5-0 out of 5 stars Why did I wait?
I have seen this game out for awhile now. I really dont know why I waited. Well I bought the CH Fighter stick, and USB Throttle controller. This game runs great with them. The graphics in this game kick on anything I have. It runs great too. I also got the Forgotten Battles and Ace expansion pack. I total enjoy playing this game. Very realistic, and sounds great. It now my favorite flight sims, next to Microsoft 2004. Combat or noncombat I am flying. My only regret is why did I wait. UBI Soft did it right on this game. I have other product from UBI Soft but this game is #1. I wont wait so long next time. If you are in to Flight Sims like me dont pass this one up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game
Damn, this game is incredible.Even if you rev your engine, the plane will rotate a bit from the torque.Try to learn how to recover from stalls on all the different models, then learn to recover the ME-109.It ain't easy but once you recognize how your plane of choice acts when it's about to stall, you can pull aerial maneuvers that really ride the edge of the aircraft's ability.I guess that's where 'flying by the seat of your pants' comes from. This game is just overall unbelievable. It's hard to imagine how people used to actually fly and fight in these things considering the difficulty of just getting up and landing, nevermind combat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its almost real.....
This is a true combat flight sim. If you have the ram and the video card for this game it will feel and look real. This has some fantasic weather too. I have a very fast computer with the top Gforce card and I run it on XP home. It is a great game to play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Error. Error & Error
I installed and reinstalled this program. It takes forever to losd and then fails to load the Humans. Microsoft combat sims are much more reliable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't load it
I have a Pentium III 700 mhz and XP operating system with an ATI rage 3D card..
I can't get this sim to run at all....CFS II and Strike Fighters run great on my computer. Microsoft makes the best flight sims. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I could play it over and over!
I just started to play this game again a few days ago after not touching it for years.I completely forgot how addicted I used to be to it.I can't imagine why I stopped other than I must have gotten unbelieveable busy.
This game is so fun.I love to name all the rides, stalls, parks, and even people... I love to pick all the colors and create my own coasters. You can play it again and again, infinitely many times, and have a different game each time.I am looking for something to do with my gift certificates from christmas so maybe I will get RTC2.
The #1 complaint I have with the game, however, is that there's a lot of "down time", where you're just sort of waiting for more money to be made, and you have nothing to do besides naming things and coloring rides... which is fun, but does get a little monotonous. That's why I always bring my homework with me to the computer so I can do that in the intervals.I must say, I really don't end up getting much done, so I guess it's ok.But still, although I don't know what could be done to solve the problem, I feel like a computer game should be able to hold your undivided attention.
But it is STILL way worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun!!Definatly Worth the Money!!!
This is a very fun game, also for the kids!!The only thing that I wish was alittle different, was I wish they had a freeplay...where you can make the park however big you want it, with no money limits. It is challenging with having to beat the senario's, but a break with some freeplay would be nice.

4-0 out of 5 stars an ok game
this game is ok but there aren't any ones that u can have just a flat piece of land and all of the other ones u have to beat so the game is ok.

4-0 out of 5 stars asome!
I love this game. I don't have RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, but I have the first game and I love it. It's defintly worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars exciting
This game is really fun, but some of the games get a little too big to handle, and then taking the time to get the security guards and handymen to do their jobs, and changing the rides functions, you will start the game later than you expected. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy to see old favorites back again!
While this isn't the version of Galaxian I remember (no ship capture, nogreen aliens, etc), I sure enjoytaking a few moments out of a busy dayand playing an old favorite.I also love to revisit my Pac-man days!Onlything that was surprising to me was that software came on 3.5 diskettes...I was expecting CD-ROM instead of magnetic media.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have Pac Man Fever
I received my game yesterday, and I rushed home to try it out. I wasamazed to find myself still playing at 3:00am. I was not disappointed. Thisgame brought me back in time to when I fed quarters in the machine hourafter hour. The graphics and sounds are exact, and Pinky, Blinky, Inky andClyde are awesome. I did find that purchasing a joystick enhanced myplaying fun. The only thing missing is the warning label that this game isstill highly addictive.

