Amazon.com Review As Gordon, you'll battle a variety of hostile alien creatures and some not-so-friendly government soldiers while you attempt to escape from theunderground--and heavily ravaged--testing facility. Featuring both an engaging, atmospheric single-player experience and frenetic multiplayer action(supporting both local network and Internet play), Half-Life is currently one ofthe best games of it type. What makes Half-Life special is its combination of crisp 3-D graphics (supporting many 3-D hardware accelerators), creepy ambient sound effects, andnail-biting action, which creates an immersive, movie-like experience. In momentsreminiscent of the movie Aliens, creatures leap from behind desks, drop down out of air vents, and pounce from dark corners--nowhere is safe, andyou'll often feel overwhelmed and outgunned. Speaking of weapons,Half-Life features an imaginative offensive and defensive arsenal, from a simple crowbar to the explosive heat-seeking rocket launcher andcrafty crossbow. If you're looking for an action-packed, story-oriented gamethat continues to impress after many hours, check out Sierra's Half-Life. --Doug Radcliffe Reviews (75)

Amazon.com Review The new edition boasts new 3-D graphics, supporting both 3Dfx and Rendition hardware, and provides a slightly updated look without compromising the classic's proven, action-packed gameplay. Even though MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition's improved 3-D visuals and sound effects don't stack up favorably against modern games, if you never experienced MechWarrior 2, here's your chance to relive one of the most complete action titles ever conceived. The player assumes command of gigantic, lumbering BattleMechs and, in many missions, oversees a squad of friendly team members controlling their own huge metallic juggernauts. Before each mission (MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition includes over 30 missions), players select from 15 different BattleMechs, varying in size, speed, and durability, and customize them with over 20 different weapons, such as missiles, lasers, and equipment like coolant devices and jump jets. MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition's diverse mission objectives, instant action missions, customizable BattleMechs, and NetMech multiplayer capability provide a nearly infinite amount of replaying. --Doug Radcliffe Reviews (5)
The 3D graphics are spartan for today's standards, but if you want to see the first generation of Mech combat, grab this one.
I have never seen so many mechs in one game of all the mech games I have played this is the only one with a large ammount of mechs includeing the common mechs now Timber Wolf, Dire Wolf, Atlas, and my personal favorite mech the Elemental not a mech but a body armor hehe 1 star of those vs a Dire Wolf is a great fight :) The Single Player missions are pretty good they take a while to beat as you are a Mercenary you can higher lance mates and you have contracts for decideing where you fight. The ability to choose where you fight is very nice considering some of the battles are right out of battletech history :) so you can play out history instead of just reading it. The online gameplay is good they have improved alot over mechwarrior2's online gameplay which had the DFA bug and several other small bugs to my knowledge there is not as many bugs in this game. Another thing that is very nice is that they upgraded the graphics in this version and the 3dfx version. The previous version did not have that good of graphics. Good things: Lots of Mechs Bad Things:

1.It has patheticly bad graphics.
Firstly, if you don't have every expansion, then Sony will attempt to get you to buy that expansion with a pop up window. Never mind that you are already paying them to play their game. Friend of mine got all but the latest expansion and got harassed immediately the day he signed up. Current expansion (Omens of War) doesn't come out until July. They started harassing us 2 or 3 weeks ago about it. This will continue on a daily basis and there is no way to play the game without dealing with it. You can't ignore it or escape out of it. There is no way to turn the solicitation off. Not Sonys policy. Glad my playstation doesn't do the same thing. Secondly, bugs can take weeks or never to be fixed. Sony has been prioritizing releasing expansions and making changes to the game instead of fixing the bugs that have been present for some time. For example, boats were a long standing problem (years) that never worked properly. With Gates of Discord what do they add? MORE BOATS. Yup, these didn't work either. Go fig. Customer service. Well if your having issues in game, it will take anywhere from hours to weeks to get assistance. The only way to do this is to stay logged into the game until you get a response (and hopefully you will be looking at your screen at that time). If you log out, your request will be deleted. They tend to have many loopholes as far as player assistance is concerned. Like not having 'exact' verbage for example. Also, if you need outside technical help, the employees working for Sony will either tell you to petition in game (see the beginning of this paragraph for how effective that is) or tell you to check the online help file. Now if all those problems don't detour you, here are the benefits. Other people I have met online can be a joy to work with. EQ is a game designed for grouping and it is strongly encouraged. Many zones to explore with various mobs to fight. Quests are fun for items or faction (exp is always negliable). There is tradeskilling, which can be tiresome but also a good way to bring in income. It is a hack and slash game though. Don't you think otherwise. Thats the only way to get any exp to lvl. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Players are able to choose from seven player specialties, including reconnaissance, sniper, demolitions, and heavy weapons. Each soldier has unique skills and weaponry, but is able to use any found weapons, even if it falls outside their specialization. Every weapon has been modeled after digital images of real guns with sounds that are based on the recordings of actual weapons. The game also features a complex ballistics system that takes into account material density, hardness, wall thickness, bullet caliber, player movement-based accuracy, and ricochets. Reviews (26)

The two strongest features of Dark Reign are it'sunit-control interface and artificial intelligence, which have only beenrivalled by one other game - Age of Empires 2. On Easy level, the enemywill send squadrons of diverse units against your base. For instance, theAI might send tanks and ground troops, only to have them vaporised by yourturrets. It might then send air units against your base, which has noanti-air guns. The unit-control is even better than Dark Reign 2. You cancommand your units to scout the entire map (and unlike Dark Reign 2 theyreally WILL explore the entire map). You can even send them on harrassmentmissions, which I've found very useful in slowing down enemy AIproduction. The weakest feature of Dark Reign is it's storyline. Insteadof actually being a member of the warring armies, you're actually anobserver replaying historical battles. The only real excitement is at theend, when you utilise units and buildings from both sides to defeat bothopposing armies. The final mission is definitely NOT for thefainthearted. It's unfortunate that Dark Reign didn't get the kudos itdeserved. It's graphics may not have been of the same standard as TotalAnnihilation, but it's intense gameplay easily surpassed that of it'srival. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review After choosing from one of several authentic Star Trek races, players are free to test their battle skills in a single scenario or proceed through an entire campaign. The missions play out like Star Trek episodes, so you'll contact new alien races, investigate anomalies, and fend off enemies attempting to infiltrate your slice of the star map. There are many ships to choose from (or earn in the campaigns) with a multitude of weapons systems and special abilities, so you'll never run out of new tactics to try. Combat takes place in real time on a 2-D map, but all the ships, starbases, and other objects on the map are rendered in 3-D. The graphics--especially the special effects--are spectacular, as are the sound effects. The latest patch for the game cuts shield strengths in half, making battles much more intense, but even without the fixes Starfleet Command stands as one of the best Star Trek games ever produced. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Reviews (36)
Though the graphics are fantastic and real to life, don't get too obsessed in any one mission, or game play, as some unfixed bug in the program will undoubtedly crash and/or lock up your system. I have downloaded the update patch available from the online SFC2 site, but the program lock-up remains. That in my opinion is the major pitfall of playing this game at all...the game has potential, but I wouldn't recommend it until the bugs are fixed. After all, what fun is a game if you have to reboot your system just about the time things start to get interesting?

