2-0 out of 5 stars If you have the PC-version of the original, don't bother
Jailbreak is an embarrassment to the Road Rash franchise. It's so weak and pointless and the gameplay is unbelievably crap. Everything that makes Road Rash great has been whittled down to nothing that I ended up wondering why they bothered.

1. You cannot fall off your bike and run around. If you smash into your car you just go right through it. Falling off only happens (rather unspectacularly) when you're energy hits zero. But you magically reappear on the bike in a second.

2. There are only 4 rashers per race. In previous games there were 15. It doesn't really feel like a race anymore and there are 11 less people to beat-up.

3. Marshall Lee only chases you. He will not go after any other rashers.

4. There are very few/no opportunities for stunts/jumps.

5. The sound effects are rotten.

6. There is no rear-view mirror or indicators telling you who is behind.

7. There is no counter telling you how far you've come in the racecourse.

There is also a new feature here in which you can play Marshall Lee on his police bike. The aim is to knock the rashers off their bikes before they reach the finish line. But where is the fun in this? If you're going faster you have to slow down to their speed and painstakingly attack them while maintaining slowness. This is not what Road Rash is about!

Mix this in with some horrible graphics and you have a total stinker of a game. A huge disappointment indeed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not fabulous. Not awesome. Not terrific. But it's an OK game
This is an OK game. It's pretty fun to drive and race but once you go past a cop, he'll follow only YOU throughout the rest of the track. He'll hit you until you fall of your bike then you have to start the race again. I have only been able to get to 3 of the tracks. You can do Urban City, Tropical, and Rainforest. The City is the hardest of the first 3. There are a lot of things you can hit going around corners. The game in all is alright. Rent it then see if you like it and THEN buy if you want it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Many games in one
I love it!

There are many ways to play this game, including multi-player, which makes this game a must have. The graphics are very clear and the precision of the driving is great--you don't crash around every corner. However, hitting your opponents three times fast is very difficult, but you can just slow down and wait for them to go around again if you like to have a nice scenic bike ride.

There is Wild Race, where you race against three other bikers and a cop.In Cop Patrol, you're the cop and have to knock down all four bikers.Time Attack lets you race without opponents against a clock (very difficult).I haven't figured out Survival mode yet because it requires a password and my first password for Wild Race doesn't work on it.Multi-player lets up to two players connect (I haven't done this). Finally, there is a tips section that gives clues as to the gameplay. It's fairly simple but tons of fun, and the variations just make it a bonus on bonus.

5-0 out of 5 stars The other reviewer is...
Some gamers may remember that Road Rash actually came out on the Sega Genesis way before the Playstation, and in it's day, surpassed most racers as a witty and original racer, with easy-to-use handling and a good sense of speed. Well those days have been and gone for a lot of us, and I have waited and waited and waited. Finally, an acceptable version of the game is coming out. By acceptable I mean brilliant. I recommend you RENT THIS GAME. Believe me, this game is good. And it has police batons in it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Another port from Destination (yawn).
Well, yet another popular title is trying to get ported to the Game Boy Advance. The problem is, a Game Boy Advance can never live up to the visuals set by the Playstation. The lack of buttons means control is missing. Even worse, it runs on the same engine as the disastrous SMUGGLER'S RUN port a few months ago!EA made a solid port of this to the Game Boy Color three years ago, but they actually put effort into it.Do not buy this title. If you need some violence on motorcycles, buy GTA: VICE CITY for PS2. If you need a driving game on Game Boy Advance, get Colin McRae Rally 2.0. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!!!!!
I just bought this game and was surprised at how cheap it was only $10.00 ,well it is the best game ever.It is a 3D pilot game that reminds me of the arcade games i used to play when i was 10 ,and it is sorta like starfox. But seriously , its the best game ever, action every second, laser flying by , power ups ,and it is especially great on the gameboy player for game cube, it just feels like an arcade game, so basically its great.
But if you dislike flying games,STAY AWAY!!

1-0 out of 5 stars oh my.....
This game is one of the worst games I have ever played.I got it on clearance for $...and I still felt like I had paid too much. This is NOT comparible to Star Fox for the SNES.If it was, this would be one of the biggest titles for the GBA.For a shooter, the aim is one of the worst programming jobs I've ever experienced. You can't aim because your cross hairs are constantly drifting to the middle of the screen.I got so frustrated that thoughts of pounding my GBA repeatedly against a sidewalk was seeming like a resonable plan of action.Simply put:WORST GAME EVER.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
Star X is a aracade style fly and fry game which is very similar to Star Fox for the SNES.If you liked that, you will like this.It has the same forced forward scroll levels, as well as some free flying ones in space. There are several different weapons that you can pick up to increase your fire power. There are nine planets, with a challenging boss at the end of each one.A free flying space level follows each planet. My main gripe is the password based save.

