Editorial Review The standard mission design of previous games in the series remainsintact, giving players complete control over their aircraft as they ziparound in a fully 3-D environment. There are plenty of fun planes tofly this time around, from agile superfighters to lumbering bombers.Their maneuverability has been toned down from previous games in theseries, which makes lining up targets more of a challenge, but itbecomes second nature with a little practice. Don't be intimidated by some of the fancy moves available to thrill-seekingflyers here. After all, what's the worst that can happen whenyou decide to risk a daring loop and roll? The truth is that AceCombat 3 is ultimately more about pyrotechnics and fast action thanabout realistic flight physics. Ace Combat 3 isn't the leap intechnology over its predecessor that we expected, but it's still agreat way to satisfy your urges to fly the unfriendly skies. --T.Byrl Baker Pros: Features Reviews (14)

Editorial Review Players must pick from 11 world rally cars and play for the best timeson 48 courses in 8 countries, including New Zealand, Greece, and theUnited Kingdom. Racers encounter mud, snow, and gravel--all of whichcollects on cars as each race goes on. The elements can also inflictdamage on your vehicle, which adds to the challenge. A British codriver guides players through runs, while the rally schoolcan help beginners with their skills. There's even a two-player optionthat can be used with single rally, championship, and time-trialmodes. Control in this game is great, despite the varying track surfaces andweather conditions, and players even have to manage courses at night.Luckily, gear ratios, tires, brakes, and suspension can be modified tosuit any and all changes. While we won't go as far as to say this gamebeats the classic Gran Turismo, we do believe that McRaeultimately gives GT a run for the money. --Robb Guido Pros: Reviews (6)
Outstanding all the way - even with the sounds of crinkling glass as you slide into the trees. Love every moment of it.

The questions are like that of "Teen Challenge Jeopardy", so the stupifyingly hard ones are left out of this game. Many are word-hint questions with catagories like "Starts and ends with 'L'" and "3-letter words".Some of the more difficult catagories usually have slightly out-of-place phrases in them which hint at their answers. The options also help to adapt the game to match your knowledge level. You can control the computer contestants difficulty level anywhere from idiots who only correctly answer 3 or 4 questions, medium average joe level, to super hard competitive challenges. You can also set the amount of time you have to "buzz-in" and the amount of time you have to type in your answer.Another optional feature is the very helpful "Answer Auto Complete".With this feature turned on, as you type, options appear that match the letters you are typing. You can select it to automatically type the answer that pops up, so you don't have to peck at each letter. The game also includes some neat other features. Not only is there interesting questions or "Video Daily Doubles" which have video footage, there are also special features on the game disc, almost like it's a DVD.These "special features" are interviews with cast of the show, and there are even hidden Alex Trebek interviews. You also have the option to scribble your name on your contestant screen, which is fun, and there is a sample "Contestant Exam" with a list of 50 questions [which are much harder then the ones on the video game itself] of random catagories which are meant to give you an idea as to whether or not you have what it takes to be a contestant on the show. With the memory card in, Jeopardy saves all the catagories you have already had, and with over 4000 questions, you can play 75 complete games without seeing a single reapeat question. Every aspect of this game is great, and with the price tag on it, no one should pass on it.
This game is somewhat difficult and I would only recommend it for adults and teenagers.Let's say that on a scale of 1 thru 10 (10 being the hardest) that the TV gameshow questions have a difficulty rating of 10.The questions on the video game would then have a difficulty rating of about 7.5.My wife knows more trivia then I do, but I am better at guessing (often the way the answers are written help significantly in guessing the correct response) and we manage to play very close games. We've played about 50 games. We've each won about 20 games and the computer player has won about 10. The auto-complete feature makes the game much more playable. The game maintains an "internal dictionary" of words that make up all of the correct answers. When you type in one or more letters of a word that it recognizes, it will display the first word in the dictionary that matches this pattern (which may not be part of the correct response) and will allow you to choose that word if you want. This really helps those of us who can't spell long words. The game can be somewhat picky as to what it will accept as a correct answer. For example, if your response is plural (i.e. has an S at the end) and it expects singular, it may (or may not) tell you that you're incorrect. During play, Alex's comments are kept to a minimum and he doesn't become very annoying. We have had very few repeat questions in the Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy rounds. However, about one out of every three Final Jeopardy questions is a repeat. This is the only aspect of the game that I find somewhat annoying.Still...this game is great! It is our most favorite game that we have for our Playstation 2.This game, along with Wheel of Fortune 2 and You Don't Know Jack are great games for adult owners/players of the Playstation.

