5-0 out of 5 stars a basketball game
even though i have not yet played this game, i can tell that it is about basketball.just look at the title for crying out loud.basketball is a game about hoops and nets. yea, even tall men and teams that compete to score and win.it's a game of dunks and slams, of rebounds and assists, of free-throws and 3-pointers.yes, this is a basketball game that is cheap.it is inexpensive. and besides that it doesn't cost very much.buy now a game whose graphics far outdo the other meager games of its kind.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a piece of garbage! (x2)
[...].I could go on and on about the dumb points of this game but I'll just give you the basics.

1.The number 1 reason I hate this game is because you can never hold a lead.If you ever get a lead, no matter how large, the computer will always come back, making these ridiculous shots along the way. Then, when the computer gets the lead back, it goes back to normal and they actually start missing shots again. But never fear because if you work a comeback even in the last seconds of the game, the computer will always almost always beat you.

2.Your team almost NEVER gets a rebound.Sometimes the computer will shoot, rebound, shoot, rebound, etc. three times before they finally get it in.

3.You have no defense.Even if you anticipate the computer's shot and jump to block it, the shooter will shoot the ball right through your guy's hands. This game disgusts me.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME NO MATTER WHAT!!ITS NOT EVEN WORTH A CENT, MUCH LESS $20.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a piece of garbage!!!
This is the worst basketball game I've played in years. For one they have no season mode, just the association which is pretty stupid because you can only control one team and it is pretty pointless. Everytime you leave a guy opened for three he'll make it which doesn't happen in real life and I left Shaq open for 4 threes and he made all of them, pretty unrealistic. Everytime I tried to dunk it gets blocked or I miss it. Almost everytime I have the lead with a couple of minutes to go the CPU makes every shot to take the lead and win the game or sometimes i have to make buzzer beaters to win. When i contest a player for three they just put up a prayer and make it. That makes me furious. This game is just horrible and it is in my trash so the garbage men can brake the stupid game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great game!
This is a great video game why you can change players and their stats, and the introduction at games are just like the original way a basketball game is suppose to be like. It would have been even better if they had the starting lineups just like in NBA 2K2. I reccomend others to play this video game.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!
I love this game alot cuz it looks like you're watching the game. On season mode I thought it was preseason but it wasn't I was VS The Sacrmento Kings and I lost by 6 in overtime so i was 0-1. The only thing I don't like about it is there's no halftime shows. My brother hates this game and he never even played! It's because there's no halftime show but if there were he'd like it alittle! BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Six 3
This game is great, if you like squad based tactics, this is your game. Well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars different from pc version but still fun
ok I cut my teeth with the PC Rainbow Six back in 1999. In the pc version, you have a lot of freedom to choose your team, where they will enter and exit, what they will do once there etc. Naturally this means a lot of pre-planning before you actually start the mission. The PS 2 version of things is definitely geared more towards action and less towards planning and stealth. That's not necessarily bad, but if you are a fan of the PC version of Rogue Spear or Raven Shield, please understand that this game is lot more like Soldier of Fortune - a very linear shooter with the emphasis on action. R6 vets will recognize a lot of the maps - most of them are modified versions of the maps found in Raven Shield.

Still I enjoyed this game. In this game you can do a few things which you can't do (or do easily) in the pc version. For example, using zulu go codes, you can leave your team while you go and do something else. This is especially fun if you want to set up an attack from more than one side of a room. Unfortunately, since the game is very linear and you don't have a map, you don't get to do this a whole lot, and usually you can tell when the map wants you to do it that way (two doors side by side). And since you don't plan stuff out in advance, you can simply back up and retreat if things go wrong. You character can take up to 4 shots in the game - the PC R6 is one shot, one kill unless the enemy is very far away.

It's fun to drop this in for some old school shooter action with realistic weapons and maps. Just don't expect the same experience as the PC version.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game, very challenging.
This is a good game for anyone that wants a tough challenge. They have Split Screen Missions, Campaign Missions and Online Play. They Campaign Missions are great. I have had the game for a while now and I am still not even half way done. The Missions aren't too easy which is the best part. Awesome game!

4-0 out of 5 stars One fun ride...
This is a great first-person shooter from Tom Clancy. The gameplay is fluid and pretty realistic. The squad control is great with stategy being equally important as marksmanship. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good 'ol RB6 time
If you haven't played the earlier Rainbow Six series, here's a brief rundown: you play as a squad commander, outfit your team of counter terrorist specialists with the proper equipment for the mission (for the record: it doesn't matter one bit which guns you pick), then sneak around buildings/jungles/houses/boats, etc. obliterating a bunch of bad guys. Yeah, super original, but the emphasis is definitely on the word "sneak"-if you go in guns blazing the ornery terrorists will quickly dispatch the weak-ass hostages, causing your mission to fail and you to fling your controller against the couch in disgust. By coordinating your movements with your crack team of operatives (they all have different accents, and it's sometimes fun to blast the French guy in the face just because), you'll be able to simultaneously kick in a door on one side of the room while tossing flash-bangs in from another door; then you can simply go about your business, shooting terrorists in the chest while ducking and taking cover. The graphics are nicely rendered, the AI is pretty smart, and it's tons of fun to peek around a corner and rat-a-tat some fool in the neck who doesn't even know you're there, which really reminds me a lot of my regular life. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Platoons
As other first-person shooters, Purple Haze transports players into a violent, simulated world filled with deadly weapons and intense combat. Players can compete in 19 missions or a quick match with goals to kills as many VC as possible.

Though not presenting the best war experience around, Purple Haze's two game types also lack some variation. The AI is competent and can hold its own against an expert player, but once you get used to the control it becomes easy to search and destroy.

