5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Parent & Child Together
I sat down with my two daughters ages 5 and 3 and played this game WITH them.We had a great time with it.They loved the adventure and I helped them to understand how to look for Ken and follow the clues. Now that they have been through the game they can play it alone.Especially my 5 year old.All of the clues change for the next game.I give it a thumbs up!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine for an older child
My daughter is 9 and she has enjoyed all the "Detective Barbie" games in the past.We own the first 2 games for the PC and purchased this one for our Playstation. Both my daughter and my son (6 - almost 7) love solving the mysteries.I think Mattel should just "up" the age on this game.It is way too hard for a 5 year old.I agree with the other reviews on this point. In my opnion, most barbie games are good for 7 & up.(Secret Agent, Super Sports etc.)

1-0 out of 5 stars This game is too complicated for me, let alone my 5-year-old
Do I have to give it a star at all? This is by far the worst game my daughter owns. It's so difficult to play that my daughter needs my help constantly. And I find it extremely slow, and frustrating. Trust me, this game will aggravate both you AND your child.Save your money, folks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Barbie-age kids
This game is too complicated for my 7 year old.Even with my help she was frustrated.By the time she is old enough to play this game alone she will think she is too old to do anything with Barbie in the title.Save your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars NotSo Easy
I bought this game with high expections for my 5 year old Barbie- loving daughter who has just begun to take an interest in the Playstation the past few months. You are Barbie in this game trying to solve a who-dunnit mystery by talking to passengers and crew on a cruise ship and at various ports.Manuevering is not so easy when more advanced reading skils are required--older kids would probably fare much better. With much of my help, we made it far enough to discover the missing item, however my daughter lost interest since she couldn't do much of the game by herself. ... Editorial Review

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver tells the story of Raziel, one of the undead lieutenants of the vampire lord Kain. Jealous of Raziel's newly evolved wings, Kain tears them apart and casts his former champion into the netherworld. But a powerful entity that dwells in the netherworld has restored Raziel to a semblance of life and has set him on a path of vengeance.

After this tantalizing movie introduction, you take control of Raziel in the spectral realm, where your new existence is explained to you. From there you enter the physical plane, ready to begin your quest for power and revenge. Raziel's combat moves are extremely brutal, as you'd expect from a vampire who has returned from the dead. When he finds a spear, Raziel gleefully stabs and slashes before he impales his foe, lifts it off the ground, and feasts on its soul. Doing so enhances Raziel's power, and devouring the souls of the rest of Kain's lieutenants is the only way to get the special abilities--scaling walls, phasing through gates, etc.--needed to reach Kain himself. While fun for adults, parents should take note: this game is definitely not suitable for kids. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • Agile, fluid character animation and combat moves
  • Beautiful scenery
  • The Soul Reaver (think "vampiric lightsaber")
  • Ability to glide using the tattered remnants of Raziel's wings
Cons:
  • Convoluted topography
  • Sometimes awkward camera angles
  • Lack of direction

5-0 out of 5 stars "THE GREATEST VIDEOGAME OF ALL TIME"
The first time I played Soul Reaver, I was a freshman in high school, having limited experience in action/adventure games, or videogames in general. Right from the opening scenes, I was blown away by the game's powerful story and brutal execution scenes. The story of Soul Reaver revolves around Raziel, an extremely conflicted character who has been cheated and left to die by his comrades-mainly Kain. Long ago, Raziel was promoted by his vampire brethren, receiving "wings" as a reward for his accomplishments. Kain, his leader, grew jealous and ordered Raziel to be cast into the "abyss," after his wings had been mutilated. After a millennium or so, Raziel awakes to find his body decomposed, giving him a ghastly appearance. A voice beckons him from within the abyss... Is it in his mind? Regardless, Raziel must seek out Kain and avenge the travesty that was laid upon him... So begins the best videogame storyline of all time, rivaling only J.R.R. Tolkien's epic.

Raziel is very agile, and has the ability to scale walls, impale enemies, move large objects, throw items/foes, and last but not least, glide utilizing his tattered wings. Another breakthrough aspect of Soul Reaver was the fact that Raziel was immortal, being able to shift from the spectral to material form. By no means is Raziel a vampire-he is disgusted by his former kind. Raziel is a new breed of anti-hero, one that feeds on the "soul" of his host. This quality is what gives Raziel his superhuman strength, and makes him a very formidable foe indeed.

Unlike the sequel, the first Soul Reaver has a myriad of bosses and enemies-ones that are in fact quite frightening. Each time Raziel kills a boss, he gains their special powers. Each of the head bosses was also at one time a vampire; however, they have become grotesquely mutated with time. After Raziel gains the Spectral Reaver from Kain, Raziel's superhuman strength increases ten-fold, and enemies are much easier to maim and mutilate. Unfortunately, Raziel never gets a chance to snuff Kain-in fact, the tables turn during the third installment of the series.

The only con to this game would have to be the lengthy duration-it's over sixty hours. As a result of this, I never actually beat all of Soul Reaver 1. Evidently, I didn't miss much, because Kain jumps through a portal during the climax. According to other reviewers, this is somewhat of an anti-climax; it frustrated gamers during its initial release. Fortunately, this was resolved in Defiance, whereas Kain is the one who ends up smiting Raziel, and for good reason, of course.

To sum up:

PROS
- INSANELY ADDICTING STORYLINE
- BREATHTAKING GRAPHICS (FOR ITS TIME)
- BEAUTIFUL SCENERY AND LANDSCAPES
- ULTRA VIOLENT AND BLOODY
- THE ABILITY TO SHIFT BETWEEN TWO ALTERNATE DIMENSIONS
- ABILITY TO GAIN "GLYPHS," OR MAGICAL POWERS
- ABILITY TO GLIDE USING THE REMNANTS OF RAZIEL'S WINGS
- CHALLENGING PUZZLES & BOSSES

CONS
- LENGTHY DURATION (CON?)

