5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST FPS game EVER!!
I've played lots of FPS games: Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Quake I & II, the DOOM series, Unreal, the AvP series(which is awesome), Wolfenstein, Deus Ex(also awesome), etc.You name it, I've probably played it...but QUAKE III wears the crown for most badass straight-up FPS game.Very intense and lots of fun.And the online Capture the Flag games are highly addicting. This game is about 3 years old and I'm still waiting for someone to top it!DEFINATELY WORTH THE MONEY!!

5-0 out of 5 stars plz ship one game to germany!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quake 3 is still the best!
Quake 3's DeathMatch and CTF cannot be compared. It's got the best graphics and physics of any FPS - much better than recent games like UT2K3 and BF:1942. If you want extremely intense action with superb physics and perfectly balanced weapons, Quake 3 is for you. It has tons of mods, tons of servers, and a huge community. It's easily the best first person shooter in the history of gaming and still remains the king.

Read the FiringSquad review - which covers the game best - in summary:

"So what does Quake 3 give you? It's quite simple: the utter refinement of deathmatch, and the ultimate multiplayer shooter experience - nothing more, nothing less. " -- Dennis "Thresh" Fong

4-0 out of 5 stars Totally Wrong!
This game works well on Windows 98, but twice as good on XP, which isn't included on the list, and on 98, I can't even finish a level. I need a Windows XP for myself now. I am hoping it works on that. My friend has the XP I used, and I thought it would work worse, but it works so much better, I was dying to play all the time I was there. We even finished the game! There is not enough RAM on my windows 98, and it's probably the problem. I have 56MB, I need 64MB. I would like to see what that XP has. I would not suggest using this on Windows 95 or 98, but on a newer model. This game needs some better testing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome game
I got this game the first day it came out and at that time a voodoo 2 and voodoo 3's were considered powerful. And with this game they are. The multiplayer is great! Oh plus you can start a skirmish and make it a sever. But the funnest thing is to just go on other peoples servers. Plus if you put in a 128mb vid card the graphics are like the best i've seen next to ut2003. And you can turn the detail up and run at 120fps! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy, monotonous, but FUN
So if you play xbox occasionally for fun/recreation, and you're not completely needy of story and cohesion - this might be the game for you. It's 2-D, like Contra. Real simple, just go from left to right blasting just about everything that moves. I recommend renting it first perhaps - see if you think it's worth actually owning. I found it fun to just kick back with a beer and a buddy and laugh while playing it; it's really quite funny - one mission you're on some kind of island destroying giant crustaceans, the next your outside some town fighting the undead. You'll die a lot, I mean a lot. It's all good though, going through it over and over again allows you to notice some subtleties that you wouldn't have noticed since you're usually just shooting everything that moves. In the undead mission, the zombies don't just lash at you, some pull out their intestines and squirt stuff at you! It's ridiculously gratuitous and over the top but entertaining nonetheless. If you like 2-D shooters, this is probably the only thing out there for you on the xbox. Not bad, could be a lot better though - the graphics are good but anyone who's played Doom 3 knows what the xbox is capable of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who says side-scrolling games are dead?
These days it seems like consoles and handhelds are trying to pack more and more processing power under the hood to give us ever increasingly realistic 3D environments for racers, first person shooters, sports games and the like. That's all well and good, but sometimes a game that looks really pretty can be really ugly, simply because they spent all that time rendering 3D polygons and never considering whether it was fun to play.

On the other hand, there are games like Metal Slug 3.These days it's hard to find any company willing to take a risk on a flat 2D or side-scrolling game, let alone a modern console manufacturer who wants it as a title unless it's a "retro" greatest hits set like Midway Arcade Classics.Metal Slug 3 is a happy exception, a game which recalls the finer days of your youth when there was nothing better than playing Contra or Rush'n'Attack. Are modern systems too powerful for such simple concepts? Not at all. This games is beautifully rendered, smooth scrolling, action packed and at times downright funny (in one underwater scene you're attacked by giant eels named "Helen" and "Linda").

This title lives up to the old Atari credo that games should be simple to learn but difficult to master. You will not beat Metal Slug 3 in one sitting, but you'll have a literal BLAST running around blowing things up over and over, getting better with each attempt.Kudos to SNK/Playmore for producing it and to Microsoft for releasing it.It's a shame more companies don't take the chance on games like Metal Slug 3 and Alien Hominid that as fun to play as they are cool to watch, all in a gloriously flat perspective. If someone tells you 2D isn't cool any more, hand them a controller and watch how much they enjoy this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED+SUCKED=SUCKS
omfg this game is so g@y it is the 21st centry and this game is like the 1st centry of video games omg!!! WOW sry but this game is just S--H--I--T i dont understand why u would buy or even rent this "thing" its not even a playable game it is a pice of bulls**t

4-0 out of 5 stars The rooting-tooting -shooting,behind-booting game of '04
Finally Metal Slug 3 on the X-Box has arrived and it is kicking butt.I enjoy these style of games because it reminds me of when I use to go to the arcade and play Metal Slug 1 and waste all my quarters trying to pass it.Good action/shooter with plenty of gratuitous violence and cool explosions for anyone who was a fan of the old shooter games(Ikari Warriors, Contra) My only beef was the difficulty of this particular game. damn this game is hard and the fact that you only get 5 lives and have to continue from the beginning of the level all the time kind of irritates me.Other than that you will have plenty of fun playing this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good retro-style shooter
What a blast! This game hearkens back to the days of the original Duke Nukem, Contra, or any of the other great twitch-shooters of the past. It's essentially a mindless shooting game, done in retro side-scrolling style, but as that goes, it's a lot of fun. You basically travel through levels, killing anything and everything, grabbing powerups as you go and trying to survive the constant onslaught of enemies the game throws at you. For a retro-style shooter, it's a reasonable challenge, as enemies sometimes overwhelm you with their sheer numbers. The bosses are fairly tough, as well, and there's part of the problem with the game: You get between three and five men to start each level. Let's say that you lose your last man fighting a boss. You hit "continue," thinking that you'll get a fresh set of men to resume your fight with the boss. WRONG. You have to start back at the beginning of the level! That can be very, very frustrating, especially when some of the more challenging levels can take all but your last man...and then you have to face the boss with just one life to spare! (Ouch!) If you're careful, though, you can survive the worst areas intact, especially if you're patient enough to watch for powerups. Strongly recommended to fans of shooter games or for those who loved the old side-scrolling action games (like me).

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game, But The Path Getting To Play It Is Not Great
The good news is this is a great game. There are a great number of races and cars available. The physics relative to the tracks and cars are excellent. Although I have spent only about 10 hours playing this game, I can see many hours of enjoyment from the challenges and graphics it provides.

The bad news is it may take you a while to figure out how to get it to work with the computer hardware you have. It took me several hours. This is the reason I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 star rating. Before purchasing this game you can go to www.codemasters.com and download a demo. As I have not done this I am not certain how it compares to the retail game.

If you purchase this game and run into technical problems, the web site Codemasters provides does not have a menu item for technical support. You can get to a web forum with people going crazy over trying to figure out the problems they are having though. If you have problems typing the word "support" in the search box they have will get you to a form for technical support. I have no experience with what kind of response that would provide.

A summary of some of the problems I encountered are given in the text below. If you are going to be using a keyboard to play this game I would suggest skipping the rest of this message. If you are going to be using a wheel, the length of the following comments might seem to be discouraging.

On this I would say if you were to put in to words the steps it took to get into a car, start it, back it out of your driveway and point it in the direction you wanted to go, you would be surprised at the length of the description. Although there are a lot of details about getting the game to work they are not any more complicated than that.

The computer hardware I am using: 2.4ghz Intel; 1.5 gig Ram; ATI 9600XT (128 Meg), and the old (Red) Logitech Momo Racing Wheel.

For some reason the default brake/accelerator setting was set to digital rather than analog.

The default dead zone for steering is set with some play. This must be set to zero. The default zero line was slightly off center on my setup, but could be moved by turning the wheel one way or the other. Doing this would not get it centered exactly, but getting it close and hitting the down arrow worked.

A steering sensitivity set about 60 percent off the center line provided the best response for my hardware/preference.

Changes made to the wheel setting do not go into effect until you exit the game and come back. If you would like to race with the old settings before exiting to get the new ones, the program will let you do that.

Before starting a race you have to go through several menus using the left and right arrows followed by the "Enter" on the keyboard to make menu selections. During this process you might find the keyboard stops working. For me it was after selecting something other than the default car. Moving the highlight on menu selections after that point must be done by rotating the wheel left or right and back to center for each move. The handbrake rather than the enter key is used to make the selected menu item.

After going though all that you might find difficulty in steering the car. I suspect this is a problem many people have attempting to steer the car with experience from the physics used by other games or what is expected from the experience of the real thing.

The natural thing to do with a game like this is to attempt to drive very fast sliding sideways around the curves the first time you are out the gate. The first time you attempt to do this you will find the software does not adjust to the crazy stuff you are attempting to do, and it should not. While it might be very hard to do, driving very very slow for two or maybe three stages and keeping the car on the road will give you the knowledge about the software physics aiding in developing faster sideway skills you will be proud of.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch
The game gave me about $5.00 worth of irritation which I will vent here. After buying the game which advertises 30 something cars and 100 or more race courses, you will find that you will either have to "earn" access to the majority of these or pay another $5.00 or so to Codemasters to unlock them. My only other complaint to this otherwise terrific game is that the wheel setup is hard to figure out, but eventually by trial and error it works properly. Good software should be common sense to implement instead of guesswork. I bought a Thrustmaster FF Enzo Wheel and had to get a new driver from Thrustmaster (FFB_DRV_1_0_3) so Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 would work with the wheel. Bottom line, I wasn't too happy having to spend a few hours to get things working and have to pay extra for what is advertised in the game description. One more thing, Codemasters warns you that if you uninstall the game you will lose the extras. That would mean going online again, getting the 8 codes, paying another $5.00, and then reentering them again to unlock the game features. The work-around is to save the entire game folder AND the registry settings, and swap them back in after reinstall. You shouldn't have to go through all this to make software function properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good game...
This game is challenging and fast paced. The co-driver calling out continuous verbal directions adds a whole new element compared to other visual type racing games. This game has rallies in 9 different countries with a total of 76 stages and over 30 different cars, so you can play for hours and never see the same stage. The reasons I didn't give Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 a five-star rating are: The game will not allow me to navigate the menu with anything other than the steering wheel/pedals, which didn't occur until after I configured my "wheel" for this game. This is very frustrating, since the instruction booklet only gives reference to the menu functions being controlled by the keyboard that ceases to function after configuring the "wheel", creating a trial and error button pushing malfunction-fest. This is probably a leftover of the console (game pad) to PC (no game pad) conversion. The other problem I encountered is the fact that this game has many obstacles that are deliberately placed specifically to crash you. For example, immoveable posts alongside of many roadways and also bushes that although wispy and transparent, stops the car dead while others have no effect and can be driven through. Although some may argue that this adds to the challenge, I feel that it just adds frustration. Overall, this game is very entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best rally sim on planet
Colin McRae 2005 is without as doubt the very best rally sim ever crafted by humans.