5-0 out of 5 stars ...They are not new games, but fun games
Microsoft did a pretty good job on providing us with the 4 Namco arcade classics for the computer. Each game is exactly like the original, but you can use different controlling devices such as a mouse for Pole Positions, and the much better keyboard for Pac-man.Also you can change the settingsto make the game a little bit easier or harder. The problem is these gameswont run in 16 bit color or higher, but all you have to do is just changeit to 256 colors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past...my kids like it, too!
OK, I've seen the reviews by people who DON'T likethis package..I understand their complaints...BUT..its fun..I enjoyed playing the games, so did my kids. They are easy to play and understand, easy to learn, and playJUST like the originals. You can play them with Joysticks, or with yourkeyboard, and, ask my 8 year-old, you can play them for hours, they are asfun as they were years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Highly Recommended
If you want an exact replica of the 80's arcade games, this is it. Reviewed on its own terms (that is, does it do what it's supposed to do and how well does it do it) this game is perfect. As a 30 year old I playedthese games as a kid at the roller-rink and the play is flawless. I have asidewinder controller and it works perfectly. If you liked these games, getthis software. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars It knows what you have in your hand!
This game is OK for the basics, but don't expect anywhere near a real experience here. I can't tell you how many times I get beat on the last card, with just one higher card, say a 9 high to my 8 high. Always with only one card higher! That's not real. Plus, too many of the players are idiots, while a few are otherworldly lucky. It's nothing close to a random draw, and that's what you need for a real experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars This toy is so fun!
I first played this toy at my friends house and thought, "How fun!"Of course then I wanted the game for myself. When I bought it, I played every game and loved it right away. This game rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Card Games is Great !It's from the experts.
Hoyle Card Games is a great way to learn the finer points or learn a new game all together. This CD is free of bugs; the graphics and audio are very good.Hoyle are well-known rules experts.

3-0 out of 5 stars have to learn all over again

5-0 out of 5 stars Puzzle Game

4-0 out of 5 stars moon tycoon
I first bought this without looking at the reveiws at amazon, but i found i thoroughly enjoyed it.It was the first tycoon game that was in 3d which was why i bought it.I really like tycoon games. This one was great! The missions are clearly possible, the graphics are great, the gameplay is great and the structures look really cool.Even the inflatable houses look neat. There are some cons though.Such as:The screen movement is choppy and it's VERY hard to keep your budget in tact.In the reagular version you start out with 50000 dollars to build your entire colony. When you finally finish you can look back at your work and enjoy it because the layout they made is beautiful, a real eye opener.I too wished when i was playing this game that i could just settle in one of my colonys. It is clear how any sim would want to settle in on someone's colony.
Recommendations: I would recommend this to anyone who is good at keeping good budget at these games.
Not recemmended to: Gray Davis

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Absolutely great the whole family loved it. They especially loved to own the Lunar colony.Out of this world excitment. This is the best out of like 15 tycoon games i have ever played

Moon tycoon is HOT!!Make you own Lunar colony!! Control every aspect of life on the moon.Control the number of tourist attracttions and much more!!Even control mining and scientific industries!! Buy this COOL game and you wiil be hooked on it for hours!!You've never regret buying plus it's very cheap!

4-0 out of 5 stars moon tycoon
This game is very interseting, and fun. Takes a little time at first to get things moving, and you frequently run out of money. But has awesome grapic features. I would really recommend this game for a "tycoon" lover

