4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
All in all, this is a good game. You might play the games differently than the computer does, and you cant change it.You can play many different games though, and it will teach you the ones that you dont know. This isnt not one of those games that will entertain you for hours, but it is definatley fun.If your not that crazy about card games, do not buy this game. But if you are, BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely addictive and fun, but solitaire will tire you out
I've noticed that a lot of the reviews are really harping on a specific game having a bug that ruins the experience for them. If you look at the group on a whole, though, this is the best bargain in Gameboy games that I have seen yet.

The casino games are a lot of fun. Poker and Blackjack are well done, albeit slow (the computer really takes its time dealing cards). Video poker is a bit too simplistic to play for any amount of time, but your kids or slightly retarded uncle might enjoy it.

The Classic card games are extremely well done. I haven't played euchre in ages, but I got sucked back in almost immediately. Gin Rummy is slightly different than the version I played as a kid, but it's as viable a version as mine, so it doesn't bother me. Crazy Eights is a hoot, and learning to play cribbage and bridge by myself with a cold beer and Radiohead playing is a lot easier than having to listen to my grandmother or mom harp at me about how I played the last hand all wrong.

The solitaire games, while technically fine, are rendered almost useless by the controller. Moving each card one-by-one with the controller reminds me how much easier it is to play the solitaire games on my computer with a mouse. By the end of one game of Freecell, my hand was cramped so bad I had to go get another couple of cold beers and listen to side 1 of Dark Side of the Moon before my hand was functioning again. Fun, competent solitaire games, but I'll bet you develop Popeye forearms after a couple of weeks.

The cartridge is definitely worth it just for the Classic and Casino games, though. Perfect games for sitting in the airport or riding in the passenger seat - most of these can be played in 5 to 10 minutes, which is a plus for me. Even when they go longer than that, every game has a good save feature. You can make an identity for yourself, complete with customized face. Pretty funny and cool. This thing never seems to come out of the GBA. My wife is just as hooked as I am, too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Glitch in Klondike
After going through the deck three times, the program freezes up, making it impossible to win. Rather than admitting a programming error, telegames replied "that's how this version is in some countries." What they should do is fix all the bugs in the program and issue a recall to replace the older version if sent to their mailing address.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nicely done graphics
Yes, some of my favorites are missing from this game, but there are so many versions of card games, there was no way the creators could please everyone.
The graphics are surprisingly good, with choices of background, card backs, and a face creator. Face creator is a bit more limited than the one included in "Ultimate Brain Games" but will suffice. I didn't buy this game to create faces... I play card games with it!
The link feature is nice and the whole family can link up and play.
Overall, it was a good buy and an improvement to be able to finally play card in color on the Gameboy as opposed to my old B&W game.

4-0 out of 5 stars All in all, a pretty good collection of card games
It has plenty of card games to play.I purchased this mainly to play spades on the go.I wish it were more like Yahoo spades with more options in the menu so I could play double nil passing and suicide. Also, I would like characters with different difficulty levels, because I have only lost 1 game so far.I play on a regular Gameboy Advance, and I have found that if I create too many faces (3) and save too many games and settings, the game will freeze up.This can be corrected by going to the options menu and erasing your saved stuff. And I agree, there really isnt enough female faces. They all look like men.I didn't dare make one for my wife either! But, nonetheless, I love this game, as does my wife (gin rummy).I can't get the gameboy away from her!Hearts, Poker, Blackjack, Crazy Eights, and Go Fish are excellent. I would give this game an A, 4 stars because there is room for improvement. But it is my favorite gameboy game so far.Enjoy! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game but with frustrating problems.
While not necessarily raising the bar in my opinion the way "Sonic Battle" did for me, "Sonic Advance 2" is nonetheless another home run for the legendary Sonic video game franchise.

The play pattern is virtually the same as it's classic Sega Genesis ancestors: Dr. Eggman (previously known as Robotnik) is once again causing havoc with his megalomaniac schemes of taking over the entire world by building another 'death egg' (God, everything he builds is named after eggs) spaceship by wielding the power of the legendary chaos emeralds. Even worse is that Sonic's friends have been captured by Eggman and held hostage.

As a result, in the beginning, Sonic is the only available player but as one beats the boss machine at the end of the stages, more characters are unlocked and the game begins to branch into different versions of itself. My favorite is a tie between Tails and Cream.

The problem with this game though is a frustrating part. Although not completely, I've found it almost downright impossible to find all seven special rings in order to access the special stages at the end of each regular stage. (I've managed to get to special stage one after "Leaf Forest" but that's it) The last six regular stages make it like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Otehr than that, this is a very good Sonic Adventure game and is another good addition to the Sonic Legacy. With the frustrating Special Stage requirements, I guess they didn't call it "Sonic Advance" for nothing. :/ :)

3-0 out of 5 stars This is stupid. I reconmmend you play Sonic Mega Collection
I cannot say much about this game, but enough to steer you clear.
The story is that Dr. Eggman is making trouble again. That is it. There are no story telling elements witin the game.
The object of the game is to get from point A to point B. If you run fast enough in one direction for enough time, you will create a sonic boom and go supersonic. Which needs to happen more often.
Within the levels are emblems. You need a certain amount to go to special stage and get a emerald. Let me tell you, it is so hard to actually collect the emblems, I have never been to special stage. The emeralds unlock the final boss.
The characters are varied by skills and stats.
Cheese can attack from a distance.
Knuckles can punch.
Amy has a hammer.
Sonic is fast.
Tails can fly.

