5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutly Awsome!
This game is so much fun, and one of the mosty addictive games I have ever played, next to Final Fantasy X.At first it takes a while to understand how everything works, but it is worth it.I seriously could play this game for like 20 hours at a time, taking not pee breaks or for food.Buy it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars more addictive than... anything
I can play this game for hours on end.If I beat every map, I can just download more that other fans have made using the fantastic map editor.A great day includes playing this game with a few friends while drinking a Sobe and listening to Queens of the Stoneage.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it
I first played it at my friends house, me and my friend couldn't find the disc for civilisation 2 so we decided to play heroes 3, i thout it was real mad, now I want it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best computer games I've ever played
My short list of best computer games I've ever played:
Sims
Heroes III
Roller Coaster Tycoon

I am a 19 year old female who doesn't usually enjoy fighting games, but i do like fantasy. My only complaint for this game is that you need someone's IP address (or vice versa) to do multiplayer, and I've never quite been able to connect and play with someone over the internet. (I always get a message saying it can't connect) Maybe I'm just missing something obvious. But, I have enjoyed countless hours of fun with this game. its a great game to play with a friend or two, or three :) . this is a WONDERFUL strategy game, and has various difficulty levels (great for someone like me who doesnt want to deal with expert level, but doesnt always want it to be too easy). This game is well worth any money I paid for it. I have been playing this game for about four years now, and I still love it. Buy it!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes Of Might And Magic--and Beyond
Heroes III Complete is the best Heroes of Might and Magic game yet. This one has not only the original "Heroes III" (The Restoration of Erathia), but also includes both expansion packs (Armageddon's Blade and the Shadow of Death).

If you're new to the Heroes of Might and Magic series, then here's a quick overview. You start out with only one hero and only one town in a standard scenario. You can also hire more heroes once you've built a tavern. You can build different buildings in your town, but only one per day.Different buildings allow you to do different things, such as improve the fortification of your town, increase your weekly income in gold, learn different spells, and aquire troops for your army.Once you've built up a good army, you can go out and conquer land and other towns!

I like this even better than the Heroes IV game because it comes with a map editor and campaign editor. In the map editor, you can create your own world to play on, customizing everything down to the last little Gnoll Marauder. You can even customize the victory and loss conditions. The campaign editor allows you to string many maps together--custom and pre-made--into one campaign. This is a really good game. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Riddle of the Sphinx 1 and 2
I've played both games (although individually, not in this boxed set). They are very, very beautiful-looking games, and it's obvious that the designers did a LOT of research. There are a few minor glitches here and there, but I enjoyed them greatly.

In Riddle of the Sphinx, it's the year 2012, and internationally-famous archaeologist Sir Gil Geoffries has made a startling discovery at the Giza Plateau, where the Sphinx and Great Pyramid are located. He calls on you, his trusted colleague, to come and join him, but when you arrive, the camp is deserted. You have to search the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx to find out what happened to everyone.

The graphics are so detailed, I actually felt like I was desecrating the pyramid, wandering around, looking for clues. The puzzles are very interesting, sometimes frustrating. But the answers are all there.

[SPOILER: Only one thing bothers me - if the lost temple is out in the open like that, why didn't anyone spot it from the air?]

Riddle of the Sphinx 2 picks up moments after the end of RotS 1.Sir Gil has discovered a scroll that contains information linking several sites around the world. You have to travel to Stonehenge, Chichen Itza in Peru, Easter Island and the Devil's Triangle to piece together clues.Again, the graphics are beautiful, even better than in RotS 1. Some of the clues are a bit frustrating (I had to use the online walkthrough a couple of times), but well worth it.

My biggest complaint would be in the CD-ROMS.Yes, you have to shuffle discs. In RotS 1, it's not so bad since it doesn't take long to load. But in RotS 2, it takes a LONG time to load between locations, even when they're on the same disc!

At the end of RotS 2, it's hinted that there's a RotS 3 in the works.I can't find any information on it, though. But it's something worth looking into. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 3DO made a failure and a waste of money by making this game
Why did I buy this game? I need to find a good game, but when I turn to 3DO, I get a game which is ultimately boring, and is hardly understandable. This is why I would rate this stupid, dumb, game as a 1 (if I could I would make it a 0) out of 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game ever!!!
HOMM is awsome!A great strategy game.If you like Starcraft you will likely like this game. The game also has good graphics. The battles are very fun because you can't always move far enough to attack your enemies.I liked the turn part too.It makes it so you can't build a lot of troops to rush or something because you only can build one building per turn and you can't build unlimited troops because you can only build so many each week.Overall: A great game!

4-0 out of 5 stars A fantasy on your computer.
This is a very cool set. I tried the first one, but it's not very good when you look at HOMM2 & HOMM3. The graphics, gameplay, and units that are available are much better than the first one. The gameplay is very challenging and if you sit back and try to build up your forces, they are doing the same thing, and since they always have a head start on you, you are just settign yourself up for disaster. There are many scenarios to play and you can also just play a map against the computer if you want. Has map editor so you can make your own maps to play. This game can be replayed time after time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be careful, time really flies while you play this GREAT game
I have played many games with my kids and on my own in the past -- including the great Zelda series. This is by far the BEST of any role playing game!My son and I started out with the first HOMM game and we purchased every single installment upon release!

Fantasy lovers will especially love this role playing/strategy game! The graphics are fabulous! The scenarios and campaigns are fascinating. My favorite games are the campaign senarious where one successful, hard-won conquest builds upon another. You have to really think and plan to build up your heroes' abilities as well as their kingdoms.

One caution, this game can be hazardous to your time -- you become so absorbed in it that hours pass in a flash!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of best strategy games
Besides HOMM 1, 2, 3, and Expansion Pack for HOMM 2, the Millennium Edition also includes "King's Bounty", an early DOS game from the same designer that bears great resemblance to HOMM.This package is worth more than it costs considering the older games have become hard to find.