5-0 out of 5 stars High-flying Star X
This is a high-flying, alien-blasting, shoot-em up game.It has very great graphic for the fact that it's not like a handhled X-Box or something. The story: you're a human pilot who went with some diplomats to an alien planet.Hoping for peace your group met with theirs, but the aliens aren't quite the talk it out type of guys so when they see your group they literally blow it up.Now you're the last force between these 'Karask' and earth. Can you stop them before every human is a slave.Fly through 22 missions in 9 alien worlds, including some levels in outer space.Destroy enemy craft.Get power-ups for your laser, shield, and even collect smart-bombs to blow up those aliens.Gun power-ups can go with you to further levels. This game also has a practice mode to get you used to flying before you take on the Karask.About the only con is the cartridge art.Bam! should have put a little more effort into it but art doesn't make a game. You will love this game.Happy gaming.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hey! I wrote a review!
Ever played Star Fox? Well, if you have, you'll figure out fairly quickly that is is a pretty good clone. (But who says that's a bad thing?) Anyhoo, for those of you who have never enjoyed Star Fox, this is a basic "on-rails" shooter. You pilot a star ship through 22 levels, set in many different environments as enemies come at you head-on. The cool thing about this game is that it features a completely 3-dimensional polygonal graphics engine, a first for Game Boy Advance. Though technically Tony Hawk was the first GBA game to use polygons, Star X uses polygons to create its whole environment, which makes it seem to have a depth that other GBA games lack. Kudos to Graphic State games (the game's developer) for creating such an advanced graphics engine.
Now on to the important stuff. The basic gameplay structure is piloting a spacecraft and destroying enemies while collecting weapon power-ups and missiles along the way. Kind of an arcade concept (like Galaga, except 3d). The levels never get extremely repetitive, and the boss fights are very enjoyable. The only cussup with the gameplay is the controls. They are purely aweful, and when you first purchase it, you might be inclined to try to get a refund. But if you don't, after quite a bit of practice, you'll get used to it. That is the primary problem with the game. The sound is, at best, average, and there are only two different tunes for all 22 courses. It gets repetitive, but you won't really notice. And the only other flaw is that as a cost-saving effort, the developers included a password save, rather than EEPROM, which saves your current game to the cartridge without having to input a password. Normally, this doesn't matter, but with a font where almost all characters look almost identical, you're sure to screw up the password.
This game has a few flaws, but overall, they don't really distract the fun gameplay, and you'll quickly forget about them. Above-average game. 3 1/2 out of 5. ... Read more

It's a really fun game. But there are a few setbacks:
+You can make your own pay per view
-You can almost never do the specials
+You can re-live Wrestlemania 18 matche
-It's missing some good wrestlers like:Big Show, Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar, ect.

I got the game and it number #1.I enjoy it a lot.I am on King of the Ring on Pay-Per-Veiw.I love it.That all I have to say.PEACE OUT!

4-0 out of 5 stars HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!
Road to W.M.18 IS REALLY GREAT FOR A GAMEBOY GAME. The graphics are amazing, and the entrances are pretty good, as well as the all the finishing moves. You can play in Cage, Hardcore,Handicap
Lumberjack, Fatal Four Way, ironman, and submission, king of the ring and royal rumble. You Can also choose from 5 different pay-per-views to make, including wrestlemania. The only problem with this game is that there's only 16 superstars and none of them are stone cold. They also Shopzone, where you can get cool stuff by winning things like the hardcore, tag team, intercontinental, and Undisputed titles.(remeber this, to get a high enough score for pay per views, make all matches long and brutal with tons of moves). Overall, this game ROCKS!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is easily the best game in the entire universe. I have about every game known to man and this is my favorite. I love how stupid the steering is and how fake it is. I also love that you crash due to anything. I also love how short the game is. Took me 20 minutes to beat it. TWICE!! Its awesome, you have no control of your charachter or bike and you cant choose the level or anything. But you do get to choose wether you want arcade or challenge mode. This game sucks. Dont buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOLEST RACING GAME EVER!!!
The graphics are good, the gameplay is great. It is an overall a fun racing game. I recommend this game for a person who is looking for a really fun racing game.

1-0 out of 5 stars quad desert furry is not good
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!! I bought it and I was ripped off. It isextremely hard, the graphics are blurry, and even a blade of grass makes you fall!!! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game makes me sad
They should have called this game "QUAD: Avoid the Bushes"

Someone obviously put together a great voxel engine for the GBA, problem here is that they've barely mapped a game onto it.Don't expect any depth here.

Only choices for play are single track or championship (race through all seven.)

Once you get used to the steering controls (seems that you turn sharper the faster you're driving, which feels incorrect) the game is very easy - takes about 20 minutes to beat the game.

Finally, there are practically no physics to go along with the neat terrain, jumping doesn't seem to work the way you'd expect, and you can drive right up steep slopes.

Great visuals, decent sound, shallow/mediocre gameplay.

3-0 out of 5 stars Half-and-half
It's okay, but I didn't go nuts about it.You have to be in the right mood to be willing to play this. It gets pretty boring after a while. And I ALWAYS turn off the unbeliveably annoying music; I just can't stand digital music. And if you want to go back to the main menu when you're in the middle of a level, you have to turn your entire GameBoy off and then on again. The basic moves are a little boring; Jump, Walk, Duck and Crawl. No white-nuckled shooting at bad guys. In fact, you are helpless; you have to avoid all the enemies instead of defeating them.

Good game to get if you don't have anything to do most of the day.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad
This game is good and bad, fun and flawed, good and not good, so I would have given it a 2.5 but because of some good areas I gave it a three as instead of a two.I think some areas are fun, but some are just downright annoying. So I think you should only get it if you are crazy about Stuart Little.Other than those people I would only recomend if you rented first, because some may end up liking it, but not most people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best for younger gamers
This game is not for older or experienced gamers.

