4-0 out of 5 stars Top Tier budget, graphics, voice talent, low tier design!
It's funny that I have so much admiration for a product and company that has so little admiration for me...Hmm..deep statement. But anyways, I've been reading the reviews and I can tell that most of the people who have reviewed this game are obvious Warcraft fanboys.Meaning they won't even bother to give this game a critical review. So I decided to type up my own review on Lords of Everquest. As my title suggest there are a lot of things that are quite spectacular about this game.It is certainly worth more than 1 or 2 stars.I'll start with pros (good news) amd finish with the cons(bad news).

The pros are that this game has great graphics. The units are more true to size ratio to buildings and the graphics have a more photorealistic look as opposed to the big, blocky coloring book graphics of Warcraft 3.Also this game has a true population limit of like 45 units. This is a true 45 meaning you can actually build 45 units. In Warcraft 3 there is a point total of 75 and some units cost more than 1 point. In fact some units in WC3 cost like 8 points. So even though you have a population limit of 75, that population could be comprised of like 7 dragons and a few grunts. In LOE you will have room for 45 no matter how big the creature you build is.Also LOE at times pays some real nice attention to real world physics. For instance when units cross shallow water they move slower, which is how it should be but in WC3 they still move the same speed.LOE has a good deal of upgrades, some of them I found quite cool. And like all good RTS games there is that one army this is obviously head and shoulders above all the rest.In LOE, the Elddar Alliance is the Protoss of the game.Every game should have an unbalanced superpowerful army if for nothing else than to give the players something to log onto message forums and bitch about.Mounted units can be thrown from their mounts and then say funny phrases when they now have to walk around.Speaking of phrases this leads to the biggest bonus feature of LOE.The voice talent.LOE has assembled the best voice talent probably in the history of voice acting in one game. Some of the legends in anime have lent their voices to this game like Wendee Lee from Cowboy Beebop, Kevin Conroy from Justice League, and even the guy that plays Bato from the Ghost in the Shell anime. They have lots of other B+ voice talent too like Fairuza Balk, Cree Summer, and Claudia Black. It's really just cool to hear all these celebrities in a video game, which is kind of an indicator of the budget this game had.Which in turn makes you kinda wonder how they went so wrong in the gameplay development.

This leads me to the cons of this game.First off this game has tons of bugs. For instance, if you send flying units off across the map, they don't fly over cliffs or bodies of water but rather they will fly around cliffs and travel across shallow bodies of water like the ground units do.Also the A.I. is pretty bad.Unit's don't always attack when you tell them too and for units that are so undisciplined their should be a button that allows you to give them an "attitude" similar to the ones in the Warlord Battlecry game.So like you could tell your units to have a defensive attitude so even when you move them around they won't go running after anything they see but in this game they do and this can be frustrating. Also the range on some of the archers like the Wood Elf archers is a joke. These guys have a maximum range of like 15 feet it seems. There is almost little benefit to having range units beside the fact that they can seem to just barely shoot over the shoulder of the fighters. They have also copied Warcraft in having their units say some funny things if you click on them over and over again. The campaign battles can be deceiving about this game.In the campaign the battle are all just a small warband run through a series of winding, twisting forest.Good RTS games have large battles on open frontiers with a few, scaled down "seek and destory" quests thrown in the side. But if you can manage to play the game single player you will be able to play some of those wide open, large battles. That's another bad thing, the single player skirmish option is broke. You can get around this by hosting a lan game and selecting a computer opponent. But this shouldn't have to be done. Also there is a severe lack of nice scenery for the battles. Most of the fighting takes place on wide open, barren wastelands, with no eye candy like temples, shrines, castles and bridges.Just a few gnoll campsites here and there. Also this game suffers from the same defensive shortcomings as WC3.No walls. Not that I'm in love with walls, it's just that in some cases a large band of enemies can just charge right around your turrets and weave their way through your buildings and start slaying your workers.Walls could prevent this.Casual RTS players don't see this but the pros take note of this.

All in all this game is okay. You can tell that by the way they got some things spot on and some things terrible that this game must have been rushed. It certainly wasn't because of budget. But there is still not excuse for this. The players, namely myself, gave those guys tons of advice and they did not seem to take it.In all I'd say this game falls just a notch behind Warcraft 3, but it's certainly worth more than 2 stars if you can find a crafty way to get single player and multi player lan games going. On its own it's worth about 3 stars. If you thrown in the great voice talent, then its' worth 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really sucks
this game is boring crappy and not worth my time or anyone elses the multiplayer and the campain sucks and there is no skrimish the battles are confusing and there are no builders in the army. to make things worse there is only one resorce and the game iself emits an aura of boredom.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This
This is without a doubt the worest attempt at stategy and RPG.The box of this game depicts massive armies slugging it out.I don't know how this is possible when you can only create a maximum of 28 units in this game..Thats pretty sad when compared to todays standards. The AI is also nonexistant.I had only purchased this game because it was an Everquest product and I know that they are popular. This is definately a game to be left on the shelf of the store and regarded as nonsense. The makers of EverQuest should stick to RPG and not try to make a niche for themselves in strategy.

5-0 out of 5 stars very fun
it is a great strategy game and is addicting i play a ton.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy Warcraft 3 instead folks
Lords of Everquest is obviously an attempt for Sony to get revenge on Blizzard since Blizzard is taking their Warcraft world into the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Genre(a genre that Everquest put on the map). Only problem is...Blizzard knows how to translate Warcraft(Real Time Strategy Game)into an MMORPG...unlike Sony who obviously does NOT know how to translate Everquest into an RTS game.

