5-0 out of 5 stars The new Tetris Attack.
I love puzzle games. If there's any one genre I like above all, it'd have to be the puzzle genre. Sure, there's a lot of bad ones out there that never get anywhere, but so many of them stand the test of time, and are still played today. Tetris, Bust-a-Move, Tetris Attack, Chu Chu Rocket, Puyo Pop, and even It's Mr. Pants are all played by many, and continue with new releases that people still buy. Who knew that a game with a bunch of blocks falling around would go on to be the best selling game of all time? But in comes the new kid on the block: Puzzle Fighter. While it's a port of the PSone version, it's still fun and addictive. It does have a minor problem that would have me reduce the score to 4.5 stars if I could, but it's just so damn fun that I can't resist the 5 star rating.

Super Puzzle Fighter II is essentially Puyo Pop and Tetris Attack combined, but with Street Fighter characters thrown in for added charm. 2-tile blocks of color fall down, and you create huge gems out of them, only to eradicate them with a shining block of a certain color. Example- you make a big blue gem...and the next piece to fall down is a regular green/shining blue piece. Have the shining blue piece hit the big blue gem, and it disappears. Continue doing this, and use strategy to destroy multiple ones at the same time to chain combos together, defeating your opponent. Yeah, it sounds a little silly, and it kind of is. But you don't notice it while playing because your eyes are glued to the screen, not blinking, trying your best to not lose. And while it sounds easy, the CPU is pretty tough, even on the easy difficulty with the difficulty stars on the option menu toned all the way down. That CPU uses strategy I tell ya. Something some people I've played against in previous puzzle games never used. The main mode of the game is the Arcade Mode. It's the basic mode we all know from any puzzle game. Go through the game and beat all the characters, and even a secret boss one at the end, not immediately selectable from the beginning. It starts out very easily, but then the computer kicks in with that strategy I was talking about. Like having all the blocks on one side of the box, and letting them just stack up so they have pleanty of room to make huge gems. Expect to lose a lot when they do this. You'll just have to be quicker on the draw. There's also a Versus Mode, which I haven't really played since no one else around here has a GBA or doesn't like puzzle games. But from what I've read, it's the same as Arcade, only against another person...'kinda obvious there. Lastly is the Street Puzzle Mode. Here you can win some cool prizes for beating very tough 1-match rounds. Things you get include different colors for the characters, new win poses, music collections, voice collections, illustrations (very low-resolution though), and collections of animations. It's worth the effort to get all of these. Also, you can get the codes for the secret characters, including Akuma. He's even more menacing in chibi-ized form than he is normal.

So what's the minor problem? Now that I think about it, there's two, one being much smaller than the other. I'll get that one out of the way first, and it's an obvious one- the sound isn't the best. Voices sound good for a cart-based system and all, but they get fuzzy from time to time, as does the soundtrack. I'm not really complaining, and it doesn't take away from the gameplay...but they could've touched it up slighly better. The bigger problem is that black screen of death, as it's called by some. This has only happened once to me, but while playing, the screen will go black...and nothing happens. Pressing buttons won't make it go away, and you'll have to turn the game off/on again. Because of this, I don't play for too long at a time (a half hour tops) for fear of losing all my prizes that I fought for in the Street Puzzle mode.

The graphics are pretty good, and look identical to the PSone version, save the low-resolution illustration collection. Animations are great, and there's a lot of detail in the characters. I was actually impressed that they looked this good on the small GBA screen. Even the Capcom logo animation before you even get to the game's title screen looks great. It's from the PSone days where it'd show up all flashy. And as I mentioned above, the sound is alright. It could've been touched up more, but it gets the job done.

If you need a good puzzle game while on the go, or one to play against someone else on the GameBoy Player for GC, Puzzle Fighter II should be at the top of your list. It's one of few games I can think of that keep me coming back for more to outdo my previous ranks in the game. Here's hoping for a Third Strike version, and that they implament the characters even more for added chaos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Consider the technology involved
Loved it on the PS1, love it here. There are some reviews out there that knock the port for its lower quality music. I say consider the technology involved. Do you really think you can get CD quality music that spans over 500 MB on an original PS1 CD (still more than a cartridge can hold if the music is compressed) in a 5 to 30 MB cartridge? If you think you can without sacrificing sound quality or the quality of the game itself then yes, there is a Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny does poop out painted chicken eggs to celebrate the ressurrection of the Christ.

Other than that (heh) the game holds up on the portable format. If you wanted music then buy the soundtrack to the game. If you want one of the most addictive Tetris clones available, buy this. Yes, I too get skeptical when people make pronouncements like that, but in this case it's true. Yet another puzzle game to take with you on plane/train/car/bus trips.

One of the reviewers here is right though. In Street Puzzle mode the computer seems to be moving that much faster than you and there's no hope of winning unless you randomly set down pieces (because eventually their will be masses of colored blocks that will bust). But you can win.

