2-0 out of 5 stars Should be Crash City not Sim City
I bought this game for my son and I am now spending many minutes a day rebooting his MAC computer. The game locks up the entire system and requires a hard reboot each time. If this was an automobile from GM of Ford the roads would be littered with wrecked cars. Don't waste you money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great game, but you need a patch to fix a performance issue
I played all the previous versions of Sim City back in my bad oldWindows days and really enjoy the game. But for some reason this version will paralyze even a fast Mac.I'm running this on an iMac 1.8GHz G5 with 1GB of memory, and after about 10 minutes of play I have to quit and restart the game because the response becomes impossibly slow.Very frustrating.Haven't tried the updater yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

UPDATE (Apr 05): Installed the updater and it appears to have fixed the slow response problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good...if it has update!
I have noticed many people have said just how bad Sim City 4 is. The thing to solve these problems is to get the updater It will make Sim City much better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Graphics not a problem...if you fix them!
Lots of these reviews complain about the graphics on this Mac version.I had the same problems too - unexpected crashes and VERY slow game performance, on a pretty new G5 tower.

Doing two things will fix these issues. In the game's video/display options panel, switch off the page scrolling, and reduce the graphic detail. That's all it took to have this game running great. The manual should cover these quirks but it doesn't.

One final tip - learn the keyboard commands (found on the back of the manual) as it will speed up gameplay hugely, and totally compensates for no scrolling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!
Ok so i was a fan of Sim City 2000 which I found a demo of on a CD I didnt know i had. So I put it in and played Sim City 2000...and played and played and so on so I soon got the full thing. I became addicted to it. When Sim City 4 came out, i wanted it so much but I only had a mac. When it came out I bought like the first day! When I played I was sooooo dissapointed. nothing seemed to work right, the airplanes shadows became square and the streams on the airplanes was stretched all the way across, it kept crashing, and the industrial zone turned white, edge scrolling messed up sooooo slooooow. When I played it on a PC at my friends house, it was beutiful! Not a single bug! I ditched the game and played 2000 again finding it much better. Now I only play for like 10 minutes before getting bored. Seiously on this, NOT worth spending $40-$50 on this pathetic game. Maxis should be ashamed of themselves to take so much care in the PC games then throw it on a mac bugs and all. NOT worth it! Keep your money while you can! In other words, it doesn't take good graphics to make a good game. So get with it Maxis!! ... Read more

    Product Description

X-Plane is the most comprehensive and powerful flight simulator available for the personal computer. X-Plane simulates anything that flies: single-engine fixed wing props to multi-engine jets; gliders to dirigibles; helicopters to spacecraft to VTOLs such as the V-22 Osprey and AV8-B Harrier.

    Features

    • The most realistic flight model available for personal computers. It comes with subsonic and supersonic flight dynamics, simulating aircraft from the Bell 206 Jet-Ranger helicopter and Cessna 172 light plane to the supersonic SR-71.
    • 29 aircraft spanning the aviation industry (and history), and several hundred more are freely downloadable from the Internet.
    • Scenery that spans the Globe. You can land at any of thousands of airports, as well as test your mettle on aircraft carriers, helipads on building tops, frigates that pitch and roll in the waves, and oil rigs. Weather is variable from clear skies and high visibility to thunderstorms with controllable wind, wind shear, turbulence, and microbursts. Rain, snow and clouds are available for an instrument flying challenge, and thermals are available for the gliders! X-Plane can download real weather data from the Internet, allowing you to fly in actual current conditions!
    • Detailed failure-modeling, with 35 systems that can be failed manually, or randomly when you least expect it! You can fail instruments, engines, flight controls, and landing gear at any moment.
    • Includes Plane-Maker which allows you to create your own airplanes, and World-Maker which lets you create your own scenery. Also included is Weather Briefer which produces a weather briefing based on actual weather conditions downloaded from the net.
    • Extremely customizable, allowing you to easily create textures, sounds, and instrument panels for your own airplanes that you design.

4-0 out of 5 stars X-plane 8.0 - Rule the world with it
When I got it from the factory. All I got it the DVD in a plastic holder and that's it.No box, no instruction book.Nothing.