4-0 out of 5 stars fun BUT
My grandson (6) and I love the Tycoon games, however, leveling out the ground on this one is REALLY tedious since you have to do 1 block at a time.
We found a trainer to keep our money up and everything else is not only doable but fun if you like to build.
Justin really enjoys the Zoo Tycoon series, we have all 3 and at 6 years old he told his nana he wants to be a anthropologist when he grows up.Now he's excited about this one and who knows???He may want to be a space colonist when he grows up :-) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Get rid of the "Assault Gunboat" and you've got a good game!
There's some great game play involved in "Tie Fighter". If you loved "Star Wars" and would love to take part in it too, then this is a game for you. You can get some wonderful stella dog-fight action and have plenty of interesting missions to choose from supported by a not too imposing story line. My only complaint about it is that for far too many of the missions you have to use the "Assault Gunboat" which is basically a slow piece of junk with no fire power and weak shields. It doesn't even look like a Tie fighter and it's presence in the game is unnecessary! Whoever designed the game thought it would be really neat to have the "Assault Gunboat" in it, but it's actually really naff. Somewhat of a disappointment as it is almost impossible to do any of the missions without geting blown up. It would be much beter if you could decide for yourself what you want to use. Get rid of the "Assault Gunboat" and you've got a good game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Aging, Yet Superior in Plot and Structure
TIE Fighter, by Lucas Arts, remains an impressive game many years after its initial release.Allowing you to pilot a variety of craft while serving the Empire, TIE Fighter lets you delve into the Star Wars universe from a perspective difficult to acquire from other games.

Being an older game, TIE Fighter lacks the stunning graphics of modern flight simulators. It uses no 3D acceleration card, but the software rendering is very fast on any modern machine, and you should have no trouble with playability. The combat sequences still look good, as do the animation scenes. The animations were impressive when the game was made, and still hold as much wonder as 2-dimensional animated figures and ships can muster.

In this game, you fly various spacecraft for the evil Galactic Empire, engaging in a variety of missions and campaigns in various sectors of the galaxy. The plot is especially strong for a space combat game; the campaigns all link together into a coherent story and plot developments in one campaign will affect your experience in later missions.Additionally, the view of the inner workings of the Empire's space forces that this game provides is fascinating and different: inner strife, wavering alliances, and the tensions hidden throughout the Imperial Navy's strict military structure all are slowly revealed through the course of the campaigns. If you ever wondered how flying for the Empire would differ from flying for the Alliance, behind the scenes, this game can provide you with an engrossing and unique view.

Learning to control your craft is not a difficult task. The game includes tutorial-type missions in a "flight simulator" that guide you through the basics of movement and ship control.Your ship has enough functions and controls to make the experience realistic, but not so many that you feel that you are always fiddling with the flight controls instead of flying your ship. You learn the basics of ship movement, propulsion, weapons systems, and how to operate the targeting computer quickly, but there are plenty of unnecessary advanced features for the player that prefers complexity and strategy. Before long, you will delight in using your targeting computer to locate individual laser turrets on a large ship and destroy them with concussion missiles before flying in close to finish off the crippled vessel. The completeness and power of the interface is often stunning.

The behavior of your wingmen is much improved over TIE Fighter's predecessor, X-Wing.Now, your companions always understand and acknowledge your commands, and almost always will obey them. Thus, if you really need support in a ferocious dogfight, or you need a particular ship destroyed before it jumps to hyperspace in 45 seconds, you can rely on your ability to call in your wingmen to help you out.Of course, their increased usefulness makes them more valuable, and you will have to protect them and ensure they are not destroyed early in a long battle.

TIE Fighter also features a flight recorder, with which you can record films of particular battles. These films remember the positions and actions of every ship, every missile, even every laser bolt, and you can replay the movies, following the craft of your choice (friend of foe) through the battle. There is even a feature that allows you to enter one of the movies, taking the helm of the player-controlled craft to complete the movie as you will. This allows you to film your most daring attacks and greatest victories, and not only watch them, but attempt them again and again.

The Macintosh version of TIE Fighter is the last of the great space flight simulators by Lucas Arts to be produced for the Macintosh.X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance are both PC releases.Note that the game is better with a joystick, but is too old to support input sprockets. While this is only partially relevant for Mac OS X users, Mac OS 9 users with USB joysticks that rely solely on input sprockets will need to use custom USB drivers. If they are not available from your joystick manufacturer (most are not), an excellent shareware Mac USB driver utility is available at http://www.usboverdrive.com .