BTW, don't trust Vijay Boyapati to give an honest review. I am not a Capcom shill as he says. I'm simply reviewing on the game's merits and he sees fit to attack the other reviewers simply because they don't agree with him (which really pisses me off). I haven't had the chance to try the two player mode but I find the rest of the game fun. Is it an exact port of the PSOne version? No! Gee, now I wonder why. To give the game a 2 out of 5 stars just because he didn't like the two player mode is dishonest and I wouldn't trust his reviews at all. Get a second opinion.

Proper criticism doesn't complain and not explain.

4-0 out of 5 stars totaly awesome game my fav!!!!!!!!!!!!!
super puzzle fighter 2 turbo is one of the best games of all time!!!!!!!! but make sure you get it on playstation, much better gameplay and effects

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my most favorite games ever
No doubt about it, its a great game.I never have had any memory bugs as in the other reviews, I have completed all of the challenges, and they are still saved months later. The learning curve is pretty big, but once you learn it, its awesome. If ya wanna try the arcade one, get a CPS2 system emulator and download the rom (although I can't say I did this, I know it exists).Pay attention to the learning video, and always just work on combos, and don't break little blocks, and lay pieces very fast.I wish there was someone here at my university that played it, I could go on for hours playing this. For an added challenge, try to beat the game with Dan (something I did on hard mode last night), or unlock master mode and go at it on there (not the toughest thing in the world).Although, I do feel master mode w/ Dan will never happen over here.

5-0 out of 5 stars a really really really fun game
It is true. This game has a ton of programming flaws.I can't count the times that my saved data has been deleted.Infact, it's happened so many times that I don't even try to complete any of the street puzzles anymore. As well, there's a lot of game play issues, like gems jumping straight to the bottom, even though this is very rare, and the multi play is littered with problems. But, in spite of all these problems, I still love this game.the learning curve is HUGE, and I've played almost every day since the title came out and it's still challenging.Anyone looking for a challenge? You'll find it right here, and believe me, you won't be disapointed. ... - Great gameplay
- Link-able
- Awesome and valuable promo cards
- You can build a deck
- Do many dueling challanges
- Go to tournaments
Great overall!

Detailed Reveiw: In this game, you can duel and unlock other duelists. They are skilled and dont just play any random card. Each time you win, you win a booster pack. You can construct a deck with the cards you have in the game.If you have a Gameboy connection cable, you can vs. your friends and trade. They have tournaments in the game which require you to duel on a certain condition like only usaing monsters, using no effect monsters, only using monsters with low attack, and more fun tournament. In order to beat the game you must complete the rare hunter challenge, all the tournaments, beat all the duelists, and more. The graphics are great and this game uses the correct card rulings. The game comes with 3 overly used and abused promo cards.Valkerion the Magna Warrior which can stay at a whooping 3500 ATK or have 3 monsters with 1400-1700 ATK power and it is good because you can use in a situation you need a powerful monster or a situation you need 3 monsters (quantity or quality when you need it) Rating: 3/5.Sinister Serpent which goes back to your hand on a standby phase it is in your graveyard meaning, you can use it for plenty discarding costs, infinite defense, metamorphasis, ultra evolution pill, and hundreds of more combos Rating: 5/5.Harpie's Feather Duster which can blow away all of the opponent's magic and trap cards meaning, getting rid of threats and has no cost Rating 5/5.The cards sell for about 70 bucks together and the game is priceless.WORTH THE VALUE!

5-0 out of 5 stars IT USES THE REAL RULES!!!
I liked this game alot (LIKED cuz my GBA SP was stolen and i had to sell all my games for it) because it actually goes by the real rules. I like to play the card game so this was very good practice 4 me. i just didn't like it that the card sets only went up to LOB. other games like forbidden Mem. dont go by the actual card game rules, and that bothered me alot. that is why i liked this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the best
I have played a lot of Medabots online and GBA games, along with Medabots Infinity. This is the best of them all. If I had a dime for evey minute I loved playing this, I would be richer than Donald Trump. The only bad part about this game, and I MEAN ONLY is the issue with needing special medaparts for certain obstacles. Ex: You need a "Plate Beam" to melt this door. And it ends up you don't have one so you Robattle for an hour trying to get one. But thats about it. I love cranking up the maon theme and pumping up the noise on the game: Here's my rates (outa 10)

Music:
8/10

Graphics:
7/10

Storyline:
9/10

Gameplay:
10/10 (It's very clever)

Also, on top of this, I love how you can make a medabot what ever you want. Medabee head, Bayonet Legs, Medabee Left Arm, Bayonet Right Arm, whatever you want. And I love the idea of how you can use Medaforce before everyone else which adds to the cleverness of the game. The downside is really only the stalls, and maybe how the game is slow in some parts. But I give this game a very good rating:

Buy, Buy, Buy, BUY IT!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
This game is so cool. It is one of the best games ever. If you really like Role Playing Games than this game is for you. It has good graphics, good music, and it is SSSSSSSUPER fun. You may get stuck at point but just keep on trying and you will win.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED
THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER, I got it for X-MAS and it is the best game I have, even now it is my favorite GBA game my friend wanted to borrow it (and he lives 250 miles away) the best thing is the graphics!!!!! I would give it a ten star but that is not an option.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ummmmm.... and??????
This game at first seems fun. Then you find out that there are only two types of enemys that pop up every 10 steps. Then you just get bored and play this game mindlessly hoping it will end soon. This game will offer about seven hours of gameplay..... if you're willing to play that long.

