written on February 12, 2003. I received this game as a Birthday gift around Christmas, 2001. I can sit around and play my World Cup Final Phase (including the acurate team rosters for all teams from W.C.Final Phase 2002). I created Senegal, and all of its players (+ uniforms, etc...). I updated Holland, and added missing players to other national squads. Don't get me wrong. I am plenty angry at the database organizational problems I encountered (tell me which programmer I can yell at *hmph*). But, what the heck. It gave me something to problem-solve! And the end result is: Football Playing Bliss! I have developed everything I want. For the record: FIFA 2003 doesn't even have a creation center and is not able to edit players, neither! FIFA 2002 is my adored game of choice for Football. (I also have "This is Football 2002", "FIFA 2003" and "Red Card 2002". I have played "Pro Evolution Soccer 2" on PS1 several times, I don't like it). From the reviews listed here, I've noticed that many people (who DIDN'T like fifa 2002) complained that the game is too easy. My suggestion to them is : Alter the difficulty in the options menus!... That's what the options are for! Make the referee strict! Play in the hardest mode! Damn. do it! Someone complained that the players are too small, and seem too far away. Answer: Change the camera! If you play with the ACTION camera, the players are close, and the action seems real (the faces of the players are even quite clear). Personally, I always play with the TV camera. That is my favorite (I gues it helps to have a 30 inch TV screen, as well). That's my 2 cents worth. I agree with almost everyone (in these reviews) that gave fifa 2002 4 or 5 stars.

Amazon.com Product Description The new impact player option allows the gamer to edit the route or assignment in any play in the team's playbook. There's an all-new running game AI, and more than 1,500 brand-new catches, sticks, and hits, including some animations that were motion-captured using professional stuntmen swinging from rigging wires. Real-player stats, abilities, attributes, and attitudes add detailed realism to the game. The enhanced Create-a-Player mode allows the user to not only select the player's height, weight, and position, but also the uniform, face, head size and type, size of pads, facemask, and more. The game features enormous 3-D player models, with bulging muscles and real-player faces. The over-the-top gameplay features players leaping, soaring, diving for passes, stiff-arming, the bulldozing and railroading of would-be defenders, and precision passing. Intuitive, fast-action, extreme-style controls allow for quick-response gameplay. The game is equipped with the original NFL Blitz point-'n'-pass system and icon passing. Dynamic camera angles capture all of the deep crossing routes and monster sticks by the linebackers. Reviews (19)
This game does however has some redeeming qualities. The commentators are [smart-alecs], but their comments do get repetitive.Next, the use of the "Impact Player" is innovative and assists with the offensive strategies easily.Lastly, the graphics generally are much better than the arcade. Overall, this game is a rental, unless you like NFL Blitz in the arcade.

Amazon.com Product Description But then along comes NCAA Football 2003 by EA Sports, a game so good that after a few weeks, even your dog will wonder why you never find the time to communicate anymore. Start with the AI--by far the best yet in a college game. Defenses not only react to your play calling and adjust their strategies as the game evolves, but they expertly disguise their coverages and swarm to the ball with speed and decisiveness. In addition, your computer opponent actually makes intelligent clock decisions when time is running out (shocking!). The running game at times is a bit easy on the lower difficulty levels (especially if a back like Oregon's Onterrio Smith has the ball), but that's why they made All-American and Heisman levels. The graphics, as are typical in football video games over the last couple of years, are extremely good, and the between-play animations provide extra spark to the rivalries (taunting runs rampant). But the graphics aren't the star of the show--it's the dynasty mode, stupid. With enough special features and stat categories to keep college football hopheads happy for months--including a comprehensive recruiting engine, a customizable intro screen that features your favorite school's colors and fight song, and a Trophy Room that displays all your bowl and rivalry game hardware--NCAA Football 2003 just might make fans forget the depressing length of the off-season. --Rivers Janssen Pros: Cons: Reviews (137)