TIE Fighter is one of the rare games that crosses many boundaries, providing an excellent and exciting flight-sim while simultaneously containing a rich plot and excellent control systems. The powerful flight recorder is an added bonus to an already superior game.Join the Dark Side and fly for the Empire, and you will have an experience you shall never forget.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serve The Emperor
This game is the best space simulator I have played. When I compare it to it's predecessor X-Wing,I see how great it is. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all better, and you fly seven ships instead of four. There are dozens of new ships in game, allowing for greater variety.Plus,no game is as dedicated to serving the Empire and Empire only as is TIE Fighter. When I played X-Wing,I thought was doing something noble and good.I see now how wrong I was.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, but a better deal around the corner...
It is a great game... with a wanna-be twisting plot line that kinda makes you feel a part of it all.Ok well the plotlines aren't the selling factor for this game.It is a great game to have and own if you are a star wars fan or just enjoy simple classics to pass the time and nothing as involving as other 1st person games like BattleZone or whatnot...it's also a great game to edit with a good deal of editing programs available. They programing for the game is really good and provides for a large number of possible effects and abilities, only limited by the 28 object/per battlefield rule.It is truly a classic, but if you want to see a better version of this, try the Lucas Arts compilation of Alliance, X-wing, X-wing vs. Tie-fighter flght school, and Tie-fighter all in one, with new graphics like Polygon Skins and expansions beyond teh 28 object rule.I myself have owned just about every version of Tie-fighter from the 3.5 Floppy version to the Collectors CD-rom DOS mode to the beefed X-Wing Trilogy (star wars and trilogies... gee).It is truly a good game with even more fun waiting in the editing fields. If you like Wingcommander, X-wing or anyother flightsiulator then this is one you can definitely have fun with.

2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated graphics...Outdated sound...Just Outdated!!
I'd like to consider myself a Star Wars fan, so I was looking forward to getting this game. Even though, I was expecting "okay" graphics, I thought "it can't be that bad". But after watching the opening sequence, I have concluded that this is by far one of the worst Star Wars games, in regards to graphics, that I have ever seen. It was enough to turn me off completely and curse the day that I had bought the game. Even the music, one of the things that makes Star Wars "STAR WARS", is horrible. Forget the orchestra! You'd be lucky enough to get a synthesizer!!*Please note: this review is based on graphics and sound alone. I am still in the disappointment phase so I haven't really gotten into the storyline of the game. If you are a die hard Star Wars fan and can tolerate crappy graphics/sound, buy this game... at your own risk! If not, don't waste your time or money. In either case, you'd have more fun playing with the actual toys. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars stable masters 2
Somewhat disappointing and difficult to play.Horse racing games are few and far between, and even fewer of them seem to focus on what I find fascinating...the selection, raising, management, training and breeding of the horses and the understanding and development of good bloodlines for racing in the fictitious world of the game. You don't even get to have the fun of naming your own horses in this game. The races and betting are fun, but you seem to have little power over what kind of horses you end up with. There is no mention of bloodlines or anything, and the only horses you can buy are ones that have been racing or are about to be raced and inexplicably are put up for sale by other "owners".The horses you start with in the game are awful (can't even win a maiden race to save their lives), and the decent ones for sale are far too expensive to afford, and even the cheap ones are selling for far more than it seems they are likely to ever win.Realistic, I guess, but not very satisfying, as there seems to be no way to raise money except by betting....which is somewhat random, obviously. The game does not have a tutorial, and there is no manual in the box.The manual that is available as an adobe file is very limited and gives no details on the mechanics of playing the game.I found instructions on line that were better.

It would be nice if the selection, raising and breeding aspect were part of the game.Worst of all, the training buttons don't seem to work the way they're supposed to and I can't get the downloaded patch that is supposed to fix this bug to execute.I keep getting a message that some graphics file is an "unknown version" so the patch can't run.I tried reinstalling the game, as suggested on ESP software's website, but to no avail. ... Stratego, the popular board game of battlefield strategy, comes to life on the computer. You have an army of men and weapons at your disposal. Your mission: capture your opponent's flag and protect your own. Your troops range in rank from scout to marshal--but your opponent doesn't know the ranks of your players. Each is disguised as an innocent drummer boy marching across the battlefield while cautiously sidestepping hidden bombs. When engaged in battle, characters morph into toy soldiers, and their ranks determine who emerges victorious. This is the game for developing your strategic skills. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
I put in a lot of hours playing Stratego as a kid. With the goal of searching through a board filled with different ranking army members to capture the enemy's flag, Stratego contained the right amount of pure strategy with just enough luck that a well placed bomb could easily turn the tide.I would have loved to have seen a reputable conversion of this classic.Unfortunately, Hasbro, in their zeal to cash in on the popularity of board games, rushed this problematic hunk of junk out the door so quickly that it's virtually unplayable.