I had to get into the program and find out how to fly planes (X and otherwise) on my own.All I got this game for wa to train actor on Boeing 777 on a Mac, before we got them in flight simulators up in Seattle. But this game turned into much more.

If you can run up a B-52, take-off, circle and land; you can fly anything.I've landed a B-52G twice. But think crash. Not don't crash. What does the load vectors do.Will it take-off with four engines. What if all engines shut do on take-off?Crash land.Anyway.That's $100,000+ flight training at Alteon in Seattle (a private flight training company) for $50.Which you want to pay?

Some of the flight sims are a pain, like the X-15.Even if you load Edwards AFB or even Denver, you end up over water or desert that I have no idea where I am.The Space Shuttle is even worst.

But the MOST DIFFICULT plane to fly is the Cessna 172.You end up side ways, when you an at V1.And by the time you at V2, you're screwed.Commit, pull up and take-off.You're in the air or you've crashed.

    Mike Rossi

    Have fun!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Xplane is great!
X-Plane 8 is the latest and greatest in the long-venerable series of what is arguably the worldÕs best flight simulator.X-Plane is not really a ÒgameÓ, so to speak. It is a very realistic flight simulator with all sorts of bells and whistles and more aircraft, airports, scenery, and scenarios than you could ever ask for.

After opening the box, one is greeted with a DVD-ROM and a manual about 200 pages in length. For those who have never flown a real airplane or a flight sim, the manual devotes quite a bit of time to introducing the controls and terminology of the simulator. One minor annoyance is that in the lead tutorial for new users, the aircraft discussed in the manual is not included in the actual sim, at least not that I could find in version 8.I made do with a different craft, though. But the manual is otherwise a very welcome addition in this world of software that generally comes with little useful documentation.

Once you get through the tutorials and the terminology and you are ready to fly, navigating the sim is quite easy, though not entirely Mac-like.The dialog boxes and menus look different than a Mac user may be used to.That might be expected for a cross-platform game such as this, though.Even so, it is extremely easy to load your chosen aircraft (You want to fly a Hindenburg?Sure, why not!), pick your airport, file your flight plan, and then be on your way. You may configure weather conditions and daylight to your liking.X-Plane 8 even gives you a chance to fly the space shuttle and to fly several planes on Mars, using real-life conditions (though not real life aircraft, since those do not quite exist yet, nor do airports exist on Mars in real life).

The graphics in X-Plane 8 are truly beautiful.Scenery comes in two versions: one version for older, slower computers, and one version for those with better hardware set ups.The minimum specs call for a machine with 400 MHz processor and 32MB VRAM.I found that to be slightly unrealistic.Sure, you can run X-Plane on such a set up, but the graphics will be low-res and the experience will not be as pleasurable. This sim just about screams out for a system like the new iMac G5, with its 1.8+ GHz processors and 64MB of VRAM.Indeed, it plays smoothly and comfortably on such a system or on the PowerMac G5 as well.

Game play would probably be best with a real joystick, but I was able to use a small game pad or my mouse quite well.If you really get into the simulator, purchasing a suitable joystick would be a worthwhile investment.

X-Plane has FAA certification and is used in many training environments. That we hobbyists get to use it just for fun is a real treat. This is a world-class, top-notch flight sim, and it is bound to thrill anyone with a sense of adventure and a desire to explore the world through flying. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
This game is definetly worth the price you pay and makes Sim City a whole lot better! I especially like plopping Area 5.1 to get the UFO and decimate my city! (Ok here is a way to get an easy $10000... Ok build and iscolated build with a short peice of road connected to a fire station. Next use the fire disaster on the iscolated building and use the u drive it mode and select the fire truck. You should get the mission "Fire!". Accept it and because the fire station is right next door you put out the blaze in like two seconds. I made a FORTUNE doing this! So just BUY IT!

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good expansion pack overall
Rush Hour is a very good addendum to the already great SimCity 4.With it, you wil have more options to build your perfect and more realistic city. The addition of a new category of building type (Euro-Contemporary) adds variety to all your cities and new rewards and landmarks adds a great deal more visual interest. There are also more options for customizing your city, such as a greater variety in size of schools, police departments, fire departments, and recreational areas. If you crave a little action now and again, the U-drive it missions will also be of some interest to you.

