Gearhead Garage is a point and click kind of game where you are presented with a virtual car and must disassemble, repair, and reassemble to meet customer demands. The game starts out easy, with a stable of virtual economy cars and clunkers that roll into your garage, as well as animated customers who will offer advice if you get stumped on a job.As you progress, more vehicles become available.Digitalized representations of classic T-Birds and Mustangs as well as beefy Ford Pickups and Broncos are brought to your garage for repair, and you have the option of buying salvageable vehicles at an auction. The goal of the game is simple--to make money--and you can do that by working on customer cars or buying cars at auction, fixing them up to your specifications (almost all have custom options and upgrades), and reselling them.Perhaps the best thing about this game is the availability of custom cars for download, such as '57 Chevys, '70 Dodge Chargers, and even a Santa and sleigh.Since the custom cars are creations of technically adept fans of the game, some work better than others. Many of the custom cars have very high polygon counts that make them look very realistic, but will choke a slower system. At least they're free, and their availability makes this game infinitely more interesting. Sprint Car Racing, on the other hand, is an almost worthless game with no redeemable qualities. The controls aren't customizable, and the gameplay is about as involved as one of those plastic games they sell at gas stations with a bb inside that you try to navigate into a hole in the back piece.Actually, given a choice, I'd rather play the bb game than the Sprint Car Racing game that comes on this disk.

Amazon.com Review In State of Emergency, you play as one of five selectable charactersthat's going up against the Corporation--a tyrannical group that has the city inan iron grip. The city is in a state of disarray and the citizens are rebelling.Amazingly, up to 250 characters can riot onscreen at once. It's shocking thatthe developers were able to render so many moving characters while keeping asmooth frame rate. Basic gameplay consists of picking up numerous weapons andobjects to cause as much damage as humanly possible. Providing context to themindless violence are the revolution and chaos modes. The former is the game'sstory mode and features more than 175 missions, while the latter is asingle-session mode with a few variations. For the most part, the game is an enjoyable cacophony of senseless violence, butthere are some flaws. Although the revolution mode boasts an impressive numberof missions, they do get repetitive. The game screams for a multiplayer mode, but it's strictly one player. In spite of these flaws, the game remainsaddictive and fun. It bears repeating that gamers looking for another GTAIII will not find it here: this game provides an arcadelike experiencethat's excellent, but in a very different way. Parents should note that thisgame carries a Mature rating for its blood, violence, and gore. --Raymond M.Padilla Pros: Reviews (294)

Amazon.com Review The game plays like a side-scrolling classic without seeming too dated. Playerstraipse around a nonlinear dungeon, defeat monsters, and unlock new parts of thedungeon, often through the use of new abilities. It's similar to the excellentCastlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation, with the obviousaural limitations of a cartridge-based handheld system. Unfortunately, the game's dark graphics are difficult to see on the Game BoyAdvance's fickle screen. Long sessions require consistent overhead lighting, sothis isn't the ideal game for travel. The animations are also lacking, makingcharacter movement appear jerky. Despite these graphics shortcomings, thisside-scrolling wonder makes a fine addition to your GBA library. --Raymond M.Padilla Pros: Reviews (164)

The PSOne and screen is great for trips and such. If you buy this item I would recommend: 1. PSOne Car Adapter - Makes device Portable. Plugs into any cigarette-type outlet in car, even to socket on airplanes (check below your seat next time)! 3. PSOne Island Blue Dual Shock Controller (Awesome color) 2. PlayStation Memory Card (Light Gray or Island Blue) 4. PSOne Deluxe Carrying Case (Made by various companies) 5. 1/8" (Headphone jack type) Camcorder Stereo A/V Cable (Ask for at any Radio Shack, they will have it. This is ALL you need to hook up a DVD Player, VCR, etc. to the screen's AV IN. You don't need any PS2 cables or whatever described in another review.)

The built in sound isn't the best, probably like laptop speakers, but you can plug your headphones into it, or just use your AV out and plug it in to your stereo... The best part is, in addition to being a CD player / PS1 game player, you can plug in an external input for any kind of video - TV, VCR, DVD, PS2. Here's how. Buy a 1/8" stereo male to dual RCA female adapter. Plug the yellow video out from the PS2 into the white plug of the adapter. Plug the white left audio out from the PS2 into the red plug of the adapter. And you're good to go. The screen should turn itself on whenever the 1/8" plug is in. Sure you only get a mono/left signal, but if you can switch your material to mono it works. 95% of the time this should be fine. Or you can buy further adapaters & combine the left & right signals. ... Read more | |

The characters are all really compelling and friendly (no blood and guts here folks) and they interact in fun and interesting ways. We really liked the gameplay. The action and graphics are smooth. The controls are natrual and intuitive and the music is catchy and fun (not the cheezy stuff that drives us nuts). There are lots of characters with different strengths and you can even make your own. This is family fun at its best.Highly recommended.

Editorial Review The 3-D environments in Silent Hill are bathed in fog ordarkness, making its dismal setting all the more eerie; this alsoallows for some spectacular lighting effects when using a flashlight inthe dark. Granted, there are some pretty coarse graphics being obscuredhere, but it's a fair trade-off, considering the game's short loadtimes. Silent Hill is played from a third-person perspective, viewedfrom both fixed and moving camera angles. As with similar games, theviewpoint can be awkward at times, especially during combat, which hereis so clunky that you should try to avoid it whenever possible--somethingyou should do anyway, as this isn't Tomb Raider. Rather than resort to cheap scare tactics, Silent Hill featuresa gameplay twist that works very well with its limited visibilityenvironments. Harry carries a radio with him that crackles with staticwhenever the game's nasties are near, and continues until they're nolonger in the vicinity or have been killed off. (Enemies may requirefurther whacking when they're down, as they like to play dead.)Additionally, the supported Dual-Shock controller pulsates in aheartbeatlike fashion whenever you're moderately or seriously injured.--Joe Hon Pros: Reviews (182)