1-0 out of 5 stars I like blue men!
Looking for rise off of naked blue men with green capes reminding you of your hero to save you. Well this game is for you. I first got introduced by one of my friends I mean an acquaintance. His favorite games soon showed me that he really wasn't all that bright. He said (In a gay womenly voice) "Hey try this game out." So I said hey what the hell. As I took it home I hid it away so no one would see it. So I popped it into my Playstation and even it rejected it. So after a couple of trys it finally ran. So the title screen appeared...I never knew this was an alien/vampire porno flick. The idea of impailing naked green "Slaughs" as their called in the game isn't my idea of a thrill. After killing them their balls shoot out numbing the mind into thinking why the main character would have to eat them to gain energy. Wow now I know im scared. Then the mysteriousnes of tredding through the two mystical worlds (one retarted...another more retarted) is as amazing as tredding through a piece of sh*t. Answer me this: If a vampire/gay alien, has his mouth ripped off how can he eat balls or talk? Its amazing!! "Feed on the balls of your enemies" "Explore the vast pieces of crap and an extra bonus its a ball buffet!!" The main character is not only a gay alien but is supposedly a vampire. His arch enemy is another vampire but is about...I don't know a billion times better then him (Just a rough estimate). The most amazing complex part of the gameplay is his amazing three hit combo. WOW THREE HITS!! Then press x to dodge/lunge and triangle to impale. Oh the complexity. My mind strains over this sh*t. Well if you like to get off to blue alien like men...Go for but I suggest you don't waist your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest games ever to walk this earth.
First of all, I must say I am a big fan of the legacy of kain series, the Blood omen games are okay, but that was just before everything really started stirring up, the soul reaver games are better in graphics, fighting scenes, and everything else. This game is loaded with combat, puzzles, and extremely twisted bosses to fight. I was only dissapointed that Raziel's brother Turell evades his vengeance in this game, so you never get to kill him. But overall, one of my favorite games ever created.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the firsts, and one of the best
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was one of the first games made for playstation and to this day is still one of the bestSoul Reaver follows the story of Raziel, a badass vampire who's trying to get revene on his former master Kein. Raziel must travel through the spectral realm and the real realm defeating 9 vampire tribes to get stronger and defeat Kein.Wgat makes this game fun is the fact that you can go anywhere you want at anytime. Also the graphics were way ahead of it's time. The fighting is this game is amazing, you get to use Raziels brutal vampire attacks and you can use spears which can either throw for a one hit kill or beat the living crap out of your enemies. The bad things about this game is that there is absolutely no sense of direction in this game. I had to refer to the internet man;ytimes to figure out where to go next. Also I heard that the ending sucks. I never beat the game because I couldn't get into Keins lair at the end. This game has a few flaws, but as long as you have a strategy guidej, it can the funnest games you'll ever play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta be a teen to play this game
In the beginning this game might seem like an action game with alot of blood and gore but after a while you figure out that this is one of the hardest strategy/puzzle games ever. Once you start getting to the puzzles you want to take the disk and through it the window.

A great game but you might want to play something else every other hour 'cause it can get VERY annoying.

Not for people/kids/small who cant stand blood or are wimps. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Always Buy From The Maker
If you want a DVD Remote, always, ALWAYS buy it from Sony. Not only will an off-brand remote (or anything else) possibly break down your system, but it's hardly even worth it (price-wise).

My mother bought me this one to go with my PS2 for it's price because the guy at Target told her that it didn't matter which kind you buy.I thought I'd at least give it a try, knowing that it probably wouldn't work.Sure enough, after getting everything plugged in and such, nothing worked correctly. Some of the buttons didn't work at all, while some of them did work sometimes. My DVD was stuck playing and every time I pressed something it said something about not being able to read the command.

After about an hour and a half of messing with it, I still couldn't get it to work.Frustrated, I threw down the remote and used the controller.About half-way through my movie, the DVD stopped itself and started over.I tried this numerous times, but after a shorter and shorter time, it would stop itself and start over.It took me a little while to realize that this DVD remote was still connected to the PS2.I took it out, and amazingly the DVD worked fine.

Now, I'm bothered that perhaps my PS2 got some kind of internal damage that just hasn't shown up yet.DO NOT buy this, despite it being a few dollars cheaper than the brand name.I'm not sure if I just got a broken one or what, but I wouldn't take the chance.Off-brand things should never be trusted until tested. And this has been tested.Do not trust. ... Editorial Review

No question about it: Doom is one of the greatest games of all time. The blend of a simple, yet compelling mission, breakthrough 3-D interface, brilliant level and weapon design, and the effective use of fear made Doom an instant classic and launched a revolution in computer games. Born on the PC, this game has been ported to almost everything imaginable, and the PlayStation port is one of the best.

You play the part of a space marine who was stationed on a research station on the Martian moon, Phobos. Something went very wrong when the researchers opened an extradimensional portal. Now you're trapped far from home, grabbing guns and ammo to blast the demons. A one-man crusade, you shoot everything that moves--and, likewise, everything that moves tries to return the favor.

This was the game that launched the multiplayer craze on the PC, and the PlayStation version does its best to live up to Doom's reputation as the ultimate multiplayer deathmatch game.If you have two players, two PlayStations, and a link cable, you can enjoy some mad two-player mayhem.

A few words of caution: remember that Doom was the first wildly successful first-person shooter, and while its graphics were astounding for its era, it hasn't aged well. If you want the latest and greatest graphics, you'll be disappointed, but if you're into quality gaming and appreciate history, you'll still get a huge blast out of Doom. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • Lots of mayhem
  • Terror mounts as your ammo count drops
Cons:
  • Older graphics
  • Nothin' but violence
  • Sluggish when compared to the PC version

5-0 out of 5 stars After over a decade, Doom still stands the test of time
Doom(1995). The Playstation rerelease of the 1993 classic, and also including the expansion, Ultimate Doom, and its sequel, Doom II.

In this day in age, it's not that hard to take first person shooters for granted. They're EVERYWHERE in every shape and form on every system, literally clones of clones in a sense. What's even harder now is spotting the true gems that stand out within the genre. However, back in 1993 the FPS was unheard of commercially, and as difficult as it is to believe, the genre was a major revolution to gaming. Out of nowhere, the company iD Software showed up and introduced Wolfenstein 3D, the first real FPS. While it does stand as a gaming milestone of the early 90s, it didn't quite take off in the public. What did succeed however was their next project, which consisted of heavy weaponry, lengthy levels, demon slaughtering, BFG 9000s, and key collecting: the legendary Doom.