The system specs for the PC version are printed on the box. Read them.

The XBox and PC versions are virtually identical save for the flexibility and extra resolutions on PC.

The physics model is less exacting than Richard Burns Rally but far more so than Rallisport Challenge 2, very meaty and real for the sim purist yet fast, fun and accessible for the gamer.

I simply can't reccomend this masterwork highly enough.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for laptops!
I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with a 64m GeFx4200 Go card and this game is unplayable, even at the lowest settings. The keyboard and mouse controls become unresponsive, as do some of the wheel buttons. This is the response I got from the manufacturer:

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong 4, weak 5
If you have bad internet connection, don't get it. If you like to drive vehicles or play in a huge 150-player war and have good interet connection, get it. Slightly better than B:1942. As simple as that.

2-0 out of 5 stars A useful review for you dial up gamers out there.
When you read the blurbs located in various locations on the box it states that:

Breakthrough technology allows you to play on a 56k connection as "smooth as silk".

I read that and thought, "Ahhh, the replacement for Counter-Strike and Battlefield I've been looking for!"Not true.Apparently silk is not as smooth as I was lead to believe.Don't misunderstand me, however. When I was able to get into a game I enjoyed it very much.Usually I was booted within five minutes by the hosts of the game for high latency.Normal ping was around 300-400 on the smaller servers.Trying to play on the larger servers with 100-150 players is impossible on dial-up.

If you have broadband, which most people do, you won't experience these problems. If you are stuck with dial-up as your internet connection don't buy this.

1-0 out of 5 stars BORED TO DEATH/SCREWED TO DEATH
For the PRICE and the NAME of the maker you would expect more. This is an ONLINE game that ONLY works if you install the included SPYWHARE that sends your internet protection into spasums everytime you turn on your computer. If you played Black Hawk Down and thought that OH another title from the same people IT MUST BE GOOD well IT'S NOT!! IT SUCKS!! IT SUCKS!! NOVALOGIC should be ashamed for putting out such GARBAGE and THEN trying to SELL an expansion pack. WHAT does the expansion pack clean the BOREDOME! I think all the people who got RIPPED off on this game should express how the feel!

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome game!!!
This game is very addicting once you get started. The graphics on this game are great. You can drive a variety of helicopters and boats. If you liked this game you should also consider buying th expansion pack ( Joint Operations :Escalation). Overall this is a great game!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice game, but....................
Looking for a war game that has realism, most of the current weapons of todays army, and vehicles (including helicoptors) that you can ride? This game has it all!! BUT, you'll find yourself respawning countless times in fustrating, after fustrating attempts to get on the battlefield with those weapons and rides. Soon after getting the hang of things you'll find lag and more experienced players kniving and shooting you back to respawn time and time again. I've played far cry and countless other war games and this one is for the very very very patient. Team play, yes, this game has that too However, no one actually uses the controls to "team play" and you end up one for all and all for one throwing as much firepower, grenades, and missles as you can just to stay alive for 2 seconds.

If you don't mind respawning 100 times a match, enjoy semi-teamplay (I use the term very loosely), and firing up to date weapons, then this game is for you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Men Of Valor XBOX Review
This game is extremely realistic, but the difficulty is very hard even on easy mode. I got it for my bday on (...) I beat Hamburger Hill and part of the next level. I am stuck on the ville part. After I clear the hooches in the first ville, I go through the grass to the bridge. I usually get past it but when I go to the 2nd ville I get killed. Also, my checkpoint thing is messing up so when I turn it off and then on again later I have to do the first ville again. Other than the difficulty level, this game is very good and will probably give you an idea of what it was like in the intense firefights of Vietnam. Maybe Vivendi should have lightened up on the language?

3-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful realism, but very difficult
I have been playing first person shooters since Doom was on the market.Men of Valor has wonderful graphics, story, and realism. The only aspect of the game I hate is the difficulty level. When the difficultly level is on easy I had to play some missions over 12 times!I pride myself on beating most games on medium to hard.If you like to play a mission over and over again this game is for you, but I like to progress through a game in a reasonable amount of time.Oh yeah, one more thing, there is one set number of enemies on a mission. For example, I was walking through the jungle with my squad and came upon a village of four to five huts; VC jumped out immediatly.I found cover behind a tree and picked then off with my M-14, but they never stoped comming. When I finished the mission I had killed 128(!) enemies in 4-5 huts.Overall the graphics, story, and weapons are great, but the difficulty level is like pushing a concrete block in the sand.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid First Person Shooter.
Men Of Valor contains intense firefights in the jungle's,underground bunker's,foxhole's,and towards the end into the city.I felt I was able to see the enemy better in this game than the other Vietnam games, but in the very dense jungle parts it was hard too see the enemy, much like the real vietnam war. There's no commands to give either to your squadmates, they pretty much figure it out on there own,but sometimes I wish I could direct them because sometimes they weren't any help, but sometimes they saved my but many times as I was flanked to my side by an enemy.Sometimes your followed by 2 to 4 teammates .And one mission is solo in the underground bunker.(The whole game you just control your own man).It kinda works out because you have your hands full with the many tough enemy soldiers coming at you.I played it on next to hardest setting and it was just hard enough to keep me going. But you can't save on the fly,you have to make it to a checkpoint before game automatically saves.I guess it took me about 25 hours to finish ,it seems longer than the other games. When I finished game a total of 1,330 enemies I killed. This is not a tactical squad type command shooter where you give orders mostly all tactical orders are given to you. You do have squadmember's with you fighting along side you, sometimes they took point ,but mostly it's you who's up front. You can also pick up enemy weapons and health, but you better be quick because they dissapear after a while. You can also switch out weapons trade your's for there's.You have a total of 4 weapon slots. Whenever I got the chance I would pick up an AK47 or any enemies weapon because your own ammo supply will run short, then you just pick up enemies ammo, and health after youv'e blasted them because they only drop ammo that fits there guns not your supplied american weapon. This game also sticks to the facts of the vietnam war, your not gonna win, just like the real war,but you do save a life and win many small battles.I won't spoil who it is.It's no real big plot twist. Also the facts displayed during load times are interesting. The graphics are good,a little blocky, but still nice, some of the explosions were really kool, nice fire effects, also during the cutscenes you can look around in first person while they are playing. Keep in mindI am using an "S" cable which inhances graphics on all games.I like it when you get to the city parts ,you can see the enemy better.Lets face it the jungle's a tough place to fight an enemy with so many hiding places. This game gave me a respect for the vietnam war,the soldiers and the effects it had on our country. It makes you feel like your in it.In conclusion this is a solid shooter game. With a no brainer type game style, mostly linear withtactical commands for your soldier.Just shoot, take cover, shoot, run, rinse, repeat. All of the commands are directed (at you) such as "defend perimiter",or "take that turret",or "take out RPG & Sniper's",or "provide cover fire for squadmate so he can take out bunker",or "take out that tank.etc.etc."

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST WAR GAME BAR NONE!!!
PLEASE DONT MAKE TO MUCH OUT OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I CANT BELIEVE THE DISS BY OXM (OFFICIAL XBOX MAGAZINE)REGARDING THIS TITLE. THE GAME PLAYS PRACTICALLY LIKE HALO, W/ THE EXCEPTION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO JUMP (NO BIG DEAL). THE GRAPHICS ARE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD. THE NARRATION AND PRESENTATION ARE WELL SCRIPTED. THIS GAME IS A TRUE REPRESENTATION OF THE CULTURE OF THAT TIME.IE..THE LANGUAGE/CURSING (WHICH YOU PROBABLY DONT WANT KIDS TO PLAY..BUT THATS WHAT WAR/KILLING/STRESS WILL DO TO YOU) ALSO, THE MUSIC REALLY ADDS A ELEMENT OF REALNESS TO THE GAME (MOST WAR TYPE GAMES I'VE PLAYED DO NOT EMBRACE THIS FACTOR). I DEFINATELY LIKE FACT THAT (VIVENDI) HAD THE COURAGE TO TELL THIS STORY FROM THE AFRICAN AMERICAN PERSPECTIVE, WHICH IS EVIDENT IN DEAN'S LETTERS TO AND FROM HIS FAMILY. MEN OF VALOR IS A GAME THAT WILL KEEP YOU BLASTING AWAY MUCH LONGER THAN HALO 2 IN TERMS OF LONGEVITY. ONE OF THE KNOCKS ON THIS GAME IS THE ENEMY (AI). YES, YOU SOMETIMES SLIP UNDER THE RADAR BUT NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS I WISH I COULD!! THESE CATS WILL CUT YOU DOWN IF YOU TRY THE BUMRUSH TACTICS.. GO AHEAD AND TAKE ME UP ON IT!?AFTER ALL IS SAID, I'M GIVING THIS GAME 5 STARS.HI! MY NAME IS D. TUCKER AND I APPROVE OF THIS GAME ;P

5-0 out of 5 stars Low score given by IGN but I rate it high
Game sets in '68 Nam.You start as a private and advance higher and higher through the ranks.Game play is very good, very challenging but it has it flaws as does every other game out there.I'll give you a for instance: During gameplay you and your squadmates are engaging the Vietcong and your allies will run right into the enemy and the enemy will find you first and shoot at you.But during later missions your squad will actually get in some great shots to aid you.Graphics are outstanding, voice-over is a little off.Very graphic about blood and body parts and yes very course language.Has a great soundtrack from the 60's.Be warned this game is very, very long.Another plus, it has co-op play so you and your buddy can play split screen or even on XBox Live. So, enjoy this game because, I love it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BASKETBALL GAME EVER!
This is the best basketball game I ever played. The graphics are sweet. I love the all-star weekend. My favorite thing is the slam-dunk contest and the 3-point shootout. Also with the gamepad it's even cooler.I love basketball and if you do too, you should buy NBA Live 2005!