Whoopie.
Now I can go through the whole game with just Cream and Cheese and not break a sweat. There is a diffculty imbalance here.

This game is too imbalanced to be fun.

Now go play Sonic Mega Collection my groupies!!!!

if you exist......

4-0 out of 5 stars Even more zoom than previous Sonic games
If you have played the great classic Genesis Sonic games and the first Sonic Advance and just expect more of the same, think again. This game is even more about total speed getting from point A to point B than the previous games, with level design all its own.The levels are designed so that, if you want to, most of the time you can just hold down left or right and watch Sonic (or one of the other characters) ZOOM - until you are slowed down and have to decide how to proceed.Don't get me wrong, the levels are huge, with many paths for Sonic to take and a lot of stuff for the floatier characters (Tails and Cream) to explore. But everything, from each level's racing-style opening to the delightful fast-driving Eggman-vehicle bosses, and especially the level design, is all about speed.

You can probably dash through the first four levels on your first game, but from zone five onward the difficulty level, both in the levels and against the (I have to mention them again) speedy frenzied moving bosses, increases steadily every zone. The game is just difficult enough to keep me from zapping right through it, which is a good thing and keeps me coming back.I completed the first Sonic Advance the first day but have not beaten this one yet.I also have explored plenty and have not yet found a single chaos emerald, but I am sure they are there. This and the difficulty curve all keep me interested.

Another thing I like are the three action buttons. There is a jump button (essential), an attack button (with different effects depending on your character, including a ground pound that breaks floors and can aid in exploration for Sonic), and a 'trick' button, with high-speed effects that vary by situation. What's so good is that only the jump button is necessary, but if you are fast enough and want more variety you can make the game feel much deeper by using one or both of the other buttons in just the right situations.

I don't know just how long this game will keep my interest, but on the second day I have had it, MAN is it fun. It's all about speed.

4-0 out of 5 stars sonic2
sonic2 is a great game:) but is way to easy, you zip through each level just like that. i'll admit, it had some pretty good stunts, and bosses, and would keep you entertained in the car for 2 huors, sinceitakes you that amount of time to beat it. the only bad thing i say about this game, is the last boss. he is way to easy!!! i hope they make all the bosses a little harder, next game!!! bye:)

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Sonic Fans
Sonic Advance 2 is an okay good game. I've never played the 1st Sonic Advance game though, so I don't know if #2 is a big improvement or not. Well, you start off with Sonic, and get Cream, Tails, and Knuckles later by just progressing through the game (the order I put them in is the order you get them). You get Amy by unlocking her with all of Knuckle's emeralds, you get the Tiny Chao Garden with all of Sonic's emeralds, the Sound Test with all of Cream's emeralds, and Boss Time Attack with all of Tail's emeralds. If you don't want to unlock the things, I suggest forget buying this game. If want the game and just don't want to unlock, get a Gameshark/Codebreaker/Action Replay. For those who want the game, have fun and good luck! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To the last reviewer
Haven't you read at the top? It says "Classic NES SERIS"! Please think before writing.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is just wierd?
Okay so since I heard from other reviews on this game saying that this one is missing a level here is something you may have not heard. In DK64 you can actually play the Arcade Version of the whole Game on the N64! Plus even when you play the NES Version what does it mean with 1+2 Player A or B? Nintendo Should've just added the Pie Level for the NES Version. I mean what the **** is Nintendo Thinking?

1-0 out of 5 stars If you want to play NES games, use an NES.
This game is not bad. The E-reader version was much more affordable, though.
20 dollars? For 3 one-screen levels? I didn't think so.
If you still want this game, get the old black-and-white game Donkey Kong for the original Game Boy. It has all the levels from this, plus about 100 more. Fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars DK64 has the entire game with the pie level
Why should you go out and use your money on this when the Donkey Kong 64 video game already has the arcade version? The Pie Factory level isn't in the game, but you can play it whenever you want (Without using 25 cents to play it on an arcade) with the missing level if you get DK64.

The only cost is to make it to the Frantic Factory level and unlock Donkey's Gorilla Grab. Then you can play it with all four levels for free!

Both games cost about the same, but DK64 gives you the whole game with a gigantic Banjo-Kazooie-like adventure for the same cost. Plus, beating Donkey Kong in DK64 unlocks a very important item in the game (Nintendo Coin).

I don't know why Nintendo even made this game, but it would've made more sense to just use Donkey Kong Jr. instead.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Short
This is a good game, but it only has 3 levels that are easy. There are very few enemies, and mario is very slow and can't jump high. I wouldn't recommend you waste your money on this, because it gets boring really fast. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Only if you're a die hard fan...
I'd like to start off by saying I am a hockey fan. I have been since age 10, played for 5 years, and reffed for more. Especially with this past season being cancelled, I'm certainlly in need of my hockey fix, so I picked this game up.

989 forces you to use the analog button for skating. I'm not sure it's because of this, or because of the engine, but whatever it is, the player controls are sloppy. If you know what it's like to walk on ice with a layer of water on it, you've expierenced the amount of control you have over your skaters. At first, it's excusable, but after you miss check after check and play opertunity after play opertunity because if it, it becomes extreamly agitating.

