4-0 out of 5 stars Worth looking for!
I stumbled onto 40 Winks late in the day; my path to video game fan was paved with SuperMario World for the Super NES and Croc for the PS1.While my boys were busy playing next gen games (PS2, XBox, GCube), I inherited a PS1 and started trying out obscure PS1 games in search of that magic combination that made Croc great (where are you now, little Croc?).Spyro is real cute, too.Anyway, I was buying weird PS1 games, and 40 Winks is a real TREAT!The graphics aren't the greatest and the movements are not as smooth as one might like in this PS2 era, but you get used to them after a few rounds.I played 40 Winks a few minutes a day for a few weeks, and it is awesome! The story is too cute, but you get to fight guys with no blood and no cursing, the levels are repetitive but can be challenging, and best of all, while you collect several different things throughout the game you're freeing the Winks from the evil Threadbare.I like a game where it is possible to do every little thing. Finally, this is a game that is just fun, with no horror or negativity, that one can enjoy playing after a tough day at the office. So many games now are dark and noirish, if not just plain mean and ugly...this is a respite from all that negativity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kid at heart!
I found this at a clearance rack and took a chance for my 3 1/2 year old...it's been a year and he loves it STILL. Of course I limit the amount of time in front of PS1...it's a treat to him to play once a week or so. The graphics are great - it's funny and really enjoyable throughout. Many levels and little discoveries along the way. I couldn't stand it so I cheated and found out some tricks in order to unlock all of the doors, etc. Even with help...it's still enjoyable over and over again. I recommend this for all ages!

1-0 out of 5 stars A Little Leary
I purchased this game for my daughter for her birthday. The game received great reviews and I assumed because it was rated E for Everyone that i was okay.I ordered the game and received it 3 days later (pretty fast), and was disappointed. The review does not go into detail about the object of the game.I never unwrapped the game but the color cover enclosured displays a skelton and monsters and tells the story of how this evil guy is trying to steal sleep from the children and give everyone nightmares. This may be a great game for older children, but I certainly would not purchae it for a younger group. It has a slightly evil undertone, that I was not comfortable with as a parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like this game!
Okay, so 40 Winks isn't the most awe-inspiring game that you can put into your PlayStation console but it isn't the worst by far.

Yes, I agree with some critics that the talking alarm clock was a bit babyish but he didn't appear very often other than to give hints on what to do in certain parts of the game. At least you didn't have put up with his voice for very long which I have to admit reminded me of someone with perpetually blocked sinuses!

The story is as follows. NiteKap, the villain of the game just can't get to sleep. He decides that if he can't get some shuteye the why should any body else get a good night's sleep? He sends Threadbear, his cute but evil teddy-bear sidekick to capture the Winks; these are little creatures that give people good dreams. Instead he turns most of the of the Winks into Hood-Winks who are little green little critters that give make sure that no can sleep because all dreams will become nightmares! However there are still 40 Winks left but they are held captive and it is the player's job to rescue them and save the world from everlasting nightmares!

To move from level to level you must unlock doors, so along with freeing the Winks you have to collect cogs to open doors as well as find 12 keys to put into a clock, thus enabling you to battle it out with Threadbear and Co. for fate of the sleeping world,

The two characters you can play as are great. Ruff and Tumble are their names and I especially liked the fact you could batter your adversaries into oblivion with either a candleholder or a teddy bear! Some of the characters you can become were fun too, the Caveman, a Monster, a Ninja, a Robot and my favourite Curryman and his little sidekick Manic Mongoose. You don't get a chance to be him until RIGHT at the end of the game, which is a real bummer.

This game is one of Playstation's "nice" games. There isn't any blood and gore; the most frightening things you will come across are cartoon like zombies, spiders and green furry Winks to name but a few and let's be honest here, they aren't that frightening! The graphics are great, even better when played on Playstation 2, but I like my old trusty Playstation One so this is where it gets played most often! Learning to manoeuvre your character through the many differing levels takes practice but once you get the hang of it there will be no stopping you. I like the fact you can play this with a friend, but also on your own.

All in all this is a smashing little game. Not to everyone's taste but I think it is great, especially as you can often pick one up quite cheaply.

ADDITION 4th Feb 2003

With Playstation 2 Games becoming the norm now-a-days it would be wise for any fan of 40 Winks (or any other Playstation One Game) to start stocking up their shelves.A lot of games will be transfered to Playstation 2 but not all of them.Somehow I can't see the likes of 40 Winks EVER going onto Playstation 2 format which is a real shame.

2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult, need guide book.
I bought this game for my daughter and she get's very frustrated with this game!It is difficult for a child to figure out what to do next.I wish we had a guide book/hint book for this game as it would make it a lot easier during those very (and I do mean very) frustating times!