4-0 out of 5 stars The best Live since 2000...
I have been playing Live in its various EA sports incarnations since the Sega Genesis days, when the hoops titles were called "Bulls vs. Lakers" and so on.I still believe that NBA Live 2000 is the greatest hoops game ever made, but curse modernity, I still buy the new versions (and Sega Sports ESPN titles, too) every year.I can say after having put in numerous hours with Live 2005 that it is the best since that watershed year of 2000.The graphics are generally well done, though EA still lags behind Sega in that department. The addition of the slam dunk contest is fun but a bit frustrating, and the tutorial is weak.On to the meat and potatoes: the Dynasty mode. The interface is a bit cluttered (I hate virtual PDA's in games; I'm already on a PC, don't simulate some chincy piece of plastic, just give me clear menus!), but generally works pretty well. All of the options are there, although the create-a-player is unusually weak in its graphical options. Why is it that games like "NBA Courtside 2002" (Gamecube) had a more complete create a player feature than a game 3 years later?Boggles the mind.

The gameplay, the core of the game, is solid. The freestyle controls are generally not very effective against the CPU (though, as always, you can adjust the sliders) and the idiotic pro-hop step is back (traveling, to purists like myself). The separate dunk and shoot buttons are a good idea, but take some getting used to.The players move well, independently, and there aren't too many silly animations. The problems are the same: rebounding is difficult and hard to gauge (no hoops game EVER has managed to solve that problem), there are too many blocks, and players often stop and jump to catch a pass, making fast breaks more difficult than necessary. The computer defense is generally very good, shadowing you everywhere, to the point that it can get frustrating.A 99-rated player shouldn't have too many problems with a sub-par defender, but you will in this game, because everyone plays like Bruce Bowen or Ron Artest.

This is a fun game, and the addition of "tasks" which are rewarded with points is a good idea (get a triple double, score 20 points, etc). These can be redeemed with extra coaching boosts, or in the EA Sports "My NBA Live" which is cool, and you can retire Jerseys, etc.I see this version of Live as returning a bit more to the simulation roots of basketball, and away from the cheesy arcade game that it had become.Let's hope it carries over into 2006!

1-0 out of 5 stars This game is horrable. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!
This game sucks. However, if you like cheating opponents it is the game for you. It is impossible to win. The shooting and passing is defective. Do yourself a favour and do not buy this game. You will most likely buy a game controller to go a long whith it and then it will be an even bigger waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
In my opinion, this is the best NBA Live game to come out.The graphics are amazing with every player looking exactly like real players (unlike last year's edition). It does take some time to get used to when you more up from one level to the next. However, that is with every game &, the more practice you have with it, the better you will be at it.Get this game!!! I can't wait for next year's edition.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this game!
This is the most sickening game ever. Ok, it has nice features like "All star weekend" added to entice costumers. But the most basic thing in a game - The Gameplay is awful. Cmon, what's with the passing in this game. How difficult is it to design a game with proper passing? if i press a combination of direction arrows, the ball should go to the nearest player in that direction. in this game it will go to every player but that one. It really gets on to your nerves. I played a whole season, every match, so that I will get used to the passing. But no, i conclude it is the game developers' mistake, not mine. Why don't EASPORTS just "fire" the programmers who developed the passing feature and try for a better game next year. I urge everyone to not to buy this game. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars for the price, not worth it
This game really isnt THAT different that nhl 2004 (which i absolutely loved by the way)...a few things changed like now the scores are more realistic, you can do the open ice control thing, etc...but overall, there isnt a HUGE change, which disappointed me. When you see the trailers on commercials or online the game looks amazing, but i just dont find that when i am playing it. For one, this game seems more to me like NHL HITZ because you cannot go into the neutral zone without getting your clocked cleaned, very unrealistic. I mean, in real nhl its not like you have tons of ice to maneuver around in while in the neutral zone, but i do know that you dont get crushed everytime you get the puck in real life. I am waiting for nhl 2006 to come out, and hopefully EA will get some of these reviews and improve on their game, and maybe get back into being the #1 video game hockey franchise again...But until then, i would go out and buy espn nhl 2k5 (which is by no means perfect, but DEFINITELY better than nhl 2005) for a meesly $20 and hold off until next year for a better version.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Work EA...
After the sad outings the last few years with this title, why would I or anyone go out to pick up this one?Well, I didn't.I recieved it for Christmas, and after letting it sit in the shrink wrap for almost a week, I reluctantly put it in and checked it out. And to my surprise, it has been much improved. The unrealistic scoring has been fixed, although sometimes a team will still put up big numbers on your goalie. But for the most part, it is much better than it's been in years. Thanks EA.This is a big improvment.Even the goalie actions have been tweaked. My only concern is for EA Sports.Have they lost all the hardcore hockey guys like me as a result of putting out horrible hockey games for the last3 - 5 years?I had even sworn that I would not buy this one again until I saw a big change. This game is alot of fun, and alot more realistic than it ever has been.So if you have sworn off EA Hockey like I had, go out and check this one out.You will quickly see there is a difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars NHL 2005 is very underrated.
Well, I finally got my hands on a copy of NHL 2005 for EA Sports. So, after a week of exploring all of it's new options, gameplay, and simulations, I am prepared to give my review and endorsement.

The first things that I noticed up front about this years version of the game is the updated realism. No doubt, the EA Sports company canvassed the hockey fan gamers' opinions and did their best to accommodate their requests.

The first new addition to the game is the upgrade to the arenas. The design team licensed 28 out of the 30 NHL arenas along with several European sites. The game's programmers did their best to capture the realism of each arena. For whatever copyrighted reason, the Fleet Center in Boston and the on the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY aren't named. Also, the efforts for realism is found in the 600 players' images scanned in the game. The players actually look like the players! Also, If that wasn't cutting edge realism, they updated the season and dynasty modes. As a GM, you get all the updates via a special e-mail screen and league news in a fax wire. The last thing they issued was the mini-game mode called "free 4 all". You can play as your favorite NHL all-star against 3 others in a time limit mode or quickest player to x number of goals. It's a silly little challenge especially when they use the "big head" option. It looks like a bunch of bobble heads playing hockey.

Of the new additions to the game this year that I like, I am glad they did something more with the International teams. You can now play a season in World Cup 2004. They did a great job using the World Cup logo and incorporated the on-ice design in the game. Secondly, the rosters are very well updated, but a few adjustments were needed to reflect the off-season free agent signings. Also updated were the team jerseys. While playing the game, you can't help but notice the detail in each player. I guess they struck a deal with Nike, the manufacturer of the international team jersey's. There is an unprecedented detail in the international team jerseys. They have the nice Columbus third jersey that is completely purged of that cartoonish yellow jacket mascot. Speaking of cartoonish, they have the Dallas Stars "Taurus constellation" third jersey. But if you cycle through the choice of Stars team jerseys, you can also select the Cleveland Barons and two versions of the Oakland Seals jerseys.

There is a few things in this game that I don't like, starting with the choice of the music. I was disappointed to hear a collection of punk-alternative songs instead of a harder edged modern rock sound. The second thing I didn't like was the choice of jerseys for the all-star game exhibition. I wasn't too keen on the choice of fashion design that the all-stars wore last season in Minnesota. Unless there are more jersey choices hidden to be unlocked later, the only choice jersey are the uninspired last years. Thirdly, though there aren't very many changes to the game's menu, you'll need some time to get used to the roster changes page. Don't expect the instructions booklet to help you either in that regard. The booklet only explains the gameplay. Lastly, the only one really big disappointment is the discontinuation of the create a character mode. In earlier versions of the game, I was glad I could update the rosters with the new first year rookies that weren't included. Also, I enjoyed creating my own identity into the game and joining the roster of my favorite teams. Now, I can't do that. I hope the 2006 version corrects that mistake.

With all that said, I guess I should tell you about some of the other new things that help make a gaming experience as real as possible. When playing the NHL teams in exhibition mode, the teams that have elaborate entrances like San Jose, Nashville, Colorado, or Dallas now animated skating on the ice through their canopies. That's exciting! Also, instead of a music video introduction to the game, NHL 2005 uses a analytical comparison for the two teams. The two broadcasters for the game weigh the strengths of the teams for hype.

I believe that a lot of people who are saying that the NHL 2K5 is better are wrong and I would disagree. EA Sports continues to be the leader in sports name brand as long as they continue to improve on their quality products.

1-0 out of 5 stars i wouldnt even rate this game 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i watched the trailer on the internet and it was good. icouldnt wait to get my hands on a copy. when i bought the game i was really excited to play it.i turned it on it seemed ok but then when i saw the main menue i was shocked they changed everything.when i went to go play a game it seemed like i was playing the baddest game ever!!!!!!!!!!.if i had to choose between this and espn wich is $20!!!!! i would choose espn.dont waste your money on this garbage. buy espn!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars NHL 2005 is not that bad
I enjoy the changes EA made to NHL series since the horrendous outing of 2003: like the GM role, bruise control, upgrades & finances, team chemistry & player morale, wrist shot, each team arena having its' own goal horn, open-ice, AI improvement, the injury slider, and the reduction of the color commentary, etc. I think the omission of the "create-a-player" gives this game more of a challenge, although I wish I could have it instead of the "create-a-team" option which is generic. I, like many others, agree that the EA jukebox sucks, goalies are too quick when they play the puck, and the goal horns don't sustain, and the crowd does not always jump up every time the home team scores a goal.
But overall, I'm having fun playing this game.