The only other large flaw with this game is the passing system. Luckly, 989 saved face by throwing in a precision passing system, where you can control who it gets passed to. If you use the defult mode though (or even sometimes with precision), you really can't be guarenteed that the pass to will be to anyone, at all, anywhere near the ice. Your team missing passes is common place, where the other teams (even on rookie mode) will make picture perfect passes all game long.

Unfortinatly, the awful control and passing overshadow the chances that this game will be much fun longer than 15 minutes. This title should only be considered by extreamly die hard fans with lots of patience, otherwise, wait untill EA gets something out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hockey Fun
I must admit i was gambling when i decided to make Gretzky my first PSP game but i am happy. This game is easy to learn, competitive and a ton of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
If you listen to that guy its to bad for you because I thought the game was great. It depends on what team you pick and what thier stats are. Really good game Must Buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying
Gretzky NHL, made by 989 sports, the worst of all sports games makers, is a sad excuse 4 an NHL game. If you are used to the EA or ESPN games then you'll just love the button set-up(sarcasm). Most of the buttons r the same but instead of square being to shoot, you're stuck with square being to check and deke. Circle is now the button for shooting and there is no option because you're not allowed to change the controller setup. Sure, that's not really a big deal, but it gets better. Player movement is extremely unreliable since you push the analog one direction and your player goes another. The reaction time when u press to shoot is very slow and often results in unwanted slapshots giving their goalie plenty of time to get prepared. The opposing team, no matter what skill level you have it on, has complete advantage, always. They are faster, they have faster passes, more accurate passes, instant shots, no fatigue etc. Meanwhile your players... are completely stupid, your defense basically does not exist. Computer controlled teammates wont help you at all and your goalie rarely stops anything. All in all this is a poor game and should be overlooked if you're buying a PSP. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars don't get it
now don't get me wrong, i love this game, it's just that i can't seem to get past the 2nd level. when i'm in the desert, fighting the sand people, and when the music swells, and the screen smalls up, I once sat through that for 20 minutes trying to get past the enormous horde of sand people, but no luck, eventually my health ran out and i went back to the last door. ditto. someone please tell me how long you have to go through that particularly long one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Are we there yet?!
This game should serve as an example of how not to make a platforming adventure game.It manages to get almost everything wrong.

The story is the Star Wars trilogy, and it's told from Luke Skywalker's point of view.Your character throughout the game is Luke, and he has to blast and swordfight his way from the beginning of Episode IV to the end of Episode VI.

Let's start off with the only bit of good news here.Visually, this game is appealing. The backgrounds and characters all look great.Character animations are exceptionally good.Luke runs and jumps around fluently. His moves with the light saber are well animated.Storm troopers, jawas, and other characters all look great. No complaints in the visual department.

Unfortunately, this is where the good news ends. The sound here leaves a bit to be desired. At the beginning of each episode, we see a text scroll accompanied by the Star Wars music, just like in the movies. The music here could've been better."Star Wars: Flight Of The Falcon" did a much better job with this music.During the game, we hear a variety of themes from the movies. They're all decent reproductions at best. The sound effects here are better.Laser blasts all sound pretty much like they're supposed to, as does the light saber.R2D2 accompanies Luke through some of the levels, and the little droid makes faithfully reproduced beeping noises when he accesses a terminal or wall socket (which he does frequently). He also makes that whining sound when he gets hit by a laser blast. So our sound department is a mixed bag.Effects are good.Music could've been better.

All of this would be acceptable if not for the game-play, which does a great job of bringing this game down. The problems here are so numerous, I'm not sure where to begin. For starters, this game does way too much talking. As mentioned, the story is told from Luke's point of view, and we are subjected to him telling the entire story...in detail.Along with static scenes from the movies, he'll tell us what's currently going on at any given point during the game. This is all pretty redundant and annoying to have to skip through at a couple lines of text at a time.

This game is mostly a side-scrolling platformer.Throughout Episode IV, Luke runs and jumps around with his blaster, shooting tusken raiders and storm troopers. At the beginning of Episode V, he gets his light saber.I know it sounds promising and engaging, but this is some very mediocre gaming (if not worse). The level designs are very pedestrian, and there are many levels here to traverse.

To make matters worse, there are frequent freeze-frame encounters, during which hordes of storm troopers must be eliminated before you can progress. When you reach a certain point, the screen is surrounded by black borders, and storm troopers will come on-screen from the left and right. You have to kill them all before you can advance. This happens so often, it becomes extremely monotonous.I lost interest before Luke arrived on the Death Star.First he had to go through several levels of tusken raiders, then several more levels of Mos Eisely.By the time he arrived at the Death Star, it was already becoming tiresome.I kept entering a doorway and finding myself in yet another level full of storm troopers, and I was thinking "Aren't we there yet?"It doesn't get better. It just keeps getting worse.Level after level of probe droids and snow troopers.Level after level of storm troopers at Bespin. And so on.