Anyone who first experienced the game back in its height of popularity knows that Doom wasn't just a game, but a phenomenon. It has always consumed gamers (and continues to do so) into its ever addicting gameplay without compromise. The premise here is really simple: A base on Mars is attacked by Demons through a portal from Hell, and so the higher ups send the whole military platoon in to take care of the situation while you stand guard at the portal entrance. Of course, everyone gets wiped out except for you and now it's your job to go in and eliminate every last one Hell's minions. Yeah, it's a dumb story and it was eventually improved drastically with Doom 3 many years later, but the one aspect that makes these older Doom games superior to Doom 3 is that its simplistic storyline allows you to pick up the game from the get-go. There's no 30-minute CG cutscenes to introduce the game to you. There's no hour-long tutorial demonstrating how to play the game. No, immediately upon starting you're thrusted right into gameplay, and quite honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. Doom is to 3D what Contra is to 2D gaming: an instant, immersive, and entertaining experience, albeit somewhat mindless.

Of course, most Halo and Unreal Tournament gamers of today will blindly slag off Doom simply because the game is old and because of its archaic graphics. Yes, the graphics do date this game a bit, plus its bloody, violent visuals look a lot more like a cartoon now than it did ten years ago, but people need to wake up and realize that a game is not fun solely based on how great the graphics are. The visuals are primitive, but you won't really care once you become immersed in the game.

Another common complaint about Doom from people now is that "all you do is shoot monsters and collect keys". True, newer FPSs offer different things to do, but people take Doom's simplicity merely at face value and they seem to miss the point. One thing that Doom has on most other FPS games is in its ingenious level designs. The creators really took the time to make its monsters, levels, and the overall experience memorable in a way that makes you want to come back for more. The differences between Doom and Doom II may only seem like cosmetic upgrades, but as the games go along, the mazes become more and more intricate and cleverly designed. Having story missions and goals to complete is fun, but not at the expense of completely non-linear gameplay. Doom never skimps out on this aspect.

Obviously the PC versions of the games are the best ones to play, but for those who happen to have a PS1/PS2 and caught onto Doom at a later date, this version will give you a real bang for your buck. With 2 games and an expansion, the whole package here offers about 60 levels, and 5 difficulty levels of nonstop action. One thing that is improved from the PC version is the sound. All the sound effects and monsters have improved noises, and all the droning level songs from the PC are replaced by an atmospheric, at times errie background soundtrack. As a Doom player for many years now, I believe this makes Doom that much better. Plus, the game feels very natural with a PS1 controller. Also, if you can ever find 2 PS1s, a link cable, 2 Doom games, and 2 TVs, the multiplayer option is well worth it.

While other FPS games after Doom added a few new things here and there, very few were able to capitalize on Doom's greatest strength, which is its design. In fact, the only other FPS series to really impress me besides Doom is Half-life. I know that this review sounds like a bunch of praise, but a lot of the popular complaints are really nothing but hot air. However, I do wish that you could save the game via memory card instead of having to copy down passwords. That's my only gripe though. I give Doom my highest recommendation to open gamers looking for a challenge and a way to kill time. It's one of my all-time favorite games. In time, you too will agree that there's nothing quite like taking out a room full of zombie soldiers with a single double-barrel shotgun blast, jumping out of your seat as a group of angry imps pops out of a "monster closet"(hahaha), and dodging ferocious attacks by Barons Of Hell while you find health and attempt to take them out with a shotgun.

Replayability: Very high. It's Doom. That's all that needs to be said.

Other recommendations:
-Final Doom (PC/PS1)
-Doom 3 (PC)
-Half-life (PC)
-Half-life 2 (PC)
-Jedi-Knight: Dark Forces II (PC)

4-0 out of 5 stars Doom - Playstation version
Doom for PS1 is a great game. Almost every level from Ultimate Doom & Doom II is here, plus some new levels never before seen on the PC. This game is dark, scary as hell, and can really get in your head. The soundtrack is totally different from the PC, and creates a very eerie atmosphere that few games ever do. The controls are easy to learn, that's a good thing. However, the only reason why I gave this game 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the graphics. Yes, as you may have already read, the graphics are a bit sluggish, especially when compared to the PC version. In my opinion, the best version of Doom is the PC version, period. Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom are the best video games ever, in MY opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game of all time
I saw Doom for the first time about 10 years ago when a friend of mine was playing it on his computer....and up until that point, playing old 8-bit Nintendo games summed up a fun day for me. Don't get me wrong, and I'm not knocking some NES classics here at all by any means, but I must say, I fell in love with Doom the moment I saw it. Too bad the (...) was so hooked too that he wouldn't let me play.
So....fast forward to the release of the Playstation....and the eventual release of Doom. I bought Doom the first day it came out....and my Playstation wasn't turned off for 32 straight hours. I ABSOLUTELY love first-person shooter type games, and aside from Rise Of The Triad (the first FPS I ever played) Doom turned my world upside down.
This is, by far, the best video game on the planet....hell, in the universe.

The translation from the PC to the Playstation was flawless....hell, in my opinion, it's even better. You get all of the Doom and Doom II levels, and an additional 5 secret levels custom-made for the Playstation only. That's 59 total levels of mayhem....an immersive quest that you can NOT tear yourself away from.

Sure, by today's standards, the graphics are primitive and full of sprites and look a little blocky when you're up close....the enemies and items are modeled in 2D, meaning you can never look at their backside....and heck, you can't even jump....but....WHO CARES? This game is heaven, and even today, will still scare the (...) out of you....even if you memorized the location of every enemy in the game, knowing what to expect around every corner.
Don't believe me? Well try this situation on for size: You just cleared out a room full of Imps and Sergeant Zombies with every last round of shotgun ammo you had. You turn the next corner and hello....there's a Baron of Hell. *Change weapon to BFG9000* (...), you only have enough ammo for one shot. You aim, shoot, and barely hit the moron. He's still coming at you....and, as you cycle through your weapons....you notice only your pistol has ammo left. Oh (...). *runs*
That right there is the definition of fun....excitement....and horror....all making this game the number one video game of all time.

