Amazon.com Product Description

Get maximum sports action with this special PlayStation2 game pack, which includes the new PlayStation2 console (with controller), a Sony 8 MB memory card, and three games (Triple Play Baseball, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001, and NBA Live 2001).

At the heart of the PlayStation2 is the 128-bit Emotion Engine processor, which brings lightning-fast gameplay and unprecedented graphics power to your TV screen. We've packed in three AAA sports titles to get things started.

Triple Play Baseball brings hard-hitting baseball action to life with all the big-league teams, players, and stadiums--even the newly built Miller Park in Milwaukee and PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Players will enjoy the enhanced fielding control with one-button throws and power sensitivity.

The game of golf is as much about feel as it is about power. With the way Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 uses the PlayStation2's analog controller, you'll be better able to fade, draw, or spin your shot. The game also lets you compete with or against Tiger Woods, Justin Leonard, Brad Faxon, Stewart Cink, Mark O'Meara, and several other top PGA Tour pros on accurately rendered pro courses.

NBA Live 2001 adds quite a few new touches to the long-running basketball franchise, including coaches who lose their cool at bad calls and player moves such as turnaround jumpers, drop steps, up-and-under moves, and monster dunks. It also includes some classic teams, such as the '72 Lakers or '86 Celtics, each with its full complement of players from its winning season right down to likenesses and uniforms.

To help you make headway in these games, this bundle also includes a Sony 8 MB memory card.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good System
Ps2 is a good system. It has good games and is really fun.It costs too much!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars I tried and I tried.........................................
and I must bow my head in embarrassment for the PS2. Like every true gamer out there, you have high expectations when something new comes on the market, and I was disappointed when the PS2 came out. I'm not only a game freak, gamer for short, I'm also a movie buff.

When I received my PS2 the first thing I tried out was the DVD player. I was really baffled on why the quality was so [poor] on my TV. I initially thought it was just my TV, so I took it over to my parents, same thing happened. Then as I was driving over to my cousins, I was praying and had my fingers crossed hoping the same thing would not happen, but guess what, it did.

This is when I sent my PS2 back and got another PS2, just in case the first PS2 was a bad one. Nope, the DVD was [poor] in both of them. I don't play the game "3 strikes your out" I play the game "2 strikes your out." My friends, who have regular DVD players, said almost the same thing, "The PS2 DVD player is a DISGUSTINGLY UNPLEASANT sight to see," and worthless if you already have a DVD player.

This is when I got my XBOX, my expectation were not high at all from my previous experiences with the PS2. I got the remote controller for it and gave it a shot. To my surprise, the graphics were well above and beyond what I expected, razor-sharp to be exact, better than most my friends DVD players.

The joys of owning a XBOX just kept piling up. The first joy was the game quality. I played SSX Tricky and Madden 2002 for both consoles. The quality was better for XBOX, by far. Not only that, you can get a system link cable to hook up your XBOX to your buddies XBOX's, the load times are faster (load times was a huge difference when I played SSX Tricky and Madden 2002), and a 8GB Hard Drive, common people, this should give it away that XBOX is better, we all know computer games are the best.

Now I'll trying to pile everything I wrote in a side by side survey with an explanation.

DVD PLAYER - XBOX - Granted you have to buy the remote for it, this makes up for the memory cards you need to buy with the PS2, (hint, hint, you don't memory cards for the XBOX).

GAME QUALITY - XBOX - I'm not just blowing smoke, I have tried the same games for both consoles and have noticed big differences.

PROCESSOR - XBOX - I think this category is a little unfair. Let me see, XBOX's 733MHz Intel Main Processor and 233MHz Graphics Processor or PS2's 128-bit Emotion Engine Processor, hmmm, tough decision.

8GB HARD DRIVE - XBOX - Wait, I think this category is a little unfair also, PS2 doesn't have a hard drive.

CONTROLLERS - XBOX - We all hear rumors that the controllers are too big, key word "rumors." Your hands have to be very small, I mean very small, for the controller to be too big. I have a 6 year old cousin who handles the controller just fine.