I laughed at my friend when he showed me he bought this game for his PC. He was like "Shut up, how was I supposed to know this game was garbage!!" LOL! Funny stuff.

I suggest you only buy this game if you can get it for under 20 dollars otherwise invest your money into WarCraft. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No luck is bad luck
I had no luck getting Fighter Ace 3.5 to work on my PCs. I installed it on Windows 2000 and XP. When I try to fly, the plane stays in a left turn. You have to keep correcting the plane by countering with right turns. I contacted the support group and tried every fix they suggested. However, the problem has not been resolved. I would strongly suggest another game choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Server Stability was fixed as promised.
I just read some of the reviews. I dont know how these guys arrived at a customer service being poor aspect. All you have to do is ask anyone in the game. They have help rooms open 24/7. The community dives in to help anyone having trouble anytime I've been in an arena.

I do notice often some people have no patience with new things and blame others for the fact. Your not going to buy this game and be the best overnight. Doesnt happen in any game with actual depth. There are so many planes with definitive characteristics to master it can be overwhelming. Recognizing a bogie aircraft and combat manuevers take alot of practice as well as gunnery. Ballistics are modeled realistically as possible in weapon rate of fire, mass, muzzle velocity and trajectory. I wouldn't recommend trying to dogfight an interceptor with a torpedoe bomber unless you've been playing awhile. =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Some myths to be disparaged
Fighter Ace has not been a Microsoft product for some time now.
They went solo on their own with the staff who designed the game.

AH guys say FA pilots are biased?
Better look in the mirror, and it isnt just a kids game.
Many are from the older family crowd and very enthusiastic about the history and modeling of the aircraft in every possible detail.

It takes some practice to be good in the game.
I have flown every flight sim I could get my hands on and FA presented me with the best immersion and feel of them all.
(CFS 1-3, IL2, AcesHigh, WarBirds, X-Plane, Crimson Skies)

Its not about fighting premapped drones.
Its not about fighting hacked opponents.
It's facing real people in a sportsmans atmosphere.

For the price nobody can beat VR-1 & Jaleco for the package they have assembled hands down. CFS 3 Was pretty but still as flat a flight model as CFS2. And for the price of CFS I think MS bombed.
They should have stuck by the FA Platform its developers are among the very best in programming and as people.

Sincerely,
Chris Moor
Flight Sim Enthusiast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most advanced MMOGout there
Here is a game that offers a little bit for everyone:

It has Territorial Combat rooms, where the player can pick one of 5 countries to fight for. With others (averaging 250 pilots on any given evening), you can choose to bomb, drop troops, provide fighter cover, or hit tanks.

On the other side, there are simple dogfigting arenas, where you can fly as a team or even in a Free for All arena. The physics are relaxed a bit(unlimited fuel and ammo, no black or redouts) for easy enjoyable gameplay.

On the highest side, the people out for full realism can enjoy all the physics thrown right at them, and fight other planes without seeing their tags first.

This game truly is the cutting edge of MMOG flight sims.Sure, you can go play Battlefield1942 over at laggy gamespy with 32 or less players, but if you want to FLY there, its just silly.Combat Flight Sim and IL2 both are good games, but do not hold a candle to the online immersion of FA3.5.

The community is tight knit, as others have said.Unlike virtually any other game, troublemakers are quickly run off by the everpresent sysops, who really do a great job of keeping gameplay enoyable for all.Lets face it, anyone with any experience in online gaming has faced the "jerk", who is only there to cause trouble and disrupt a good time. FA polices itself well. The few bad ratings this game has got in customer service are from those people, angry I am sure, that for once they were not allowed to disrupt things.

The developers actively fly and converse with players in the newsgroups, something rarely seen in a videogame. The sysops run events week long. From Pin Point Parachuting, Canyon Races, Kings of The Sky (KOTS) Squad Matches, to full blown historical recreations with 1000's of pilots participating, the events are a blast.

Your fellow pilots will quickly become your friends and confidants. After a while, you will want to join a squadron so you can work even better as a team to bring your country to victory in Terrritorial Combat, or hold the KOTS room as champion of up to 5 equal squad matches.

This game truly has it all and I know any online gamer would have a blast in it, given the chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Show me this many people having this much fun ANYWHERE!
Found FA 4 years ago and haven't found a game this fun since!I have tried WB, AH, WW2OL and others and NONE match the knuckle clenching, heart pounding, adrenaline rush F U N!

Now, yes this game is played on the internet... so internet performance can cause issues. But ANY online game is subject to this and NONE pull off as much action and fun per person playing (up to 300+!!!) as Fighter Ace 3.5 can!Problems are identified and remedied as soon as practical and possible!

The community in this game is second to NONE.The developers and sysops are seen in game routinely. They have an active stance in gameplay issues and playability.

There is something for everyone who enjoys flying the virtual skies.3 basic physics levels w/ various settings that reach for pure arcade to very realistic (not that silly stuff that you see in WW2OL and such) flight modeling.

You can fly fighters, bombers, torpedo planes, even cargo planes! There are constantly changing rooms that are updated regularly to keep game play challenging and fun, as well as a few rooms that based on popular room layouts.

So come on in and give it a fly...there are TONS of squadrons looking for new members and TONS of solo flyers looking for a wingman...YOU! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
Mechwarrior 2:Mercenaries is the very first game I've ever played in the series, long before I started reading any of the books. Needless to say I was unfamiliar with the whole plot.
Mw2:Mercs puts you in the cockpit of awesome, powerful, 80-ton humanoid warmachines with enough firepower to level a city.
This is one of the few fps games that kept me glued to the monitor from beginning to end. Well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Mechwarrior Game ever!
Sometimes I feel the urge to play an older game. I don't know, it's just that today some of the titles require such high-end stats and make you wade through more menus that I yearn for the days of old when games were just much more straightforward. In addition there's just not that many single-player games in production these days and I remember a time when it was the single-player mode that a game was rated by, multi-player being more of a novelty.

