Editorial Review Solo players will skate to win the world championship, with over 100 moves available to score points, including slides, grinds, and landing tricks. A split screen allows players to compete against each other. During this head-to-head mode, you can score style points, race between obstacles, or play tag. If you opt for graffiti mode, both players compete against each other by "tagging" objects while performing their tricks. A replay mode is available for players to view highlights at the end of a game. The level design is enormous, with 10 interactive courses, including skate and pool parks, half pipes, and a downtown area. Each skating environment is filled with secret places, shortcuts, and obstacles. Once you get the moves down, you can perform a trick off of just about any object that you see. Tony Hawk is not the only star in this game--the music stands strong on its own. Cool cuts come from Primus and the Dead Kennedys--which can be inspiring during the frantic onscreen action. While game control is relatively solid, there are some minor problems in tight areas. This title is so large it is overwhelming, given the enormity of levels and available moves. However, persistent skate pros will master this game with a little practice. (Fortunately, there is a practice mode to scrape your knees on.) --Kasty Thomas Pros: Reviews (154)

Editorial Review The story runs somewhere between Mortal Kombat and your wildest dreams of demolition derbies. But the paper-thin plot doesn't matter: you have a rad car and aren't afraid to use it. Whether you choose to control the monster truck driven by the little old lady, Mr. Grimm's motorcycle o' death, or what is quite possibly the coolest ice-cream truck ever, you'll speed and skid around the asphalt-covered levels, grabbing power-ups and blowing up your opponents with a wide array of vehicle-mounted weaponry. In a game like this, several things are key: physics, control, and level design. Twisted Metal III departs from the previous games in the franchise. The levels are smaller and the physics and controls conspire to make the vehicles handle oddly. The bottom line: car-smashing fun that doesn't quite live up to the glories of the prequels. --John Cocking Pros: Features Reviews (63)

Amazon.com Review Despite the fact that it's mostly derivative, the game has a fewoutstanding features. It contains lots of full-motion video sequences, albeit at the expense of load times. The real gem is the soundtrack, which is a nice mix of punk, electronica, hip-hop, and rock. It'sdefinitely one of the best video game soundtracks ever. If you're looking for the best BMX game on the PlayStation, this is it.If you're a fan of extreme sports in general, you'd be better servedwith THPS2 or waiting for THPS3. --Raymond M.Padilla Pros: Reviews (37)

Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (14)
The graphics, presented in an overhead 3D adventure-type view of the battle arena, are fairly good. The intro movie is excellent.Powerpuff Girls fans will especially enjoy seeing the show's intro in 3D animation..Overall, things are nice and colorful and do a good job of creating an atmosphere similar to the show..The sound is also good, although some more soundbytes from the characters or the show would have been nice. The controls are fairly simple, albeit somewhat sluggish. In fact, my first impression with the game was that it was quite slow. However, as you get into the game a little more, the pace seems to be just about right for the gameplay style...Still, it can be a bit tedious at times... As for difficulty and longevity..There are several villains and arenas to unlock by playing through the story mode with each Powerpuff Girl. These can also be unlocked with passwords that can be found online.Normally, the ability to unlock secrets would add to the longevity of the game, but there aren't many villains to defeat, and the game can be finished fairly quickly...I beat this game and unlocked all of the secrets the first night I played it...That's not to say it's easy...it's actually fairly difficult even on "easy" mode, probably to the point that it would frustrate some of the younger fans of the show. However, with so few battles to win, it becomes a matter of persistance rather than skill...fighting each villain over and over until you defeat them. After you beat the game, there's not much point to doing it again. Then it comes down to the simulator mode, a one or two player single battle game that becomes very tedious after about a day.In other words, it's very likely to become one of those games that sits on a shelf indefinitely after playing it for a day or two... Well, the bottom line is that it's fun for a while. It's definitely not an outstanding game.It IS somewhat violent..but those of you complaining about the violence might want to try watching an actual episode of the cartoon..If you're a big fan of the Powerpuff Girls, it's probably worth buying just to dust off every once in a while, watch the intro movie, and play a bit..For anyone else, I'd say it deserves a rental, but you'll find that even the rental period will probably outlast the enjoyment you'll get from the game...
The characters in this game move extremely slow.It makes it difficult and frustrating to play this game.I may not be an obsessive gamer, but I am 18 and have the necessary motor skills to play a freaking video game!So obviously there is something wrong with the game.I wish I had read everyone's online reviews before getting this game, because I would not have gotten it if I had.I would recommend getting anything from the Spyro series if you're looking to play a cute, fun game. You can actually get somewhere with those! Also, Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy is a cute game for girls.