The controls are also part of the problem. To aim up or down with the blaster, you have to hold the R button while standing or crouching, respectively. This aims the blaster diagonally, and there's no way to aim straight up or down. This is incredibly awkward, and there are numerous times where Luke has to shoot storm troopers who are above or below him.The light saber doesn't get much better. There are a variety of light saber moves that Luke can do, but none of them are much of a match for a good blaster at your side. With the light saber, you're walking up to opponents who are shooting you.Add to that the need to jump over prevalent chasms in order to reach the opponents, and you're better off just bringing out the gun.

For the assault on the Death Star, Luke pilots his X-Wing fighter in an overhead view reminiscent of Sinistar. It's pretty silly. The X-Wing and tie fighters bounce off of each other, just like the ships in Sinistar. The trench run is also presented in a silly overhead view. The only thing I liked about this sequence was that Darth Vader and his two escorts show up at the end, and Luke has to dodge their fire until the Millennium Falcon comes on the scene. But the space combat that precedes this little treat is about as awful as the rest of the game.

A built-in save feature automatically saves your progress, and Luke has unlimited lives. If you get killed, you'll restart at the beginning of the current level. This game is begging to be played all the way through, but is it worth the effort?I quit after the first confrontation with Vader.Even if the final third of the game is awesome, it wasn't worth playing through the other two thirds to see it.I have a feeling that the final third is just as dismal as the rest of the game. The designers tend to use the same motifs over and over throughout the game.

To sum up, this game is incredibly awful.Great visuals, good effects, decent music (I've heard better), some awkward controls, and terrible game-play.I don't care how good everything looks. This game isn't fun.A good-looking game that isn't fun is going to look good on the shelf, collecting dust.

3-0 out of 5 stars r make doubly sure your kid will like this game/keep reciept
My son bought this game two days after his birthday with his birthday money. Decided it didn't like after playing it for two days. BUT he lost his receipt so of course ToysRus would not refund his money. This took place at a local ToysRus store. I thought by scanning the bar code on the box that the store could tell that it came/purchased from this particular store. The manager said the barcode is universal..blah, blah. I highly questioned that. The sales lady kept blabbing that it was their policy not to refund money for a video game that has been opened with no receipt. I said there is also a policy about customer satisfaction also!! But to no avail. So we ended up taking the game to E B games for resale. Course my son lost out on some of his money. I have spent quite a bit of money at ToysRus locally and online. However, now I will certainly think TWICE before giving them anymore business.

Boasting an enhanced ref AI, the referee will run up and down the field reacting realistically and instinctively to fouls, giving advantage for minor infringements and even stepping in to calm things down when the action gets heated.
  • Taking the series to a new playing field, Winning Eleven 8 features improvements on a number of options in the game. An enhanced training mode allows beginners to learn the basics of soccer as well as to help gamers master the vast depth of play. In addition, Winning Eleven 8 features improvements to the popular Master League, which now has more strategy through player development and injury, and a new 'My Best Eleven' option so fans can save their greatest teams.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than FIFA
I am from England where ever loves FIFA but now there is a new footy game on the market and everyone is turning. In the UK its called Pro Evolution Soccer 4 and i have had ever single one of them sice Pro Evo 1. They all better than FIFA because it has better game play and is much fast than FIFA which is slow and boring not like the beautiful game of football but the only thing FIFA has over Pro Evo is that it has better graphics and has the real names, which is made up for in gameplay. This is a great game playing against your mates because the pace of the game is gets much faster. This is much better than FIFA and the more people that buy it the more real kits and names there will be on the game SO BUY IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Winning Eleven series to date
I have played all of the North American W.E. games since WE 6 and I have to say that I am impressed with the consistent improvements that Konami has done with this series.Below is my review based off the PS2 version:

The Winning Eleven games have all had one thing in common: tremendous and realistic gameplay. Not only does WE 8 continue this tradition, but the game also adds on welcomed new features that compensate for the lack of online play and club licenses that is synonymous with the FIFA series:

- On the pitch referee
When fouls are committed, you'll witness a referee run up to the play to either warn the player or toss out a yellow card. What makes this neat is that you have the option to select which referee will be the decision maker for your game. One ref that is not made available is Pierluigi Collina, who is heralded as being the best ref in the sport. That's a bit of a bummer but doesn't really do much to affect the game

- Free kicks now involve two kickers
Yep, that's right.By using the select button (on the PS2), you have the option of using two kickers from the spot. This now only adds to realism, but strategy as well since you have more than one person at getting around the wall during free kicks.

- Advanced moves
In previous versions of W.E. you had to be real adept in using the buttons to get around your opponent.Although you still need to be pretty skillful in maneuvering your man, you can use the R2 button to perform stutter steps and more fakes to get around the defender.Playing against the computer on the highest difficulty will show you how hard covering the AI has really gotten.

- Improved AI
As great as WE 6 was, the AI wasn't overly difficult.WE7 was better at working on this but now, WE 8 has really added to this department. You'll find that if you play the same two teams 3 times, you'd be pressed to win all 3 games in a row.The defense of the AI has hard to get around unless you really are adept in passing well.As I said earlier, offensive AI is hard in its own right in that the addition of trick moves makes it hard to cover your opponents one on one, especially if the opposing player is a star such as Ronaldo, Zidane, Henry, etc. You'll also never score the same goal twice (unless it's a penalty kick). The AI is just too good in this game.