When it originally debuted for Windows it focused on one plot line that so dominated the game that other story lines simply didn't matter. Purple Haze revolves around fallout and destruction of the Vietnam War revolving around the dense jungles and deadly and often invisible VC. The game gives political junkies all of the background of the 60's and leading up to these missions as well as three fully licensed original songs from that time. Unfortunately, because the game focused so much attention on graphics, load times seemed long by comparison. As result, you get a realistic simulation of war and entertainment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as everyone says it is
The game isn't terrible. But I am not claiming it is that good either. THe graphics aren't bad, but the aiming scheme and the controls take a long time to get used to. The game play is a little slow. But as everyone already has stated, the worst part is the darn loading times. Those are atrocious. It takes about 4 minutes to load, then you okay the load, and then it takes another 4 minutes to load up the level. If you make a stupid move and die, you gotta wait another 8 minutes to play again. That is what truly stinks abou this game. I hit a hard level, and had to put Madden 2005 back in because I was bored sitting around waiting more than I was actually playing. The music is stupid too because they obviously didn't want to pay for royalties to use the authentic music, so instead you get fake versions of Little Wing by Hendrix, and a few other tunes that are generic rip off's of hits from those times. I wish I had bought ShellShock, however even the reviews for that game stink too. Oh well, for $36 its not worth it but if you can get it for $14 - $20, I say it might be worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pass on this WarGame
I've played a lot of WarGames from WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Gulf War, but this by & large is the worst outta any war game. This game just pitful, the load times are a joke. It takes forever to just to load one mission & if you die in that mission, guess what? It takes even longer to reload the mission again, unlike other games where as when the level starts and if you die it'll just automatically re-load in seconds, like Shellshock Nam '67 for instince, not this game. VietCong Purple Haze, yea I can tell the developers of this game were a Purple Haze when they were making this game listening to Hendrix on the sound system smokin' a bong. If you all want to try this game, be my guest, but you'll agree when you're done playing how big of a waste it was of your time & money. I'm grateful I only rented it, and if you got half a brain you won't even think about owning this game. Avoid, seriously avoid VietCong: Purple Haze.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy Shellshock instead
I have always been a huge fan of Vietnam War movies and an even bigger fan of war-themed video games. So I was pretty pumped when I saw that there was going to be a first person shooter for my PS2 called "Vietcong."Unfortunately I was pretty dissappointed when I played it.To put it simply, this was one of the worst games EVER.The graphics look like a PSOne game, and the sound is worse than an old Sega Genesis game.I don't have a good PC, so I have never been up to date on PC games, but I get the feeling that Vietcong was simply ported to the PS2 from a five year old PC game. This game was an absolute waste of money. If you are looking for a quality Vietnam War game, don't buy this one.I highly recommend "Shellshock: 'Nam '67," it was amazing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nascar Thunder 2004 Review
Most people view Nascar 2005: Chase for the Cup as the greatest Nascar game released. I do not feel this way. Ever since I played "Thunder 2004" for the first time, I loved it. One day, I rented Nascar 2005 and I also had Nascar Thunder 2004. I played both for 2 hours and evaluated both. Thunder may be outdated, but it is much more fun than Chase for the Cup. There are special fantasy tracks and if you have ever dreamed about racing as "Tony Stewart" around the infamous "Daytona Beach" of when Nascar started, then this is for you. It even has a create-a-car feature which you can create your own car and race it to Nascar Domination! The music and sound quality are top-notch, the car graphics and paint schemes are wonderful, and the interior shot rules!I give this game A+, but Nascar 2005: Chase for The cup only receives a D+ from me.

2-0 out of 5 stars So many glitches, it hurts
Nascar Thunder 2004 PC version

Overall, I like the concepts this game tried to bring in. But there are SO MANY SCREW UPs, that I can rarely get through a race. So I have made a list....

1. Viewing Replays during a Race
- If you view a replay during a race, and you exit the replay while the part you are replaying is a previous pit stop, you come out of the replay on the track, wherever you stopped racing to start your replay, then suddenly, it says "Black Flag - Speeding down pit road". Even though you were just reviewing a pit stop, it saw your speed when you went back to the race and busts you.

2. Auto Caution Laps Driving
- If you enable this function, prepare to get upset. If you pit and the field gets the one to go while your pitting, you will exit the pit lane and go only about 90mph. At tracks like michigan, daytona etc. This is no where near enough to catch up with the end of the field and you start at the green a 1/2 a lap down.

3. Driving too slowly penalty
- This penalty happens sometimes so quickly that you dont have a chance. You get ahead of a car you are supposed to be behind and the computer tells you. You wait for it, he blows by, then you get the Driving to slowly warning. At some tracks you about have to wreck yourself to not get black flagged.

4. Ahead of a car your supposed to be following penalty
- I have had several instances where I am behind the car I am supposed to be following, and on the correct lap, and it still tells me to get behind that car. The green flag waves, I get black flagged.

5. Caution Laps
- 1 mile tracks and up... way too many caution laps.
- Shorts Tracks.. not enough. If you are in the middle to back of the pack at martinsville, and you try to pit. By the time you get in the pit, they get the 1 to go and by the time you are on your way out, the green had dropped.

Bottom line is...
This game has a lot of fun stuff on it... but if you really want to do a career mode seriously.. it will drive you insane.
EA Sports has not yet been able to produce a Nascar game that is even in the same league as Papyrus Nascar Racing Season 2003. With that series of games gone now... I look to EA Sports and I am thoroughly disapointed. I Hear that there are big changes for the PC version of Nascar Thunder 2005. I can only Hope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
It's very hard to pass the leader on restrictor plate tracks (realistic as it is) so sometimes you make contact with them and it's a sure thing that you're going to get turned around as you come off turn 4 by that person. I still rate it a 5.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME but needs improvment
This game is awsome. it has improved carrer mode, more lightning chalenges and much more. but another new feature the grudes and aliencs feature is really dumb say if you hit someone they hit you back but when they do they slam you which is very unrealistic. overall BUY THIS GAME!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game I Daresay
Ah, I must admit, I'm 14, but I didn't really feel like going through the sign up just to review one game thing, since I ain't got any things to buy anythin' with, so ignore my age in the box.

Anyways, I give this game 5 stars. On a previous read review, something like this was said. "You can't spin out unless you turn your car to the loose side." Well, actually, it's very easy to spin out, I've done it with 1.5 Wedge. Only problem is, you cannot spin out in Career mode, since being sideways brings out a caution, (which I do a lot to help me). Also, on another previous read review, if you break your engine doing donuts, you're stupid. No offense meant. To many who read this and are confused on how to do a donut, go into practice anywhere, 'Dega is best to practice on, just hold the break down, then hold down accellerator, wait 5 seconds, then let break go. And just release and press again on the accell after every two spins, it's just that easy.

And yes, Career mode is challenging, but for anyone who wants to have some fun, have on your first year, the AI as rookie, and the race length as 25%, and 6, or even better, 9 races away from the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Super Speedway, if you are 9 races away, sell one body, one chassis, and one engine, and start building. But do from atleast 6. And if you're as good as me, you'll have minimal damage after the race, and a top 20 ATLEAST! (In my second year, I WON the EA Sports 500 just by pitting right, and a whole lotta prayer, but please, do not repeat what I did after the race. I grabbed a bottle of Rootbeer, ran outside, shook it up, and sprayed all over. I was just that excited ^.^) But yeah, have fun with that.

Sorry for turning this from a review to a help, but I'll bet this helped a lot of you people ^.-, plus Kansas Motor Speedway is after 'Dega, and I am Greatest at Kansas, no matter what condition my things are in.

So, overall, I think the only thing that needs improv....actually, I don't think anything needs improvment. Actually, to all you Nascar Fanatics out there, We CANNOT buy another Nascar game after this. New game = All that new points crap, and.....no.....No Rockingham! *Sniffle* It's just wrong to not have Rockingham on the list. Don't y'all agree? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excels at both arcade style and realistic style baseball
This game that has something for everyone. On the fun side, it has plenty of extreme moves run-of-the-mill baseball games lack, like larger than life catches, baserunning, and pitching. But, you can also play in realistic mode, where it plays more like a usual baseball game, but it has an extensive baseball simulation that tops even the straight sim type baseball games, with things like, ticker scores scrolling onscreenn while you are online of the current mlb games going on and the full range of team managing including minor league signs, team stealing percentages, etc.finally you dont have to buy 2 baseball games anymore, slugfest has the best fun baseball game as well as the best realistic one out this year, all in one game. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Better then UFC 1 but still lacks
This games cool. My friends cousin is in the game. (Pete William) The graphics are pretty good. The modes are better then the first one. But my compaint is the same as the first one. Matches end way to quickly. I want more of a stragetic sim game engine involved. Why don't ground battles last 10 minutes or longer? It still feels like a button masher game. The moves are hard to pull off. The create a character mode is way too shallow. The games cool for a while but lacks replay value unless your fighting another live person..

