3-0 out of 5 stars Parents- Please Read
This review is not to critique the game and say if it's fun to play or not.I'm writing as a parent of a just-turned-6 year old boy who was loaned this game. While it is rated "E", and you may think it's safe for your kids like "Finding Nemo" or "Cat in the Hat" which are also rated "E".This game is VASTLY different. If you love your child and don't want him or her to see images of Spider-Man being ambushed by 5 gangsters with machine guns in the opening minutes of the game, then I'd suggest you pass on this one.
My son cried his eyes out for 5 minutes when I told him he couldn't play it anymore, but then happily went on to other activities. It was hard to tell him no, but I'm so glad I did the right thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pack spidy up for the academy arwards.
Spider man is fun for me tell you get to let's say the 4th level. But It is a good game. The most challengeing level is the 2nd one. Here you can try to get out a collapsing building.Just remember to watch out for the bad guys. The sound is awsome.Unlike Pacman collection you can save your score and save the game. The color is nice exept in a dimm room It's hard to see without a GBA worm light [And I can see frogger in the same room].You need a plan to get into level 5 [which I haven't figured out yet] because you need stratgy to get to level 5 and keep your helth up. Kids under 6 probaly need to wait a year or two. In this game you can live the movie and have a ball.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool
I got this game for my birthday and I love it. Action, Villains, dying, absolutely no getting past Kraven The Hunter, But still. I like this game a lot, but I like the movie Better. Although it's rated E, it has more violence than Samurai Jack, rated T. I'm sorry that I couldn't make this longer, but like I said, I'm only up to Kraven The Hunter. But still, it's fun. Well, that's it. I hope this review has helped you and encourages you to get this GBA game cartridge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiderman Game Boy Advance
This game was so cool, and it has variety of enemies so you won't get bored with this game. And this game sure will make you addicted (in a good way of course.) Anyway, what I'm trying to say was that this came was really COOL.........

5-0 out of 5 stars 4th Spidey Adventure is a must own
Starting back with the first Spiderman adventure for Gameboy color I have played all of Nintendo's spiderman games. All of them have been great and this is no exception. What I liked best was the brand new style they gave Spidey. It sets it apart from it's predocessors. And apart from a few lackluster bose battles (which are all original) there is great gameplay to be found. The makers don't delve too much into the big plot points of the movie but the story comes along nicley. Add that to tuns of secretrs to unlock and you have a unbeatable combination. Can't wait till Spideys next adventure. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My first game
This was the first game I EVER played. It really is cool, with 12
levels and plenty of secrets. Like in the third level, if you go all the way to the left and jump, it revels a block that will take you up to the cealing to get a bunch of coins, or that you can go inside some of the flower pots. I've been playing this game for 9 years, and I'm certain I don't know all the secrets. Anywho, people are complaining that you can't save: here's the question: why do you need to? The game can be beaten in thirty minutes...non-saving just adds to the replay value.

3-0 out of 5 stars itssooooooooofun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think that this game is really likean expert version of super mario brothers 1 because it has almost the same graphics.itseemslikeagoodgamebecausemariogets to fly andswim inasub!i giveit3 stars cause 1itishard tofirefireballs 2ndwhen you jumpon a koopatheshell [Explodes]!(...)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the finest GB games ever made
Alright, I know there are those with the gripes (can't save, only 12 levels, blah blah blah) but this game is pretty old guys. This game was released in 1989 and there weren't very many games back then that you actually could save on.Second, there are only 12 levels and they're extremely short. You can beat the game in simply 30 minutes. There should be no reason why anyone should have to save at all. It's very easy to rack up several lives thanks to the bonus game that Nintendo threw in as well.

For 1989 and for the early years of the Gameboy these graphics aren't bad. While they look like something seen on a graphing calculator they're not bad considering its age.

The game isn't too hard, but it isn't so easy either. The gameplay is similar to the original Mario Bros. on the NES.Except that you can't tell which power up you've got. That could be a problem.

The game can be played by just about anyone.Sure you can't save but you've got to remember the games AGE!Saving wouldn't become a norm until the early 90's in the day and age of the SNES.

2-0 out of 5 stars No saving?!? 12 levels?!? WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!?
This game kind of let me down.First of all, the graphics stink, but I don't care that much about that.Second of all, you can't save.Sure, the levels have thrilling challenges, but there's no point to them if every time you get a Game Over, you have to play it all over again. And I was pretty surprised when I found out that this game only had 12 levels.Oh well, it looks like Nintendo shaped up after that though, because I like most of the games that they have out today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and innovative!
You may cry: There are only 12 levels. In this game, though, the levels are longer and difficult. It is extremely fun and somewhat like the classic Mario game with the typical Daisy is captured plot. This is just plain good. What else is there to say? ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Well, if Pokémon can catch on in this country, there's no reason why Harvest Moon can't, too. This game takesthe farming-simulation concept from its Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64counterparts and shrinks it down, removing some favorable aspects butincluding many more.

The new version expands on the first Game Boy version, providing abigger world in which to tend your farm. There are also more tasks to doin a given day, such as planting this and milking that, and all of itmust be done at a frantic pace if everything is to be completed. Thepace of the game is what really makes it addicting, but players can alsotake the day off and play minigames, which are fun as well.

The one thing this game lacks is the dating and marriage aspect of theconsole games. This was one of the cutest features of the series, butthere still seems to be enough to warrant a play-through. --RobbGuido

Pros:

  • Seemingly unlimited tasks to complete every day of the game
  • Fun minigames
Cons:
  • No dating for the lead character

4-0 out of 5 stars Harvest Moon 2 Review
This game is so much fun, I can't put it down.I play all day long and it's still entertaining!I think I'm bordering on abseccion!!!!!My son loves it to... he never loses interest in it!The only reason I gave this game an overall of 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of dating.Other than that, this game is perfect!!! Hope you enjoy it to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesomely fun game
Harvest Moon 2 is an insanely fun game, which is pretty surprising, seeing as, well...it's a video game based on a farm. Whoever came up with the idea though, is intelligent.

The game starts off with the mayor of a small town being told that a historic farm will be turned into an amusement park. The mayor takes it upon himself to hire someone to fix up the farm, and make enough profit to save it. That's where you come in. You grow fruits and veggies (every season you get new ones), raise animals once you have enough feed/money, and you can fish and gather berries. Every so often new garden tools, extenions to your farm, or plants are available. But, you only have three years to raise enough money to save the farm.

Harvest Moon 2 is really, really fun, but there's a tick (it might just be in my game though, but I'm not sure) - you can't ever buy chickens. They're cheap, and a major source of money, but every time I go to buy them, the shop owner says I don't have enough feed. (I have the max. capacity of food stored in the silo.)

Overall grade - A

5-0 out of 5 stars As cool as a farming simulation can be!
Harvest moon is a great series. It is about farming. If you don't like wasting time moving around and doing virtual chores, don't get it. That means it is not boring. I bought HM2 once, and played it constantly. I was addicted! Unfortunately, I lost it in a move, and I was drawn here by it's low price without the auctions on eBay. I plan on buying it again. It's that good. If you want a better knowledge of the game, and whether you should get it, try Ushi no Tane. Just search on google or something for Ushi no Tane, which is THE BEST Harvest Moon 2 site I have ever seen. You'll learn anything you need to know there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Harvest moon 2
The game teaches us how to be responsible and take care of things
(too bad there isn't a game on money saving!!!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game, but a little too difficult
It's a great game, like all its predessors. The only problem I've seen is that it is a lot more difficult to make money from your crops. You also have to collect more grass to buy animals.I suggest you buy this game only if you are collecting them, otherwise, you should buy the title for the SNES, N64, Playstation, or PS2.This is because they have far more depth.Such as with the SNES version you can have around ten chickens, while on the gameboy edition you can only have four. ... Editorial Review

Attention, Metal Gear fans: larger-than-life action heroSolid Snake has been shrunk and now dwells inside your Game Boy Color. If you've always wanted to live the life of a secret agent while on thego with your GBC, Metal Gear Solid is the game to own.