Sound 2/5
I don't even remember the music

Graphics 3/5
Nothing spectaculor.

Gameplay 3/5
The battles are too slow..... even on fast mode.(don't even try it on slow)

Lifespan 0/5
It just gets boring.

Overall 2/5
Not worth your money. Heed my warning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Medabot game ever!!
This is a great game, the only problem for me is that I'm stuck on this race against a Medabot. My brother has the other version, and we both agree this is the best Medabot game yet. I like how you go around places like amusment parks and and how you can make tons of Medabots. You should really buy this game. Also you can have a total of three Medabots, but my favorite part is that you can have more then 1 Medaforc. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indeed a Great Game
Mech Platoon is a very good game that provides challenging levels, but fun never less; it does not play like advance wars whereas it plays real-time. You start by choosing one of the three teams, Leon, Minos, and Trampler. In the game you don't start out with the power to build all of the units, you acquire them by gathering parts that you salvage from missions, giving a new twist to the game. The units in the game have special abilities, which give it power over enemy units, for example it your unit you control has Assault - slay, the unit has more power when fighting close combat units. There are six buildings in the game plus one secret one, each of them can build, upgrade, or defend, however the seventh one... I won't give the secret away. As the game progresses the game gets harder and harder and the enemy units get smarter. But overall this game is a worth it, I suggest you to buy it because it's great, but it is hard to find in stores.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game- couple of problems though
15 hours

GREAT GAME!!!!!

Even though there is several problems with it, I really liked this game. The graphics are great, and the intro movie is amazing. I think thats the best graphics I have ever seen on GBA.

Gameplay- The computer AI could have used a lot more work. It is rather dumb, but sometimes it is hard to win just because of the sheer numbers that it has. Also, once you select a unit and you send it somewhere, it becomes unselected. That gets annoying sometimes when you miss your target. I like the grouping idea though. I thought the whole unit system was the best part of the game. Its great- you can have over 40 different units to select from. I give gameplay a 4 out of 5 stars.

Sound- The music is the worst part of the entire game. Sometimes it gets so annoying that you shut it off, then you cant hear the sound effects. I like the explosions and the laser shots, but man the music could have used some work. I've heard Gameboy Color music thats better. I give music 2 out of 5 stars.

Graphics- The graphics are great; not the greatest, but they are better than average. And I just have to give this 4.5 out of 5 because of the intro move- you'll really like it.
I give Graphics 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Replay value- Yes. After you finish the campaign mode, you can play w/ your friends or play the computer.
I give Replay value a 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall a great buy, but it is possible to overpay for it. I hope they come out with a Mech Platoon 2 and fix some of the problems it has right now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Portable fun for an RTS fan
I would buy this game, but ONLY if you like real time strategy games.Don't look at just the stars for some of those 1 star reviews, because those complaints could be said about any RTS game.Ok so the AI could be a little dumb sometimes, but that is what a link mode is for and yes the missions could be better.

If you don't like the genre, don't buy the game, If you like the genre, go ahead and buy it

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what i hoped
I expected a game that was fun and kept me entertained. I was right. The game has a little differnent campaign mode depending on the group you choose. and always had a challenge. The game was easy to understand and quick to get going so it keeps you going for hours at a time. The game has 3 groups to pick from for campaign mode. The game it self lastes to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours if your just doing one of the groups.

3-0 out of 5 stars it is ok
i thought that the game was lots of fun, but too hard. if you love command and conquer, this is a must have. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best GBA Games
ZOE: The Fist of Mars is easily one of the best Game Boy games ever made. The story is intriguing as are the characters. The graphics are very good during Battle Sequences and cut scenes. For any fan of anime series with giant robots, some romantic elements and plot twists, this is one game you have to buy. Even if you're not a big fan of anime, this game is still worth your money. Outside of the battle sequences, primarily in the map, the graphics aren't very good. The landscapes are not well made. Most of the scenarios are also simple, destroy all enemies maps. There is also a hands-on element called the IAS which allows you to go inside the cockpit of your vehicle to either dodge or hit an enemy vehicle. While this can become tedious and prolongs the fight, you can turn this off along with battle animations, which brings me to the next point in this game. The battle sequences are amazing and are some of the best elements in this game. The scene shows a highly detailed animation of your vehicle performing its attack. The game runs HEAVILY on story and plot, and players who don't like to read and want to get right down onto the battlefield should NOT buy this game. To enjoy it the most, you must have PATIENCE and read through all the scenes.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think this is a very enjoyable game
addmittedly, once you can aim well it is a little easy but it is still really, really fun.get it if you don't have anything else to get. : )

4-0 out of 5 stars For Anime/Mech fans.
This game is classified as strategy, yet the game takes no strategy to win. The game is VERY easy even for people who have never played strategy games before. The enemies are very easy to beat and the missions usually consist of "Eliminate the Enemy" objectives. In addition, the IAS system (which is basically a targeting minigame) basically lets you choose whether or not you want to be hit or hit the enemy. If you use the IAS all the way through the game you can beat the game without ever getting hit once. The only problem is that the IAS becomes tedious and annoying, so you'll turn it off midway, and the game will still be a piece of cake.