- Improved graphics
This is easily the best looking WE game in the series.Although FIFA has been renowned for their graphics, I really think WE is not that far behind anymore. You can easily make out players such as Beckham, Schevchenko, Figo, etc.Heck, you can even witness Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United along with his huge earrings.Animations are numerous in this game as well.Players complaining, goal keepers trying to motivate teammates, players pushing each other after a hard foul was committed all add to the fun factor in this game. You'll even see dirt stains on players' jerseys after a few minutes have passed in the game.

- Deeper Master's League
Although I have yet to try this part of the game, I have been told that this is the bread and butter of the game.Basically this is the part of the game where you take a team over the course of several seasons and try to build a dynastry (similar to franchise mode on other games like Madden). You can keep track of your players during the course of a season with player ratings fluctuating.Old players will retire at season's end and young players, with added playing time, will improve right before your very eyes.Previous W.E. Master League's have kept me busy so I'm expecting this year's iteration to do the same to me once I get to it.

Here are the few cons I found (PS2)
- Commentary/Sound
Not horrible, but not great. However, once youre knee deep in games (which will happen once you play the hardest level), you won't be concentraing on the sound as much.

- A bit of slowdown
If you have several players in the box, there's occasional slowdown but not bad enough to take away from the gameplay.

- No online play.Probably the most "glaring" deficit of this game according to some.True, online play adds fun to games, but I always felt that playing a sports game with more than one person is best when you play your friends directly instead of over a broadband connection.

Overall, this is probably one of the best sports games I have ever played (Madden 2003, NBA 2K series, and SSX I think are on this level). Even if you're not a soccer fan you'll enjoy how much of a challenge this game will provide for you.If you are a soccer fan like myself, you'll be blown away by the realism this game serves up. And if you're a Winning Eleven fan, you'll be flat out impressed with the new features this game adds over previous editions.

4-0 out of 5 stars No frills... addictive gameplay
This is definitely a no frills soccer game. The menus are crap. The music sounds like it was ripped from some 80's action flick. The graphics are pretty good but it looks like we've hit the wall with this generation of consoles, so you feel like your looking at every other soccer game around. The manner in which you save games and highlights is clumsy. And I'm sure there's more stuff but I've only owned it for about 24hrs.

What stood out is the game play and physics. There must be hundreds of player animations, all extremely realistic, that tie together seemlessly. Players stumble, trip up, dive, roll over and over like Klinsman back in the day, get pushed aside, throw up their arms in dismay when they miss an easy chance (and sometimes cover their faces and drop to their knees), dispute throw-ins and fouls with the ref, reel from a powerful shot, and so on. It's all these manerisms that you take for granted when you watch live soccer on the TV, but appreciate so much in this game because it's obvious that the designers cared about making it as realistic as possible. It's all in the details. The game play itself is smooth and intuitive. If you've played FIFA for donkey's years because it's the only soccer game of note in North America, then you can dive into this one very quickly. Once you get up to speed you will find that games flow nicely and are very challenging. The opposition AI makes for a tough game at higher difficulty levels and goals won't come easily. Stadiums are varied, more so than in FIFA. The way the grass has been cut, the quality of the pitch, the type of netting used in the goal, the closeness of the crowd to the pitch, all vary as they should. I love the way the ball behaves in wet weather, stopping up short and kicking up sprays of water every time it hits the turf. The way the netting responds to the ball hitting it at different angles and speeds is a thing of beauty. I look for all of these small details in a soccer game, and I was pleasantly surprised here.

Overall it's a bare bones package with high quality game play and incredible attention to detail. As far as licenses go you get the Spanish and Italian leagues and maybe a couple more, but the others are all fictional with some real names thrown in. Giggs plays for Man Red apparently. There seem to be plenty of other features like training, cup competitions, editing capabilities, etc. that I don't really care about. I just want an entertaining and realistic soccer experience and this game delivers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing... not for soccer purists
Maybe I was expecting too much out of it, but after playing it for 30 minutes I realized how FIFA 2005 is worth every single penny. Although the graphics are outstanding, the movements of the players are dull and robotic. The players' jerseys nearly look like the real ones for most teams, and some local teams don't even exist. There are two teams called "Pampa" and "Patagonia" (WTF???????) with the colors barely similar to Boca Juniors and River Plate, whose players have fake names that sound like the real ones ("Atontanchieri" instead of "Abondanzzieri", and so on). If you like to play a game that looks realistic from any aspect, go for FIFA 2005.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Soccer Sim (Bad US Distribution Though)
This game is the same as the European "Pro Evolution Soccer 4" and if you have heard the buzz surrounding that game then you should know that this is really the only soccer game worth buying and probably in the top three sports simulations of all time.

The problem has been that Vivendi are too slow in releasing Winning Eleven 9, i.e - Pro Evolution Soccer 4, which has been out for months now in Europe. Vivendi really need to pick up the pace there.

The game has been in development since the Nintendo 64 and is easily the best soccer engine out there. All of the players have full character skins that resemble the players in reality (real moving hair!), except some of the names are not the same because of license issues (don't worry you can edit everything in this game).

Apart from the outstanding game engine (replay mode is almost like real soccer on television) the character animations are intricate and extremely realistic. The players respond to fouls by falling in a multiple number of ways, other players throw their hands up in disgust at missing a goal or crash to their knees in exhaustion. Belt in a goal and watch them do a pile up as the crowd goes wild. Some players even have special moves.

