4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Advertised
From reading all of the criticism of this guide, I almost didn't buy it.I did, though, and am glad I did.

I'm not sure what other people expect from strategy guides but this one satisfied my criteria of (1) enhancing the overall game experience and (2) helping me through a few rough spots. You are given fair warning of spoilers and solid advice on developing your character.

Maybe my expectations are modest but I got my money's worth and so will you - especially now that the price has dropped.

BOTTOM LINE - I enjoyed the game more for owning this guide.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done...
...but that's about it. I mainly used this guide to familiarize myself with the game mechanics and details. That part of the book is pretty well done, although it could have been organized a bit better.

Further down the road, I found this book to be more of a cheat-sheet, than a true strategy guide. I read the book after I finished certain parts of the game to make sure I wasn't missing any side quests. Beyond that, I only found it to be of limited use throughout the quests, because reading it would ruin your game experience. Of course, if you really got stuck, it might be helpful, but that didn't happen to me.

The stats part is a bit disappointing. I didn't find it to be too useful. Overall, I would have wanted a bit more help with the overal game strategy. How do I go about making my light sabre most powerful? Not sure. It's as easy or hard without the book as it is with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Aunorganized mess of information......
I was very impressed with KOTOR, and also lost a bit, so I decided to grab this guide from the shelves of my local gaming store. While it has helped me for a few things that needed to be done, it isn't exactly easy to find this information. Text is mixed up and unorganized, and sometimes the information isn't detailed enough. Battle strategies for Bosses and other fights is almost non-existant, which can be frustrating if you need tips for a group or certain type of enemy. I also noticed that some puzzles aren't even mentioned in the guide.
And probably the biggest thing of note, this guide does have a HUGE amount of spoilers. Though it has warnings for a few of them, most may find this as a huge turnoff.
If your looking for some help, this guide does help in some cases, if you don't mind digging for the information and wading through spoilers. But more than likely, you'll probably just end up going to gamefaqs or another gaming site to get more clear information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mocks a great game
Look, this game is sooo much funner without this guide...this guide only gives away things. Its not hard either so theres no reason to buy a guide for it

1-0 out of 5 stars fairly useless book
The maps were available to look at, but most of the events or special items that were denoted were impossible to discern from the text. As far as a walk through goes, I felt that the missing pieces of information were fairly aggravating. ooo, I found a box with a trap and a puzzle that appears to be based on information that is not available to me, what does the guide say about it? nothing. here's a list of bounties I can collect, how much are each worth? can I negotiate higher ones? what is the best way to persuade people? already I want to toss the dumb thing in the waste basket. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, but not quite...
First things first, I've never had one of these myself, so I can't give a very detailed description. But someone I know has one, so I still know enough to be worthwhile.
This guide is very helpful. It gives you the location of all the legendary pokémon and a game walk through. Personally, I prefer the pokédex section. It gives you information concerning the pokémon, their evolution and their moves. (which is quite handy when deciding if to let a pokémon evolve or not!)
There is one downside. The publisher omitted to put in pokémon from previous games if their move sets had not been changed. (So it's a little annoying when you're training a pokémon such as vulpix!) But every thing else makes up for that omission. In short, this is great!

4-0 out of 5 stars RUBY AND SAPPHIRE GUIDE

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good and detailed...

-Fully detailed maps that tell where trainers are, which trainers will be added to your Trainer's Eye, items, and sometimes a number. When you see a number on the map, there will be another number somewhere on the page that tells you what to do there (or what happens, etc.)

-Tells where to find items,tm's and hm's,rare and common pokemon, how and when pokemon evolve, the abilities, attack and tm and hm moves they can learn, as well as "egg moves".

-Complete walkthrough of the game, as well as little side quests such as catching Rayquaza.

-Shows every move's damage, accuracy, pp, and effects, as well as what they do in pokemon contests.

    -Some ability summaries aren't specific.

(This one might not be a con to some)-It doesn't tell how to catch the Regi pokemon, instead, it just has the braille alphabet to help.

-At first, the part of the guide that shows you when pokemon evolve and when they learn moves MIGHT seem complicated...