If you have patience to try and figure this one out then go for it, but in all honesty I would not recommend purchasing this item, not even at a fantastic deal.Unless, of course, someone gives it to you for free. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A supa stunning perfect dino game
Words cannot describe this fantastik game.
It's made in a way, that just captures you, the graphic is stunning and the sound is wonderful. Though this game is really hard especially while your T-rex, playing T-rex is nearly impossible the raptors attacks from every side but you'll find a way 2 get through it. You'll start out as compy, the first 5 levels are not so hard but then you'll be huntet by are big dinosaur also nearly impossible to get through. But all in all it's a WONDERFUL, STUNNING, SUPER-GREAT playstation game.
GO AND BUY THIS GAME NOW DON'T WAIT. ( You should also buy:
Jurrasic Park 1, Jurrassic Park 2 and Jurrasic Park 3 ).

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the PSX's best
I own DinoCrisis 2,which is one of the best dino games ever made.I also used to own Lost World, but I sold it.I earned all the secrets, and I mastered the game. That was when it came out,now I miss it,and I just ordered a new copy of "Special Edition" from someone in the marketplace.
This game is great, with some of the best graphics and sound that the PSX is capable of.The game is hard, but possible. However,THE hardest part of the game is BY FAR the T-Rex game. The raptors just keep coming, and wear you down, but his later levels are cool, since you get to fight the hunters.
My personal favorite part of the game is when you play as the InGen Hunter. This game is very fun,and I plan to play the heck outta it again when my new special edition arrives.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game ever !
This game is very cool.I recommend it for those of you that like the game. The gameplay and graphics are really top notch. The characters movements are fluid and realistic. The skin of the dinos looks really cool. This game is very hard to beat though, and playing as Sarah Harding and you are being chased by predators likr Velociraptors. It is a nearly impossible game.

4-0 out of 5 stars to darn hard
This game has enough visual flash and amazing sound score that its almost enough to make you pee your pants! As I said the game has good graphics and sound but thats not all to the package. You also get extremly difficult levels(I beat the game in hard mode and it freakin took forever)!Aside from that the game is really good.

The control is fair but not good. The camra angles hardly ever get confusing. The game is also not for starters because to has its moments of blood and gore and because of the extreme difficulty. The gameplay is good and very straight foward. But a big problem is that the dinosaurs are not as rough and tough as they are in the movie. The raptor can't maul people the way he can in the movie. The T-rex is also a big problem it is a walking battle tank but he is a BIG target for people to shoot at with there heavy artily. The humans arn't as tough as they are in the Compy, Raptor, or T-rex section. Also a thing that makes me mad when I get really far you cant save at all in the game you still use stupid PASSWORDS.So all in all reant this game first and see if you like it or if every game is like to easy for you(if you want a challenge try Fear Effect) but if you found Fear Effect to easy then try this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth the money
i rented this game and i loved it. i thought it was really funny how they made a game out of adult softball. it was really cool because you could create your own team or pick from one of the coed, womens, or all men's team available. it is a really fun game and definatly worth the price, and a whole bunch of fun w/ a friend of equal ability. the only draw back is there are only two modes, tournament and single game, and the graphics aren't too great. but on the other hand you don't really need great graphicsfor it to be fun. overall i think this is a great game at a great price, adn i think it should be in any sports fanatics collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly fun - especially for the price
My 9 year old son is a sports fanatic and asked for this game. I was hesitant because of the price, but bought it anyway - because of the price! It turned out to be very fun! You choose your team, it can be all boy, allgirl, or mixed, and you can play full games and championships. Everyone hasstats, and you can build your own team, save it, and play against a myriadof other teams. My son loves this game, and I enjoy watching it. I highlyrecommend this, especially for the value you get.

1-0 out of 5 stars IT is a very amateur baseball game
No one would have fun playing because people would be selecting there player, and people wold fight for who gets Sammy Sosa. who would you rather be Sammy Sosa...Or "Scarlet"I wold not recomend this game

4-0 out of 5 stars Softball
A unique approach to your average baseball game. Game play seems to be for the younger sports fans. A nice beginner game for the beginner playstation owner. Has the ability to speed up with experence. This game has a morecomic approach than realistic .Fun game to play with younger children orin a party setting. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Hours of entertainment
I'm not one for sports type games but this one was so much fun.The characters that you get to choose from is where the fun comes from. The real fun of the single player game is contained in the game's championship mode. Here, you'll select a boxer whose stats will be extremely low. You'll have to work the boxer through the ranks, through three classes. You can fight for cash prizes and then spend the cash on the training of your boxer. The training takes form in a series of little minigames.Do extremely well in the minigames, and you'll get an even higher bonus to your stats. As you move through the ranks, you'll unlock more boxers in the championship mode, and you'll eventually unlock the bosses for play in the arcade mode. The boxers' faces get banged up after a few rounds and their personalities shine through in the ring introductions. The sound of the crowd, including shouts of encouragement from the corner men, brings a lot to the game's atmosphere.Since it's a few years old.. it's a cheap game now but it's one to have in your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars A FUN GAME
THis is a fun game and has lots of different things to do.Different boxers and bonus players. Its a great gameto buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not to easy.
I thought this game was bad. There is unlockable characters and everything. But there is just no way to win 7 fights. You have to hit the computer a million times with jabs and it will probably lead to a knockdown. You have use this system because the computer crowds you and takes over the fight. If all you want is graphics by all means take, but if you want something more this is a rental style rumble.