Mechwarrior II:Mercenaries is a reasonable translation of tabletop BattleTech to computer gaming. I say "reasonable" because there are finer nuances that have been altered to make the computer gaming experience more palatable. More on that in a second, let's give this game it's due. Building on the slightly older Mechwarrior II and expansion pack this game gave you the viewpoint of the Inner Sphere (IS) domains. Coincidentally most BattleTech players I've ever dealt with play IS in one form or another, and so the first Mechwarrior II, while pretty, seemed a little odd. No Mechwarror game since this one has covered the Clan Invasion of 3051 and it's a crying shame, more classic combat scenarios came out of that era than any other, hands down.

You start out as a mercenary commander (your CO blown away in the awesome, totally BattleTech inspired intro). Over the years you acquire better Mechs and weapon systems, salvage partially destroyed equipment (and even more Mechs), and spend your money wisely upgrading. You can also hire up to 2 Lance mates, although as a BattleTech purist I really would have liked to have had 3, a Lance being 4 Mechs in number. You can also hire a single Aerospace fighter or bomber pilot, flying the classic 3025 models (Stukas, Lucifers, Corsairs, and more). As the game progresses your stature and fame in the IS grows, until strange stories come from the Periphery of a marauding army of souped up Mechs destroying all in thier path. In one of the most memorable game sequences I ever played (ever, to this day) you escape with some Periphery pirates (common enemies make strange bedfellows, eh?) and flee in a stolen Pegasus Light Hovercraft to a perfectly taut soundtrack.

The cutscenes were wonderful and the game exudes pure BattleTech. The new Mercenaries captures a lot of the dynamics of running an independent mercenary company in the BT universe but just doesn't take it from this era, which is a shame.

This game, good as it is, still has some flaws. If you flip through your 3025 manuals you'll see most of the Mechs are here, save for a few notable ones like the Rifleman, Warhammer, Phoenix Hawk, and my favorite, the Hatchetman. My understanding is there is an ongoing licensing problem with some of these designs, basically carbon copied from the RoboTech universe. Weapons don't seem to do as much damage, but I understand that's a necessary evil of the design. On a tabletop the average life expectancy of some units isn't even a full minute, and so while you may expect to obliterate that unwary Commando with your AC20 in one shot it's a little dissappointing to see it take up to 3. Your Lance members oftentimes don't know where they're going, although admittedly they can hit thier targets. The vaunted Aerospace Pilot works for only a few missions and then simply ceases to work, simply hovering in place over the battlefield, regardless of how many times you tell him to attack. And I won't lie, there are a number of impossible missions that will have you scouring the web looking for invulnerability cheats, the first and foremost on my mind being the set of missions on the ice freighter.

This game was so good though, the soundtrack was absolutely incredible, the graphics for it's day were great, that I simply cannot give it anything less than 4 1/2 stars. My hat's off to FASA, Activision, and Hanse Davion. Miss ya bud!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than any other game I have
The beginning movie is very interesting for me.This mech pilot and the mech try and get back into the dropship, and they either die, dropship leaves and the mech dies, or that the mech gets on, I am not telling you the way it ends.

Gameplay
When you first begin, choose a name, there, then comes some a letter from the mech who just died.Later on you get information. You board the dropship, go to different planets, see your missions (or choose your contract in mech commander or whatever it is called). There are over 10 missions (forgot to count how many), with 4 arena missions where it is 3 against 1.There are mechs, ranging from 1 ton to 100 tons.Different weapons for usage, limited ammo for most.
Pros of this gameplay is that you get to customize and choose your mechs and teammates and formations and such. There are missions like search and destroy, recon (I never figured out what to do), escort, and defend.

Sound
This is either what I call an advantage or disadvantage. When you aren't battling, you keep hearing the sound of the object rotating which can lead to it being annoying.Battling, hear your mech start up, walk, launch missiles (same noise), and projectiles and jumpjets (projectiles don't have as good of a sound as missiles)

Controls
Aren't that many controls.Jumpjets, arrow keys, full scale attack, attack, etc. They are customizable, and simple to learn.

Mechs
Some mechs are annoying, some are not (can't stick some good weapons on it). What I usually do is take out everything Kodiak (the fastest 100 ton mech in the game) has like weapons, and replace them with Ultra A/C 20 (major damage!).Naga, a mech you can only use in battle mode (1 mission, practice), is equipped with arrow IV missiles (take a long time to reload, don't know if it is worth the time). There are other mechs like Awesome, Urbanmech, jagermech, you get the picture.

Cons:
Sound needs work
The background (wish it keep extending)
If you love this, the aftermath and information (about 3 long paragraphs)
The information when you dock
graphics need a bit work (it is good since it has been out for over 5 for me when I got it)

Pros:
The missions
The mechs
The weapons
The controls

I would recommend this game, and I never did buy this game, it came with my computer I bought 5 years ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool and tons of fun!!!!!
This games just about has all a robot game needs. This game is loads of fun.I never get tired of playing this game.If your looking for an action pack game Mechwarrior 2: Mercenares is that game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Mech game ever!
This is the best of the mechwarrior series. I own them all, so shouldn't I know? You get to choseyour career as a commander for a mercenarie unit, or join someone else's. Then you sign contracts to get your missions.I'd nominate this game for "Best PC Game"...but I can't. ... Read more

This game was loved by every one. Fast shooting game. The graphic was way above perfect back in 1993. A lot of people bought new computer to play the game. Today, doom 3 should have the same impact on the gamers. the game is asking more hardware and will boost the gaming industry standard for sound, graphic and other technology. Amazon.com Review

At first glance Sin looks like weird mix of Quake, Resident Evil, and Half-Life; at second glance, that's still about right. There's nothing terribly original about Sin, and the graphics and character modeling are rather clichéd, even for a 3-D action shooter.