5-0 out of 5 stars Realistic Fighting
This is my favorite fighting game I have played. It combines striking with wrestling, letting you beat an opponent if you are skilled enough, even when you are about to get knocked out. Every fighter has his own patented moves and style, adding to the diversity of the game. My friends and I never get tired of the bone crunching hits and submissions. Unlocking new moves and fighters keeps things interesting while playing solo. If you want the most realistic way of beating people - without actually doing it, get UFC throwdown.

4-0 out of 5 stars UFC Throwdown
Great game for UFC fan's. I love UFC, so I loved the game. But where are the legends of MMA, where's Ken Shamrock,R Gracie, Tank Abbott, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game for UFC fans
This is a fantastic game for UFC and MMA fans in general. You can do your own version of some of the great UFC battles of all time, like the incredible Frank Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz fight or Jens Pulver vs. BJ Penn, or have some fantasy matchups you wish you could have seen, like Vitor Belfort vs Ortiz or Shamrock.

My only complaint is that knockouts can come a little fast if you are playing the computer, or if two beginners are playing. If two skilled and practiced players are going against each other, the attacks and counters can truly become almost a sort of chess match.Against the computer or someone new to the game, you can score a knockout in 10 to 20 seconds, against other skilled players, I've had fights actually go to decision.

Another great item is some of the signature moves the fighters have that you can aquire after a while.

For beginners who just get this game and want to develop a feel for it, I recommend selecting either Frank Shamrock or Tito Ortiz. They are the best in the game, and in my opinion the best in real life, and the easiest to learn with, particularly if you are trying to figure out how to put together combinations.

After reading most of the complaints on here, it seems like it mostly comes from video game fanboys who have no appreciation for reality fighting and the UFC.They seem upset that it isn't a clone of every other fighting game out there.Big deal!I can get the standard fighting game by selecting something else.I wanted this because it's realistic. You won't find your characters jumping ten feet into the air and launching balls of energy at their opponents. If you want that, go get the new Mortal Kombat or something.

3-0 out of 5 stars You decide
UFC Throwdown is a decent game. Not really much more to say than that. You either like it or hate it. Graphically, it's pretty basic and sometimes during truly intense match-ups, choppy. Realism is very good. Length of the average match, about 20 seconds. Again, you should rent this if anything else first because I'm sorry but no one deserves a ($) hole in their wallet. Have fun and Happy Gaming! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Another flawed game engine.......
Another solid game until you find the weakness with the game engine, if your drag bunt with any runner with speed 80 pts or higher you will reach safely 80+% of the time. Chone Figgins was hitting over .800 50 games into the season for my expansion team as a all bunting lead off man, and you can do it with runners on, bases loaded, and you can even steal home at a 50% clip too. You can ignore this if you decide never to bunt or try to steal home but once you know this its hard to enjoy the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BASEBALL GAME EVER
ASB/05 in my book is the best game ever. Have played it for hours it's just hard to put down once started. I'm in a EXPANISON/FRANCHISE season. I Made an EXPANSION team " North Dakota Fury" (even though I'm from Texas) Right now my record is 16 - 13 and I find that being real, the CPU is treating it like an EXPANISON team as it is I mean lets face it a team that is just made couldn't and shouldn't go from the worse to the best in the first season. To me that is just reality from being the real thing.
2 things do find error in this game but nothing to major (1) it does seem to freeze more then maybe other baseball games do. Out of the many hours days and months I have played this game it's froze 3 maybe 4 times (Not to majar.) In a game with TB just had got it tied 7 to 7 in the 7th and it froze ( was not a happy guy BUT I lived )(2) Wish it had the speed of the pitch when the ball is hit, have seen no baseball game with this on it but then again this is just a little thing sure we all will live without the speed of the pitch that is hit... All in all I do give this game a 5 starit's fun, it's real and it's only 15 bucks I mean go for it you WON'T be sorry at all to give 15 bucks for this GREAT game...

4-0 out of 5 stars ASB05 Rules!
This Game Rules!!! Its quite possibly the best baseball game out there. Buy this game and you'll be able 2 play a awesome season mode

4-0 out of 5 stars good
It's good. The overall rating of the game is good. Altough a very good game it's minor leagues is very disturbing, because it doesn't have the right roster. And the game does not have Barry Bonds. It is also very difficult to trade players.

4-0 out of 5 stars great!
In my opinion this is one of the best baseball games out there. The graphics are great and the special features like TWIB challanges and home-run derbys are nice. But the game quality is bad. Sometimes the frames will move really slow and cause you to mess up a play. And the thing that bothers me the most is that the game freezes a lot, even though the disk is almost brand new and has no scratches.(It only freezes when its loading back to the main menu after you have won or lost the game, hopefully won.)So if you're planning to get this game you better have a lot of patience. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Legacy Mode Is Maddening!
Graphics are alright. Gameplay is smooth, not counting the overabundance of cutaway scenes. And the commentators were surprisingly good.

I thought I would remark on Legacy Mode, seeing as how that's what separates this game from competitors. It's a great idea, but I felt it failed ultimately. I'm sure the payoff comes from playing the game through several seasons and building your team, but who would want to invest that much time, given the initial frustrations?

I'm no gamer, but I'm no slouch either. (Example = just finished taking a mediocre Missouri team to an 11-1 finish on NCAA 2002.) In this game, you have a limited selection of small schools on which to build your "legacy." (I chose Long Island.) First off, the recruiting element isn't "fun," it's just a bunch of micromanagement. And the games ... wow, just wow. Like I said, I'm no slouch, but what fun is it to scrape by a crappy Wagner team and then get shot out of the bulding by Lehigh? Missed layup after missed layup, while the opponent is banking in long, contested shots? I actually threw my controller at the TV at one point.

Like I said, with a mammoth investment, you can bring your team to glory as you recruit H.S. players and build your team. But for the more casual gamer, maybe stick to "Quick Game" mode if you value your blood pressure.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
I can't give this game a 5 because every time you get a ball blocked they say it's out on you, they have the names all wrong so just use numbers, the announcers are so annoying and always say the same things, and you get called for reaching in way to many times. The goods things are they got the right places in the NCAA Tourny, you got the campus store where yoou can buy jerseys and arenas, and it's like you are actually watching the game on ESPN. So overall a good game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better
This is ESPN 2K5. Sofar after NFL 2K5, the games in the 2k5 series have started to decline and get worse. This game is above average though.

Pros: Looks more realistic with numbers (for once). Good graphics. Good announcers. Good schedules.

Cons: Players names are incorrect. Free throws are hard. Don't get role of the hoop all the time.