4-0 out of 5 stars afro thunder's patna
i've been trying for so very long 2 find out how to knock the referee out the ring, if not that at least hit him... how can i just hit him????

5-0 out of 5 stars michael (The king) feldmanBEST BUY!
This is the best game of all time. All of the boxers improved in terms of graphics. Ready 2 Rumble 2 is the best fighting game on playstation and arguably the best playstation game of all time. I like this game because there are no rules. It is the NFL Blitz 2001 for boxing. it is phat and cool.Pick Afro Thunder. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

EA's Madden NFL 2003 maintains the series' status as one of the most engaging game franchises ever. This perennial favorite has updated everything from the spanking new venues (including the Seattle Seahawks Stadium) to the ability to now list pre-existing injuries to current players. If you haven't played previous versions, learning all the controls can be a daunting task. You can control everything from calling audibles to throwing a touch or bullet pass--all while the play clock runs down. But half the fun of this game is in the level of detail you can control, including off-season drafts and free-agent signings, game time, weather, and sensitivity to penalties. Madden NFL 2003 has taken video sports gameplay beyond the action on the field--although the gameplay is seamless and the graphics are impressive on the Xbox. They've created a world where you are equally the owner, general manager, coach, and player. The time and attention you must dedicate to creating your team, along with superbly realistic gameplay and sportscasting, immerse you in your team's fate, making the action all the more compelling. --Sung Nicholas Kim

2-0 out of 5 stars Same Game
This game is the exact same game as last year. From the main menu to the gameplay. I was shocked how similar Madden 2003 is to 2002. The only thing different is the soundtrack and the addition of the Texans with it's new divisions. You also have rookies in the game like David Carr and Joey Harrington, which 2002 doesn't have. But everthing else is the same. The franchise mode, custom league, season mode, practice, etc.
I often find Madden saying the same sentence three plays in a row, and then not say anything for the rest of the game. Its more like Al Michaels 2003.
It also could be harder. I went 16-0 and won the Super Bowl my first season on All-Madden. I did a Franchise and decided to trade some of my players to other teams only to find out that the computer was incredibly stupid. You can get pretty much anybody you want if you offer them a draft pick.
If I were you, I would buy this game, but make it the last Madden game you buy on playstation one.

3-0 out of 5 stars New Madden, basically same old game
I purchased this game yesterday and after playing it I didn't notice anything different from last year's version, it plays the same. Other than updated rosters, the realigned divisons, a few touched up uniforms like The Redskins and Seahawks have now and the newer stadiums like in New England and Pittsburgh. Call me crazy, but I was sort of disappointed that the new Seahawks Stadium wasn't added! it looks like the one from last year. Al Michaels does the commentary along with Madden this year, which is cool, but could be better. Madden doesn't appear as repetitve (so far anyway) as in 2001 and 2002, but still says some of the same things. All the same options from last year are still there, including Madden Classic mode again with the old 16 bit version which may have been a nice little touch last year but I didn't care at all seeing it in this game again, it looks exactly the same as well. It's still a good game, but I seemed to expect a bit more from what is probably the last of Madden on PSone, but I suppose this is as good as it gets, depending on NFL Gameday 2003. I recommend it if you don't already own 2002. If you do, then rent this one out first and see if it's worth the 40 bucks. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast moving, furious sports action
Speedball is an arena game that almost reminds me of what hockey would be like if the players ran on foot and carried the puck. Except more violent.

I vaguely remember that I liked the game Speedball way back when I had an Amiga computer, and thought I'd give this one a shot even though it got a few bad reviews - especially since you can get it for cheap now.
And I'm glad I did!

Admittedly the first couple of times I played I nearly agreed that the game should renamed "Slowball." If you go right into a game without checking out any of the options, it feels like the players are running through molasses.

The deal is this:
Before you enter any game, you get the option to "upgrade" your team as a whole or individual players. As you might guess, one of the most important upgrades you can buy is "speed"!
After discovering this and upgrading speed and other attributes (such as aggression, strength, throwing, intelligence, etc) the game will be pretty fast right from the start, and keeps getting faster as you progress through the game - in later rounds it gets so fast it's hard to keep up with the game!

Anyway, beyond player upgrades, more about the game:
The goal of the game is to score more points than the other team, which can be scored in a variety of ways. The main way is to score a goal on the other team. More points can be scored by injuring other players or hitting targets on the walls. As another way to rack up points, on each side of arena is a "ramp" you can attempt to get the ball into, which multiplies the points you get when you score afterwards.
Also, various "power-ups" are located in the arena, which can do things like temporarily freeze the opposing team, make you immune to attacks, or increase your team's abilities.
Each game last three minutes, with two 90-second halves. This doesn't sound like much, but with the intensity of gameplay that this game can get to, believe me it's plenty - and it's also nice in that it allows you to progress through the game at a fairly decent rate.
Game play modes include an elimination mode, and a "Cup" or tournament mode. Cup mode is definitely the best way to play the game.
Two player mode is supported, but I haven't really had a chance to try that out yet.