The females, for example, make Lara Croft look like she hasn't yet hit puberty. They're certainly some 13-year-old's grotesquely distorted idea of forbidden female eroticism. This kind of aesthetic pervades the entire game and might give the average player a slight case of the heebie-jeebies.

This aside, there's plenty of shooting, pummeling, and ass kicking for those who want to get down to business--in the style of Quake--and lots of cabinets to open and handles to pull, a la Duke Nukem 3D or Resident Evil. For all its retreading of familiar ground, Sin is, on the whole, reasonably satisfying, and the death match, not too shabby at all.

Escaping from the ordinary isn't the only challenge that Sin faces. The developers seemed to run out of Q&A folks: the multiplayer mode works fine, but there are definite bugs in the single-player version, and the loading time for some of the modules is not quite acceptable.

Bottom line--a good ride for hard-core action shooters, but a pass for gamers possessed of a more discriminating palate. --Tamara Hladik ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Oh gosh, were back to gay stuff.
This game is really annoying and can remind you of not the cool fantasy with adventure, but the little pink fairy magic that you see in the forest. Gosh, why do people like this game so much?

Im not even giving a review, because If you get it, youll cancel the subscription the next month like I did.Look at screenshots and itll tell you.

The pictures lie, its a trick, dont listen to them!If you want adventure like that, youll have to be playing till your an old man.Get Final fantasy XI, or Dark age of camelot or something.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that worth it :<
Yeah, this game is fun.Sure its fun when you start out.You think its a whole new world ahead of you...but its not.I cancelled the subscription to this game after about a month. You can have up to 8 characters, and they can be any class and race you wish. There are ogres, humans, elves, etc. And their classes are things like wizards, warriors, rogues, and that.It will really remind you of mythology because of their spells and stuff.

Its what people always do, they train and gain a few levels and get some cash from their enemy. Then they go buy some new weapons/armour/potions.They train till a certain level so they know they will be good enough to go out far through the everquest world.Sure, they are strong enough but they expected more.Tons of cool abilities and/or spells and items that makes it look cool like you see on trailers. But they dont get it.They train and train and accomplish nothing just like some other people are saying.Thats why I got rid of it.

If you want a good fun, action/adventure online RPG that is way more fun, then I'd suggest // Dark Age of Camelot \\I have that game and it is what I expected. Its what I call *fun* ._.

My friend got this game and he was saying stuff "you gotta get it, its so cool"I was so exited to get EQ trilogy. Finally I saved up enough money to pay for it for a few months.By the way thats a badthing, you have to pay $13 a monthly fee to play. Finally I started to play it and that weeks I played it every day.day 1, awesome.. day 2, awesome.. day 3, awesome, day 4 5 and 6, awesome... day 7, SUCKED!after a few days of playing it, not only it gets old, but you learn your way around the game and figure out that its really dissapointing. The graphics are pretty good.but thats about the only good part.its impossible to gain levels, it takes so long. After 5 days of gameplay, 3 hours each of nothing but fighting, training, fighting, training I was level 4.I didnt take one break, not a lunch break, NOTHING.Thats how hard it is.I didnt die once either. It is hard to find your way around.the 7th day before I got rid of it, it took me an hour to find the magic shop where you buy new spells to use. it is hard to use some spells, like hide.it never works. not many people are friendly.I only joined a group 1 time and that was with a friend my friend who I knew in real life.Even in the daytime, it seems kind of like it is still dark.It just barely lightens up.It is still about the same. You need a torch which doesnt help much.you can turn up your gamma and it will be easy to see but it will be like that the whole time even at night so it takes away the fun.It takes forever to get enough money to buy stuff unless you do a trade skill which is hard.It is nothing like the commercials, they say you go on challenging quests, fight dragons and other monsters, go on an adventure of a lifetime!YOUR KIDDING RIGHT? For crying out loud You have to stay in the same town until you are like level 20 which takes about a year, if youll leave in half a minute some monster will kill you.I can go on and on but I am getting tired.

SO......DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IT IS HORRIBLE!!!!! WAIST OF MONEY!!!!!!!WAIST OF TIME!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont buy it!
I warn you. If you get addicted easily do not buy this game. I played for over a year and I was never happy with the game but I kept playing? Why you ask? well you work so hard to get better, but once you get better you feel like you've accomplished nothing, so you keep working hard to get better but you keep getting no where. This game is terribly addicting, you'll find yourself playing for hours and hours every day. You'll probly get on right when you get off of work and wont get off unless you absolutely have to, its that bad. I've heard of people killing themselves because they somehow lose all their equipment. They even have addiction groups to join (think AA but for EQ) to try and stop playing. How sad is that? I knew this game was consuming my life so I deleted my Characters, my account and I havent ever played since. Save yourself the trouble, enjor your life (your own, not your characters) and dont get this game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pros & Cons & Loss
Yes, I will admit it, this is a good game. I played it for eight months and eventually lost interest.

Reasons for goin' frigid?
1) I remember one of the first times I was playing this guy shouted - or whatever the exact term is, I can't remember - over the entire area that he had just leveled to 60 and was feeling very depressed. The reason is that when you invest time and energy into something something virtual that energy can't be used for something that's real. It's like preteen girls wasting their time on infatuation because it's the closest they are to true love. Except --- Most people have the option of leaving EQ and actually living their own lives.