Anyone familiar with the PlayStation title of the same name (or theolder Metal Gear game for the original Nintendo EntertainmentSystem) will be familiar with the gameplay. You are Solid Snake andmust rely more on stealth than brute force to sneak through a varietyof enemy-infested levels. The bad guys (and security cameras) have alimited cone of vision, and savvy players will stay out of thedetection zone so they can save their strength for the real challengesthat wait near the end of each level. Controls are simple buteffective. You can lay prone (a good way to disappear into mud or tallgrass), press up against walls, and easily access an inventory screento equip and use items. You'll find a plethora of weapons along theway, perfect for those moments when stealth alone just isn't going tocut it.

The graphics are great, but it's the spot-on accurate control thatmakes this game truly shine. Players are free to practice in nearly 200fun VR missions or can simply jump into the real thing: a 13-levelcampaign, complete with cut scenes. Konami packed an amazing amount ofexcitement into this little cartridge, making it a title no Game BoyColor owner will want to miss. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Nice graphics and animation for a GBC game
  • Much of the gameplay of the PlayStation hit compressed into ahandheld format
Cons:
  • Sometimes the screen just isn't big enough to make the game fair

5-0 out of 5 stars A GBC Masterpiece
Metal Gear Solid on the Gameboy Color is perhaps one of the most innovative the 8-bit handheld had.The game was released a few years ago but this is NOT a re-release of the PSX classic. Actually it only bears the same name. The plot and characters aren't connected to the playstation version in anyway.

Metal Gear Solid makes good use of the GBC's colors. This game is more colorful than a rainbow and the colors are vivid and bright (especially if you play it on a GBA SP).The graphics are also put to good use. It's a reminder of the graphics presented in the first Metal Gear game only you can now move in eight directions as opposed to four and most guards and such look clearer. But you'll definitely notice resemblence.

The game sounds pretty good for an 8 bit game. The music can get annoying at times but it clearly sets up the tone of the game (sneaking).

The game adopts the gameplay from the Playstation version. There is a sneak mode, alert mode and evasion mode.Sneak mode is simply that you just run from point to point without worrying about anything. As with the PSX version you have a radar in the corner of your screen. The radar isn't as detailed but it'll help you stay out of sight.Alert Mode happens if you're discovered by the enemy and so you must run away. Much like in the PSX version there's a countdown in the corner that covers the radar. When you successfully escape the enemy you go into Evasion Mode where you must hide and the enemy will stop chasing you and begin searching for you.Picture evasion mode like a game of hide and seek.

Metal Gear is known for its storytelling and MGS on the GBC is no exception. The game has several plot twist and such but that's just it.The game is full of TONS of twist. The story is great but the way the story is presented to the gamer is not to pleasing. The original playstation version had cinemas to make the storyline more interactive. The GBC has LONG LONG LONG cutscenes of Snake exchaning words with others. This wouldn't be so bad if the cutscenes weren't so long of just two people standing there. The Codec I didn't mind and it showcases more of just how well the graphics of the game are.But even codec conversations get long.If you're really into the story then you probably won't be falling asleep anytime soon.

As far as Extras go this game has a lot of them.Well, there is one HUGE extra. This would be the VR training. Many of the missions come from the PSX game "Metal Gear Solid VR: Missions" and the original MGS game but on the GBC they can be quite challenging. There are over 150 missions but most of them are repeats of earlier missions... only with a twist such as maybe a time limit or you're supposed to eliminate all the guards.Still, the VR missions will keep you busy for a while.

The other extra is after you complete the game once you get a new difficulty level (Very Hard mode).Difficulty levels in this game are NO joke.Unlike the PSX version there are more changes than just guards with wider range of vision. The most noticeable is there are MORE guards than you could possibly imagine on Very Hard mode.

Perhaps what I disliked most about MGS on the GBC was that it didn't have the power to make you love the characters. Many of them are stale without being able to see some emotion. That and some of the supporting characters play no real role in the game they're just there to take up space and carry on long conversations.

Overall though, for the GBC Metal Gear Solid is by far one of the best you could get.

The Good
+Excellent graphics
+Great Storytelling
+Great Gameplay
+Fun VR Missions

The Bad
+LONG LONG LONG Cutscenes
+Supporting characters lack developement and chemistry

5-0 out of 5 stars good game, hard to find
honestly, this was the only gameboy color gme to keep my interest. you could pretty much say it's the NES metal gear with the moves enabled in the playstation metal gear game, the name is the same but it's a completely different game from playstation version. i recommend the game if you can find it...was hard to get even when it was new.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding, I can't believe my eyes
With the blockbuster success of Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, Konami decided to make the game portable for Nintendo's 8-bit GameBoy Color, and while many specualtions over the quality of the game were not very good at all, every GBC owner on the planet was shocked when this was released. For being an 8-bit system, the graphics and sound are simply astounding, and the controls are exact and dead on.Stealth is still the name of the game and you'll have to dodge guards and security cameras to complete your mission, plus VR missions and cut scenes are here as well, making this game play so unbelieveably close to it's PS1 counterpart that many a gamer will be left in awe when they see it in action. The storyline is a prequel to the PS1 game that would set up the events that take place in that game, and while it may start out as a run of the mill story, it quickly picks up and by the time you finish the game you'll be catching your breathe. All in all, Metal Gear Solid is essential to action fans and GBC owners everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic for GBC
I must say this beforehand: this is a game that takes place BEFORE the Shadow Moses Incident (The conflict in the PSX version of MGS). That said, this is a different storyline than on that console.

In the game, you play as super-agent Solid Snake, who is kidnapped out of retirement to infiltrate a terrorist base in the (fictional) country of Gindra. The terrorists have a huge weapon called Metal Gear that has nuclear capability (Imagine a very fat person with guns for arms, make him a robot, then stretch him out so that he's 80 feet tall, and you've got an idea of what Metal Gear looks like). Snake's mission: to destroyMetal Gear and to rescue any hostages. The story after that is very engaging and interesting, especially when everything hits the fan at the end.

Unlike other action games, which play like a Schwartzenager movie, MGS forces you to keep yourself hidden from the enemy, and also to keep quiet so that the scumbags can't hear you. The level design keeps players on their toes and on the brink of insanity from the suspense of hiding from an aproaching guard, especially on the Hard and Very Hard difficulty levels.

For Game Boy Color, the graphics are superb, but the sound might grind on ears used to the advanced stuff on the GBA. Even so, the last few themes are catchy. The gameplay practically grabs you by the collar and demands that you play. It's that addictive. The fact that there's an unlockable "special" Stage Select mode that allows you to revisit previous stages with a mission other than reaching the goal makes you want to search for other goodies.

As usual, the guards are entertainingly near-sighted (But don't get close to them if they're facing you!) and stupid(Knock 'em out, and they just take a quick look around before going back to their patrol routes), and the bosses are fun to fight. The Metal Gear is a truly hard final boss, though there is an "extra" battle atthe end that is intense, if not hard.

Speaking of intensity: the second boss, Marionette Owl, describes his sister's death in morbid detail, and also uses the dead bodies of two women as puppets. Other just as disturbing cases happen with the bosses, so a parent might not want his/her child playing this unless he/she is twelve or older. Even so, it's a great game--a must-buy for action gamers everywhere.

P.S. Play this with headphones. I can barely hear the sound without them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Metal Gear, the best it can be with the technology at hand
Considering that this game came out after the tremendous PSX hit Metal Gear Solid, the Game Boy version isn't bad at all. As a matter of fact, its great! With a whole lot of VR Missions, a complex set of stages, stealth action, a complete arsenal of weapons, and so much more, this game is one of the best for Game Boy Color. Konami did a wonderful job in moving a PSX game, to Game Boy. This Metal Gear Solid though is not a recreation of the Playstation one. It has an entirely different story line, new characters, new bosses, basically new everything. To sum it all up, Metal Gear Solid for Game Boy Color is a wonderful game that ranks very high on the all time greatest Game Boy Color games. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Digimon Game of the Year
This game is excelent. Sure you don't get many characters but the special attacks will blow your mind! ExLobomon is the best character to me. The mini-game (digimon shoot) is really challenging and the game is still a little hard on easy mode. There is always something to do. I'm trying to get the legendary tamer tag right now. Anywho, can't wait until Digimon: racing comes out.