Overall: This game did pretty well and I am looking foward to next year's game.

Final Rating: 4.25/5

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, the best basketball game I've played!
I asked for the game for Christmas 2004 simply because of the price. What I got was a game I cannot stop playing, over two months later. The gameplay is fun, yet quite challenging. You have the ability to customize your schedule each season, and with over 300 teams, there are plenty to choose from.My favoriteoption has been to take a team, and change the conference it plays in.For instance, I chose my alma mater - SMU Mustangs, and can't stand that they play in the WAC.So, in ESPN 2K5, I was able to move SMU into the Big 12 (and place Baylor into the WAC).

The recruiting system was a little daunting at first, especially since it's year-round.It was hard enough to focus on playing games during a season, let alone worrying about Recruiting.Thankfully, you have an option to have the computer assist you at times, but I found that you get better players when you multi-task the two activities.By the time you play your second season, recruiting should be a fun and interesting aspect of your game.

Finally, the gameplay is terrific, and very much like a simulation of real basketball. There are teams that I beat badly, but the Top-Ranked teams play great basketball, and the AI of the opponents is good. The only issue I have the game is repetitive announcers, but I think they sound great as a whole.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best College Basketball Game that I have EVER played
This is the best ever college basketball game. The graphics are outstanding and the gameplay itself is so realistic. The college students say actual chants that are used at games, the atmosphere is nearly identical to watching a college game and the commentary is first rate. Heck, this game is so realistic every school has it's own real fight song! It even has names programed into the game. If you type in a players real name (there are only numbers because they ran out of memory) the anouncers acctually say it and so does the PA announcer. You can even create your own school and stadium. There are lots of things you can do. You can choose from 7 different stadium templates according to the size you want. Then you can paint the floor and lane any color you want. Heck, you can even comtomize the basket itself! I recommend this game to all fans of college basketball. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the best shooter of all time
this game is one of my favorite games, i cant stop playing it. Even though i dont have online play the single player is still fun, i deffinately recomend this, and socom 2, even if you dont have online

4-0 out of 5 stars not my favorite genre but hey, i finished this one
..maybe its because i ahd more time to finsh socom one..but i never finished the second one and dont plan to...but this one i did

5-0 out of 5 stars a very realistic and good game
SOCOM us navy seals is a very realistic game. For exsample: When you shoot, the guards nodice you and when you getbehind a wall the guards don't nodice you. I think you should buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars the shiznit
socom is one of the most intelligant games of the century. This franchise is going to go very far in life. This game is great but needs to be a two player game. And more blood geez for the type of game it is its perfect but needs blood.

1-0 out of 5 stars worst "squad commanding" game ever...
i'm a big fan of military and FPS (well this one is 3rd person, anyway) games. this is the worst squad game i've ever played. your teammates do not react as a real human would: they stand and try to shoot ennemies in plain sight, a group of ennemies appear and your teammates do not even go to find a spot to hide, way too many bugs, your teammates shoot but they do not dudge ennemies bullets (what is that wall next to u for?!). an enemy throws a grenade and your teammate do not even jump out from the area or throw back the grenade to the enemy, etc.

they might walk like commandos/spec ops, shoot precisely like commandos/spec ops, but they do not respond at all like commandos/spec ops: i approach an entrance and these guys do not even get to hide on both side before the entrance nor a guy is watching my back. i go inside a building, these guys do not even follow me in line. u call that teamwork?

this game is only good in multiplayer.

not even worth a star. not even worth to buy.

go for Star Wars Republic commando. now that's what i call a squad that respond according to the situation with real military procedures. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally 989 sports comes out with awsome game!!
This game rules! This game is a combanation of NHL Hitz Pro, and ESPN NHL 2k5. The intense hitting is like NHL Hitz Pro, and the gamplay is like ESPN NHL 2k5. They didn't copy of them but combained their features into one awsome game! See i have both Gretzky NHL 2005, and ESPN NHL 2k5, they are both good, but i think that i like Gretzky NHL 2005. It might be more money then the ESPN games, but still, for $35, it is worth it! Once you get this game you will love it instantly!

2-0 out of 5 stars Choose another hockey game instead
As much as I wanted to really like this game, I just can't.Although we own NHL Hitz and NHL 2004, the primary reason we bought this game is because it allows you to create a player and, with the Eye Toy camera for PlayStation 2, put your very own face on it.That's the idea, anyway. In reality the player looked no more like my son or me than did any of the actual HNL players built into the game. So, in the end it is a feature with no actual benefit.Maybe that's because of poor product design or maybe it's the result of the limitations of the camera, but either way the game is not worth buying because the hockey action is so far behind the competing games. The graphics pale in comparison to either of the other games I mentioned, and the gameplay itself just isn't as fun or as realistic.Gretzky 2005 sounds great, but unfortunately isn't.

4-0 out of 5 stars Starting to grow on me.
I'll admit that when I first picked up this game I wasn't really impressed. I'm accustomed to the ESPN and EA Sports games. To be honest with you I wanted to kill Gretzky at first for making me feel I've wasted forty bucks.

I didn't wanna come on here and trash Gretzky 2005 right away though. I decided to give the game a bit of time. Now alot of you (like me) might be used to the really fast paced hockey games. Though fast paced is fun it's also not very realistic. Don't get me wrong it's cool to body check a guy and send him flying 15 feet across the ice. It's also cool to press a speed burst button and have the speed of Guy LaFleur X 10. The only thing is that isn't real hockey.

Though Gretzky 2005 may be lacking in some of the behind the game details and options, compared to it's competitors it's gameplay is a hell of alot more realistic. One of the downfalls of this is that Gretzky 2005 may not appeal much to non-hockey fans who aren't really concearned with realism. For those of you who don't care that's cool too. For those of you who can appreciate something like that I suggest giving Gretzky 2005 a try. **RENT BEFORE YOU BUY**

There are a couple of things I don't like about Gretzky 2005 though. The controls cannot be modified to your own liking. You have no choice but to get used to it, but it won't take that long anyway. Also there aren't as many camera angle choices as compared to it's competitors. For me that wasn't really a huge issue cause it does have the traditional camera angle I am used to. I will warn that there is no "brodcast" angle as in the other hockey games. I personally don't really like the "brodcast" angle but I know some people are accustomed to it.

I give this game 4 stars. My advice ***RENT BEFORE YOU BUY***. Gretzky 2005 is not for everybody. It will be interesting to see what future versions will be like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever!
989 Sports have been making some really good video gaes lately and from what I have heard and seen it seems like this one is going to be the best. The online mode is going to rock the house with some awesome tournament play and headset chat. Hope to see you guys online!