MULTIPLAYER - XBOX -You can have up to 4 players on a single XBOX, then you can hook up multiple XBOX's with a system link cable. Lets use the game Halo as an example, you can play with up to 16 players on 4 XBOXs! I also forgot to mention a couple things, you can play over the internet and the best computer game ever will soon be available for the XBOX, UNREAL CHAMPIONSHIP, 32 people will be able to play at once, insane. Coming out in the first or second quarter.

"Infogrames intends to mix the gameplay in Unreal II with the more successful aspects of Unreal Tournament--forging them into a single console-based multiplayer online battle game." - GameSpot.com

FANCY CONSOLE POSITIONING - PS2 - Yes, I give this to the PS2, but who cares if your console can sit vertically or horizontally, isin't it about the games.

Bill Gates became the richest man in the world for one reason, HE IS ALWAYS THINKING AHEAD![...].

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't do much worse
This is a very poorly designed console. The dvd player skips constantly, the system has several bottle necks and several developers have said that it was too definately to program for and have left to program on the much more user and developer friendly microsoft x box and nintendo gamecube. Also there have been several problems with manufacturing that sony still hasn't fixed: out of the five people i know with a ps2, fours stopped working due to hardware defects and some have ruined game disks but sony's customer service charged three of them around a hundred dollars each to have the problems fixed. This console also requires several additional add ons such as an controller slot expander (...) for four player games, amodem (...) for online games, and a harddrive (...) before it can even come close to the features and it still wont have have hdtv support, dolby digital surround sound and graphics capability that the new microsoft xbox offers right out of the box for same price. It has some great games already out but improved versions of them are coming out for the xbox and it can't match the future lineup or graphics of games that xbox and game cube offer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying anymore
Aside from Gran Turismo 3 and Twisted Metal Black, all of Playstation 2's killer franchises are going over to XBOX.Plus, XBOX has a total of 40 1st and 2nd party studios making exclusive games for it, along with massive 3rd party support that eclipses even PS2's support. If you are looking for a console this christmas, look to the XBOX for superior graphics, better DVD playback, high definition gaming, builtin broadband adapter for internet gaming, 4 ports without the need for a multitap, hard drive for saving games instead of memory cards and for storing your own personal game soundtracks on, and realtime DD5.1 all for the same price as a PS2!In other words, the smart buy is XBOX.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid System, Okay Games
Everyone seems to be comparing the Dreamcast with the PS2 and making some legitimate gripes. However, I ask this of people... if the PS2 came out before the Dreamcast, would you be making the same gripes? If the PS2 came out over a year ago, I'm sure they would have the full capabilities that Sega presents and then some. Also, many complain about no internet connection, etc... The PS2 is capable. What Sony has not done is sell the components to make it a realization. It's all a marketing ploy so they can build up hype and sales. Give the PS2 a year, and it will surpass the Dreamcast in gameplay, selection, and capability.
I personally found the PS2 attractive because of its backward compatibility and the ability to play DVD's. I will say that the games are quite good for being such a young system. Also, the DVD playing is sufficient. Although the controls are awkward because you have to use the analog controllers, it still suffices as a DVD player. There is a third party remote, but I don't trust third party equipment. I'll wait for something better. As some have said, the vent is quite loud at times. The hum will be annoying at first esp. if you place it on a hard surface, but it's something you'll get used to.
Should you get the PS2? Yes. Should you get it now? No. The price will definitely go down with time, and it'll be more affordable then. Also, there will be more games later this year. Also, for those who don't have a DVD player, this system will keep you entertained two-fold. If you're going to compare it to the Dreamcast, ask yourself where the PS2 will be in equal time. You can't compare a 5-year-old to a new born and automatically say that the 5-year-old will be smarter in the long run just because it can read and the newborn can't.
5 stars for the system. 3-4 stars for the game. These are okay games for the PS2. EA Sports has produced great sports games, but these fall a little short of their other games like Madden, NCAA Football, SSX, and NBA Street. Now, THAT would be a solid package. The graphics with these games are of course better than anything on the original PS, but there's no dynasty mode or added features that make these games worth playing over and over again. Also, these games are getting a bit dated. (NBA Live 2002 will be out in a few months.) If I were you, I'd hold off on this bundle and just pick up a PS2 and get the games I listed above. ... Amazon.com Product Description

This special game pack includes the PlayStation2 console (with controller), a Sony 8 MB memory card, a six-month trial subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly, and the games NBA Street, Madden NFL 2002, and ESPN X Games: Skateboarding. At the heart of the PlayStation2 is the 128-bit Emotion Engine processor, which brings lightning-fast gameplay and unprecedented graphics power to your TV screen.