The game also includes a "Team Manager" function, which allows you to act as manager rather than player in the games. You select your team members, upgrade them as you see necessary, and then sit back and watch as the team plays games on their own so you can see the results of your management.
Personally, I like to play a game, not watch it, so this is boring for me, but I guess some out there might like it.

The graphics I would rate as "average" I guess - there's nothing really special about them - most of the game is an overhead view of the players - but they work.
The sounds are very good in this game - all the sounds you would expect both in the arena (the -clang- as the metal ball ricochets off the wall, grunts as players get tackled, etc) and from the crowd - cheering on as the game starts.. even an "AWWWW!" from the crowd when your shot at the goal is blocked at the last second by the goalie.

The game does have some quirks -
For one, it always fires up my controller in analog mode, but won't let me actually control the players until I switch it back to digital. Not a big deal.
The selection of the player you control at any given time is determined by which one is closest to the ball. When you don't have control of the ball, this can change at any given second, and this can throw you for a loop now and then - in fact it can be frustrating until you get the hang of it.
Also, the game doesn't offer to save the game for you as you progress through a tournament - to save, you have to manually exit the tournament, go back to the main menu, go to the memory card menu, hit save, and then go back into the tournament. It does auto-load your game next time though.
The instructions that come with the game are rather lacking and don't go into much detail about pretty much anything. Most aspects of the game I learned more from tinkering with the various menus than I did from the manual.

All in all, despite the little quirks this is a great game that I've found myself playing for a good couple hours at a shot (which is a lot of play considering that's all in intense 3-minute increments!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Splendid
This game is terrific.I loved this original game because of teh fast-paced action that left me on the edge of my seat the whole time.It was a great game in which I was entirely astonished at the great fun the game offered. The above was just a joke, I lied. This game was absolutely terrible.I played for hours and hours trying to figure out how to play.I was so frustrated that I immediatley ripped it oout and I threw it at my dog.It cracked and I bought a new one but was left with the same mind-boggling experience. What a waste of dough.I could have spent that precious money on a few M&Ms or something.Very disspointing. However, I developed a liking for the game after all my games except Jimmy White's 2 and Speedball 2100 broke in a tornado. So i again started playeing Speedball 2100.I played speedily for over 2100 hours, but I decided that the game was quite ridiculous. The sound effects distract you when you are trying to win and teh features are quite lacking. The graphics are quite intriguing but lack deepth. Therefore, I gave up on the game and cut the game into miniscule pieces and listened to some atracs. It was a good call.I never played it again but went back to my true favorite Jimmy White's Cue Ball 2.The game of Speedball 2100 is a mysterious endeavor in which I was very dissapointed at how the game was so goofy.I thought it would be like soccer, but I was fooled by the vague name.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment
Stay away from this game even if you loved in on the Amiga. The game should be renamed "Slowball 1984" for it's speed and graphics.I'm really surprised others rated this well.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a mess
"Speedball 2100" is a remake being offered by Empire as part of it's value priced catalog. While 3-D has been added, the makers wanted to keep the spirit of the original. After playing the game, I ask: "Why?". In a half-baked effort to "upgrade" to 3-D, the players look like road kill. The graphics are dark and dull, and so is the sound.

Even worse, SB is UNforgivably unplayable, and for a game called "Speed" ball, the players are so slow. There is a GM function, but this game is so bad, who cares?

What a shame. With a little effort this game could be great. Instead, the makers figured at the low price, you could regurgitate it and land a few nostalgia gamers and cheapskate curiosity seekers.

With 4 next generation systems to be on the market in a few months, marketing a game like "Speedball 2100" as a stand alone product at this point in time has to be called into question. At any price. -Dan Moreland ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Most fun I had in a racing game
At first there was High Stakes, which I loved, but now I beated all the tournaments and special events with gold trophies, I was a little bored out. When I first bought V-Rally 2, it was just a waste of time and money, I was playing High Stakes instead and V-Rally 2 was just collecting dust. Then I tried it again, this time it was much different, it was much more fun than I thought. I tried all modes, arcade, championship, etc. and when I was racing with a friend, it was the most fun I had in a racing game! The game is pretty tight! Recommend to all you racing fans out there. EA does a wonderful job with it's racing sims!

4-0 out of 5 stars Now this is cool racing !
When I first started playing this, I was bothered by the tendancy of the car to flip whenever hitting angled terrain. Once I learned to drivehowever, this game hit the spot for my racing hunger. I love racing, Ican't get enough of it on PC or PSX, and this is #1 for PSX for me (TreadMarks is my PC fave right now). With the wide selection of cars and tracks, this can't be beat for a wide flavor of racing. On top of the racingvariety, there are the types of gameplay. You can go arcade for that"I just need a racing fix" feeling, or play Tournament,head-to-head, or World Champion. World Championship has the best depth asyou actually have to perform repairs on your car, and you pay for thoserepairs with racing minutes, which effect your world ranking.

This gameis what PSX is all about.

