4-0 out of 5 stars Great
Even though the Ea a sports games are more real the animation and fun are a lot higher quality in the Midway games.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was really surprised :)
Im a big fan of hockey.....and I loved this game, everyone so far has given it big numbers and they arent wrong....my ONLY fault with the game is that there are only 5 players on the ice (including the goalie) there should be 6....but other than that I love it. I especially like the mardi gras heads you can add to your player to make them look all crazy and you can adjust the players size and face and even sex? (either this game is sorta Politically correct or women will soon be joining the NHL hehe) I liked the nicknames you can give your players too. I really like being able to make your own team with its original uniforms and name, and you can buy improved equipment and enhance your players abilities as they gain experience.....the game is easy to get the hang of and lots of fun on all levels....its easy at first but gets REALLY hard as you go on...so it kinda eases you into wanting to play more to improve your team and take on harder and harder challenges. I just rented this game from blockbuster video but I would like to buy it....I didnt want to bring it back hehe I only played with one player but I could see this game being GREAT at parties hehe. It even has good music from contemporary bands, makes me feel like im going to the hockey game.....all in all one of the better games for the PS2 ive played so far, I think computer games may eventually replace movies for entertainment because you dont have to just passivly just sit there and zone out and drool in front of the screen....you actually affect the outcome of whats going on in front of you...but you know that already hehe

5-0 out of 5 stars Midway does it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you haven't tried this game your really missing out!! Nhl Hitz 2003 has the best graphics ever! If you get your meters full(by preforming checks and deaks) you go on "fire". So here are some pros and cons.

Pros: the graphics are wonderful.
Cons: you can get/give the wonder of being hit thru the glass

5-0 out of 5 stars Tippy
This game is _awsome_. The play isn't particularly faithful to the actual sport, but as a video game, it's killer. It's fun enough as a one player game, but the more people you play with, the better it gets. I never write reviews, but people have to know that this is one of the best sports games ever. The word must get out.

4-0 out of 5 stars NHL Hitz 2003

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!
I've played this game more than my son! It is very realistic, and exciting. You have to know what you're doing to land a 16 pound Florida Largemouth!!!!! You have to compete well enough to advance to the next tournament(4)and to earn different lures. After advancing through the four tournaments, there is an invitational where you compete for all-tournament champion. You fish in different seasons as well as different bodies of water, from forest, parks, city, to to a place with aztec ruins. You will enjoy this game, if you enjoy fishing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Top Angler...The worst fishing game ever
This is the worst fishing game I have ever played. The graphics are sub par the gameplay is limited and fighting a fish is frustrating. Save your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Top Angler
I agree with previous.....way too limited. You cant even decide
what rod or line strenght you want. All u do is pick your lure,
cast and reel in.Very arcadish game. The graphics are very pretty though and the bass look sooo real!Definitely not a
serious fishing sim...ala Trophy Bass 4.I havent tried Bass Strike but from the reviews it sounds better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent but Disappointing...
I was really excited about this title, and ran out to buy it the day it came out in stores.I was expecting a great fishing game, based on previews I had read along with some nice looking screen shots. The game overall is very limited. One of the biggest problems I have with it, is the fact that you only have a handful of lakes to fish, and are forced to fish only a few hundred feet of the lake, under a preset view, and casting range. If this game had allowed the player to drive the boat anywhere on the lake, and fish at any point, most likely I would have given this game a 4 (giving this game more replay value). The graphics are not too bad, but not really up to par with the capabilities of PS2.The camera angles sometimes are very frustrating, however the fish look and move very realistically. The sound could have used some work...For one, You can't shut off that annoying background music, and there's no background sounds of nature (like birds, wind, etc.), which is something that I particularly enjoy and look forward too when I'm fishing for real.Game play is a little too easy and not very realistic. It seems all the fish so far go for all the lures, and almost every fish I reel my lure past, bites. All in all, its a halfway decent game to play, however it will get old quick, and after a few weeks, either end up sitting unplayed and collecting dust, or on your too-sell-on-ebay list.Rent this first before you buy! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars MY personal review
This game is actually really fun when it comes down to it.I am a 13 year old tennis fanactic so maybe there is a little biased.THe game has good timing and an excellenct choice of players.Including agassi, sampras, kournikova, and seles.I would have to say sega sports tennis 2k2 is a better game but ifyou are looking for another game that is simlar to 2k2 and almost as good i strongly recommend this game IF sega sprots tennis 2k2 is bought first.

5-0 out of 5 stars tennis score: 30-love this game
I'm 33 years old and when you get myself and 3 of my friends together to play doubles, 5 hours later -we take a break! This game is great as a one player game, but plug in the 4-way and you'll have blisters because you can't put it down. The graphics and play are both good. This is the only review I have ever written and highly reccommend it. If you like to play tennis on the court or on the PS2 -you should have this game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buy Sega Sports Tennis instead !
Spent my money on this game and...well...it's not fun.
It's more difficult than Sega Sports Tennis to master and if you're not at the right place at the right time, you miss the ball.
Gets frustrating. The graphics leave a LOT to be desired and there are not many options for screen (video/audio/display) controls.
You CANNOT create your own players.Characters are VERY slow to react/move.
Sorry Namco...you blew it!I would like my money back please.

SEGA did a wonderful job on SEGA SPORTS TENNIS...I'd recommend that one instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Real
I thought this game might be boring or tedious to learn and play, but I was wrong! I have never played a tennis computer game before, although I have played tennis. The timing seems very real and it's nice to have several female players to choose from (male players are available to choose from, too) so I can relate to the characters & really get into the game. It's a little tricky to get used to playing tennis with a controller, but I can't wait to play Smash Court Tennis some more so that I can master the controls and win some games! This game reminds me of real tennis so much, I've almost been inspired to go out and play tennis outside! ;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Why is everyone so frustated with this game??!!
Man, this game's awesome. The best tennis game I've played in my life (yes, better than virtua tennis). This game is not that hard. I've unlocked 2 players and won 2 grand slams. AND I've only had it for a week. People say this game is way too hard but I totally disagree. First (I think unlike most gamers) I read the manual. It tells you EXACTLY what buttons to press if you want the ball to land where ever you want it to. This game has also got mad graphics and music. I suggest you read the manual first if you don't want to get frustated with the game.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Game SUCKS!
First of all, there is no way to even make contact with the ball unless it is right down the gut.Second, if you play against the computer, then you may get a few strikes on him, but he hits the ball everytime. If you are thinking of getting your kid a playable baseball game, this is not that type.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOL !
I've played ESPN MLB while i was renting baseball games while
deciding which game to buy.I played ASB 2005 and i didn't like it.I played MVP 2004 and it was a good game. But when i played
ESPN MLB I was hooked.I then knew what game to buy.I like the choices in uniforms you can use.the only thing that stunk was no
Barry Bonds.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
this game was a complete dissapointment.last years one was pretty good and realistic.but this year it got worse.the graphics are only average, controls are bad, and animations are unrealistic.almost any pitch you throw in the zone is a homerun against the good hitters.i can hit 4 homeruns in one game with one player and not even have to try hard.dont even rent this game.its NOT worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars After further review
It's better than I previously thought. In the past several weeks, cracked bats, intuitive AI, and really nice realistic baseball, games, scores, stats etc.
And another thing, the LEGENDS team and stadiums are available at the get go......I don't have the time to play countless hours of videogames just to unlock Honus Wagner. MVP is ridiculous in this regard.