This game is okay. If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings and/or Action-RPG games then you might like it. Otherwise skip this game. The features, such as 5 characters and 100 levels sounds cool, but the game gets monotonous and very boring if played more than 15 minutes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, but the character selsction sucks
This is a fun game, but why Eowyn? Why not Sam, or Gimli. This game would be awsome if the character selection was more like the ps2 version.

5-0 out of 5 stars skull smashing
well I dont like that you can only swing your blade one time instead of combos. But this is a fun game to play even if you dont like LOTR you will enjoy it.You can also play as Gandalf,
Aragon,Legolas,Frodo, and Edowyn.Creatures pop up out of nowhere
and it gets you excited. You can pick up items such as super
swords or strong bows and equip them with your person.
You go up levels in the game by how many you kill and you
collect gems and use them to buy upgrade points.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good game with a decent difficulty
This is a classic. As a devout LOTR fan, I was looking at LOTR stuff when I saw 'The Return of the King for GBA!'. I bought it after carefully reading reviews for FOTR, TT, and ROTK. Seeing that FOTR was not very popular and ROTK was declared "too hard" by many, I settled for TT. I'm glad I did.

TT is a solid game that runs pretty much along the story line (no Merry or Pippin!?). It is entertaining for those long car rides and if neither too difficult nor too easy. There are five different characters to choose from that employ a variety of strategies and tactics. You can be Legolas for the sniping attack, Aragorn for the hand-to-hand melee, Eowyn or Frodo for hit-and-run, and Gandalf, who can do just about everything.

I really enjoy this game and think it was worth every penny. It will keep the gamer occupied for quite a while and isn't too frustrating when you have to start over. ... Read more

Mega Man: Battle Network is not the side-scrolling game that fanshave grown up with, but rather an isometric, role-playing adventure game. Forthose cringing at this evolution, don't despair--with an amazing real-timebattle system, this game should appease even die-hard platform-shooter fans.

In the near future, the Net is connected to virtually everything--from computersto office water coolers. An evil group is bent on dominating the world bycorrupting the Net with viruses. You play as Lan, a young hacker, who must stopthis threat with the help of his virus-busting program (and best friend) MegaMan.exe.

Lan can walk up to just about any object and either use it or get someinteresting (and often funny) information about it. In fact, this kind ofexploration is necessary, because there are Net jacks in the strangestplaces--even a doghouse. And while Mega Man.exe is deployed fighting viruses on the Net,you often have to go out and collect clues in the real world. This teamwork addssome refreshing complexity to the game.

Fans of Pokémon will like the battle chip system. Finding chips andupgrading Mega Man.exe is the name of the game, enabling the program to unleashmore powerful attacks. Battle chips can be sold, traded, and combined intorarer, more powerful chips. In addition, you can link up with a friend and tradechips, or battle for them.

The game's best element, however, is its battle system. Battles occur in realtime, with fast arcade action. Mega Man.exe can lob bombs, shoot his hallmarkcannon, summon other virus-busting programs to his aid, and more--depending onwhich of the 175 battle chips you find and deploy in battle.

Mega Man: Battle Network is a solid performer, but its story is geared toa younger crowd. Still, there's plenty here to satisfy fans of the series.--Bryan Karsh

Pros:

  • Amazing real-time battle system
  • Trade chips via link cable, or fight for them against a friend's copy of thegame
  • Interactive world in which almost every object has a purpose
Cons:
  • Story line might be too childish for older players

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun
Mega Man Battlew Network for the GBA is a nice game that is unlike most Mega Man games. In this Mega Man game, you fight on a grid with you on one side and the enemy on another side. On this grid, you can fire as many shots as you want and can choose a special card from a group to use. This is quite fun and most people should enjoy it. When not in battle, you can move around freely and talk to people. You can fight some of the PETs of these people. The plot is pretty basic though there is a small twist. When hooked to the net, you can get into random battles and earn money. There is also a small RPG element present. You can earn upgrades to Mega Man and improve his health, attack, etc. The only problem is that the game can become frustrating if you cannot find out where to go next.

4-0 out of 5 stars megaman rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, megaman battle network 1 is one of the better games in the series (of course i didn't get to the end of the game but i got pretty darn far). there's many places to jack in, such as lan,s security system (shaped like a doghouse). Many tough bosses such as stoneman. any way you flip the pancake this game is awesome so might i be the first to say jack in!
Megaman,Excecute!

5-0 out of 5 stars Megaman's first rpg is......a complete success!!
The blue bomber is back in a whole new adventure on the game boy advance but this time he has broken out of his signuture side scrolling action platformer format and has taken on the card battling rpg format???? Well before you megaman fans start yelling listen and read this review to find that this is one of the blue bombers greatest adventures yet.

Gameplay 10/10
Alright the gameplay is quite strange for Megaman so listin up you switch between Lan (a human kid in the real world) and Megaman EXE (Megaman's newest form a netnavi who goes through cyber space kicking (...)) now in the real world you as Lan go through a normal life in his futuristic world where everything is run by computers but this means viruses are much more in number and can be deadly so it's up to Lan to take Megaman to the electronic device that needs viruses cleared out of it or hostile netnavis as Megaman you use battle chips (microchips that give him weapons and abilities) you can get these through a turn based system a meter fills up and when it does you pick which chip out of five that you randomly pulled (kinda like your hand in a card game) but you are not limited to pulling just one chip per turn you can also make combos by pulling more than one of the same kind of chip of by pulling two chips of the same code. A code is put on the bottom of each chip two chips that have a H code can be played in the same turn even if they aren't the same kind of chip and chips that are the same can be played together even if they are not of identical code by the way new chips (which there are 175) can be obtain from detroying viruses for example if you detroy a dash virus you may get his chip depending on what kind of busting level you get busting level is a rank system which goes from 1-10 and S and you have a better chance of getting a chip if you get a 10 rank rather than a 5 now after you have selected your chips you can fight the viruses in a 3D battle arena which is split up into 18 panels 9 blue panels and 9 red panels you stand on the blue and cannot cross on to the red and and the same applies for you foes on the red you move about dogding attacks while launching your own its strange for Megaman but it works very well aside from battling in cyberspace you will also explore and solve puzzles many of which require you to be both Lan and Megaman to solve them example in cyberspace there is alocked door but it has a passnumber it is based on how many chairs are in Lans classroom in the real world therefore you must become Lan to solve the puzzle. A way this is a rpg is that Megaman can level up but not through exp points he levels up by finding upgrade items such as HPmemories which raises your overall HP (you start with 100) and Powerups which raise your power rapid and charge up powers of your buster these upgrades can be found in various areas of cyberspace or the real world or by buying them from merchants speaking of exploring that is another great thing about this game you can explore areas of cyberspace in just about anything electronic such as vending machines, game systems, tvs, and the most expansive area the internet but you can still explore the real world and interact with the people in the various towns particapate in netbattles where Megaman fights their netnavi and trade battle chips noy to mention while exploring you can try to get all the battle chips in the game. Also old fans will reconize old bosses reborn in this game such as Bombman Iceman Elecman and Protoman.

Story 10/10
The story begins as you are put into the role of Lan a 5th grader kid who is off to school in his futuristic world that is run completly by computers because of this viruses are larger in numbers and more deadly so much so that destroying them with your netnavi example Megaman is a big course in school on the way to school Lan walks with his freind Mayl who begins to tell him of a hacking net crime organization the world 3 or WWW that is becoming more know throughout the story Lan and Megaman Battle the WWW to stop their evil plans but unlike old Megaman games you don't just pick a boss stage and go there you fight WWW as events unfold in the game.

Bottom Line 10/10
It will take you at long time to master this game trying to find all the battle chips reaching level 100 and battling WWW will keep you busy for quite awhile.

3-0 out of 5 stars A More Realistic Review
I believe for every review made by a person for another person should have an overview of the reviewers characteristic and "definition" of a good game for him/her.