4-0 out of 5 stars So close to what's-his-name it's uncanny
If you're looking for a rally racing experience on PSX, you've got many choices, but the top 2 are definitely Colin McRae Rally (from Sony) andthis, V-Rally 2 from EA.My advice, don't get both, as it is absolutelybizarre how many similarities there are between the titles.I won't gointo detail, but it's obvious that the 2 titles knew of each other'sexistence.

The graphics are bigger and bolder in VR2, and the action isfaster. You will actually see other cars on the track and race them rim torim, unlike CMR where racing is done strictly by stage, without ever seeingother cars on the road.VR2 is more difficult, though not impossible.AndVR2 has one feature that seperates it from CRM: a track creator.Gettingbored with the same old tracks?Just make your own.Sorta takes one backto Excitebike on 8-bit NES.CRM seems to be more of a simulation, anddeeper than VR2, with many things to learn, in addition to someGran-Turismo-esque "license tests".

And that might be thedeciding factor, are you more inclined to play an arcade-style rally game(a la Sega Rally) or do you want a game that has less flash, but moresubstance (a la Gran Turismo). Both games are tremendous (yeah, I haveboth) but unless you're a true rally racing freak, you could easily settlefor one of the two.The choice is yours.

5-0 out of 5 stars V Rally2
I have all the EA Racing games. This is the best yet. Most real feel, best ARCADE play.I got this in June of 2000.Before this program i got Porsche Unleashed in April. As my skill with Unleashed progressed, so didmy pleasure playing the game.Since i got V Ralley 2, i have not evenlooked back at Unleashed. There is no comparison.V Ralley is one of themost FUN games i have ever played.CONGRATS to EA!

4-0 out of 5 stars The best rally racing game for the PSX.
I didn't like the first V-Rally much because of how easily your car flips over or spin out, but V-Rally 2 is a big improvement over the first game. The gameplay is still challenging and if you're not careful, you'll stillfind your car flipping over, but it's not as bad as in the first game. Graphics are way better, and with an Arcade mode, Trophy Mode, andChampionship mode to play through, as well as a good bunch of cars tochoose from and unlock, this game will keep you coming back again andagain. Gameplay is improved as success races depend on how well you swerveyour car in the turns rather than how well you use the parking brake fromthe first game. Car and driving options are great so you can adjust how thecar performs to your liking and you'll find that V-Rally 2 offers plentymore camera views than most other driving games out there including V-Rally1.

My only gripe is that I find the tracks a bit too narrow which doesn'tallow me to drive all out. Expect to slow down quite a bit around turns andavoiding crashing into opponents, but on clear straightaways you can getsome really good speed.

Overall, a great game for racing game fans anddefinitely one to pick up. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars kind of a early GTA3
this game is no where near as good as GTA3 but it is kind of like it the controls are set up similarly to tomb raider the game was fun but i didn't like how you had to pass a driving test and a physical test on the game before you could do missions

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Different gameplay
I dont understand why this game has such a bad rep. Its like a early version of grand theft auto. You get almost complete freedom, you get to be the good guy or the bad guy, or the crooked cop. I never had a problem with the graphics, and the voice overs are pretty good. I would recommend this game, its pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Urban Chaos
In Urban Chaos you are a cop called Darci Stern. But in some levels you are a criminal called Mako. The graphics are not the best ones but the gameplay is good. You get most weapons by etheir killing or arresting the gang members ( or Neds as we call them in Scotland). In most levels you have a gun in some levels you must find them or kill for them. The freeform nature of the game means you can explore the area you are in. The weapons include shotguns, pistols, knifes, M16 machine guns and a baseball bat. In Mako's levels you kill the police and can murder innocent people and steal peoples cars (you can also steal cars and kill innocent people in Darci's levels as well).
I am glad the Wildcat gang is'nt here in Ayr. This is a great game from the makers of Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver and I would recommend this to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME
Total [junk], Complete Waste of money-All I have to say.
Giving this game a star is a waste of a star.

4-0 out of 5 stars For all the girls who love video games!
When times get rough in the city here comes Darcey. Darcey is a cop that works out on the streets and looks for a gang called the Wildcats, she destroys thier weapons and some of thier gang members. Darcey also has a partner named Roper that helps her throughout the missions. So girls if you like to play games that put the girls on top and guys on the bottom you'll love this game. I gave this game four stars because it doesn't have the best grahics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MY WAYS
BattleStations is a great game. I love all the strategy in it too.I think that it's realistic and fast. My favorite battle is PT Boat vs.PT Boat.I also like how the fleets are very balanced.
Your hands need to be quick if you want to win. And one more thing be prepared for the immposible!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This was the best 2 player game I've ever played!!!!
When i first rented this game it didn't look like much but as soon as i started playing it with my brother i loved it. If you like beating the pants off of other people and having lots of fun while doing so, buy battle-stations, trust me, you wont regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Review on Battlestations by Destroyer_df
If you Battleship, then you will enjoy Battlestations. Even if you are like me. You will like it too. I'm not into games like Battlestations, but I enjoy playing it and after I played it a few times. I got used to it. I hope there is other game in the making, but the next one should morelike being in a real battle with planes, tanks, submarines, and options thatwould allow ground fighting among soldiers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Annapolis Grads Will Want Their Money Back
Battlestations is a great game (don't short-quote me) for young kids whose dad or mom is in the Navy. They'll get a rudimentary understanding of the various vessels of our naval fleets, with a very cursory look at eachvessel's armament and characteristics.