5-0 out of 5 stars ESPN MLB Baseball is the best!
ESPN MLB Baseball is the best!It has a lot better graphics than MLB 2005, and ASB '05.One of the best parts this amazing game, is the First Person Baseball mode. With this, you could play a normal game through the eyes of any actual baseball player.Another part is the 3-D K-ZONE.This would tell you where the ball was thrown by the pitcher. The part I like the most is the pre-game show before any game. In an exhibition game, the pre-game would tell you who is pithing and what there 2003 statistics are.In Feason, Franchise, or Dynasty Mode, Karl Raveach would tell you the standings. There is also the Duel Mode. This is sort of a fast paced mini game. You could pick anyone in this including legends like Stan Musial, and Catfish Hunter. In the Dynasty Mode, you have to pick a job with any team. Then the manager gives you a contract. After he gives you a contract, he gives you goals to do. (e.i. Limit your spending to 465 BP.)The more goals you suceed goals the longer you stay with the team. The more goals you fail the shorter you stay with the team.Eventually you are fired and have to find another job. When there are no jobs left, you are forced to retire. There is much that you can do in this incredible game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Who Loves Soccer?
This game has tons of action.Anyone who likes playing soccer should buy this game. All my soccer friends and I play this terrific game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still my favorite! ...
For the record, I am reviewing the European version of FIFA 2002, for PS2 (I imagine the european and usa versions are the same quality)

written on February 12, 2003.

I received this game as a Birthday gift around Christmas, 2001.
It was frustrating to get used to the controls, and losing much of the time. But having progressed to NOW -- I LOVE this game! I have LOVED it for about 6 months. I had some initial trouble getting the database to agree with what I was asking of it (over 50 created players, over 20 created teams, editing existing team names/Player names and flushing out (or transferring) entire groups of players from existing teams, creating over 20 different cups/championships, managing team formations). It took me 4 different memory cards (for all of my tournaments, and database conflicts) ... but now things are smooth as silk!

I can sit around and play my World Cup Final Phase (including the acurate team rosters for all teams from W.C.Final Phase 2002). I created Senegal, and all of its players (+ uniforms, etc...). I updated Holland, and added missing players to other national squads.

Don't get me wrong. I am plenty angry at the database organizational problems I encountered (tell me which programmer I can yell at *hmph*). But, what the heck. It gave me something to problem-solve! And the end result is: Football Playing Bliss!

I have developed everything I want. For the record: FIFA 2003 doesn't even have a creation center and is not able to edit players, neither! FIFA 2002 is my adored game of choice for Football. (I also have "This is Football 2002", "FIFA 2003" and "Red Card 2002". I have played "Pro Evolution Soccer 2" on PS1 several times, I don't like it).

From the reviews listed here, I've noticed that many people (who DIDN'T like fifa 2002) complained that the game is too easy. My suggestion to them is : Alter the difficulty in the options menus!... That's what the options are for! Make the referee strict! Play in the hardest mode! Damn. do it!

Someone complained that the players are too small, and seem too far away. Answer: Change the camera! If you play with the ACTION camera, the players are close, and the action seems real (the faces of the players are even quite clear). Personally, I always play with the TV camera. That is my favorite (I gues it helps to have a 30 inch TV screen, as well).

That's my 2 cents worth.
I think this game rules!

I agree with almost everyone (in these reviews) that gave fifa 2002 4 or 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is rather
That about sums it up.This game is rather.Other FIFA games have been fun, but not as much as this one.I loved FIFA 95 for the Genesis, but this version kicks 95's patootie.I especially like the fact that you can control the keeper from anywhere on the field.

4-0 out of 5 stars Would like to review but I CAN't BUY????
Why is there no shopping cart available for this.If it is sold out it should say so.What up that? Please Help

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for true football fans!!
This is the best football game I have ever played. It is amazingly detailed: player faces, shirt sponsors, shoe colours(!?).It's got all the best teams and players from around the world. You can play seasons, tournaments (Champion's Cup, EFA Trophy and when unlocked a few others) and World Cup qualification (but alas, no actual World Cup). The controls are slightly different than 2001, but the passing system is a joy when one has mastered them.I have seen, and cannot understand people complaining about the shooting and passing, in football you never always get within the vicinity of the goal.It is a slap of reality when a player misses the goal by 10 meters because the defender is trapping you to one side.It is absolutely brilliant! If you love football, this is your game. ... Amazon.com Product Description

NFL Blitz 2002 has been completely reinvented by the original creators of the NFL Blitz arcade game to take advantage of the powerful PlayStation2 platform. All of the 3-D player models, NFL stadiums, and over-the-top animations have been re-created, along with the team-specific plays and intense sound effects.

The new impact player option allows the gamer to edit the route or assignment in any play in the team's playbook. There's an all-new running game AI, and more than 1,500 brand-new catches, sticks, and hits, including some animations that were motion-captured using professional stuntmen swinging from rigging wires. Real-player stats, abilities, attributes, and attitudes add detailed realism to the game. The enhanced Create-a-Player mode allows the user to not only select the player's height, weight, and position, but also the uniform, face, head size and type, size of pads, facemask, and more. The game features enormous 3-D player models, with bulging muscles and real-player faces.

The over-the-top gameplay features players leaping, soaring, diving for passes, stiff-arming, the bulldozing and railroading of would-be defenders, and precision passing. Intuitive, fast-action, extreme-style controls allow for quick-response gameplay. The game is equipped with the original NFL Blitz point-'n'-pass system and icon passing. Dynamic camera angles capture all of the deep crossing routes and monster sticks by the linebackers. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than the arcade, but...
This game is missing some things that I would have liked. First, I wish there were more replays or the choice to have more replays.Second, the players weren't zoomed in too much, and they looked like ants.Furthermore, you really couldn't hit the other player after the play was over -- a lot -- like the arcade version where you can keep hitting the player two or three times before selection of plays.Lastly, the computer AI is too good generally. When you are stomping on them, the game ups the defense and they either intercept or force you to punt until they catch up.Overall, this a good party game, but in single-player mode it bites.

This game does however has some redeeming qualities. The commentators are [smart-alecs], but their comments do get repetitive.Next, the use of the "Impact Player" is innovative and assists with the offensive strategies easily.Lastly, the graphics generally are much better than the arcade.

Overall, this game is a rental, unless you like NFL Blitz in the arcade.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
I bought the game pretty much knowing what it is, which is arcade-like football. Its fun with 4 players, even with two.
Its all around...OK. Graphics are good, tackles are great.
The 2 points I had to make that are reasons I gave it 3 stars are:
1. When trying to change players while chasing a QB, WR, or RB, or while the ball is in mid air it does not change the player fast enough.
2. No create-a-player, no player trading,or custom teams I guess its so people will buy the newer one as soon as it comes out. I like to keep the teams current, and you can't ith this game. For example if playing as the Falcons, I would like to be able to bench Chandler and put Vick in at QB, but he is at WR... things like that...
...The enhanced Create-a-Player mode allows the user to not only select the player's height, weight, and position, but also the uniform, face, head size and type, size of pads, facemask, and more. The game features enormous 3-D player models, with bulging muscles and real-player faces....BR>Umm... No, there is no create-a-player mode!...

5-0 out of 5 stars midway goes all the way
this game rocks no rules is awesome...if there were refs in this game they would be just as useful as a cook with a paintbrush.preaty much what i`m tryin to say is a game with no rules or limitations is awesome, but they took away the unlimited pass distance from blitz 2001 and made it 60 yard limit.new plays it is just awesome over 10 pages of plays it just doesn`t get much better.and still have the original blitz plays like Dabomb witch describes this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
I have always liked Blitz for PS1. So I just went out and bought it for PS2. Its basically the same as the previuos ones but with better graphics of course.
CONS: The only complaint I have with this game is that the controller configuration is different. So if your used to the controlls on previous Blitzs it [is bad] trying to adapt to this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a game for a serious football fan
It was ok.But I am a serious footbal fan so I did not like it to much. There are no rules and no refs. You can tackel the person any way you want to.Even after the play has ended. And the passing game is very cunfusing. It is hard to pass to a reciever that you want to pass to.If you want a good ruled realistic game, you should get NFL 2002 or NCAA 2002.Those are serious football games. On the other hand, if you just want to tackel and have fun, get this game. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Game
This game is good because it has a lot of things to do.You can also make seasons and play games with your team. The graphics are very good and there is also a very good separate fighting mode.Another reason this game is good is because the controls are easy so you do not get confused with the other controls.Out of a lot of hockey games this would be one of the best.Overall, I think this is a very good game.