I am so glad he proved me wrong.I have had this game for 5 years now, and I still enjoy playing it as much now as I ever have. You can play by yourself or with another player or against the computer itself.Even more fun is the ability to unlock other characters in the game after you defeat them.It also forces you to learn how to play with characters that play with left or right hands and whether they have a better long or short game. The characters are humorous at times. When they mess up, they are hilarious.Their expressions say it all.The makers of this game put a lot of effort into making this game interesting.Great buy.

Here are the games: 2)BURGERTIME: You run across burger parts and make them fall down and repeat. Hot dogs, eggs, and other foods are chasing after you! I remember they had this game on coleco vision. Good game, 4/5. 3)JOUST: I was never really a big fan of joust but I remember the game well. Joust 2 is better than Joust 1, because 2 has different looking stageS. Decent game, 3/5. 4)MOON PATROL: This game was popular back in the days. Its not so good now.... Even for nostalgic buffs.... 2/5. 5)ROOTBEER TAPPER: The best game in this collection. You serve drinks from 4 tap stations and slide the mugs down the long bar table. Some customers are quick guzzlers, lol. The original version used budweiser, however back in the days I've only seen rootbeer tapper, hey its still beer. Good graphics. GREAT game, 5/5! 6)SPLAT: Don't remember this in the arcade. The gameplay is quite stupid. You pick up food with 2 hands and try to throw them at the computer player. Score: 0/5. 7)SPY HUNTER: A very popular game back then. The famous music plays for first few seconds of the game and rest of the game is SILENT! I remember the music playing the whole time. This game really shows its age and is honestly horrible now. Score: 1/5. Overall this collection has 2 GREAT games, especially TAPPER. I would give this a 5 rating if the other games were better.
MoonPatrol: My personal favorite;I played this forever on atari 2600.Of course graphics are much better, gameplay is extremely addicting and I love the moon patrol soundtrack!Still have that funky tune in my head!Have gone through the A-Z level three times, and it's STILL churning out more gameplay! Joust2: Believe it or not, this is actually better than the original Joust!Collect golden egg bonuses;fight diffrent enemies like bats, robot vultures and even black knight bosses. You'll also be suprised with in-game voice overs, music and diffrent levels that actually change! While it is a bit tougher,it's just as fun as the original and stays true to it's origin. You'll still fight the other ostrich riders, hurry during the egg wave rounds, and face the same dreaded teradactyl if you take too long! These two games are worth the price alone, but here are the other BurgerTime: This was a fun game that I played on intellevision and 8-bit nintendo.Make the lettuce, meat, buns etc. fall through each floor to make a sandwhich while dodging fast food baddies. Music is the same as it was in the original.Lots of fun;only thing I didn't like was that there were no limitless continues like in MoonPatrol or Joust2.With only three lives to survive on,you'll only get so far and then.....GAME OVER!Still a great game though. RootBeerTapper:Orignally without the "root",this arcade was popular in bars during the 80s.Alot of fun serving drinks and catching the empty glasses while listening to "Old Suzanna".After SpyHunter:I remember this game very well;however I was not a big fan of it.I know alot of people who loved playing this game though;and if you were a fan, you'll be pleased to know that everything has been left intact. From the diffrent power ups to the Peter Gun theme. Splat!:A game very similar to Food Fight! for the atari 7800. Controls are a bit awkward, but you'll get the hang of them.Throw Blaster:I don't remember this one,but it has cool,3-D bright color graphics. It is a space game that I can best describe as something that was seen in "The LawnMower Man" movie.I've actually grown strangely addicted to this game, and like how the screen looks when you "die".The game over screen is also pretty cool..."Paradise is 17 billion light years away!" It is actually possible to get to "paradise",but it is EXTREMELY difficult as you always cycle through 4 diffrent types of gameplay. ...If you love retro games and can find a copy of this title, pick it up immediatly! You'll have countless hours of fun and memories by yourself or with a buddy.
The controls and theireffectiveness differ from game to game.Use of a control pad to play SpyHunter is imminently dissatisfying (a steering wheel is almost necessary toplay it), and Splat! doesn't fare much better- perhaps Sony's hard to findDual Analog sticks (as opposed to the Dual Shock analog controls) wouldwork better.Joust 2, Burgertime, Blaster, and Moon Patrolall handlevery well, and Root Beer Tapper moderately well. The multimedia portionof the game is also very nice...the story behind Blaster is fascinatingto those who are fans of Eugene Jarvis' work. The only disappointmentbesides control issues concerns the lack of the original non-Root-BeerTapper; perhaps because of licensing restrictions, Sony guidelines, or evena wish to avoid a higher ESRB rating only the Root Beer version isincluded.Thankfully, the multimedia history *does* talk about theoriginal bar-themed version of the game. ... The only thing bad is the cg is a little weak, but I didn't buy it for that anyway.