Amazon.com Review The game has Frogger on a quest to find a princess who can transform him into ahuman through a kiss. The developers attempt to mimic the 3-D platform action ofgames like Crash Bandicoot and Rayman, but fail to deliver on manyfronts: the controls are unresponsive, the camera system is infuriating, and thegraphics suffer from clipping and frame-rate problems. Players can beat the gamein fewer than five hours, and it would be a lot shorter if the load timesweren't so horribly long. One of the few positives is that the game's 15 levelsare quite picturesque; that is to say the game looks good when nothing ismoving. Players nostalgic for Frogger fun will be better served by theexcellent Frogger's Adventures:Temple of the Frog for Game Boy Advance. --Raymond M. Padilla Pro: Reviews (45)

Amazon.co.uk Review Graphically its gorgeous--low sun blocks the view of the horizon in winter weather, and the snow courses look so real its tempting to get out of the car and construct a quick snowman. Sound, too, adds to the flavor with fully realistic engine sounds and a co-driver who gets almost sarcastic when a mistimed bend results in an unfortunate meeting with the scenery--again. Race modes include an arcade driving section and an excellent career mode which allows the competitive player to tackle the 20 top-class vehicles available. Overall, V-Rally 3 is a very worthwhile purchase; once the initial shock of the difficulty wears off theres real depth and excitement here. --Chris Russell Reviews (11)
All else said, I LOVE to drift in this game.Highly recommended if you love to drift in the snow......
The main focus of V-Rally 3 is its career mode (appropriately entitled V-Rally Mode). In fact, V-Rally 3 simply CANNOT be played until at least one driver has been created; only then can the various gameplay modes be accessed. The created driver(s) can then be used in V-Rally Mode to progress from the 1.6L FWD (Front Wheel Drive) category up to the 2.0L 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) category of competition.V-Rally Mode is explained in further detail below. Also available are two quick race options: Time Attack Mode and Challenge Mode.Time Attack Mode is self-explanatory.Challenge Mode sets the player on three or more stages, which must all be completed within a specified time limit. One of the best things about V-Rally 3 is that there is rather little time spent in loading each stage. For all the graphic detail, this is quite amazing. It also helps that there is a screen providing information on each stage as it is loaded, providing the player something to look at and consider as the stage is being loaded. The Gran Turismo series, perhaps the most successful racing series on PlayStation and PlayStation2, introduced rally racing in Gran Turismo 2, and then brought it back with many visual changes and a few new venues in Gran Turismo 3.This is likely the first experience with rally racing for many PlayStation and PlayStation2 gamers. While Gran Turismo 2 includes two point-to-point stages (which were unfortunately eliminated from Gran Turismo 3), the Gran Turismo series primarily feature circuits, which are fairly rare in actual rally racing. To this extent, the V-Rally series is much more realistic than the Gran Turismo series, although the Gran Turismo series certainly excels in its vast multiplicity of tuning options. As for the game's downfalls, there are really only three. The first is that there are only six countries, with ALL of Africa counted as a "country" for the purposes of the game; there is still a variety of terrain types in V-Rally 3, but this does make for extremely short seasons.Second, fans of earlier games in the V-Rally series will be disappointed that there is no Track Editor included in V-Rally 3; with the more powerful graphics capabilities of the PlayStation2, it would have been nice to see how a Track Editor would look on the new console. There are also pop-up issues in V-Rally 3 in those instances where the player has a clear view of distant terrain; most of the time, the roadway is immediately bounded by forests, crowds, mountainsides, etc., so this is not always an issue, but it is definitely noticeable whenever there are no tall obstructions alongside the roadway, such as in some stages in Sweden and Africa noticeably. Overall, V-Rally 3 is definitely a fun game, although it is an arcadish version of rally racing overall.Diehard rally simulation fans will likely want to stick with World Rally Championship, but V-Rally 3 will certainly provide some good entertainment value.