3-0 out of 5 stars 2 units frustration, 1 unit fun
NHL 2004 can be a fun game, but it has some serious flaws. The difficulty levels are unbalanced. The AI is downright repulsive.Your "teammates" are usually completely oblivious to what's going on around them, and can hardly follow any of the plays you choose. The plays that you can choose hardly ever make a difference when you're playing. If you're not PERFECTLY in position for the play, the teammates have no clue. The referee AI is atrocious. The computer-controlled team gets away with rapid-fire cross-checking, sucker punching your players in the face, and literally probing your player's bowels with their sticks (The fact that this BS is even in the game is disappointing), however if you so much as think about hooking someone, off to the box you go.Something is horribly unbalanced about this game.A regulation-length game produces sometimes 140 shots and anywhere from 10-20 goals per side.Other then all that, it is a pretty fun game.

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL has done it again!!!
NHL gamers, this game (besides thu 2005 version) is absolutly thu best hockey game ever! graphics r awsome, season mode rocks, and online mode is unbelievable! my only complaints: ALL thu athelete's faces look thu same and it is SOOOOO easy to score even on thu most hardest difficulty level. this game will keep u entertained for weeks and weeks and weeks! this is a must have 4 sure!

3-0 out of 5 stars good game, could be a lot better.
this game on the whole is pretty fun, but very very frustrating.i had one game that i went into the 3rd up 13-1, and i barely won 14-13.the catch up logic is pretty gay.the players on your team aren't that smart either.whenever i try and spring a guy for a breakaway, he turns away from the puck.when you have the defensive pressure set back when you are trying to protect a lead, you are almost giving the other team a comeback.

the game is also way too easy.i have it on difficult, and my team isnt that great, and i still win every game.

they also dont have teams top prospects on the rosters.im a philly guy, and to not see jeff carter, mike richards, or even joni pitkanen, was kind of upsetting.

the player models are ok, but i saw screens from espn, and they looked a lot better.there are 2 or 3 different head shapes and some players dont even look right (ie. dan mcgillis looks just like kim johnsson).the arenas all look the same too.i would have liked to see my home away from home (the wachovia center) look a little more like it does in real life

dynasty mode is ok, but there is no way to track injuries and the "expensive retirement gift" is a big nothing.i thought there would be some cool unlockable, but i just won a house.

the fighting engine is a great idea, just poorly executed.it gets way too hard sometimes, and guys like brashear will loose to someone like jason blake.

there are good points to this game though.i love how the right analog stick is used to deke.i had nhl 2002 and constantly held triangle to manually deke, just cause it works so much better.it makes the goals a little more gratifying.

the intros are cool, but they are a little repetitive.

the one thing the nhl series has done right all along is the celebrations for winning championships.and this one is no exception.the stanley cup celebration is fun to watch.me being from philly, where when our teams get a wiff of a championship they just pass out, it is fun to pop the disc in and play a playoff and win so i can finally see the orange and black life the cup.

it is cool when you win a world championship too, and getting to hear the different national anthems.

the menu screens are very nice as well.picking your favorite team as the background is a nice feature.

all in all this is a pretty average game.it has its strong points, but it is weighted down by many flaws.if your a devote ea fan, pick it up, but dont expect to be blown away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
I know people have complained about a hit fest and bunching of players, but overall, this is a very fun game. I found it easy to make the game very realistic and dispell the problems people claim to have by adjusting the gameplay settings (about 20-25 diff sliders) to a more reaspnable level. The visuals are great also. Real equipment, good faces, popping helmets, and individual player hair. Gameplay features allow you to control when players drop the gloves, what kind of hits you perform (over 100 hit animations), and to turn and stop on a dime. But by far my favorite feature in '04 was Dynasty Mode. This mode is even bigger then Madden. Play happiness, different upgrades (ex. hiring goalie coaches, scouts, managers, lawyers, equipment managers, trainers, and more), and more. There is to much to list.
Bottom line, even if you arent a hockey fan, pick up this game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars OH JEEZ, THIS GAME ...
This game ... . Compared to any games in the SSX series this game ... . I bought it with my PS2. The control is horrible. And you can't even do many tricks. It is super hard. it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to land any tricks. Sure the graphics are good, BUT THE GRAPHICS DON'T IMPROVE THE GAMEPLAY. Theres like 10 people. I HATE IT. IM SO GLAD I BOUGHT SSX WITH IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars This rocks!
This game is the best because its not like those dumb fake games. It has tight courses and sick tricks. I am a snowboarder and every time before I go boardin I play this to get me goin. U dudes got to get this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Vs. SSX tricky
SSX tricky is much better. it may not be realistic but it is alot more fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
This is really cool game.It is not really repetitive but after a while you do need a break from it.The graphics are amazing and the feel of playing is also awesome. There are some really cool tricks on this game and they don't take to long to master.Everytime i played i learned new tricks.I give this a 4 star rating because it is a really cool snowboarding game and fun to play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Snowboarding Game out!
This is the best snowboarding game I have ever played! If you like a more reaistic game then this is the game for you! 5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Actually, I stopped my here on my way to buy some more dance games. We picked the game and a dance pad up yesterday, and my husband and I have just spent three hours laughing at each others attempts at keeping time. My two year old daughter loves it, since the more we dance, the more Jungle Book songs she gets to hear, and soon, she'll be able to try the easy level for herself - the easiest level is deinately fine for small children, and us adults only made it up to about the third level. Fun for the whole family, and a great laugh. Hopefully now I can find some more fun dance games for athletically challenged!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun with Controller
I bought this game for my 4 year old son last summer. We play it with the controller (it can be played both with controller or with dance mat).I enjoy this game as much as he does.He doesn't have a problem getting me to play PS2 with Jungle Book. This is one of the few games I really enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for family fun!
I got the game to play with my 5-year old daughter and then realized I needed dance pads. So I got a pair and the whole family just had a blast for the last three hours playing this game! The team mode allows more skillful players to make up for the sort-comings of less-skilled players, so it is a great collaborative game to play with your kids.

There are five levels and we, the parents, could only keep up on the third level. My 5-year old could just do the easy level, so there is a lot of potential for future play.

This is a great game for kids, or for families that like to play together!

4-0 out of 5 stars dance marathon!
I got this game not knowing what it was about. When I found out, I went out and got 2 dance mats. There is an option that lets you dance vs another player, which is a lot of fun. the most fun is watching others try to coordinate to the lead given by the game... I highly recomend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money- Rent It First
We bought this for our 8 year old son. He likes role playing games and Disney. We thought this would be a good combination. There is really no storyline. The only objective is to "dance" to the right combination of buttons. My son no challange in this. He finished the game in less than 1 hour and was very disappointed.

If you have kids, or even for yourself, get KINGDOM HEARTS. This game will become a classic. Both my kids loved it. After they finished KINGDOM HEARTS they were sad that it ended and they started it all over again.

So NO TO JUNGLE BOOK and YES TO KINGDOM HEARTS ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Football junkies have long been accustomed to loving gridiron video games while tolerating their weaknesses. We appreciate the fact that developers try to incorporate genuine college or pro atmospheres into the games, but it drives us nuts when the fight songs are incorrect, the out patterns are automatic, or the running game is unrealistically easy or hard.

But then along comes NCAA Football 2003 by EA Sports, a game so good that after a few weeks, even your dog will wonder why you never find the time to communicate anymore. Start with the AI--by far the best yet in a college game. Defenses not only react to your play calling and adjust their strategies as the game evolves, but they expertly disguise their coverages and swarm to the ball with speed and decisiveness. In addition, your computer opponent actually makes intelligent clock decisions when time is running out (shocking!). The running game at times is a bit easy on the lower difficulty levels (especially if a back like Oregon's Onterrio Smith has the ball), but that's why they made All-American and Heisman levels.