This game will grow on you if you just give it a chance. Understand: this is not NHL 2K5 -- don't expect that! NHL 2K series still needs improvement, it is not perfect. NHL 2005 is unique and addicting if you want to play the role of GM and take control of every aspect of the game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Are you serious?
Okay I've had this game for a few years now and still play it on occassion. It is that good of a game.In fact in my opinion its the one flight sim worth playing. But I was looking here on amazon and two seller's were selling Freespace 2 for 149.00! Yeah it's a good game but is it that good. do people really pay that much for this game? If they do, or you are reading this and are interesting in buying it I have a copy that I can part with for a price and it won't be 150 bucks (100 sounds good). Contactme if you are interested

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect
Freespace 2 has a lot going for it. It's a model space flight simulation. You spend almost all your time flying and fighting with great controls, there's good AI both for enemies and your wing, graphics and sound are very good also. Additionally there's good multi-tiered story although part of it remains unresolved at the end. Some of the briefings that advance the story, introduce new weapons and review mission objectives can drag a little too long.

But as I finish the single player campaign what sticks in my mind isn't the good above but the disappointments. Most of the game takes place in a large nebula. Multi-colored 'gas' and lens flare effects fill the screen, the result feeling like playing with a large flashlight in your eyes. It doesn't improve the gameplay it just irritating. Most missions are the straight 'kill everything' type. Other missions seem designed to frustrate you. For example one mission requires you to fly a series of waypoints that are basically in a straight line. The catch is you can't see the next way point from your current one so if you waver off course you become hopelessly lost and have to start over. Finally a handful of missions are usually difficult, pitting you solo against a large number of enemies or timed with unclear objectives.

Apart from a badly-scratched install disc I had no trouble running the game in Windows 98. Nothing I tried would get the game to install in Windows 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible
I just got a hankering to re-install this game. Freelancer got a little stale for me and Tachyon didn't have enough to keep me playing after I beat it. So after more than two years of not playing this game, I am finding it to be incredible. The graphics are crisp, sound is incredible, controls incredibly responsive, gameplay complex enough for me, and storyline is pretty darn deep (especially for a game of this type). Plus... the game can pretty much go on forever with the FRED2 editor and there are VAST numbers of community created mods, featuring both sorte missions and full length campaigns.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Game
It is a great game I would recommend it to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Space Sim Ever
While there arn't all that many space sim games worth playing anymore, or any new ones being made(that I know of), This is the best one that exists, period.Although I've played almost all the others worth playing (except freelancer) this one remains the best.Although now that its garphics are dated and it doesn't really offer anything new to to the genre, it more importantly doesn't add anything bad either.
The missions are well thought out and more diverse than other games. The ship selection is awesome, more than 20 ships, about 40 distictly different weapons, and great weapon effects. The ships are modeled very nicely, even by todays standards. The story is fast paced and by itself gives you reason to want to keep playing clear through the night (no joke). The capital ships are HUGE, the largest one being about 15,000 times the size of your fighter! The action is intense and NEVER gets boring or repeditive, the voice acting is great, the mission designer isrelatively simple, the cutscenes are beautiful, and the only problem with this game is that there's no expansion pack for it with more missions to play (the campaing gets boring after the 3rd or 4th tome through). In my opinion the game's worth whaterver you have to pay for it, ... for a 3 year old game would be worth it, don't hessitate to get it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST ALL AROUND GAME
EXCEPTIONAL GRAPHICS, TRIVIA CHALLENGES, TRAINING CAMP, AND EVEN 4 OLD VERSIONS OF MADDEN INCLUDED FOR OLD TIMES SAKE.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice But...Game is Has Times Where itLags...
Well being the football fanatic that I am I couldn't wait for this title to come out. I mean anyone that likes football games can not wait for the madden series to come out each year. I've been playing Madden since Madden '93 and when I saw the clips and the footage of the extra material for the game and the retro games it brought back a lot of memories. Madden introduces a storyline mode where you have players who although they may be getting paid they may not want to be on your team because of a lack of prestige, winning, or fan support among other things. I like that you have a weekly gameplan for this game and it gives you ways to exploit weaknesses of the other team there are a lot of other great additions to the game. The game adds a lot including formation shifts which I like a lot. Now for the reason it only gets 3 stars...

*Graphically I think the game has made strides and while graphics mean a lot, I would rather have better gameplay

*Anybody seen the running in this game? Why does the runner look like he's about to tip over? Its like the runner is going to fall over (sometimes the people run while they are leanin at a 30 degree angle to either side)

*The passing took a step back in this game. I only play the game in All-Madden Mode but the passing should not be this bad. I've tried to lead the receiver streaking down the field or someone going across the middle and the pass will be completely off! While every quarterback isn't a Favre or a Manning, every quarterback shouldn't look like Ty Detmer or Heath Shuler passing the ball.

*After all the step back and throw and slinging the ball around it is apparent that EA and maybe even Mr. Madden himself made it a point not to let certain things happen so easily and make this version a more defensive oriented game. There is nothing wrong with that to an extent. I like the individual audibles on defense as well as being able to pinch in the line or make them rush in a certain direction, the linebackers being able to completely blitz or drop back as well as the addition of the quarterback spy audible and now being able to double team on the fly using the safety to double the teams wide receiver who is giving you problems. However too much emphasis has been placed on defense. I love the options and new features but if you play the game for yourself you will see no name players and safeties making plays on the ball when you have a good quarterback / receiver tandem or just a good pass I don't think some 4th cornerback should become an all pro in one play

*Lack of gameplay innovation or features. I am a true madden fanatic and after Madden 2004 there are a lot of expections I would like to see more things to the running game. How about having advantages for having a power back? Everyone wants to see that speed back slam through the hole and make a big play but what about a power move to bull people over? How about having certain moves or different levels of jukes or even a stutter step for players that are extremely agile like Vick or Dante Hall? Bring back the Defensive Playmaker as soon as the ball as snapped that would really help in stopping the run and could help in some passing situations. But I would really like to see if there is a way to get the lateral in the game. I know you only have so many buttons but I'm sure there is a button or button combination that would allow you to do this. This really makes me a little frustrated, especially when there is a situation where you have to relive the Music City Miracle. You feel kind of dumb not being able to relive the moment and throw the lateral.

No Tuck Rule. If the quarterback fumbles the ball don't waste your timeout. For some reason and I guess it is hard to program that but it is never reversed or considered a forward pass before a fumble.

*Last gripe is about the DB/WR play. Its obvious to NFL experts and analysts and fantasy players and fans alike all know that this will be a big year for wide receivers due to the enforcing of the 5 yard "chuck" rule. It would be nice to actually be able to see that change available in the game, but oh well maybe next year.

But hey it i a good game overall and I will be faithful to the madden franchise as long as they keep making games and improving games

2-0 out of 5 stars Madden is back, and not so much better
Well, I've waited, bought and played Madden 2005 collector's edition.Unfortunately, I'm not too impressed with it's output this season.

Graphically, the game looks pretty good. The players are relatively detailed, but the fields aren't as sharp as I'm accustomed to.I tend to love ESPN's graphics a lot more, but in reality, I like good playability over everything else.

The offense isn't supposed to be too overpowering this season, though I'm putting up almost 38 points a game with a lackluster Ravens offense.Pass deep, lead the reciever, and it's a TD.The running game gets stuffed a lot easier this year, as the defenses are pretty nasty on the line, it's just unfortunate that the secondaries are garbage.

The defense has been tuned up nicely, and hitting a running back three yards behind scrimmage is a blast. The hits are pretty serious.Again, the deep passing game is still a joke, as most d's get burned.

I haven't gone online yet, as I'm just not impressed with the game overall, so I really haven't bothered too much with it.I'm sure the online capabilities are just as good as always, but I cannot be sure.

The presentation of the games is pretty weak.It has no television feel, and it's the same Michaels/Madden dribble from the last three or four years, so if you've heard maddenisms in the past, be sure to have them repeated over and over and over again. The replays throughout the game happen during the play selection, which means you can watch them, but your play clock ticks away.If you choose a play, the replay ends.Like I said, no television feel.

Overall, Im pretty un-impressed with the gameplay, and will definitely be trying ESPN's foray into the 2005 season, as I've always been very impressed with their graphics, sound and playability.

If you're a diehard Madden owner, this game will probably satisfy you.Unfortunately, the franchise has not gotten better over the past few years, and this attempt shows it.

5-0 out of 5 stars read this
this game rules but if u have an old playstation the playstation may not read the disc because its such a hitech disc so if u have an old ps2 i recommend the regular version besides that the game is pretty good

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Madden Title!
This game is just plain out awesome. The collecters edition comes with some nice features like three old school madden games and videos and a trivia game. For the extra $10.00 it's worth it.I also wrote a review from another good football game called ESPN 2K5.The question everyone asks is which one's better.Well I own both so I can help you out.Madden has a very nice graphic engine in which my opinion is the best for any football game up to date. The gameplay is a little weird at first but there's some many options it's very rewarding when you figure it out. There's also a Tony Bruno radio show every week for your franchise mode but it sucks compared to ESPN's Sportscenter. You also recieve emails which is stupid but my favorite thing would be the newspaper clippings where you can read up about other teams and your team. The clippings are actually from real life newspapers so it's pretty cool. All the mini games are the same which is lame. The offense pretty much controls the same.In other words it's a small transition from madden 2004 to 2005.But 2005 is definitly better. It depends on your taste. If you don't like spending 50 to 60 bucks on a game get ESPN for 20 otherwise if you do have the money and can afford madden I suggest you get it, especially if your a die hard madden fan like me.you won't be dissapointed. At first I wasn't planning on getting this but I saw the collectors eddition and fell in love with it.The collectors eddition is only for a short amount of time so I suggest you get it now if you want it otherwise your going to be regreating it.If you buy ESPN instead still check out this title. It's at least worth a rental. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars RTS Animal Classic, re-released!
The game is so good (the rest of us already knew this), now Atari is distributing it...Game type: Inexpendive, resouce gathering, networkable, RTS in very well rendered 3-D person (not fixed isometric). Honestly this is really geared for pre-hormonal, but semi-violent teens. If your kids liked Pokemon, they will love this because after extracting the DNA from your travels you can not only combine the body parts of two animals, you can make an army of them and let them loose on your best friend. I think creatures like their pictures taken, as you can zoom in and around models in true 3-D space, and clicking on the camera makes them wiggle more. Combinations are not good/bad, but cost more/less which means the most powerfull player gets grumpy as they can't efford to build until much later in the game, making them vulnerable for attack by any five year old that just likes the way his creatures look. This makes game play more chaotic than any I've seen. Some may find you referring to your blackwidow-armadillo as cute before the day is over.