Much of HOMM's success I think is due to its ingenious combat system.Combats in many turn-based games are often dull and repetitive (a major reason why real-time strategy games have become so successful). But combats in HOMM offer *endless* possibilities.Your every attack depends on a large number of factors, from little things like the order of your troops' alignment to big things like your hero's morale, luck, strength, etc, to the intangible factors like the roughness of the terrain, and the timing of your and your opponent's spellcasting. If game design could be called an art form, then the design of this combat system would be a great example.

If I have to carp, the computer AI for HOMM 1 and 2 could be better.Computer opponents would stubbornly go after ranged attackers during combat (something you could use to your advantage). And sometimes computer opponents would build the most advanced castle, and then just walk away with you nearby.Thankfully, all 3 HOMM games offer multi-player options. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The most addictive game since Civilization
This is truly an amazing game, especially considering it's made by a small independent developer. There's a virtually infinite number of different unit types, spells and magic items so the game never gets repetitive (and this is possible *because* it doesn't rely on massive amounts of graphics). The different nations each have their own style of play. The AI is challenging even when set to "easy". You can download new maps and other modifications from the internet.

I only reduced the rating to 4 because of problems with the interface. It has a sort of unfinished feel to it. For example when the game ends, it always exits to windows rather than the main menu. Also, running a multiplayer game is very difficult and requires executing two instances of the game simultaneously.

4-0 out of 5 stars An playable multiplayer turn based strategy game
Difficult to learn and an awkward user interface - besides that, this is the best turn-based strategy game I ever played!

It is ideal for Offline-Multiplayer (Serverbased or via PBEM), since all players take their turns simultaneously, which allows PBEM games to be finished within reasonable time. Highly customizable. OS independent.

Disappointed by WalordsIV, I am now very happy to finally have found a cute, playable, turn-based fantasy strategy game.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of the old classics...
If you aren't daunted by a little detail in a turn-based strategy game, and you don't mind graphics that fall short of the "latest eye candy test", and you're willing to spend some time bringing yourself up the learning curve, you'll LOVE this game.

If you find any of the above 3 make you doubt, you probably shouldn't get it. But for me, a turn-based strategy junky to the core, this game is an absolute gem. Probably the best I've bought in the last 5 years. For a specific niche of gamer out there, this one is extraordinary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try for yourself.
Dominions 2 is a fantastic leap into TBS on an Epic scale. Huge Gods battling for supremacy by any means possible. Genocide, reckless magic, and disregard for humanity to be the last god of the panthenon.

A steep learning curve, especially for perfectionists it provides you with a simulation of fantasty combat as opposed to actual historical combat.

Low end graphics are balanced with the fact there are so many of them along with additional abilities.

A must for those who love 4X and TBS games. Not for everyone and documentation that does not do the game justice, it is hard to get into, but if you can get past the "I'm LOSING and I don't know why!" feeling, you will be well worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars this is a STRATEGY game!
I emphasize strategy. What you will not find are fancy graphics, studio sound, arcade action, cheats, or a killer strategy that will win every time. This game is wonderfully balanced with 17 nations (another in the works), 1100 units, 400 spells, 400 magic sites, 250 magic items, and much more. But the neat thing is that they give you what you need to play in YOUR style. Berserker, defensive, researcher, swarmer, sneak, diplomatic, whatever. Instead of feeling like you are learning the strategies that the developer had in mind for you to learn, you can actually develop your OWN tactics and surprises. There are people who have played it over a year and still come up with new things to try. (and yes, its one of those games which will ACTUALLY survive on your machine for a year) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

WarCraft II isn't exactly the freshest real-time strategygame on the market, but that doesn't mean it's any less fun than it usedto be. For those of you who missed it the first time around, WarCraftII is set in a fantasy realm where knights hack at trolls withswords, deadly spells crisscross the battlefield, and powerfulfortresses dot the landscape. The game pits the evil orcs against thehumans, letting players choose whichever side they want in a series ofbattles over the world. With the WarCraft II: Battle Chest, players can experience themagic of the original game along with the added enhancements of theBeyond the Dark Portal expansion pack. Rounding out the BattleChest is a complete strategy guide that will walk beginners throughthe basics and provide more experienced players with advanced tactics sothey can master the game. That's good, because players will need all thehelp they can get challenging other WarCraft II fans online. It'spossible to challenge one to eight other players on the developer's freeBattle.net servers, while more solitary gamers can immerse themselves inone of the fun single-player campaigns or stand-alone missions.WarCraft II's finely balanced gameplay has lost none of itscharm, even if the graphics are aging. In most missions you start with asmall force and must gather enough resources to build a strong base ofoperations that can field a formidable army. We had the most fun withthe set-piece battles, where we had to shepherd a few beleaguered troopsacross an enemy-infested map to either link up with a larger force onthe other side or protect a hero on his way to some goal. Blizzard isfamous for delivering games with terrific production values, timelessgameplay, and lots of extras, and the WarCraft II: Battle Chest isan inexpensive reminder of why the company has such a terrificreputation. --T. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorite RTS games ever
Although Warcraft 3 and its expansion have come out within the last few years, I still prefer Warcraft 2 a bit more. Yes the game looks kinda dated now, but it is still a blast to play. The game was fun in that it never got too complicated or anything so that newcomers could always have a good time. The map editor was easy to use and the online play in the Battle.net edition will keep you busy for a while. Anyways, if you've only played Warcraft 3 then it might be difficult for you to enjoy this game since it is so old, but if your willing to look past the graphics then you'll find a real gem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oops
Great game.It looks like amazon actually posted a screenshot of warcraft I: Orcs and Humans, instead of a picture from this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aging but still good
This game has definitely been around for awhile, but there's a reason it's still played. It's fun!The interface is easy to use, and the 'tech tree' aspect is fairly simple so that even people who haven't played other rts games should have to trouble learning it.