First of all, this game was made in 1998, so the graphics are pretty chunky and clunky.Secondly, and this is a huge problem, they made it so you are unable to tell any of your pieces apart!Remember all those pieces you have on the board? Now you have to remember the ranks of all of your pieces as well as the enemy. This problem could have easily been solved by displaying the ranking as you mouse over your individual pieces, but nope!Makes too much sense.

Third, weren't the highest ranking members #1, #2, and so on respectively?I'm certain the miner was #8 in rank.Well, in this version the numbers are backwards (!)Now your miner is a #2 and your top ranked marshal is a #10.So now not only do you have to remember the numerical rank of all your pieces, you also have to remember them backwards.

Are you starting to get the feeling none of the developers have ever played this game before?

This feeling will be confirmed once you play against the computer. The A.I. is so incredibly bad that it will put its top ranking pieces on the front line, charge your line, but won't attack anyone unless they move.My first game against the computer my scout spotted the top ranked #1 (err... #10) piece on the front line.It then came straight at me and sat there until I sent my spy over to kill him.Well, that was easy. And when you charge the computer it gets even better.Just send one of your top ranked pieces over. One by one it sends lower ranked pieces at you and it's not until it gets right next to your top ranked guy that it "remembers" how tough your guy is.As soon as the computer moves away from you, chase it down and kill it.Tough game, eh?

Unlike the other reviewers, I was able to get it to work on Windows XP, but even at a bargain bin price this game is a joke. One was all it took for me to hit the uninstall button. So take it from me, your Amazon spy, drop the bomb on this game and send it to the trash can it came from. What a waste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strategic, Customizable, and Slow
This is easy to play if you've played the board game, but the animations are time-consuming.I do NOT recommend this for hotseat play (multiple players on the same computer), since this is inevitably difficult to play in a "stealth" game.I'll describe the game; if you've played, skip to ////////.This game is strategic. The goal is simply to capture the flag. You start by placing your pieces, which include a spy, a flag, 6 bombs, and several ranked pieces. That's the part where different strategies come in.You can make a decoy for the location of the flag, or surround it by mines, or put your high-ranking pieces in the front. It's up to you.The bombs can only be diffused by miners, and scouts can move great distances at a time.//////// The computer game has battle sequences, all well animated and visually appealing, but they can be time-conuming.There are 5 boards to choose from (wood, grass, board, etc.).Various setups can be saved to memory, so you don't have to redo it every time. The internet play is frustrating to set up if you don't know what you're doing. For Ultimate Stratego lovers, all versions of Stratego are included, including the 4-player game.Ultimately, I recommend this for people who like the board game or other strategy games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recreation of a classic strategy game!
I purchased this game in December of 1999.I am very pleased with thisgame. It has animated battles that are very entertaining. Also, theon-line playing option is exceptional--with a lot of challenging opponentsfrom all over the globe!

If you are looking for a great strategy gameand a lot of tough competition, this is a winner! If you buy it, look meup on the zone!

Amazon.com Review

Pit Droids poses the age-old math question: "If a droid traveling five miles per hour leaves Mos Espa at dawn, how long will it take to get to the Arena Gate?" Watto, Tatooine's notorious junk dealer, has purchased a large pit-droids shipment to help with the pod races. Naturally, the droids don't know the way, leaving you to direct the capering mechanoids to their goals by placing various arrows in their path.

Right from the slick panoramic interface, Pit Droids is a blast. C-3PO's thorough tutorials (featuring the inimitable Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2's chirpy in-game help will have you herding the hordes of droids in no time. Not only do you need to avoid collisions, you need to change droids' attributes, sort them, and adjust the timing of their patterns. While holding your attention with the frenetic puzzle-solving fun, Pit Droids quietly refines your logical-thinking and problem-solving skills, making it a great game for older children as well as adults.