I like RPG's but am good in all games. I define a good game by the right mixtures: Originality, Game Quality, Easy To Get Use to and Control, Action Type, Objective Settings, and so on. I'll make this clear and precise as possible. Please take note this is my OPINION, you might think different.

Good Things:
-The game is nice if you're bored of the same old pokemon games and their battling techniques.
-The games texture and graphics are a good improvement from other GBA games.
-The game is long and challenging.

Bad Things:
-The game can become extremely frustrating. Why? Many reasons.

1.Whenever you enter the net, you come across viruses or enemies, to make it simple. They are challenging at first, but in the later stages when you become powerful, they are just plain annoying, especially when you're trying to accomplish long, tedious missions given to you by the game. You must have an escape chip to actually escape! You can only hold 30 chips in your "moves" folder. So if you have, for example, 2, your chances of getting them and escaping battles you don't want is 2/30. You get 5 chips per turn that you skip and press ADD during your chip selection. Think about it.

2.The cost of items in this game is way too high, in my opinion. As a player in a RPG game, you would like to improve your weapons so you can defeat your enemies faster/easier right? Well, try to when it takes 10,000zens just to get one M Cannon, which does 120 damage. The common later viruses have like 200hp. The beginning bosses are about 600+. Therefore you need more than 1 powerful chip. How long would it take? Say forever?

3.Oh yeah, chip combos are made by putting same letter chips together. Example, two different chips with the letter L next to it, say Cannon Chip L and Dash Chip L. You can select it both at once and use it without the need to wait for the bar to fill up to select more chips. Its really hard to make the combos and play fast when you gotta check out the letters next to each chip to see if you can play it together. The letter range is long!

4.The missions are nice, IF YOU KNOW HOW TO GET IT! They seem to expect you to know exactly where to go. Well they don't Mr.Creator! Therefore, what you either do is get FAQS or wonder around, mindlessly and extremely frustrated, until you find where you need to go. Got Milk?

5.The only real fun is raising Megaman, upgrading him which is hell, and fighting the bosses and people with powerful P.E.Ts. Megaman is a PET. This is where it *beeped* up. Its usually rare or it takes a horribly ammount of time and work to finally encounter those few people. The rest of the game is filled with viruses that aren't challenging and you can't simply escape easily.

Here's a clue for everyone. Why buy when you can get it for free? HAHAHA.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty cool
As of 2002, Mega Man has been around for 15 years. Needless to say, the little guy has been quite prolific, hopping deftly from game platform to platform and bravely exploring and acquiring the skills of new genres. Aside from numerous action outings, the Blue Bomber has raced carts, played soccer, and has even entered a few fighting tournaments. After testing the waters in the Legends series, Mega Man has donned an .exe file extension and entered the Battle Network in a traditional RPG for the Game Boy Advance. Battle Network is the story of a boy and his PET. In the year 20XX, humankind has entered the "network age." To navigate this high-tech world, it has become necessary for every man, woman, and child to carry portable exploration devices known as PETs. Each PET has a personality which manifests in the form of a Net navi. These trusty digital assistants help you navigate the Net, check your e-mail, and battle against malicious code. After deleting a nasty virus from his oven, which charred his breakfast and very nearly his own mother, fifth grader Lan and his best friend/Net navi Mega Man begin to investigate the nefarious WWW organization. While Lan searches the real world for clues, he'll be able to jack in to various computers and electronic devices. In the cyberworld, Mega Man takes over the active role. As Mega Man, you'll be able to do a bit of online shopping to upgrade your battle capabilities, visit your friends' computers, and do a liberal amount of virus busting.
Whether you're controlling Mega Man or Lan, you'll be able to talk to the character you're not currently playing as for direction and support. When you're at a loss as to where to go or what to do, your partner should be able to provide at least a vague idea of what you should be doing. At certain points, you'll have to switch control back and forth to accomplish your goal. For instance, Lan may have to reboot a crashed computer to open up the way for Mega Man. The battle system of Battle Network is probably its most original and compelling feature. Unlike in a traditional RPG, skill is a primary factor here. Mega Man does gain levels by installing upgrade programs to increase hit points and attack power, but in true Mega Man tradition, quick reflexes and recognizing attack patterns can take you far. Battles take place on a 3-by-8 grid, initially split in two, dividing your area from the enemy's. You and the enemy will move and attack in real time, which results in fast-paced but strategic encounters.
In addition to his tried-and-true buster arm, Mega Man will use battle chips to aid him in battle. Each has a different range and effect. He will have a multitude of damage-dealing chips, such as spreader and longsword, as well as chips that can steal or destroy tiles, recover life, or even call in another navi for help. You initially start with five chips randomly chosen from your folder, and when the battle gauge at the top of the screen is full, you will receive more battle chips. As in a card battle game, collecting new chips and managing your folder will give you an edge in battle. Choosing chips with similar names or codes can allow you to use more than one chip at a time or perform powerful special attacks. New battle chips can be traded, rewarded for efficient deletion of enemies, or found online. The game's battle system aptly captures the essence of Mega Man, and so does the colorful visual style. The boy in blue himself has been smartly redesigned, as have other classic characters like Roll, Guts Man, and Proto Man. There are an abundance of visual and verbal references that fans will immediately pick up on, and the accompanying music matches up just as well as the visuals. Largely due to the battle system, the game is quite engaging and is in many ways unique among RPGs. If there's something that might hold you back from enjoying the game, it's the lighthearted and somewhat goofy story. However, the game doesn't take itself too seriously, so neither should you. Filling your folder with rare and powerful battle chips, battling against Net crime, and reveling in the silliness of the "network age" can make for a very worthwhile gaming experience. ... There should be another version of this game which features a mode similar to story mode in which you assume the role of villians, not good guys. It should also have movie modes where you can be good and/or bad which allows you to play through sagas from movies such as "Tree of Might".

The game is great(for those who know how to play). Beam attacks work best on an opponent when in the air, so if you dont want to get killled by one, do avoiding or get on the ground. Now, for what I REALLY wanted to say. There should be another version of this game which features a mode similar to story mode in which you assume the role of villians, not good guys. It should also have movie modes where you can be good and/or bad which allows you to play through sagas from movies such as "Tree of Might".

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragon Ball faithfully
This game is hard, but it's kick-(...).It follows the whole storyline of the series. From Piccolo training little Gohan all the way to Majin Buu.It's like all fighting games, except you draw certain "cards" allowing your player to do certain moves. It's awesome.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bleh
What's with all these oh it's [SO] good and sweet and tight and awesome and incredible reviews? This game is pretty much only beaten in... "horribleness" by LOG. The only attacks which do any real damage are Vegeta's final explosion, final flash, big bang, and the other characters super moves. Super Kamehameha, not just regular Kamehameha. 3-6 stage attacks do about 3% damage to the enemy. Kamehameha can do pretty much anywhere from 7% to 13% damage to the enemy. The game also goes incredibly [SLOW]! It takes forever to get to your next attack phase and by then you're dead because the enemy can use their super attacks whenever they feel like it and they always ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do more damage to you than you do to them and they CONSTANTLY dodge, block, or counter your attacks while you NEVER do. Sure it goes from saiyan saga to kid buu saga but, well, blah. What's the point of leveling up anyways? I have Vegito to lvl 5, the "highest" level in the game. (What's with THAT?!) And used all his power-ups on strength but he does about the same as like gohan at lvl 1. This game also gives you massive headaches and I wouldn't reccomend playing this game unless you're watching TV or doing something else to keep your mind occupied while the horrible slow enemy turns pass. Might as well shut it off after the first turn because you're dead anyways. I sold mine 2 weeks after getting it. For 10 bucks too. Buy Super Sonic Warriors. Now THAT'S a good game! Or LOG2, WAY better than LOG1 and certainly better than this thing. Bleeeh! I'm out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Woah?!?................
Ok I got this game 2 christmases ago and must say Im so dissapointed!!!!!The idea is dumb, youuse battle cards and all you do is wait to be pulvarized by the impossible bosses and can like never use your special attack. The graphics suck and the battle idea is stupid.I have never wrote a bad DBZ review but this one.I wouldnt spend a dollar on it.Just get taiketsu instead thats much better. If you want a good Ps2 game get budokai2.Trust me I guarentee youll not like this game. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Frogger with plenty of style
I really like this game. The graphics are cool.Actually my favorite part are the characters. It starts off a little slow but once it gets going, it's hard to put down. The levels are really neat. It's classic Frogger but with a twist. It has cool hidden stuff sort of like Animal Crossing. The grappling hook and other stuff that Opart can do are cool.It gives Frogger cool new abilities. So far, it's pretty fun.I recommend it to anyone that likes Frogger and puzzle style games. ... Amazon.com Review

Who would have thought a new Game Boy Color game, based on an anime series, could be this original and fun for all ages? Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite! is a surprisingly good game. You play as Hamtaro, a cute hamster. Your mission is simple: Bring 12 of your Ham-Ham (or hamster) friends back to the Ham-Ham clubhouse, where Boss--the head hamster--has a surprise for everyone.