It is a fine game but the play is somewhat repetative and not so engaging for the grown-up gamer.I expect that younger games would have a good time with this though.

That said the graphics are fine as is the sound. The levels and scenes are laid out so that there is plenty of variety which is always a good thing.

One thing to note is that on some levels the the doorways are hard to see. They look more like someone shining a light in the shape of a door on the wall instead of a real door itself.Once you get used to this, though, it is very clear where the doors are. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the most misunderstood GBA Games.
I love Jimmy Neutron, but this game isn't that bad, it's just misunderstood. The game isn't as fun as the other Jimmy Neutron games, simply because of one problem.Everytime Jimmy gets hit by an enemy, he respawns to a spot before he encountered the enemy. With practice at avoiding unnessary enemies, this game can actually become a bit fun.Multiplayer's a blast, and only needs one copy of the game. While it may not be Jimmy Neutron at his best, it's still worth looking at if your a Neutron fan or looking for a good multiplayer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Master and Commander
kinda sucks! Negatron orwhatever is a stupid invention. Don't buy it as it is wasting good money! I recommend medal of Honor for pissed off guys. My point is......... Don't buy Jimmy Neutron games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Challenge!
This game is perfect for kids who complete video games too quickly. It is the perfect challenge. Lots of action, graphics, and sounds.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk, junk junk, junk, junk, junk, junk, junk!
It is rare that I run into a product simply SO bad, that I would rather use the disk for a drink coaster. But this is it.Horrble graphics, SLOW response.Tried it on three different machines with the same problems.A waste of money if I ever spent in on my kid.I could not wait to put this review up to save someone else the agony of dealing with this garbage...

4-0 out of 5 stars Too Hard for kids, hard even for adults

Amazon.com Review

Because it's easy for Disney to rest on the considerable appeal of theircharacters, their video games are often not up to snuff. Happily, Peter Pan:Return to Never Land is one of the better third-party games released for theGBA. It doesn't bring much new to the tried-and-true platform game genre, but itdoes well with crisp, bright graphics, smart level design, and a pleasingsoundtrack from the movie's catchy original songs.

Though this game is basedon a sequel, most gamers will immediately recognize the first couple of levelsfrom the classic 1953 film. Thegame starts with a visit to now-grown-up Wendy's house to take her kids on theirown adventure to Never Land. Once there, Tinker Bell is kidnapped, so you've gotto rescue her and all of the Lost Boys spread throughout levels in the game. Ason any other platformer, you must run, jump, and dispatch baddies (Peter doesthis with his trusty dagger, which he can also throw) to get to where you'regoing, but here you can also fly--provided you have Tink and enough pixie dustby your side. The power-ups and secret items are plentiful and pretty easy tofind, which seems to be the right difficulty approach, given the youngeraudience of this game. Older kids and adults may want to play the game at theharder difficulty setting in the options menu. There are also clips of the moviethat can be unlocked by finding hidden film reels, but these are short andrather bland.

The downside of this title is still very common among portable games: no batterysave feature. Rather than saving your progress through the game, players aregiven jumbled strings of letters to mark their completion of the end of a level. It's not a dealbreaker, but it means players will need pen and paper handy ifthey want to continue. And there's no way to save midlevel. --Porter B.Hall

Pros:

  • Crisp, bright graphics
  • Flying is easy and fun
  • Good level design
Cons:
  • No battery save
  • Too short and easy for experienced gamers

This game is something that u don't want to spend too much time on. The Graphics are really good, but the game play just didn't appeal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
I was very impressed with Disney's Peter Pan Return to Neverland for gameboy advance. The graphics were really beautiful, the colors bright, and the music and words were clear and enjoyable. Unlike some of the other games put together featuring Disney movies, you can see that a great deal of effort was put into making this game. I found the it to be very engrossing. Once I began playing I could not put it down and also the passwords are short and easy to remember. The only downfall of this game is that it's not very long. However it is something that you would want to play again and again. All in all the one word that describes Disney's Peter Pan Return to Neverland is Fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars A perfect choice for shooter fans.
This game has everything that makes Gradius games good, and a little bit more:

Visuals: 4/5
First off, the graphics are top notch, with great looking backgrounds, and some nice looking enemies. Everything has a good amount of detail to it, and the game even looks good when blown up on a big screen, when using the GC adapter. The only complaint about the graphics is that the game is really dark, but if you are using the Advance SP, or if you have a good lighting addition to your GBA (and there are hundreds out now, so you should), it's not a problem at all.

Sound: 3/5

Nothing spectacular here. Better sound effects than III or IV, but not by much. Instead of going "BOP" when a baddy gets shot, it makes a small crush sound. The lazer shots don't quite sound as annoying either, but the music score is a little annoying sometimes.

Gameplay: 4/5

Everything you'd expect from a Gradius game, except for one thing: In previous Gradius games, if you pumped the difficulty up as high as it would go, and you died in the middle of a stage and lost all your power-ups, it was extremely difficult to come back. That does not hold true for this game. You can continue from just about any part of the game and make a comeback fairly well, as the designers usually place a significant amount of powerups at each respawn portion of the game. The only time that the game is next to impossible without powerups is when you've beaten the game several times through, and are playing on a high loop setting.