Pit Droids rewards progress with comic short films of the clowning droids in action. Eight locations offer more than 300 puzzles spanning three levels of difficulty, and the Puzzle Editor lets you build your own devices. It's enough to keep you interested for as long as the droids keep you scrambling. --Jack Gardiner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The second best game!
This is my second favorite game next to runescape. I really love to make up my own puzzles and have my dad (yes he plays to) try them. The whole family enjoys this game. I would reccomend it to anyone who likes puzzle games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun Game!!
Almost endless amount of pre-created puzzle But then! You can creat your own!Loads of fun!

1-0 out of 5 stars This is not good
YO people, dont waste money on this. Trust me! It is boring. i mean, it takes forever to just beat one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Challenging, Graphic, and Limitless
Star Wars Pit Droids is not exclusively for Star Wars fans, and is an excellent puzzle game if you want one.It has three levels of play for all people. The goal is to use the arrows provided to literally point the different pit droids in the right direction. However, they have different colors, helmets, and tools, so you have to guide each type to their destintation. It's 3-D and has pretty good graphics. There's an online exchange for puzzles that you make, which has some EXTREMELY difficult puzzles, much harder than the game provides.Making a game in this is pretty easy, but picky. It doesn't agree with the standard Microsoft interface, and forces you to use buttons for cut-and-paste.The major downside to this game is that you can only save after completing a level, not during one.Overall, I suggest this for people who want to be challenged or to challenge others.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is hard, escpecially Hard Mode, but fun
This game is fun.You work on many puzzles to get your pit droids to the Podrace Arena.I won a T-shirt for a 13 year olds contest on this game,I had to get 144 pit droids to the Podrace Arena before too many other opponents did the same.I would recommend this game to any one who isn't too (not smart) as I wouldn't want to insult you readers! And also,if you want a cool pit droids T-Shirt,you can buy it now and practice until sometime in Year 2001.Then you can sign up for a totally cool contest! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive, One that survives the times
I got tired of the first-person shooters I was playing and went to the archive of my gaming library to play this very addicive game. When it is time to take a break you just have to go one more turn.A complicated game of solitaire as I can find no current game support for multiplayer, yet this does not take away from the fun as you can't play the detailed battle scenes in multiplayer anyway. It is cheap and with low specs. I also recommend the strategy guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a Great Game this Was
Up until OS 9.1 this game was a favorite. But it is no longer supported and will no longer play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay but could have been much better
The game puts you on the throne of a European empire around 1600 A.D. You get to discover, explore, and conquer the new world, while fending off imperialist rivals and vengeful tribesmen. Usually, a certain number of provinces need to be conquered to win. These are taken from neutral states in Europe, from other empires, and from natives in the New World. The oversees provinces bring some new resources like tobacco, sugar, and precious metals, which are important in the technological and industrial trees. Meanwhile the metropolis pulls standard resources like coal, wool, wheat, and wood from the homeland provinces and converts them into skilled workers, weapons, and ships.

Pros:
- excellent baroque music and atmosphere
- balanced overall model where compromise, combined arms, technology, and strong economy are intimately related
- okay technology tree
- nice drawings of ships and ground units
- nice details in shipping and naval blockades
- entertaining turn-based battles with okay combat system

Cons:
- Civ-like boring and old land-development system.
- The diplomacy model is substandard. Alliances mean nothing. Declaring war and shifting allegiances in a trice is ubiquitous. In such chaos, diplomacy is virtually meaningless, as is anybody's word, which turns the game into a perpetual clawfest among crabs in a barrel. It is exceedingly hard to reach critical mass. Bribes are very ineffectual too.
- There are no psychological factors like grudges, animosity, and obstinacy. Very bland and uncharacterful.
- The economic system is tedious and repetitive. There is pretty much one good way to win, so once you learn it, there is no replay value in terms of economy. It gets tedious and boring after a few games to spend all this time worrying about number of fabric rolls and cigars in one's stores, while one would want to deal with general strategy and geopolitics.
- Spying does not reveal any strategically significant information.
- Armies are not difficult to maintain, but are horribly expensive to use. The opposite should have been done for far more playability and historical accuracy.
- Little European neutral states are armed to the teeth with state-of-the-art weapons. Later, the same is true for natives too. Ridiculous, since the player has seen how hard it is to research and build these weapons even for a mighty empire. Proper maintenance fees would have fixed that in passing.
- Graphics is mostly outdated, even if most units are beautifully drawn.