The graphics, as are typical in football video games over the last couple of years, are extremely good, and the between-play animations provide extra spark to the rivalries (taunting runs rampant). But the graphics aren't the star of the show--it's the dynasty mode, stupid. With enough special features and stat categories to keep college football hopheads happy for months--including a comprehensive recruiting engine, a customizable intro screen that features your favorite school's colors and fight song, and a Trophy Room that displays all your bowl and rivalry game hardware--NCAA Football 2003 just might make fans forget the depressing length of the off-season. --Rivers Janssen

Pros:

  • Terrific AI
  • Fans of almost any Division I program will be happy with the team-specific features
  • Passing engine actually requires you to read defenses intelligently

Cons:

  • Commentary is a bit predictable

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting game
I like football, especially college. This game made my dreams of college football come true. It has tons, and tons of schools to choose from. It has great gameplay, good graphics, and a lot of college fight songs. It even lets you create a team of your own and lets you pick that teams fight song. If you're looking for a good football game than this game should be considered.

5-0 out of 5 stars I-man's Review
Okay, how the heck did EA do this?I'm not sure, but this is absoulutely the best College Football game I have ever played, and I have played quite a few College Football games.I especially like the gameplay and how smooth and simple it is.The commentary is the best you can get with the greatness of Lee Corso, Brad Nessler, and Kirk Herbstriet.I also like the variety of teams that their are, about 150 of them.I also like the new addition of cheerleaders.Their motions are exactly like real-life cheerleaders! The most improved parts of this game from the 2002 edition, is the Campus Challenge and the Create-a-Team.What I like more about the Campus Challenge is that the challenges are more difficult to reach and that they are more fun reaching.I like that EA added a great thing to NCAA Football 2003, which is the Create-a-Team.You design everything, I mean everything about a new team that is made from scratch.I'd say that if the quality of EA's College Football games keeps improving, it will the the best video game series ever!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wake Forest Demon Deacons Win the Title!!
Being a Deacon alum, I had to play a season as the old gold & black. I whipped through such fellow ACC schools like Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, UVA, Duke (doesn't everyone beat the Blue Devils in football?), NC State, Maryland and even Florida State. I went on to beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl by 21 points. My point is this... the game is easy. A resounding YES to the following: Stadiums are dead-on accurate. Graphics are excellent. The university band fights song(s) sound great after scoring or at half-time. Mascots & cheerleaders get into the act. Dynasty, season, practice, rivalry modes give you plenty of options. Just plain fun! I thoroughly enjoyed this game (even if it was a bit easy).

1-0 out of 5 stars TOO EASY
THE ONLY THING THAT MADE THE GAME HARD WERE THE CONTROLS , I FOUND MYSELTH FALLING ASLEEP WHILE PLAYING THE GAME.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best-of-the-Best
I got this game because I wanted a great football game. I was not let down. This game has amazing graphics, lots of plays, fast gamepalay (that's a good thing), and the stadiums are really cool. This game also has a CREATE A SCHOOL option where you can make a school, find a logo, make a stadium, and make your own jersies. This game is the best football game I ever played (besides NFL Blitz), but is just as good. The only bad thing is that it can get pretty boring after a while. So get this if you need a game to play for a couple of months. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great racing Game !
After reading all the reviews I wanted to let people know that this Racing game is great.I think most people dont like this game cause its not realistic, but I dont want games to be realistic either.I hardly like any new games, but this one is a great racing game. The graphich is ok, but the gameplay is great !! the last Grand Prix is almost impossible on the hardest levell ! You take Sunny Beach ,Green Field on the hardest level.

I recommend this if u liked the other Ridge Racer Games, Personally I loved this one and dont get the awful reviews this one has gotten, very unfair.

1-0 out of 5 stars A total waste of time
I got this on the cheap thinking that it would be a decent racing game. I was wrong. I didn't know what to expect, but cars that handle EXTREMELY unrealistically, graphics that are just average in my eyes (compared to NFS 2 Hot pursuit and GT 3) and a general unexpected hardness in gameplay made me sorry I got this game. The cars are fake, which isn't too much of an issue but you have to make the fake cars good. If you're looking for a fun racing game with realistic cars, go for Need For Speed 2: Hot Pursuit, and if you want a good driving sim, go for Gran Turismo 3. Rent this if you must, but don't spend a lot of money for it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool Launch Title
The ideal jaggerific racing expierience. Actualy, it's quite entertaining, and should not be overlooked, especialy by fans of the series.

2-0 out of 5 stars O......K
When i first got this it was hard. Then i played it more and more, I used the slowest car and i beet the game in about 3-4 hours. The game is to short, when you beet it all you have are the time attacks and the races were you try to beet a fake computer guys(time attack).

And how the hell do you get medls!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible game
I picked this up on sale... now I know why it was so cheap.Stick with the other racing games if you want to actually DRIVE a car.If, on the other hand, you want a game that doesn't even resemble racing, then by all means. The play control is absolutely terrible.I know that there is a so called style to the RR games, but this time it is really unrefined. The tracks are almost all the same, with very little variation. The announcer is perhaps even more annoying than the playcontrol, and the game takes forever to load, with many different confirmation screens to get through before actually racing.I thought the ability to design your own car down to the paint job was cool, but not enough.Oh yeah, and the girl on the box is really cute, but don't be fooled by that! ... Amazon.com Review

Every now and then a game is released that redefines genres and raisesthe bar for the competition. Frogger: The Great Quest is not one of thosegames. In fact, it's so bad that it just might set game development back 20years. While the 1981 arcade game Frogger was a simple, enjoyable, addictive experience, this title is a banal and uninspired 3-D platform gamethat preys on the nostalgic feelings of those who enjoyed the arcade original. There are many superior 3-D platformers available on the market, as well as manyFrogger games more in tune with the initial title.

The game has Frogger on a quest to find a princess who can transform him into ahuman through a kiss. The developers attempt to mimic the 3-D platform action ofgames like Crash Bandicoot and Rayman, but fail to deliver on manyfronts: the controls are unresponsive, the camera system is infuriating, and thegraphics suffer from clipping and frame-rate problems. Players can beat the gamein fewer than five hours, and it would be a lot shorter if the load timesweren't so horribly long. One of the few positives is that the game's 15 levelsare quite picturesque; that is to say the game looks good when nothing ismoving. Players nostalgic for Frogger fun will be better served by theexcellent Frogger's Adventures:Temple of the Frog for Game Boy Advance. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pro:

  • Colorful levels
Cons:
  • Horrible controls and camera
  • Lots of clipping and frame-rate slowdown

1-0 out of 5 stars Frogger the greatly annoying quest
I think that many fans of the arcade style games will be disappointed in this game because it simply lacks the cuteness held by its pc counterparts. There aren't really any perks to this game;we find our cute adult frog hero and his family (including a wife and countless children) replaced by an annoying adolescent frog that, while finally being able to swim (unlike in the other games), is lame on a level that issimalar to watching a dog chase its tail for 98 hours. Flimsy graphics give the feeling that the game was released too soon (along with the nausea that comes with the freaky camera).

So let us take a moment of silence to mourn our beloved cute Frogger (voice sounds as if from above "Let us never forget that cute little guy who recued babies from peril, or that arcade format we know and love, or all those direct directions .We will miss you Frogger we will miss you!"...)well the new one STILL stinks so save your money and buy a Spyro or Crash (Bandicoot) game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
This game was great for me - but I'm new to 3-D adventure games.Until recently I was playing on a Gameboy Color and avoiding all games in 3-D because they made me dizzy. This game is paced slowly enough that I can actually get used to 3-D gameplay. It's alot of fun but the graphics don't always keep up with the action, several times I've been stuck in a wall for a few seconds because the view didn't update quickly enough. It's also not what I expected when I heard "Frogger", I thought I was getting an updated version of the original but it's really a different game playing on the Frogger name.Even so I really like the game and recommend it to those looking for something a little slower-paced.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible game!
This PS2 game is pretty bad.The storyline is rather stupid.I found the graphics to be colorful but overall not that great. Also, you spend a lot of time swimming in rivers and waterfalls, but there is NO sound of flowing water!I played this game for about an hour before giving up on it.Maybe little kids will like the colorful, cartoony graphics, but that's about it.Definitely not worth buying to add to your library.Rent it instead if you really want to play it.