Extra: 4/5

It's great that you can continue from any respawn point that you have reached on any difficulty setting! This allows for gamers to pick up, play for a few minuettes, and when they die, put it away so that they can play later at almost the spot they died. I also like the hint section, even though it doesn't do any good if you are playing on anything higher than normal difficulty.

The reason I gave 4/5 for extra, is because in previous Gradius games, the player could customize the ship more. In this one they have a bunch of presets that are fairly well balanced out.

Overall 4/5

It's a great game for gamers that are new to shooters and shooter fans alike. The lower difficulty settings, good respawn points, and hint modes, make the game pretty eassy for beginners. The ability to continue from spots after looping through the game allows for advanced shooter gamers to play at extremely difficult settings. I'd call this game a must have for GBA owners, unless you're really not interested in intense gameplay.

3-0 out of 5 stars Two old memories come back for a visit.
One is the Gradius game and the other is arm cramps. That's right children, this game hurts. There's no such thing as Turbo or Rapid fire here. One press of the button makes one shot. You wanna shoot another, press the button again. This leads to some very inventive cradling of the GBA system.I found it best to keep it on my lap, lift my right hand completely off the GBA, and start whacking away at the fire button. With all the enemies that show on the screen, in the later levels, you'll have to pause he game just to catch your breath....literally.
But is it fun you say?Well, Yes and No.If you have fond memories of this game, from your youth, then you'll enjoy shooting a ton of enemies one more time. But once you find out that there's 6 stages, or more, for the 13 or so levels in the game, you really don't feel like playing anymore. It's a good game, but it's not That good.
Do yourself a favor, play this with the Game Shark enhancer. It'll save you from Carple tunnel.

2-0 out of 5 stars An insult to Gradius
The older Gradius games were great back in the day, but this GBA version bothered me so much I had to return it.The graphics are below average for GBA standards, but what really frustrated me was the gameplay.

Gradius gives lots of cool and customizable options, but your ship's starting speed is so slow you can't even avoid being hit by enemies with 2-3 seconds to react!Once you can get a speed power up things balance out, but seriously the game is complete frustration trying to dodge slow moving enemies with a sluggish ship and still not being able to do so.

Avoid this game unless you are a Gradius freak and need to re-live the old days.

3-0 out of 5 stars THE OK AND GOOD GAME
My brother got this game and at first hated it. Then he finally started to like it a little more each day until he really liked it. The gameplay is very basic,a space invaders kind of game with boses. The graphics are good. My brother would give this 5 stars, but I think this game is kind of boring.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good game
this is a pretty good game. the graphics areso-sobut gameplay is good and swift. you can switch which type of ship you want, each with different powerups. you can only take one hit before you are destroyed, which [stinks] but then you can get one of two types of shield, forward(10 hits) or surround shields(3 hits). both protect you from anything but crashing. graphics are super, and the controls are simple and changable, surprise surprise. all in all, a great game. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LONG LAST!
As an avid fan of Robotech I have to say that after playing this game it is a DREAM come true! I LOVE being able to transform in this game, as it is in the show. Unlocking other battloids is also quite impressive. I found the game to be challenging and engaging! I hope all fans of the show give this game a shot. It plays like a side scrolling shooter but should appease the veritech pilot in us all!

4-0 out of 5 stars It is hard but fun
This game is very hard but it is pretty cool when you get the hang of it. It is a good game for fans of robotech but is too hard. I can get past the 8th level but not the 2nd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and True to the Show
THE ROBOTECH game for GBA is a side scrolling shoot em up where you have three modes for your ship - robot, flyer, and inbetween.I'm still not sure what the advantages of each mode is since it seems you can kill anyone in any mode, but great fun to toggle back and forth. You play as a character from the series!Rick Hunter seems to be a fave, but Max and Miria are great too. Each character has its own settings and talents.

The music is from the series, and if you get it new it came with a figure. It's challenging! But once you get the hang of it ... very fun.Graphics are good.Fans of the show will be delighted, and the rest of the world will find it a good basic game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Frustrating But Extremely Fun
While most of the other reviewers say that this game is to hard or to short I think this game is very good while it lasts. I mean it is a little short if you only clear it once but try clearing it with every single character including the secrets characters and getting all their stats full. Now that might take a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Robotech fans and others
Even if you don't know what Robotech is (best Anime ever) this game is great for anyone who loves side scrolling shooters. The music comes straight from the show; including the main theme and even Rick Hunters theme all redone and sounding great for the GBA's limited sound capabilities. The graphics too are amazing. About the only bad thing I can say is that it is extremely challenging. Switching between Battleoid, Guardian and Fighter modes doesn't give many advantages for any of them like in Battle Cry (Robotech for consoles). Those two things aside, this game is amazing! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars its frustraiting and hard but a bit fun
This game was fun for a little while then it got boring. this game is very long and it's a password game. There are some very hard and frustrating levels but some levels are quite fun. The driving levels are very frustrating and the flying levels are horribly difficult. The enjoyable thing about this game is that you can use batarangs and smoke bombs and your batarangs can also be used to grab onto things and pull you up. I'd give it about 65%. I'd rent it before you buy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice look. Frustrating gameplay.
Being a long-time fan of both Batman and side-scrolling games, I thought that it would obvious that I'd enjoy this game. The slideshow style visuals, used to tell the story, are beautiful. The actual in-game graphics are nice too, but the game elements could have been designed to be a bit bigger. On certain stages, enemies and other hazzards can be difficult to see.