The only thing bad is the cg is a little weak, but I didn't buy it for that anyway.
Aside from the difficulty, my biggest complaint is that your force module, while being a very useful tool, is...well...stupid. There has been more than one occasion where I have been killed because the module got stuck behind some indestructible object when I needed it the most; I was sadly reminded of the one-player version of the Super NES classic Secret of Mana, where you get your backside handed to you because your computer-controlled allies believe they can help you out by trying to run through a wall instead of going around it. Otherwise, R-Type Delta is a very solid game. Graphics, sounds, weapons, and gameplay are all perfectly satisfactory, if not as outstanding as those in Einhander (which yours truly deems the best 2-D shooter yet released in the U.S.). Continues are limited, so be prepared to invest a considerable amount of time. And keep in mind that throwing your controller against a wall may make you feel better, but it won't help your performance.
To say it did would be an understatement.Irem and Agetec have crafted the best side-scroller on the PSX, and perhaps the best modern side-scroller.You take your pick of three R-Type ships (with a fourth hidden), the R9, R13, or RX, each with its own unique Force Module and individual weapons, and invade seven levels of dark, bio-mechanical Bydo Empire-ridden evil.Enemies from previous R-Types are included, but in full menacing polygonal 3D, and even the level designs are from the old games, but again, redone for the 3D generation.Delta is more than a great-looking package, however - it succeeds in creating an immersive universe that sucks you heedlessly in, including a haunting soundtrack that shifts to reflect the on-screen events.Of particular note is the 5th level (dubbed by me as the "Sewer Level"), in which you must dodge your way among drifting pipes and other garbage, weird alien slugs firing on you the whole time. It's suitably murky and bubbly -- almost smelly. And the boss will be familiar to R-Type fans.... Gameplay, thankfully, remains 2D.You scroll from right to left, charging up your force module, and laying waste to the droves of semi-organic Bydo enemies that are an R-Type trademark. The R9 has a standard module, the RX's homes in on the enemy and fires remotely, and the R13's is connected to the ship by a deadly and fully manipulative stream of energy. Each ship has a Beam weapon and a screen-wasting Delta weapon, and the pyrotechnics involved are blissful creations, with no slowdown. The ships handle differently enough to make mastery of each a daunting, yet rewarding task.R-Type has never been a bullet-dodger, but relies strictly on patterns and memorization. And like the prior games, Delta is a very tough nut to crack, even on the Easy difficulty.A true Delta master will not be satisfied until Hard difficulty is conquered with all 3 (make that four!) ships. It's advisable to master control of your Force Module, as well as recognizing when to raise or lower your ship's speed (easily done with the shoulder buttons). Thankfully, Free Play can be obtained through a few hours of play, and trust me, you'll need it! R-Type Delta offers old-school gameplay in new-school clothes, a formula many have attempted, but few have succeeded to such a degree as this.Long-time fans of R-Type may be turned off by the 3D graphics, but rest assured, the gameplay is solid as ever.Hopefully Delta will win the series some new fans. You will not find a better side-scroller on the Playstation.