So why did this game win a place in my hcollection? Because it's absolutley beautiful. The battle animations are wonderful and very pleasing to the eye. The mech designs are very cool, and you grow to care for each one, like a collector's item. The battlefields are well detailed as well. The CG pics are far and few inbetween, but put the cherry on the sundae. And to top it with sprinkles, Konami added an amazing musical score to the game, making you feel each part of the game through the music. When a hyper-insane mad-scientist is burning down a city, the music depicts the atrocity and horror through the music, making you all the more eager to stop him.

But the main draw is the story. The game is played through a mission-by-mission basis, but seems more like episodes to an amine series. The game starts out with lots of mysteries and finishes off with 2 different endings, making the game even more replayable. The dialouge inbetween missions help you relate to and get to know the characters and you actually care for what happens to them next. Not many plot-twists, but the story remains constantand well contructed till the end. Very little cheesiness here. My favorite part of the dialouge are the character portraits that come up when a each charater is talking. Each character has 3-8 pics for different emotions, and they are beautifully drawn. The story itself is very well translated and flows smoothly.

So click "Add to cart", and get yourself some headfones too, because this is a theatrical experience for any anime fan, but too easy for a strategy buff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Depends on the player
After reading all the reviews, and playing the game five or six times, I have come to a conclusion.

You must enjoy anime and /or manga as well as plot to enjoy this game.

I read about ZOE in a magazine, and it stood out. I decided to pick it up a few weeks later, and I played through the entire game in a matter of weeks.
This videogame has extroadinarily long cut scenes, followed by midlength battle sequences. If you like story, great, if you like alot of shooting, not so great.

Don't pay attention to the E status on there, this has quite a few swears, and some adult situations, though you must understand that all of it is written.

I must urge those who say this game has no replay value to try it again. I have played three times so far, and I have gotten two different endings, though I am sure there are more.

If you want a videogame from Nintendo that encompasses all the aspects of life that people like to glaze over, death,..., and sorrow, then get it. I did, and found one of the only games by Nintendo of it's kind.

3-0 out of 5 stars SpongeBob Squarepants
This game is okay, so far as games go. It does get tiresome having to remember a code to get to where you left off, instead of saving it like you can with Mario, etc.

I think the makers of this game could have done better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!
My only problem with this game is it's way of continuing. Why should you have to write a password down?!That's dumb. Why should you not be able to just save and load? Why should you have to go to so much trouble? That's rediculous!I hope you editors read these reviews. If you do, then you'll know what to watch out for next time.Because this is so stupid I can't even believe it.The game falls short of perfect because of one thing!ONE THING!I'm tellin' ya.You shouldn't EVER [...] make a game where you're forced to use passwords. What kind of service is that?THat makes me so mad!

4-0 out of 5 stars Needs a save faeture, not passwords!
Awesome 2D version, great graphics, sound, gameplay (other then the fact that you have to use passwords instead of a real save feature), and bosses!

i like spongebob and this game isn't so challengeing i got done it in a week,or so now it is pretty fun though now that i think about it, it kind of gets harder as you go to diffrent levels, but if you want a stratgeny game i recommend MEGAMAN BATTLE CHIP CHALLENGE,but this spongebob game is good for young and old!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ty 2
*This is my first encounter with Ty the Tasmanian Tiger games, and I say this game is great! The sound is really good and the graphics are pretty good. Some parts get frustrating and you just want to turn it off, but when you try one more time, you unlock new levels or discover a new hidden tunnel to opals. Why, does Ty have to get liscenses to use bunnyips? That sucks!Well, to all you new Ty fans, definitely give Ty 2 a chance!!*

5-0 out of 5 stars This game will be ausome!!!!!
If you have Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 1 you know what I'm talking about. Number two will be out of this world!!! I can't wait 'till this comes out.I hope it's better than the first.P.S.All the TTT fans, buy this game!!!(TTT= Ty the Tasmanian Tiger)

4-0 out of 5 stars the games will be great
I'm going to buy it based on the first game. I have the first game on the PS. It is awsome! The grapics are great, the music goes with the settings and Ty ( the main character is a great kung-fu fighter for a tiger) I would recommend this game for boys mostly. For tom boys, you might enjoy the game. There are pros and cons though.