The most frustrating aspect of this game, however is the way Batman reacts to his environment. The edge detection seems to be off slightly, causing Batman to plummet to his death more often than he should. This wouldn't bother me so much if the gameplay didn't rely so heavily on planning precice jumps from platform to platform, all while avoiding enemies and other hazards.

If you think you are the kind of person who can look past the wacky environment physics, the game is fairly rewarding. I just wish the developers took some clues from other games that got it right.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bat is Back in Black!!!
I got this game for my birthday, and I started plaqying it with my new Gameboy Advance. I have to tell you, I thought it was better than any hand-held game ever created! You play as Batman in the side-scroller stages, but in some levels, you are Batgirl and Robin in the Batwing, Robin (in some of the Mr. Freeze levels), and Batman in the Batmobile. If you are a mom or dad who has a child who likes Batman, definately get him/her this game!

4-0 out of 5 stars Batarang Throwing Fun
I like the idea of the game, it is enjoyable. They got the premise right for the GBA and made it mostly a side-scrolling type of game which is what you need when you only have a 2 inch screen.I like all of that.I was really getting into the game until I got to the part where I am driving the batmobile through the streets and then I never make it through in the time limit provided.Getting a little frustrated with that part of the game. Otherwise it is fun and enjoyable. The skills don't take long to master and you get to kick some bad guy butt which apparently is something I like to do since I loved Jackie Chan Adventures so much for the same reason (Jackie gets 5 stars). You should enjoy this game - it is a lot of fun.If you get through the batmobile stage - can you give me some pointers??

I am Batman. No wait - I'm Robin. No wait...

4-0 out of 5 stars Adventure and action game
This game is great for kids who like superheros and fighting with your fists and weapons and gadgets that can help you in jams. It keeps you from putting it down because of the superb graphics and the levels are so exciting. The batmobile levels are keeping it from a five star because you can't really see whats in front of you so that you can dodge holes and cars.I am 13 yrs. old and its a bit cheesy for my age but the younger ages 8-11 will love it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Little replay value
This is a 2D side scroller that's easy to beat, hence little replay value.Basically you use tricks to outclass your rivals.Rent it if you must try it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but too easy
I think this game is really fun, and very colorful, shows off the system nicely. This installment of the Motocross Maniacs series has a few new tricks, and some great looking new levels, but lacks the level of competitiveness of the old version. I still have the black and white original, and it is more fun to play over and over than this version. This game is just TOO easy.... I beat it in about an hour, and because I trounce the competition so easily, I don't really want to play it again. If you have young kids, this is a great game, they will like it and not get too frustrated. Otherwise, try Mario Kart if you like racing.I would have given it less stars if it hadn't been really fun the one time I played it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT
As the other gamers expressed in thier reviews, this game is a big disappointment. Like Loekitty did, I had purchased the game because I was "enthused about the idea of playing a classic Shinobi game on my GBA".
It was in deed diffucult to figure out how to come down the stairs, but it didn't take me long to figure it out. I was expecting the game to be like the genesis version, but of course it was nothing like it. I was able to get pass the fact of the poor graphics and animation.
It was the repitition of similar levels and difficult game controls that upset me to wher I didn't want to play it anymore. Every level has very similar backgrounds. I went through about 7 levels and it was always mountains in the background with the same houses, or all rock behind I was underground.
It took me forever to learn how to do the double jump. I have to be exactly at the peak of a jump before hitting the jump button again - you can't be the slightest higher or lower. It took me over an hour before I could get in sync with it. And even then it messed up sometimes.
As for the codes who ever thought up the design is a sure enough idiot!! You have to change like 12 different character blocks for entering the code. Why did they have to make it so difficult? It would take me a least a minute or two to flip through each character block to enter the complete combination code.
Bottom line don't get the game unless you like monotonous, difficult games!!

1-0 out of 5 stars worst game ever!
i did not buy the game but i was going to but then my friend had the game so i borrowed it. it is very hard and the staris are very hard to get down. don't waste your money i am glad i bought another game, the other game i bought is called Need For Speed Underground(great game).

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I got this game for Christmas, so don't blame me for wasting money. The graphics or basic and bland, animation is limited and sloppy, and controls are very awkward. The music is limited to a soundtrack of less than 10 songs, none of which are impressive in the least. The story is horrendous as well; it seems like a bad dub of a kung-fu movie. This game brought no fun, only frustration.

2-0 out of 5 stars Impress
Traditional Gamer - See " Golden Sun" for more information. This was a hell of a lot better than "Altered Beast". The game controls were some waht difficult, but I got thru it OK. If I had to rate this game it would have been 2 and one half stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars the worst game i've ever played
i bought the Revenge of Shinobi blindly because i was too enthused about the idea of playing a classic Shinobi game on my GBA to stop and think that it might [be bad]. reading the instructions booklet that came with the game kept my sense of hope alive, and after throwing the cartridge in my GBA (and, of course, turning it on) my enthusiam was still strong. the game looks alright, and appears to have a big map so you won't breeze through it in an hour.

that, however, is all the praise i can give it.