2) I know a guy who was kicked out of college for never going to class and using the T1 line for EQ. He is now living in Texas and has a job solely to support his addiction.

3) Not impressed with the artwork/graphics/extreme polygons. (Although the textures were great)

4) I don't want to live there.

5) Neverwinter Nights. Pure friggin' ecstasy. ... Read more

Submarine Titans is a real-time strategy game set in the distantfuture. A massive comet hits the Earth in 2047, forcing survivors below the surface of the oceans. Units and buildings can be hidden in caves, under cliffs, or above opponents. The 3-D underwater universe contains five depth/elevation levels, winding mountain ranges, dimly lit caverns, cliffs, and dark tunnels. The four environments include toxic wastelands and the artic. 5-0 out of 5 stars The best game...ever
Copied from review on the RCE:

This game has a steep learning curve, and also steep system requirements, but the game is by far and wide THE funnest game out there in my opinion. Thousands of players controlled by their side's respective high commands (I am a proud member of Oberkommando Der Wermacht in the game), slugging it out tank on tank, plane on plane, ship on ship. Many historically accurate weapons modeled already and more every patch.

With 1.90, we have gotten:Depot spawning representing reinforcements moving up the line, Strategic bombing which ACTUALLY effects what can be researched by the high commands and how much gets produced, new tanks and planes, and in 1.9x series, we get:
Zerstorer 1934A (German destroyer)
Javelin (J) Class Destroyer (British Destroyer)
Le Hardi Class Destroyer (French Destroyer)
Sdfkz 251 APC (German Halftrack)
Laffly with mounted 4.7cm Anti Tank Gun
Stewart (M3) lend lease purchasable to the French
and more!

I am, like many others, an extreme WWIIOL fanboy. I have been playing the game since 1.10, where we had endless tank swarms storming across the Belgian countryside, up until present, when we have organized infantry battles, naval sorties, strategic bombing, air support, and more. And with "Brigade Spawning", the High Commands will actually get to deploy Kampfgruppes and Brigades, Divisions, Korps/Corps, Armies, and even Army groups over the massivee 1/2 scale European map, which currently models in detail Northern France, Western Germany, Southern Britain, Belgium, and Southern Holland, including much of the Zeeland Islands where pure tankless battles take place between determined marines. The map expands almost every patch, oftentimes by leaps and bounds, and giving us more territory to conquer and fight over. Yes, there are occasional expeditions by determined gamers to the Alps, Norway, and Scotland, I have been on a few myself.

We have the most dedicated group of game devs in the world as far as I'm concerned as well, all of whom are active in the community, posting in the forums, and playing their game, truely it is a labor of love for them.

If you're a casual gamer and just want to drive a tank and blow crap up, this is the game for you. If your a dedicated flight simmer who wants to escort bombers that actually affect the ground war and war at large, this is the game for you. If your a hardcore strategy enthusiast and history buff who aspires to lead an online army of fanatical troops marching through the streets of Paris, London, or Berlin, this is the game for you. If you are easily addicted to things, I must warn you:the game is regularly called "online crack", and for good reason ;). Accurate damage models (no hitpoints, actual damage and penetration data), large explosions, drunk people driving Opel troop transports at 80mph down a road with 15 people in the back, and more! Heck, come play for a month and become a flyboy.

PS:You actually don't need too great a gaming rig if you want "just decent" FPS, the hardcore guys will buy new computers practically just for this game.
I started out with:
Compaq with 750mhz AMD Duron
64mb of PC133 SDRAM
8mb Graphics Card

and upgraded to:
Compaq with 750mhz AMD Duron
704mb/640mb PC133 SDRAM
64MB GeForce 4 MX420

Decent frame rates though I had some issues, now I have:

AMD Athlon XP2800+ Barton (2.08GHZ)
128mb GeForce 4 Ti4200
512mb PC2700 DDR (Corsair)
Asus A7n8X Deluve Motherboard
homebuilt with lots of goodies plus monitor for about 900 bucks =)

If you want to play WWIIOL, Recommend the following:
1GHZ+ CPU
512mb+ RAM
Good Motherboard
Broadband internet (though 56k does still work, just not as good packet traffic)

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't played another game since I got it!
I've played this game for almost two years now and I still love it!
I still have bought nearly all the hottest new On-line games, but I always wind up putting them away shortly after to go back to WWIIOL!
The size, and scope, the fidelity to historical accuracy, and the ability to play as a tank plane AA gun or infantryman along with thousands of others in a accurately modeled 1/2 scale Europe is just too much to resist for any history buff!

Cornered rat Software is always adding new towns, equipment and features, so it's like getting a new game every month! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a TOTALLY different game from the one they launched
i was there at launch, and i would agree with most others that the game was a embarrassment to itself, but that was then. funcom has a work ethic, something other companies could learn from, and they turned a sure loser into a winner, everything i could think of being broken is atleast tolerable now. Lag is always a issue with online gaming, but it isnt anymore laggy than Eq, or Uo when passing through a major traffic spot. I guess if anything could be wrong with the game at this point, it would be the monotony, or the economics, the same things that tend to plague other online games as well. One more thing though, i would reccommend this game to any older , or more mature gamers, there seems to be a more balanced playfield here of mature gamers, and alot less grief players.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointment
The game does not have a unique concept.Interface controls are still poorly layed out. Players viewpoint is though adjustable, keeps shifting( even in locked down behind the character mode)

Game play itself, in a word, boring.
...