Unlike most of the other soccer games this is a simulation rather than an arcade kick-about so if you are not prepared to spend a few days learning the controls and how to operate the environments, including formations and in-game strategies - you might just want to forget about this one, however this is the domain where the master players live and share memory card saved data with one another. In short soccer freaks the world over either have it, want it or plague the family of someone who has it.

The AI is really what makes Pro Evolution Soccer 4 stand out. It is also like really controlling little men on the pitch... what am I saying... they ARE really little men on the pitch (yes the game IS that good). There are 50 national teams and 60 fake teams. You need to go on the internet to find out who Konami imagined these fake teams to really be so you can edit in the right players names and team names (remember Konami does not have a license for everything so be prepared to do a bit of fiddling, however a huge percentage of the teams and players are already licensed).

There are multiple modes/games to choose from (up to 8 controllers/players can be used with this game) friendly matches, team play, match modes, cup modes, leagues, training simulations, edit modes and a Master League mode, each with several options for the type of game you want to play... there is no shortage of cups to win in this game. When you win about 3 cups you then have enough credits to start team transfers (meaning you can update EVERYTHING in this game to resemble actual football teams) and you can also create your own ALL STARS team.

The bottom line is that the manual for this thing is huge and it is everything you could ever want soccer to be. If there is one soccer game to own for the PS2, then this is it by a long shot. It is a great investment considering how many of your friends will play it to death with you over the many weekends to come.

If you play sport and don't own this game, then what are you waiting for? Just get this game, learn it, read the manual and be the best you can at it. This is the universal PS2 game that everyone who loves soccer plays and a really good dream team effort from Konami.

As a note the PAL version hacked for the PS2 with modchips was available for NTSC players long ago. So basically illegal copies where doing the rounds in America months and months before the official version was released. Given that Vivendi had such terrible problems with the release of HL2 it seems that there is a pattern emerging here. I feel sorry for the Konami programmers who will not see their just rewards because of bad distribution. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MORONS!!
First I would just like to say that those of you whom reviewed this game and put it down, said you would give 50$ to anyone that could understand it, I would just like to say that you're MORONS!
you must at least take the time to play it.
As for the graphics and whatnot, do you really think that a company would produce a game that could make games just like the ones on the market? Businesses would be...well...out of business.
You people need to think before you type!
As for those of us who liked it and aren't morons, Cheerio!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a GAME DEVELOPMENT TOOL.NOT A GAME.
There seems to be A LOT of confusion as to what RPG Maker 2 is.Here's what it's not:It's not a game. You can't simply put the disc in your PS2 and start playing some magical adventure. It is in fact a Game development tool.Ya know? For making games. Then you can play them.
That being said, it's a VERY fun program to use.If you understand what RPG Maker 2 does, then by all means, you should try it.At least then you will find out with a minimal amount of investment if game development is for you or not. :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a hard one..
Once I heard this game was coming out, I had to get it (as others said). I was hoping this game would be a little easier, but it is definetly a challenge. I bought it in the summer and therefore had a good amount of time to play it. However if you can not donate 2-5 hours a day, this games not for you. I now do not have nearly enough time to create an RPG, and therfore havent touched this game in months. This game is also VERY VERY challenging, Not many have mentioned how hard it is, but it takes a lot of thought. Good luck with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Metroid game.
While this is pretty much a remake of the original Metroid tale, it is still highly recommened to al GBA owners.

The music and mission of this game holds true to the original and will make you remember the classic like it was 1987 all over again... if youre old enough to remember.

Plus the added bonuses, like including the original Metroid game in its entirety, and including bonus galleries and a 15% challenge puts this Metroid game a cut above just about any other game out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Golf, only better
For those who have been steered away from 05 because the last couple have been too easy, you shouldn't be.The legend tour (replacing world tour) is much tougher, so you can't just run straight through. Also, there's tour diffficulty, which doesn't allow you to add spin from rough and hazards, and removes all caddy tips. But, for those long seemingly unmakable putts we have tiger vision, the ultimate tool for making putts, but you only get so many a round. On tour winning tournaments is still fairly easy, but not quite such a cake walk, some tournaments take 40 or 50 under. Also, there are more sponserships available, and items you own in '04 will be transferred to '05 for free, giving you a nice head start. The $45 price tag is well worth all the fun and challenge that comes out of this game.I'd be content and be able to play tiger woods 2005 for a long time, even if it were the only game that I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Awesome!!!!
It is awesome there are so many things to do. You can play in tournaments, or play the pros to earn money, or play many other games. You get sponsered by companies like Ping, Nike, Adidas, Callaway, and Clevland. I highly recomend this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game R-U-L-E-S
i got this game aweek or so ago and i love it! the slam dunk contest is my overall favorite.the tricks and dunks are just unbelivible! this is in my top 5 game list. ( even though i've only ever played 10.) the graphics are amazing. they look very three dimentional. to all those kids ( and adults ) over 7, i reccomend this game to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars cool game
i dont like basketball that much and this game rocks. it is like tony hawk where you can create a person and a place. for your team you could have up to 5 people and your character doesnt have to be on the team. you can have real people on your team and created ballers. this game also has different modes to choose from. theres dunkcontest, pick-up game, and the story mode sort of thing, street legend. there's more i just cant remember. some of the ballers are not even around in this game. like the old guys, you might say. and for the gamecube only they have the mario bros. they can do anything, even though they are short as a baby. even if you dont like basket ball, this game is cool. (Kyle Gern)

