Amazon.com Review

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure takes you to theisland of GreatLog, where, playing as Tara--a member of a family of monsterfarmers--you complete a series of missions to keep the island from sinking. Taralooks for magical keys, explores a number of alternative worlds, performsreconnaissance for an impetuous king, and even joins the circus. But collectingand breeding monsters is the real meat of this game, and is the area with themost intricate and addictive gameplay.

Each monster has its own complex set of characteristics, and can be matched withany monster of the opposite gender to produce a new member of Tara's monstermenagerie (don't worry: the actual breeding takes place offscreen). The resultsof monster breeding can be surprising, and allow for nearly endlessexperimentation. Of course, your responsibilities don't end with breeding: youmust also take your monsters out on missions to give them experience and keepthem sharp. Let your monsters languish for too long on the farm and they'll getlazy and disobedient.

The monster breeding by itself wouldn't be much fun if it weren't for the game'simaginative settings and strong characters. Despite the Game Boy's modestgraphics and sound capabilities, the game evokes distinctive atmospheres andpersonalities through an inventive use of textures and dialogue boxes. Themultiple menus necessary for successful navigation of this world at first appeardauntingly complex, but the interface does a good job of leading you along untilyou get the hang of things.

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure stresses creativity andconstructive behavior over conflict. While it's true that you can hardly takethree steps without your monsters getting into another fight, the violenceitself is not at all graphic, and outcomes rely as much on strategy andrelationships as on brute force. The world of the game is a gentle and whimsicalone where nothing too bad ever happens. Even if one of your monsters hasthe misfortune of getting killed, it follows you around in a cute little coffinuntil you can arrange for a resurrection.

The one disappointment with Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventureis not so much with the title itself as with its much-hyped interaction with itscompanion title, Dragon Warrior:Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey. Linking with another Game Boy Color runningeither the same cartridge or its companion title enables, among other things, monster swapping and multiplayer adventuring, but the layouts, plots, characters, and dialogue are virtually identical in Tara's Adventures andCobi's Journey. The addition of a few extra monster types and spellshardly justifies the expense of a second game cartridge.

But never mind. Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure providesmore than enough fun missions, engaging characters, and imaginative settings torate as a smashing success as a standalone. --David Stoesz

Pros:

  • Minimal violence
  • Battery save feature lets you bookmark your progress without using passwords
Cons:
  • Virtually identical to Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey
  • Missions can lead to aimless wandering