Oh, and the two player mode is as fun as a bout of ... in a space suit. Co-operative play only!! There isn't even a mode where you can fight your mates... I know it's cheap, but it's a 'three-games-and-it's-gathering-dust' title I'm afraid. Why doesn't someone release Star Control for the PS?? Now that was great fun.

Editorial Review Collaboration with the TV show's creator, Chris Carter, ensures that the gameattains the eerie visual quality of the show, but the lack of any tension orpacing makes one wonder why the game is spread across an unusually voluminousfour PlayStation discs. Mulder and Scully have gone missing, and as the poorly acted Craig Willmore, alocal FBI agent, you must find the clues that lead to their whereabouts. Most ofthe game is spent aimlessly wandering from location to location, hoping to findscreen hotspots that may possibly give players a clue as to what they aresupposed to do next. Conversations with others seem strangely stilted, and often the script offers upred herrings that will frustrate players who try to play the game as if it werelogically designed. In a number of instances, even though you know what courseof action you should take, you're forced to wait for the game to catch up withyou before taking it. Unless you are a die-hard X-Files collector, there islittle reason to own this game. --Jeff Young Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (28)

Editorial Review While gameplay mostly consists of exploration, combat, and puzzle solving,Rion's powers add an inspired--although somewhat disturbing--gameplay twist. Inorder to perform psychic attacks, Rion must inject himself with variouschemicals. However, excessive use of his powers have an adverse effect on hishealth, which forces our adolescent junkie to ingest pills to counter the sideeffects. Although Galerians's stylized, computer-generated cut scenes give thegame a cinematic feel, there's an odd sense of discontinuity in this game. Thisis mostly caused by an annoying pause that occurs when your character movesbetween fixed camera viewpoints. In addition, there is a total lack oftransitional graphics during the disc load times, which occur when Rion isopening doors and such. --Joe Hon Pros: Features Reviews (22)
The gameplay has some blaring faults, mainly in the sense that the fighting is hard to control, and somewhat poorly designed. The whole drug idea is a cool one, in terms of storyline, but when it comes to actually playing out that idea, it can be annoying. You'll be constantly running around, searching for drugs to either heal you, protect you against "shorting out", or help you kill the bad guys.Other items are strewn across the game, such as keys and what not, to add a bit of puzzle-play to the game, but all it really does is slows the game down. When it comes down to it, the gameplay is very sub-par.But, the storyline, graphics, sound and overall atmosphere make up for it.The entire game is filled with chilling cinemas to depict the game's downright creepy sci-fi storyline. All of the environments are very imaginative and drip with style. This game isn't blatantly jump-out-of-your-seat scary like Resident Evil. It's closer to the subtle, psychological and atmospheric horror found in Silent Hill--but in a sci-fi setting. The game has a sinister air about it everywhere you go; you'll feel for Rion straight from the beginning, while being disturbed by the violent acts he commits, almost unknowingly.I would recommend this game to someone that is willing to sacrifice good gameplay for a unique, chilling plot, and superbly executed sound and graphics. But if you demand a game that focuses more on gameplay than ambience and aesthetics, steer absolutely clear of Galerians.
So, onto the basic premise of the game. You're a young boy named Rion. You wake up in a lab with no memories and an array of psychic abilities, apparently received while you were the unwilling subject for some sort of experimentation. You begin the game by escaping your restraints and trying to win your freedom. As you progress through the game's 4 areas, the story unfolds through character interactions and beautiful movies and images usually triggered by some sort of psychic flashback or intuition related to various objects and locations. The gameplay basically involves battles (that are usually few and far between) and puzzle solving (mostly of the "find items and keys and figure out where to use them" variety).Your main weapons in battle are your psychic abilities, enhanced by chemicals called PPECs.You start out with 2 offensive abilities.Nalcon allows you to send sort of an attack wave ...You'll get a 3rd ability (albeit a fairly useless one) halfway through the game. So, you're basically left with 2 fairly weak main attacks, each taking more than one hit at full power to take out all but the simplest of enemies. The game's weapon and healing systems all rely on drugs. You have certain amounts of offensive drugs in your system. When they run low, you have to inject yourself with more. When your health runs low, pop a pill. You also have "anger points" that rise just from walking around and rise more rapidly when you use psychic powers. This is due to the interaction of drugs in your system, and when the AP meter gets to high, you "short", which is basically a psychic overdose that leaves you walking around with a big migraine. The plus side:Every enemy you go near while shorting will die violently. The negative side:Your health will go south rather quickly until you stop the shorting by taking a pill called delmetor. Enemy battles are usually easy, except for a handful of very difficult end bosses that take a while to defeat and a few instances where enemies attack you 3 at a time, leaving you frustratingly unable to fight back.Strategy is limited, usually involving running around in circles until you have enough time to charge your powers and attack. As for the graphics and sound, they're both excellent for the Playstation. The general game graphics are nice, sharp, and detailed. The movies (which are the reason the game spans 3 discs) are also quite impressive. The sound is excellent, from eerie music down to the footsteps that let you know an enemy is pacing around the corner... The controls..well..they're annoying. If you've never played a survival horror game, the stiff controls will prove to be a great annoyance. If you're a survival horror veteran, they'll be a familiar annoyance.Having to charge up your psychic powers in order to attack with any effectiveness adds to the frustration as it's sometimes hard to target fast moving enemies while charging, leading you to miss often and waste your PPECs.. Overall, I'd say don't buy this game, rent it.It's a rather enjoyable game with a great storyline and entertaining puzzles. However, as I stated earlier, it will only last you a couple nights, and since the main thrill of the game is following the storyline and figuring out the puzzles, it has practically no replay value.