There are a couple of downsides to this game, though in my opinion they aren't much of an issue. One is of course that the graphics are definitely aging and nothing spectacular. It's nice to be able to quickly recognize your units so that you can make the best use of them (high detail can get in the way of that) but don't expect the graphics to wow you. Also, this game runs on a 2D engine, rather than the 3D engine that more recent games are using.

Secondly is that I wasn't incredibly impressed by the campaigns. They tend to get a little repetitive, so most of the time I find myself just playing a custom game.

Another similar game I might recommend instead of this one would be Starcraft. The graphics are slightly better, and the game is just as interesting. Then of course there is Warcraft III out now, which has a 3D engine and a couple of additional races besides human and orc.Aside from the things I mentioned, this game really is very good.I've been playing it for years and haven't gotten tired of it yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever- period!
Warcraft2 is an awesome game that has been around a lomg time...a classic. While some say that its graphics are aging, I love the undetailed, squat Orcs, among other things. Welcme to the World of Warcraft!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars RTS legend.
This game is the first RTS game that I have played along with Starcraft and Lords of the Realm 2. But Lords of the Realm 2 (Starcraft is a whole diffrent stoty) didn't have what Warcraft had. The easy to get used to gameplay with great graphics in terms of running smooth, the very low system requirement, and the satisfaction of the Battle.net. I have not played this game since 2000 (Because my dad broke my CD. Read my Starcraft Battle Chest review.) so I don't know if anyone plays online now but all I know is that I had the most fun playing this game back in 2000. I remember the satisfaction that I had with my friends after beating the opponent with my ogres and the dragons. This game ran fine when I used to have Intel Celeron 400MHZ, 64mb ram, and 56k modem. So if you get this game right now, you shouldn't have any technical problems. Also this game is very easy to get used to with easy gameplay and great graphics for an outdated game. This game is definitly a must have if you are a RTS fan. You should know that Warcraft started it all. It started the great RTS gaming genre. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes of Might & Magic
This is a great game! It does get you hooked, though, so be careful. You can always save the game, however, so if you limit yourself you can always come back later to finish a scenario. In this game, you are... well... you are you. You don't have one character that's you, you are as many characters as you recruit. These characters are called Heroes. There are different types of Heroes, all having different abilities and statistics. In the beginning, you can either start was is called a campaign, where it's usually 3-4 scenarios all towards the same goal - in some you carry on your heroes to the next one, in some the first 3 are all different, and in the end you pick the group you want to use. There are more than 15 different campaigns.
For a single scenario, it's just one scenario, you complete it, and you're done. When doing this, you can either start with completely random things, or you can chose what different castles you want, what resource you want to start with, and what single hero you will begin with. There are 9 different castles, and for each castle there are maybe 10 heroes. For resources, you get to choose between gold, an artifact, or a different resource (depending on the castle you've chosen). Then you begin the game. In each scenario and campaign you have a different goal - most of the time it's to defeat all your enemies castles and heroes, but there are some where you have to kill a monster, gather all resource supplies(?), get a certain amount of gold, collect an artifact, kill a certain hero, or defend one of your castles from being captured by the enemy. When you start, it all depends on the certain scenario on what you have. Some start with your only hero, and you have to get a castle before you can really start playing - and in this game, if you are without a castle for a week, then you lose. In other scenarios, you start with one or more castles, and sometimes more than your chosen hero. In your castle, you can buy something to improve it once a day. It has barracks for different creatures to recruit, resource silos that will earn you some resources each day, mage towers that enable your heroes to learn magic spells, castles to improve the defences of the castle, and the greatest thing is the Capital, which you don't get until you get a few other things first, but once you do, it increases the amount of creatures in your barracks each week, and it gives you the mighty sum of 4000 gold per day. In your castle you can also recruit heroes, a choice of two per week - unless you recruit one, then a different one fills its place. And don't get me wrong - it takes money to recruit your heroes and creatures. You can also find money around the map with your hero, but most of the time you'll find yourself short of cash - unless it's a really long game and you've bought everything in your castle, have the limit of eight heroes, and your money is just piling up.
But enough about the castle - it's very important, but what you're trying to do is achieve your goal, and unless it's to accumulate gold, you can't achieve it by doing nothing with you hero. In any case, you have to have your hero capture resource places (ore pits, crystal mines etc.) so you have the resources to buy the things in your castle. You hero has a certain amount he/she can move each day - this increase with certain statistics you can get, or certain artifacts. There are also spells, if your hero is advanced enough to learn them and you have the right mage tower (and level) that enable him/her to transport somewhere on the map. That map in the beginning, by the way, is black, and you can only see things once you've explored there. If you have an ally, then you get to see where they've explored as well. Your hero sometimes starts out with a good army, but normally you have to wait to fight anything until you get enough troops in your castle. You hero has 8 'slots', which you can fill with an unlimited amount of 8 different creatures. There are different levels of creatures as well, and some are better than others. Your hero fights creatures around the map to get places, to gain experience (enough allows him/her to go up a level), to gather resources and artifacts, or to win the game. When you attack 'a' creature, sometimes they will flee and you can chase them (not on the map, your hero stays in one place) or let them go, and sometimes they will join you, which is always nice. You can also kill enemy heroes, but take in mind that if their army is better, you can die. You can make your hero retreat, however, and recruit him/her in the tavern in your castle. You can sort of view an enemies army by putting your mouse over them and holding down a certain key - I think it's the control key, the tap key, or the option key. Some heroes are also better than others from experience. You can also gain experience by doing other things besides killing beasts.
So now you have this very long narrative, and I still haven't told you everything about this game. Don't worry, you can figure it out yourself (I'm so nice). This is a really great game, for children and adults alike. It does involve strategy, however, so maybe you should be at least 10 before playing. It's a great game, and I recommend it to anyone who likes computer games - this version is for Mac OS, but there are Windows versions. This pack comes with three heroes games, all having many different campaigns and scenarios - as you can pick levels to each single scenario, that is almost an unlimited amount. You can also create your own map, but I haven't really figured out how to do this the exact way I want to, so I can't help you there.
I hope this review has helped, even it was really long. I hope you enjoy the game!