This game is a pretty good one for those who are into the whole monsters collecting, training, and battling scenario. Highly recommended. Also, check out this title: Revelations:The Demon Slayer for the same reasons as of the above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two very different game for one price
Any game that involves collecting monsters is going to draw comparisons to the all-holy Pokemon. It's unavoidable. So let's dismiss the assumption that Enix's Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a Pokemon clone. It is not. If anything, it's a merging of Pokemon and Monster Rancher. If you want to collect every monster imaginable, you're gonna need to put some of your fave beasts out to stud and breed whole new species. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is actually two games in one. The first half of the game is a very classical Japanese RPG. The kingdom's in trouble and it's up to you, the unsuspecting hero, to save the day. The second half is all about finding new monsters, building them up, breeding them, and repeating the process to infinity with the hopes of finding every last species. There are two separate games you can buy, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey or Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure. Both titles are nearly identical. The same quest, the same results. But each title has unique monsters and magic keys. To reach all of the many lands of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, you'll have to breed monsters and swap keys with a buddy playing the other game. Cobi and Tara are friendly siblings whose family has just opened a monster ranch on the tiny island of GreatLog. Their peaceful lives are soon disrupted when the irresponsible Prince Kameha and his monster sidekick, Warubou, accidentally destroy the GreatLog's navel plug (yes, you read that right). As often happens when an island's navel plug is destroyed, GreatLog begins to sink. Warubou acts as a temporary plug, but it is up to you as either Cobi or Tara to journey to five different worlds in search of a replacement plug. From here the RPG is pretty standard. Travel around fighting random monsters and talking to various people in the town. All this leads you to a Boss encounter where you finally retrieve the potential plug replacement. You can only take three monsters with you on each journey, the rest are left at your father's ranch. Choose wisely. Enix has done a nice job balancing this game. Monsters become increasingly difficult to defeat as you progress through the game, but never so much that it gets frustrating. Random monster encounters are never so common that they become annoying. On average, you'll hit one encounter on each screen. Battles aren't yours to fight, but are left for your monsters. The wilder a monster is, the less likely they are to follow orders in combat. Give them love (and boatloads of food) and they will become more obedient. Each monster is capable of learning skills that are of great help come combat time. All of the bosses are tough, but none are impossible to beat. The bulk of the game comes after the RPG is finished. Once the credits roll, you're free to search for magic keys that will unlock a myriad of worlds to explore, monsters to nab, and items to find. Breeding is the key to finishing both the RPG and finding all of the available monsters. Each monster will be either male or female. Choose a mom and a dad who are both 10th level or above and take them to Professor Monster at the Starry Shrine. Now it's time to dim the lights, put on some soothing Barry White, and let nature take its course. Apparently, Enix isn't too hot on parental values because before your newborn can hatch, mom and dad split, never to be seen again. And I mean never. Left behind is their powerful and unique offspring. With the link cable you can hook up with friends and battle your monsters, swap keys and monsters, or even breed two monsters together. The monsters that come from breeding with your buddy's crew are some of the best you can get. Breeding new creatures, exploring the many new worlds of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, and dealing some smack-down to your friends adds a lot of depth to an already solid RPG. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a step up from the original thanks to more monsters and the need to link up with a friend in order to truly finish the game. The RPG takes anywhere from 8-12 hours, but it's the monster ranching that makes the game a winner. It would have been nice if Cobi and Tara had two separate RPG's, but like the Stones said, you can't always get what you want. If you like Monster Rancher, this is the game for you. No, it's not as good or as addictive as Pokemon, but it is a great game nonetheless.

This is a great game with many monsters and secrets and FUN! It is the better version of Pokemon.

4-0 out of 5 stars OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW
I'M JUST NEW TO THE DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTER SERIES. I BOUGHT THIS GAME BASED ON MANY REVIEWS THAT I READ WHICH I FELT WERE VERY DESCRIPTIVE AND INTERESTING. THE WEIRD THING IS, I GOT THIS GAME VERY CHEAP FROM (...). IT COST ME $10. IT WAS WORTH IT. THIS GAME IS GREAT. YES IT DOES HAVE THE SAME CONCEPT LIKE POKEMON, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT, THIS GAME IS MORE LENGHTIER, CHALLENGING (BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE), AND MORE QUESTS. IN POKEMON, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS TRAIN YOUR POKEMON, BEAT ALL 16 GYMS (DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RUBY AND SAPHIRE, BASING IT ON GOLD AND SILVER), BEAT A WEAK POKEMON LEAGUE, BEAT ASH, CAPTURE ALL THE POKEMON AND YOUR THE MASTER. IN DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTERS AND DRAGONWARRIOR, YOU NOT ONLY CAPTURE, BREED, AND TRAIN MONSTERS, YOU ALSO GET TO GO THROUGH MANY QUESTS AND ADVENTURES, INCLUDING HIDDENQUESTS TOO. I'M TELLING YOU PEOPLE. YA SHOULD BUY THIS GAME. GO TO (...). ITS VERY CHEAP THERE. ONLY WORTH $10. TRUST ME ITS WORTH. DON'T WAIT TILL ITS DISCONTINUED, BUY IT NOW!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
This is a really great game!If you like the kind of game where you go around, collecting monsters, leveling up, and trying to save your world, then this is your game! The only downside is that the graphics aren't that great...but if you can look past that...then this game would be alot of fun! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Well, the PC version is good!
I was really excited when I heard MPA was bing released for gameboy!I love the PC version - it's the only Pinball sim I play now days. The Gameboy version... well, seems like an unfinished product. The only table worth playing is Spirit of '76... which is a saving grace since it just so happens to be my favorite table on the PC version.I no longer play the gameboy version of MPA... just sits in it's box until I decide to get rid of it.I'll stick to Kirby's Pinball or Pokemon Pinball.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than no pinball at all
Of the several tables included on this cart., only 2 are worth playing: Spirit of 76 and Haunted House. The others are more like pachinko games than modern pinball and aren't worth the effort.