But how do you convince your Ham-Ham friends to come back with you to the clubhouse? With Ham-Chat, the secret hamster language around which the whole game revolves. Each new Ham-Chat word lets you perform new actions. You can say hi to other hamsters, apologize to them, or compliment them. You can also learn special words that allow you to perform special actions, such as digging holes, doing summersaults, or climbing. But the best part of Ham-Chat is that each word is associated with a move, so when you go to the clubhouse's dance room, you can link your Ham-Chat words together and Ham-Jam. With a link cable, you can trade your dance with friends.

You can buy 30 different outfits for Hamtaro and try stuff on back at the clubhouse. You can take a photo that can be displayed in the room and on the title screen, and as you play the game, new places within Hamtaro's neighborhood become accessible. All of this makes a great game that children will love, especially those who are fans of the show. Some adults may find it too cute to resist, too. --Bryan Karsh

Pros:

  • Some of the best Game Boy Color graphics you're likely to see
  • Make your own dances
  • Take pictures of Hamtaro
  • Explore Hamtaro's neighborhood
Cons:
  • You can't transfer dances to Game Boy Advance

This game is fun and can be challenging but in all it is one of the best games I've played. I'm a huge fan of Hamtaro and played every game but Rainbow Rescue and I hope I can get that one soon. This is a really fun game where you can meet ham hams but also you need to find your ham ham pals so you can bring them to the clubhouse and find out the big surprise!

2-0 out of 5 stars A complete waste of potentional: easy, simple, and formulaic
I've come to expect many strategy games to be hard at first. I had to start Final Fantasy Tactics over a few times just because I couldn't make the right armies. Certain battles, like the one with that Wiegraf guy, were downright frustrating. But I think they were necessary, because they made the game feel that much more epic.

About the bad parts of the game... This game doesn't seem to challenge me in the least. As the game progresses you get more and more genma stones. This is fine, just you don't get enough souls to upgrade the equipment you make. The whole thing about the game is you are suppose to pick what kind of characters you like and give them cool looking armor. There are not enough varities of armor and weaponry to make the genma stone thing seem rewarding.

What's good? Well, the game is simple enough that small decisions will not ruin you. In Final Fantasy Tactics, attacking someone's side rather than their back can cost you the game. In Onimusha Tactics, attacking a monster's side is like attacking his front or back. It's the same thing. The characters are diverse, yet there is little to no character developement. Honestly? I don't think I care anymore as I've seen practically every character possible known to man. I've seen the strong silent type, the lone vagrant, and the cautious samurai. At times I get annoyed with the game because it seems like every other battle, a new character is thrown into my party and I don't even want to know the person. Sometime, certain characters who you forgot were in your party will say a line like, "This land is fertile, it will be the perfect battleground." And you will have to remember how that guy got in your party. The thing is though, I've come to expect cliches, and I'm glad that I don't need to play with characters I don't care about.

And now for the ugly... You can't backtrack. Once you visit a location you are not going to go there again. There are no towns. If you want to earn some extra souls, forget it. You can't even customize equipment outside of battle. If you want to customize your characters, you have to do it when you are picking them for the next battle. Even worst, some of the characters in your party look cool, but have terrible movement rates. I'd love to play with Ekei, but he barely moves across the map compared to my other characters. I'd also love to play with that ninja girl, but she does so little damage and has so little health that she wastes space. The one thing that annoys me more than anything is the issen command. Occasionaly your character will get issen. This this basically takes the place of the "done" command. You can move around but you can't do any commands other than that. The whole premise of issen is that you set it up, and, during the enemy's turn, if a monster attacks you, you will counter it. This doesn't work if the monster uses a special move. The problem is, THE MONSTERS ALWAYS USE THEIR SPECIAL MOVES! Bosses have like 200special points, and their special moves consume 5 points. Throughout the entire game, I can only remember having a successful issen 2 times. TWO TIMES! One was during the training, and the second was when I was messing around in the Phantom Realm against level 5 monsters. The Phantom Realm is a place where you can try to progress through various floors(like the Onimusha games on playstation) without healing. It would be great, but you have to fight through the crappy levels each time you play it, and those take a while, even though they are easy.

I had fun playing this game, but with contenders like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem, and Advance Wars, this game just doesn't present anything new in the genre. If anything, it is much more simpler than it should be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect
This was the absolute best game ever! It had everything I wanted! RPG with a ton of characters to manage some comedy some drama and a lot of action! You get to build and upgrade weapons by collectng Genma stones and Genma souls! I would recommend this game to anyone. It's a must by for Samurai fans and sword hack n' slash fans and magic using fans and throwing those ninja thingies with points fans and comedy fans and . . . okay this is getting long that's it

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Pleasant!
Okay so in lieu of FF-Tactics (FFT), Red Emblem (RE), and Tactics Ogre (TO), Onimusha Tactics (OT) doesn't offer much in game play. But, what it does offer it offers WELL - and that's simplicity! You never guessed how much you [the gamer] have trained your brain to tolerate complex interfaces, intricate battle sequences, and inane superflousous features until you've played games like the aforementioned. ::stares at FFT!::

Seriously, OT doesn't do anything that FFT, TO, or RE hasn't done already and 100 times betters. BUT, OT is a necessary reminder that games don't have to get 'crazy' with interfaces and complex storylines. In fact, that's its strength!

Cons:
Game play is a watered down version of FFT and TO.The storyline is straight forward and LINEAR, and the introduction of "out-of-left-field-characters-that-you-didn't-know-existed-whom-come-into-the-picture-arbitrarily" takes away depth.Music is mediocre, and the graphics are sprite like - can't really mess THAT up. :)And, it has poor player development. You can't backtrack, and you can't explore the world.

Pros:
So, what's so good about OT?Visually beautiful (especially the handpainted character shots), tricky/cunning AI (at times), simple interface (this means a lot ppl, trust me), culturally DIFFERENT setting (i.e. story takes place IN Japan - how many games do you see that???), interesting story telling style (not to be confused with the actual storyline - OT uses a non-conviential way of telling a story and putting you in the action. It's like a cartoon.), and an overslimplified way of obtaining and upgrading weapons, armors, and items!

IMHO, you have to look at OT like this:You're in, you're out, and you're done! That's it.Don't look to this game for intricate battle systems and complex boards, bosses or whatever.Look to this game as an oasis, a vacation spot, away from the hectic and detailed nature of other games like its kind.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple, yet fun.
Though it is not near as complex as Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, Onimusha Tactics hits home for those who like tactics based games. Unlike the other two titles mentioned, Onimusha Tactics does not penalize/reward side or back attacks, which makes fighting a little bland. Another flaw it has is that you're stuck on a storyline, there is no backtracking or random battles at all, its purely level based. Even though, it still is a good game, and deserves a playthrough. Just don't expect a complex system of levels and classes. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Pleasent Suprise from Majesco!
I had heard about Iridion (the first) and didn't really feel like getting it. I had heard that you couldn't see where you were aiming shots and many negative things. I didn't really expect Iridion 2 to be much better...but believe me...I was wrong...
-----------------------
Storyline = 3.5/5 Aliens are invading, just like 100 years
ago. Can YOU save the world?