LAGGGGG when your around other players, is so fearsome its sickening.Graphic models and terrain have collision and rendering problems. Also if you are just sick of the EQ zoning don't even think of Anarchy. You will see landscape and mobs beyond the zone line. hit the zone and pop up in an area nothing looks like what you seen through the zone barriers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great adventure, absorbing, a game for thinking adults!
Read the other reviews? Good! Now disregard anything written before September 2002 -- Funcom has made good on this fantastic online adventure game. The software is as solid as it can be, and the gaming experience is fantastic. You can build a high-level character in a few days of play, team up with others from around the world to level even faster, equip yourself with all kinds of weapons and attacks, and pick from a wide array of professions with an equally wide array of unique abilities.

If you like solid gameplay and are looking for a satisfying online community experience, then give Anarchy Online a try for 30 days and see if you agree with me.

Just be sure to set aside a ton o' time -- because you'll be pulled in and doing everything you can to level as fast as possible! See you online...

1-0 out of 5 stars Takes too much time
Well this game is pretty good but i thought the battles were too easy all you do is press the attack button and go get something to eat. another bad thing is the game itself. it takes so much of your spare time you have to choose whether to play the game or do stuff you actually need to do.The only good thing about this game is the enviorment. but its so laggy in most places you cant enjoy the scenery. I on behalf of most people that actually have a social lifewould hate this game just like me! I HATE THIS GAME!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the Impatient
This is a game that has a very complicated control system, inicially it is a lot like learning how to fly a plane, but once you get it you actually begin to understand a lot more. If you are not pacient enough to learn the controls this game is not for you. One of the features of the game is that there is not much help ofered in the help stations around the game world, but that is not necesarily a downfall. After all this is a mass multiplayer game and relies on the interaction among gamers for it to be successfull.

Because this game relies on cooperation among players i actually found the gaming experience much more pleasant than in other mass multiplayer games. there are also numerous features in the game that make hacking and stealing of items very difficult so there have been no known attemts to try this, and if there have been attempts to hack Funcom has been vigilant in banning those accounts that have tried this. of course there are some buggs in the gameplay, but they actually make the game more entertaining, most of the buggs that cause crashes have been eliminated since the original version was released. FunCom also provides extencive information on how to fix some of the buggs associated with your hardware not callibrating to their software.
If you're not sure if you will like the game go to their website and download the 7 day free trial and deside for yourself. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars They never stop taking your money
If you decide to quit the game THEY WILL NOT STOP CHARGING YOUR ACCOUNT. Even after you ask them several times charges will cantinue to accrue on your charge card. You will have to tell your credit card company to stop accepting charges from them in order to get the charges to stop.

Star Wars Galaxies is a lot more fun anyway.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Game Worth Your Time
By far the best of the MMORPGs out.Loads of variation as to game style: solo, teaming, 1-on-1 and mass PVP, camping uniques for uber items if you want to be 1337, tradeskills, roleplaying, etc.Great graphics. And while I'll admit that the original launch and expansion had bugs, the patches have corrected these issues and I find the game to be very stable on my medium end PC and looks great with my old GeForce 2.Major problems: mass PVP does tend to be laggy; high level content is somewhat lacking (although this will be fixed with the Shadowlands expansion coming out next month); and the professions are not completely balanced in PVP.But after a year of playing, I have no regrets and made some great friends.

Most importantly, because the game has a steep learning curve and is somewhat overwhelming at first, it seems that a lot of the KeW1 d00dZ have been scared off. This has left a player base that is a bit more adult and intelligent than in other MMORPGs like EQ and UO.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW- The Best Game Ever
This is one of the greatest and most addictive games ever. It has a variety of paths that you can take, and the complexity and detail is amazing. You'll be hooked from the beginning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shocking
Anarchy Online has come so far it's simply shocking. This game is definitive of a buggy release, but what a game there was hiding in there!

There's a load of complexity here. Learning how to best shape your character. Some very pleasant graphics with a great cyberpunk look. Enjoyable combat. A diversity of races and classes. They've just revamped the mission system, making them more challenging and visually interesting.

There's also a thriving social scene--people actually go to clubs to hang out and to dance. And despite the game's mascot, the fuzzy little dweller of the newbie zone the "leet", the game is populated with largely intelligent people not given to d00dizm.

There's no question that while still overlooked, Anarchy Online is among the best of the MMPORPGs along with Everquest, UO, and Camelot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try it and you'll stay
I was dubious about this game because of the disastrous launch. However, I downloaded the free trial and purchased it before my trial even ran out. I was fortunate enough to beta test the Notum Wars expansion. It adds entirely new elements to the game which are of special interest to PVPers and guild members. Although this product is labelled an expansion, I urge you to buy this version if you are new to the game, since it contains the regular game as well. If you buy the special edition instead, you'll more than likely find yourself buying this later.

Within a month of going to AO, I found myself dropping EQ, AC, and several other games. I was hooked! It's solo friendly and no two characters are remotely alike. Over the last few months I have gotten 7 people I know to download the trial. Of the 7 people, ALL 7 decided to buy it. If you're still unsure, download the Anarchy Online trial, but you'll probably find yourself wanting Notum Wars eventually. The trial does not allow you to use the expanded features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars frequent gamer
I haveplayed all the games out there, and there is no other game like world war 2 online. This is not your average first person shooter, as you can play as a soldier, tank, boat, or aircraft. And instead of just trying to beat levels, you and thousands of others from around the world are trying to "Move the map" in an attrempt to win the war, and rewrite history.

you cant go wrong at this price either--dont waste your money on other FPS games, wwiiol is the best out there, just try it for a month and you will see why!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing game!!!
The game is very fun. There is a slight learning curve but once you get over it, it is simply amazing. You can play infantry, tank, sea, or plane. The graphics are getting better with each patch, and so is game play. What really puts it over other MMOs is there is much less of a time commitment and CRS really keeps in touch with their more mature playerbase.