Now to those of you who arelooking for a naval strategy game, simulating vessels from PT Boats on upto the Aircraft Carriers, this game will not pass morning quartersinspection. The hydrodynamics (movement over, under, and through thewater) was not only unrealistic...it was comical.Although the aircraftcarriers did not turn on a dime, they were still swifter than any vesselDennis Connor ever skippered!

Time, tide and formation...save your moneyfor (hopefully) a better game to come...or a yacht rental in the Chesapeakeor San Francisco Bay.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for the whole family!
If you are a child or an adult that loves battle games than you should try "Battlestations"!Not buying this game would be a MISTAKE!I have played the game "Battlestations" at least twenty-five times. I am an expert at it.It is a great game and you will have fun with therealistic seens and background music. This game should be rated one of thebest games around!Thank you for letting me share my ideas with you.Ihope you enjoy the game! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good start for a good franchise.
In my eyes, this (as well as NFS2) is one of the best racing games ever made. At least, one that kept me playing for a long time. Graphics are only so-so by today's standards, but very well acceptable, still. Also, it will probably not run on your Pentium 4/Windows XP system, so dig out an old Pentium to play. DosBox might work too (dosbox.sf.net), but I haven't tested it (yet).

Anyway, bottom line - a classic racing game, everyone who loves NFS (or racing games in general) should play this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best...
While the Gran Turismo series is the best racing game/sim out there, Need For Speed(the first one only) still has the best inside car view. Most other games, graphically speaking, are much more refined than NFS, but only NFS has a display of the car's dashboard when playing in first person view. Each car's dashboard and instrument binnacle is accurately depicted, including speedometers and tachometers that display according to the functions of the car the player is driving.Amazing, how have game manufacturers not been able to recreate this since NFS first appeared?I lost my copy of this game and am now trying to find it, since all my other games don't have the accurate dash display.I miss this game...The driving dynamics and physics of this game are still one of the best, rating close to, if not equal to the Gran Turismo series. While the graphics may be crude (I haven't played this game in about ten years, but can only imagine what they would look like now), the gameplay is excellent.Too bad there aren't more cars (I can only recall about 5 or 6) and there is only one European car (Porsche 911).I wish someone would recreate the element of a realistic dashboard in games now.I can't think of any, can anyone else?Hopefully Gran Turismo 4 will have this element. This game is still one of my favorites, due to this feature.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
The classic Need For Speed title. It did for racing games what Mortal Kombat did for fighting games - introduced a new level of quality and realism. Great graphics, gameplay and music. You can get the PC version or play the PSX one with an emulator if you don't have a PSX/PS2.

4-0 out of 5 stars off to a good start
Okay, so we can all agree that all the newer "Need for Speed" games are better, but this game was the first to come out.If you keep that in mind, it's not half bad. It's sort of a...classic.The beginningmovie really cool, the cars handle realisticly, the crashes are incredible, and the courses are pretty fun.If I wanted something to complain about,it *might* be the graphics, which are kinda "fuzzy" and it doestake a long time to load. Two player mode is righteous (I can't believe Ijust said that...) and there are some pretty neat codes available for thisgame, too.