Cons:
- Proprietary on-line game network (on-line gaming not supported by GameSpy, EA Games, or even MicroSoft Game network).
- AI for the insect invasion mod was never finshed. You can't play against one person and two PC players.
- Not too much social redeming vaue, but if you were looking for that in a video game I would recommend you restart your search. Then again, there's no nudity or sex.
- Insect invasion over plays the value of chitin armor, making them way too strong.
- Limited access to the SDK (Software Development Kit) for developers and people with entirely too much time on their hands to make additional creatures from scratch. I'll bet like any maunufacturing company, they will kill the product line soon, and don't want you making new content w/out paying for it.

Pro:
- Free additional animal skins avaialble for download.
- Free insect skins available for download. (If you've ever wanted to let your son bring bugs in the house, this is the way to do it.)
- Creatures can be made to scale!! Most games/toys will only attempt to do this.

Hints:
1) Get a better video card.
2) Buy more memory or a better processor (Microsoft is even a memory hog with games production too).
3) Yes, if cost is a factor, you can always just turn off the anti-virus and use MS-CONFIG to end all extra tasks.
4) Not everything Relic touches turns to gold (who did they fire after Lords of the Realm III?)
5) Big kids should give a different rating to this than Warhammer 40,000. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ... Hey, what are those 3 little green dots? AGHph!!!
That title was derived from some unfortunate guard in a dark room inside a few 100k tvs all over the world (Except T'blisi, Georga...), who made the mistake of standing in front of Sam Fisher, Splinter cell, star of the best game in it's field since... What, Deus Ex, maybe. You sneak around in a dark (Because you shot the lights out) corridor, sneak into a shadowy (Bacause the guard's knocked out and you flipped the light switch) room, to the quiet (Because all the guards were taken out by your silenced handgun) roof, then grappel down untill you're just over the courtyard(because you haven't disabled the security grid yet and your boss says you can't trigger an alarm while the mission remains covert.) And swing into the room. All in a few minutes intensly satisfying work.<br /> <br /> And why haven't you already bought this one, again? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars simply amazing
This game has some points that makes it superior to other PC first-person shooters.
The most amazing thing about the game is perhaps music surrounding. It is superb! The themes greatly
contribute to the atmosphere of the game.
The second point is a good storyline. Sometimes you get missions which could exist in reality. That's amazing, because
it makes you feel as if strange personages you read about in Nazi's memoirs came to life, and you may participate in real events!
The third amazing feature is graphics. The game is aesthetically beautiful, full of colourful landscapes and ancient castles.

5-0 out of 5 stars a fun, classic First Person Shooter
I received this game as a gift, knowning that it was an older game (one of the classic FPS).It met my expectations and was fun to play.I didn't notice any bugs; the game came with the latest patch. The graphics were good.It does have monsters and stuff, but not too unrealistic. It did make me jump a couple of times, and that's always fun.And if you wait long enough, you came but fun games like this at a reduced price!

5-0 out of 5 stars DONT listen to the review right below mine
This is a briliant game, and its not just online multiplayer. the online part is an add on. There is a very big single player game called.....return to castle wolfenstein. lol. the online game is enemy territory. oh yeah, and i got this game at target for 5 bucks! you cant beat that. you just cant.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellinent first person shotter!
This is a very good first person shooter with a good but not to thought out but good storyline. Every level fits in with it very good and your fighting because of the story line in a way. For the person who installed it and said its only multiplayer, not true. Its multiplayer AND singal player one of the disks is multiplayer and the other is singal player. The graphics are good but really not the best kinda wierd at parts (like one time a zombie walked threw a soldier and then the zombie blew up. Whats that?) The controls are hard to get used to be when you do its o.k. The games is really difficult at parts especially if you just kick down a door throw a gernade in and starts shootin (sometimes thats the funniest though ;)) Theres a huge selection of weapons includeding potato bashers (a type of gernade), dynamite (which is really neat i threw it on the floor below me and the floor i was on blew up!) a luger (pistol), tommy gun, flamthrower, and lots lots more. The enemys are neat included german soldiers zombies (kinda freak me out since they eat people...) and x mutants (they are creepy too). The zombies come in place when you come in the catacombes. They will surprise you by just bursting out of walls and floors which catchs you off guard especially when they come from behind. You can sometimes know theyre comeing when you hear a german soldier shoot, scream, then here flesh being eaten (its kinda gross if your up close and see it) The x mutants are german mutations by the ss division (which IS a real division of the (...) army and DID do odd eqperiments on people but never made mutants) Which are locked in deep catacombs and come out and well are nearly impossible to beat. All in all i give it a 8/10. Its pretty good but perhaps to difficult at parts and not the best graphics.

1-0 out of 5 stars If YOU want to play as FPS, don't waste your money...
I bought this game because I really liked Return To Castle Wolfenstein, but didn't realize that the entire game is for online multiplayer crap... If you're looking for single player action, this sure as hell isn't it! Save your money... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best fishing available in your living room
This is an excellent game. You have to find good fishing spots, and arrange your tackle. There is tons of equipment, boats, etc to choose from. This is the best fishing simulation I have ever played on a console. The game is easier if you already have a good amount of fishing knowledge, but the game will teach you if you're patient. This is a great game to play online with friends while chatting. It's fun just to drive your boat up to a competitor and watch them reel in the big one.I almost feel like I'm outside fishing when I play this game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buggy, buggy, and buggy!
The concept here is great. This isn't like other fishing games which are shot from the lures 'point of view'.Instead, it is just what you might see if you went fishing yourself. There are lots of lures (soft and hard) to choose from and the action is realistic. Unfortunately, Pro Fishing Challenge (PFC) is horribly buggy.

I purchased the Naki fishing reel for the Xbox along with this game (PFC claims the *only* fishing reel controller for the Xbox works with its software) but it does not work as advertised! The A button frequently stops working after a fish is caught (you are forced to pull the controller out and push it back in).Occaisionally, the reel will not work at all. This may seem minor but it is a pain when you can't reel while a fish is biting. In fact, it is so irritating that I'm returning both the game *and* the controller.By the way, the default Xbox controller controls are unintuitive and cumbersome; what fun are fishing games without the 'reel' controller?

As with all Xbox games & accessories I have encountered, support is non-existant (calling the xbox.com numbers is a *joke* and nakiusa.com has been down for days).Your only real option is whatever grace period is allowed by the retailer. This coupled with the bugs is why I cannot recommend this game.

REALISM: 5 stars
BUGS: 0 stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Fishing Game
This is the best fishing game you can buy for the xbox. It's a true simulation of fishing, and it does take some fishing knowledge, that the game will teach you. This is a vey fun game to play online and offline.I highly recommend it, even if you've never fished before

5-0 out of 5 stars Online tournaments... FANTASTIC
Online tournaments, fantastic

I couldn't believe what a great game this is. A fisherman for over 30 years I didn't expect much but this game is truly is a fishing simulator. The best part about it is online options and lobby you can create any kind of fishing tournament restricting the line to 2 pound test, pan fish only, all the way to any combination you can think of . You can even restrict motors to four hp or any boat they own.

Nightly tournaments are held at 5:30 p.m. Pacific 8:30 p.m. Eastern to check the complete fishing tournament schedule and calendar go to XBLgames.com

This game is a must-have for anyone even remotely interested in fishing but it is an excellent videogame for those who don't fish. Being a simulator it will also help you learn how to fish.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a game for American Audiences
Having purchased and subscribed to Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle I can say it was probably the most disappointing game of the year. Developed originally in Korea, where the game is actually further advanced than in the form it was released here in the USA, you find yourself in a world that struggles to translate itself to American (Or English Speaking) Audiences. Not only are the errors a distraction, but at times very humorous. Also, you find a huge communication gap between you and the rest of the community the Majority of players are from Korea. While you will run into the ocassional English Speaking player, it's a rarity.

Also, this game is *NOT* for kids. I would say that it should not be purchased for anyone under 17. If you would not let your teenages go to the theater to see women in highly sexualized bondage outfits with heaving, often exposed bosoms (Dark Elves) or small framed, petite schoolgirl like characters in short-short mini skirts with panties exposed (Light Elves) then you should not purchase this for younger members of your family. Some of the overt content is gratuitous and highly inappropriate expecially regarding how their female characters are presented. While this is the Norm for Asian Audiences, the literal birthplace of Anime and it's pornographic sub cultures, it can really seem displaced.

The gameplay itself is far from spectacular. Having played many online games, I can safely say, never has one been so unreasonabley difficult to broach. The level grind is simply unnecessary. It is not really fun, it becomes like a job, a chore, and because any advancement you do make can be robbed of you (As you are penalized for every death by having hours of experience taken from your character) in an instant, you quickly become discouraged, and even frustrated.

The only part of this title that reflect truth is "The Chaotic Chronicle." Thats just what this game is. Chaos. It is kill or be killed - by other players. No matter if you've just started an hour ago and are level 3, a level 40 player can run by and kill ou as you toil away to advance, thus penalizing you for the death you just experienced. Some people will see the animation around you that plays when you advance and level, then systematically kill you to send you back to your previous level. There is no controlled atmosphere here. The conduct of the community is appaling and often very graphic.

Do yourself a favor, purchase a quality game like World Of Warcraft or even Dark Age Of Camelot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be ready to commit
This game is very hard, especially when you are starting your first character. It helps to have or make a friend who is willing to help get you started. You have to commit a lot of time leveling and learning the game. The design of each character class encourages working together in parties, or clans so that each addition will complement the group.IE forming a party with damage dealers whose purpose is obvious, tanks to attract the brunt of enemy attack, healers to keep the group alive and buff everyone up, and dwarves to scavenge the monsters and craft items.Once you hit level 40 and go through your 2nd class change, PVP is a blast. You can safely go the the Arenas and fight without penalty, and practice PVP, or you can take a crack at someone who has it coming. When in a clan, you have to become committed as a group in order to level the clan by completing special quests.Clans can form aliances, or go to war against eachother so that two clans formally at war can kill eachother anytime anywhere without the penalty of bad kharma. The castle sieges are pretty awesome too.Yes, leveling can get a little repetative, though I find a few beers while your hacking the grind makes it a little more tolerable. That's the part that seperates the tourists from the hardcore, and the price you will pay to become powerful and respected.