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a clue
For the other two reviews prior to mine.... There was NO 2004!! This used to be NHL Faceoff put out by 989 sports... they didnt make an edition last year, because says were horrible in previous years. If you want a high priced game thats not worth the money...buy this one. If you want to get your money's worth stick with EA or ESPN NHL. But good luck 989, but it has been how many years since Wayne took the ice? Look for OJ Simpson football next fall.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Fun
OK! This game does not look the best, but its very fun and controls great. And the online play is awesome! Played for hours and never got tired of it. All the online maps are great. I wish this came with a map editor like Timesplitters did. I bought this game new for only $14.99 and its worth every penny. Now if it was a $50 game then no I would not get it. I never pay $50 for a game anyway. Yes the Xbox Serious Sam 1 looks much better, but it did not have online play. So I don't now whats up with all the bad reviews. It seems to me that most games that cost $20 and below most people hate and think they suck. But I have bought tons of cheap games and just loved them. Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is another $14.99 game thats great. To bad that game does not have online play. Then it would have been awesome. Anyway, if you have a couple games you don't play anymore then trade them in for this game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good game, but a tribute to good games 10 years ago
As a certain gaming magazine put it, "This is not a good game, but a tribute to games that were good 10 years ago." Well put.

This game, at best is a weak diversion of your attention until you find something better. There is nothing in this game that actually requires skill. Tons of enemies spawn every time you grab an item, powerup, or weapon, in every room, and when you finish killing the enemies that had spawned seconds ago. The problem is, the enemies are not diverse, not detailed, and stupid. They run at you, and you shoot. Thats it. Thats the whole game. Nothing else, except maybe some simplistic trial and error platforming every few levels. But that doesn't make a game, whether you pay $20 or $5 for it.

Good:
Simplistic, fun to play with another person in co-op just to waste some time, can entertain your younger siblings, and the game doesn't jump out and attack you...

Bad:
Horrible graphics for this day and age, horrible enemy AI, little variaty, bland levels, enemies, and powerups, requires no skill. The multiplayer is also horrible, and single player mode is just as bad: you go from room to room killing endless enemies by holding the trigger and spinging around in a circle, then run into a key (oh so well placed in the middle of the room with a giant arrow above it) and run to the next room to put the key into the sparkling hole. Animation in this game is a joke, so are cutscenes, and voice acting.

There are certainly games worse then this, but not by much. I recommend Red Faction 2 for a much better experiance, or even Halo, both worth whatever you pay for.

5-0 out of 5 stars WAY COOL!
This game rocks! you need to buy it!The best mult. player in town!
And it is only 19.99!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worthy title, budget price makes it all the better
If you have twenty bucks and you want to kill an afternoon, look no further than Serious Sam: The Next Encounter. The variety of guns gives you plenty of choices for how you'd like to annihilate the swarms of enemies coming at you from everywhere.I especially like the co-op multiplayer, and also the silly characters you can play as.Most of the enemies die in one or two shots, but the sheer number of them makes the gameplay fast-paced and intense. It's no Halo-killer, but it's definitely a good addition to your game library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this one!
What a disappointment this game turned out to be. I have read various reviews in various magazines and formed the opinion that serious Sam next encounter would be alright. Some magazines rated it 4 out of 10 while others went as far as to give this game 7 out of 10. The reality is, I would score this game about 2.5 out of 10. Sam is very limited in what he can do, it really is all about shooting and little else. The graphics are among the lowest quality I have seen. I cannot image anyone buying this and being happy with it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good 'ol street football with the NFL license
Taking their successful "street" formula from their smash NBA Street series, EA Sports' first foray into street style NFL football may be flawed, but it's definitely fun.Featuring all the NFL teams, each with a roster featuring a handful of players that play both offense and defense, NFL Street has similarities to Midway's NFL Blitz, but this is definitely more enjoyable. While there are some glaring omissions on team rosters (where are players like Lavar Arrington and John Runyan?), the NFL stars one would expect are here, playing both sides of the ball. The controls are amazingly simple, while the trash talk is also about as one would expect. The graphics are decent, with the various fields looking great, but the player models look very much alike. This isn't such a drawback, but some more variety would have been nice (it's amazing how much Peyton Manning and Brad Johnson look alike here).Stopping the opposing team from scoring isn't easy to do at all, as the game's are high scoring (depending on what you set the touchdown meter to) which can be a drawback as well, but despite all that, NFL Street is still pure fun.All in all, if you've never played NFL Street and you're craving some smash mouth football action, look no further.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good game to play with some buddies
When I have a couple of friends over, we always bust out NFL street. You can pick teams like you would at recess at school but with NFL players. The same players play on offense and defense so you could choose all defensive players and rock them on defense, unfortunately you won't get very far on offense.

Graphics are decent. It's nothing to complain about but nothing to freak out over either. All of the players are oversized to give the game a NFL Blitz kind of feel (but I think it's better than blitz)

Sound is kind of bad. The players yell ghettoish insults at eachother that are really dumb ie "You're gonna do my laundry!" They don't do it often but I always crack up at how corny it is when I hear it.

Challenge is pretty difficult but don't give up! The idea is that you start from scratch with blank players (0 points in everything) and earn points through challenges so they can become good. I do the fantasy team and use all of my points on two or three players (make sure I get a QB and Wideout). Then I can start stealing players from other teams when I beat them.

This is a good game to play with friends and you can get some fun out of it playing by yourself too, and it's only like 20 dollars now.

5-0 out of 5 stars So totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got the game and it is awesome. It has hard hitting tackles. The whole game is awesome. The only thing that sucks about it is that the challenge is so freakin hard

5-0 out of 5 stars he could go all the way. 6 more points for the good guys
Ian Royak #19

NFL STREET. prepare for a no mercy game. Man it is going to be a long day for the other team. dudes and dudettes. if you like footbal this is your kind of game. but the main thing that is awesome about this game is you play w/o all the pading but that is how we would like to play isn't itt. well i already play that way only w/o any pads what so ever. thank you for listening. Royak........... OUT!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth 4 Stars, not a 5
Well... This is no doubt a nice game.Good graphics, running plays are unstoppable with Marshall Faulk.Once you get Terell Owens open, woosh and pow!The ball is being carried into the endzone.Defense... the dreaded word.

Defense is really hard to use in this game.I was playing with the all time classics.Lawrence Taylor came flying at the offense.Thinking he was going to take his head off, the game sort of skipped and he was standing there struggling with the RB.Let me make that clear FLYING to STRUGGLING!The thing that made it worse was that the man had got pass Lawrence Taylor (sort of impossible if you think about it) and got a TD!

Offense is wonderful! My RB just rips through the D and goes in for the TD.Very few times do I fumble it though.Passing plays are also nice in this game. For example the Hitch and Go.The ball is snapped to the QB.Set up Terell Owens for it and you have a nice 60-80 play (I'm guessing.).One thing though.Walter Payton is running at the speed of light, wildin and stylin. All of a sudden here comes Chubby McChubby and he tackles Payton. For the computer its easy like Sunday morning!I don't know why, but a fat guy somehow gets up the field?I don't think so.

Gamebreakers are the key to winning.I must admit, it's impossible, but I suck at defensive gamebreakers!Offensive Gamebreakers are only useful for scrubs who can't play good running plays.Like I said, Gamebreakers will be useful.