4-0 out of 5 stars Slam Dunk
Since the landmark success of NBA Jam in the 1990's basketball video games have often come & gone quite constantly. Yet, this really isn't anything new at all. However, for Electronic Arts, they have really felt that extraordinary need to get back into the video game basketball race. With the surprise success of the NBA Street franchise, basketball has taken a whole new meaning to the words Slam Dunk. Arguably, it took the 3 on 3 days and even the classic 2 on 2 days from the NBA Jam era, to a great era of the return to street jam. It is a great opportunity and a welcome for all gamecube gamers alike.

NBA Street V3 for Nintendo Gamecube, really takes the game of basketball to even better odds. The game includes a lot of great gamers, that you can play from great teams like the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and others. The game follows up NBA Jam quite well, where you can make spectacular slam dunks and shots from street basketball. The game also features modes where you can make up your own custom players and sleek courts of your own game. The games street mode allows you to make your own challenging contestants, and put them to the street mode. The game even includes a welcome cameo from Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool a.k.a Peach from the Super Mario games. It also includes a Slam Dunk contest, where you get judged on your slamming, and your creativity. The sound is really upbeat, and brings out the real feel of grear hip hop and rap from acts like House Of Pain, and the legendary Beastie Boys. The control gets used to with practice, if you haven't played the earlier NBA Street games, but it is easy to get used to.

All in all, NBA Street V3 is a great sports game, and one of the best for the Nintendo Gamecube. It is a little dull but challenging to play by yourself, but with others, it is just a delight. This is a real must have for anybody who is eager to jam, or who is just new to the NBA Street games. That is no missed shot at all.

This game is awesome! It is so fun making your own team and doing street challenge! You can create your own characters, shoes, and courts! The characters you make can get very deep detail! The game has great graphics! I like this game a lot and I suggest eveyone buy it. It is an awesome basketball game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nba Street V3 is the best basketball game ever!!!
This game is so cool! With the all new trick stick you can do a bunch of totaly awesome tricks. You can use any player from the NBA. You can use current players like Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony, and LeBron James or old players like Kareem Abdul Jabar, Wilt Chamberlain, and Larry Bird. If thats not enough for you, you can customize your own baller with the more advanced customazation that makes your created baller look so real and so awesome. The new gamebreaker is so cool too. You can do a bunch of cool mid air tricks to do an awesome gamebreaker dunk. After you create your own baller you can create a court for him and try out the cool new street challenge and build your baller's reputation to the max. To top all of that off there is a new dunk contest which is sort of baised off of the gamebreaker dunk. So that's the basics of Nba Street V3 but there is still a lot of cool stuff on it so you should try it out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely addictive
I love all Phantom slots but this is the best yet. They just get better all the time, and if you visit their website (PhantomEFX.com) message boards you'll see why.Someone from support is on there all the time trying to make things better for their customers.Even to the point of changing an upcoming game from 9 lines to 20 lines because that's what their regulars wanted! They have a new line of slots coming out in August, and they're promising to be even better--but I don't think you can go wrong with either Nickels & More or Nickel Alley.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best slot title around
After playing through 3 console casino titles in the past week and being disappointed in each of them, leave it to Phantom EFX to save the day.Nickels and More is a vastly entertaining product featuring a variety of video and reel slot machines and even 2 IGT licensed games called Checker King and Bunco Nights (which is sort of a variant on Yahtzee). While I have never seen these 2 IGT games in a Vegas casino, they are both very addictive.

As far as the video slots go, Phantom EFX came up with a nice variety of games ranging from 9-paylines to a whopping 20-paylines."Adventure" is one of my personal favorites. This 20-line machine features a unique bonus round structure that challenges you to a series of puzzles.Complete one and the next time you hit for the bonus, you play a new bonus game. There are at least 6 different variations to this which keeps the game fresh."Road trip USA" is another fun game featuring a bonus round that can be multiplied 2x or 4x depending on which "Interstate meter" you fill up first. An unusual slot variant is "Railroad To Riches", a 15-line machine with horizontally scrolling reels. One of the hardest games is "Grey Matter", a 15-line machine that features trivia questions for the bonus round. These trivia questions are far from easy as I have yet to answer one correctly on the first pick. All of the machines have great graphics and fun sound effects that complement the game perfectly. The reel slots aren't bad, but I'd like to see Phantom EFX come out with a volume of nothing but video slots. In addition to the slots, there is a "Prize Vault" which allows you to earn fictional prizes as you accumulate VIP points on your "slot club card".It's almost a game within a game, and if you listen to the prize descriptions, you'll find a few funny surprises as well.

Overall, if you're a slot fan, you definitely can't go wrong with this game. It's easy to pick up, easy to play, and very hard to step away from.