NBA Street plays by street rules. Off-the-backboard passes, nasty dunks, and a special momentum meter--which boosts your abilities as you humiliate the competition--let you know you're not playing arena ball. In fact, some of the courts are modeled after real-life basketball training grounds, such as New York's Rucker Park and the Cage.

Madden NFL 2002 comes complete with all 31 NFL teams, as well as legendary teams from years past. The 2002 release of this popular series adds all-new player face and body technology and hundreds of new animations. Its upgraded coach animations heighten the drama on the field, and it's still the only game that lets the coaches roam the sidelines.

Ride as one of eight different pro riders, including Bob Burnquist, in ESPN X Games: Skateboarding. To get the gold, you'll have to prove you can master the same courses used in the 2000 ESPN X Games event in San Francisco. You can grind rails, hit ramps, or go for huge air in an amazing re-creation of the half-pipe from the 2000 games. Succeed at these challenges and you'll unlock secret stages, hidden characters, and special skateboards.

This bundle also includes a video featuring scenes from the PlayStation2 game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Back in 2001 this was a great bargin BUT
Its now 2003...almost 2004 most of the games given with this set value has dropped so much nba street has a value of $9.99....and with the console by itself costing 179$ and here comes with 4 games for 349$ to me is just a rip off....im sorry but amazon you need to lower the price on this item and a few other console packages

5-0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying anymore with Xbox on the market. I'm not a.
I'm not a fanboy

First off, PS2 WAS a good system. Now, most of its hits are going to Xbox. Hits such as Metal Gear Solid 2, Baldur's Gate, Medal of Honor: Frontline, and most of PS2's other big names. The only two games Xbox isn't getting is Grand Theft Auto (Sony bribed the developers to keep it exclusive to PS2, darn them, but it ends in 2004), but you can get it on PC. Final Fantasy? Who needs it? Its good, but it alone isn't worth buying a PS2 for. Xbox has Mechassualt (best Mech game ever, and NOT on the PC), Halo, Dead Or Alive 3, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Blinx (I love that game!), Shenmue 2, Oddworld: Munches Oddyssey, House of the Dead 3, Sega GT 2002, and Panzer Dragoon Orta, some of the best games known to man, as exclusives! Plus, many PS2 games ported to Xbox will have extra content, such as new levels, new extras, etc. Buy an Xbox, and you will be getting the cream of every crop. Buy PS2, and you will be getting the sloppy seconds of many games (like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which will support Xbox Live, but not Sony's online plan). If you want online games, don't even bother with PS2, it will not be the best one out for online games. Several games, including Timesplitters 2, will not include online gameplay, becuase it was to hard for the developers of the game to set up.

So what if PS2 has a bigger library? 80% of those games are not worth buying, while the xbox is seeing a good deal of EXCLUSIVE greats coming in the future. Don't buy PS2. trust me.

Hello, I am updating this reveiw. In the paragraph above, it originally said "better library". I apologize, it was a typ-o.

I have some more things to say. No, the PS2 online is not "free". Many big games, like Final Fantasy XI, will be charging a monthly fee. Also, PS2 online isn't not at all secure, and so you can expect cheaters and hackers running rampant on the servers, like on the Dreamcast. Xbox Live is totally secure,There will be many PS2 online games that will require there own monthly fees. Also, expect little innovation in PS2's future games. All of the big innovative games are coming to Xbox in spades in 2003. Like Fable, Halo 2, Sudeki, Steel Battalion 2, Lamborgini, Crimson Sea, Ninja Gaiden, and others.