5-0 out of 5 stars great game
One of the best computer game I have ever played

5-0 out of 5 stars the heroes review
I think it is really cool!

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes 3 Of Might and Magic
This is the best turn based strategy game I've played so far. I simply love this game. Earlier I had read the review of the game Age of wonders on Amazon.com and downloaded its demo. To tell the truth I was not much impressed with the game, especially since it was turn based. But this game is really addictive and I thank my stars for the day I bought this game as I was in two minds whether to buy it or not, one - because it was yet another turn based strategy, two - because the game was being sold for a very very low price here in India (the pack also included the expansion - Armageddon's Blade).
Well this game is very well made. The good things about this game are plenty. I just love the campaigns and the vast number of scenarios available to play. Turn based system is pretty fast in this game and the best part about this game is the turn based combat. Auto-combat is cool but is not as great fun as manual combat. Spells available for combat are plenty and fun to cast. Chain lightning, Death Ripple, Frost Ring and Clone are a few spells that are fun to watch.
The graphics in the game are cool. The numbers of creatures available in the game are numerous, each with its own special ability and I enjoyed them very much during game play. The monsters are a wonderful work of art. My favorite creatures in the game are many. The Fire Elementals are the best. I love the way they cover distance. The Scorpicores are absolutely frightening to look at. They create a sense of terror. The Gorgons, Unicorns, Thunderbirds, Cyclops Kings and the Liches are other rare beauties. It is a real pleasure to watch them. The Zealots are really creepy to look at and the Harpies are equally weird. I love the way Efreet Sultans attack their enemies. The Master Genies, Arch Devils and Arch Angels are equally cool to watch.
The Heroes available in the game are numerous and it is fun to build up their skills. The game is so cool that u just need a map with a group of enemies and creatures scattered on random locations to have fun. I think that's a plus point. The storyline in the game just adds more fun to the whole thing. On the whole the game is really neat and I've had many fun filled hours of play thanks to Jon Van Caneghem and group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best game ever.
Heroes of Might and Magic Compendium was a genius idea by 3DO.For a small price, you can relive the beginning of an incredible series.Although the gameplay may seem simple, you go into extreme depth in storyline and gameplay. You'll find yourself playing hours on end just to beat one game, just to go on and spend countless more hours just to beat the next in the series. After you buy this and play it to death, I recommend buying the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 series, as it continues the storyline and engulfs more of your life.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad graphics, slow gameplay
When I first got Heroes of Might and Magic, I thought it would be a greatgame. But when I installed it, I was very frustarted. The game had badgraphics, and slow battles. The creatures were huge, and battles slow. Andwhen the creatures died, they poofed away in a cloud of smoke. Uh huh, thatwas realistic! The best thing I can say about this game is that it can bevery addicting. Even thought I disliked it VERY MUCH, it got addicting. Itwas something that was cheap and I could play quickly, even though it wascheezy.I don't think this game is very hot, but if you want a cheap gameto addict yourself on with poor graphics and a funny story line, go ahead!

Erathia is in turmoil following the murder of King Nicholas Gryphonheart. Would-be rulers have divided his once-peaceful kingdom, warring against each other for gold, supplies, and--above all--power. All this and more takes place within Heroes of Might and Magic 3,an easy-to-play game clearly designed for serious fantasy gamers.

With a huge roster of heroes, monsters, and artifacts, you control your personal corner of Erathia. The heroes go out to accumulate treasure and wipe out monsters on your behalf. In the meantime, you improve your land holdings, further strengthening your tactical position.

Quick thinking and shrewd tactical judgment are required to come out on top in this intrigue- and danger-filled world. Like many current strategy games, players do not have to settle for merely besting a computer. Network and online play are available for those wishing to test their mettle against a live opponent.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is accessible to less serious gamers (those who don't wish to determine whether an orc can beat a power lich), but it provides combat statistics and a wealth of information to hard-core number crunchers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Watta Game
I found this game to be very excellent.Howeveer, I must warn you that it is very addictave and will kep you up until the wee hours of the morning. Considering how fast the game movves on computers, I find that its graphics are very sophisticated an dthroughly enjoy every aspect of the game! I love the turn-based part because it allows you to multi-task and to play as a familly. I highly reccomend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars best game in the world
best game in the world but you need to know how to play great game for ages 7 and up

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard, enjoyable game play
I always have have mixed feelings about the 'Heroes' games. They are a combination of 'Civilization' and RTSs like 'Starcraft' with a turn-based combat engine thrown in, I really enjoy the building and exploration parts. However when I get ready to start conquering, most times I find opponents who are ten times more powerful than I am. Most Herons maps require either a quick rush or a 'build combat force only' tactic. This is especially true on Large and eXtra-Large maps. If loved previous Heroes installments this one is more of the same. If you've never played Heroes before it's harder to recommend since the gameplay is monolithic. Fortunately you can pickup other editions such as Heroes III dirt-cheap. I encountered no technical issues playing this game. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars A great expansion
Heroes of Might & Magic III: Armageddon's Blade brings more to an already fun & easy to play game of strategy. New campaign scenarios and lots single play scenarios are included, but the capper is the conflux, a source of new creaures(and old, depending if you have seen any of the earlier versions of the HOMM game).

Some hints for playing: 1)put the grail in a conflux and you'll have a one stop shop for all the spells available in the game. 2) have one leader of your armies learn expert wisdom and expert earth magic, then give it the spell town portal. Give it a big muckin' army, and you have a force that can defend any threatened town. A plus for holding together those far flung empires....