NFL Challenge is hard!Personally, I pick a custom roster and build them up myself. There are other choices for your fantasy team: Pass Defense, Pass Offense, Rush Defense, Rush Offense, or a Balanced team.Either way you pick, your team is sure to suck. Its not impossible, just hard.Challenges get you development points to make your team unsuck (if thats a word).Tokens are used to take these challenges.Once in a while, if you get enough tokens you can take a challenge, and if you win, you can take a player from a professional team and put him on your team. The Ladder Mode in NFL Challenge is pretty hard in the beginning, but it will all work out...

In conclusion this is a 4 star game.If you want a hard hitting game, buy this and be sure to get your D up.Remember, there's no I in TEAM, and there's no D in NFL Street.

Merry Christmas guys!

2-0 out of 5 stars this game sucks vs. computer
i have it for the computer not ps2 but it sucks if you play against the computer.the gameplay vs. computer basically goes like this...you either block there shot or it going in.not real at all.you could block 20 shots with one player in this game on a good night.you could block 10 every game.the point guard from there team could be rated low and dominate a game.this game is garbage but the only reason i gave it 2 stars is cuz it has good moves and realistic looking moves.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun arcade game, but very weak overall
If you want a simple arcade basketball game, you'll be happy with NBA Live 2003.However, serious gamers should avoid this game like the plague. The serious negatives include:
1.There is no way to play D.Occasionaly you can take a charge, but blocking a drive to the hoop is way too hard, stopping a drive is near impossible.
2.Fast Breaks are available on every play.Again this is totally unrealistic
3.Your players never get tired. No need to sub.
4.In Franchise mode, even if you win, your players always want out.I've played multiple sims with a variety of teams and keeping your stars (or attracting new ones) is very difficult.

Overall, this game is so unrealistic I'd avoid even renting the thing. If you want just a fast-break, coast to coast, arcade game though, you'll be satisfied.

4-0 out of 5 stars An addictive game but needs improving
I got excited when the game came came out and when i got it, it was the only game i played for the next 3 weeks. Then, i got bored with it. I realized the game needed improving. If an all star with good shooting skills is wide open and he shoots, he will miss. But, a poor shooter goes for the three with 2 or 3 men in his face, he makes it. Strange. what also needs improving is the less fouls. Really, i run up a guy, and he doesn't lay finger on the ball handler, but commits a foul. I don't get that, and it's really annoying. Clearly this game needs work. Since nba live 2004 came out and it is marvelous, i hope the same for nba live 2005.

4-0 out of 5 stars ridiculous problems
Problems:
1. Any time you get like a 10-point lead, your team will now miss every dunk and lay-up until the CPU evens the score. This is not an exaggeration.I am completely serious.Strangely, however, sometimes you'll start a franchise team that will never have this problem. But I'd say 4 out of 5 will have the dunk/lay-up problem.

2. Any CPU point guard with a 3-point icon will be the leading scorer for the CPU team, draining threes with people in his face every time, against set defenses. If you play the Lakers, for example, Shaq won't miss, but will only end up with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting, while Derek Fisher will end up with 33 on 11-for-20 three-point shooting.

3. If you have a lead in the last minute, the CPU will hit every three-pointer anyone but the worst shooter puts up, and will steal the ball from you most times, but, oddly, will not intentionally foul.

4. Nobody gets open on the inbounds plays, and half of your team will be off-screen.

5. No good player will resign with your franchise after a season if their contract is up, even if you win it all. They will, however, settle for a one-year contract for minimum pay with a crappy team. All the superstars end up with such contracts, but you do not have the option to negotiate prices and cannot sign superstars, who demand full price from you.

6. Most rookies the game generates will be given a sub-par field-goal shooting ability, but an above-average three-point shooting ability. In other words, can't hit from 15 feet, but can hit from 25.

There are other problems that make you think the development team was on crack when they made it, but, as one of the great mysteries of the universe, this game is still very fun and addictive to play. Why, God, why?

3-0 out of 5 stars This Game Is Good, But Not Good Enough
Ok so I was crazy about this game when it came out, then I bought it and it was a great game. but after a while the game comes repetitive, Such as if you do a season on a hard skill level your oppenent has great speed and they will score every time you miss a shot on the fast Break. Also when you are on a fastbreak the oppenent will block you off with there amazing speed. Also if you're playing and you start to get careless in the game(and believe me you will get careless} they will take total advantage of you. Also the oppenent will score at will every time even if its Shawn Bradely driving to the whole. And if youre trying to cross them to the hole they will block you off and you will get called with the Charge. Overall it is not that good of a game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A game worth trying
Ok here are several thumbs up for the game.First of all, the game on Playstation is much easier to navigate (i.e. controls) in comparison to the PC version.I found that using the regular PS2 controls made things a heck of a lot easier for me to move around and go places.Second of all, the game IS played on PS2 in comparison to the PC version, that means you do not have to take up a lot of space on harddrive, which would happen with all the expansion packs and info you get with EQ PC version (at least in my opinion, after playing both).Third, while there is a need to form a group, the PS2 game world is less crowded than the PC version. Thus you aren't stepping on anyone's toes when going out and trying to find XP points.

Draw backs:ok first of all you do need a group, and finding one can be a problem but if you look up on the internet you can find many guilds for EQ (along with going to the main Sony EQOA boards) and you can post a need to find ones suitable for your tastes.second of all, yes it might, and I say might, cost a lot of money in that youre buying internet hookups, keyboards, et al. for your PS2.

However...you can find an easier way to get the equipment for the game. You can look for ads in the paper, but you can also go to places like Ebay and purchase the products (like I did) relatively cheep...you dont have to spend hundreds of dollars, my whole set up cost maybe 60 dollars over all (w/o the sign up fee of course).

Another thought...yes there is mostly combat to this game, but if you play most games like XIII, BloodRayne, .hack you realize that the games ARE mostly combat.Yes there are storylines, guilds, and environments going on in the background, but really ... its mostly attack and defend ...

All in all this is a much better version than the PC one IMO and I think that if you enjoy fantasy worlds and epics, give it a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the best- I can quit any time I want...
EQOA is a breath of fresh air in the stale and overcrowded MMORPG genre. There are literally dozens of similar games available for the PC, and the monolithic FFXI for the PS2, but nothing comes close to this masterpiece.

Rather than make the mistake of FFXI and try (unsuccessfully) to build a clone of a PC MMORPG, EQOA developed an entirely different engine and interface for the PS2. The result is outstanding- a game that combines the elegant simplicity of the console with all the dynamic content and social interaction of the MMORPG shared world. It's faster paced, easier to learn, and more impressive than any other MMORPG I've seen.

Above all else, though, this game is _dirt cheap_! I was able to get started for under $20, including all of the hardware I needed. There is no better gateway drug to draw you into the MMORPG addiction.

How to do it that cheap? It's easy to find this game new for a measly 10 bucks, and you don't need expensive add-ons. The PS2 works fine with any usb keyboard- or even one of those $7 adapters that let you use your older model, so there's no need to spend $30 on a "real" PS2 keyboard. The developers for EQOA were able to provide dynamic, updated content _without_ the need for a hard drive, so no money there. Chances are the only thing you'll need is a PS2 network adaptor, and these days you can get one for about 25 bucks. Believe it or not though, I didn't need one! The game works great on my old Linksys usb adaptor- it only took me about 45 seconds to get it set up, no PS2 adaptor required at all for me.