1-0 out of 5 stars an embarrassment to sony and to playstation 2
i rented this game when my 11 year old (girl) cousin came over. we both agreed, this game is terrible. and this is from my cousin who is a huge frogger fan and owns every PC frogger game. even though this game is only $$, it isn't worth a penny. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS GAME! here are a list of GREAT games that are also only $$ and are rated "E" for everybody (kid appropriate).

GRAN TURISMO 3(realistic racing simulator)
PAC MAN WORLD 2 (platformer)
ATV OFF ROAD FURY (ATV off-road racing)
SSX TRICKY(snowboarding racing)
NAMCO MUSEUM(4 classic namco arcade games on one disc)
CRASH BANDICOOT THE WRATH OF CORTEX (warning: very long load times, but the game itself is a good platformer.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Bleah!
This game stinks!I dan't know why they would make a game as bad as this.I reccomend Barbie's Horse Racing Video Game instead of this and I'm a boy!
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Oops! Sorry for the inconvienence. This game doesn't have any Pros!

Cons:
The graphics
The gameplay
The controls
The dialouge
The game in general
Someone might buy it for you

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game Ever for ps2
I love this game soooooooooooooooooo much. I played it over my best friend's house. It was som much fun that the family was interacting. There are some challenging parts that really got us stuck, but we did it. I din't want to leave until I finished, but I left. That's why I'm going to buy it myself. I just wanna give THQ a big thanks and thumbs up for this game. You're great game creaters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rocket Power Rocks

This game is fantastic. It kept me glued for months....looking forward to playing each challenge!

Of course...I'm the 35 year old mother of three...so kids may disagree with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rocket power beach bandits is no Tony Hawk but it is good
If you want extreme sports. this is not your game. but if you want a easy adventure game this is your game. the game takes a long time to complete even if it is easy to beat. you will get more than your money's worth. It does not get difficult untill you have to defeat Golem Senior at the end. This can be easyly done if you use the right button for "lock on" and get the "rapid shot puck" from the end of a beam under the platform.

3-0 out of 5 stars its ok
me and my sister got all the way to the last leavel on mondomountion then it got way to hard so i would buy it we dont play it much anymore buy the two towers to :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Horrible game- But what's to expect from THQ?
I am a big fan of Rocket Power, and by god, this game sucks eggs! To unlock everything, all you have to do is answer these questions that even a baby could answer! Come on, do you really expect us to even FAIL at answering these? And even worse, even if you don't decide to cheat, the game is way too easy. The controls suck, but who cares? The game's so easy, you'll give the game a big beating anyway! And the graphics are so ugly, Otto looks like a brown rabbit! Then again, what can you expect from THQ, the company who screws everything up? Word of wise- Nick, take the gaming license away from THQ, and give it to some other company more responsible! ... Amazon.co.uk Review

The latest in Sega’s highly successful series of off-road racing games embodies the best and worst aspects of the racing genre: it’s great fun, and unlike some racing games it’s possible to smash huge chunks off your motor and give it a, er, structural redesign. On the downside, it’s hard. Very hard. The learning curve is almost vertical and it takes a good couple of hours' practice to get to the point where you can keep the car on the road for any length of time. Get past this initial sticking point, however, and V-Rally 3 is excellent fun.

Graphically it’s gorgeous--low sun blocks the view of the horizon in winter weather, and the snow courses look so real it’s tempting to get out of the car and construct a quick snowman. Sound, too, adds to the flavor with fully realistic engine sounds and a co-driver who gets almost sarcastic when a mistimed bend results in an unfortunate meeting with the scenery--again. Race modes include an arcade driving section and an excellent career mode which allows the competitive player to tackle the 20 top-class vehicles available. Overall, V-Rally 3 is a very worthwhile purchase; once the initial shock of the difficulty wears off there’s real depth and excitement here. --Chris Russell ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great rally racing game
I pretty much dominated this game with three separate rally vehicles. It does not take a long time to get used to the controls in this game. It's easy and a whole lot of fun.The only problem I had with this game is the limited tracks.I believe it has less than 10 different tracks, but you race forward and backwards on the tracks. The race can be difficult when the weather turns south. Not because it is difficult to control, I believe that it is even more fun to race in the rain... the problem is the color.I am not sure if my tv is not sharp enough, because the direction of the road and the surrounding environment sometimes blends together... confusing me as to where I should go.

All else said, I LOVE to drift in this game.Highly recommended if you love to drift in the snow......

2-0 out of 5 stars nice graphicsno sega rally
first offno music! boring! second no jumps to get airborne. well some jumps but hardly anything to make u hold on to the controller like youractually steering a real car.I wanna hit start and race period.fine tunning come on...... emails ???? why do i need emails in a race game .the carsoversteer they dont bounce like they have shocks. will someone please tell me are there any rally games with correct physics like a real car . you know when a car goes over a bump the rear of the car goes upanddown! is this a hard thing to program? rent this first. any recomendations that can top sega rally?

5-0 out of 5 stars Rally Good Time
I gotta tell ya, I've played some good rally games before, but this most fun I've had playing a rallying video game and I'm more than happy to tell you how addictive V-Rally 3 is. Once you start playing, you know you'll never stop, so let the rallyist in you out of its cage! In V-Rally Mode, you don't compete in championship rallies, you live and breathe rally racing. It s just so immersive. And the car variety is first-rate. In my V-Rally Mode, I'm in my 8th season, have 26 victories and six titles, three in the 1.6L FWD category with Volkswagen Racing and three in the 2.0L 4WD category with Subaru World Rally Team, whose cars carry the Subaru Rally Team USA name and paintjob. All my titles have been three-peats. I own World Rally Championship and enjoy it. I just needed a new challenge and to race as myself. And V-Rally 3 provides just that. As far as downs ar econcerned, I can only think of a few. First, realistic length special stages would do some good esp. to V-Rally Mode. A real life stage averages 15-35 miles. Finland's 1000 Lakes Rally has stages less than 10 miles long, while the recently dropped (by the WRC) Safari Rally Kenya has stages of at least 45 miles in length. One of them is 66 miles long! Oh, and don't forget the super special stages, which are two lap head-to-head races held on specifically constructed dual circuits, kinda like a mini NASCAR race, like those found in V-Rally 2 and WRC. Second, a real (WRC, for example) rally has about 15-20 stages, while the game has only 5. The Safari Rally has about 12 stages, while the 1000 Lakes Rally has about 26. Individual team testing stages would be a cool addition as well. Third, in the game, when you create a driver, its a real bummer that you can't create your co-driver's profile, with features name, nationality and looks.. The driver looks menu needs more options, too. These ideas would certainly work great perhapsin future V-Rally games. But despite all that, V-Rally 3 is one ultra-strong rally racer that's certainly worth a try. I'm going after my seventh V-Rally championship and I still get a huge rush of adrenaline every time the starting lights go out. All those who agree, play this game. Drivers: put on your driving suit, helmet and gloves, tighten your multi-point seat belts and fire up the engine. Co-drivers, get your pace notes ready, tighten your multi-point seat belts and make sure that your voice box is ready to read those pace notes and get your driver safely through the stages. V-Rally 3 Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Arcadish Rally Game
V-Rally 3 is the first appearance of the V-Rally series on PlayStation2.Not surprisingly, its graphics are excellent, the cars have many more tuning options, the sounds are better and more convincing, and the fun factor has been raised :-) Unfortunately, however, Track Editor (which allowed the player to create original rally stages and circuits) is not included in V-Rally 3, which is a severe disappointment :-(

The main focus of V-Rally 3 is its career mode (appropriately entitled V-Rally Mode). In fact, V-Rally 3 simply CANNOT be played until at least one driver has been created; only then can the various gameplay modes be accessed. The created driver(s) can then be used in V-Rally Mode to progress from the 1.6L FWD (Front Wheel Drive) category up to the 2.0L 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) category of competition.V-Rally Mode is explained in further detail below.