5-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Phoenix, Enter the Azure Dragons
For those of you who have played Heroes 2 and 3, you may have noticed that a few cool creatures from 2 had been lost when 3 was made. Now, you have the chance to see them again, in the world of Heroes 3!Everything from 2 has been brought back, save Druids because Druid is now a type of Hero, including Phoenixes, Mummies, Halflings, and Rogues. We also get brand new creatures, such as the lethal Azure Dragon!A new town appears, complete with two new hero classes, new spells, new structures, including my favorite, a password gate that doesn't disappear after the password has been read, and new artifacts, including the awesome Armageddon's Blade! This is an expansion pack, so you must have Heroes 3 to use this. However, this does not erase anything you have done, and nothing major about the gameplay is changed or removed, there are only additions and improvements.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tougher campaigns than first HOMM3
HOMM3 Armageddon's Blade includes a campaign called "Dragon Slayer", which is easily one of the nastiest, most diabolical campaigns I've ever seen. You have to fight 3500 Naga Queens at 2 occasions, kill throngs of dragons of all kinds, including a throng of Azure Dragons that has 1000 hit points each!I had a lot of fun playing it, especially when my hero got up to 40+ attack and power skills carrying swarms of titans and giants in order to slay those dragons. Also, in the final scenario, there were no mage guilds or wells to refill your mana!Any self-respecting HOMM fan should challenge him or herself with the Dragon Slayer campaign in this outstanding HOMM3 sequel.

Enhancements in this sequel include a new town type, Conflux, which is home to elementals, sprites, and phoenixes. You can guard your mines by dumping creatures in them, just like dumping them in garrisons.New wandering creatures include the aforementioned Azure Dragon and 3 other dragons, Sharpshooter (ranger with no distance penalty), Enchanter (ranger who casts group spells), and creatures seen in HOMM2 such as Peasant, Rogue, and Nomad. There is also a super-artifact called "Armageddon's Blade"; in one campaign you help necromancers build it, and in another you help Queen Catherine take it from the necromancers.

Great fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bigger, better, faster!
Very much a case of more of the same, but this is most certainly NOT acomplaint. The computer AI has been vastly improved, there are morecreature types, new heroes and heaps of new maps. The new campaigns areexcellent, although the later stages are quite difficult and timeconsuming.

My only critiscm is that a few new spells would have beengreat, but overall the new levels and campaign make this a very worthwhilepurchase.

*WARNING* as with the original - this game is addictive in theextreme!

5-0 out of 5 stars You want more, here it is...
A real expansion pack, adding new items, heroes, and campaigns, but most of all a new town to play with. The Conflux town adds brand new troop types to work with, as well as bringing back a few "lostfavorites" from the Heroes II troop types. If you can't get enough ofthe original Heroes III, then this is exactly what you're looking for. More of all the good stuff. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Both the fantasy and the real-time strategy genres are so worn out that it is nearly impossible to think of a way to freshen things up, but that's exactly what developer Cyberlore Studios did with Majesty. More of a simulation game than anything else, Majesty lets you tinker with your own kingdom. Its main elements are in building a city and populating it with heroes recruited to expand and protect your kingdom's borders.

You don't control characters and events in Majesty so much as you influence them. Players used to more conventional strategy games like Starcraft will be a little perplexed when they click on a hero, order him to move somewhere, and watch as their commands are ignored. Characters in Majesty have unique agendas and personalities and operate on their own in accordance with those characteristics. If you want the avaricious Greedheart Thistlebottom to slay that large green beast that's approaching the village, you'll have to put a price on the monster's head. When the job is finished you can watch the hero squander his reward on warm beer, cheap women, and newer weapons. The entire game plays out like a fantasy soap opera, with you as the director and your minions as the actors (with a lot of room for improvisation).

The game's graphics and sound effects aren't too spectacular, but frankly they don't need to be. Majesty's unique and addictive gameplay overcomes any multimedia gripes we can level at it. Our bet is that fans of games like SimCity--as well as open-minded strategy aficionados--will agree. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Unique gameplay style
  • Watching recruits become heroes and cowards is a treat
  • Many missions and scenarios for hours of play
Cons:
  • Lack of direct control may not appeal to everyone

4-0 out of 5 stars fun for a little while.
This game was very novel, you don't have direct control over you units and you have to use other methods to motivate them (such as bribes). Eventually the novelty wears off and it gets a little boring to not be able to just take control in certain situations.

Basically, you should buy this game if you want to have fun with it for a week or so (it is cheaper then a dvd, so it pays in comparison). Don't expect very much long term intrest in it though.

3-0 out of 5 stars cool game
This game is cool because it is more realistic then other
games.Like your hero's gain levels and when they kill monsters they get money and puchase items or weapons.

Some hero's are greedy or ,will do any thing for treasure.
Others are loyal. There are two kinds of hero's that steal
from your kingdom.

You have choices elves, dwarves or, gmomes I like the
dwarves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
This is a great game. If you like sim city or the sims you'll probably like this. You have different quests where you explore land and fight evil creatures. Guys would love it but YOU are playing the Majesty so obviously its cool for girls too!