Some things to keep in mind:

1)My computer exceeds all of the system requirements and the basic SimCity 4 ran fine on it.But Rush Hour made the scrolling action very choppy. If this happens to you, contact Aspyr tech support and see if you can get a replacement file entitled:"graphics rules.sgr."This solved my problem and the game runs smoothly now.

2)The code of your SimCity 4 will be slightly altered. If you have existing cities, be prepared for explosive growth after installing Rush Hour and possibly a massive deficit. You might need to greatly restructure some of your existing cities to become solvent again. In one large city, I went from breaking even in taxes to a $8000 deficit in a few months.Try to build up your funds to the millions before installing Rush Hour by running a surplus for many years so you have time to make your changes.

3)Rush Hour doesn't sound as good.Inexplicably, many sound effects, such as the destruction of buildings and roads have been virtually eliminated.I preferred the old sound effects.

Despite the nit-picking, Rush Hour is definitely a worthy purchase and makes a fun game even more so.Just be sure to prepare your cities properly before installing.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Game!!!
This is my favorite game in the entire world!!!Even my kid brother(who does not like Sim games)loves this game!I like to build different things and play U Drive It Missions to win different things! There is no doubt in my mind that(if you do not already have this game)you should buy it!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes SC4 so much better...
At first I was unsure of the value of this game.I wasn't interested in the traffic or the You Drive It missions. However, after playing, these make the game so much more interesting. Also, the ease of play is much improved.Highly recomended to purchase with Sim City 4. ... Read more

pros:The program contains 8 popular casino games: Keno, Baccarat, Poker, Craps, Black Jack, Slots, Roulette and Video Poker. It is easy to load, full of music and graphics and has basic instructions for all of the games. It can also be downloaded onto a Palm Pilot.
cons:The program incorporates a lot of the attributes found in casinos. If they could just incorporate some cigarette smoke it'd be real authentic!
    moose rating: 3
    reviewers name:Anita Williams

Hard Rock Casino incorporates music and graphics to simulate a casino experience. It is a safe way for a beginner to become familiar with 8 common casino games and how to bet in a risk free environment before the next trip to Vegas. It is also has plenty of challenges to keep an advanced player's interest.Play Keno, Baccarat, Poker, Craps, Black Jack, Slots, Roulette or Video Poker starting out in the 50's era as a character of your choice. You get the full era benefit including clothes and music. There are six rounds to play in a game and each round takes the player into new decade with the accompanying attire and tunes and into higher stakes and more options to play. The image below is a game table from the entry level of the 50's decade.

The "HELP" section contains information about the program and what options are available to the player up to and including playing online. Each game has a good set of instructions. However, if just beginning, the instructions will probably have to be reread several times before the game can be played with much skill. That is the advantage of learning the basics from this program. The cash is imaginary.

Hard Rock Casino requires OS X, 64 MBof RAM and 50 MB of free HD space. The program also includes a free Palm version as a bonus.

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
Before buying this software, you should consider placing a twenty-dollar bill on a non-flammable surface and igniting it. After about ten minutes you'll realize that the programmers for this product must have been under the age of twelve. Any one over that age would not have to time left in life to wait for the game to proceed. Slow, illogical, repeated "are you sure you want to do that?" windows, opponents without the slightest skill (and no options for altering them). I could go on for another hour or two, but this program isn't worth any more of my time. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Review for the Alaska Apple Users Group
My beloved web-slinger is making a comeback, including the release of his newest video game on the Mac. Featuring the voices of Spiderman 2 stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Alfred Molina, the game pits Peter Parker against Doctor Octavius as well as classic foes in a story based on the film.

Without giving away too much, the key scenes in the movie are loosely recreated in-game with a whole lot of supplemental twists to keep the action going. These extra adventures draw several characters from the comic book into Doc Ock's criminal scheme, giving Spiderman plenty of opportunities to practice his witty banter. Each character has been modernized to better fit the aesthetic of the films and show less of their dated comic origins.