    Overall:5 stars, it's worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you've bought the game, definitely pick this up!
This was an invaluable resource the times I managed to get stuck in the game, or wanted to know about the different Pokemon types. I managed to get my hands on a small version of this (Measuring approximately 5"x7" instead of the much bigger version). I found that was great to keep in my backpack for my hour between classes (studying??!hahaha). Prima always puts out a quality product, and this was no exception. Buy this over the other guides out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars You'll find it here! Kind of.
This book is a heck of a great stratagy guide, but it's missing a few pointers. First of all, It has no locations of secret bases.
Everybody neeeds a secret base! What the heck! Very few misspells. And misses a whole lot of stuff. When I bought this I thought I would be king of the world! But all I had was stuff that I already knew. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Packaging could better...
I give this three stars because of the packaging isn't as good as the packaging for the previously Entry Pack. Also, the stat cards for these minis are easier to read and the quality is okay. The rulebook is a must have because it has the updates to the Miniatures Handbook.I haven't played the game yet but it looks easy to play. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars KICK ASS
rocked me to my core. this game has kept me glued to the tv screen for a year and i don't plan on leaving. highly recommended!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont get it
The guide for halo is not usefull because the game is easy enough to beat without it. Its only good if youre really really really stuck which is almost impossible. Dont get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful
This book can help you so much with the game including Maps Info on the weapons, Vehicles, and enimies (it even tells you their ranks and how best to kill them) This is the key to victory over this game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
This strategy guide is informative of what items you will acquire during the game. They do let you know when an inside scoop is coming up on the particular level you are on. That's as far as i can go though. Alot of info is left vague as far as step by step dungeon walk thrus which I think is why you want a strategy guide in the first place. So you don't miss key items in the game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Evil Rabbit Seeks End of World
Dark Cloud 2 is one of those games that desperately need a strategy guide. The game simply has too much going on.While not knowing something is rarely fatal, you will miss a fair number of things if you play from the ground up.This means going back and redoing stuff when you finally figure out what is wrong (if you figure out that something is wrong) or overcompensating by extensive leveling up.

It is no surprise that this guide is over 200 pages.Prima has a high standard for attractive packaging, and this is no exception. The material is generally accurate (I did find a few glaring mistakes) but is less successful from the viewpoint of clarity and coverage. This is one of the few guides I have read where so much effort has been made to avoid spoilers that the authors forgot that a strategy guide is supposed to be part spoiler.Because of this quirk, fairly straightforward information has been obscured or left out.

Take maps, for instance.Unfortunately, there aren't any. This is a game that always rearranges its dungeons, so maps can generally be done without. But, there are fixed locations where maps would help. These areas are important sources of supplies and character improvement materials.Just the place where a little help could go a long way to ease the craziness of the game.

Another example is improving weapons. As you move along in the game, it gradually comes clear that your weapons are never strong enough. It took me a while to realize that powering up is much more complicated than either the manual or the guide indicate. If you don't catch on to this, the last parts of the game can get very frustrating.

So, this is a mixed review.I couldn't have done as well as I did with the game without the help provided by the guide. In that sense it is a great success. But what was left out contributed to a great deal of my frustration.I'm coming to the conclusion that guides are becoming too fixed on large amounts of supplemental, cool, (and basically useless) materials (to compensate for being expensive and of limited use) and less on making sure that coverage is good.Even so, I don't think the buyer is going to be disappointed, but be prepared for a lot of unexpected quirks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Will Prima ever get it right?
The Dark Cloud 2 Prima Guide is yet another guide by Prima; Another Guide that isn't worth your money.

Many people who have read previous guides by Prima will know that no Prima guide is without errors -- and this is no exception. The Dark Cloud 2 guide is full of information, but, sadly, a lot of it is incorrect.

Such things like their Weapon List are incorrect, And even some of their monster information.

Another thing is they fail to help us with some of the Mini-Games, like Spheda, they don't provide us with any helpful hints or anything, which would be quite helpful, as Spheda can be VERY frustrating.

One huge annoyance is that they don't list where and when you need to get the Power-Up items, and without those items, you're going to have a hard time playing this game.