1-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE!
I bought this game the other night to sort of broaded my horizons and see what else was out there. The game was 20 bucks at the store that I bought it at, so I figure....it can't be THAT bad right? I mean the game is gorgeous. And it is. The artists did a great job at what they do, but the desigers should all be fired, because this game is just awful.

First of all (and this set me off, right away), this game offers ZERO key customization! I got news for your developers out there...point and clicking for an eternity is NOT FUN. If you had allowed me to map my movement to W,A,S, and D like, oh I dunno, *every other game on the planet*, I might have attempted to sit through this crap. Not only can you not remap the keys, but there is no option to invert the mouse. So anyone who is used to that option will have to just get used to completely switching gears with this one. And yes....one might say "well, key binds and control options seem kind of petty to drop a game for right"? Well, not in my opinion, but I'll give you that for a couple seconds.....

How's this, then? I walk out into the open and within 5 seconds someone walks up to me and kills me. Yup, this is a free-for-all PvP game, and no where does it say on the package that they do not offer different server rulesets. Okay that sucks. I play World of Warcraft as well, and I love that game. They give you the option of a PvE server (person versus environment) or a PvP server (player vs player). If you dont want people attacking you, you can pick the PvE. Here's the catch, though....I *LOVE* PvP, I just think WoW's PvP is better. You are still safe until around lvl 20, when you have to start going into "contested territories" that are faction vs faction pvp. This is perfect, because you still can get killed by someone way higher than you, but after 20 levels you at least know the game.

I gotta tell ya, it REALLY sucked not having any clue what to do with this game and already someone was killing me. So not fun.

If you want a fantasy MMO, I highly just recommend World of Warcraft. Its just a better game, flatout. Anyone who defends this piece of garbage either only cares about the big-breasted dark elf sluts or is obviously an employee of NCSOFT. Because this game is literally the worst MMO I have ever played. I could have taken my 20 bucks and thrown it down the toilet and I would have felt like I spent it better.....

P.S. I take that back. It was worth the 20bucks to see the absolutely ridiculous run animation that the dark elf female uses. Her boobs, apparently, weigh a ton each, because when she runs she bends over as if the gravity from her breats is driving her forth as she sticks her arms out like an airplane. Its just absolutely silly....whoever thought that looks cool should also be fired.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well....
For the more intelligent and mature players out there. What many term the grind or hack/slash does not have to be that way.It can be if that is what you enjoy but there are many levels and strategies to the gameplay.Just takes a little thought and ingenuity.

And to the people who say this is clan/group play only, not true.I know people in the game but rarely play with them.I play solo 98% of the time and love it.

:>

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
Great game. Many great things in it. I like the more realistic graphics than in WoW. politics are intense in this game, so it takes some guts to play with it, and join the many clans and alliances in the game. The game has it's own story line and mythology, that goes well with the game. Lvling is slow after 35, but it's awesome to participate in the castle sieges and see the many hundreds of people fighting it out on the battle fields for a huge castle and control of the local economy. Yeah sure they have farmers, but what mmorpg doesn't? it's really a lot of fun, and the PK (player kill) is quite nasty because it becomes a matter of political involvement but it's extremely realistic, much more so than WoW ever could be. WoW is too much of a fantasy that goes great with the Warcraft series that i love, but Lineage2 sets it's own standard. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best strategy games ever!
Unlike other people, my so called "dreaded" blue disk has never failed. And there are more than one map; try, five or six maps, once you've unlokced them all. The pargment map is the best, and looks the most real. You can speed the game or keep a close watch at the process of all the battles. Although the AI are programmed to do the same thing, you can change the outcomes by mixing the generals and levels of each one. The Game of Risk also offers many uniforms, but has no MExican General or uniform, which has been somewhat dissappointing to me, personally. Overall, this version of the famous game of Risk is one of the best to reach the stores.

1-0 out of 5 stars Might as well play against monkeys
I love risk.I had the EGA pc game years ago and enjoyed it, but the computer players rarely did anything remotely appearing like a strategy and were just plain stupid.Enter Risk: Global Domination.I figure it has been at least 15 years since I played the old EGA Risk.Certainly, the AI has got to be better now and the computer opponents would put up a good fight.I mean computers are beating chess masters now.How friggin' hard would it be to make a decent AI opponent in Risk?Well, apparently it is just too hard. The computer opponents are, in a word, LAME!.They appear to attack at random. They never attempt to protect territories/continents they've taken. They employ absolutely no strategy at all other than an apparent desire to lose every game. The makers of this game spent too much time on graphics, sounds, pretty dice, and fancy boards. They should have spent more time on developing an engine that would make it a challenge to play.I'd be happy with the graphics I got with my first computer (a Tandy 1000 in 1985) if that's what it would take to not have to play a bunch of monkeys.

3-0 out of 5 stars Playing against the computer doesn't replace playing humans
The game is quite fun but playing against the computer can get very boring. The computer is programmed to play a certain way which makes it very predictable. For example, if you take control of the continent, one or more of the other five opponents controlled by the computer will automatically attack you to stop your hold. Also, the computer is programmed so that it often makes very stupid moves. For instance, if an opponent gets weak, then a computerized opponent rarely attempts to take him over. Hence, the key to winning the game is by keeping your eye out for weak opponents and taking them over. Occupying a continent will usually hurt your more than help you.

To conclude, the game is fun at first but as you learn how the computerized game system plays, it becomes boring and predictable. Playing against other people is much more fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars dead on, mr. schumacher
Couldn't agree more with the first reviews. It's confounding how a system so superior to its predecessor could produce a game so inferior to its own predecessor.Yes, there's only one map, as opposed to five on the PS1 version.Yes, the gameplay is slower and clunkier. Yes, the game disc is blue and funky, and I don't doubt unplayable in many cases (unfortunately, mine only crashed 10% of the time). But most of all, who the **** needs to hear fifth-rate American voice actors adopt insulting, stereotypical accents to convey the military terrors of Napeoleon and Shaka Zulu? How about a decent card system instead?I LOVE Risk; it's one of the greatest board games ever.I LOVED the earlier Macintosh version. The PS1 Risk (by Hasbro) is still one of my favorites for that system. Therefore, my dissapointment with this game can hardly be expressed in PG-13 language.I sold this clunker about three weeks after purchase. Ouch.Stick with the PSOne version, if you can find it-my personal search for it in the retail world lasted about 2 years.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't "Risk" buying it!
I really can't review this game properly, since I COULDN'T GET IT TO PLAY! Risk is one of the dreaded "Blue discs" that are almost impossible to get to play.

A blue disc has a blue backing on the underside (Where most games are silver like a mirror). I am sure that this is done for some reason... but I really don't know what it could be. Whatever, the reason... do NOT BUY blue disc games.... I have owned two and neither have played on my Playstation (which is only a couple of years old).

So while other reviewers tell you about the gane, listen to my advice first, "This game may not even play on your PLaystation". Definitely rent the game before wasting the $$$ to see if the game will even work on your Playstation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Football Game... EVER
NFL2K5 is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest football game ever made as of the year it was released (2004).It's absolute shame that the NFL decided to go with EA, for all purposes killing the NFL2K series.

The only downside that this game has is special teams returns are a little too hard, but aside from that I have no complaints about this game and for $20 I don't know if I have ever heard of a better deal in video game history. If you like football and the NFL it is IMPOSSIBLE to be disappointed with NFL2K5!!!

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch the NBA/MLB or College Football
Boycott the NFL and watch the NBA and Baseball. The NFL sucks because all the announcers are stupid besides Madden. The coaches and Commentators are a bunch of washed up fools. They think when they knock some guy over in practice it is cool. These clowns should take a swing at a NBA player. The Commisioner is a over rated A** Clown. The games are extremely boring and non memorable besides your team. The players are mostly morons and the draft is Flawed. How does some wanker like Alex Smith get picked 23 places ahead of Aaron Rodgers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yeah! & Boo!
What a great game. Many flaws make the game bad somewhat, but everything is basically amazing. The graphics are unbelieveable, unlike Madden. The gameplay is very hard, even if it is set at the custom rookie field play. I recommend this game for ages 13+, because the settings, gameplay, and franchise modes are super confusing. The franchise mode stinks because a team you created cannot be picked or managed. Everything is realistic, unlike Madden, and is exciting to just watch. You can customize your own stadium music (the tracks are horrible), go in "The CRIB" to battle against "celebraty" coaches who coach all-star teams like the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. Anyway, when you create a team, you cannot modify uniforms, pick or build a stadium in the location you want, and you don't have a very big selection of team symbols. The half-time show is relistic but horrible. Make good of this game, because you'll never see it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Football Game!
I think this game is good because you can do a lot of things. You can also pick an option that makes you play as if you were inside the person's helmet. There are also very cool things in the game like making the player's head giant and making their bodies tiny and you can make your field goal kicker kick the football over ninety yards.

4-0 out of 5 stars More fun than HALO 2 ( yeah I said it.....)
This was the most fun game I've played in a while. The best part of this game is the ridiculous amount of weapons and gadgets. There are so many that you have to remind yourself to use them all. I kept falling in love with one gun and forgetting about the other ones. They're all good but some are more versatile. This game has the best "gun sounds" that I've ever heard. When you shoot a shotgun it sounds like a real gun and when the shell casing hits the floor it sounds like a real buckshot casing hitting the floor. Every gun shoots and sounds different. I love that attention to detail. I know people will get pissed but I had more fun playing this than HALO 2. I hardly ever died and the enemies weren't invincible FLOOD-creatures that get back up after you already shot the crap out of them. There were a few drawbacks to the game, though. There aren't any pre-set levels, so you'll have to make multiple save points if you want to go back to a funpart of the game. There aren't many vehicles(2) and they sucked to drive. You might as well walk. Also, the graphics don't break any new ground, but they don't detract from overall gameplay. This game could have been 5 stars with a few fixes to it. BOTTOM LINE: If you are a fan of FPS-type games, then you have to play this one. There's not much replay value b/c you can't just jump back to a favorite level (like in HALO 1,2) but I definitely recommend renting this A.S.A.P.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun with Gadgets
Will you like Project Snowblind? The answer to the question will be determined by how you decide to use the huge collection of weapons, gadgets and sci-fi powers the first-person shooter gives you.