All of the staples of Spidey action are present too. Swinging through the city, zipping to ceilings, and climbing walls. You fight thugs with punches and kicks, tie them up with webbing, and even disarm them from a distance. Add more complex fights with the main foes and you have a lot of fun being a super hero!

You get to chase Puma floor by floor through the open framework of a skyscraper under construction - lots of swinging, dodging projectiles, and overcoming acrophobia!

And Mephisto's levels take Spidey's acrobatics to a whole new level - jumping from web to web at eye-level with airliners. I actually found it unnerving to look down!

Unfortunately all of that action doesn't last too long. The difficulty level is fixed and the game is aimed at a younger audience, so it can go by quick. I finished it in just my second sitting.

To fill the time there are mini-games everywhere. These optional challenges to find all the targets or swing through hoops to demonstrate your web-slinging skills encourage you to think like a spider and give you hero points that accumulate to unlock bonus missions.

Just moving the plot along also requires puzzle skills since many required tasks are based on repeating a sequence (remember Simon?). Beating several of the bosses also requires simple pattern recognition.

The puzzles, simple combat, and limited control makes the game feel a lot simpler than the last Spiderman movie game (released exclusively for Windows). While this version is a blast, the first was probably more exciting for older players.

The graphics in the previous version were also more cinematic. The visuals in this sequel are good, but lean toward cartoon colors and lighting. Your opponents are limited too - you end up fighting identical thugs over and over.

Worse than their uniform appearance is their tiny selection of dialog. Sounds in this game are limited. The only thing worse than the tinny sound of walking is hearing Rhino say "I'm gonna smash you!" for the tenth time!

The cut-scenes too are poorly implemented. Which is bad because they are critical to the progression of the story. The mix of pre-rendered CGI and in-game animations distracts from the continuity of the action and, though they feature three of the movies actors, the rest of the dialog and voice acting is poor. On top of all that, some of the pre-rendered scenes are squished, ruining their cinematic value.

There are some in-game scenes that work well, however. Simulating spider-sense, certain scenes queue you for input to evade danger. This is neat but too rare and usually moves Spiderman instantly to a new location. Along with long load times, this further disrupts the stories progression.

Beating the game once opens up a free play mode that lets you explore the city and play any of the mini-missions for fun - a great way to practice your spider-skills. You do have to repeat the tutorial every time you start a new game, though. At least Bruce Campbell voices it - he performed the same role in the previous game and had a cameo as the wrestling announcer in the first movie.

Despite limited re-playability, technical deficiencies, and a plot that doesn't flow as smoothly as it should, I liked this game. It's simple (even more than it's console versions), and the violence is light and non-graphic, so it's great for kids. But I think anyone can have a whole lot of fun being Spiderman!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as it has been made out to be...
If you've seen screen-shots or video clips of "Spider-man 2: The Movie" it's likely that those come from the PS2, X-box, or Gamecube versions of this game. While the console versions do look a bit prettier, and offer significantly more interesting game-play, I have to give a lot of credit to this Mac version.

The Mac version (ported from the PC version) uses a 1-button action control system, which pretty much limits what you can do to contextual situations that arise during the game.Clicking the mouse button allows you to swing through the city if you see a Web target in the sky (which float through the scenery of the play area in a fairly silly way).If a bad guy is in front of you, the mouse click is the punch, kick, and combo - all determined by how many times you click the mouse.Since I'm playing using the keyboard, the 1-button interface is actually pretty neat because I was able to get into the game and start playing without learning a lot of controls. Were I playing with a game-pad, I would have been a little disappointed in the limitations the control system has to offer.

The bad-guys are true to the Spider-man universe (Rhino, with a nice-looking updated costume, is the first badie you face), but the AI is pretty weak. For example, when battling the Puma, you don't have to do much to avoid the projectiles he's throwing, aside from hide around a corner. The bank scene is somewhat true to that scene in the movie and offers a nice early introduction to Doc Ock.That part of the game had some genuinely interesting puzzles in it.