All in all this game is very good. I don't think it's really much better than NHL 2003 though; rent both before buying, or wait until fall for the new one's
The only problems I have with the game is the jersey numbers. For example, I acquired Daniel Briere, and instead of letting me pick his jersey, the game automatically gave him #66. It's the little things that bother me. A game that is so good, shouldn't have that kind of glitch in it. If you can look past that, it is a great game, a must buy! I hope NHL 2K4 is just as good.

I couldn't believe how quickly my daughter took to this game -- her first PS2 experience. She now regularly shows ME how it's done and I am a lousy player by comparison. The game never stops challenging her and while there is a bit of violence, it's of the cartoonish type.Woody's sensibility as a character is funny (as in the way he surveys new scenes, or spontaneously dances on occasion). The 3D graphics are really impressive, as is the intuitive nature of your ability to see from Woody's perspective.A great, well-crafted game.

Amazon.com Review Graphically, no one can touch the stunning visuals and attention to detail thatEA Sports has given to every ballplayer and stadium. Most players' facesaccurately resemble their real-life counterparts (albeit with oversized heads),and they come complete with customized batting stances and perfectly rendereduniform detail. The ballparks themselves come alive in breathtaking beauty as avariety of camera angles put you right on the field and in the seats. But too many inconsistencies and omissions hold this game back from greatness. Most unrealistic is the frequency of home runs and the ease with which you'reable to score runs--the novelty wears off pretty fast after swatting long ballafter long ball and finding yourself tied 9-9 in the 4th inning. Playing at therookie, pro, or all-star level does little to stem the outpouring of runs, anddoes even less to shorten the tedious game pace, perhaps the mostunintentionally realistic part of Triple Play 2002. Fielding could usesome fine-tuning as well. And when does EA Sports plan to reintroduce injuriesto this series? Game modes still feature fully customizable season options and the home runderby, either one-on-one or tournament (up to eight players). But gone from thederby, strangely, is the option to choose from past legendary players andmembers of the 500-home-run club. Calling the action this year is the two-man announcing team of Bob Costas andHarold Reynolds. Costas thankfully keeps things more low-key than his real-lifepersona, while Reynolds dishes the sass like a pro ("This isn't an eyetest--swing the bat!"). --Larry White Pros: Reviews (47)
With that said, there are a few things that bother me about this game: 1) In the game, the home team takes the 3rd base dugout in every stadium. What's up with that? I've been a baseball fan all of my life and pros and cons aside - this is a terrific game to play.I think it might cure my offseason blues.
First, I found the levels of play a bit unbalanced. The "Rookie" level is, as intended, very easy. The problem comes between the two top levels. In the "Professional" level, it takes a short period of time to easily dominate the game. Yet if you move up to the "All-Star" level it is nearly impossible to win consistently without a top team, no matter how good you are. The problem is that suddenly EVERY computer comtrolled player makes All-Star plays on defense on EVERY play and you cannot sneak a fastball by anyone when pitching...even with Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. The realism is lost at this level in order to make the computer more competitive. The problem is that this punishes players who really would be unbeatable otherwise. Second, the graphical representation of the uniforms is not as good as in some competing games. This is only a minor criticism and most people would not even notice it. I am nit-picking to be sure. Finally, there is a limit of 24 slots for created players. If you are someone who is interested in keeping rosters current, this will grow frustrating late in the year when more and more rookies get called up and suddenly you are out of spots to creatr them. If you do not care about keeping the rosters in line with the "real world", this is of no concern. Even with these criticisms, this is a fantastic game. It has outstanding playability, incredibly detailed stadiums, complete rosters that are current as of January 15th, plenty of player info and ratings, and tons of statistics to give you every aspect of your game or season. While future versions are sure to continue to improve on the Triple Play brand name, this one is certainly worth the price of admission for true baseball fans. ... Read more | |