Graphics= 4.5/5 Very well done. Gives out a 3D feel, but
not annoyingly like Iridion 1

Interest= 3/5 This was a definate weak-spot of Iridion
2, it doesn't keep you're interest. It's
fun, but the whole type of play is the
same all game. It gets boring eventually.

Reccomend = 3.7/5 I don't think this is the best game I've
ever seen. They did the best they could,
but it's the same thing again and again.
-----------------------

Overall, this game was pretty good. But, like I said, it gets boring after awhile. It's not your average StarFox game (which are great), but it's not you're average Barney game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what the GBA needed!
Iridion 2 is one of the best shooters I've played in some time.Although the Gradius-style endless upgrades aren't present (I'm a sucker for an inhumanly long trail of entities mimicking my movement and firing patterns, what can I say?), the system employed in I2 is very well-done.At the beginning of the level, you choose which one of six weapons you wish to use. This weapon begins at level 1 (of 3 maximum), while all the other 5 weapons begin at level "0" (must use a powerup to activate level 1 of the desired weapon.)Even at level 1, your ship always has access to a charge-up shot (double tap the firing button) which is much, much more powerful and can form combo attacks.Using a powerup on a maxed out weapon instead replenishes 50% of your ships shield bar, and since they can be saved up, work as energy tanks in times of crisis (e.g. the final boss). The only real grumble is the unbalanced nature of the weapons. While the Plasma Cannon and the Bouncing Blue Balls (read with a clean mind, I command it) are awesome in just about any level, the semi-homing green lasers are just pitiful, not to mention the 4-directional shot. This can be looked at as a way to add challenge, and I personally chose a different weapon every level to keep the game fresh. The most unnecessary addition, in my opinion, is the smartbomb, which really tones the difficulty down quite a lot.3 smartbombs can kill just about any boss, and I never really used them.

The gameplay, while fantastic, wasn't the main selling point for me.Although very well-adjusted in terms of difficulty, the music and sound were beyong top-notch.Veteran GBA composer Manfred Linzner (who, if I read the credits right, did a fair share of programming too) turns out another beautiful soundtrack, with an 80's-techno feel that just plain works with this game. The ever popular track "Cloudy Stairway" has returned from the original (easily my favorite track from I3D), and the music is just perfect for the ambience Shin'en wanted to create with this little number. The sound effects are also very well intergrated, and don't break the music (fans of NES shooters should know exactly what I'm talking about) or halt certain tracks to any noticible degree.

Finally, the challenge. It's challenging!Even on Starter Pilot (TURN AUTO-UPGRADE OFF!) the first level will probably take a life or two.The learning curve is pretty steep, with the second set of galaxies boasting a formidable challenge and the levels only picking up from there. The bosses are pretty easy, with the occaisional 3 or 4 who will get you a few times.

All in all, it's a great game with another, albeit different from the original, well-crafted faux-3D engine. The GBA continues to show us new and better ways to duplicate arcade experience, and if Iridion 2 is evident of a perminant "raising of the bar", I say bring on 3, and bring it soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic game!
Wow, this game is dope. Its a shoot-em-up type of game, you fly one of two future flying machines and shoot away in futuristic setting. The graphics is super awesome, best I've seen for GBA. The sound/music is great too! The control and variety of weapons is solid. The gameplay is totally awesome and fast! It feels like you are playing a REAL flying arcade shooting game, HUGE feeling from the tiny GBA, WOW! It feels 3-D even though its a 2-D game. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
This game is way better than the original Iridion. The graphics have improved which Iridion's were still wonderful. The style of the game has changed a little bit.The view is above the ship, and you can move side to side and forward and backwards, the guns upgrade to massive shooting range. The storyline is very good, but seems to stay the same with the general telling you that the "evil iridion empire is on the planet . . . " then you have to go fight on that planet. When the game is beaten, there is still more to do.An area in the game allows you to complete one level with one life and try to get the highest score possible. After you beat the level, then a code is given to you to put on the website given. You will then be ranked among other people all over the world. This is a very good game and for the price i would certainly get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Action
Wow! This is a great sequel to the not-so-good Iridion 3D. The point of view is now above/rear the ship, and the gameplay really rocks!
You'll have to face 5 galaxies of 3 planets each. Each planet sports one mid-level boss and one end level boss, each with his own patterns of attack.
You can choose from 3 levels of difficulty. While easiest is really easy (I've finished the game in one afternoon) the medium one is quite challenging.
Playing the game you'll unlock new game modes, like "Challenge" that puts you against all the Bosses, one after the other.
Graphics is very good. Colorful, clean and bright, so it's not a problem playing this game on a non-SP GBA.
I suggest this game to everyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovin it
I love this game. if you ask me its the best game for GBC. i love it

Its sooooooooo awsome!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Son Of Super Mario Bros. 3 And Super Mario Land
WOW, I love this game.It is the best non-colorized portable Mario side-scroller I have ever played. This is one of the best game boy action games out there, along with donkey kong land 1-3, Metroid II, The Kirby games, and others. The rabbit ears kick but and I love the space zone.

Graphics-4/5, almost like black-and-white super mario world.

Play Control-5/5, Extremely Tight, and not too complex.

Game Design-4/5, It would be perfect, but it lacks an ice zone or a desert zone. It's a bit short compared to, oh say, Super Mario World, but it has high replay value.Hidden Levels too!

Satisfaction-6/5 Expert players may beat it in a week or two, but you want to play this forever!!!!!!!!!!

Sound-4/5- The Sound is almost as good as SMB3's, but the music isn't perfect, but for a game boy game, it's fairly solid.

the good- cool enemies, powers, levels. great replay value.

the bad- it's a tad short.

the ugly- The Three Little Pigs and Wario.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the first one.
Super Mario Land 2 is way better than its first one.In this "retro review" we're going to look at what made this one of the best GB games of its time (but too bad just a year later we'd get "The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening").

The graphics were a major step above the first one and were actually stunning visuals for the GB. They look ALMOST like a snazzy early SNES game.

Gameplay actually very closely resembles Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. You've got your power ups that unlike the first Super Mario Land can actually TELL you grabbed them. The Flower Power up and the Bunny Ears (only seen in this one) are nice. The Bunny Ears is like the leaf in SMB3. Except that Mario can't fly but they allow him to glide down to safety.

The music is great for its time and even now it isn't bad. It's been about 11 years since its release and the tunes still play out in my head at times.

The Map is used in this one as well.Except you can't go and challenge old bosses which kind of stinks.

The story follows that Mario has lost his castle to Wario (no saving Princess Daisy in this one) and he can only get back into his castel using the six golden coins so he must set out to find them in one of the six different "Zones."What's nice about this is that you aren't forced to take the zones in any specific order at all! What's not to like about that. However, if you get a game over you have to find all six coins again.

For those whinning about no saving on Super Mario Land you can finally stop your bitchin' because this game incorporates an auto-save feature. It works well but there are moments where the game will erase the data on its own.

Overall this is still a worthwhile game even so many years later.Grab this game if you can and see what happens!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's 2003 and this game still kicks...
A fine sequel to "Super Mario Land," this game, upon its release, boasted incredible graphics and superior sound.Even today, this game is terrific. The controls are innovative and fun, and there's one entire level in homage to the Balloon Trip mode of the old game "Balloon Fight."And let's not forget that this game introduced Nintendo's latest villain-franchise, Wario. The replay value is incredible, and the graphics look great colorized.I still play this game, and even my boyfriend borrowed it for a while for his SP.Again, this game isn't quite Metroid II or Link's Awakening, but it's right on up there.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best gameboy game

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Game, lots of fun
Great game, I've been reading Justice League on comic for a long time. My kid, who is 5 years old, watch JL on cartoon network, he loves it. His favorite is Batman, we gave him this game on Christmas and he loves it. As a matter of fact, now we both fight for the game boy to play the game. It's a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Justice League: Chronicles
My son, Jonathan, is five years old.He is a fan of the Justice League cartoon series and he loves this game.I asked him his favorite part, and he said when he fights against the evil versions of Superman, Hawk Girl and Wonder Woman, and when he fights the evil Grodd. As he does not read yet, he does not like the fact that there are parts that require reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FUN !!!
We got this game for my 5 yr old son for Christmas as he loves the television show!!He absolutely love the game and never tires of playing it!! It was definately worth the money and my sons friends all love playing it too.As a matter of fact I finally sat down to play the game and found my 5 yr old instructing me on how to do the special feature moves with the extra buttons.I also have teenage brothers and sisters and they were absolutely in love with the game too.I would say the game would normally be for a bit older than 5 yrs old though because my son is already very computer literate and can read completly, this is why he is able to handle it so easily. There are words on the screen they need to read or have read to them in order to do the games.