Amazon.com Review We thought we were in for a treat when the good-looking strategic map loaded up,but we were mistaken. The interface is convoluted and the manual does anincredibly poor job of describing its operation (in fact, several features arenot discussed at all). We figured things out after a few hours of trial anderror, but by that time we also had discovered that the game was repetitive anddull. The combat routines are laughable. The designers gave us all sorts of neatformations to line our troops up in, presumably to give us a tactical edge incombat, but every fight immediately degenerates into a circle-shaped generalbrawl. The only thing worse than the graphics and sound effects during the fightsequences was the fact we had to sit through them for interminable amounts oftime, always knowing who the winner would be before the conflict even began.Braveheart obviously was a great idea that was kicked out of developmentand onto store shelves before it was ready for prime time. --T. ByrlBaker Pros: Reviews (9)
Ultimately, it introduces a somewhat complex style of playing that still differs from modern video games, whether they're historical, fantastic, or modern, and surpasses regular modes of playing, whether it's RPG, turn-based strategy, or wartime combat. It requires you to use your brain, which is what I have always liked about it, and if you don't watch out and go about every little thing carefully, your entire system and game plan could fall. Perhaps this is why most reviewers haven't liked it, because they were looking for something a bit more simple, like Age of Empires, that just requires you to manage everything with a few mouse clicks. Braveheart isn't all that appealing, I'm sure, to those who can't multitask well. There are a few other notable features that make the game more enjoyable: the scenery, for instance. It's apparent that the programmers, in their day, made it an effort to capture the Scottish scenery and architecture (like that of London, if you ever get that far). Personally, I don't care whether I'm playing William Wallace or not, but if you want to slip into the role-play side of it, then you can go ahead. But if you work with the less popular characters of Leslie and Argyle, you can train them to be stronger and more levelheaded. Everything is balanced in a very admirable system of economical decision, whether it be financial, military, or geographical. All in all, this game is a splitter, you either love it or hate it. Being a fan of games that are more usually the underdog in the review world and sales market, this could may be a review of biased opinion. In a last breath, its advantages outweigh the disadvantages. At least give it a try. The prices I'm seeing are unbelievably cheap from when I first bought it.

Amazon.com Review In Armored Fist 3, players command M1A2 Abrams tanks across four campaigns that encompass more than 50 missions of tank combat. A well-designed interface simplifies the often-complex game situations; still, prepare to memorize many keyboard functions, including ones for launching smoke grenades, calling air support, and operating the GPS. Once players complete the single-player game, Novalogic's online service, Novaworld, offers multiplayer competition (up to 32 players) that allows players to use microphones so they can transmit voice commands to their teammates. Also, a full-featured mission editor lets them create custom battles and share them with fellow Armored Fist 3 players. Perhaps the biggest gripe with Armored Fist 3 is Novalogic's Voxel Space 32 engine, which eschews the use of the latest 3-D accelerators. Though the software engine supports a dazzling 16 million colors, you'll need at least the minimum requirements just to play at an enjoyable speed, and a much more powerful machine to enjoy Armored Fist 3 at the highest graphical detail. --Doug Radcliffe Features Reviews (10)

Well, you would think that the company that owns the game would know the content of the game, but they evidently don't.If you are a novice gamer, please do not buy this book as a guide to the world of EQ.The maps are grossly incorrect in respect to locations of landmarks, camps, town, druid rings, you name it.The zone levels listed are most incorrect and the "dangers within" background stories are erroneous. Ever since Sony shoved Verant Interactive out of the picture, there has a been a succession of poorly executed attempts to milk the EQ cash cow. This atlas is one of the worst. Please don't make the mistake I made when I preordered this terrible boot and waste of money.