Amazon.com Product Description Among the gameplay features is the popular Future Throw Technology, which allows you to predetermine a cutoff man or infielder your player will throw to even before he catches the ball. A 3-D batting icon makes it easier to place hits, whether pulling for the fences or driving a grounder through the gap. Reviews (85)
I will note that I'm writing this review after playing it for an hour and a half against my roommate. To be fair (and also to get my money's worth from renting the game), I'll dive into the game again tomorrow morning, but initially I was pretty appalled at the product that Acclaim has released here. As soon as we finished playing, I sat down and wrote up the good and the bad about this game, and found I had trouble finding much good in this game. One thing that I liked a lot and my roommate liked very little was the batting and pitching. The batting is a lot different than Triple Play was on the PSX. (I've yet to play Triple Play for the PS2, but think that'll be one of my next reviews). While other games tend to make hitting overly easy, this sways a little too much in the other direction, but I think it's a good thing. Rather than swing high, mid or low, you have total control in two axis and you get an idea via the pitching cursor where the ball is starting out and then as it approaches the plate. I applaud Acclaim for this interface and I think with a little practice, this control scheme would be my interface of choice for my baseball sims. That being said, the rest of the game is garbage. The controls are lame. Partially Blockbuster's fault, we didn't have a manual, but the base throwing is different and it seems it's different simply to be different. Every baseball game out there PSX, PC, NES, whatever used the control pad and a button to throw - down and X to throw home, left and A to throw to third, or something similar. ASB 2002 uses X, Triangle, O and Square as the base throwing. After being trained since back in the 8-bit days to use the control pad, using the buttons seems unnatural. Had using the buttons given some advantage or speed increase, Acclaim would be revolutionary, but just to be different to be different is lame. Eventually one could get used to their control scheme for that, but there are more controlling woes. Another unwritten rule is the fact that Triangle is used to back out of menus. This is true for 99% of American games out there. Acclaim uses O to back out of menus, which is more the standard in Japanese games, but Acclaim, this is the United States. Again, this is a little thing, but it's just another annoyance. My real lament here is the game doesn't feel like the PS2. I pulled up Triple Play 2000 for the PSX and yeah, textures, characters and shadows are head-and-shoulders above the PSX stuff, but I've seen Madden and SSX. The PS2 can do more than what ASB 2002 is doing! The animations in the game felt very amateurish. A fly ball to the warning track had my roommate settling under the ball. It looked decent, but he had no control. I've got to vote for total control over pretty animations. Also, in terms of the outfield, there was some noticeable blur/jitter-type distortion when the fielder threw back to the infield - unacceptable in anything but a beta version of a game. Additionally, a grounder to second and then the routine throw to first never looked routine. Every time, the second baseman wound up to throw, he faced toward home, making me fear I had accidentally told him to throw home. Magically, the ball would throw to first though. There's no excuse for animation like that with present-day technology. Another thing that should be long forgotten in present-day gaming systems is crappy commentary. The commentary was reminiscent of Hardball 3 back in the day for the PC. There's no color or any real chatter. A lot of the sentences sounded pieced together and I can't remember hearing anything that bad since back in the days of 286 computers. Overall, this game is lame. Once I play it more, and also check out Triple Play for the PS2, I will consider revising my opinions, but based on my first play, I don't think I'll be getting a Playstation 2 baseball sim until at least next season.
The graphics are great. The game runs beautifully with the XBOX. There are no delays, slow downs, glitches or any other problems that I have come across so far. The player faces are intricate and the ballparks are very detailed. I am not sure if they are improved from last year but they are excellent nonetheless. ... The sound is very realistic. The sound effects are detailed and makes you feel like you are right at the ballpark. The crack of the bat when you hit it on the sweet spot, the crowd chattering during dull parts of the game and the managers yelling at their players to shift over. The announcers are also very good. You rarely here anything that you say to yourself, "Didn't I just hear that?" Also, for some of the more intricate plays in the game, the announcers can describe them very well...The game runs smoothly and without any glitches...