1-0 out of 5 stars worst game i ever purchased
I can't believe that I was excited to get this game.I've had it only 24 hours and I am already bored with it.I have beaten most of the pre-set quests and I am not a hardcore gamer.Where is the challenge? It should take me longer than an hour to beat this thing. There is very little to do with this game. The quests are generic and unchallenging.I'm sorry I wasted my money on this.It is great for my 8 year old nephew, but anyone over the age of 12 will be bored senseless by this game.No wonder gamers switch to pc.I love my mac, but it is games like this that drive people away. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
The original Majesty was fun and after you beat all of the missions you could still make freestyle games. Then they put out the expansion, which is a great add-on, which gives more missions, more freestyle opitions, more buildings, and more spells! I highly Recommend this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Under amagic spell...
The expansion pack came out about a year later after Majesty was released. This game added in 12 quests with an additional, internet-downloaded quest....This challenging add-on is proved to be much more difficult than those of the former expert's levels, which required a great strategy skills. The graphics are excellent, but the slow-down frames can ruin the fun of your game. Moreover, the hilarious voices will not lighten up your mood from the serious gameplay. At any rate, the controls respond well if your computer surpass the recommended spec. Nevertheless, if you buy the gold pack, the gold pack will not allow you to play the free quests on the internet. Therefore, you might prefer to take the advantage by buying this add-on. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Best game-very addictive.
I played Majesty and was still working on a few quests when I got the Expansion Pack.Went back and forth between the two until I finished all the original Majesty quests.I am now on the last Master quest-Spires of Death. What a challenge.I thought Day of Reckoning was hard. The other Master quest-Vigil for a Fallen Hero was actually not that hard.I have hardly played anything else since I loaded these on my computer.I beat both The Siege and Legendary Heroes in the same day and was very proud of myself.I would have paid more for these games, but luckily didn't have to.Majesty 2 is coming, but I don't think for a while yet.Pick Majesty and the Expansion Pack up, you will not be disappointed. In January, Majesty Gold is coming, but it is just the two games packed together. It will probably be cheaper than buying separate. Not sure if Strategy Guides are included or not.The main challenge of Northern Expansion Pack was no strategy guide.Best games I've played in a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Northern Expansion....
This expansion is the best I have ever seen, baecause it actually improves the game, adding a QUEST- maker, and giving you tons of new creatures, the powerful wendigo, the villanous Greater Gorgon, as well as 4 new unique monsters! The expansion also lets you in on many new buildings, and the quests are challenging and enjoyable. To sweeten things...! ....

And, this expansion also "eqalizes" heroes, beefing up the "underdogs".

Bottom Line: Coool in both aspects of price and challenge, a MUST for Majesty Fans! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A okay expansion pack
Heroes of Might and Magic 2: The Price of Loyalty is a okay add-on with a few changes to the game. 4 new campaigns have been added with 2 long and 2 short ones depending on how long you want to play. Only 1 new building hasbeen added which is sort of a bummer and it is only for the necromancers. Afew new event places have been added and a couple of new artifacts, so ifyou are looking for something worth your money then go for Heroes of Mightand Magic 3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good expansion for a great game.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2: The Price of Loyalty gives you a half-dozen more campaigns and oodles more scenarios to extend the life of HOMM II--a game with an already lengthy play-life.

There are only two downsides tothis expansion: A rule change makes it possible for you to have ghosts inyour army. Bad news because, of course, whoever gets ghosts firsts ismore-or-less guaranteed a win. (Any troop killed by a ghost becomes aghost, so all you have to do is attack a stack of weak, numerous troops andyou have an instant army.)

But this is an easily ignored point if youskip the scenarios with ghosts. The only other downside, really, is justthat it's basically just another expansion pack. More of the same. Greatstuff, but nothing particularly new.

But then, that's why there's Heroesof Might and Magic III.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good... but not great
I have to admit, Heroes 2 is a good game. It has action, and stratigy, etc. But it misses out on graphics. The graphics are ok, don't get mewrong, but once you have played Heroes III, there is no comparision. Thebasic gameplay is that you are the king and you are commanding differentheroes who command troops. You have many different kinds of troopsincluding Dragons, Halflings, Sprites, and Elfs. You build things in yourcity in a turn-based manner: One building a day (if you can afford it). Thebattles are also turn based, depending on the speed of the unit. Theexpansion is worth it. You get a bunch of new missions and quests that arereally exciting. You also get a new building for the Necromancer city, andtons of more stuff. I think that the origional doesn't start with enoughmissions anyways, so this will increase the fun. I enjoyed mostly Erik theJerk mission, and Roc around the Clock, because the map basis is a giganticclock! You also get a lot more heroes to command your armies.Great game! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Berry gathering and cave painting may best illustrate the real story of mankind's formative years, but making more room by slaughtering a few of the earth's previous inhabitants ensures a far better game in Age of Wonders. This addictive, turn-based strategy game can keep you immersed for hours in a Tolkeinesque, high-fantasy earth that just begs to be conquered.

Age of Wonders is not overly original in any aspect of its game play, offering a familiar interface and a proven formula that emphasizes a town-based resource-management system, mana-based magic, and unit-based combat, with the always satisfying end goal of conquering your enemies. Here, the resource-management system is somewhat more simplistic than others found in games of this genre, drawing almost all of its depth from town size and the acquisition of mines and farms. The combat portion of the game is easily grasped, if sometimes silly, and the magical model found here is of the "bolts from above" variety, straight out of Master of Magic, which allows you to personally influence individual battles or plague your opponents from across the globe.

At first glance, it would appear that Age of Wonders is nothing more than the classic Master of Magic's dim-witted younger brother. This unfavorable characterization is avoided by the enticing nature of the plot and a diversity of play options that allow gamers to play in up to 22 different scenarios, with 12 engaging races to choose from and a campaign feature that is more versatile than a choose-your-own-adventure novel. The campaign feature allows you to try and save humanity or destroy it, with many possible means to those two ends, and the scenarios range from very specific objectives to the classic crush-your-enemies free-for-all. There's nothing new here, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. You can definitely still get lost in this latest offering of a classic theme. --Joshua Coombs

Pros:

  • Versatile campaign feature and numerous scenario options allow for great replayability
  • Well designed for multiple players and Internet games
  • Rich plot provides excellent backdrop and inspires play
Cons:
  • Mediocre graphics
  • Simplistic control of town economy
  • Weak sound

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent storyline
While it is true that this title borrows heavily from many others, there are some differences. First, a great story behind the campains that gives you some insight and tips on the upcoming mission. Excellent (IMO) characterization of the main hero of the story, which evolves as the campain unfolds. There are abilities beyond regular Leadership/Spell casting/Markmanship that can give you competitive edge (my favorites are Domination/Charm). As the campaing progresses, the features come into play more and more (e.g. on early stages ruin exploration are somewhat hindering speed, whereas on later stages artifacts/rescued troops can play significant roles).
Overall, very involving (and time-consuming :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for fantasy fans everywhere.
If you're into the whole "middle-earth" atmosphere (like me), then you're sure to love this strategy game. In addition to a myriad of scenarios and campaign options, this game boasts a wonderful, "Tolkeinite" style story (complete with briefings and journal entries to urge the plot along) and race/character descriptions that anyone who is a little obsessive should love.