On my 1Ghz G4 Powerbook, play is smooth at 1024x768 with all the features turned on and set to "high detail".

Is this game better than the first Mac Spider-Man game from Aspyr?
Not really. The original Aspyr Spider-Man is a classic and offers a really unique game-play system and has a great story.

    Is this game fun?
I think so.If you have a Mac, but not a PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube, I think this game offers a lot of Spider-man related fun.The voice acting (by the actual movie stars) is a treat and the graphics are very nice.

Is this game good for kids?
Maybe, depends on what age. There is a lot of punching and kicking and a bit of shooting in this game.I wouldn't let my six-year-old play this one (but he and I do play "Shrek 2", also by Aspyr).Kids old enough to handle the mild violence may benefit from the easy control system.

This is the one of several Mac game by Aspyr that has been based on a PC version of a game that is a lesser version of that game's console counterparts. Those games, along with this Spider-Man game, are all decent enough games, but pale in comparison to the versions you can get for one of the three major console systems. If you have one of those consoles, buy that version of this game. But if you're a Mac-owning Spider-man fan, I don't think this game is a waste of money.I'm glad I bought it...

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than the console versions
i appreciate every game released for mac but this isnt really an excuse for a game. If you've played it or seen it played on one of the consoles and it seemed like a good game (like i did) dont buy it for Mac or PC. The game has been dumbed down for the PC and Mac. The fight scences are choppy and poorly coordinated. The graphics are bad compared to the consoles. You need a heavy duty Computer to run the game smoothly. The whole "no where you cant go nothing you cant do" phrase would be correct if you took the "t"s of the cants. I seriously must warn you you wont be getting a good game at all. Thank god i didnt buy it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Journey
If you want a nice way to learn about and practice relaxation techniques and meditation this is a great product. It not only provides guidance but the biofeedback is a great way to learn. The game aspect of Wild Divine, in which one has to progress through a series of challenges, is also fun. I, like many people who have tried it, however, continue to return to our favorite parts of the program even after completing the game. Many people who have tried it have found that it has made a real difference in their lives. I heartily recommend Wild Divine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Using the Force
You get to move stuff around by the power of concentration alone.Balancing rocks on top of each other like Luke Skywalker when he trained with Yoda ... that's kinda cool.Play this game and you'll work out why the young Jedi discovers to his dismay that he has but beheaded himself in his fury against the phantom of Vader. This game is the closest I'm ever felt to Jedi knighthood.
... oh yes, good for de-stressing frazzled nerves too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun way to learn to relax
I've had this game since March 2004, and I really enjoy it. The gameplay feels a lot like "Myst", with beautiful rendered scenery and a variety of styles of music chosen to match the events. However, instead of intellectual puzzles, the events are based on the biofeedback techniques being taught in the game. They come in three basic types: relaxation events, "energy raising" events (good for helping to get motivated on a drizzly morning), and "heart breath" events, which help train your heart to beat with increased variability based on your breathing. These last seem to be helping with my mild arrhythmia. There are also non-biofeedback events which teach visualization and "subtle body" techniques, which are interesting. If you're looking for a first person shooter like "Unreal Tournament," this game isn't for you. But if you liked Myst, or are interested in yoga or philosophy, or if you're really stressed and looking for something to help manage the overwhelming feeling everyday life can cause, this is a good pick. For about three times the cost of a typical computer game you can get something that actually helps improve your outlook and health even when you're not playing the game (at least, that has been my experience). And the planned sequels will be less expensive, because you won't have to buy the hardware again. There's also an extremely supportive online community at the company website at http://www.wilddivine.com. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting view into a dark, mechanized future.
Having ventured through Myst and Riven some years ago, I was a little disappointed at the slower pace of Gadget. You can pretty much stroll through the game and enjoy the scenery without working any puzzles or "talking" with any of the characters. I much enjoyed the beautifully rendered computer environments and general premise of the game, but the end was somewhat convoluted and unclear. "A+" for artwork, "C" for plot, "B" for sound and music which was often restricted to large locomotives droning on and on. Computer artists and game developers will find Gadget a worthwhile study, but younger folks will find it pretty dated and dull. ... Read more