11 out of 10....and yes I did that on purpose....as Doom is more than perfect....

5-0 out of 5 stars Doom and DIE in HELL
Based in the horrers of hell this was a scary game at the time of 1990. Now now there is a new adition of DOOM so called the 3'ed. Did you youst think that all those hell knigths, imps, barrens of hell, mancubus and the cyberdemon were scary well think again! DOOM 3 is set the scariest game of the and it looks like our little scary freinds have just grown up. Now on to DOOM. For the PS1 this was great grathics and the graphicks are goodeneth to see the detail on very small switchs this was 1990. The guns are great. the list, 1 fists, chainsaw, pistol, shotgun, super shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasmagun and the BFG 9000. Yuor first three wepons are a bit poor so Ied addvise you not to go up against the cyberdemon if you dont want to get yourself killed. The Game play is as good as you can get for some of the very early consle games. The basic story line is that your a milatary solder and you have to stop an invasion of demons from escaping the gates of HELL. If you die then earth is conkered by HELL. When you finish the game a sreen will apear a monster like voice will start speaking with the words apearing on the the sreen , after that nearly all yhe mosters in DOOM apear in turn and you get to shoot them with your shotgun this will go on forever until you go to the menu or type in a password. I hope all you doom fans out there have played the multiplayer deathmatch and copritive cos I havent bacause it wont connect or it just takes a load of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
This game broke new ground for the video game industry, and not just for the violence, but for the environments and gameplay. This PS1 game is Doom and Doom II bundled into one, and it's great. Playing it on a PSX or PS2 is just as good, if not better, than playing it on a PC. It's a blow to political correctness everywhere. ... Read more

WWF Attitude is just like its subjects: big. Over 40 World Wrestling Federation wrestlers--with bigger-than-life bodies and personalities to match--take to the ring, including The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, D-Generation X and Triple H. Wrestle as an individual or tag team, create your own pay-per-view event, or choose from a wide variety of options for matches and gameplay.

As the wrestlers comes out, their theme music is played, and they go through their trademark moves. From there the action gets a little slow. While the crowd sounds very realistic, the actual moves are executed rather slowly. Plus Acclaim has included a function that causes the wrestlers to lock arms if they get too close. This is designed to keep a player from using the same moves over and over again. It doesn't work--an entire match can be won by just hitting the kick button. What it does do is force numerous arm locks that do little damage and can turn monotonous. However, executing a great move like a body slam is cool--when it works.

Hard-core professional wrestling fans will appreciate the accurate character models and faithful reproductions of signature moves of their favorite wrestlers. While those who are into fast and furious wrestling action will be better served looking elsewhere, fans who enjoy watching the pros will enjoy this game's cinematic attitude. --Allen Stewart

4-0 out of 5 stars Gameplay Bad, C.A.W. Feature Good
Allright, I admit It When it comes to Gameplay This Game [loses] But When It Comes To Creating Wrestlers This Game Is Revolutionary. The Create-A-Wrestler Feature On This Game Is So Detailed That You Don't Just Pick The Face, You Pick The Eyes The Nose and The Mouth. You Also Can Put Lettering On Your Clothing, And Have A Wide Variety Of Masks, Face-Paint, And Apparel. With This Game You Could Create The L.O.D., And Even The Insane Clown Posse! The Create-A-Wrestler Mode Is So Detailed This Game Is Worth Playing Just For That. I Only Wish That Modern Wrestling Games With C.A.W. Mode Would Take a Page From This Game.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Crystal clear picture'.......
I thought this thing was going to be a lousy product, works great! The picture is 'crystal clear',I guess it depends what kind of t.v. you buy. To bad 'Sony Playstation 2' didn't include this adapter in the box, which they should've,like 'Sega' and 'Nintendo'.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but only good with ps2 console
Ok, this device works without a doubt.I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it only works with ps1 and ps2 consoles. For the same price, other companies make adapters that work with other consoles which is beter in the long run in case you buy more consoles.AFter all, i dont think buying an official adapter to hook up to your tv by sony is needed. It is just wires underneath and as long as the hookups match, other brand names can do fine.My take is buy a 3rd party adapter for the same price that can hook up multiple consoles.

3-0 out of 5 stars eventually everything dies,
well, i had this thing for a long time along with my ps2, worked fine, yep, we had some great times, almost magical, but then approximitly what, 2 years after i purchased the thing the little knobby thing that you plug the cable into is busted, cheapo thing, its too bad it is essential for my ps2, so im buying another. buy it if u must, but beware, the cheapy thing combusts

4-0 out of 5 stars This should be given 0 stars.Reason: LOUSY PICTURE
I bought this cable, so I could connect my console to a Motel 6 TV.The TV was not equipped with anything but the round Radio Frenquency (RF) connector, and the result was terrible.Lines ran through the picture constantly from outside interference and the picture was extremely blurry.INSTEAD, I recommend you use your money to buy a new TV that is equipped with standard video/audio phono plugs as a bare minimum. If possible, get a TV equipped with S-VHS or HDTV component connectors for the absolute best picture. ... What's a Q*bert? He's a cantankerous little orange feller with an anteater-like snout and apenchant for swearing in an alien tongue. Don't worry, parents, his swearing is cutely expressed in asterisksand squiggles, accompanied by an audio clip of garbled electronic noises. Q*bert was the star of his veryown coin-op video game that debuted back in 1982, challenging players to hop from cube to brightlycolored cube while avoiding missteps and collisions, and this PlayStation remake contains that old game inits entirety. Also here is a brand new set of challenges spanning 24 lamp-lit levels.