Also available are two quick race options: Time Attack Mode and Challenge Mode.Time Attack Mode is self-explanatory.Challenge Mode sets the player on three or more stages, which must all be completed within a specified time limit.

One of the best things about V-Rally 3 is that there is rather little time spent in loading each stage. For all the graphic detail, this is quite amazing. It also helps that there is a screen providing information on each stage as it is loaded, providing the player something to look at and consider as the stage is being loaded.

The Gran Turismo series, perhaps the most successful racing series on PlayStation and PlayStation2, introduced rally racing in Gran Turismo 2, and then brought it back with many visual changes and a few new venues in Gran Turismo 3.This is likely the first experience with rally racing for many PlayStation and PlayStation2 gamers. While Gran Turismo 2 includes two point-to-point stages (which were unfortunately eliminated from Gran Turismo 3), the Gran Turismo series primarily feature circuits, which are fairly rare in actual rally racing. To this extent, the V-Rally series is much more realistic than the Gran Turismo series, although the Gran Turismo series certainly excels in its vast multiplicity of tuning options.

As for the game's downfalls, there are really only three. The first is that there are only six countries, with ALL of Africa counted as a "country" for the purposes of the game; there is still a variety of terrain types in V-Rally 3, but this does make for extremely short seasons.Second, fans of earlier games in the V-Rally series will be disappointed that there is no Track Editor included in V-Rally 3; with the more powerful graphics capabilities of the PlayStation2, it would have been nice to see how a Track Editor would look on the new console. There are also pop-up issues in V-Rally 3 in those instances where the player has a clear view of distant terrain; most of the time, the roadway is immediately bounded by forests, crowds, mountainsides, etc., so this is not always an issue, but it is definitely noticeable whenever there are no tall obstructions alongside the roadway, such as in some stages in Sweden and Africa noticeably.

Overall, V-Rally 3 is definitely a fun game, although it is an arcadish version of rally racing overall.Diehard rally simulation fans will likely want to stick with World Rally Championship, but V-Rally 3 will certainly provide some good entertainment value.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun game, but has a few rough edges.
Let me just say that rallying is a sport that is overlooked here in the US in comprision to the other more well known racing associations like nascar, indy and to a lesser extent f1.What I really enjoy about this game is the fact that you DO NOT just jump in and join a big team like subaru, ford, peugeot and so on.YOu actually have to prove that you are able to work your way up and basically make your own career.I like this challenge and I also own WRC for ps2 and also plan to get Colin McRae as well. This game although it isn't lisensed by the WRC (world rally championship) it is fun nether the less. The four player multiplayer option can be decieving, were you each race one at a time and try to bet eachothers time.It can get pretty intense if everyone is racing at the same level. In terms of imporements, my biggest complaint is the sound.I have watched WRC for a couple of years now and I know what each car does and does not sound like. They all sound exactly the same, and should they make a sequel, that should really be added.I do wish they made the seasons a lot longer so more tracks would always be welcomed as well.Peope have mentioned that well, the pace notes aren't always perfect, and yes it is frustrating if you are in a tight points for the crown, the navigator is off you take a corner tight when you should have went outside, clip a rock and totally jack up your car.I like to think of it as, well they make mistakes and its just part of the sport and you have to know when to listen to the co-driver and just go with what your eyes tell you.So in the end, for someone like me who would be very bias to any rally game like this, I feel that it is a great game that may need to be polished in a few areas, but is still tons of fun.The biggest factor is how much you like rallying to overlook some of the few down complaints that people have.So why don't you rent of borrow it from a friend to figure out that this one is for you before you buy it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars geez i stopped playing the first time i got it
The levels are so boring. It deserves to be on the cheapest and worst system.Like, it's alot more fun to use the money to drive go carts rather spending on this junk. It's all too flat.Racing games are only good with obstacals like ramps, water splash, and stuff to run over.If you really want to try it, rent it or play at someones house who has this lame game

1-0 out of 5 stars dont bother
i found this game dull and boring the whole game layout was not worth my money racing is fun but unrelistic crashes.the open wheel cars on the game are way different from the movie bly and tanto go by team spirt (korny) simulation is bad. if was do do it all over agin i would go with cart fury or f1 2002
as i said dont bother

5-0 out of 5 stars At Last a Different Take on the Driving Genre
With the odds stacked against them (Driven the movie not doing particularly well) Bam have delivered an exciting and refreshing driving game based around CART (not F1). The graphics are clean and detailed, car physics make for realistic crashes and handling and the whole thing runs at a blistering 60fps giving a real sense of extreme speed especially when racing through the streets of New York and Paris. There are also a plethora of modes to play in including a 15 chapter Story Mode which kept me picking it up again and again. Highly Recommended 8.5/10

5-0 out of 5 stars Driven is good
If you enjoyed the racing scenes in the movie you will love this game. The most interesting feature is a "in the zone" feature which is the same as in the movie.Great crash scenes also.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inappropriate Cover Art
Although I'm sure Sly Stalone is too busy thinking about where his career went wrong, the PR people who designed the cover art for "Driven" should have realized the inappropriate juxtaposition of the twin towers with the exploding race car.As far as I'm concerned, this game and it's offensive cover should be pulled from the shelves. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars nhl 2k3 is great hockey
THE BEST HOCKEY GAME EVER MADE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dead-on depiction of hockey
Although I'm still playing NHL 2002 on occasion after a full year, I'm getting a bit weary of it. On one difficulty setting, I win 7-1 on average; on the highest difficulty, I lose 2-0 despite outshooting my opponent 50-7. While there's no denying that it's an incredibly fun hockey game, it takes too many liberties to be an effective hockey sim. As such, the reward of winning becomes non-existent with experience. Not with NHL 2K3, easily the best simulation of a hockey game yet. The inflated totals of EA's NHL series never pop up in NHL 2K3. The customizability, from the game speed to puck friction to even the depth of the control scheme, easily beats the EA series. Even on the easiest setting, you can't just take a shot and expect it to go in. In order to score, you actually have to MAKE PLAYS, which is the most refreshing aspect of this game and why the reward of winning never diminishes with time. Players can pin each other along the boards for scrums, demonstrating the greatest emphasis on defensive play yet seen in a hockey game. The player rankings are extremely accurate and deep, and the players' defensive values make a huge difference on the ice, unlike NHL 2002 where Sandis 'Bowling Pin' Ozolinsh could single-handedly control the back end. The franchise mode is unreal, with a fixed budget, contracts, an option to send players to the minors, a fantasy draft option, and a solid trading system. In short, everybody can enjoy this game, from fans of the EA/Hitz series to hockey sim fans. Now for the less flattering: the opening menus are sharp, but the in-game presentation falls short of EA's NHL series. The animation couldn't be smoother, but player faces lack the same level of resemblance as the EA series, and the commentary is dry and repetitive. Other flaws include the frustratingly high frequency of injuries, a clunky line-editing system, and on-the-fly line changes that require use of the D-pad (meaning you have to take your hand off the analog joystick to perform them). Any shortcomings on the audio/visual/presentation end become insignificant when placed next to the superb gameplay. The default pacing is nearly perfect, the control is flawless outside of those line changes, and the replayability is endless. For the first time ever, NHL 2K3 simulates the feel of hitting the ice with a stick in hand. The ease of deking defenders means that the game may not play exactly like an NHL game (to do so would be far too boring in today's trap-happy, flimsy-stick NHL), but it wouldn't be unreasonable to call it a dead-on depiction of houseleague hockey, with many more options. Any true hockey fan will not be disappointed with this title, and those looking for a sim experience will never go back.