Pros:
great music
great graphics
great focus as it should
keeps you busy for hours
something like Morat Combat but only with animals

Cons:
one player only

Some over all, if you have "ty the warth of the tiger" and you like it you might love this. If you like kung-fu and that kind of stuff you will love this game. As soon as it come out I'm getting it on GBA and PS2! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Game... Good Times
Wow! What a wonderful journey you take on this game. If you liked the movie, you will ove the game. It is full of tricks secrets and wonders. Everytime you play it, you discover something new, therfore, it doesn't get old after you beat it. The best satge is when you discover Carpet and you go on a wild ride in the collapsing Cave of Wonders. i would recommend this game for anyone who likes adventure. It takes some skill but it can be played by everyone, young, old, boy or girl. This is a great buy, full of enchantment... :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Review the GAME, NOT release dates / frustration!
C'mon people- this is a very fun game.Don't give it bad reviews because you're upset it wasn't for sale when you wanted.I just picked up this game tonight and it's as fun as the original SNES version! It looks exactly the same, and I don't see any differences. It plays very well on the GBA and I'm having a blast re-living it!I always loved playing Aladdin, the backgrounds are fun, the controls are easy, and it's enjoyable!

It's actually $24.99 at Toys R Us, so don't pay more than that.

You'll have many fun hours with this game....enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Another Classic takes a beating!
I recently imported this game and WAS planning on buying the English version, if and when it comes out.A word of WARNING:The Japanese and EURO versions have taken out the music 'A whole NEW WORLD' and 'A FRIEND LIKE ME' and Replaced it with new tunes. This may, or may not be the reason it's taking so long to come out.THere are some new stages that are short, but fun.Still once again the video game makers of today have somewhat ruined a classic from the SNES days. It's still better then the horrible Sega version though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Discounted Games Website
Go to this website for cheaper video games !!!www.gbastore.com.For the new Aladdin game, not yet release here in the U.S.,that advertised for around $29, on that other website it is only $19.99 !!!! For the Tom & Jerry game that is advertised here for $29.99, on that site it is ONLY $8.99. They have BOTH the English version and Japanese version, so make sure you select English !

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait!
a dream come true for all die hard aladdin fans as well as all platformer fans. i hear this will be a juiced up version of the snes version. i am disappointed that it is taking so long for the release, but i would rather have the company get the game right as opposed to rushing out a mediocre product. i hope there will be more aladdin games, especially one for the PS2. enjoy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great game for a 6 year old!!!
I bought my daugther this game for her 6th birthday and so far it is her favorite. She picked it up right away and it's easy for her to do! She also got the Barbie Princess and Pauper game, the Nicktoons Freeze Frame, and Disney Princess game and this one is much easier than all of them. I even enjoy playing it!

3-0 out of 5 stars difficult for beginners
This game is an ok game, like others have said, for younger kids its a bit difficult. One thing tho yoiu do not hae to write down the password after each level, just when you decide you want to stop. This way when you turn the gameboy back on you can get back to where you left off.Dora just needs the glasses to get past the bush or whatever is blocking her path and then you can take them off and see clearly. It is necessary to get al the crystals which can be pretty difficult for the usual Dora fan.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Hard for Younger Gamers, Get Pirate Pigs Game instead!
Super Spies opens with screen shots of Dora and friends telling you what the problem is and what you're going to need to do in written form.So if you're kids don't read yet, they just get some SILENT pictures to button press thru. Then the game starts, and they need to be able to watch for the backpack image in the corner of the sceen, and then know to press it, find the right item, and continue. The first item she needs is glasses so she can see hidden ways thru shrubs or objects. The problem is that with the glasses on it's hard to tell what's happening.Once you finally finish a level, you need to write down a password to save your place.UGH.I was hoping for cute Dora music, and easier game play since Dora is really aimed at the preschoolers.Game has annoying repetitive "game" beeping sounds, but not Dora music, with the exception of "I'm the map" everytime you advance to the map section.Big Bummer.I then bought the Pirate Pig game for Dora and it has what I was looking for!Music & easier gamelay! So pass on this and get the Pirate game! You'll be glad you did!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too hard for young Dora fans
This game is rather simple in theory but it seems to be very hard to get the characters to do what they are supposed to do. Every time you complete a level, you receive a password that must be written down in order to remember it. Maybe we just had a bum game, but half of the time even we entered the password correctly, it would say that it was unacceptable. This game is rated E for everyone but considering that most Dora fans are ages 3-7, I feel that this game is too advanced for Dora fans. Our four year old couldn't play it. Shoot, even mom and dad had a hard time! I'd say pass on this one! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING!
Being a Disney fan I thought this game would be cute.I was wrong. If I wanted to jump around a game board with no reward I would play an actual board game. You are lucky to win one mini game every 15 turns. You also have to be linked to another gameboy to even get the mini games. This game needs to advertise that you need 2 gameboys and 2 players or more to have the least bit of fun.Otherwise you are pointlessly jumping around a game board.I can't believe its a $30 game.I have way more fun with my $10 Ninja Turtle game.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what it appears to be
Beware the false advertising on this game's box!I bought it because it looked like a portable, Disney version of Mario Party.Based on the box, it LOOKS like you play on a game board with a few other players, and then frequently stop to play minigames. That would be great, wouldn't it?Unfortunately, that's not what this game is.