Q*bert doesn't make a very smooth transition from arcade to PlayStation, mostly because of itslack of decent control. In the original, coin-op version, players used a joystick that could move only on thediagonal to hop along cubes, changing their top color. In this version, the existence of the two sticks on thePlayStation analog or dual shock analog controllers is ignored. Instead, you must tilt your controller anduse the D-pad to diagonally move Q*bert across the playing field. Still, the game has an inspired design, with cute characters, funny sound effects, and plenty of power-ups. But the control interface has a hugeimpact on gameplay, and in this case it's negative.--Jeff Young

3-0 out of 5 stars Wierd!
This game is OK! The story is weird and the adventure mode stinks! The classic mode is so much better! The only things wrong with this game is that controlling Q-bert is so hard and it is sort of boring. There just isn't much to do.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oh for a 2600-style joystick
The classic version would be great, if only I could substitute the shoddy PS controller for a real Joystick. As for the 3D adventure version, I find the perspective really wacky. It's sometimes really difficult to guess which way you're supposed to jump. Maybe I'm just less tolerant than I used to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT GAME!
Q*BERT shows why some of the orignal video games are still the best. Its the gameplay that sets them apart.Q*Bert wont dazzle you with graphics or music, but it will have you hooked with its great gameplay. The firstnight I fired this game up I couldn't quit playing it for 2 hours. It iseasily addictive as Tetris, and that is a great thing. There is a littlelearning curve as the control can be a little tricky, however if you areusing a Dual Shock controller, the analog pads are the way to go. I highlyrecommend picking this game up, it is a must own!

4-0 out of 5 stars Guilty pleasure
When I first got this game, I thought it stunk! The graphics are not all that good in the first level of the game, the movement is hard to figure out, and it looked nothing like the old school Q*Bert that I use to playwhen I was a kid.But I kept at it, and the game really grew on me.Afterthe first level, the game gets better and better. You have to jump in 3Dall over Q*Bert land.If you like cheesy games that remind you of yourchildhood, then this game is kinda cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Orange Ball guy!

Few racing games for the PlayStation can approach Need forSpeed III: Hot Pursuit in terms of car selection, track layout, andsheer fun. Combine the game's quality with the fact that it was addedto the PlayStation's bargain Greatest Hits collection, and youhave a title that deserves to be in the library of any racing fan.

Hot Pursuit gets its name from our favorite mode of gameplay, inwhich players try to exceed the reach of the long arm of the law bygreatly exceeding the speed limit. The ultimate goal is to beat youropponent to the finish line, but usually it's hard enough just dodgingoncoming traffic, swerving around police roadblocks (complete withspike strips), and trying to keep pursuit vehicles from slamming youoff the road. It's nearly as fun to watch replays as it is to race, andwe've only discussed one of the game's five types of play. Thisdiverse, fast-paced racer is definitely a keeper. --T. ByrlBaker

Sony delivers one of the best-looking, best-playing rally cargames for the PlayStation with the Codemasters-developed Colin McRaeRally.

Players must pick from 11 world rally cars and play for the best timeson 48 courses in 8 countries, including New Zealand, Greece, and theUnited Kingdom. Racers encounter mud, snow, and gravel--all of whichcollects on cars as each race goes on. The elements can also inflictdamage on your vehicle, which adds to the challenge.

A British codriver guides players through runs, while the rally schoolcan help beginners with their skills. There's even a two-player optionthat can be used with single rally, championship, and time-trialmodes.

Control in this game is great, despite the varying track surfaces andweather conditions, and players even have to manage courses at night.Luckily, gear ratios, tires, brakes, and suspension can be modified tosuit any and all changes. While we won't go as far as to say this gamebeats the classic Gran Turismo, we do believe that McRaeultimately gives GT a run for the money. --Robb Guido

  • Great audio and controls

1-0 out of 5 stars =(
one of the worst racing games ever made.real recomended age- 99-100...if your that old, you won't notice the bad parts of the game, and won't even know ur playing it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Poopy-load" of FUN
This is a great game. One of the best for Rally driving/racing fun.I also have GT2 and even though the tracks and myriad of cars is incredible, the rally portion of the game isn't.If you want to play in the dirt, this is the game to own.

Outstanding all the way - even with the sounds of crinkling glass as you slide into the trees.

Love every moment of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars very realistic
I bought the game a year ago and addicted to it.Tried many other auto games but could not find a better one.Car's reactions to a controller are very realistic. If you get into snow ,car slows down like in a real world orif you dive into mud near the roadside ,that side of wheel pulls that sideetc. Unbelievable. But remember that Americans do not used to rally.Youdon't race against others at the same time, you race against time.So ,buy ityou won't regret. ... Read more

Move over, Tony Hawk. You've got some new competition gunning at you in this game, which features up-and-coming skaters who are both dangerously hip and recklessly rebellious. Endorsed by skating bible Thrasher magazine, this game captures the true spirit, style, and skill of the renegade freestyle street-skating culture. Choose from several skaters, pick an outfit, and then select from one of 12 skateboarding locations, including the Brooklyn Bridge banks or L.A.'s Santa Monica Courthouse. These and other concrete temples are all based on real-life locations.

There are more than 100 tricks to master, which is necessary if you want to unlock secret levels or outrun the donut-eating cops. Since motion-capture technology was used to design the movement of each skater, each special move looks fairly natural when executed. In addition, each environment is completely interactive. For example, you will see leaves fall from a tree if you happen to hit it. Of course, you can also interact with objects to show off your skating skills. We had fun sliding down ramps and jumping over trashcans.

One of the strengths of Thrasher: Skate and Destroy is its phenomenal hip-hop soundtrack, which features icons like Grandmaster Flash, Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Sugar Hill Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, Public Enemy, Stetasonic, and Run-D.M.C. --Carrie Bell

Pros:

  • Endorsed by Thrasher magazine
  • One of the only freestyle skating games on the market
  • Totally interactive environments

4-0 out of 5 stars Thrasher
As a skater, i kind of get tired of tony hawk's crazy unreal skating. This is the perfect solution. The tricks are all real, this is all real skating. Have you ever tryed doing a nice little kickflip fs board, on a handrail in tony hawk? What happens? You're on and your off, no time to enjoy it. But no this game. This game is awesome. I played the demo, and rented the game and absolutly loved it. I was looking for it on ebay for the longest time but i think I'm just going to buy it off here. Great game and i recomend it to everyone skater who is bored of the nonsense of Pro Skater.