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL 2K3
NHL 2K3 blends the realistic style of hockey with okay graphics, and makes it an enjoyable experience. I will first startwith the faults: 1 no curves on the stick blades(no order)
2 player scale could be improved
3 Graphics need to be sharper
4 you can't edit the equipment that players were. (There are like 5 helmets, 4 skates, 4 sticks, 2 visors etc.)
5 you cant put created players into franchise mode
Now the Pro's
1 gameplay is magnificent
2 different varities of equipment
3 up to date rosters
4 certain moves like sidestepping and pinning someone up against the boards are in affect
5 player faces are very good
6 puck elasticy and speed are accurate
7 player acceleration and speed are good, can be changed
8 the fighting is not terrific, but better than NHL 2003(NHL 2004 will have a new fighting engine which allows players to grapple and grap and wrestle, instead of button mashing, plus goalies can fight)
9 the hitting physics are very realistic
10 the ratings are good. players are not just rated on stats like in NHL 2003, but in their contributions to the team on offense and defense. here is an example:
NHL 2003: Scott Stevens-85NHL 2K3:
Scott Niedermayer-86 Stevens-94
Martin Brodeur-90Nieds-90
Jamie Langenbrunner-78 Brodeur-99
John Madden- 78-82(somewhere)Langenn.-86 (i think)
Madden-84-87
MUch Better

All in all this game is very good. I don't think it's really much better than NHL 2003 though; rent both before buying, or wait until fall for the new one's

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Few Annoying Bugs
This is a real good game. Very realistic, even down to the goal horns. Playing against NJ as The Mighty Ducks and hearing the goal horn from NJ brought back nightmares from Games 5 & 7.

The only problems I have with the game is the jersey numbers. For example, I acquired Daniel Briere, and instead of letting me pick his jersey, the game automatically gave him #66. It's the little things that bother me. A game that is so good, shouldn't have that kind of glitch in it.

If you can look past that, it is a great game, a must buy! I hope NHL 2K4 is just as good.

5-0 out of 5 stars wicked awsome

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game for a 6-year-old
Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park for PS2:

I couldn't believe how quickly my daughter took to this game -- her first PS2 experience. She now regularly shows ME how it's done and I am a lousy player by comparison. The game never stops challenging her and while there is a bit of violence, it's of the cartoonish type.Woody's sensibility as a character is funny (as in the way he surveys new scenes, or spontaneously dances on occasion). The 3D graphics are really impressive, as is the intuitive nature of your ability to see from Woody's perspective.A great, well-crafted game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun and Action
Drome Racers is a very good game. There is lots of action, and it is fast-paced. I like the music, too. On the nine tracks, you can get damaged by crashing or by being hit by a powerup. When your car is severely damaged, black smoke comes out of your car and its performance suffers. You can collect powerups by driving over them, and some of them can be fired at other racers to cause damage and slow them down. There are 18 cars total, with 6 for each of on-road, off-road, and dragster. They all have different top speed, acceleration, handling, and toughness. I like the tracks a lot. My favorite tracks are the Foundry and Red Creek Cavern. The best cars are Dune Striker, Tremor, Torq Racer, and Pulse Concept. This game has lots of action. You could be 1st one second, then two seconds later, you could be 6th just by getting hit by a RC missile or a Hatchet. I would recommend this game to anybody who likes racing. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

You'd be hard pressed to find a better-looking baseball game thanTriple Play 2002. If only the same could be said for its gameplay. Ifeasy-playing, action-packed ball games spiced with a liberal dosage of the longball are what you're seeking, this game won't disappoint.

Graphically, no one can touch the stunning visuals and attention to detail thatEA Sports has given to every ballplayer and stadium. Most players' facesaccurately resemble their real-life counterparts (albeit with oversized heads),and they come complete with customized batting stances and perfectly rendereduniform detail. The ballparks themselves come alive in breathtaking beauty as avariety of camera angles put you right on the field and in the seats.

But too many inconsistencies and omissions hold this game back from greatness. Most unrealistic is the frequency of home runs and the ease with which you'reable to score runs--the novelty wears off pretty fast after swatting long ballafter long ball and finding yourself tied 9-9 in the 4th inning. Playing at therookie, pro, or all-star level does little to stem the outpouring of runs, anddoes even less to shorten the tedious game pace, perhaps the mostunintentionally realistic part of Triple Play 2002. Fielding could usesome fine-tuning as well. And when does EA Sports plan to reintroduce injuriesto this series?

Game modes still feature fully customizable season options and the home runderby, either one-on-one or tournament (up to eight players). But gone from thederby, strangely, is the option to choose from past legendary players andmembers of the 500-home-run club.

Calling the action this year is the two-man announcing team of Bob Costas andHarold Reynolds. Costas thankfully keeps things more low-key than his real-lifepersona, while Reynolds dishes the sass like a pro ("This isn't an eyetest--swing the bat!"). --Larry White

Pros:

  • Best visuals of any baseball sim
  • In-game music builds up dramatic moments
  • 8-player home run derby
Cons:
  • No injuries
  • Unrealistic gameplay
  • Slow, uncustomizable game pace
  • Player heads are too big for their bodies

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun
Not the BEST baseball game I've ever played but it is quite "fun", and that is where it counts for me! Its pretty easy to hit but the pitching is where it makes up for in challenge. When you pitch you get a box that is in front of the batter. you move the ball around in that box and then pick "slider", "curve" or "fastball" type with the "X" or "O" etc. When you line up the square for the batter you can hit a home fun. The idea is to find where the pitcher's ball stopped if you get the square over it you can get a homerun. Its a decent system in which they have polished up with the next games but this one is fun! I find that the two player game is the best but the single player was good for me because of the line up for my two fav teams. The Braves and the Diamondbacks. I hear 2004 is much better but for the price this is a fun game.

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL
this game is terrible. its way to easy to be realistic. im hitting hrs w/ my leadoff hitters and 9th hitters. you cant put together a REALISTIC game. baseball is a game of strategy and patience, and the score is like 20 to 17. its pathetic

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Baseball Game (for now)
This game is why I bought my PS2.The graphics are incredible. The strategies that you can execute in the field and at bat are very lifelike. The movement of the players and the reaction of the ball in different stadiums is so real that its scary.

With that said, there are a few things that bother me about this game:

1) In the game, the home team takes the 3rd base dugout in every stadium. What's up with that?
2) Where are the injuries??I beamed Mike Piazza in the head, ribs, and back a half-dozen times in this game and he kept coming back for more!
3) Fighting (like in the NHL series) would be nice (see point #2 above).
4) It's pretty easy to score runs, which will make the game kinda boring after a while.I guess if we face facts that it's a computer, we should realize that there will be repeatable scenarios under which you can always score.

I've been a baseball fan all of my life and pros and cons aside - this is a terrific game to play.I think it might cure my offseason blues.

4-0 out of 5 stars homerun derby
I have had this game for a while let me tell you Ive also have high heat and all star baseball and triple play is better than those two no matter what anybody says those two are not better.
The graphics on triple play are better stadium wise and player wise.My only complaint is I think the graphics could be better and the players heads are too big just like everybody else has said. I think the people who play the game say its too easy are playing on the rookie level or pro. They should try the all star level when playing a game. During home run derby though its too easy. Also what [makes me mad] is the repeating replays when there is men on base and you the hit the ball it also bothers me when you are playing defense. Thats basically my opinion triple play is better than high heat and all star baseball.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great American Game gets Better Every Year
This is the third installment of the Triple Play series that I have owned. Each one has been a bit better than the previous year. Since it is such a solid product, I am only going to focus on the negatives. My short list should really serve to reveal how hard it is to find flaws in this game.