Here is a typical scenario..

Your current objective is on the other side of a vast courtyard. You find a good sniping spot and see that the courtyard is packed with enemy soldiers, and an eight-foot heavily armed security bot.

You shoot the giant robot with an icepick; a weapon that allows you to take control if it.Suddenly you see through the robot's eyes and have full control over its movement, machine guns and missile launcher.

You make the robot stomp through the courtyard, sending troops flying into the air with its missiles and mowing them down with machine guns. Before the enemy can react and blow up their own bot you've taken out half of their forces.

What to do about the rest? You remember you have a collection of spiderbots-grenades that hit the ground then unfold into deadly mechanical spiders the size of poodles.

You throw four spiderbots into the center of the courtyard.Your little friends start running around and zapping enemy troops with their lightning bolts.

To help things along you use the alternate mode of your sniper rifle. The bullets don't kill their victims, they make them think they're on your side.

You watch with amusement as enemies try to run from the spiderbots while being shot by their own comrades. When the fun dies down the courtyard is clear.

There is a narrow alley between the courtyard and the next area.Smells like an ambush. How can you check it out?

You have one spiderbot and one icepick left. The icepick can take control of giant bots. Will it work on the little guys? You try it.It works! You send the spiderbot skittering down the alley and see through its eyes that the next area is empty.Cool.

You saunter into the open, and a hidden guard sounds the alarm.A gate swings open and a horde of troops comes pouring in.

Time to use one of your biomod powers. You could turn invisible and run past them.Turn on your shield and fight it out without taking damage.Or use your reflex boost; a power that puts everything but you in slow motion.

You whip out your shotgun and turn on reflex boost. You dodge soldiers and bullets, and use the shotgun to send troops sailing through the air.

When your energy supply runs out, so does your reflex boost, so you sprint to cover to plan your next move.

That's just one way to handle the situation. You could use your main weapon-a combination machine gun and grenade launcher-to run and gun through this area and 90% of the game.Or you could sneak around and use the ever-present vents and rooftops to bypass combat altogether.

If you choose either run and gun or stealth as your primary tactic, you can get through the entire game in about four hours. It will be a short trip and not all that fun.

If you decide to experiment with all the gizmos the game gives you, you will enjoy the ride. But there's a catch.

The scenario I described assumes that you've saved up enough spiderbots, icepicks and bio energy to carry it off. You'll often find you've depleted vital supplies too early in a level, or even in a previous level.

To get the full enjoyment of Project Snowblind you will have to play sections more than once.On most levels this isn't too much of a problem. There are reasonably generous save points, and the levels are sometimes quite short.

If you don't mind repeating sections to experiment with everything the game gives you I think you'll have a good time with Project Snowblind.

For some strange reason the developers want to speed you through many sections of the game.Your character is named Nathan Frost. If you take your time in an area you'll hear messages from your commanders such as, "Frost, will you hurry up!"Or, "Frost, we can't hold out much longer."

Most missions aren't really timed, in spite of the verbal warnings. It does feel like you sat down to a magnificent seven-course meal only to have the waiter stop by every three minutes to remind you that others are waiting for the table

It doesn't change the gameplay but it is odd.

More annoying are some level design flaws. Some areas are reused, with slight changes in enemy placement. The worst example is a mission that has you going through the same room four times in a row while trying to make you feel you're making progress through the base.

Later levels place you in confined spaces such as sewers or stairwells that negate all of the cool gadgets and powers you've accumulated.

If you play this game to experiment with the toys it gives you it rates a 4 of 5.As a run and gun game it's in the middle of the crowded pack of first-person shooters.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, fast-paced Xbox shooter
"Project Snowblind" began life as a title that would exist in the same universe of the "Deus Ex" games (in fact, the early title was "Deus Ex: Clan Wars") but evolved into its own game outside the Deus Ex universe, although if you've played the "Deus Ex" series, there will be much to remind you of Ion Storm's superb cyber-punk thriller.

The player takes on the role of Lt. Nathan Frost, a soldier serving as part of an international peacekeeping force in late 21-century Hong Kong.Like JC Denton of "Deus Ex," Frost is a cyber-soldier, outfitted with "bio augmentations" that grant him abilities such as super-reflexes, night vision, and cloaking to make him temporarily invisible.

The plot is pretty standard FPS fare, as Frost and his team have to hunt out a super weapon before it destroys the world.

The single-player missions involve a lot of running and gunning, but the game design allows the player (somewhat) to tackle obstacles in different ways, whether you want to use your cloak to sneak onto an enemy outpost or run in guns blazing. There are many weapons to use and even some vehicles to drive.Expect about ten hours of play.Multiplayer over Xbox Live or system link again is pretty standard FPS, such as capture the flag and deathmatch.

While not the most graphically impressive Xbox title, the game world is nicely rendered. The textures aren't the sharpest, but the game employs some good lighting and particle effects.Music and sound effects are pretty good and sound great in 5.1 Dolby Digital. The voice acting is also good, for the most part.

"Project Snowblind" isn't the best Xbox shooter, but it is a very entertaining, fast-paced ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this game!
This game definetely ranks as one of my top twenty videogames of all time. The graphics are crisp/smooth, the gameplay is outstanding, the audio is amazing, and the only feature is better then ever!

Graphics: Like i said, the graphics in Project Snowblind are really good. The animation is crisp and clear, the guns/player models look awesome and the cutscenes are great/entertaining in terms of graphics as well. The graphics are, of course not as good as some Xbox games such as Halo 2, and DOA, but they are definetely good enough to keep you satisfied!

Gameplay: Great! The controls are fairly easy to master, unless you play halo 2 24/7, considering that you can do the same things as you can in Halo 2, except for the fact that some of the buttons are switched in terms of what button to push in order to perform that move. For example, in Halo 2, A is jump, in Project Snowblind, Y is jump. There are also many misions in halo 2 which is another great aspect. The replay value is good enough as well! All in all, the gameplay feature is amazing in this game!

Audio: The audio is really good also as well as everything else in this outstanding game. The voices are really awesome in terms of how it sounds and when you are in intense futuristic war scenes, it seems like you are actually in the war which makes this game super fun.

Online: Ahhh, the online. Probobly one of the best online games that i own currently. You can join clans, just like you can in Halo 2 and whats best is that it never lags! I have owned this game for a month now and i have never lagged which is really surprising, considering the fact that super famous games like Halo 2 lag every once in a while. There are different gamplay types that you can also choose from such as CTF, (capture the flag) Deathmatch, and Team Death Match. Plus many more...

In conclusion, Project Snowblind is an awesome and must be bought immediately! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Tactical Shooter I have played yet.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and the expansion pack Athena Sword are two of the greatest tactical first person shooters to hit PC in the past few years, if not ever. You may know the name Rainbow Six from the previous games, Rainbow Six and Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. If you are a fan of those games, this game is a must buy for you. These games offer stunning graphics (runs on Unreal Tournament 2003 engine), amazing game play, a great single player mode, and of course online multiplayer.

General Game:
The graphics are a huge step up, especially from the previous games. The game runs on the UT2003 engine and supplies very good graphics, especially for a tactical shooter. The sound is great, and plays a key role in the game. Listening for enemies around you is key to survival in this game. You have to listen for foot steps, magazines being reloaded, doors opening, glass being broken, etc. This makes the game very realistic. Character movement is also somewhat new. Now you can go into the prone position and lay on the ground to fully stabilize your aim and accuracy. You can still peek your head around corners. One feature they removed was being able to climb up boxes etc, I feel this is realistic because no tactical anti-terror team would climb around on boxes. Also another realistic feature is not being able to jump, no one jumps around to dodge gun shots.

Single Player:
Most video games (especially FPS games) do not offer a good story line. This is not the issue with any Tom Clancy game. If you like games with a little more to them then killing, then this game is for you. The story lines are very interesting fiction-based stories involving politics, terrorism, and world conflicts. It is great being able to plan your teams' execution, you pick your teams' weapons, armor, electronic kits, explosive kits, lock pick kits, grenades, flash bangs, you name it.The only problem with single player seems to be the Artificial Intelligence. The AI is a lot smarter in these games then in the previous, but still need some work. If you have the AI set on Elite or Veteran they become almost impossible to beat unless you use smoke grenades to stop them from firing.

Online Multiplayer:
This has to be my favorite and most played part of the game. All you need to play is an internet connection (preferably broadband) and an ubi.com account to play. Multiplayer is my favorite part because you play against other players across the world that are much more skilled than the AI, and makes the game more challenging and different every time you play. There are special multiplayer maps dedicated to the game, so you will see new things in multiplayer that you did not see in single player. There are also tons of user made maps on the internet and great to play as well. There are also multiple game modes available to play online. Team Survival (Team death match), Survival (Death match), Co-op (you and other people against AI), and many other fun game modes!

Athena Sword:

Athena Sword adds some new missions onto the game. Many more weapons and some game fixes. Athena Sword is defiantly worth a look, especially with the new weapons added. With the Gold pack you get both games for a very low price, a great deal!

Overall, if you are looking for a great tactical shooter, great graphics and sound, get Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and Athena Sword Expansion! After the single player move on to multiplayer and really test your skills against the rest of the world!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fan of Ghost Recon / SOAF / R6 / RS / UO? Look here
I've been an avid Tom Clancy FPS PC fan since the first Rainbow Six was released almost 10 years ago.

Recently, I had been playing America's Army: Operations since its release in July of 2002. But after awhile, the game got repititious (same weapons kits over and over and over again), cheaters became rampant (aimbots and engine mods up the wazoo), and deathmatches (to me) were exciting when Doom first came out in 1994. The multiplayer aspect NEEDS to have some type of evolution.

Fast forward to Rainbow Six 3 Gold Pack! You get the Athena Sword expansion pack along with Raven Shield for a great price.

Rainbow Six 3 is based on the same Unreal 2 engine used for America's Army Operations. You can go prone now for more stable sniping positions (wasn't possible in Rogue Spear). You can slowly open doors, toss a frag/flashbang/smoke and close the door in one fluid motion.

*************************
Game Engine: I'd say its pretty decent for a tactical FPS.

There are some glitches like getting stuck by a door, and not being able to lean in certain spots on the maps.