Even though this guide is ridden with errors, it's very pretty to look at, it has a lot of Official Artwork in it, Pictures of Monsters, Screenshots, etc. Unfortunately, just being pretty won't save this guide...

Apparently, Versus Books, who does a great job on Guides, was supposed to release a guide for Dark Cloud 2, but they seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth. If Versus Books DOES come out with a Dark Cloud 2 guide -- buy theirs, and forget Prima ever released this guide.

Don't waste your money. ... Read more

I dont know what Serious Mr. Lee is talking about! Ellen DeGeneres and I both agree that this book is both fun and challenging!! Like her other releases,Maria brings her sense of humor and slapstick sarcasm and puts them into a very worthwhile compilation of challenging, yet quite solvable word puzzles.I haven't reached the zillion quota that serious Mr.Lee has,but I haven't found a puzzle here that I cannot solve. What an awesome book!

Why can't I solve them?Because the letter of the cryptograms are too close together!!I've done zillions of these puzzles and had a great time, but nobody can write that small and close together and have it be any fun.Cryptograms should be typed in solid caps with space between the letters and between the lines like lots of other books present them.I didn't buy the book, but got the information from looking at the excerpt. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but BradyGAMES has done so much better...
When it comes to some guides, BradyGAMES doesn't slouch. If you look at guides like their Final Fantasy X guide and their Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, you know they make some good guides, trying to please the customer.Sometimes, however, they DO slouch, and when they do, it isn't pretty.Unfortunately, since the coming of their Signature Series, they've slouched a lot.Unless a guide is a part of the Signature Series, you're risking a lot by buying it.Sadly, this guide is not a Signature Series guide so you know they didn't take it seriously.

It seems as though the staff assumes that people who buy this guide have already played the original Metal Gear Solid on PSX.It's chalk full of spoilers! They even mention this on the first page. They also encourage you to use the guide only when you're stuck.

It is kind of cool that the first few pages of the guide tell you all the differences between the original version and this one, but that seems to be there to take up space. The game basics is also grand, but I wish they'd tell us the differences between game modes. The walkthrough, for those of you who don't know how a BradyGAMES MGS guide works, is written based on the "Normal" difficulty setting.

The walkthrough is where you get the biggest mix.I can't figure out if the author thought the people playing the game were retarded or not.In one spot the text even reads "Switch to First Person View, hold down the A button to raise the SOCOM Pistol.." as if we don't know the A Button fires a weapon (and if you don't know that, you're playing the wrong game). The walkthrough is also sluggish, especially in the beginning. It picks up, perhaps a little too much. The boss strategies are not all that helpful for example, they don't mention that when fighting the M1 Tank or Metal Gear REX, you can use Chaff Grenades to jam the radar.

The walkthrough did have its good points though. The maps are VERY detailed and pin-point out items. They also show guard patrol routes, although some are confusing (way too many arrows on some pages, the way they did the guard route in the MGS2 and MGS3 guide was much better). The screenshots were clear enough, and they did lead you through each area OK.

However, I'd say the biggest problem with this guide is simple.Who would need it?Especially if you played through the original MGS on the PSX?The changes made to the game are so minimal (and they did a bit of tweaking to the game, such as for Psycho Mantis to do EVERYTHING he did on the PSX version you have to play on EXTREME) that you should already know everything about it.

It's also sad that for all the secrets you have to go fishing through the walkthrough.I was also disappointed that, as usual, BradyGAMES wouldn't get to the point. They take time to explain every cutscene to you.For the love of God, I'm playing the game, and watching the cutscene, why does the guide have to explain it to me?Does the author really think I'm that dense that I can't watch a simple cutscene?

They did have a dog tags list, and they did have a list for all the spirits.Sadly, they didn't bother to explain game rankings, and they even ruin the ending for those who have yet to play through MGS for the first time.

My advice is this, unless you collect strategy guides, leave this one on the shelf. The game, for one thing, is so simple to figure out that you really shouldn't need it.Also, if you've already played the original on PSX, you'd be wasting your money by buying it anyway.Leave this one on the shelf, unless you're a collector of strategy guides or MGS accessories. ...