5-0 out of 5 stars the only alternative
I love the tony hawk games.I've got all of them and I look forward to the next one... that being said it is important for me to tell you that I have been playing the same game "thrasher" for the entire duration the tony's have been coming out.
maybe it's the video game crime of the century, because there are 5 tony's soon to be 6, and only one thrasher.can you imagine what this game would have turned into in 5 sequels? just the fact that I still play it after 5 years should tell you something.
I'll also tell you that the game is pretty hard, and yeah the fall animations can get annoying.but, that's just it - after you master the controls and flow, and I mean master it, you won't fall for what seems like forever.and when you do fall, you adjust - like the game becoming part of you.
I don't know, but as a skater, I prefer this one over tony, and that's all skaters got, really?

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and REAL
Ok, ill admit it Tony Hawks Pro skater is definently fun with its wacky jobs to perform and the crazy worlds u skate in. I myself skateboard and am gettin kinda tired of the "out of this world" game where u can do jus about ne thing u can think of. Thrasher Skate and Destroy is awesome for the reason its realistic. It's hard, but thats how skateboarding is. You can't go and ollie up 10 stairs and pull of huge combos of tricks on this game or in real life. Id say this game is next best thing to actually skateboarding, gettin chased by pigs, being slammed on some of the tricks, and the overal realism. Ok ive said more then most read lol doubt ne one reads down to here. If you liek skateboarding, this game is for you. (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars awsome game and even better soundtrack
this game is weird, graphics wise, compared to the stunning tony hawks pro skater 1-4, but most that own the game would say they are equal. the fact that the crashes are never the same, unlike tony hawk's pro skater 1-4, makes this game perfect for me. and the soundtrack, lets just say i wish they wouldve put it on cd. note that tony hawk's pro skater moves incredibly fast compared to real life, unlike thrasher, which moves realistically with no extreme sharp turns handling 50 g's with ease (lol).
i have owned this game once before but it went through a lot of abuse from freinds. i have just purchased it again because my copy was damaged beyond repair/use, and the fact that i love the game. i hope you like this game if you buy it, and pay attention to the wrecks cause they are some real comedy.

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST GAME EVER!!
I have played the demo, and I could not believe how horrible this game was.

1. The characters in this game can't skate, they hardly get any air

2. Controls are hard

3. I have to unplug the controller to pause the game (pressing start will start some kind of police chase)

4. When I wipeout, it shows it in slow motion which is really anoying

5. lame soundtrack

if u want a good game then get one of the tony hawk pro skater games, whoever chooses this the best over tony hawk, they must have a monkey controling their brain ... Read more

I am a mother of 6 year old twins and their Dad wanted this for his birthday well, between the 3 of them it is a fight for the controller. It is a fun way to spend a family night together and the action of thecontroller feels as real as it can get when you land a big 365lb lunker.Areal pick me up in the winter when we were just dying to get outdoorsagain.

Initially this game is a fun replacement to summertime fishing. You can choose from a ton of lures, over 20 different "fishin' holes" and test your skill against some tough fish. The graphics are ok, and gamespeed seems pretty realistic. The main downfall is that you do get sick ofit, and the desire to keep coming back to the game just isn't there.Iguess if you are really into fishing, and really into video games - thenyou will be really into this one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game I bought for Playstation 1
Most of the reviews are really positive.

Some have said they lost interest in this game.Did you try the adventure game? For those of you not familiar with this game.THere is the standard race, a twisted metal combat game and as I mentioned the adventure game.

Let me tell you about this game. You start out with a limited cast of players and cars. Some said that the cars are too hard to control, but if you play the adventure game you can win additional cars. You can win additional characters too.And you can win additional tracks. If you make it thru the adventure game you will have all characters and all the cars available for each character.

What is the adventure game you ask?Well, you have a time limit to drive your muppet characters car around and explore. You pick up objects in that time limit. You get all the stars you get sometime. You find one of the racers not currently available...you then race them and if you win that character is available.I mean honestly I can not get into detail enough to tell you everything on this game.Really I rarely have enough interest in a game to finish, but this game I kept with it and I did.

I just received a Playstation 2 and hope this game plays on my playstation 2.I doubt my memory card will work but I will have to play this game through so I have a fully stocked game.

Honestly, in my opinion this was the best game I purchased for my Playstation 1 system in all the year.If you can find it get it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what expected
Having grandkids who love the muppets, I thought this would be a great game. I found they hadlost interest in it quickly (unusual for a playstation game.) The reason was you had to keep your eyes on the screen constantly. The Christmas part was cute and fun, but the others ( 25 characters to choose from) became boring. They still love the Muppets, but gave the game to a friend. I was glad since it was only frustrating them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to control
This game is very difficult and the racers are hard to control.I got this for my daughter as a Christmas gift in 2000 and she was 7-1/2 at that time. She tried to play it several times and has found it very difficult and frustrating to play.I've tried playing it myself and found it very difficult to control. It definately is not a Crash Team Racing, which was easier to play.