2-0 out of 5 stars In my opinion....
The game has come along ways from where its tragic beginning was, you have to remember this game has a huge patch that comes along with the disc and having a dial up will be no fun. Its best to get a friend to DL the patch or buy the patch disc for this one. At three dollars for the game thats an excellent price for the KEY number to start the game on-line. This game is no an offline game!

The patching for this game is slow compared to larger companies and they come with there problems also. All in All what the C.Rats are trying to accomplish is exactly what the gaming community wants in a WAR game. The Realism (not the graphics) but the action of the game is right there. This game isn't really intended for someone under 12 and yet they have to have allot of majority to play with some of the older community which relies heavy on team play to win. There is little or no support if the game doesn't work for you or on your computer which will need the current fastest running vid card and processor along with ram. The game is not finished and may never be there is currently one theater and they have been stuck in 1941 for the last two years as to the vehicle set. It can be addictive but frustrating at times just as much.

5-0 out of 5 stars As terrifying as real war
This game is stunning, Screaming divebombing Luftwaffe planes strafeing convoys, terrific artillery barrages, dozens of bombers carpet bombing entire cities, stunning panzer vrs. tank battles, bloody infantry battles where wits and tactics are the hero of the day, become a high ranking general and plan massive operations agaist the enemy front line or stick out as a grunt fighting for country and people.

This game is worth every penny.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, money and effort
...For a few months, I enjoyed the game. I convinced some friends to play as well... we formed a guild and all was nice and happy. During this time; however, the company seemed to experience an unusual amount of server problems and crashes. (leading to character deaths) This became a nightly frustration. Pleas for help went un-noticed and several e-mails directly to the company went unanswered. Hours and hours of game time were going to waste, with no compassion from the company causing these problems.

On top of the server issues, as we advanced in the game, we were forced to deal with an usually large number of "griefers". These are people whose sole mission in the game is to make your playing experience less enjoyable. They will intentionally lead hostile monsters to your location to get you killed, attack creatures you are trying to tame, or just interfere enough in your combat sequence to make it impossible for you to win. Despite the fact that the game has a supposed strict "no harassment" policy, don't expect any help. You will get the answer that they must witness the harassment in person, which is putting the cart before the horse as the moment a GM (game master) shows up to witness the event, the harassment stops. However, if someone uses a bad word (which is kept in a journal system) they will suspend the account. Despite the fact that it seems to me that physical in game harassment is far worse than someone swearing at me, there is nothing they are willing to do to enforce their own rules.

Presuming you endure the server crashes and are willing to put up with the "griefers" you will very quickly max out your character and experience all the game has to offer.
You have the ability to create up to 5 characters on one account, which is nice, but very little separates the majority of character classes. Ultimately, all of the "craft" characters (blacksmith, tailor, alchemist, scribe, tinker, carpenter, etc..) involve a boring series of repetitive keystroking to master. The last obstacle for most people is crossing into the land of Feluca (the game is divided into 3 worlds... in Trammel and Ilshenear you can only play PvM (player vs monster), but in Feluca, you can play PvP (player v player) to try and get some of the "power scrolls" which allow you to build your character a bit stronger. Unfortunately, once in Feluca you are forced to deal with a force much worse than griefers (PKers and Thieves).
These are other players who get their kicks out of killing your character and/or stealing your items. I ultimately learned that many of these players use (sometimes illegal) third party programs to gain advantages, making them nearly impossible to avoid or survive in a fight. Unless you are willing to spend more money on a legal third party program (such as UO Assist) or are willing to risk your account by cheating, you will not be able to advance in the PvP world.

In-game quests and scenarios are poorly thought out and dull. There is very little offered in the way of in-game "events" that could produce a greater community feel. Scenarios don't seem to connect in any meaningful way, making in game stories impossible to enjoy.

Ultimately, after a few months you find yourself wondering why you are still playing and paying a monthly fee for it. ...The nature of the game is such that there is no ending... no completion... no feeling of actual accomplishment. You always feel as if you are reaching for a goal, but are not sure what that goal is or why you are reaching for it.

Overall, if you are a fan of D&D and/or RPG games, this game will not keep you entertained very long and will ultimately leave you feeling as if you wasted tons of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, My Rock in the world of Games.
I had to write this because of the couple of poor reviews that might put you off.

Were talking about a game here that has over 200,000 people PAYING to play, ontop of buying it. It is by far the best game i have ever played, I've been playing now, for over 3 years and theres still so much i want to do, and i'm talking about playing, 8 hours a day, even now after three years.

Theres are hundreds of character types you can choose from the sensiblem to the damn right werid and Unique - meet my Sleath Miner Thief Scout character.

Bored with a character or a skill or want to try another, or even a whole new skill set, no need to delete your character, just mark your old skills as down and mark your new ones as up.

With new stuff, skills, monsters being added all the time (5-6 Major updates a year, plus lots of minor) You never run out of things to do.

The graphics are great, they do they job, they look a little outdated at first, but you will love them once you start playing, no clunkly 3D, but nicely drawn sprite and cell animation.

Sure i play less for a while when Squaresoft or Blizzard release a new game, but after a few weeks, when i've finished the game i'm back upto 8 hours a day, or what time i can spare.

The Day i lose interest in UO, i have no idea what i will do, it really is my rock, the game i keep coming back to. Just don't bother playing if you have to have a linear game or goal, there are no goals or paths in UO, other than Life.