the controls of this game are probably the worst i've ever encountered. i got stuck at one point because i couldn't get down the stairs. i got up the stairs fine to go into an upstairs area fine, but i had no idea how to get down. i spent twenty minutes trying to get down the stairs before i gave up in frustration. pressing down didn't work, going to the stairs and pressing down and in the direction of the stairs didn't work. i tried many, many combinations of buttons to get down the stairs and found out that none of them worked.

i considered stopping my adventures in Revenge of Shinobi after the aforementioned stairs incident. i turned the GBA off, but then decided not to let the game beat me. i finally figured out how to get down the stairs, but it just got worse. the password system instead of a battery save is horrible, and doesn't seem to work half the time (ie: sometimes the password i received to get back to a particular level worked, sometimes it told me the password was invalid). the levels are tedious--you just walk through them and slash, slash, slash away with your katana.

in the end, the game won the battle and i stopped playing after beating the first two bosses. i felt cheated and angry that such a classic could be turned into such a horrible abomination.

unless you have a severe masochist streak, i would stay far, far away from this game. it will reduce you into a frustrated, crying lump on the floor and remove any good memories you may have had about the Shinobi series. i think that this is the worst game i have ever played. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Witty character dialogue isn't the only joke here
Here's an example of what happens when too much effort is put into witty character dialogue and not enough is put into making a fun game.Effort was also put into the graphics.Between making everything look good and inserting humorous dialogue at every turn, the designers of this game apparently forgot to give us decent game-play.

Pitfall Harry is on yet another expedition with a professor friend and a lady he has the hots for.The plane crashes, the survivors are scattered about the Amazon jungle, and Harry has to find them while collecting treasure, slaying scorpions, and battling numerous tribal bad guys.

The game starts out promising, with a nice-looking side-scroller level. The graphics here are sharp.Everything looks great.Harry is very well animated, as are the scorpions and other creatures he encounters during his travels. The backgrounds are impressive, sporting some great detail. When Harry slays the nearby scorpion with his slingshot, a ghost of the creature rises from its corpse. This is a typical platforming level.Slay the scorpions and other creatures, jump up and grab ledges, find a treasure or two...It looks great and plays fine.

But this was just a gimmick to draw us in, for this game is more than just platforming.Soon we are hang gliding, tobogganing down a mud slide, mountain climbing, jumping on logs in a swamp Frogger style, and doing other things that turn out to be incredibly annoying. This game follows a linear motif across several different worlds. Each world starts out with a thrill-seeking level (hang gliding, tobogganing, etc), then a top-down level, then two side-scroller levels, then a boss.

The only thrill-seeking level I actually enjoyed was the hang gliding. It's sort of like a top-down shooter.A stupid one.But it was fun.Harry hang glides and tosses rocks at tribesmen and birds who are coming after him.The rest of these levels are a bothersome chore to get through.Harry toboggans down a mud slide while avoiding harmful obstacles. He climbs an ice cliff while avoiding suicidal penguins and falling ice cycles. He rides an inner tube down rapids. The Frogger style one is the worst offender. He jumps around on a pogo stick, jumping on logs, lilly pads, and crocodiles.Let's set aside how stupid this is.It's not fun at all.You have to stay ahead of the constantly moving screen while doing all of this.If you get pushed off screen, you lose and have to start over at the beginning.Rather idiotic.

Then we're in an overhead view scene where Harry has to explore, find treasures, and rescue two adventurers (all of whom have broken legs).I didn't mind these parts as much. The jungle scene was pretty nice, sporting some great looking scenery.Piranhas inhabit streams that Harry has to get across.Scorpions, tribesmen, and rock-tossing monkeys all stand in our hero's way, but usually you can just run past them. The later levels feature geysers, flame spouts, and other hazards.

Then we're off to side-scroller land, traversing two platformer levels. The goal here is just to make it to the end and collect a few treasures along the way. There are vines to swing on, crocodiles to jump over, obstacles to avoid, and prevalent tribesmen and creatures. Finally, Harry squares off with a boss, all of which are pretty difficult.Good thing our hero has unlimited lives. The designers seem to want us to play this game all the way through, but they make the journey a difficult and rather annoying one.It doesn't help that the level designs aren't all that interesting to begin with. The bosses aren't all that interesting either.I don't mind being challenged as long as it's worth my while. The payoff here is conspicuously absent.

As mentioned, witty character dialogue is littered throughout the game.Harry has a dry sense of humor. He engages in dialogue with the professor and the girl he has the hots for (both of which have broken legs), he talks to various lost adventurers who all look the same (these guys also have broken legs), he meets a talking jaguar who annoys him, and he makes fun of the tribal bosses before each encounter. There's more witty dialogue here than there is interesting game-play.

Visually, the game looks awesome.Backgrounds during the side-scroller levels all have sharp detail.Harry and his opponents are very well animated.I especially like the scorpions. They did a great job on them. The top-down levels don't look too bad either.Harry leaves footprints in the snow as he traverses a snow-covered mountain (nice touch!).As mentioned, I liked the jungle scene with streams and lakes.I didn't notice the graphics much during the thrill-seeker levels because they were mostly such a chore to get through.

The sound department is a mixed bag.Effects are good.Music ranges from tolerable to quite awful. Some levels have ambient jungle sounds in the background (another nice touch).