Best of all, the monthly subscription is $10 or less, depending on your plan. So you won't need to resort to prostitution to feed your addiction...

And you WILL be addicted. Of course, you'll be able to quite any time you want. Honest. I know I could... Right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the weak minded
I have had E.O.A. scince the begginig.this game can draw u in to it for hours or untill u pass out.I dont recoomend this game to anyone that dosent enjoy a challenge or enjoys solo missions.even those this game was a remake for the the playstation 2 it still has some problems with loading and attacking but all is fixed if u can scrounge up enough money to get frontiers the expansion.this game isnt just going around killing u need to think carefully create a charecter of the race and class u want and find teamates at ur level.and if u wanna get to to a good lvl fast all u need to do is go powerlvling, thats whene u get a lvl 30 guy to go attack a powerfull monster bring it within an inch of its life and thene u atak it get alot of experience and repeate... So basically go get it and skip on finalfantasy 11 .. IT COSTS 15 DOLLERS A MONTH AND AN EXTRA DOLLER FOR EACH CHARECTER U MAKE but everquest is only 10 and if u dont wanna bother ur parents u can go to ur local gamestop and buy these thing called game card that give u a month instead of using mommy and daddys credit card..... and ummm if u startt playing look for me imKakorie ...and no mi names not from d.b.z. its from zelda u know where link starts out. c ya online fellow gamers

3-0 out of 5 stars Well.....I dont know
First thing - the price. You have to spend around $110-$130 on this game because you need the game which is about 20 dollars. You need the network adapter to play on the internet which is around $40.Then if you want to you can buy a keyboard for it for about $60-$70.You dont need the keyboard but if you didnt have it you rather couldnt talk to anyone or it would take you very long to type something.

Another thing - like most online rpgs.If you couldnt find someone to group with you, you could just go out killing by yourself. In this game its impossible to go killing monsters without a group. One person isnt gonna do either. It takes you about 30 mins to get a full group, all ready to go. Got their health up and potions with them and all.Thats the good thing. When you have a group boy is it fun to go out and attack monsters, but you have to press x around 10-100 times. (it depends how strong the monster is)

If you didnt have a group, and nobody was on to group, then you might as well log out because you will not have much fun.

Waste of money/waste of time. The only way this game would be fun is ifthey lowered the prices on all the items you need a bit and if there were people on constantly!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the best rpg ever!!!
If you haven't played his game you are missing out. This has to be the best rpg game ever!!! It has great graphics and has a ton of people to talk to. If you buy this game join my guild Legion of the Shadows or you can make your own guild thats whats so cool about this game you can battle any creature. If you are good you can keep the creatures as pets. This has to be the best ps2 online game ever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best thing since sliced bread
PS2 is the best system, hands down because all of the games to choose from, but i still say, there is no reason to buy a PS2 unless you get GTA3,Vice City or San Andreas because those games are best games ever invented. PS2 gets a bad rap because they say it doesn't have updated graphics but people only that when praising the stink box and the gaycube. PS2 has the best games like GTA, Manhunt and Max Payne. Just a overall fun system, can u believe it once cost $300.00 and it is such a small item.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of 3
I have often seen people bashing about Xbox and Gamecube but let me tell you one thing . The only thing that is better on Xbox are graphics and speed. NOTHING ELSE. About games Ps2 wins.Like car simulation show me a game which is better than Gran Turismo. Like Shooting games. Show me a game that is better than Metal Gear Solid. The only game which XBOX has got is Halo. But thats it. November 2004 is even going to be for PS2. Why? Metal Gear Solid 3 and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas only coming on PS2 platform. However let me also tell you another thing. If you are above 20, like violence and abusive language get an XBOX. If below 10, like childish games get a Game cube. But if you are between 10 to 20 yrs old, like all types of games, and want to play DVDs on your console, get a PS2. Belive me you wont be sorry. I have 7 yrs of gaming experience

4-0 out of 5 stars Playstation 2 is good, but not GOD!!!
First off let me start by saying, this is NOT going to be a PS2 bashing. Though we all have our opinions on the three systems, the fact is that they are all great systems in their own right. That is to say you won't go wrong no matter which one you choose.

Let me reiterate, this is not a bad system. It has several great games (Final Fantasy X & X2, Grand Theft Auto, WWE Smackdown Series and several others). Though it must be noted that Gamecube and XBox both have great exclusive titles. The graphics are outstanding and they may not even be the best of the three, but they are great, certainly better than anything we had just a few short years ago. They definitely have more benefits than everybody else (free online gaming, the Eyetoy, and more games. As far as controllers go, I like Gamecube's a bit better, but this controller works wonderfully well too and is well laid out. (You won't be searching for the buttons like you do on XBox controllers, that is my one true complaint with that system) Anyway Playstation 2's biggest downfall is in the fragility of the system itself and though I have experienced no problems personally, I have heard of a few from close friends.

1. Disc Reading Error (You've seen this many times, I will comment no further.)

2. Malfunctioning Disc Door (It just stops opening when the button is pressed. You then have to pull it out and push it in manually which can cause it ultimately to break.)

3. The power cords tend to wear out faster than average. (Not a big deal, the cords are fairly cheap, but it could present a fire hazard.)

None of these things would be a huge deal except that the PS2 comes with a measly 90 day warranty (Do I hear 1 year anyone?)

I'm not trying to say this system is junk. It does have durability issues more than anything. I personally prefer Gamecube but only by a small margin. All of you who immaturely spout "PS2 rules, Gamecube & XBox suck" are not only lying to yourselves, you're doing a great disservice to the readers who depend on these reviews to make an important decision.

The bottom line is the Playstation 2 is a great system and definitely worth the money, but it is not gaming perfection as some make it out to be. Try Gamecube & XBox as well. All three are extremely fun!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars PS2 the best overall video game experense of all time
The PS2 is the best, its controller is the best, the games are the best, expecially when it has the biggest game lybrary so far with all the new systems today. If you have a kid who does not know how to play one of thoughs bulky video game controllers from the Xbox or Gamcube, the PS2 is your choice. The PS2 is the best and thats all I got to say about that.

5-0 out of 5 stars PS2 IS THE BEST SYSTEM EVER MADE
PS2 is a great system. For only $149.99 with a free network adaptor, you can't go wrong. You have to buy it! Also if you are looking for a great online game with ur network adaptor, buy SOCOM II: US NAVY SEALs. Great game! The PS2 is simply amazing. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great game, with some flaws but don't let that ruin it
I have read many reviews of games and people seem to let a few flaws dominate in their mind and they give an otherwise decent game a bad review. Is this game perfect? No. Is it good, yes! My roommate and I used to play this game just about every day, and it was so fun.