4-0 out of 5 stars Justice League game - lots of fun
We got our 4 year old son a Gameboy Advance SP for Christmas and since he LOVES the justice league we got this game for him.I was a little concerned that either the Gameboy or the game itself would be too advanced for him but he is loving it.It did not take a lot of time at all for him to master the controls. There are screens that show dialog we have to read to him but when he is playing he is completely absorbed and he is having a wonderful time.

Not sure how this compares to other Gameboy games since this is our first one but our son loves it.We have to wrestle the game away from him and he has been very well behaved knowing if he is not, then he will not be allowed to play.We are really glad we bought the Gameboy and this game.We will be trying other games. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This game is awful! Absolutly, positively DON'T buy it.
I own the first three Spyro games and when this one came out I coudn't wait to get it. However, I made a serios mistake. Spyro can't move very well, and you die the second you come near water, which I think is terrible seeing as this game is supposed to take place AFTER he learned to swim. This game has bad graphics, annoying speedways and Sparx levels, and can't show elevation. As a general rule, everything looks completly flat so when you go to make a glide, you find out the place you're gliding to is too high. Furthermore, enemies with missles and fireworks take about two seconds aiming at you then they just blow you up. In conclusion NEVER, EVER buy this game!

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying!
I have all the Spyro games for PS1 & PS2, and I LOVE them, so when I got my GBA I bought Season Of Ice right away....and was very annoyed. At first I thought it would be cool, because there are fairies and mermaids, but the controls are much more difficult on the GBA than the Playstations.I have trouble getting Spyro to go the direction I want him to, especially on diagonals.I think it's because you're using directional buttons instead of a joystick.I don't think it can be the fault of the button on my individual GBA, because I bought it brand new and this is one of the first games I've played on it.Anyway, I have trouble crossing bridges and just moving around in general; it makes it incredibly obnoxious, because every time you fall in water you die.I say, if you have a Game Cube and a Game Boy Player (so you can use a joystick) this could be a great game, but if you just have a GBA, don't bother, it's more frustrating than it's worth.

2-0 out of 5 stars A frustrating let-down
OK, first of all, I have the 3 original Spyro games for Playstation, and I love them, so when I got my GBA, I immediately bought this Spyro game and the second one, Season of Fire. I haven't played the second one yet, but I'm almost afraid to, because this one was so disappointing. The graphics are great, I'll give you that, but that's about where it ends. The gameplay is horrible, like others have said. The controls seem to be opposite of what I would expect, and charging always makes my arm ache from trying to control him in tight turns. Also, the fact that you die if you put your toe in a puddle is really annoying, especially since the storyline shows that it's supposed to be after Spyro learned to swim. The most frustrating level so far for me is the hummingbird port, where you have to glide to different platforms, most of which you can't see without moving the camera to search for them, and all of them are impossible to tell which are above and which are below you. I've found that a basic rule is that if it looks higher, it's below you, and if it looks lower, then it's above you. I gave up on that level when I couldn't find any more sections to go to, and just kept going in circles. I do like the speedways, and also Sparx's worlds, but that's not quite enough to off-set the frustration from the other levels. It probably wouldn't seem so bad if I hadn't already gotten so good at the playstation versions, so if you are just looking for something to pass the time on the road or something, go ahead and buy it. But if you are looking for a Gameboy version of the original Spyro games, don't bother. Though, I'll try Season of Fire, and maybe Spyro Orange, which my stepmom owns, before giving up on GBA Spyro.
As a side-note, when are we going to get to play Bentley the Yeti? He was my favorite. I'd buy the game if he were in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spyro's the best!
[...]

This game is challenging when you first start, but when you get the hang of it, it may be easier. You start on Autumn Fairy World and, depending on how many fairies you have, you can get up to the other seasons.I'm on Winter Fairy Home, which is the second season.

This game allows you to breathe as much fire as you need, jump, fly, glide, and land.In Winter Fairy Home, there are challenging mini-games such as Hummingbird Fort.If you are a beginner, I won't suggest this game because sometimes it can be very challenging, like when you get into the Sparks World. If you've been using Game Boy Advance for a while and you get the hang of it pretty well, I suggest this game because it lets you use your skills, and it makes you think.

Overall, I think it's a really great game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Spyro
I hated this game because it was the same thing each level, find the fairies and get the jewels. The levels got very boring after a while, and I was glad when I beat the game. I don't recommend this game to anyone.I hated it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The best game
I love this game. This game has a lot of sense of humor. The one on super nintendo is actually much better , i mean they are about the same on gba the only difference is the gba is much harder. I cant even finish the game on GBA but on super nintendo I can finish it in less than 2 hrs..

4-0 out of 5 stars almost the greatest game for gameboy advance
earthworm jim is back and even better than the first one. it has great sound and graphics and interesting things to do such as carry pigs, journey in the small intestine as a salimander fly with his pocket rocket and bounce puppies on marshmellows.the graphics are crisp and there is also great sound. you also now carry along your buddy snot so jim can use snot swing and snot parachute.there is one major flaw with the game though the passwords dont work very well, only a few do .but besides this downfall the game is still pretty great! (e-mail me to get passwords if you buy the game)

3-0 out of 5 stars Good game but.....
This game is really fun to play but it crashes on the fourth(?) level when using a password. And half of the passwords it gives do not work.So if you don't mind playing this game all the way through or if you're lucky enough to get functional passwords, this is a great game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garoovy!
How could I pass up a game as nostalgic as earth worm jim 2. The first one is great and so is the sequel and they're just as good as they were on the SNES (the sound track is a bit muffled but meh). This game is awsome, the fun is unmatched. Buy this game!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure takes you to theisland of GreatLog, where, playing as Tara--a member of a family of monsterfarmers--you complete a series of missions to keep the island from sinking. Taralooks for magical keys, explores a number of alternative worlds, performsreconnaissance for an impetuous king, and even joins the circus. But collectingand breeding monsters is the real meat of this game, and is the area with themost intricate and addictive gameplay.

Each monster has its own complex set of characteristics, and can be matched withany monster of the opposite gender to produce a new member of Tara's monstermenagerie (don't worry: the actual breeding takes place offscreen). The resultsof monster breeding can be surprising, and allow for nearly endlessexperimentation. Of course, your responsibilities don't end with breeding: youmust also take your monsters out on missions to give them experience and keepthem sharp. Let your monsters languish for too long on the farm and they'll getlazy and disobedient.

The monster breeding by itself wouldn't be much fun if it weren't for the game'simaginative settings and strong characters. Despite the Game Boy's modestgraphics and sound capabilities, the game evokes distinctive atmospheres andpersonalities through an inventive use of textures and dialogue boxes. Themultiple menus necessary for successful navigation of this world at first appeardauntingly complex, but the interface does a good job of leading you along untilyou get the hang of things.

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure stresses creativity andconstructive behavior over conflict. While it's true that you can hardly takethree steps without your monsters getting into another fight, the violenceitself is not at all graphic, and outcomes rely as much on strategy andrelationships as on brute force. The world of the game is a gentle and whimsicalone where nothing too bad ever happens. Even if one of your monsters hasthe misfortune of getting killed, it follows you around in a cute little coffinuntil you can arrange for a resurrection.

The one disappointment with Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventureis not so much with the title itself as with its much-hyped interaction with itscompanion title, Dragon Warrior:Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey. Linking with another Game Boy Color runningeither the same cartridge or its companion title enables, among other things, monster swapping and multiplayer adventuring, but the layouts, plots, characters, and dialogue are virtually identical in Tara's Adventures andCobi's Journey. The addition of a few extra monster types and spellshardly justifies the expense of a second game cartridge.