But none of this matters because the game is just not fun.I don't care how good it looks. The platforming parts are annoying to work through, the top-down parts are lackluster, and those thrill-seeking parts are just gawd-awful.Perhaps they should've spent less time thinking up witty dialogue and more time working on decent level designs.Whatever potential this game had for greatness was lost in the sheer variety of poorly constructed challenges that Pitfall Harry has to overcome.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good game for the gba
I played the game on the pc, the gameboy color and now saw it on the gba. So i picked it up hoping it to be as good as the pc version since i did not like the gameboy color version. 3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but could be better
This game is adequate, but I expect much more, especially from an EA Sports title.Graphics are relatively good, but gameplay is lacking. The ability to accurately aim a shot/stroke is limited. Also, the "backswing" on the shot meter is started once the shot meter is displayed by depressing the "A" button--as a result, true control over short shots and puts is nearly impossible.

"Final Round Golf 2002" for GBA remains a better choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware!

2-0 out of 5 stars TOO EASY
This game is too easy ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP. Also, the level does not get any harder as you advance. It also does not give you much option such as off side, throwing in, Corner Kick, PK, etc. This game is too simple and too easy. It is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to loose this game even you wanted to loose......Graphic are also not so great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great game for kids under 9
This is a really great game for a younger gamer. The quest mode has a great story you go around the world playing diffrent teams trying to catch up with the evil brickster there is also a training mode and just single game mode to. But the bad part is I have beat teams 25-00 before in a 4 minute match. but overall it's a pretty good game.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Game!!!
How do YOU control a soccer team? How do YOU make your own team? How do YOU get to play AND win the world cup? It's all here, in the game!!! Watch out, tennis! Stand back, voleyball!!! Here comes, "SOCCER MANIA!!!!!!!!!!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Great Game

My 5 1/2 year old bought this with his own money...he'd been saving for quite some time and decided this was "the splurge" he'd been waiting for. I was a little apprehensive. He has Construction Zone, Scooby Doo Cyber Chase, and River King 2. While CZ was the easiest to master, Scooby and River King have been extremely frustrating. (age is the most likely factor, here - these are challenging games) Anyway, I end up being the one who has to help figure out the problem...and wipe the tears. NOT the case with Lego Soccer. He immediately started playing, and was thrilled that he scored a goal early on. He also really enjoyed being able to choose the teams and "win" gold, silver, and bronze medals. Seeing the flags and languages of the different nations represented even had him running to the world map to show me where the countries were located! I haven't had to help him out of a jam one time...the music isn't bad for a mom's ears...it's a great game.Hope this helps! - Midwestern Mom of Two ... Read more

Frantic and fun, Dark Arena combines raw action gameplay with strategic play and puzzle solving. It's the year 2146, and the United Arms Organization has completed the top-secret training of its finest soldiers. Genetically engineered opponents have been created to assess the combat skills of each trainee. These opponents are extremely dangerous, very aggressive, and considered the ultimate challenge. And now they have taken over the facility, killing everybody--everybody but you. Defeat the enemies and you just might live long enough to cross the camp and escape.

The game features texture-mapped 3-D environments and characters, 20 levels of full-on action, and multiple enemies and bosses, each with a unique style of attack. Your arsenal includes six deadly weapons. There are special deathmatch-specific areas with multiplayer link-up games (requires Game Link cable). The animated, textured environments feature unique lighting effects and destructible objects. You must solve puzzles, collect items, and avoid traps while battling enemies. Prerendered FMV sequences, the musical score, and sound effects add to the atmosphere. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad game
Was looking for a FPS for my new GBASP, and was given this. Very Doomlike, but what is missing is some music. Also, the enemies don't pursue you like they do in doom, but either way, it is a great little game. Not bad graphics either and pretty good texture for a handneld.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dark Arena, another DOOM clone . . . the difference?
Dark Arena is the ninth best FPS for the GBA, the first announced, but the fourth released for the system.Dark Arena is pretty much a Doom clone. What's the difference between the two?Well, hmmm . . . Doom is a better game.Dark Arena features enemies with zero intelligence which make them a breeze to kill even on the hardest skill level. The graphics in Dark Arena seem a little more bright and sharper than Doom but Doom looks better all around and is simply more fun to play.Dark Arena does offer a good variety of weapons, some neat looking enemies, and some fun levels but all of this is sub-par to the Doom games.Dark Arena is definitly a fun and welcome entry in the growing library of GBA games under the FPS genre but definitly a weaker one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mmm Beer i mean F.p.s.
The best fps ever. in fact i had to write this after i bought it because so many people are dissing it. take my advice if you are looking at buying this dont pay attention to those people saying its bad. it has got to be the best fps ever and one more thing dont play it on easy if you want to beat it cause you can only beat it on hard or medium and watch out for Dark arena 2 because once you beat it it mentions a sequel.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Shooter for the Advance
I had seen screens/previews of this game before the Game Boy Advance came out. The Advance came out, and it wasn't til about two years later that I actually got one. Soon enough I got this game. I was planning to get Duke Nukem Advance, but they didn't have it where I checked, and I ended up getting this one.