There is a game board, and you do play against a few other computer players. But get this--there are NO MINIGAMES in that game mode.It is one of the worst, most boring games I have ever played, no exaggeration.Instead of playing minigames, in the board game mode, you are trying to reach the next "attraction," which is a very bare-bones, low-quality side-scrolling platforming game level! And, in the cruddy bare-bones platforming levels, you're not competing against any of the other characters--you are throwing bombs (which somehow float behind you--that's how you carry them) at a handful of pathetic enemies and trying to collect a few stars. These poor excuses for levels, or minigames, or whatever they are intended to be are also ridiculously short.AND, instead of playing one of these levels every turn, you will be lucky if you get to play ONE during a whole game.If you can get to the "attraction" before the computer, within the ridiculously short period of time that you have to get there, you can play the level. What happens more often is that you move around pointlessly on the game board for the whole game, while the computer does way better than you (and has all the fun).Isn't this game supposed to be for kids?I guess the developer thinks that kids like to lose.

The only way to play minigames in this game is to link to another Gameboy and play against a live person head-to-head.But then, there are very few minigames available, and to GET them, you have to beat the normal mode of the game (with the stupid game board and the "attractions") over and over.It just isn't worth the time.

So, obviously this game wouldn't appeal to adults--but don't buy it for your kids, either. It is simply a badly-made game, and apparently no one stops to consider that, since it is a "kids'" title. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MegaMan meets Rocket Knight Adventures.
I doubt many people will remember that game, but Rocket Knight Adventures was a great Genesis game in the mid-90's. You played as an opossum knight with a rocket pack. Some levels had you running around, platforming and bustin' up the bad guys. Others were strictly side-scrolling flying/shooter levels. Upon playing Astro Boy here, that's what it reminded me of. It was fun back then, and it's still fun now. While you might be turned off by a game about Astro Boy, who isn't exactly what most would consider a cool idea for a game character, you can rest assured that this is a fun game that has tons of things that make you come back for more. For a handheld game, this sucker is pretty long. Especially considering it's not one of the GBA's many rpg ports.

The game starts out with a brief story of why Astro Boy was created. We then go through a training level where you learn all of his useful moves. From the simple jump, punch and kick to the finger laser and rocket dash. He even has 3 special attacks: the arm cannon, machine gun and EX Dash. The arm cannon is a beefed up version of the finger laser, taking out tons of enemies at once directly in front of you. But, you can be hit from behind, canceling out the attack completely. The machine gun stuns more powerful enemies and takes out the weaker ones most of the time. It's a great set up for bosses, stunning them and then busting out the arm cannon. Finally is the EX Dash, which isn't -that- useful compared to the other two, but it can be used as an extra boost for those hard-to-reach places, or to go through larger enemies later on in the game. What was impressive was that each of Astro's moves do come in handy on a regular basis. There were some levels where I had to use the EX Dash instead of the arm cannon because a massive stone was rolling my way. But after the basics, Astro goes to the city where someone's been kidnapped. Leave it up to the do-gooder robot to serve justice. The rest of the story can be complicated, as there are many supporting characters you meet along the way, some of which double-crossing you. It's nice to see that a lot of time went into not only the gameplay, but the story as well. I won't bother to give you the details after the first level, because there are A LOT of things that happen. At one point, you'll even fight farm animals in a bouncing tire. And the "ending" was a total shock, something I didn't see coming at all. But fortunately, there was much more. After this, there's a stage select mode, but you have to go through the stages one more time as part of the story. And you know what? I didn't care. The gameplay was so much fun that I enjoyed going back. Kicking enemies into others, knocking them around the screen. Taking out waves of oncoming robots with the finger laser one after the other. Thinking up quicker ways to take out the bosses, getting higher scores, sometimes not even getting hit. There was so much to do.

There are 2 more key elements in the game that are related to eachother. Meeting characters, and raising your stats. The Omega Factor is a part of Astro that takes note of everyone he meets, making him stronger. Usually after meeting someone (not all the time though), you can raise one stat for Astro. Health, Punch, Laser, Machine Gun, Sense and Rockets. All of these are important to making gameplay easier. Well, excetp Sense. You really only need to boost that once and ignore it until you've maxed out everything else. Health doesn't need an explanation, Punch raises the strength of your physical attacks, Laser raises how long it fires while holding the 'B' button during flying stages and how stong it is overall (including the arm cannon), Machine Gun strengthens its attack and how long it stuns enemies, Rockets allow you to dash in the air more times in a row, and Sense just lets you see in the dark. The cool thing about the rocket dash is that it lets you go past enemies and attacks. It might not seem important at first, but it's a very important stat to raise. Especially early in the game if you're playing on Hard mode. Yes, this game can be difficult at times. Some enemies kill Astro in one hit, other times you'll be overwhelmed with the enemies that you'll fall down once you get back up from an attack. And hard mode, for most people, makes it worse. I didn't have a problem myself, as I boosted the Rocket and Health stats right away, but the AI can get cheap at times. Some bosses get faster even, giving you less time to recover from an attack.