Unless you can get this game at a substantially reduced price or for free I wouldn't waste the money on it as it is a difficult game to play & control.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Muppet lover's dream
This is a wonderful game.Although the controls can be very frustrating at times, there is so much to do on every single board, that it takes hours and hours to complete. There are even hidden bosses.I would highly recommend this game to someone who has a good background knowledge of the Muppets. The movie clips are a lot of fun, and there are many voice clips to make it interesting and fun, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun while it lasts
My son saved up his allowance for this.He is 7....My son actually loved it.It's fast paced, real fast paced. You have to be glued to the screen, literally or you will miss something as you race on by.He laughed a lot,but I am pretty sure he never quite figured out what he was doing. He stuck to one area of the game a lot,and I think it may be due to the fact that the other areas were a bit confusing.Thats makes for a difficult decision then. Most 7 year olds are very adept at playing and figuring out video games..... so should I reccomend this?Yes,for the money and the laughs,it's well worth it.In a world filled with many many violent video games, seeing the Muppets zoom on by was rather refreshing for a change. He does not play it a lot,but when he does,he plays for more than 30 minutes if we let him. ... this game is soooooo good. buy it, buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!! the only thing that is missing is franchise mode but it still rocks the world in all it does! the challenge mode is a bit boring but it is truly rewarding once you you unlock a code. nice graphics too. it is worth the money!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Action-Packed Game, But Needs Changes.
When I purchased NBA Live 2001, I was very satisfied. The game is very simple to play and is full of intense action. The graphics are good and the overall gameplay is magnificent. However, the game does has it's fair share of glitches.First off, it's too easy to win a game.I literally had to create a custom team to play against because the regular teams were too easy to beat.Currently, the custom team that I created is my only real competition2.The game could have included a referee or two, because then, the game would have looked more stuctured and organized.3.The game pauses when a player attempts to argue a disputed foul charged agaist him. This is really irritating, and sometimes, the game totally freezes up as a result of this!4.The game still has the same boring look as it's predecessor.I personally think that the game needs a major face lift, i.e., a different arena, more camera agles, player introductions at the beginning of a game, and a combination of game play and announcing at the same time. These features would have made the game more interesting, but overall, the game is a great buy.It is very fast-paced, the crowd effects are extremely realistic, it has a nice variety of gaming options, includes a dynamic soundtrack, and if you use a vibrating controller with it, you will difiniately be able to feel all of the slam dunking and body banging action!I highly recommend this game to any basketball fanatic!

I've played nbalive2001 a whole bunch of times and i think its better than 2000 because of all the cool things that were added to 2001.I think you people should buy this game and enjoy the fun! I like the game because of the all new features and the chance to go 1 on 1 and 5 on 5

4-0 out of 5 stars STILL FUN!!!!!!!
If you enjoyed NBA Live 2000 you will be happy with this one. But if your expecting a whole lot of changes just keep played 2000, because it basically the same thing. I've organized some the highs and lows:

Highs: 1. One of the most entertaining sports games.2. Great gameplay3. you got a lot of options to choose from. Like practice mode, three-point contest, etc.

Lows:1. Same EXACT gameplay as the one in 20002. Same graphics ( the crowd looks better, though)3. Same lame old boring commentary like its older brother4. the faces look really messed up ( some players have teeth sticking out of their faces on close-ups)

Final verdict: If you don't mind the almost same game as last years then buy it. If you want changes, please don't buy it!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars WARNING!!
If you already spoiled yourself by playing the computer version(optimum speed), PS2 version, Dreamcast NBA 2K1--THEN DONT BUY THIS GAME--YOU'LL BE DISSAPOINTED LIKE ME.I've barely played it once after I paid 40 bucks for it.The options are all there, but the graphics and gameplay will haunt you. ... Editorial Review

Jet Moto 2 suffers from many of the same problems as the first Jet Moto. While it is basically just a racing game with an aerial twist, overall playability suffers due to the difficulty of turning at high speeds. As before, different racers ride on aerial jet bikes. Each character has a corporate sponsorship and a different set of advantages and disadvantages. However, no character is easy to master. In addition, you must come in first in each race to advance beyond the first three races. This is plenty difficult, and the muddy graphics don't help much. While the courses add interesting elements such as water, lava, and other obstacles, the proper pathway is often unclear due to poor graphics or badly designed levels.

Overall, this is a fun racing game for the hard-core racing fan, but those who really want to fly are better off with something that offers clearer graphics. Another problem stems from the fact that if you knock another racer off his or her cycle, but the cycle goes forward, then the recent victim of your assault starts where his or her cycle stops. This location is usually in front of you. So it's actually better not to hit them at all. The lack of replays in this version is helpful, and Jet Moto fans will appreciate the upgrade. Still, for a really stellar racing game, look elsewhere. --Allen Stewart

Pros:

  • No boring replays
  • Better graphics than the first Jet Moto
  • A real challenge to win
  • Fun tricks possible
Cons:
  • Jet bike is too hard to control
  • View is awkward and at times confusing
  • Unclear levels--where's the finish line?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Memories of this Game!
I remember every one of them.Action-packed levels, scenic ambiences, adrenaline-pumping music--all in Jet Moto 2.I cannot stress the creativity of the levels---how did they come up with this stuff!! It's amazing!Like one level you'll be looping around a roller coaster type track. Then, later in the game, there's a track called 'Nightmare'---what a dark, gloomy, horrifying track!!It's like you're on this platform in the middle of darkness and you get run over and fall into this huge, dark pit!The Antarctica levels are the greatest of them all.Have you ever heard the music??The best part about it.It's orchestrated, symphonic, heart-racing music.I wish I knew which philharmonic group made this music--it's brilliant.Other levels have orchestrated music too--it's great to listen to.Some of the other levels have rock/orchestra balanced music, so it's not all the same.

The levels aren't like your boring "one-way" levels. There are shortcuts, which really adds to the value of this game.

The sound effects are awe-inspiring.From the heavens to dungeons, the Antarctic to the tropical islands, jungles to steeply sloped snow-covered mountains----this game has entertainment in every level---with very appropriate sound effects....like on the urban part of the first level, aftershock--sirens are wailing; waves from the ocean. It's so realistic.

The moto bikes are awesome.Handling is great, the levels are awesome, not to mention, you can get cheat codes (not gameshark) and unlock the old Jet Moto levels, which is just amazing.I don't care which character I am, or bike, I just love racing these levels. The intensity of racing in this game is very impressionable, which makes this game's value worth your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars High jumps, hard courses, uneven racers
This is a futuristic dirt bike game, where rather than riding dirt bikes, you ride a jet-powered motorcycle. The game starts out being fun racing along exotic 3D courses like a jungle island, an earthquake rattled Los Angeles that has fallen into the sea, a cold mountain passageway and so on. When the player advances past the first few races the game stops being fun and starts getting unnecessarily and frustratingly difficult, because rather than having track borders (like walls) where the racer cannot go past a certain point, the courses further in the game take away those walls so you literally fall off the track. It is also unclear where the finish line is, sometimes you must do a lap around a circular track, and other times you must do a U turn then go back through the track. Then reappear on the track, far behind the other racers. The game is full of jumps, ridiculously high jumps, and while you are in the air you can do flips and tricks. Not any advanced tricks like from Tony Hawk. There are several racers, however the racers are so uneven that you can pick a certain racer and win constantly.