It's also a game for people who aren't strategy game pros because it's not that hard to master and anyone with some common sense could figure it out.

I personally love the often complex maps on which the scenarios/campaigns are played on. The gameplay is quite fun with it's alternating turns and automatic/tactical battle options. Just an overall neat game.

P.S. The music is lovely, too!

2-0 out of 5 stars Transparent, short lived gameplay
I found this game to be FAR to obvious. The races have merely a percentage of a difference between them. The game has zero variety.Play it for an hour . . . and then you'll see how it will ALWAYS play.Boring.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I love dthe game, it is muchin the style ofheroes and masters of magic, but original enough to be entertaining! Besides which it is highly addictive! Even my boyfriendenjoyed it and he'stough customer!
Only negative thing I can say is that I wished it had had an instruction manual for game play. It installed easily, played well. Good graphics, soundencountered some problems on both our machines. Music wouldnt play on my newer Pc andbattle effects only were garbled on his. Great title! It made mego order the sequel lol.

5-0 out of 5 stars Majesty Rocks!!!
Very fun and exiting. Provides hours of entertainment! It kept my brother, cousins, and I occupied for the whole summer! It lets you controll you palace and medieval city, and lets you create Knights, Rouges, and other magical people! Conquer your enemy, or whatever feat you must occomplish, and reap your victory!

2-0 out of 5 stars This game [stinks]
This game [stinks]....Buy it if you want to occupy yourself for 1-2 days. It's basically doing the same thing over, trying to achieve new goals that each mission sets. Not much of an RPG, juz plain strategy with a medival theme.

1-0 out of 5 stars Only for sim lovers, and young ones at that
I guess I'm not much for simulation games. This was the first one I tried, and probably the last.I thought I'd like it, but the game territory is a ridiculously-small square, the "godly" perspective doesn't do anything for me, and the actions that take place under your watchful eye are so absurdly repetitive, they make factory work look interesting.I could've helped Infogames create a ruler-of-a-medieval-kingdom game that would've been good, but they didn't ask for my input. The heading on this review says it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Majesty
This is a great game, mainly because it combines a new type of playing with a cool Sword and Sorcery enviroment.

You have just been crowned King of Ardainia. You will need to manage your kingdom all by yourself (But you will have the aid of your faithful and sometimes humurous advisor Ven Fairwhether.)

The first cool thing about the game is that the single heroes that you recruit from your guilds are not directly controlled by you. They run around and decide what to do themselves. Each hero is unique, and some heroes hate each other, so you cannot have both kinds together. Some help out each other, some steal and betray each other.

Warriors, for example, like fighting and defending buildings, as well as hard quests. "Now I'm ready for ANY trouble!"

Rangers like exploring and making healing potions out of plants. They also like aiding wizards and barbarians. "I take the path less-traveled."

Rouges are sneaky theives who like stealling from lairs and gravestones, and even your own buildings! "One day, this will all be mine!"

You will build buildings, and they will be constructed by your peasents. As your kingdom grows, you will get new buildings, and upgrade them. Also, you will need to choose between the three difrerent non-human races, if you want one in your kingdom. There are gnomes, elves and dwarves.

You will also fight monsters, who pop out of lairs. Lairs can be caves or castles, or something in between You will also need to overcome truly challenging Monster Lords, such as the Witch King, who summons hordes of evil giant spiders, The Liche Queen, who uses her dark magic to raise the undead, Rrongol the hunter (Two 'R's) who hunts your heroes down as they struggle to get at the keep he guards, Url Shekk, the three headed beast who enslaves those he captures, yto draw life from them, Dirgo, the giant cyclops who lost his one and only eye and blindly attacks your settlement with his tree trunk, Vendral, the two headed dragon who chars your heroes with his fiery wrath, and is almost immortal...and three shadowy apparitions, known only as the black Phantoms, who will challenge you the most...

Overall, a phenomonal game. You should also get the expansion for the full experience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great either
Majesty isn't a bad game, the graphics are quite good for a strategy game, and the game play allows you to catch on quickly. The tutorial is pretty good as well, but the game can either be too easy or too tough.

Some of the scenarios are really easy and others seem very hard. There are a few I couldn't get after several tries. At least all the scenarios had decent stories to them, which is better than some games out there.

My only real complaint with the game was that it didn't hold my interest. I played it for about a month, and then went on to another game. It's not bad, but it tends to get old after a while, it's the same types of things over and over. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
Disciples is an amazing mixture of Strategy and RPG.
I have listed the aspects of the game on a one to ten scale (ten being the best).

GRAPHICS:OK
LENGTH OF INTEREST:About two to three weeks
AMOUNT OF STRATEGY AVAILABE:Much. You can decide where to put your units in the party, what type of units to have in a party, and what you want your units to be upgraded into once they gain a level. You can also choose an upgrade for a hero once it has gained a level. There are four races you can choose from.During the game, you can choose whether or not to ally with another race. You can also choose what spells to research and cast.
ADDICTIVENESS:Average. You'll be playing this for maybe an hour straight every time for the first week, thirty minutes the second.
CHALLENGE:There are three difficulty settings. It's a challenging game even on easy.
FRUSTRATION:The most frustration you'll have in this game is you can barely (if ever) directly destroy the enemy. Each race has a very powerful creature guarding it's capital, so it is impossible to destroy an player. But, you never have to in the objectives. The game is pointed at something else, like capture a certain city, kill a certain party, or claim a certain amount of land. But, eventually it gets annoying because of the continous attacks that opposing races will deal out because you know you can't ever stop them.