2-0 out of 5 stars HUGE waiste of money!!
Ok, I've been playing UO for 4 months-It was absolutely THE FUNNEST GAME EVER for the first 3! So much to do....sadly, once you hit 4 months-you realize there isnt anything to do on it anymore. It's just plain too easy to get a poweful character and can fight DRAGONS alone with no difficulty AT ALL. There is absolutely NO challenge-the new land adventuring area "Ilshenar" is awesome the first 10 times you go-then its soooo boring. It's tiny-they hardly added ANY monsters (even though they told us they were GOING to)-all you can be is human-graphics in 3d are terrible-2d gets old-the screen is tiny-hardly any equipment. The world is sooo dull and boring-all the dungeons look the same(caves) only wiht a couple different monsters. EVERYTHING about this game is dull-you'll realize it in 3 months :).So if your looking for a stupid game to waiste 10 bucks a month on for 3 months go for it. If you want to play a game which will keep you at your computer and give you the adventure and fantasy you desire. BUY EVERQUEST. DONT buy this game...trust me!

2-0 out of 5 stars UO is dead
Im sorry but UO is a dead game.LBR shows it is.UO is like stuck in the very old role-playing games. The graphics are awful and the monsters are have BAD AL.This game is fun for about 3 months. Allso there are skill caps so if you go over you cant gain skills or exp anymore.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOOOT
Three words, best game ever. I have been playing for about 6 months maybe 7 and its still fun, I think pvp is the best aspect but some of you people might not agree (trammies) After pvming for a while, it always gets old so try something new and try to kill someone ;) I highly reccomend this game although its addictive.

5-0 out of 5 stars best gameyou never played !!
this is a quality RTS game.original design with very good AI.

check out some reviews on it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than you'd think
Superb graphics. Clean AI. Truly exciting battles. Creative strategies. And, i had no problem with this on my own system. I even have windows xp and i got this to run very easily. Don't knock this game because some guy knows so little about his own computer that instead of trouble-shooting, he goes out and gets another one and even IT wont run the program. I thik this game was and still is underrated. Massive levels with a pretty cool multiplayer setup (8 players on my lan!) The background (space, mostly) is BEAUTIFUL. Runs on a moderate system. Athlon 900 / 1 gig ram(pc 133)/ geforce 4 4800 (128 ddr) / soundblaster audigy 2 / 12x dvd+rw drive / 24x cd-rom drive There is a little rough language, which is where the fifth star went. There's little need for that in a great game like this. It takes away from it, really. It just feels forced.

2-0 out of 5 stars great.... if you get the thing to work
i saw this game last year in stores and immediately shelled out [$$] for it. so you can imagine how [upset] i was when i took it home and found that it wouldn't load on my laptop. the autoplay did not work. so i figured my dell 3800 was just too old and loaded it on a more current machine. it seemed to work all right; until i attacked the enemy forces, at which point the game decided to restart the whole computer.
i gave it 2 stars because of the better than average graphics, and the excellent AIs. the best feature is the ability to build a general and easily label/create units. from playing combat games in the past, i know that when you are under attack, you need to find your military, and the ability to hit F3 to highlight all your ships really simplifies the process. plus the generals (or i guess admiral would be better since the game is only ships) give weaknesses and strengths to the units you put them with, and have a type of personality of their own: be it aggressive or more docile.
also, i liked the wormhole feature. you can guard or destroy wormhole gates and setup shipping lanes which seem to be quite realistic.
unfortunately, i was never able to fight, so i don't know how the game panns out overall. but i definately recommend getting the game if you think you can make it work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classy MMOG
I'll be the first to admit AC2 had its problems when it launched. However, all of these have now been resolved. The player classes are largely balanced, there is lots to do in game, the crafting system works well, there are now player run vendor shops, the PvP system is alot of fun, its a very newbie friendly game, the combat system is the best EVER in any MMOG. Its fast-paced, tactical, and requires skill rather than just button bashing. definately worth taking a look. Also there is an expansion pack coming out in March with a new race, new continent, and new expansion levels Hero system adding new skills and combat skill-chains.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just not fun
AC2 has good graphics. It just isn't fun. After you get over the novelty of new graphics (which have now been surpassed by many other games), you start to grind.and grind. And even that wouldn't be too bad if you weren't doing it all alone. The point of multi-player games is to play with other players. In AC2 there are times when there is NOBODY else around.Sigh.

3-0 out of 5 stars It would be fun if...
This game really does have it all.It has a lot of stuff to do and the enviroments are truely a marvel. The thing that takes away from it though, is that no one plays it.This game would be better than WoW if more people played it.It's peak population was like 600!!!Also, it has probably dropped now that WoW is out.Anyway, I would have to recommend WoW instead of this game. It's the same formula only 300,000 people play it.Your choice though, play with 600 people or 300,000 people.

3-0 out of 5 stars not sure
I bought asherons call in 1999 and played it for awhile then put it aside until now. I want to play it again but find then download to regain all the updates I have lost is over 100 hrs so thought a new versdion of the game would solve this hope thats true.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting better
I originally played AC2 in beta and was one of the long-time AC1 players who vocally complained about the mechanics and bugs pervading the game during beta and at launch as well as the seemingly clueless development team willing to release the game with the myriad of flaws.I never purchased the game but did watch from a distance as the game failed, transferred solely to Turbine and began to receive the attention it needed to become the game it could have been all along.I am now playing AC2 again and can say that I'm truly having a blast. The game has made great strides, from the character development at the low to mid-levels to the quests that are readily available and fun to do in groups or solo.Additionally, the new crafting system is outstanding. There are still many areas that need attention, particularly the high level skills (called Hero skills in AC2) and the lack of storage, however
