5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended challenge, but frustrating
The idea here is to give the user a virtual jigsaw puzzle building experience. The puzzle, when completed, is a three-dimensional reconstruction of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

In the beginning, the user chooses a difficulty level, which determines how many pieces the puzzle is broken into, as well as how the pieces are laid out on a semi-circular virtual table.Using the cursor and mouse, the user brings the pieces together, sorts them in areas of the table, and gradually constructs the cathedral.Visual clues are available, as well as views of the completed puzzle, from any angle.

The level of difficulty chosen has another effect, in the type of payoff at the end. When the puzzle is completed, the user gets a tour of the cathedral, including historical trivia, on virtual placques, and ghosts, surprises, and a guide. However, the higher the level of difficulty chosen, the more access the user gets in the completed cathedral.More difficulty = more rooms, more secrets, more trivia.

Oh, and by the way, the graphics are truly great here including clarity, color, and resolution, and the sound effects are pretty good, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Puzz 3D: The Orient Express
you have to like putting puzzles together or you won't like this gameBut if you do then its a great game but not for a 128.00 thats way to much for this gamei didn't pay that much for my.

4-0 out of 5 stars Have patience!
I thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle and gradually increased the difficulty as I grew accustomed to manipulating the pieces and connecting the sides.Having recently visited Notre Dame, I had a ball putting together this puzzle and look forward to trying the others by Wrebbit.Working this puzzle requires a good computer and, as another on-line reviewer noted, frequent saves to prevent lost work. The software taxes the computer memory and sometimes causes crashes.I've updated my machine since playing Notre Dame, so, now that I've ordered Bavarian Castle from Amazon, I'm hoping the new puzzle will be better tolerated by my hardware.

Good luck to all who love a challenge!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
For those of you who are puzzle geeks like me, this is an innovative twist on jigsaw puzzles. You can learn how the game works on the beginner level and work through 4 total levels. Exploring the castle is really cool, but finding the missing sword pieces will make you crazy. My only complaint is that you can't control the viewing zoom level on the pieces. Still worth the time. I plan to buy all of the editions.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Computer Game
I have not been able to travel to Germany yet, but on my first visit I want to see the Neuschwanstein Castle. This video game was a dream come true.It is a challenging puzzle, but once you have finished the most difficult level, you can continue to enjoy again and again the beautiful vistas inside and outside the castle.I put it in often, the game is like bringing an art museum inside your home. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Bloody Hell!
I love Monopoly but it's a pain in the royal chambers to set up all the money and clean it up after you're done. I thought this game would get rid of those problems, which it did, but it also made new ones. The host sound like a yankee carnie from the early 90's, dare I say. The computer always maanages to land on his own properties all the time and is quite stubborn in the trade aspect. This game frequently freezes, which is another annoyance. Finally, the map editor. It seems like a brilliantidea, but you can't save your bloody work! Overall, if you enjoy playing cartoon-like games, this is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you love the board game then you'll like this.
Monopoly is one of those games you may not want to play with friends because basically someone has to win and everyone else really loses. However, here you can play with someone on-line or on another computer hooked up to your or with computer players. One word of caution: the computer players cheat a lot!

1-0 out of 5 stars The tail is wagging the dog
For the first few minutes, you're likely to think this is pretty cute. The view of the board zooms around in 3D, the little dog wags its tail, and the characters make droll comments. But after those few minutes it will dawn on you--all this cute stuff is getting in the way of playing the game.It takes the patience of a saint to make it all the way through an entire game, and you're unlikely to want to play another.Even if you disable as much of the cutsie stuff as you're allowed to, the view of the board still zooms around in a way that will make your stomach turn (and prevents you from getting any real sense of the location of the pieces).Play is excruciatingly slow, and frequently interrupted by the silly (and ineffective) attempts at trading by the computer players.

It's loaded with sound and graphics but it's essentially unplayable.Buy this only if you DON'T like to play Monopoly.