I'd like to see a more powerful M67 frag grenade. Right now, you can toss a frag and only breach a door w/o hurting the tangoe right behind it. The M67 is supposed to have a 15m blast radius which should effectively clear the room of all tangoes, blow out all the windows, and cause a ringing in your ear if you're in the area.

I'd also like to see Lean Toggle like in AAO. I have to hold down the lean key, strafe key, and movement key - I start playing hand yoga on my keyboard afterwhile.

********************

Weapons Choices:

Athena Sword adds a few extra firearms but IMHO, the overall selection is better than the standard choices for many of the other Tom Clancy games.

It lacks:
more pistol caliber choices, better pistol damage (45 ACP has more stopping power than 40 S&W, but in RvS, the Mk 23 SOCOM - .45 ACP - is rated slightly less powerful than the USP 40)
I'd like to see the 44 Magnum Desert Eagle and a 10mm Glock.

For rifles, they did a decent job of choosing the most common battle rifles.

What they left out were the M203 40mm nade launcher, M136 AT-4 Recoil-less anti-tank launcher, and GP-30 Russian grenade launcher. I'm pretty sure they did this because Rainbow is supposed to be a HRT-type team and NOT a full-on military assault team.

I would have liked to see multiple accessories:
suppressor + high capacity magazine + mini-scope
Because that is more realistic. You can slap on a 90rd Beta mag on a M16, along with a Gemtech and Trijicon ACOG w/o any problems. The rifle would be REALLY heavy, but it's do-able.

**************************

Graphics:
The character modeling is decent, and I love the ragdoll physics! Some improvements are in order but otherwise it's fairly decent!

The rifle modeling, OTOH, leaves something to be desired. The iron sights weren't done right on the M16/M4.

*******************************

Single Player:
The maps, as usual, were fairly robust. There's lots of detail and the environment is just overall very realistic.

Multiplayer:
Typical deathmatch stuff, but Athena Sword adds Count Down and some other stuff.

My favorite is Cooperative Tango Hunts. I'm not sure if this is new because I've never tried Rainbow Six or Rogue Spear multiplayer, but Cooperative play against the PC isn't all that bad. Just pretend you're playing against 40 people that all have aimbots, accuracy mods for pistols and submachineguns, and occaisonally look in the wrong direction.

******************************

Recommendations for CQB:
HK G36K + Silencer. It comes with a 2x red-dot scope, and the silencer helps with stability and noise suppression.

Desert Eagle 50 AE + High Cap Mag. Excellent stopping power, accuracy, and range. While you can get a bunch of ammo with 9mm, 40, and 45 pistols - you will need most of that ammo to take down a tango. 1 or 2 shots with the Dessie 50 AE will do the job.

Frags and Smokes: Frags for clearing out rooms, Smokes for you to move w/o the PC firing at you, OR smokes to slow down the PC.

For medium to long-range engagements:
SL8-2 + thermal scope
Desert Eagle 50 + hi cap mag
Frag/Smokes and Primary Mags (or secondary mags if you plan on more CQB than long range).

Use the SL8-2 to snipe (thermal scope helps locate enemies using heat signature, useful in urban environments) and Desert Eagle for close range engagements.

I recommend you download some of the Raven Shield community map packs and practice by yourself.

Overall, this game is totally worth it and I hope my review wasn't too boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tactical gaming must have!
If you're looking for a "run & gun" action title, skip this game and look into Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, or DOOM - this is a tactical shooter. This title is great, if you're looking for a first person shooter with a little more substance and realism to it. Right off the bat you're in charge of mission execution/planning, team selection, and choosing specialized weapons kits (flash bang grenades, heartbeat sensors, etc..) for your operators. Instead of running into rooms and shooting everything in site, you will have to carefully lead your team in hostage rescues and similar missions (great use of the mouse wheel to slowly open doors to peak in, or throw a flash bang grenade). Great graphics (especially with a higher end graphics card)and great gameplay. Multiplayer online for Rainbow Six 3 is where it's at, though. Hook up with others and form a team to cooperatively complete missions and eliminate tangos, or go team against team and try to eliminate each other. Another great thing about this game is its use of the Unreal graphics engine. This game's engine looks great and is not too taxing on the graphics card, plus it is easy to make modifications (mods), or custom maps/missions with the Unreal engine (tons of great maps for free download already, which just enhances the replay value!). As with all games, this one isn't perfect, as the computer AI (your teammates and enemies) could use a bit of polishing and some of the missions are pretty difficult, but overall, a great game. If you like this game, you may want to look into Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, which is very similar.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tedious
I bought Full Spectrum Warrior for $20.00, so it's cheaper than the usual $50.00 for newly released games.

I finished the game in about 2 days of steady play. After completion you are awarded 3 bonus epilogue missions.I have not completed these missions as of yet.

There are 2 squads, Alpha and Bravo.
Both squads are made up of a Team leader, rifleman, grenade launcher and SAW (squad automatic weapon)

You can direct each squad (A & B) and switch between the 2 using the Triangle button. You can't control an individual squad member as far as movement, only the entire squad.

The object of each mission is similar, flank and out maneuver various "terrorists" set in the mythical country of Zekistan.(see Iraq)It's obvious the bad guys are Muslims because of the odd chanting back ground music in the game.

Moving the 2 squads gets very tedious after awhile. This game is not a conventional shooter, it's more about strategy really.Sticking to cover is the best way to beat the game.Moving a squad in an open area is a great way to get a team member killed. The death of 1 of your squad members is a failed mission and you go back to the save point.

Save points are pretty consistent, move around take out some terrorists and you get a save point. Also in the game are various Casevac areas where a wounded soldier can get healed and you can restock on ammo.

The graphics are sub-par at best, but the CG intro and exit movies are good.Control of the squad is complicated but once you get the hang of it, it's kind of fun to move around and out flank a bad guy.On a couple missions 2 Delta Rangers join your Teams as squad "Charlie"They have laser equipped sniper rifles and quickly kill any terrorists in your way.Advice to anyone, use the Rangers and save alot of time. The accuracy of the normal Alpha and Bravo squads is inconsistent.Either the shoot a guy way far away or miss someone 10 yards in front of them. The best way to avoid getting killed is to stay behind cover at all times.

The 1 hour intro training game, called MOUT, is recommended before playing real missions.Maneuvering the 2 teams requires a learning curve.

So all in all, this is a strategy game, not a flat out run around and shoot stuff kind of game. The environment is closed and there's not much room for movement or exploring, the missions are linear, so replay value is somewhat low.

It seems from my mediocre review that I didn't like the game. The playability factor is good, it's fun to play, and requires a little thought instead of just fast hand-eye coordination.I liked the realistic dialouge filled with cuss words.I think real soldiers probably talk like that.

"Attention Bravo team, Move!"

"That's a kill"

1-0 out of 5 stars full spectrum warrior
this game is a waste of money, you would expect a game with as much hipe as this to at least be moderatly entertaining i was a huge fan of socom us navy seals and this was supposed to be better i played it at my friends house and we were clueless you cant even move your charector you direct it with a cursor thats the 1st of many awful things about this game secondly you cant shoot for your self you can only suppress who buys a war game to sit and watch seriously youd have to be a die hard fan to even but up with this game i tryed so hard to like but it was so tiring i eventually got the hang of moving the man but he says the same thing over and over i have never been more bored in my life this game is a pathetic equse for a war game if u want a high quality war game i recomend socum us navy seals 1 and 2 which involves tactics as well as all out war fare. Lastly you cant kill an enemy you can just supress his i thought 4 high trained soldiers could take out 1 third world merciary well they cant they all die in a pixelated shower of blood

5-0 out of 5 stars The Full Account
If you want a realistic war game buy this one. It is a really good game. It reallys shows what its like in a war. The missions just heaped one on top of the other. It is hard because you don't actually shoot but that helps addto the realisticness because you can't just kill a guy and live forever. To beat this game you have to have either alot of strategy or be really lucky. Do not let an eight year old get this! There is alot of cussing and it probably isn't good for young kids to see peoples brains getting blown out.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a War / Stratetgy Game... Not for everyone.
A word of warning for future buyers of this game:"Don't buy this if you're not a wargamer or a military strategy / tactics freak."

This game is all about tactics and its correct execution. It actually reminds me of the Close Combat Series in the PC (a top-view RTS game where you command World War 2 squads via mouse-pointing and setting their behavior).Because of technolgical advancement, we now have a 3D Close Combat game in the form of Full Spectrum warrior.

Like close combat, the goal of the game is proper positioning. What makes the game more challenging is keeping your men alive.Once someone dies, the game is over. The controls may not be intuitive at first, especially when you're used to First Person Shooters. But there are actually 5 training missions where you can practice them.Think of it as controlling the game with a mouse -- with the X Button acting as the Left Mouse Button. I think this will help a lot in understanding the controls. My only gripe about the controls is that the cursor does not pass through obstacles which makes commanding a pain sometimes.

The game mechanics are great as it forces you to THINK of ways to outflank the enemy while under fire without losing any of your troops.Brute force does not work in this game, as even one enemy can withstand the full firepower of your squad as long as he is entrenched properly. And charging head-on without suppression fire or smoke is suicide.

Graphics is so-so.Although I think that Pandemic's Star Wars Battlefront for the PS2 had great graphics, this game falls short. The backgroud is kind of bland and flat most of the time.I guess they have to compromise between map size (maps in the game are large) and detail because of the PS2's limitation.Troop rendering is good enough, but not as elaborate as SOCOM or Borthers In Arms.

Sound is also average.Gunshots don't sound as convincing as Brother In Arms.Although you can hear some of your troops wise-cracking once in a while, you'll sometimes get annoyed as they also do it at the same time you are recieving a radio message from HQ.This makes it difficult for you to understand the HQ message.

Conclusion:

Gameplay-wise, I guess this game is a treat for the wargamers.
Gaphics-wise, it's good enough, but I've seen better.
Sound-wise, same as above. I've seen better.

Again, I'd only recommend this game for hardcore wargamers who does't care about graphics and First Person Shooters.
For those who wants a great First Person Shooter with squad tactics and great graphics, you'd be better off picking up SOCOM.I'd also recommend Brothers In Arms (which I think is the best among the lot) but the game is not for everyone as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars A dissapointing arrival
When you first put in this game, the cutscenes are incredibly realistic and stunning.