This price is right for what you get.I bought this knowing that I couldn't wait for a GBA version to be released. ... Read more

Most fishing games provide a detailed fishing simulation andnothing else, but Legend of the River King adds some role-playingelements to the mix that considerably freshen the gameplay. Apparently, you are searching for a legendary fish that can cure your sister'sillness. But this weak storyline really just provides an excuse to roamthe world trying to catch every species of fish in the game.

Catching fish may not be as exciting as rounding up hundreds ofdifferent types of Pokémon, but it is surprisingly satisfying. Asthe game progresses, players gain access to different fishing poles, various types of bait, and other fishing accessories that let them landthe bigger and more exotic catches. The role-playing elements are fairlylightweight, so hardcore RPG fans will likely be more amused thanchallenged. Still, these elements do help break up the monotony of thefishing tasks. There's even an entertaining virtual pet game that letsyou hatch a fish and raise it. It thrives or dies depending on theamount and type of attention it gets, and even mutates into new speciesdepending on the environment you establish for it. Legend of theRiver King is more relaxing than exciting, just as a good fishinggame should be. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Nice graphics
  • Role-playing elements are unique
  • Relaxing gameplay
Cons:
  • Requires more patience than skill

5-0 out of 5 stars A fishing RPG!?
Yeah, it looks like it is a fishing RPG. Not only is it a Fishing RPG but it's fun too. You start off in a small town with limited supplies and skills. Upon catching fish, you can sell them for money, and then use the money to buy better supplies. As for your skills, along the way you'll encounter monsters. Upon defeating them your casting power and attack power will increase. The battle system is rather awkward, but is easy to get used to. The fishing system is great. You let the fish run with the line until it stops. At this point you hold down the reel button until he fights back. Repeat this process until you achieve success. One thing you need to remember is to use appropriate hook sizes. The wrong hook will not get you a catch. The game itself is quite a catch though. Along with the fish raising extra, this game is fantastic and unique.

4-0 out of 5 stars A really cool game
This game is quite hard to start with. At the beginning you have a small amount of money and you have to learn how to fish properly pretty fast. It took me a while to figure out how to catch the fish and I got a bit annoyed with it after half an hour of playing and still not catching any fish. The booklet helps you a bit but it doesn't give you detailed instructions on how to fish properly. After you've learned how to fish, the game is very enjoyable and it isn't that hard to follow. I really enjoyed playing this, and even if you don't really like fishing in real life, you should still give this game a try.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Game of Ledgendary Proportions?
This game is different from all other fishing games, here's why: This is an RPG, not just a fishing game. You fight wild animals and catch fish. Sometimes wild animals will attack you to steal your fish. Other times you have to beat a certain animal to move on. But your main goal is fishing. Your sister is dying, and you need to catch a magical fish that can save her. As you progress you get new fishing equipment to play around with. This is the main mode, but if you get tired of fishing, why don't you raise a fish? This is pretty cool, but gets old kinda quick. Thats why they (the makers) made it so the fish evolve and die depending on how you take care of them.

The Good: Gameplay, fishing tools, RPG style fighting, fighting animals, fishing itself, sprites, raising a fish can be fun.

The Bad: Graphics, weak storyline (excuse to catch all the fish!), losebait every time fish bite, some areas are pretty big (hard to get to that sweet spot), raising fish gets boring fairly quickly.

This is a unique game that is brought to you by the makers of another unique game: Harvest Moon. Altough I recommend it to fishers and RPG fans everywhere, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! But many do enjoy it, as I do.