1-0 out of 5 stars What OS are you using?
On anything OS 9+ on two different machines a CD game that worked a few years ago is now totally unsupported and useless. I hope this current CD works for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hold the Phone!!!
I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here. This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC.There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it.Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants.BWUAHAHAHA!!!

But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level. You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard!My description here doesn't even do it justice.Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out.If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad port, boring game
I received this game last year as a gift and I had nothing but problems with it. I was in touch with the company who ported it from the PC version. I think it was one of their first Mac ports, and they were little help. I finally got it working unders some conditions on my wifes Powerbook.I never could get it working on my G4 766Mhz desktop. I think it was the Nvidia card.Oh, the game is a complete memory hog, too.

Anyway, after playing the game for awhile, I discovered, while it is pretty to look at and fun for an hour or two, it is completely boring beyond that.

In sum, this game shares the SIM moniker but it doesn't live up to the SIMs name.

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing, with serious tech problems
It's simple at first, and kind of fun. However, as the game progresses, the roller coasters and attractions get harder and harder to figure out. The game (even with my G4 Cube) often freezes, and even in the game itself your rides break more often than natural (if you get my drift), the people you hire to fix rides and clean up the park stop doing their jobs even when you place them DIRECTLY in front of a problem. In the full version, all the little details confuse you to the point your head will almost explode. The people in your park get more and more impossible to please. Its more frustrating than fun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What an "AWESOME" PC game!!
Love it!!It's from Masque and I knew I'd love it.I look at it this way...why should I go to a casino and lose money, when I could just stay home and play the same slot games (as in a casino) in my livingroom?I lose no money, but get the thrill of playing a replica of a "real casoino" slot machine .Every game one this CD-ROM is at the casino.Same look, same reels and same payouts. The only difference is the sound. And that's great too!
I really think Masque Publishing has a great product and I hope they can continue to produce awesome PC slot games.I am a loyal customer to them and avid IGT and Bally game player, both PC game and at the real casino.

5-0 out of 5 stars As close to you can get to the casino
I love these games!! It's as close to the casino that you can get without driving! I especially love the Betty Boop slots. This Cd includes:
Several Betty Boop regular and as well as progressive slots
Diamonds and Devils
Blazing 7's
Black and White
99 Bottles of Beer
Platypus Game
Boxcar Bonus
Hot Hot Hot

and many many more. Max out your bet and never worry about losing money for real!

Options include .05, .25, $1, and $5 slots as well as payout options and ability to reset your bankroll at any time. I can't say enough good things about this software!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Fun!!!
This is a companion to Slots By Bally, and it is almost as fun as the original, Slots by Bally has plenty of regular slots but also have 20 plus Video Slots with Bonus Payouts which are extremely fun. On Slots 2 we have 6 Video Slots with Bonus Payouts and they are 99 Bottles of Beer, Boxcar Bonus, Hot Hot Hot, Money Poppers, Play the Market and The Platypus Game; All are very fun and I find I play these the most. One negative is you can play them only in 5 cents, Quarter and One Dollar modes and not five buck mode like on Slots By Bally (I like betting $225 a hand when its not realLOL). But the graphics are great and there machines are very fun. This Disk Slots 2 has a lot of slots you will find in casinos like, All American, Ball of Fire, Betty BoopTM All American Girl, Betty Boop'sTM Big Hit, Betty Boop'sTM Double Jackpot, Betty Boop'sTM Re-Spin Roundup, Black and White 5 Times Pay, Black and White Double Jackpot, Black Velvet, Blazing 7s, Blazing 7s - $5, Blazing 7s - 3 Coin, Blazing 7s Reel Gems, Bonus Blazing 7s, Bonus Times, Born to BoopTM and many others. If you into slots this is a great game, overall I prefer Slots By Bally better; but I like this one (Bally 2) as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great gaming software
Wow we had played their previous version and had thought that was fun, but this sure topped their old version. New games, more video slots with those terrific bonus rounds. If you like casino gaming you'll love this software. It will bring hours of entertainment to you and your family. Their latest release(Slots From Bally Gaming) is also a five star hit. They all have realistic graphics and are easily installed on windows 2000 and windows 98.