Overall impressions are positive, but there was clearly potential for much more with proper design choices. I sold back my copy for store credit after playing it for a month or two, so it comes to show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Perhaps I'm a stickler for playability. One of the design challenges of any empire-building game is that the more territory you conquer and govern, the more details you typically have to manage. If you (and the designers) are not careful, you can eventually get swamped with them-- especially if you are a perfectionist.

An outstanding feature of Imperialism II is that this does not occur nearly as much as in other games of its type.It is, instead, a true strategy game. You are not a paper-shuffler, you are the pilot of the great ship of state in a multi-dimensional ocean. You need to think carefully under ever-changing conditions to decide where to chart your course and keep it in good trim.If you are going in the wrong direction, heaven help you if you don't realize it soon and face the facts: and then you need a sharp lookout and patience, because a ship of state doesn't turn on a dime.

A key concept is balance. You can never do everything you want or need with available resources. At every turn you face policy decisions:Should you increase your road and port building?Your food production?Develop forests, mines, or plantations? Build transport ships-- oops, not enough food for the sailors, but how do you get more food without more ships?Do you sell goods to get money to buy various raw materials?Do you buy raw materials because you need them, or can you afford buying something just to curry favor with a potential colony or ally?Invade Indian territory, or invest in it and try to keep your rivals from invading?Build up your armies, even if it seems that you never have the funds to send them into battle?Join alliances and risk being drawn into a war before you're ready?Or stay aloof and risk the rest of Europe's ganging up on you?Do expensive research yourself out ahead of the pack, or spend less (usually) money and resources for spies, forever playing catchup learning what others already know? The choices are innumerable and the relationships among them infinitely subtle.

I do not place a lot of stock in fancy graphics, but must say that the colorfol look of this game, compared to the muted and vaguely depressing colors of Imperialism [I], is another attractive feature. The sugar... the tobacco... the spices, gold, and gems in the New World:they make your mouth water with the desire to reach out and grab'em.It's hard to remember that they are just means to an end, as territory in the old world is the key to winning or losing.

I've played many such games, and aside from Civilization, I think Imperialism II has gotten the most things right to date.

5-0 out of 5 stars a really cool game
it's a greatgame filled with suspence and excitement.
When you play this game you never know what could happen.
Hang on to your seats.
P.s. I know my boyfriend would really love it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent and realistic military shooter/sim
"Conflict: Desert Storm 2",just like the original "Conflict: Desert Storm",is a very well done military simulation for practicing basic combat infantry tactics, while still keeping the game really fun on a shooter-type of level. In other words, this is not a mind-numbing run-and-gun game -- you must think how you and your squad should assault or defend various positions; or the enemy will kill you and all of your men. There are not many games out there with this winning combination of realism, excitement, enjoyment, and playability: This is one of the few that successfully combines all of these elements.

4-0 out of 5 stars ummmm....... this is a cool game that i havent played yet
i think this game lookes cool i have the 1st 1 and i really like it the best part was the cussing and swearing i hope they put more in the second 1 mwuhahahahahahaha!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars good game... but no online?
Graphics are little behind "good" for a 2003 game. But other than that, awesome gameplay. The thing I hate most is that there is no online play. I always play my brother over the LAN and now we can't do it. I can't give you another alternative game because I don't know one. If you play games for the campaign, then this game is for you. If you're an onliner, then get another game. The campaign is still fun though.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
this game is great the graphics are awsome and the challenges are tough but fun.i would recomend this game for anyone

4-0 out of 5 stars What I Expected
The game is very much the same as the original game, with a few more details and enhanced graphics. The controls are the same, the game layout is the same, and the fun is the same.

I enjoy the game and like the layout of the missions as well as the squad command features. I like games were the missions are difficult without the controls being the challenge.

There is a lot of enemy soldiers to kill, tanks to destroy, and C-4 charges to set. Not recommended for children. ... Read more