4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Racing Game
Jet Moto 2 has cool tracks. You can race on a roller coaster, in the snow, or in the water. In has about 20 different tracks and about 10 different characters. They have different speeds, handling, and weights. You can race with the computer or another person. I warn you the computer is HARD. Please get this game but don't get Jet Moto 3. I got bored with it in one day.

5-0 out of 5 stars A super cool game , for super cool gamers!
Jet Moto 2 rocks! It was my first game for my playstation, and it rocks!Ten players, with ten different bikes!you can play with two different players! ride on or in: mud , water, snow and concret. you can doimpossible stunts if you have an analog controller! You can flip upsidedown, 180s, possobly 360s, you can even ride through yellow stone, and passby old falthfull! Race on a volcano, and ride through hot lava! But watchout, some tracks you can ride off the side of the tracks, but it's funnybecause you can hear the person screaming! you have unlimited live so youcan die as maney times as you want.Since it is rated K-A, anyone can playit, and i would say anyone who plays it will love It!

2-0 out of 5 stars This Game is Pales in Comparison to the First
This game sucks.I don't say that becasue it's too hard or easy I say it becasue it doesn't live up to the name Jet Moto.Buy the first and then you'll see a real racing game.Buy this and you'll see a recycled, genericracing game with dumb racers and even dumber tracks.Save your money andget the first. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A review from a prudent Dragon Warrior Fan.
I have played so many RPG's, of many platforms.I picked up this game, originally because I LOVE the Dragon Warrior series, and also own all three Gameboy, DW Monster titles. It was something for my collection.
Having said that, let me tell you what this game is like.
If you have played a game called Azure Dreams, then you will feel right at home, here.It uses the same dungen generation interface, leveling system, and trap system. If you've not played Azure Dreams, then I'll explain briefly:
Dundgens are randomly generated, so they are somewhat different each time you enter them, even the same ones. Now, your character level only increases while inside a dungeon, then reverts to level one upon exiting.. so the only way to get stronger permanantly is to find (also randomly located) better weapons/sheilds (yes, only two items to eqip for attack/defence).Some items are eaiser to find in certian dungeons then others, and infact some only appear in certian dungeons.
The story isn't consistant with Dragon Warrior IV (I can't seen when this adventure took place, or even if it's in the Kingdom of Endor *shrugs*) but is still entertaining.I won't lie, it's not exactly the best title out there, and infact I don't recomend it unless you loved, or liked, Azure Dreams, or are willing to attempt something new.
There are many things to unlock in the game, giving it potential replay value, but they are mearly only for enjoyment after the fact.Making it through and beating the game really isn't that strenuous.
Do I like it?well, yes.. but that's just me.Many won't enjoy it at all.PLEASE rent this game if you can.. though I'm not sure if it's even carried by Rental places anymore.Though in retrospect, it's very cheap to find used if you just want something to pass time by.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar game
I love this kind of game as it reminds me of Fatal Labyrinth on the Sega Genesis. It plays more similar however to Chocobo's Dungeon 2 on the Playstation. However this time around you play as Torneko the middle-aged looking, chubby man with a bushy mustache and beanie instead of the yellow Squaresoft bird.

For those of you who have never played Fatal Labyrinth, Chocobo's Dungeon, or even Azure Dreams, the game works like this, it's a semi-overhead view of a field and everyone in it gets their turn when you take yours. So, if you don't move or attack, chances are no one else does either, unless you are sleeping or have some other status ailment. You have to actually get close to your enemy to attack unless you have arrows or magic. You level up as in any traditional RPG but the levels do not carry over each time you enter a dungeon. This may make it sound difficult, but each of the entry floors are rather easy and get more difficult as you progress throughout that dungeon. In later dungeons after the practice ones, there are invisible traps laid out on the floor that you can find by waving your weapon over them, or by means of a certain scroll. There are stores within the dungeon randomly placed wherein a Gargoyle guard watches over. There are several ways to steal from the store, however, which the game even goes over if you speak to the right person in town. Also, if you die in a dungeon before you complete it or find alternate means of leaving (having a priest teleport you, outside scroll, etc.) you lose all items and gold you had on you in the dungeon. Finally, As time passes you gain regain lost hp, but if you spend too much time on one floor (2,000 turns) a gale force blows you out as if you had died.

All in all, a typical turn based random/mysterious dungeon game, but a good one in my opinion. If you liked Chocobo's Dungeon 2, you will probably like this game. Also, it's nice to fight some of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Warrior monsters, though they appear pre-rendered 2-d. The level-up music is nostalgic to me, also.

1-0 out of 5 stars The reviews did this game justice!!!
I had already bought this game and THEN read the reviews before I opened it.Since I have two younger children, haven't been playing the "newer" console games that long and can put up with some less than perfect graphics -I thought that we would like this even though the reviews said it was bad.The pictures on the front of the game and the description make it sound like any normal battle the little monster game with a little storyline. They showed cute little characters in the movie part that introduced the plot.Even when the game began, the characters looked similiar to Fisher Price Little People toys.
and then....it began. This has to be the most annoying attempt at a game that I have ever seen.If any of you remember the game DigDug, that is what this reminds me of.Your adventures all look the same - like a green rat maze that creates itself as you go along. They do give you a map on the screen so you'll find your way but its not like you're gonna get to go anywhere outside of the little rat trap.I'm thinking that dig dug had the right idea, if I had a tire pump and a little energy I would attach it to this game and blow it up.
Please read these reviews, take them seriously, this is horrible!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars *stunned silence*
I wouldn't give this game a second glance if it had a sign saying it was cased along with $1,000,000. Garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Torneko: The Last Hope is amazing. This game's great graphics, wonderful music, driving plot, and fun engine make this game a sure bet. In case you didn't know, Torneko was the merchant in Dragon Warrior IV, and this game expands greatly on him and his whole style of play. ... Read more