5-0 out of 5 stars best ever slot game
I was sceptical of buying this game, after having bought several other slot machine games from other company's which had turned out to be boring.First day I received this I immediately started to play it. I was amazed at the enjoyment that I, as well as a friend, got from this.I love the bonus screen games. Its just like the ones you find at the casino. Its fantastic having several different ways that you can win to keep the game interesting.I suggest that anyone that likes the slots will love having this game.I'm hooked on this,I will be playing this all the time,if my friend doesn't get to it first. To bad I didn't have two computers in the home. My friend loves the 99 bottles of beer, where as I like the party poopers one. Hope another one comes out. Thanks again ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

CogniToy's first game, MindRover, takes gamers to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, in an intriguing new adventure designed to bring intellectual challenges back to competitive gaming. With an immersing 3-D environment, a compelling soundtrack, and its innovative graphical wiring system, MindRover asks the gamer to think more and twitch less. MindRover players find themselves in a research station perched on the ice-covered moon as Jupiter dominates the sky overhead. Your task is to construct small robotic rovers that compete with one another in a variety of challenges. What's particularly new and unusual is that it's not just a matter of choosing weapons. The player actually gets to control how the robots react through a visual programming metaphor that CogniToy calls "wiring." In the construction lab, players choose bodies, drive trains, sensors, weapons, and manipulators for their robots from a large array of possibilities, then visually wire the sensors to the controls to give each rover a unique set of behaviors. The rover is then moved to the competitive arena and set free to take on all competitors. In one arena, the competition may be a race, and players would likely choose small, fast vehicles with sensors tuned for staying on the course and avoiding obstacles. But in the very next room, the goal may be simply to be the last robot standing, in which case it might be a good idea to festoon a tank with a whole array of weapons, along with radar units to guide them. The game includes puzzles, mazes, treasure hunts, and other unique problem-solving tasks. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Well, it's better than Myst
I enjoy playing the Myst games once through, they are fun and challenging. However my computer would not allow me to hit a certain switch for some reason, and I was therefore never able to get to the location on the cover. Even if I had, I would never play the game again, I would know how to do everything, and therefore, what would be the point? At least it is better then Myst in which you can win within about 15 minutes of starting the game, but still... Any 60 dollar game (as it was when it was released) should last longer than this. With the detail put in, the game itself is rather short, with puzzle solving accounting for much of your time. Also some puzzles can be so frustrating when you know what to do, but can't (the stopping the scopes thing, the puzzle at the top of the dome on the first island). I thought it was a beautiful game, but I wouldn't get it unless it is below 20 dollars, otherwise I don't really think it's worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking and mesmerizing
It goes without saying that the world of Riven is beautiful, all inclusive and fun to walk through. However, this game is based soley on its beauty. If you love walking through beautiful environments while investigating clues to the book of D'ni, then get this. You find clues, but you don't always know what they mean. This game is utterly confusing and can get VERY boring for most people. I bought a guide to help me and I got very far in the game but still didn't know what I was doing. The guide at least helped me to explore more places that I probably would never have seen.

Honestly, if you can get this game cheap -- any of the Myst series games cheap, do so if you wanted to buy it. I mean cheap like under three dollars if possible, because there isn't much to do in the game and you'll probably play a while, put it away and never look at it again. Not for impatient gamers, non gamers and not for anyone with a short attention span. The puzzles are for naught, they are hard, confusing and don't make any sense. The complete 3D world is really what you're paying for. That's why I say if you can find it cheap, buy it because it's really a waste of money otherwise, despite how beautiful it looks and sounds, there's just not much you can do besides walk around and look -- some interactions, and you may get giddy when you solve a few puzzles, but over all it's just for the fantastic visuals and music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too opened-ended for most.
Riven looks like Myst. Riven sounds like Myst. Riven plays like Myst...sort of. The producers emulated Myst in almost every way but they decided to change one important thing: they made it more open-ended. In Myst, you start on a small island, told what to do (collect pages) and have unlock other areas to proceed. In Riven, you are dropped in large area of five interconnected islands with only the vaguest idea of what to do. To find your way on your own requires a meticulous manner and loads of free time. My advice is spend a reasonable amount of time then use a walkthough as needed.