So, it all comes down to this: do you want the Xbox, or the over priced Portstation 2? You decide, but I would suggest Xbox if you want the best, most cutting edge games around, Xbox will be the one to get!

1-0 out of 5 stars PS2 could be much better
The PS2 doesn't really have any good games. It has horrible load times and if you want to have more than 2 players you have to buy expensive add-ons. It has no internet capability. Sony is supposed to come out with a Hard Drive(like Xbox) but it will be external, slow and it wont help loads times or graphics like xbox's does. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars pack stinks but whant to make something clear!!
the pack might stink but for all you out there ps2 is better than xbox it has and will all ways..............ps bill gates made it because hes jelous!!! ps2#1!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME !!!
...As a gamer who's owned anything & everything from Atari 2600 to Xbox, I can tell you that it's all a matter of preference. The Sega Genesis was more of a sports-geared machine; Nintendo has always developed their systems with children in mind and a video-game as a toy; Sony is directed towards adult gamers (and believe me, there are a lot of us) as exemplified by the content of their games & multi-media aspect (the PS2 can play DVD's); as for the Xbox, well Bill Gates just wants to take over the world.

This is not to say that the power of a machine doesn't matter folks. The original Sega Master System (SMS) was more powerful than its rival, the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The NES was by far more successful than the SMS! $$$But how did the NES defeat the SMS? The answer lies in the library of games. Multi-million dollar deals are made/broken every single day in the U.S.A; a lot of these within the gaming industry. Developers strike up deals to develop a game for one system but not the others. What does this mean to the consumer? Look at the games & not so much from a graphics point of view. A game can be extremely sophisticated but still remain mediocre overall if the gameplay has not been developed well, in other words: The game will suck if it is not fun.

Always consider your audience & ask a lot of questions: Who am I buying the game system for? Why am I buying this for him/her?? This PS2 pack is geared towards the boxing, if not Sports, aficionado. If you have the extra money to burn for the gloves, then by all means splurge. Otherwise, you are better off buying the system, games & accessories separately elsewhere. With the price drop to $180 on the PS2, there are deals aplenty everywhere you go.

My apologies for starting the review off on such a negative note, but it is upsetting, I am sure you'd agree, to read such ignorant comments.

1-0 out of 5 stars PlayStation 2 Muhammad Ali Pack with Signed Gloves
this is terrible, even it's in one pack, but why they ship them seperately

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
Not better than Xbox, and after November, isn't worth buying
Reviewer: Nuckles87 from Spotsylvania, VA USA

Nice lil console. Depends on your taste though. Personally, I liked it, but as I am more into action games and arcade-esque shooters, I've personally had more fun with the Xbox. Online game-wise, Xbox is by far a better deal, especially when True Fantasy Online, Halo 2, and Steel Battallion: Line of Contact arrives...

But, putting online games aside, PS2 is an awsome deal. Has the best, and most, RPGs of any current console (other than the over bloated Final Fantasy franchise of course). But, like other consoles, PS2 isn't perfect. Buy it if you like platformers, traditional RPGs, or hardcore racers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy A Gamecube
When I first heard of PS2, I thought this would definitely be the system too buy. When I had bought it, I realized all the hype about it was false. I kept chucking the controller down when it took 5 minutes to load Madden 2002. The loading time was outrageously long. Then in late November, when Gamecube had come out, I bought it...SO then when, I had bought Gamecube along with Rouge Leader, which was good, I waited anxiouly for Super Smash Brothers Melee. AND WAS IT GOOD! Nintendo had come out with a game in they're first month with the Gamecube than had PS2 had ever had...Nintendo has way better games than even PS2... And for you people who think Gamecube has kiddie games... like how Nintendo is sticking to Zelda. Well I don't think most "kiddies" can beat Zelda. Gamecube has Metroid Prime, Rouge Spear, Eternal Darkness Sanity's Return, Six Resident Evil Games...in the making and much more still to come out...Gamecube is the system to get and has more third party developers than any other console. Just wait to they get more games out and we'll see who will win the console war. ... Read more