Editorial Review But this game's landmark contribution is its targeting control, which enables Gabe to lock and hold on to atarget while freely moving in any direction, eliminating the hassle of adjusting the viewpoint to face hisenemies. There are plenty of surprises, but all the goals are evident, and your partner, Lian Xing, keepsthings rolling along with radio messages of changing mission objectives. Editorial Review Le Mans wins the award for presentation with a cool intro movieand a British announcer who details every track and car in depth. Thereis even an advanced telemetry feature that pinpoints where driversaccelerated and decelerated. It also communicates speed and the pointsin the race where you achieve maximum speed. Even with all of its finely rendered cars, the tracks in Le Mansare a bit lacking in terms of shading and realism. But as far as racinggames go, it's the only Le Mans game out there (at the time of thisreview, at least). --Robb Guido Pros: Reviews (7)
Stepping backward from the PS2 Le Mans 24 Hours to the PSX Test Drive Le Mans is very a eye-opening experience. In Quick Race mode, where car adjustments such as fuel and aerodynamics are not available, car handling is VERY twitchy, to the extent that even the cars with the best handling characteristics are simply not driveable. Some of the other game modes, however, DO allow for car adjustments; if the right combination can be found, the cars can be driven fairly well... although the cars will still be somewhat twitchy in terms of handling.Le Mans 24 Hours is also more of a simulation-style game, whereas Test Drive Le Mans is much more of an arcade-style game with a (very) few tuning and adjustment options available. What disappointed me most, however, is the 'lack of faithfulness' to the real-world Le Mans circuit... This is most likely due to the limitations of the PlayStation itself (the console for which the game was designed), but this also means that there is no true sense of the immense length of the world-famous Mulsanne/Hunaudieres straight; also, there are also virtually NO elevation changes in Test Drive Le Mans. For those with any level of familiarity with Le Mans 24 Hours, the Le Mans circuit in Test Drive Le Mans is definitely recognizable, but also very much an abomination :-( Just to clarify, Test Drive Le Mans is definitely NOT a bad game! However, despite being an arcade-style game, Test Drive Le Mans definitely does require better-than-average driving skills. As such, it is NOT a good game for young children, as they will quickly become frustrated at their lack of success (especially in Quick Race mode). Some measure of patience is certainly required in any driving game, but Test Drive Le Mans requires a lot more patience than any other driving/racing game I have ever played - either on PlayStation OR PlayStation2.

Also, these things should cost a lot less by now. They should be more like 12 bucks, not 20. But on the plus side, these cards are highly reliable. I've never lost data on one of these things, even on the oldest cards I own (which I've had since '97). The generic brands are slightly cheaper, but they have bombed out on me from time to time. Overall it's a good (and necessary) buy for all PSX owners.