But never mind. Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure providesmore than enough fun missions, engaging characters, and imaginative settings torate as a smashing success as a standalone. --David Stoesz

Pros:

  • Minimal violence
  • Battery save feature lets you bookmark your progress without using passwords
Cons:
  • Virtually identical to Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey

4-0 out of 5 stars Opinions, Opinions.
This game is a pretty good one for those who are into the whole monsters collecting, training, and battling scenario. Highly recommended. Also, check out this title: Revelations:The Demon Slayer for the same reasons as of the above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two very different game for one price
Any game that involves collecting monsters is going to draw comparisons to the all-holy Pokemon. It's unavoidable. So let's dismiss the assumption that Enix's Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a Pokemon clone. It is not. If anything, it's a merging of Pokemon and Monster Rancher. If you want to collect every monster imaginable, you're gonna need to put some of your fave beasts out to stud and breed whole new species. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is actually two games in one. The first half of the game is a very classical Japanese RPG. The kingdom's in trouble and it's up to you, the unsuspecting hero, to save the day. The second half is all about finding new monsters, building them up, breeding them, and repeating the process to infinity with the hopes of finding every last species. There are two separate games you can buy, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey or Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure. Both titles are nearly identical. The same quest, the same results. But each title has unique monsters and magic keys. To reach all of the many lands of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, you'll have to breed monsters and swap keys with a buddy playing the other game. Cobi and Tara are friendly siblings whose family has just opened a monster ranch on the tiny island of GreatLog. Their peaceful lives are soon disrupted when the irresponsible Prince Kameha and his monster sidekick, Warubou, accidentally destroy the GreatLog's navel plug (yes, you read that right). As often happens when an island's navel plug is destroyed, GreatLog begins to sink. Warubou acts as a temporary plug, but it is up to you as either Cobi or Tara to journey to five different worlds in search of a replacement plug. From here the RPG is pretty standard. Travel around fighting random monsters and talking to various people in the town. All this leads you to a Boss encounter where you finally retrieve the potential plug replacement. You can only take three monsters with you on each journey, the rest are left at your father's ranch. Choose wisely. Enix has done a nice job balancing this game. Monsters become increasingly difficult to defeat as you progress through the game, but never so much that it gets frustrating. Random monster encounters are never so common that they become annoying. On average, you'll hit one encounter on each screen. Battles aren't yours to fight, but are left for your monsters. The wilder a monster is, the less likely they are to follow orders in combat. Give them love (and boatloads of food) and they will become more obedient. Each monster is capable of learning skills that are of great help come combat time. All of the bosses are tough, but none are impossible to beat. The bulk of the game comes after the RPG is finished. Once the credits roll, you're free to search for magic keys that will unlock a myriad of worlds to explore, monsters to nab, and items to find. Breeding is the key to finishing both the RPG and finding all of the available monsters. Each monster will be either male or female. Choose a mom and a dad who are both 10th level or above and take them to Professor Monster at the Starry Shrine. Now it's time to dim the lights, put on some soothing Barry White, and let nature take its course. Apparently, Enix isn't too hot on parental values because before your newborn can hatch, mom and dad split, never to be seen again. And I mean never. Left behind is their powerful and unique offspring. With the link cable you can hook up with friends and battle your monsters, swap keys and monsters, or even breed two monsters together. The monsters that come from breeding with your buddy's crew are some of the best you can get. Breeding new creatures, exploring the many new worlds of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, and dealing some smack-down to your friends adds a lot of depth to an already solid RPG. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a step up from the original thanks to more monsters and the need to link up with a friend in order to truly finish the game. The RPG takes anywhere from 8-12 hours, but it's the monster ranching that makes the game a winner. It would have been nice if Cobi and Tara had two separate RPG's, but like the Stones said, you can't always get what you want. If you like Monster Rancher, this is the game for you. No, it's not as good or as addictive as Pokemon, but it is a great game nonetheless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragan Warrior Monsters 2
This is a great game with many monsters and secrets and FUN! It is the better version of Pokemon.

4-0 out of 5 stars OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW
I'M JUST NEW TO THE DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTER SERIES. I BOUGHT THIS GAME BASED ON MANY REVIEWS THAT I READ WHICH I FELT WERE VERY DESCRIPTIVE AND INTERESTING. THE WEIRD THING IS, I GOT THIS GAME VERY CHEAP FROM (...). IT COST ME $10. IT WAS WORTH IT. THIS GAME IS GREAT. YES IT DOES HAVE THE SAME CONCEPT LIKE POKEMON, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT, THIS GAME IS MORE LENGHTIER, CHALLENGING (BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE), AND MORE QUESTS. IN POKEMON, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS TRAIN YOUR POKEMON, BEAT ALL 16 GYMS (DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RUBY AND SAPHIRE, BASING IT ON GOLD AND SILVER), BEAT A WEAK POKEMON LEAGUE, BEAT ASH, CAPTURE ALL THE POKEMON AND YOUR THE MASTER. IN DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTERS AND DRAGONWARRIOR, YOU NOT ONLY CAPTURE, BREED, AND TRAIN MONSTERS, YOU ALSO GET TO GO THROUGH MANY QUESTS AND ADVENTURES, INCLUDING HIDDENQUESTS TOO. I'M TELLING YOU PEOPLE. YA SHOULD BUY THIS GAME. GO TO (...). ITS VERY CHEAP THERE. ONLY WORTH $10. TRUST ME ITS WORTH. DON'T WAIT TILL ITS DISCONTINUED, BUY IT NOW!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
This is a really great game!If you like the kind of game where you go around, collecting monsters, leveling up, and trying to save your world, then this is your game! The only downside is that the graphics aren't that great...but if you can look past that...then this game would be alot of fun! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ok
OK, this game is kinda good and I like it a bit.
The graphics are not so good and the bean challenges are sorta hard. The Basililsk is so dumb it like shoots little green thingies out of its mouth at you and you never get the sword. If I were to remake this game I would have you fight basililsk with sword, have you be able to fly the car, have more spells, make gringotts a little easier, and change the invisibility cloak(you find it in the hallway and it makes you invisible for a little while then goes back to where you found it-but is an advantage, its very hrd to sneak by Snape otherwise).

This is not worth your money, unless you are a Harry Potter total mainaic.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing and short
Reviewer:Adriel
This game is fair, but disappointing. This is probably a game for a plane ride.Too short. And why in the world you have to kill the snake using spells and not a sword,a major flaw.

Graphics:4/5 a bit impressing
Audio:3/5 when using spells, why do they sound like spacecrafts?
Gameplay:3/5
replayability:2/5
fustration:1/5

4-0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this game
I received a GBA from my brother, & because I'm a fan of Harry Potter this was the 1st game I bought.I really enjoyed playing it, & found that I couldn't stop playing it!

I was impressed by the graphics, & the sound was pretty good (The last handheld I had was the original clunky Gameboy) so this was a suprise to see how it's changed graphically.

The story wasn't the best (Nothing like the Gamecube version), but I liked performing the tasks, & it was in a way almost relaxing to play this game.It definately made long drives less long.

Although I must admit I suck at Quidditch...Oh well, we can't all be a Viktor Krum...

1-0 out of 5 stars It'll help u get to sleep cause it is so boring!!!!!
This game is weak and it really is a waste of money. The graphics are ok but there is hardly any sound except beeps! There is no action, adventue or anything like that. It takes about an hour to complete if you're slow. The only good thing is well nothing!!! Don't buy this game cause it is a waste of your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it!
This was my second Harry Potter game, the first being Sorcerer's Stone on GBC.I loved this game!

Okay, so I'm one of the older people into games, but it was a nice challenge.Keeping me busy at the doctor's office, when I needed sleep but couldn't, and other activities too boring to mention.

The graphics were okay, much better than GBC.In reality, GBC sucked! After completing COS I went out and bought this one for GBA.Unfortunately, rule #1 is never buy it used.I need to purchase a NEW one!!

There are lots of things to turn, but it was never boring playing this game!!GET IT!!