Basically, I would highly recommend this game as long asgraphics aren't the most important thing to you and you don't mind a reallycool classic (like..Duck Hunt...or Donkey Kong.) :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Freakazoids Racing With No Control At All
Micro Maniacs Racing was the first game I got for my PS1 about 3 years ago. I decided to try Time Trial first because I was sure I would absolutely reek at the game. The game's controls are frustrating at first, but you grow to like them. First timers might think this game is stupid because of the controls and how much they stink. I know this because my friends all said that. After you get the controls down, you realize this is a great game. It is kinda hard to win the Championship or whatever the heck it's called, but racing against 4 of your friends in the Time Trial mode is fun. My favorite character is Beatbox, because he's a beatbox. I like beatboxes. I was surprised to see that Mesme, the little alien was a girl, because she sorta looks like a boy. When you set the game to Maniac level, geez those guys go fast. But, why the heck can you not take shortcuts without you getting blobitized(whatever that means) and having to start somewhere else again. Sharp turns are hard to do especially when you're trying to go really fast. This game is hard and not for little kids because of the hard controls, but overall I like it. The graphics look just fine on a Playstation 1 standard and the sound and music are pretty good. It's one of the games I like to play without the radio blocking out the sound. The attacks are hilarious and aren't too hard to do. It doesn't have very bad controls when it comes to attacking, but moving your little maniac can be very frustrating. So, I'd recommend this game to anyone who doesn't care about bad controls.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's the remix edition, for the cars in the kitchen.
We all are probably familar to micro machines. You drive a car thru places like kitchens and bathrooms.Well Micro Maniacs is for walking.Don't think it's boring. You get these cool special attacks you can use.You pick power ups on the ground and collect them. You can train your player in 1 player mode too.Who thought a racing game could be like an RPG.You could turn Twisters Yo-Yo into the chainsaw yo-yo(My cuz hates for using this). The graphics are beautiful. You could use the background for advantage. The music is very good. This one level sounds like Butterfly from DDR.Go buy it it's only 10 dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
This is an awesome game. You can choose from a variety of little freaks with powers ranging from sending little ghosts which reverse a racers controls to fireball farts wwhich evaporate a racer. This adds an element of excitement to the game but the best thing is the course. You have to hop over knives, ride bees over a garden, run through croquet hoops and even run over a man having a bypass operation. The graphics are fabulous and it offers up to 8 player play. The only problem is the controls are a bit slippery and your characters slide around a bit. But all in all it is a fabulous game! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Someone was drunk while designing this one....
As Need For Speed games go, I must say....this is the poorest installment.
I'm a racing game fanatic, and have always been a fan of the Need For Speed series, but this one is mightily flawed.
The graphics are average at best, but the videos and information on each of the cars was superb. The graphics and frame rate take a major hit when you go really fast, and actually, the cars at times don't even feel like they're on the ground when driving.
The cars control just okay....but on the more difficult tracks, it is really hard to keep up with the leaders of the pack because it isn't really that easy to take hard turns and hairpins all perfectly like the computer always does.
Being able to drive a Ford GT90 and my dream car, the Jaguar XJ220, is what made me buy this game, but then being able to use them in the game made me really wonder if they should even be dream cars.
Look to Gran Turismo 2 if you want a better selection of excotic cars that are actually controllable.
The sounds of the game are just so-so....all the cars seemingly sound alike when accelerating....and you'll get used to the grating metal sound of nailing walls at high speeds....
The best aspect of this game is the music, quite possibly the best of the NFS series, but when you buy a racing game for the music....that's pretty pathetic.

If you're a fan of the NFS series and HAVE to have every NFS out there, sure, pick this one up for a very cheap price. It's not worth more than 4 or 5 bucks nowadays, so don't pay any more than that.

Die-hard racing fans? Look elsewhere.

Overall, 5 out of 10.

4-0 out of 5 stars one of the best PS1 games
the graphics used to look great but now I've played PS2 and I think they look kind of bad but this is one of the best playstation games out there use the code to get the ford indigo its the best car

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best games
This is a really awesome game...just buy it and see!

1-0 out of 5 stars A lousy game
I got the PC version of this game and its A far cry from the others in the NFS series. The graphics are horrid, the cars are weird not more normal cars like the ferraris or jaguars in the other need for speeds. The cars are hard to control, its way to easy to spin out and crash. The menu controls are hard to use to, for instance most of the options dont have A pull-down menu you have to cycle through all the options. If you want great racing get Need for Speed 3, High Stakes, or Porsche Unleashed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great live videos and courses.Problems with analog control
If you like the exotic cars this game may be for you.Opportunites to drive a McLaren, GT90, F50, and Jaguar are exciting. The videos and information on the cars themselves is great as well.Much better than thenewer High Stakes version. The game did not operate properly in the twoplayer mode when either controller was set to work in the analog mode.Thesteering wheel controllers may alleviate that problem, but I do not haveone. At this price, it is one of the better racing games out there.Ihave enjoyed it more than the others. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Controller Ever Made!!!!
I think my Review title sums it up perfectly. In my mind the Playstation Contoller is the all-time best controller ever.

But not only that there made by an excellent company (Sony) there the most durable i believe, and i've abused mine over the years enough, i was shocked it didn't break, even one that i had the Analog stick broke off, AND IT STILL WORKED!!!!

Not too mention you get a pretty descent sized cord, all the buttons mesh, those don't short out either (unless liquid is spilled on it), the dual shock motor lasts a long time as well.

So weither it be Red, Emerald Green, Ice Blue, or Standard Grey, the official Sony Controller is the best on the market. And as you no doubt guessed the PSOne brand Dual Shock is exactly the same as the older PSX controllers, only it says PSOne, and there all intercompatable. I picked Red cause it's my favorite color :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great controller, nice color
The PS1 controller by sony, in my opinion, is the best quality compared to other brands. The only thing I don't like is the L1 L2 R1 R2 buttons, it is confusing and difficult for me to quickly press one or the other during gameplay. Otherwise this controller is great.
Pros:
1) Small, lightweight, portable
2) Good quality
Cons:
1) L1 L2 R1 R2 buttons are confusing
2) Joysticks (in my opinion) are too close together
3) Start and Select buttons are too little

4-0 out of 5 stars The Controller that plays for its self
The red stimulates the mind to keep playing you just want to keep having fun with it.It also looks excellent with the playstion i find it a wonderful choice of a controller this is the right buy to get ... Read more

