Yes, I agree with some critics that the talking alarm clock was a bit babyish but he didn't appear very often other than to give hints on what to do in certain parts of the game. At least you didn't have put up with his voice for very long which I have to admit reminded me of someone with perpetually blocked sinuses! The story is as follows. NiteKap, the villain of the game just can't get to sleep. He decides that if he can't get some shuteye the why should any body else get a good night's sleep? He sends Threadbear, his cute but evil teddy-bear sidekick to capture the Winks; these are little creatures that give people good dreams. Instead he turns most of the of the Winks into Hood-Winks who are little green little critters that give make sure that no can sleep because all dreams will become nightmares! However there are still 40 Winks left but they are held captive and it is the player's job to rescue them and save the world from everlasting nightmares! To move from level to level you must unlock doors, so along with freeing the Winks you have to collect cogs to open doors as well as find 12 keys to put into a clock, thus enabling you to battle it out with Threadbear and Co. for fate of the sleeping world, The two characters you can play as are great. Ruff and Tumble are their names and I especially liked the fact you could batter your adversaries into oblivion with either a candleholder or a teddy bear! Some of the characters you can become were fun too, the Caveman, a Monster, a Ninja, a Robot and my favourite Curryman and his little sidekick Manic Mongoose. You don't get a chance to be him until RIGHT at the end of the game, which is a real bummer. This game is one of Playstation's "nice" games. There isn't any blood and gore; the most frightening things you will come across are cartoon like zombies, spiders and green furry Winks to name but a few and let's be honest here, they aren't that frightening! The graphics are great, even better when played on Playstation 2, but I like my old trusty Playstation One so this is where it gets played most often! Learning to manoeuvre your character through the many differing levels takes practice but once you get the hang of it there will be no stopping you. I like the fact you can play this with a friend, but also on your own. All in all this is a smashing little game. Not to everyone's taste but I think it is great, especially as you can often pick one up quite cheaply. ADDITION 4th Feb 2003 With Playstation 2 Games becoming the norm now-a-days it would be wise for any fan of 40 Winks (or any other Playstation One Game) to start stocking up their shelves.A lot of games will be transfered to Playstation 2 but not all of them.Somehow I can't see the likes of 40 Winks EVER going onto Playstation 2 format which is a real shame.
If you have patience to try and figure this one out then go for it, but in all honesty I would not recommend purchasing this item, not even at a fantastic deal.Unless, of course, someone gives it to you for free. ... Read more

The control is fair but not good. The camra angles hardly ever get confusing. The game is also not for starters because to has its moments of blood and gore and because of the extreme difficulty. The gameplay is good and very straight foward. But a big problem is that the dinosaurs are not as rough and tough as they are in the movie. The raptor can't maul people the way he can in the movie. The T-rex is also a big problem it is a walking battle tank but he is a BIG target for people to shoot at with there heavy artily. The humans arn't as tough as they are in the Compy, Raptor, or T-rex section. Also a thing that makes me mad when I get really far you cant save at all in the game you still use stupid PASSWORDS.So all in all reant this game first and see if you like it or if every game is like to easy for you(if you want a challenge try Fear Effect) but if you found Fear Effect to easy then try this game.

I vaguely remember that I liked the game Speedball way back when I had an Amiga computer, and thought I'd give this one a shot even though it got a few bad reviews - especially since you can get it for cheap now. Admittedly the first couple of times I played I nearly agreed that the game should renamed "Slowball." If you go right into a game without checking out any of the options, it feels like the players are running through molasses. The deal is this: Anyway, beyond player upgrades, more about the game: The game also includes a "Team Manager" function, which allows you to act as manager rather than player in the games. You select your team members, upgrade them as you see necessary, and then sit back and watch as the team plays games on their own so you can see the results of your management. The graphics I would rate as "average" I guess - there's nothing really special about them - most of the game is an overhead view of the players - but they work. The game does have some quirks - All in all, despite the little quirks this is a great game that I've found myself playing for a good couple hours at a shot (which is a lot of play considering that's all in intense 3-minute increments!)
Even worse, SB is UNforgivably unplayable, and for a game called "Speed" ball, the players are so slow. There is a GM function, but this game is so bad, who cares? What a shame. With a little effort this game could be great. Instead, the makers figured at the low price, you could regurgitate it and land a few nostalgia gamers and cheapskate curiosity seekers. With 4 next generation systems to be on the market in a few months, marketing a game like "Speedball 2100" as a stand alone product at this point in time has to be called into question. At any price. -Dan Moreland ... Read more

This gameis what PSX is all about.
The graphics are bigger and bolder in VR2, and the action isfaster. You will actually see other cars on the track and race them rim torim, unlike CMR where racing is done strictly by stage, without ever seeingother cars on the road.VR2 is more difficult, though not impossible.AndVR2 has one feature that seperates it from CRM: a track creator.Gettingbored with the same old tracks?Just make your own.Sorta takes one backto Excitebike on 8-bit NES.CRM seems to be more of a simulation, anddeeper than VR2, with many things to learn, in addition to someGran-Turismo-esque "license tests". And that might be thedeciding factor, are you more inclined to play an arcade-style rally game(a la Sega Rally) or do you want a game that has less flash, but moresubstance (a la Gran Turismo). Both games are tremendous (yeah, I haveboth) but unless you're a true rally racing freak, you could easily settlefor one of the two.The choice is yours.
My only gripe is that I find the tracks a bit too narrow which doesn'tallow me to drive all out. Expect to slow down quite a bit around turns andavoiding crashing into opponents, but on clear straightaways you can getsome really good speed. Overall, a great game for racing game fans anddefinitely one to pick up. ... Read more

Now to those of you who arelooking for a naval strategy game, simulating vessels from PT Boats on upto the Aircraft Carriers, this game will not pass morning quartersinspection. The hydrodynamics (movement over, under, and through thewater) was not only unrealistic...it was comical.Although the aircraftcarriers did not turn on a dime, they were still swifter than any vesselDennis Connor ever skippered! Time, tide and formation...save your moneyfor (hopefully) a better game to come...or a yacht rental in the Chesapeakeor San Francisco Bay.

But not only that there made by an excellent company (Sony) there the most durable i believe, and i've abused mine over the years enough, i was shocked it didn't break, even one that i had the Analog stick broke off, AND IT STILL WORKED!!!! Not too mention you get a pretty descent sized cord, all the buttons mesh, those don't short out either (unless liquid is spilled on it), the dual shock motor lasts a long time as well. So weither it be Red, Emerald Green, Ice Blue, or Standard Grey, the official Sony Controller is the best on the market. And as you no doubt guessed the PSOne brand Dual Shock is exactly the same as the older PSX controllers, only it says PSOne, and there all intercompatable. I picked Red cause it's my favorite color :)

My four-year-old son can play this game, fairly well on beginner, and actually not come in last place (which keeps it exciting for him). But in the same manner, I have some excellent competition for me when it's set to pro (I don't give up easily, but the computer is pretty fair considering). Overall, I was very pleased and satisfied with the game's performance. The reduced price also helped a lot with the decision to buy this versus a newer and more expensive game.