5-0 out of 5 stars PhantomEXF Does It Again
"Reel Deal Slots Nickels & More" is great.I look forward to each release from PhantomEFX.The games are creative and the graphics are so detailed. There are a good variety of 5, 9, 15 and 20 line games (Adventure is great & comes with great bonus rounds). And with this edition you can also add stand alone games from PhantomEFX website. This game is full of surprises.Like going to Las Vegas without having to lose all you money. For the money go with PhantomEFX.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun!!!!
Again EFX has put out another very fun set of games, to play on my home computer. My two favorite are the two you can find in some casinos, Bunco Nights, and cash King checkers. Both are fun and addicting. All the other games are like those you will find in casinos, some 9 lines, some 15 and a couple 20 liners. My favorites are Doctor, Doctor and CAT CRUSADER. There are also a couple of 3 coin slots if you like those I prefer the 9-to-20 liners with bonus games. All the games are fun, the graphics and sounds are very cool. Also when your play each game 20 minutes, gather enough VIP points to Buy all the prizes (in two open rooms and a secret room), win $10,000,000 Total you gain three more slots, two regular slots and one slot with a Video game. I highly recommend this set of games, and heck its way cheeper then going to the casino.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Awesome!
Wow!Its hard to find just the right phrase for this game.Phantom EFX has taken slot play to an entirely new level.I thought it would be hard to out-do their previous title "Nickel Alley", but WOW!Every game is awesome, well thought out, and addictive. The prize vault in this game is amazing!Nice job guys, and this is a must play! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent game
Fifa 2005 for the other systems is great so I figured I would buy it for Gameboy Advance. When I received it I was impressed by the graphics supported by the hand-held system. I was also wondering how great the controlling would be with only 4 buttons. Well, it turned out that it is very easy to control the players in this game. The career mode lets you sign a 5 season contract and is very fun. This game is very entertaining and has a lot of replay value. Any fan of soccer games would enjoy this, better yet any fan of sports games would enjoy this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
First of all, let my point out that mine came with demos of crimson skies and mech assault and the full version of xbox classic arcade.Mine was new in the certified microsoft box, etc.Maybe they just updated the games.

Anyways, it is in my opinion a better deal to buy the 12-month pack, but I decided on the 3-month just because I've got the 2-month trial already and didn't want 14 months built up.

In the box:There's the communicator headset, a 3-month subscription card, the game discs, and several manuals on connecting to xbox live.

The communicator:Purely awesome.I have read many people's comments saying that it breaks at the little clip.I grant it that the clip is thin and could potentially break easily, but it is not uber fragile.Don't be afraid to put it on.The headset weighs next to nothing and is really comfortable. It has great outgoing voice quality and great sound quality through the speaker.

Xbox Live Itself:Do you have broadband?Do you have a router and a switch or hub if needed? If the answers are both yes, you need xbox live.It is incredible.

Buy this or the 12-month kit if you are just starting (but don't forget to start your account first with the free 2 months. After you have live already, renew with the subscription card. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance casts you as the youngest son of the Azzameen family, a merchant dynasty operating in a galaxy far, far away. The game is set in the turbulent time period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Caught amid increasing tensions between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, with business rivals watching for any sign of weakness, the Azzameens are on the edge of financial ruin. Worse, their Rebel sympathies may endanger their very survival.

As the family's newest pilot, you fly tutorial missions at first, under the supervision of your sister Aeron and the droid Emkay. But even as you are training, the situation heats up. Before long, the family has been betrayed, your space station has been seized, and you're forced to turn to the Rebellion. Though the game's focus is on combat, the development of this story is tight and suspenseful.

The story and the merchant/smuggler setting give the game plenty of variety. One mission may have you piloting a loaded freighter through an Imperial blockade, while another may place you in the cockpit of an X-Wing on a hit-and-run raid against an enemy battle station. Every ship, every weapon, every sound effect is pure Star Wars, totally faithful to the look--and feel--of the movies. This extends to the missions themselves: nothing works as planned, but somehow you and your Rebel allies manage to make it all the way to the climactic Battle of Endor. If you've distinguished yourself in the earlier missions, hot pilots will get the chance to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon and cram a torpedo into the gut of the Emperor's second Death Star.

Controlling the fighters, freighters, and transports in X-Wing Alliance is easy, with all the options you'd expect in a Star Wars simulation. Shield, engine, and weapon power levels are all adjustable, so you, too, can transfer all power to front deflector screens while attacking, or shut down power to weapons to outrun a swarm of TIE fighters. Novice players may find it difficult to control wingmen or to keep track of the changing objectives when missions go sour. But practice makes perfect, and the truly frustrated can simply skip up to three missions without penalty.

With a modest learning curve and graphics that put you right in the milieu of the Star Wars films, X-Wing Alliance will have you flying combat missions for the Rebel Alliance in no time--and loving every minute of it. --Alyx Dellamonica

Pros:

  • Loving attention to detail
  • Fantastic sound effects and John Williams's music
  • Interesting and changing mission objectives
  • Wide variety of spacecraft
Con:
  • Occasional bugs within missions can render them unwinnable

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
Don't get me wrong by the title....I loved X-wing to death, and TIE Fighter was just fabulous too (we'll forget about Xwing V. Tie Fighter), but WOW!!!LucasArts finally got to an age when they had the computing muscle and graphical abilities to really give their X-wing series the beauty and power it deserves. These missions are really challenging and thrilling; when you fly into a cloud of TIE fighters and pick em off as they screeeeam by(with