Graphically, Treasure did a great job as usual. There's rarely any slowdown, regardless of how many enemies appear on-screen. The arm cannon looks great, and reminded me of some of MegaMan's charged up blasts. Astro has very fluid movement, and there's some good detail that went into the enemies and backgrounds. No complaints here. The music...get this...there's a soundtrack for this game. Yes, a GBA game has its own soundtrack. That's how good it is. While you'd do better to play the game on the DS since it isn't stuck with one speaker, the music is still enjoyable on the GBA. A lot of tracks are memorable, and I still hum along some of the music that plays during cutscene where Astro talks to others. Sound effects are just as enjoyable, ranging from painful sounding crushes to high-pitched lasers.

I'm glad I picked up Astro Boy: The Omega Factor. I haven't had as much fun playing a straight up GBA game (no SNES/Genesis ports) as I did here. Even after beating it on Normal and Hard modes, I still go back for more. Making sure to get all the characters and going for the high score. Trust me, it's addicting. And I should make note that this is the first GBA game since Puzzle Fighter where I've played for more than a half hour at a time. No playing for a few minutes, shutting it off, and coming back to it later. I wanted to keep playing. And that doesn't happen much with handhelds for me. If I had the GameBoy Player for the GameCube, it'd be even worse. I probably would've beat it in one sitting. But pick up this game while you can. It's published by Sega, so you can expect it to vanish before the end of the year. Show some support for them, and Treasure, another fantastic company.

4-0 out of 5 stars Astro Boy going for gold
As a review once said, it's worth getting a GBA just to play this game. From the very first level, there is a satasfaction with kicking robots into each other, before wading in with your cannon and blowing them to bits. The gameplay itself is very well done, although some of levels can get tedious at times. A nice feature is meeting the characters and gaining more power, as well as reading about them once collected. The bosses are very well programmed, you don't mind going back a 2nd time to lay waste to them again. Overall, a good game with the potential for a sequal.

4-0 out of 5 stars I would give it a perfect but
A nice a little game, but it's to short I still don't know how to fight that pegasus guy and I beat it twice on easy the story changed, but he still wasn't playable. Anyways it's probably the best side scroller I ever playedfor GBA he has seven special abilitys which you probably already know I might as will name them. Theres the arm cannon, sensors, fingerlaser, jets,he shoots bullets from his (...),his life, turbo attack. Also sometimes it temporarily slows down.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of My 10 Best Games of 2004...
While Astro Boy may not be one of the top animé franchises today here in the States, he sells like hotcakes over in the Land of the Rising Sun, where he's received fame status equivalent to that of the lovable Disney rodent Mickey Mouse. The little robot boy known as Astro was created by Dr. Tenma in memory of his son, Tobio, who was killed in a car accident. Raised by Dr. O'Shay, Astro has quickly become something of a moderator between humans and robots, with one group not entirely sure how to relate the other, except with fear. Through a series of events, Astro ends up at the heart of this struggle, and, through a dazzling number of plot twists, ends up in different realities and times in the war as well.

The game overall plays like a quirky beat-em-up, but because it's developed by the same team that headed the manic Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis, surprises are pretty much guaranteed. And Astro Boy delivers. If you're a fan of animé, beat-em-up video games, or even the famed Mega Man series, Astro Boy will not disappoint.

In defeating Astro's enemies that come in all shapes and sizes, you have a wide range of moves at your disposal. There is the standard punch-kick combo, a laser for attacking faraway enemies, and the cool boost jets on Astro's feet will allow you to zoom past your enemies, or dodge their attacks. As you attack, you also build up a super meter at the top of the screen that can be later used to power a variety of special moves.

In addition to the standard side-scrolling, beat-em-up action, Astro Boy does attempt to break things up every now and then with some horizontal-shooter-style gameplay, and even a few challenging mid-air battles.

Despite the game's wackiness (fighting through screens of tiny little men, for example), the plot takes itself seriously, and the difficulty remains very real, meaning that you will die a lot in this game before you get the hang of how exactly to kill each enemy. Near the end of the game, for instance, you do battle with a giant samurai robot that can kill you in one hit, so you must learn his attack patterns and know them from rote.

Perhaps the most notable aspect of the gameplay here is the ongoing quest during the game to meet as many people as you can. All of the characters in the game are creations of the mind behind Astro Boy, Tezuka Osamu. Meeting the various characters may or may not help the plot along, depending primarily on who you find and when you find them. However, when you do meet many of these hidden characters, you will be given a chance to boost your various abilities up one notch, so it's a good idea to find as many as you can throughout the game.

