, let me state for the record that Pinobee is definitely aimed at children. When I say interesting, I use this term very loosely. Pinobee stars a bee who must journey through bug land in his many adventures. You start out as a little bee whose only ability is to jump on opponents, which is the typical method of attack in most platformers. As Pinobee progresses through the levels, he meets a fairy butterfly that gives him the ability to mid-air dash. Each dash is a short lived burst of speed. You can hover in the air shortly between dashes. The more dash power the fairy gives you, the more times you can dash, but you seemingly never achieve real flight. Learning to dash allows you to charge some enemies as another viable form of attacking.

Pinobee was graphically impressive. I'm having difficulty deciphering , but it looks like they used polygons for the game. There are just some characters that seem sprite based. For Pinobee himself, I am very impressed at the level of detail used. For the majority of the enemies, they seem to fall to a grainier resolution. This inconsistency can make it difficult to determine what you are really attacking. The backgrounds are well constructed, giving the feeling of being in a flowerbed as well as the caves in Phase 2.I do find it annoying that Pinobee looks at the screen with a balloon head effect every time you use his last Dash and when he gets hurt.

Pinobee seems to fall victim to the mindless, childish action game trap. Progression through levels is very linear, and levels do not seem to differ from the previous. It seems as if there was a predetermined template for levels and minor alterations were made to each. This enforces a strong sense of monotony. At the end of every level, you find Pinobee reading passages from a book. Though I have tried to make sense of them, they just do not seem to put together any real form of a story.Every time you encounter another non-hostile bug, Pinobee takes time to chat with them, using "Blah Blah Blah" as his choice of words. It would be so much nicer if Pinobee would obtain some new weapons or abilities from these seemingly pointless encounters...

2-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this game.
This game is plagued with bad controls and boring levels which all look the same. The plot is weak to begin with and the story progresses slowly. Maybe it's because I bought it used without the instruction manual but I really did not enjoy this game one bit. The only reason I gave it two stars is because it's possible I'm a little too old for the game.
It's only for little kids who are used to Mario-type sidescrollers.

4-0 out of 5 stars An 'A' for effort
Believe me when I tell you that this bee is worth it.Pinobee has the basic storyline of Pinocchio, except the puppet is a robot bee who wants a heart so he can be a real boy...err...I mean, insect. This game is a platformer, but the people at Activision have messed with the genre a bit.Rather than going up floors, you fly.You can't fly forever, so you only "run in air" for a short stretch. You use Dash Power to fly, and you must use it effectively to get through the sky to secret areas containing power-ups that will give you better abilities. This is not your run-of-the-mill platformer. This brings more takes to the platform genre, with meaningful collectibles like a Golden Bug that you defeat to make enemies easier in future levels. But the Golden Bug is quite hard to find. The diary entries at the end of each level are nice, progressing the story well and adding charm to the game.Good music, good sound, nice graphics and levels that you must return to when you have new power-ups.These aspects add to a game that was obviously worked hard, and the hard work came through. It is very fun and cool.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME SUCKS HECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not buy this game! I beat the game 5 times in one day! and i'm not even that good of a player I rented it for five days, played it 1 day and never touched it again. You basicly have to try really hard to get the worst ending which is stupid because he talks about himself being blown to pieces like he doesn't give a hoot! I mean really 27 levels of crap. It took me an hour to beat it. If you ask me it's an hour less of my life. RENT IT FIRST!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars PINOBEE ROCKS!!
I looooooove this game! It's got amazing graphics, and fun music. It is not WAY too hard to beat. I can finish each level after playing about 2 or 3 times. You have to complete 21 levels, (I think) and after you finish you get a different ending, depending upon how well you did. I can't wait to see how I end up!
Plus, more exprerienced players would like it because there are lots of powerful enemies, and the goal is to beat the golden ones. That's how you get a really good ending. But you can get by each level without doing that, but you should. :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great game!
tons of weapons and fun! a must buy!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good game that gets Old
The idea of the game is very neat. Monster trucks trying to blow up each other with weapons. The only thing I find bad about the game is the really annoying overhead views, and the awful music that you have to cut off after about one minute. But the game is fun, alot of cars to play as and unlock, and levels to unlock. The game is good, but it's annoying views and sounds overpower the good parts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mystical Crap
This game sucks.
The biggest problem is the control, and the rest of the problem is basically everything else. It's also insanely difficult. Playing this game just pisses me off and it makes me depressed, there is nothing good about this game! The box has pretty kool artwork though...

3-0 out of 5 stars legend of the mystical ninja starring Goemon
This game is really called "Legend of the Mystical Ninja starring Goemon". It's all right but is hard to complete and a little frusturating if you're not a skilled game master. This game is like some of the old, uncolored Mario games. It is actually rated "kid to adult" because of the slight violence. ...