Army Men is a great game.I don't know how people hate it.The hardest mission for my friend Matt and me was the one where you have to save green men from a prision. My favorite mission is G-Day. It is like D-Day.Tanks for nothing is hard but I figured out the secret.I beat it!Listen to this review. BUY THE GAME!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shane's review for Army Men World War
This game was pretty fun until you get to level 3, then it is almost inpossible to get past the bridge while a chopper is shooting at you, not to mention about 10 tan troops. The only way I beat the level was with gameshark, but if your going to get a Army Men game...get Army Men Land*Sea*Air or Army Men Sarge's Heroes 1 or 2. Once I got done with level 3 (with a lot of help from gameshark) I took out the gameshark and couldn't even move on the next level without getting shot or wounded. It is also fantasy for you of those who like real war games, it takes nine shots to die! I didn't like this part of the game either, you don't even get a platoon to go through the levels, I mean on Ghost Recon, you get to have a platoon of 6 soldiers. You would probably be better of to play with your little brothers toy soldiers it would probably be funner. I wouldn't recommened you get this game (Save your dough), I would for surely recommened Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Island Thunder. The graphics were pretty bad too, the green soldiers looked like brown soldiers, the forest or the background looked like a water colored painted picture. Save your money get one of Tom Clancy's games or another Army Men game

5-0 out of 5 stars actually a great game
this game is like Medal of honor with a twist it is challenging but very fun probably the best of the army men series

5-0 out of 5 stars Never seen anything like it!
Ok, Im not Mary Ray, Im her son, But anyway... WHAT IS THIS GAME, IS IT A LEGEND?! I have never, in my entire life, seen a cooler army game. I am in love with this game. Ah, we first met when I went to rent Tony Hawk 3. They didnt have it and I noticed all these army games and asked my dad if we could rent this one because World War would attract attention ya know, and he said yes. As soon as I started it I couldnt believe my eyes! Its so cool! Sure level 4 is a little hassel but you get through it. And as far as what most of the other reviewers say about the graphics, my response is: Dark? Hah, my [rear]! Overall its a great game and I highly recomend you to get it... unless your one of those other bozoes who think its [junk].

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game
Army men world war is definetly a good game the only reason other people do not like it is because they cant get to any of the good levels ..., some of the levels are very hard like the last level is impossible, but its a game that is very fun. the graphics are not bad at all but if ur use to Plastation2 graphiscs u wont like them. it is exciting and a challenge if u do not have all levels code but i definetly recomend this game to everyone that likes WII games. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the (much) better Motocross/Supercross games
I rented several of the popular motocross/supercross games to get a feel for each before I purchased. As far as I am concerned, this game still beats some of the newer games in graphics and bike physics (like Ricky Carmichael's, which I was disappointed in). In my opinion, EA Sports games seem to be better overall than those games by other video game developers (like 989 and Acclaim).

My four-year-old son can play this game, fairly well on beginner, and actually not come in last place (which keeps it exciting for him). But in the same manner, I have some excellent competition for me when it's set to pro (I don't give up easily, but the computer is pretty fair considering).

Overall, I was very pleased and satisfied with the game's performance. The reduced price also helped a lot with the decision to buy this versus a newer and more expensive game.

This game is horrible. Every thing about it is horrible. Please don't even think about buying this stupid game. The grapics, sound, gameplay is wack and is to jerky. If u want a good wcw game wait until they have one. If not get wcw mayhem. Its the best wcw out there. Try other wrestling games like wwf no mercy, wrestlemania 2000, ecw or the best wrestling right now is wwe here comes the pain.

4-0 out of 5 stars WCW Hardcore Fun!
Graphics: It's okay for PS but it could have been way better. Kind of blocky and the faces look like robots.

Sound: Great commentary, yet boring. The themes are simple and boring also.

Gameplay: 2 words: E.Z.

Frusteration: Barely any frusteration once you figure out the controls.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's fun, for a while.
Face it, wrestling games are really fun. This one is not the greatest, but it is alot of fun to bash your opponent with all manner of hardware lying about!I personally got this one just to play as either one of the Outsiders {Hall and Nash}.The quality of the wrestlers appearance is decent but certainly pales to the now reigning Xbox and PS2.Game play is routine and quick to learn.Like I said, it is fun but grows boring quickly.

2-0 out of 5 stars ...and I thought The Grinch was a bad game!
I am a huge WCW fan and I am angry and sad because it doesn't come on any more. I love WCW Mayhem by Electronic Arts, and that was their first wrestling game, and this is their second , but it is something that you dig out of a litter box. I don't like this game because there are only about four weapons laying around and when you use a weapon about three times it turns into dust and that makes it impossible to win a first blood match (they're nearly impossible to win with weapons anyways). Also, the backstage areas that you have to wrestle in are smaller than the wrestling ring itself. There are only about two moves that you can do besides punching and kicking and you have to win a match, which is almost impossible, to unlock a new move. It is also very confusing to even start a match on this game. The graphics would look better if you cracked the television screen with a hammer. WCW Nitro is better than this game. Any wrestling game, even on Atari, if they have a wrestling game for it, is better than WCW Backstage Assault. The only thing this game is good for is to keep a fire burning for a couple of extra minutes. ... Read more