R-Type Delta may not look as sharp as the original R-Type with it's classic hand drawn artwork and crisp details but in this age of polygons and 3-D special effects, Irem can't be faulted for going with the textured polygon flow. The graphics in Delta are reminescent of what we've seen in Einhander and Philosoma but the brilliance of Irem's graphical work and unique enemies are unmistakable.Galactic worms with translucent sheen arc across the screen as they weave and dive, flitting airships move in oscillating patterns, carriers fly and jump with retro rockets glaring. The game runs silky smooth and the control offers just enough resistance to make the ship feel substantial as you pilot it through alien worlds. The original R-9 and R-13 ship models return along with a new bruiser called the R-X. We haven't been able to check out all the power-ups yet but the bolt-on weapon is standard issue weaponry along with an assortment of laser and missile enhancements. Delta also borrows a variant of a power up move from Mega-Drive classic Gaiares where you can absorb an enemy ship's energy to power up a new mega weapon deemed Delta. Devotees of the R-Type mythos will revel in this new version of the classic series, it's a fitting tribute to one of the greatest shooters in video-game land. New inductees will find Delta a high quality shooter that ranks up there with the best on the Playstation. ... Read more

Editorial Review Overall, this is a fun racing game for the hard-core racing fan, but those who really want to fly are better off with something that offers clearer graphics. Another problem stems from the fact that if you knock another racer off his or her cycle, but the cycle goes forward, then the recent victim of your assault starts where his or her cycle stops. This location is usually in front of you. So it's actually better not to hit them at all. The lack of replays in this version is helpful, and Jet Moto fans will appreciate the upgrade. Still, for a really stellar racing game, look elsewhere. --Allen Stewart Pros: Reviews (11)

Imagine this scenario:For a solid 5 hours, you have been consistently leveling up and strengthening your troops in the same bland battle environments. When you suspect that you have gained the necessary statistics to confront your enemy, you enter one of the major "missions" of the game. However, one of the characters which you have dedicated 5 hours to building up falls in battle. What can you do?Nothing.I recall several occasions in which I almost broke into tears when one of my fighters was slaughtered, as if one of my own dear friends had passed away. Another utterly frustrating situation involves saving a particular non-playable character during a battle.Under these circumstances, the character which you must save is often surrounded by enemy troops while your own band of soldiers is several turns away from arriving to the place where they must conduct the fight.Additionally, the enemy fighters will have obtained a high level equal to the strength of your own army. The special character will usually be a decent 5 levels lower than every other combatant on the battlefield. You will watch hopelessly as the special character will be massacred in a matter of minutes, thus resulting in failure of the mission. Even standard battles requiring the defeat of all enemies on the map are unfairly challenging.Your group of seven fighters will often be outnumbered in a 2- or 3-to-1 ratio. While it would be fun to simply run head-on into the battle and fight off the opposing forces with brute force, such strategies will not prove to be successful. The placement of troops during a battle is absolutely critical and requires investment of time to scope out the statistics of all enemies in the area. Each character's elemental deity plays an incredibly significant role on their survival.Certain characters could be murdered in a matter of three hits from the enemy unit (note:refer to second paragraph to see what to do if a character dies). Despite the frustration involved in actual gameplay, the other aspects of the game are rather lovely.Character designs and conceptual artwork for the game are of noteworthy quality.Although the background music becomes monotonous after a while (the battle music has a tendency of remaining the same), certain melodies are rather charming (such as the mystical introduction tune or the pipe music that plays in the Save and Load screen). The storyline isn't particularly outstanding, but many of the characters possess a certain charisma that draws you to their separate personalities.A certain mystery surrounds some of the characters which may prompt personal ponderings and investigation. In this way, it seems that the game is driven more by the characters at times than the storyline. In spite of its few redeeming qualities, Hoshigami is simply the work of sadists.Although at times amusing (primarily during character conversations), the core of the game--the actual gameplay itself--is severly lacking--or, perhaps better stated, severely frustrating.

Editorial Review For starters, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 lets two players partner ingameplay as they search several randomly generated dungeons that arefull of traps, strange devices, and monsters, making the difficultyincrease as the game progresses. Players can combine armor or weapons to form stronger resources in theirquest. There are also magic feathers that can aid in your efforts, sincethey allow gamers to perform magic spells that have an impact on combat.Between your dungeon travels, players are able to explore villages toobtain valuable clues for the journey. In addition, players can use thistime to update Chocobo's inventory. Overall, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 is a great game for players lookingto get a start in role-playing games. This title is a safe entry pointto this often-complex game genre. --Robb Guido Pros: Features Reviews (9)
Many of the monsters and characters will be familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy series, with some in-jokes built in.For example, the Tonberry, who fights with a Chef's Knife in FF-VIII, is running a restaurant in this game, and has a drunken Malboro (FF monster) for a customer! You will also find Cid the eccentric inventor, the Black Mages, and Mog the Moogle, among others. Chocobo himself, of course, is one of those chicken-like birds that the FF characters ride. That's why, in this game, his defensive armor is a saddle.Chocobo can also be equipped with various collars and claws. Different types of saddles and claws are put into special ovens to create customized weapons, similar to the way that armor and weapons are "tempered" in "Legend of Mana" (another Squaresoft game I recommend.)You can also combine other items at the "recycle boxes" to create new items. When one of your customized saddles or claws breaks in battle, you may get a feather, which has various effects on your abilities.Different weapon combinations and levels produce different feathers. It pays to track down a copy of the Strategy Guide, so you can plan for which abilities you want to develop first. My biggest complaint about this game is that, if you get KO'd in a dungeon, you lose all the items and equipment you had with you. This can be very frustrating, especially in the beginning, when you can't carry much in the way of healing items. As the game progresses, however, you can rent storage space in town, where youstash extra items that won't be lost in a KO.You will also get "teleport tags" that enable you to beam out of the dungeon at any time WITHOUT losing your items. The battle system itself is different from the regular FF games, and takes some getting used to.Each time you make a move, the enemy makes a counter-move.If you don't move, both of you just stand there.Think of this as an online version of the old D&D games, where players took turns rolling dice in the battles, and it will make sense. The big advantage is that you can stop right in the middle of a battle if you need to think about what spell or item to use next. You can even teleport out of a battle if you are about to get KO'd.When you do this, you have to start the dungeon over, but you keep your items and experience points. After you have beat the game once, let the credits roll, and you can play another version of the game -- with new dungeons and the ability to fight as other characters besides Chocobo.Plus, there are some new abilities to earn and a Secret Dungeon with 30 levels!