I picked this game over EA Sports' March Madness for several reasons.
- the gameplay is nicer. It is much more realistic for the most part, than EA's basketball games. You can't just waltz into the paint and dunk it or fire 3s at will like in EA's games. It takes some practice to get used to, but it is a nice simulation of a basketball game.
- It has all the teams! I know many people only care about the big-name teams, but I like the fact that I can play with my alma mater (UC Irvine) and take them to the championship.
- Although the names of the players are not the default setting, you can edit the players and put in the names. They have the first and last names of many players, but obviously not every single player. You can put the names in on your team and the arena announcer will announce the name of the player if you make a shot, which is pretty neat.
- The franchise mode lets you scout players, recruit, increase the difficulty of the team's schedule, etc. It's a neat feature and fun to play.

I love this game, despite some of the drawbacks, but I find them to be insignificant when compared to the crappier product that EA puts out.
- The AI is not too difficult if you play it as much as I have. It is too easy to intercept passes. The computer often passes between the guards and you can just take your guard, roam between their guards, push square, and pick off many passes. The incredible number of turnovers you can get from that makes it much easier to win.
- They did mess up on some of the numbers of players and which players start and come off the bench on the lesser-known teams, but it's not that big of a deal. They also don't have correct school names for some of the mid and low major schools, but that is most likely a licensing issue, and again, is not a big deal.
- There are too many offensive rebounds, and the offense is sometimes called for goaltending when going for a rebound. Furthermore I think defensive goaltending is called in cases when it clearly is not.
- Sometimes with the smaller schools, they have trouble passing, it seems the passes just don't go through enough, and the players from smaller schools miss way too many open layups.
- On the harder difficulty settings, it is rather difficult to shoot 3s with the consistency that they should be made, even with highly rated players.
- When you play a full 65-team tournament, the teams that make it and the seeds they get are unrealistic. Very often, some very crappy schools end up getting high seeds that would be virtually impossible, yet several of them get it each time.
- Unless you drive a lot, there are not enough fouls. The computer rarely fouls you, which makes it less realistic because obviously both teams foul each other.
- It seems that non-centers and PFs cannot buy a bucket when they are in very close to the basket. They miss way too often when they are in close, even if they have an unobstructed shot. Furthermore, only Centers and PFs can do standing dunks. The others need a bit of a running start. The SFs in that game (and even some guards) should be able to do standing dunks (with the one exception noted next)
- In my opinion, Duke is unfair because of guard #5. He can do standing dunks, but because of his smaller size, it very likely that in 35 seconds, you can move him in close enough to go for one. My roommate would annoy me by picking Duke and literally score almost all of his points this way.

I didn't mean to be picky with these things I noted, and I won't let them get in the way of what I feel is a fun and quality basketball game. It is not perfect, but it is the best college basketball game there is. It is definitely more realistic, and thus in my opinion much better than March Madness.

People complain about the free throws, but they just don't have the patience or the skill to do them.WIth practice, it is not that difficult to make about 75-80% of them. You just move both analogs sticks rather quickly towards the center together until they line up over teh basket and press a button (L1 is the easiest). If you dont' line it up, let go and try it again.People that say you cannot make them just haven't had the patience to learn or simmply can't do it.

My preference for playing is setting the camera to press and putting the zoom bar at full so that you get a good view of the court. I hate the default camera because it is difficult to see all your players and the action around the hoop is distant. I like being able to see where all my players and where the other players are.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad But Needs Improvement
Don't know how my review ended up on NBA 2K3's section....but here it is:

***********

After reading all the reviews, I decided to pick up NCAA 2K3 over March Madness 2003. No regrets on the purchase as the game has some solid things going for it:

1. LOTS of teams to pick from so unless you're looking for some obscure team in the middle of nowhere, you can play with any team you want.
2. Graphics are nice and fairly realistic.
3. Plenty of game modes: practice, season, career (open and closed), etc, etc.

Plenty of bad/annoying things have been mentioned before and I'll address some (if not all of them) and add some of my own:

1. The missed inside shots problem. Yeah, it's annoying and I think Sega's gonna have to find a way to fix it. It's ok if a small guy misses the shot, but guys 6'4" to 6'7", even if the aren't great leapers can USE THE BACKBOARD.

2. The passing game needs to be improved. Way too many errant passes thrown and the analog stick passing needs to go away and bring back the "icon passing" feature of NBA 2K2.

3. Stealing passes. Fairly easy to steal a pass, much easier than NBA 2k2. On a press, if you are playing a weaker team, you will end up with tons of steals. However, a better team CAN and will break your press.

Other annoying things

1. Documentation - The docs just did not mention what some of the player rating catergories were. I figured them out after a while, but just surprising it was never mentioned in the docs.

2. Player substitution screen. JUST NOT BIG ENOUGH to see your starters and all your bench players. I have scroll down to see the bench guys and there ratings but lose the starters. Should have stayed with the NBA 2K2 style where you could see ALL of the players at once.

3. The opening screens displaying both teams strengths and weaknesses before the start of a game are nice, the first few times around. But after a while, it's just annoying to have to sit through a few minutes of nothing to get to the game without the option to bypass it.

But all in all, despite the annoyances, still a playable game. It's a keeped but hopefully Sega will update it to make it even better next year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super relistic
This is a complete college basketball game.It has everything: a Legacey mode, awsome recruting, and great game play.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's ok.....i guess
NCAA 2k3 is probably the best college basketball game i have ever played. thats no compliment considering the fact that ive never played a good college game. this game is realistic in the sense that it shows true zones and good defensive stopping power. it is also realistic in terms of shooting percentage (except for freethrows and under the goal shots) and running set offensive plays. the gyms are nice to see and the players are decently created. the legacy mode is fun if you have the time. but the flaws of this game ruin it completly. i have played games with Lehigh and have caused Duke to have 51 turnovers on the hardest difficulty. the cpu uses the same press break every time and you just have to stand in the passing lane and jump. forget about making freethrows and under the goal shots. i dont really know, but the shot timing is off. youre supposed to make a wide open 3 with a 3 point shooter if you let go at the top of the shot, but for some reason i seem to have more accuracy before he gets to the top. all in all, this game isnt so bad as to break and burn every copy ever made, but its definitely not worth your money if youre lookin for a good basketball game. i guess we'll just have to wait for ncaa 2k4.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Missed Opportunities
Ever since I began playing various versions of basketball games, I have awaited the time that one would be marketed where the play would be as close to "real" as I could possibly get.Face it, in most of the other games, it was NEVER a problem for me to score 200 points--using a ridiculously pitiful team. However, when I opened Sega Sports NCAA Basketball 2K3, I thought I might have finally found that game.Obviously, I was wrong.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who cannot hit free throws on this game. Not only do you have to fool with the analogue sticks and try to line up two "lines" that are NEVER going to line up--you also have a deadline to meet in shooting the ball.I've played 10 games and NEVER came close to hitting any free throw. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, you do not dunk--even on an uncontested layup. Also, you now shoot with a different button and I could not find any defense that was man-to-man--ALL zones.

The plusses are (1) I did like the fact that ever college team is listed. That makes for lots of variations on game playing; and (2) the game moves more like a REAL game--I've not come close to scoring 75 points yet.

Overall, however, I was extremely disappointed with this game.I probably will give it to some friends because I've played it all I'm going to. ... Read more