This game, supposedly, plays like Doom. I haven't played the classic Doom, but this game feels like an old school shooter nonetheless. And that's partly what I like about it, is the no-frills action of it. a pure and simple shooter, of sorts. It's a very different feel from a lot of the games nowadays that get bogged down in storylines you could care less about, games that have cutscenes, games where you have to manage inventories, games where... just, I don't know. This game is easy to go into and just play.
The difficulty begins to ramp up pretty quickly, around the fifth level.
I recommend this game to fans of shooters. I so far have enjoyed it.
The graphics disappointed me at first - the screenshots look better than the game does when playing, perhaps, because when it runs, some of the textures blur and become distorted. It runs fairly smoothly, though. I assume the graphics are still decent if not good for Game Boy Advance. However I haven't played any other first person shooters on the system.
My favorite level so far has been this one where you were in a sort of "arena" and there were these big monster.. things. It was fun strafing around firing rockets at them. yes, a rocket launcher. this game has some decent weapons. There are also some large robotic type enemies.
The only complaint I could have is that I don't like a few of the monsters - they occasionally seem generic or uninspired. then again, I think a lot of the enemies in id's games seem uninspired, too.
If only they would make a mech game for game boy advance...
p.s. the lack of an in game save is not a big deal to me. several game boy advance games use a password save, and to me it's not a big deal. it doesn't take long to input a password. plus you have the advantage of getting someone else's password to advance if you're stuck. :) not that I'd do that, of course. of course...

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very good, Just kind of drags on and on
I bought this game only beacuse it was on sale an it was probably a mistake. you can beat it in a few hours and there are better games out there for GBA that are first person shooters. Like "Doom" is a good one or "Duke Nukem Advance." These one are more exciting. Dark Arena has a good story line however you don't really get to participate in the main points of the game. i paid about $15.00 for it which is about how much it is worth. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.
This game was not what I expected at all.I am a fan of the Xbox version so, when I played this version, I was very disappointed. The story line is totally different from Turok:Evolution on the Xbox. The gameplay is ok, graphics are ok. It might be ok for some but I was just so disappointed that it was so different from the Xbox version

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good for the most part
The only thing that Turok Evolution for the GBA has in common with its' console bretheren is the game title, but if you played any other Turok game for the older GameBoy systems than you would have expected that already. This side scrolling surprisingly hard action title is very reminiscent of Neo-Geo's Metal Slug series of 2-D side scrolling action shooters in terms of gameplay, and the is reminiscent of Konami's classic Contra series in terms of difficulty and unending onslaught of enemies. You get to pick to play as either Turok or Djunn and go through 20 action packed levels with guns blazing racing towards the end of the level just trying to survive. You'll come across hordes and hordes of human, alien, and dinosaur enemies; all of whom will no doubt score plenty of hits against you until you hit them back. The fourth level in each area pits you against a boss and changes the game viewpoint to a semi-first person mode (similar to arcade shooters like Silent Scope and Time Crisis) where you must line up crosshairs to defeat some very big bosses. If you can get past the unrelenting difficulty you'll find some pretty good gameplay with Turok Evolution; the graphics are pretty well rendered, the sound is standard GBA fare, and the controls are tight. All in all, this is a better game than I thought it would be.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like this fun and aggressive contra-style game
Summary: Turok Evolution feels a lot like super contra in the arcade years back. Players can get lots of weapons and use them to destroy lots of bad guys.

Players choose one of two characters to play as in this side-scrolling shooter. I love contra and metal slug style games, and I really like this game too. I am happy gameboy advance offers this game.

Gameplay: The two characters are similar. One is a Native American-his secondary weapon is an axe he can throw. The other character is a muscular rough and tough looking guy-his secondary weapon is a chain with a blade on the end that he swings out at bad guys. He can use this chain to hang from many ceilings. While hanging he can rock back and forth and then let go to fly forward. It's useful to reach some places.

The game plays fast and intense. I think its a ton of fun. Enemies spawn often, and it's fun to destroy them. Weapons include a pistol, machine gun, flame thrower, laser, heavy machine gun, shotgun, and rocket launcher. Players can also find a more powerful version of each gun. In the same order as the weapons, their powered-up versions are laser pistol, 3-way gun, green flame thrower with more power and longer reach, reflective laser, super heavy machine gun, 2-way shotgun that fires green flame, and homing rocket.
Weapons are found throughout the levels, and players can pick them up to add them to their arsenals.

Aside from running, players climb ladders and jump over pits and boulders while destroying enemies.

Occasionally a level is viewed from behind the character's shoulder like the terminator 2 arcade game. Players move a crosshairs to shoot bad guys. I like these occasional levels; they add some nice variety.

Graphics: I like the graphics. Most guns look great when they fire. THe shotgun expels a brilliant flame as it fires, and the three-way gun fires flashing bluish green lasers. THe rockets and regular pistol look good, but I expected more flair because contra in the arcade had more flair. THe bullets are yellow balls, and the rockets look like rockets, but they don't look ultra powerful to me.

THe foregrounds are nice with barracks, boulders, jungles, street lights, city streets, and other cool stuff.

The backgrounds look sharp; I really like the city level; I think it's the third level.

The characters and enemies look good, they could look a little sharper; I don't have a clear sense of their animations or bodies.

Overall I think the graphics do a good job; they work for me.

Sound: THe sound isn't bad, but it's not wonderful. Right now, I can't remember specific toons, but when I play, the music adds to the aggressive feelings I enjoy when I play.

Sound effects are fun, but do not stand out in my memory. I was hoping for deeper gun sound effects; many of them have a flat bang sound, and I was hoping for more exotic gun sound effects. I do like both shotgun sound effects.