I got it a week ago and i have one word: Stinks! it is a stupid game that has a fimilar plot of some bad guys gome and the good guys kick them out. on the outside it looks like a zelda game but it is more like a mario type game but worse(not saying mario is bad).i would not buy this game if i were you

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a great choice...
I bought this game completely by chance at a buy-and-sell game store and it was a huge dissapointment. Nobody really expects anything from the old gameboy games anymore, but this one was particularly bad. It's kind of like Pak Man with less dots. It really shouldn't be classified as a RPG (it's a insult really). If you don't already own it, you're not missing anything. Keep your money and go buy a good RPG game. Like Golden Sun.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT an RPG! again this is NOT an RPG!!!!
i wish i could give this game a negitive rating! i bought this game for ... at KBtoys about a year ago thinking it would be a RPG like the quest for N64! It is not an RPG!!!!! its a stupid puzzle game identical as dig dug! if you like dig dug maybe you'll like this game! if you think its an RPG DO NOT BUY!!!!! also the price amazon is giving for this game is also not right! NINTENDO online store sell it for only ... they must have mixed this one up with the other QUEST called QUEST Brians jurney! that one "IS" an RPG! this one is just crap! be carefull! i warned you!

4-0 out of 5 stars The other remake
It is a good game with lots of monsters and magic. It gives you something to do for a long time. I want to get to all the levels thats why it takes me a long time. It is a little hard at first but once you get the hang of it you will go far in this game

4-0 out of 5 stars Gamer review
A lot of people think this game wasn't so good. But once you start playing it you can't put it down. This version is easier than the N64 version but still has the same basics. This is a very worthy RPG. Battle sequences area bit different than regular RPG's. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Basing a game on a cartoon based loosely on aso-so sci-fi movie is not aformula that normally makes for a stellar gaming experience. Alienators:Evolution Continues, however, is a fine exception to this rule. PlayingAlienators is a real joy, and the game is suitable for all ages.

You play as Dr. Ira Kane, and it's your mission to defeat the rapidly evolvingalien goo known as Genus. Genus can take all sort of forms--from wall-huggingkiller larva to vicious mantiwasps--but ultimately manifests itself in the hivemastermind known as Scopes.

Defeating all the incarnations of Genus is a daunting task, but you are wellarmed. True to the movie and cartoon, Genus is vulnerable to shampoo, and youhave quite the arsenal: blue goo grenades, rapid-fire shampoo attachments, shampoo throwers--you'll never look at shampoo the same way again.

Graphically, it feels like you are in the cartoon, and the catchy music adds tothe atmosphere. The mechanics of the game are great, too--they're simple, yetgive a full range of motion. Ira can jump, crouch, climb up ladders and acrossmonkey bars, and aim where he shoots, which is a handy feature if you findyourself hanging from one arm while an alien comes down at you from above.

The only downside to Alienators is that there's no battery save. The gamedoes offer a password save feature, but that means you'll need a notepad nearbyto jot down the cryptic codes if you want to continue your game. --BryanKarsh

Pros:

  • Great control and movement
  • Graphics and music capture the feel of the cartoon nicely
Cons:
  • Lack of battery save and cryptic password system spoil the portable feel ofthe game

4-0 out of 5 stars A game like Metroid, side platform adventure
This game seems to be based off of the Evolution cartoon show and not the Evolution movie. You are David Duchovney's character, alone sent out on several missions to find data, keycards and so on. Each level is quite big and detailed like a cartoon and it is full of dozens of aliens! So many aliens it can get tedious destroying them all, which is why there is a nice variety of guns and special weapons where you push select to chose a standard weapon and L to throw a special bomb. The game has cartoon segments between levels, much like a game based off of a comic book. The graphics are great, and the animations run smooth, however depending on where the player is facing the screen jerks to where the player faces, which might get very dizzying after a while! Also for older players, this game is far too easy to beat, so you might want to skip this game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids . . .
I agree with the reviewers who say that this game is good for beginners. It has a few good features, such as fun (but short) tutorials, autosave which stores the board position after each move, and has a story mode where you get to play opponents from all over the world. However, I do have a few complaints.First, it has several minor programming glitches. For example, as you move from continent to continent it does not always display the graphics of how many trophies you have won on the current continent, but rather gets stuck on the continent that you started on.Also, it is hard to navigate from continent to continent at times. The second complaint I have is a problem I have found on another chess program as well and must be a common programming oversight. If you set up the board to play out an endgame puzzle against the computer, it occasionally makes illegal moves such as moving it's king into check. This problem is so bad and occurs often enough that I gave up on setting up specific endgame positions to play out, which is too bad because I really need to practice endgames. The last problem I have with it is that ALL of the opponents make major mistakes often and thus are extremely easy to beat. When I unlocked Kasparov (the most difficult opponent in the story mode) I checkmated him in 9 minutes the first time I played him and was never in danger or behind in material at any point.I am not a very strong chess player (I can barely beat my old 8-bit original gameboy version of Chessmaster on the lowest settings) and was disappointed that I was able to beat every opponent on the story mode without any effort. However . . . this would make the game a confidence builder for kids, and would be a good way to introduce a beginner to the game. Most opponents you play in the real world will make major mistakes as well, so playing a computer program that does the same would provide a realistic experience for someone just starting out who's best strategy against this program (and other beginners) may be to play defensively, look for a major mistake, and pounce on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Rookies opinion
Clean graphics, with a wide choice of chessboards.A few are difficult to see under average light, but most are fine, and there is a bright, clear black and white board if all else fails.A GREAT feature is that it auto-saves your game at the exact point you left it at.You don't have to back out and find the save screen.Just shut it off, and come back later. No passwords.I don't know what that reviewer was talking about.