A technical note: I could not this running in Windows 2000. Riven requires Apple Quicktime 2 to run and after installing that I could get the sound to work. It may have a conflict between Quicktime 2 and Quicktime 6/iTunes also installed. The game ran fine on Windows 98. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Ever wonder what it would be like to be commander of one of the starships from the Star Trek series? With Simon & Schuster Interactive's Classic Star Trek: Captain's Chair, you can find out. This program gives you a personal tour of the USS Enterprise, the USS Defiant, and more. Star Trek officers narrate your virtual trip, visually enhanced by photo-realistic QuickTime graphics.

You explore five ships inside and out, panning, zooming, and rotating your way through dozens of 3-D props and objects. Along the way, you can activate consoles, phasers, monitors, and tricorders as if you were in command of the ship. The program features more than 1,600 linked hot spots that simulate real Starship commands. The graphic simulations of the ships are impressive, and moving your way around is easy. No doubt this is the closest experience to being on one of the Starship bridges you could have without actually being there (or on a Star Trek set).

There is only one problem with this program--nothing happens. Once you've looked around the ships, there's not much else for you to do. You may be disappointed that there are no Klingons to fight and no place to beam to. Unless you are a Trekkie fascinated by every ounce of Star Trek trivia, you might fall asleep in the Captain's Chair. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's fun to poke around the bridge
Overall I agree with the other reviews. I purchased this "game" when it first came out. It's fun to poke around and play with each station (blow up Voyager? oh my!) The only problem I've had is the E conference lounge access - anybody know how to get in there? I haven't been able to find any hints! Arrgh

5-0 out of 5 stars Ensign you have the conn.
I have a ton of Star Trek games but, this is one of the neatests.
You get to go on any of five Star Trek Bridges and push buttons and shoot probes and phasers. The best part is you get to pick up props like phasers and hyprosprase. You even get to open a tricorder. The games mostly free-roaming, actualy it is all free roaming. It's live action to exept for the original enterprise which is cheap 3-D. The only bad part is that you can get bored after your first three days of playing. It's not like you sit there for a month and try to beat it. It is a game to come back to and play every once and a while though. COOLEST STAR TREK GAME EVER.

P.S. I hear people buy this game and get disapointed because they can't free roam the whole ship. I do have another game called STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION INTERACTIVE TECHNICAL MANUAL that let's you free-roam every main room on the enterprise-D only. Including Enginering, Ten Foraward, Transportation (like beaming) and even the captains quarters. Check this game out to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most under rated of Star Trek CD's.Could use update.
I don't know why this one never caught on.It has all the graphics and sounds of all the popular ships.Enterprise the original, the E and the D, the Defiant from DS9 and Voyager. It covers just about everything except the engine rooms which could be done with an updated version. It's literally has just about each sound and graphic from each bridge. It's something I found by accident at a local gaming store.I always thought there was no way they could make a decent package.Seeing the copyright is 97' it's not the most sharpest picture, however the computer graphics from each ship work station make up for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Starship Bridge Multimedia
Visit five different starship bridges and you get to press the buttons to launch shuttles, fire weapons, go to warp, land the voyager, and more. Plus examine all the bridge stations and the LCARS (Library Computer Access and Retrieval System) screens, plus many hand held items on seats and tables. Examine the exterior of the ships. Plus play three different games on the original Enterprise bridge. Uncover the secret code to unlock a sixth bridge of a klingon ship! (Hints at maxiumdefiant.com) A great addition to any Star Trek Fan's collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better
Captains Chair lets you get your chance to roam around several bridges of the Star Trek series. While it doesn't let you freely roam, you do get close up's of the chairs, stations and even the "heads" of these ships. You also get detailed information about the crew, ship functions and episodes. What is really missing is the chance to roam the entire ship, room by room. Wouldn't that be something! ... Read more