Firstly, my comp specs: Atlon 1.2Ghz I run the game in 1024 x 728 resolution with all settings set to maximum and it runs smoothly and looks great. It only 'jerked' slightly when I was downloading a 250 mb file at the same time as playing! The gameplay itself is fantastic. You can fly planes, drive jeeps, tanks even have access to battleships. At first these are hard to master but once you've practiced, and plenty of it, you should quickly become a force to reckoned with. Most missions are objectively based so you will have to carry these out if you want to continue.Generally you and the enemy have a pool of lives each, which are depleted as you and your team mates get killed. You have to carry out the objectives prior to all your teams lives being used. The missions are historically based and quite accurate from what I hear too.The Road to Rome expansion pack adds to the longevity of the game offering addtional maps and missions and what also adds is the fact that you can play as either the Allies or Axis. Where this game comes into its' own is in multiplayer mode over the internet. It is fair to say you do really need a hefty connection to get the best form this as there is so much going on.Theres nothing better than sitting in an anti aircraft placement shooting at fellow interneters in their planes as they fly overhead. You can also climb into a vehicle with one of your friends so that one drives and you've got an intelligent mate doing the shooting. On line you could just play it and play it and play it.Couple this with the desert combat mod, which gives you access to jets and helicopters and puts you in the gulf war it really is just superb. So thats it really, a thoroughly enjoyable game, well executed in my opinion, and just great fun.Buy it and enjoy it! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Reviews (119)
This expansion comes packed with new monsters and a whole new map to explore. Most of the new map is just housing plains, but that's fine, because there are some interesting monsters. It also contains the map Ilshenar which was recently only available on the Third Dawn expansion. If you havn't joined UO yet and you plan to don't buy this now, but wait for the 7th Anniversary to be released this year (2004). It will contain all of the expansions and some rare items, and a full Ultima game included. More bang for the buck. The most important aspect of any game is the gameplay. In UO, it's flawless. It's not like Everquest where you just fight to gain level. On UO, you fight to live and thrive in the beautiful world or Britannia. Another great thing about UO is that gaining level is more flexible and realistic. You don't just gain HP, you gain other skills and attributes as well. The currency system is easy to grasp onto. Countless skills to learn and master, and countless gameplay hours. This is the best MMORPG ever. Probably the best video game ever as well.
Many people are dissatisfied with the OSI shards. They talk of how frustrating the countless bugs are. However, I think they were simply too quick to judge. At first, there *were* tons of bugs, but now, months after the release, there are hardly any. As for lack of space for housing, it is simply a testament to how popular the game is. If you're patient, there is always room for one more house. If playing on OSI shards is what turns you off of the game...there are always *other* possibilities. Look closely, they're there. UO is an amazing experience, and one I wont forget. It has something that many other games dont, and that is what sets it apart.
Well, UO is the quintessential case of the danger of judging a book by its cover.Notwithstanding its graphical limitations, UO is quite simply the deepest, most complex, immersive, varied and thoroughly addictive experience that the MMORPG genre has to offer.Unlike many games where you have 6-8 character classes to choose from, perhaps a few more if you are lucky, in UO you have no classes per se, only skills that can be used to develop into professions based on skill levels ... and the list of possible professions you can end up with is long -- 25 plus, including not just the typical warrior and mage professions but a number of interesting ones like merchant, miner, blacksmith, tailor and the like.Your character advances not so much by experience points but by enhancing skills through using them over the course of time. There are so many to choose from, the possibilities for customising your game experience are nearly limitless. The game is thoroughly engaging, the goals are challenging, advancement is steady but challenging as well and rather time consuming, but the results are very, very satisfying. The world is very social, the players like to communicate with each other, and it is a huge world environment as well. The game world is divided into facets, with the largest environment being divided between the Felucca facet and the Trammel facet, the difference being principally that the former, known as "Fel", allows for player killing, while the latter allows this only under limited circumstances. The learning curve is steep for UO, but that is part of the fun.The message boards and guides at stratics.com are very helpful in learning the game, and there are numerous approved add-on programs that help make the game experience flow more smoothly. But in the end it is the clever design, the outstanding variety, the combination of challenge and satisfaction that make UO almost unique among MMORPGs, and clearly head and shoulders above others in terms of gameplay and player satisfaction.
I made it to day 5.This game is boring. The trades system is a joke, seeing as how the apparent goal of UO, to most of its gamers, is to make money.Well the truth is only one or two trades really make you any money in this game.PvP combat is restricted to specific areas.I'm sorry, but PvP is a fact of life with online RPG's.Player killers were always all the more incentive to be careful outside city limits, and to hone your combat skills. There is very little to even do in the game. All I ever see is players huddling around the bank, trading items and selling their properties. Maybe I just don't understand this style of game, but this was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent, and I only spent 10 dollars on it.Really, I want my 10 dollars back. ... Read more