I can't offer an opinion as to how the game play stacks up against a good player.I can tell you that although I learned the moves 35 years ago, I've never put any real time into chess.Any other computer or hand-held chess game completely decimated me within moments.Too frustrating to be any fun.I decided to give this a shot, and I'm glad I did.

In "story" mode, the first few "street" players weren't too bad, I actually got through them to take on the master (the master is killing me though)The up shot is that it is enjoyable for me for the first time ever.Although the players have personalities, and playing styles, their moves aren't "canned," They play differently every time.

If you choose "quick game" mode, you can take moves back, replay them, or have the computer choose your move. You can also set up the board for any scenario you like, and jump back and forth between sides if you want.

There are two ways to play another human. You can pass the game boy back and forth, or use a cable.I have not tested the cable. The instructions claim you DO NOT need a second game cartridge.

I don't know how this stacks up to chess master, or other chess games.I can tell you that I consider it money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
This game is AMAZING!I am a novice chess player who has been trying to improve my chess.Ive been reading some books "Complete Idiots guide to Chess", "Reasses your Chess", "The Amatuers mind".And this game is really helping my game. The story mode is cool with 31 different personalites. And they play like different people as well. Some are cautious and play the game running and countering.Others come out blasting like Yosimate Sam.The guy who said there is passwords is mistaken. There are three save slots and the game is saved after every move which means you can play in the doctors office without worrying that you have to finish every game in one go.I have never been happier with a game and have played 6 hr settings regularly.I love this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Kids
This is great for kids. I have played tournament chess and used some of the best commercial software. I went through another round of purchases and trials for this time. There is some powerful software available, but I needed something that young kids could learn with. I looked at PDA software as well, but that did not fit the bill either (one with the "legal-moves" is a good fall-back option). The GBA module works very well. It is easy enough for beginners. It shows the moves. It encourages them to compete against opponents with an increasing degree of difficulty. It is compact and inexpensive. A great buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars problems with tutorial
The gameplay is fun and I feel that I am learning while playing, not working at learning the game. This alone makes it preferable to the Chessmaster software that is on my computer.
The lettering used in the tutorial is very difficult to read.Had to go into sunlight to go through the tutorial.
Have yet to find the letters to be used to save games. Could not find them on the save page.Games are saved, however when the Game Boy is shut off. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very fun game
This is one of the best games that I have ever played. You and your brother have to catch the River King and the Sea King. You can fish in freshwater or saltwater. They are a lot of kinds of bait, lures.and flies that you can fish with. They are a lot of rods that you can buy.In each level there is a town that you can buy bait, tools,And lots lots more stuff. The town has buildings like a bait shop,a fish market,A grocery store,A inn,and more. You can pick flowers and catch bugs to sell at the stores.

When you fish in the ocean you can go diving for shellfish. They are lot of people that you can talk to and trade with. In certain parts in the game you will run into animals that you have to fight. There are lots a lots of fish that you can fish for. Most of them are in saltwater. This is a very very fun game and thats why I rate it 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game to coincide with Harvest Moon 2
This game is very complicated, but after a while you will get used to it. It has an extremely well fishing engine, and it also works great to trade with Harvest Moon 2. If you've played the first one and liked it, you'll agree that this game is ten times the fun. It is also much, much longer than the first one and is sort of a two in one game. By that I mean you can choose to be a kid and go through his game or you can choose to be a teenager and go through his adventure. Those two modes have nothing to do with difficulty levels, but they do have everything to do with different adventures. There is also three more things you can do that are added from the first game including planting flowers, sea-shell diving, and catching bugs. All this in addition to the original games' modes of RPG elements, fishing (of course), and fighting animals. This game will cause you to dust off the ol' game boy and start using it. You'll be amazed at the quality of this game. It was even delayed three times so that the developer could polish up the game and add more lakes. Overall, you can't go wrong with this game. It is excellent! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best collectors item
This game, Pokemon Green, is the now known "blue" version in Japan. When they translated this item into English, They called it Pokemon Blue. Pokemon Green has many extras in it including: ;new items similar to the Gold and Silver versions ;new pokemon to choose from in the beginning ;and, it's in hirogana (the native japanese language)

This game is fun! You could call it a mix of gold, silver, and the blue version. It does cost a little, but it's worth it's weight to collectors aswell as hobbiests.