4-0 out of 5 stars decent turn base game
pro:
-Interesting pictures. Those demons, undeads, dwarfs etc... are just cool!
-Plenty to play. You can play quest or saga, choose 4 different races and 3 types of lord (Warrior, Mage, or Guildmaster)
-Not a bad turn-base game. You know there aren't many good turn based games (I am sure you can count them all with your fingers: Heroes, Fallout...), Disciples is not bad. It's somewhat similar to Heroes of Might and Magic, but it offers enough fresh stuff to make it worth playing.Inexpensive for a cool game.Is a great deal.

con:
-Graphics not great. This is a 2D game, although there are some nice pictures, the interface is too small and graphics aren't very good compare to today's standards.
-Not easy to learn. If you have played Heroes of Might and Magic perhaps it's not as bad. However the manual isso bad that it won't be easy for anyone.I don't know whether this only apply to Gold Edition or not... The 15 pages of nothing is just NOT acceptable.
-Interesting but lacks depth. This game certainly cannot compete with Heroes of Might and magic.Row combat just doesn't offer that much variety.

------

In sum, it's worth buying, but don't get too excited about it.It's an entertaining but not groundbreaking game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the sequel
I quite enjoyed this game. You move your heroes around much in the way you do Heroes of Might and Magic 3.But that is where the similarities end.You get hire heroes in town and form parties of the creatures of the 4 different races. Each creature is unique in the type of action they can perform during combat.Combat enables your creatures and hero to gain levels and become more powerful. The way they go up in levels all depends on the type of structures you've chosen to build in your capital town. Also there are different types of heroes for you to hire, depending on if you want a scout, a mage, a fighter, or a hero who plants rods.Rod planting is how you gather the various rescources in the game, and it becomes crucial to your strategy in winning the game.Overall the game was very fun too play and kept me up late into the night. The four races you play are very well balanced. The character drawings are excellent and really add a great flavor to the game. The only downside is the in-game graphics are not up to the standards of today (albeit this was 2 years ago), but this is thoroughly overshadowed by the great gameplay. There is a sequel coming out that looks to vastly improve on the graphics.I can't wait.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad. Not great.
"Heroes of Might & Magic" could be considered its own genre, where heroes are moved around a map with their armies to acquire resources that support their military operations, and where battle is carried out in a different mode than the day-to-day exploration. HoMM probably does it best, but that doesn't mean that there isn't room for a lot of good variation. Which brings us to Disciples: Sacred Lands.

There's a lot of good variation here:

- Heroes' armies are small (no more than six total, including the hero) but advance in skill with combat (and only with combat, avoiding the economy-driven approach of HoMM). This makes distributing and managing the individual troops cruical: it's not just a matter of "hiring another archmage" because you have to hire an apprentice and keep him alive long enough to grow in power. In some scenarios, the troops are limited in level, too, so there's some advantage to spreading the experience around.

- Instead of heroes "tagging" resources to control them, controlled cities slowly transform the terrain surrounding them, and capture resources that way. (You have special units that can plant rods in areas where cities don't reach, or to try to "steal" a resource.) This eliminates the HoMM business of having to chase after a weak hero who's stealing all your resources.

- Combat is strictly front-row/back-row. This makes it easier to protect weaker missile and support troops, sort of. (A lot of troops can attack back-row troops, but they are less approachable.)

So, why the 3-star rating? Mostly, a combination of little things like a very sketchy, typo-filled manual; weak combat graphics (you don't interact with your troops on the combat screen, but using portraits that are alongside the main screen, and the troops don't interact with each other, either); the interface is a little clunky (if you double-click a destination and your hero has movement points, he'll move there, but if he's out of points, the second click will actually erase the point as the destination, and the lack of the move button means that every time you have a destination that's further than one day away, you have to click on the destination every turn); the autosave feature actually seems to penalize you for reloading, which I can sort of see on the harder levels, but which seems sort of juvenille on the easy levels for a game that offers little in the way of a tutorial or any way to know what you're getting into before you get into it.

Nonetheless, the game is commendable for taking a general framework and not just saying "me, too". It has more of an intimate feel than HoMM (for better or for worse) and it's definitely rough-around-the-edges, but at the gold edition's price, you could do a lot worse. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to load, easy to play--and challenging fun
This CD contains 6 levels that produce a lot of gaming fun. You
have a light character building feature--like Revenant and Soulbridger. It's not a damanding effort to get you character
into a fight or successfully finding key items and doorways. If you mess up, the game automatically sets an level option to replay a level. There are a few quests that must be performed before you succeed in levels 3-6. But if you get lost, there are
several great game walkthrus online.
It's fun. It's swift and not taxing on your PC. You can play as
a mage, warrior, or scout. There are many training characters to help you get up your points. At first I played without applying my training-points to build up my character---and the point being, I still enjoyed the playing. The only draw was when I needed to find that walkthru. There's a character I needed to located in level 2, Simek, whom I missed at the first go. When I got to level three, he had disappeared from the level. Oh, and you will need to download a patch--must like 75% of other PC games.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappoints
This is an undoubtedly solid game. However, it suffers severely from plain looking graphics, and the play control is a bit gawky at times. Probably the worst bit is that the main baddies are unbelievably tough to kill, so I'm not even past the first chapter. Overall it gets dull and eventually you just give up on it. It had great potential, I love how it would tell a story, but it needs better design. ... Read more

This is a fantastic game that is light hearted and easily addictive. The tutorial moves quickly through and explains a number of concepts in very basic terms. Its also nice to have an actual paper copy manual with the game.Keeping up the amount of power to manipulate the world can be challenging, but its easy enough to use a text editor to modify the save game file and boost your energy through the roof.GREAT GAME for those who don't want to think much and be a GOD!