If you're fond of old-school-feeling games like the Contra series, Mega Man, and Final Fight, give Astro Boy: Omega Factor for the GBA a shot. And hey, the fact that you have to play through the thing at least twice to flesh out all of the story is a neat gimmick, and it really does add significantly to the total playtime. It's a solid title, and--from what I've heard--a lot better than its next-gen cousin.

4-0 out of 5 stars Charming but short
Astro Boy is a short but fun experience. Be aware when you plunk down your hard earned cash that this game can be won in an afternoon or two. The short play time is padded by having players repeat all the levels and sometimes visiting them a third time.

The game is a side scrolling platform/shooter. There are both walking and flying levels and by and large the control feels very good. The punching feels correct and the flying levels are well done. The bosses are old school. Some can be beaten in one attempt but others may require dozens of tries.

The one thing I enjoyed about the game was the general feel. I'm rather ignorant when it comes to Astro Boy and it was fun collecting the various characters from the series. The game even offers short bios including when characters appeared in the Anime and Manga. For instance tt was mentioned that the character of Red Duke has been reused by Astro Boy's creator Osamu Tezuka in other stories including the recent movie Metropolis. The character of Alejo is thought to be Osamu Tezuka himself.

The game has considerable charm and actually inspired me to learn more about Astro Boy but I just wish the game could have been longer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Portable Fun
This is a good game if you want to kill 30 minutes.

You must play the Texas Hold'em tables until you are eligible for World Championship poker. Then save the code.Once you have the code you can play with the "advanced" level of AI and have a more realistic version of poker.

The game is not perfect, but the ability to see the other players make it the most realistic version of poker out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fake cards!
My son played this game. Every hand, someone had at least trips, usually a straight or flush. There's no point playing this game if the game is faking the cards. You can't learn poker, and you can't even really play if the game is going to manufacture hands based on some hidden heuristic!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun to pass the time, but not for a serious player
Overall, I call this game mediocre. It's sort of fun, but there are several really annoying things about it.

The music is repeative, and the sound effects from your opponents (yells, coughs, screams, etc) are really, really dumb.I haven't found a way to turn them off yet, either, and am not sure that there is one other than the volume slider.

Second, the opponents are truly morons. They bet and bet heavily, rarely folding even with obviously losing hands. It's nearly impossible to bluff, as they almost always call. You can still lose quickly to them, but only because they make the stakes high and you may be dealt bad cards. If you fold when your cards stink, and wait for a good hand, in no time you will wipe them out.

I am a poor poker player, and just got this game 2 days ago, and have already won the World Championship and am up about 3.5 million dollars.Just to put things in perspective. It's high stakes against idiots. If you can get over that, the game is entertaining, unless you're good.

Third, while Hold'em is pretty well done, there are some oversights that make some of the other games unplayable. For example, draw poker and seven card stud are absolutely worthless. You have opponents that continue raising and betting, but you do not see how many cards they draw, and in the stud game there are no visible cards of your opponent.Maybe there's a trick into getting them shown, but I have left those tables and not been back, it is just not fun. It's playing in the dark, and just bad.

Another minor nit I have to pick is when you leave a table, the "map" of the casino always jumps back to the beginning, rather than remaining at the table you are at.So if you lose a round and want to return for another game, you have to navigate to the table again and again. It grows tiring for me to do repeative things, even when it's just 5 seconds or so.

Overall, the betting is unrealistic, the opponents are morons, the sound effects are tiring, but in a cartoonish sort of way it is still fun enough to play, at least as a kill-time until a better poker game comes out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great cartoon poker game
Far from a simulation, this is cartoon poker with four-person tables. The computer starts out easy to beat but does get more somewhat more difficult as you progress through the "career mode."The noises made by the "personalities" at the table - grunts and sighs, mostly - quickly reach the point of annoyance. If anyone else is within earshot, turn the sound off!The interface is clean and generally usable for poker, although the blackjack and video poker games are not nearly as well thought out (no re-bet button, for example, so you have to re-enter your bet each time.)It's whimsical and fun for what it is, but with this, Ultimate Card Games poker section, and the Texas Hold 'Em cart all having shortcomings, we're still waiting for the great hardcore poker game for the GBA.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tons of fun, especially multiplayer
This is a great game that not only lets you play Texas Holdem, Omaha Holdem, Five draw and Seven stud, but also includes Slots, Blackjack and Video Poker. You can also link up to other GBA owners and play poker with a link cable.(Your friend DOESN'T have to own the game, despite what it says on the box.)Great for airplanes, long commutes and, of course, TRIPS TO VEGAS! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Please Help!
The reason for the low star rating is because I cannot figure out how to get out of the first level! I can get past the first vile gemlette however once I "disable" the two gemlettes I have no idea what to do next! Can someone please help! I would probably score the game higher if the instructions were a little more clear on this. ... Read more