First, I found the levels of play a bit unbalanced. The "Rookie" level is, as intended, very easy. The problem comes between the two top levels. In the "Professional" level, it takes a short period of time to easily dominate the game. Yet if you move up to the "All-Star" level it is nearly impossible to win consistently without a top team, no matter how good you are. The problem is that suddenly EVERY computer comtrolled player makes All-Star plays on defense on EVERY play and you cannot sneak a fastball by anyone when pitching...even with Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. The realism is lost at this level in order to make the computer more competitive. The problem is that this punishes players who really would be unbeatable otherwise. Second, the graphical representation of the uniforms is not as good as in some competing games. This is only a minor criticism and most people would not even notice it. I am nit-picking to be sure. Finally, there is a limit of 24 slots for created players. If you are someone who is interested in keeping rosters current, this will grow frustrating late in the year when more and more rookies get called up and suddenly you are out of spots to creatr them. If you do not care about keeping the rosters in line with the "real world", this is of no concern.

Even with these criticisms, this is a fantastic game. It has outstanding playability, incredibly detailed stadiums, complete rosters that are current as of January 15th, plenty of player info and ratings, and tons of statistics to give you every aspect of your game or season. While future versions are sure to continue to improve on the Triple Play brand name, this one is certainly worth the price of admission for true baseball fans. ... Read more

A longtime favorite on the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy platforms, Acclaim launches its baseball series on the PlayStation2 with All-Star Baseball 2002. The game is endorsed by the 2000 All-Star Game and World Series MVP Derek Jeter, and matches its realistic baseball simulation with the 128-bit graphic power of the PS2. All-Star Baseball 2002 provides all 30 MLB teams and stadiums (authentically rendered with working scoreboards, Jumbotrons, animated crowds, bullpen action, and fireworks), as well as more than 700 contemporary pro players. In addition, you'll be able to relive history with an authentic Cooperstown team of 25 baseball Hall of Famers, including Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, and Mike Schmidt. The game even has classic uniforms for each club, so you can suit your team up in traditional Brooklyn blue or Astro orange. Thom Brennaman calls the play-by-play and Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Brenly is there to give the game's color commentary.

Among the gameplay features is the popular Future Throw Technology, which allows you to predetermine a cutoff man or infielder your player will throw to even before he catches the ball. A 3-D batting icon makes it easier to place hits, whether pulling for the fences or driving a grounder through the gap. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool Pitching & Batting Interface, But Nothing Else
I rented All Star Baseball 2002 by Acclaim as everything I've read thus far puts it ahead of the other two baseball sims available on the market, but let's hope the reviews I've read were wrong, because there's not much here that I liked about the game.

I will note that I'm writing this review after playing it for an hour and a half against my roommate. To be fair (and also to get my money's worth from renting the game), I'll dive into the game again tomorrow morning, but initially I was pretty appalled at the product that Acclaim has released here.

As soon as we finished playing, I sat down and wrote up the good and the bad about this game, and found I had trouble finding much good in this game.

One thing that I liked a lot and my roommate liked very little was the batting and pitching. The batting is a lot different than Triple Play was on the PSX. (I've yet to play Triple Play for the PS2, but think that'll be one of my next reviews). While other games tend to make hitting overly easy, this sways a little too much in the other direction, but I think it's a good thing. Rather than swing high, mid or low, you have total control in two axis and you get an idea via the pitching cursor where the ball is starting out and then as it approaches the plate. I applaud Acclaim for this interface and I think with a little practice, this control scheme would be my interface of choice for my baseball sims.

That being said, the rest of the game is garbage. The controls are lame. Partially Blockbuster's fault, we didn't have a manual, but the base throwing is different and it seems it's different simply to be different. Every baseball game out there PSX, PC, NES, whatever used the control pad and a button to throw - down and X to throw home, left and A to throw to third, or something similar. ASB 2002 uses X, Triangle, O and Square as the base throwing. After being trained since back in the 8-bit days to use the control pad, using the buttons seems unnatural. Had using the buttons given some advantage or speed increase, Acclaim would be revolutionary, but just to be different to be different is lame.

Eventually one could get used to their control scheme for that, but there are more controlling woes. Another unwritten rule is the fact that Triangle is used to back out of menus. This is true for 99% of American games out there. Acclaim uses O to back out of menus, which is more the standard in Japanese games, but Acclaim, this is the United States. Again, this is a little thing, but it's just another annoyance.

My real lament here is the game doesn't feel like the PS2. I pulled up Triple Play 2000 for the PSX and yeah, textures, characters and shadows are head-and-shoulders above the PSX stuff, but I've seen Madden and SSX. The PS2 can do more than what ASB 2002 is doing!

The animations in the game felt very amateurish. A fly ball to the warning track had my roommate settling under the ball. It looked decent, but he had no control. I've got to vote for total control over pretty animations. Also, in terms of the outfield, there was some noticeable blur/jitter-type distortion when the fielder threw back to the infield - unacceptable in anything but a beta version of a game.

Additionally, a grounder to second and then the routine throw to first never looked routine. Every time, the second baseman wound up to throw, he faced toward home, making me fear I had accidentally told him to throw home. Magically, the ball would throw to first though. There's no excuse for animation like that with present-day technology.

Another thing that should be long forgotten in present-day gaming systems is crappy commentary. The commentary was reminiscent of Hardball 3 back in the day for the PC. There's no color or any real chatter. A lot of the sentences sounded pieced together and I can't remember hearing anything that bad since back in the days of 286 computers.

Overall, this game is lame. Once I play it more, and also check out Triple Play for the PS2, I will consider revising my opinions, but based on my first play, I don't think I'll be getting a Playstation 2 baseball sim until at least next season.

Especcially my favorite park of themall YANKEE STADIUM!Good anamation, but not nearly perfect.BETTER than high heat 2004!(the overall game). What ASB 03 and ASB 04 dont have is Tony Gwynn and Paulie Oniell and Big MAC and other guys like that. Also theres a Hall of Fame Team (only livingledgends) (plus Catfish Hunter). There are downsides, though, NO FRANCHISE MODE!only a season mode but you canmake it less than 162 games.Something you can't do in ASB 04.While this game has incredible realism and is pretty fun to play youll get tired of it after a while. I'd buy )03 orASB 04 insted but the best cherap game around is ASB 02!

...I was so impressed with 2003 that this year, I bought 2002. If anything, it is definitely better, but it is basically the same game. The gameplay has improved slightly, mainly in batting. ...For those of you that had 2001, you know that hitting was not always easy. It is definitely the area that needed improvement, and it got it. Hitting is now a lot more fun. As always, pitching in All-Star Baseball is just about perfect....

The graphics are great. The game runs beautifully with the XBOX. There are no delays, slow downs, glitches or any other problems that I have come across so far. The player faces are intricate and the ballparks are very detailed. I am not sure if they are improved from last year but they are excellent nonetheless. ...

The sound is very realistic. The sound effects are detailed and makes you feel like you are right at the ballpark. The crack of the bat when you hit it on the sweet spot, the crowd chattering during dull parts of the game and the managers yelling at their players to shift over. The announcers are also very good. You rarely here anything that you say to yourself, "Didn't I just hear that?" Also, for some of the more intricate plays in the game, the announcers can describe them very well...The game runs smoothly and without any glitches...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
Awesome. This is the top baseball game i've played so far. The graphics are stunning, and the controls are easy to master. In Create-A-Player, there are many different accessories to choose from, like blue batting gloves and Red gloves. The pitches for pitchers are cool too. They have the usual pitches, like Curve and Change Up, but they also have pitches like the Knuckle Curve, Slurve, Cutter, Circle Change, and Fork. The gameplay is awesome, and the reaction time is very good. I like the Pitching helper, so you can decide where to pitch it, and where the strike zone is. You can even pitch with with Non-Pitchers. They are good too! My create-a-player Utility man knew a 4-Seam-Fastball, and a slider. This game is awesome. Get All Star Baseball 2002 or 2003!! ... Read more