Chocobo's Dungeon is a very fun game with very cutegraphics. The movies are very 3D and the music is very appealing. Thesystem of battle is a big relief from people who dislike constant flow ofbattle, and Final Fantasy lovers will classify this game immediately as aFinal Fantasy game for the younger audiences. This game is addicting andfun. Once you figure out a healthy system for attacking the dungeons, you'll be able to play through the game without getting confused. Overall avery fun game!
No, don't go scouring your stores - we in US never got the first"Chocobo's Dungeon." Besides, it's not like the plot is reallythat complex anyway. The chocobo (which, if you've never played a"Final Fantasy" game before, is like a giant chicken that'scommonly used as a mount) goes into a dungeon with his friends to try andsave the world. Simple, but then again, it's supposed to be. See, thisseries from Squaresoft is aimed at the younger audiences to help them breakinto the complex world of RPGs without having to do it the really hard way.The combat system's rudimentary, but functional, as is the magicsystem. The graphics are also rounded and, well, cute. Everything has asuperdeformed look to it (big heads, little bodies) and even the soundeffects are reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons. While the Dungeongames may be aimed at younger folk, it doesn't mean that they're no fun forbig kids, because Squaresoft makes sure their games are challenging foreveryone, and even the most hardened veteran of RPGs will have troublefinishing "Chocobo's Dungeon 2" in under 20 hours. Beyond that, the game offers a second set of quests after you finish the first one, togive the game that much more longevity. And, in some ways, it's anostalgia trip for old Squaresoft fans, for them to see some of thecharacters of old Squaresoft games who have been MIA for a while. Sowhether or not you want to get into "Chocobo's Dungeon 2" reallydepends on the experience you're looking for. If you've finished"Final Fantasy VIII" and looking to cut your teeth on anotherhardcore RPG, either go get "Saga Frontier 2" or the epic andintense "Front Mission 3." If you're looking for cuteadventuring fun in short bursts, this will do just fine. --Cliff Hicks ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description (This text refers to the Dreamcast version of this game.) Reviews (7)
Now the good stuff - I like that this game is easy to learn yet hard to master. I speak with some authority, having spend most of my freshman year of college playing friends over the network. On the playstation, it keeps all of its good qualities, and just has the few caveats described above. The game combines cartoon physics with cartoon violence (think of a weapon that launches exploding cows and worms that do martial arts moves). Realistically, most games for a younger audience tend to need a little violence to sell, and this is perhaps the nicest way to give that necessary allure - mostly in that someone does not have exploding cows at their disposal. There are several factors in using the "weapons" in the game which make a player think creatively about physics - throwing a grenade against the wind, deciding how much force to launch a, ahem, cow with, etc. Overall the game provides countless hours of fun and humorous gameplay. Enjoy!
I honestly see a number of comparisons between Worms and golf. The player thinks through which club/weapon would be best to use given the cirumstances and conditions. What type of shot should be made? What angle is necessary to pull the shot off?Which direction is the wind blowing? However, in addition the Worms player must think about defense.Should I burrow in here?If I transport there, will that leave me open to be killed during the next round? This is a true thinking game, but it's so much fun to play. No, you won't get killer graphics and fast paced action, but you will get a good challange and an awesome game to play against friends. Now, onto this particular Worms game.World Party is very, very similar to Worms Armageddon. In fact, they are about the same game.If you don't have a Worms game, this is as good as any of the three to get. However, if you already have Armageddon, this game isn't going to offer much that's new.