2-0 out of 5 stars Patience, I don't have.
I thought this game would be cool...like Zelda but with an angler angle.I expected it to be like fishing at the lake with Zelda in Ocarina (N64).OH, I was wrong; this game is not so cool at all.

There are two modes to this game: Raise and Fish. The raise portion is interesting because you get to set up a fish tank, feed and care for your fish and watch him/her grow.As the fish grows it morphs into different types of fish.If you take good care of your fishy you get to watch it change and grow.Yippie (read: boring).

The "fish" mode is your typical adventure game; you have to catch certain types of fish and give them to chattering people who stand around the water's edge.Fishing is HARD...but the booklet has some pointers (and a map that shows where the different kinds of fish hang out). When a fish circles around your line and you hear a sustained beep, then it's time to reel him in.Push the A button and you'll see an underwater view.Wait until the fish stops swimming away--he'll tire pretty quickly--once he stops, push and hold A to reel him in.If he pulls back, then let go of A and let him run away for a little while.Once he tires again, repeat the reeling process.Eventually you'll catch one.If the fish steals the bait, then try a different size hook or a different type of rod.It took me ages to figure out how to catch the darn cutthroat trout!

You can also catch random fish and sell them in the shop to get gold. Then you can take your gold to the shop and buy supplies, bait & equipment. You'll eventually get a raft so you can float and fish at the same time.Don't bother paddling your raft because you'll collapse and be sent to the hotel with only 1 health point remaining.

Doesn't that sound fun??

This game is a little too much like real fishing (without the beer and sunshine). You cast your line and wait...and wait...and wait.ARGH!Your patience will be drained quickly.

I like video games because my attention span is short and I need all the quick-action/reaction stuff. This game makes me YAWN (a cure for insomnia?).There are action-packed moments when you have to fight spiders, monkeys, bears, snakes and other foes; those fights are incredibly dull. The fight works like this: a little fist image floats around your foe and if you hit the A button when the fist is on the animal, you get a hit (a hit to the head defeats most foes quickly). You'll get experience points by defeating foes, but I still haven't figured out what experience points do for you.

If you like real fishing and you have reserves of patience, then you'd probably like this game.I don't *hate* it, I just wish it was more exciting; maybe that's why I don't ever go fishing. ... Read more

Lizzy the monster lizard, Ralph the overgrown wolf, and George the giant gorilla are still readyto rampage, but it's up to a whole new strain of mutants to rescue them in Midway's Rampage 2:Universal Tour for the Game Boy Color. (Note: This game is playable only on Game Boy Color, notGame Boy.)

The object is still to destroy as many of Earth's cities as possible. The new mutants stomping theblock--Curtis the rat, Boris the rhino, and Ruby the lobster--are every bit as hungry as their predecessorsfrom the successful multiplatform Rampage series, and they're just as hacked off. In one-playermode, choose one of the mutants and devour your way through scores of Earth's most famous cities. Or linkup with another Game Boy Color for an excellent two-player cooperative mode.

But beware while you're stomping buildings and cars and munching on the world's populace, becausemilitary forces are out to stop you. For extra points (and fun), smash the tanks, bombers, helicopters, androbots that come after you. The more people you snack on--soldiers and civilians alike--the healthier you'llstay. Mutants have to stick together, so rescue the aforementioned veteran monsters for special bonuses.--Bill Hutchens

Pros:

  • Highly detailed cities
  • Everything is breakable (which is a great stress reliever!)
  • Lots of hidden surprises--be sure to smash and eat as much as possible
Cons:
  • 2-player mode is great, but arcade purists may miss the 3-way fun of the original version

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a great game
It's fun,but if you have it for N64,forget about getting it for game boy. It's great, but the graphics stink.

2-0 out of 5 stars boring
This game has a good backround and idea, but it is exceedingly dull. You go arround jumping on cars and climbing buildings. Big deal. I would almost rather wach golf. If you want to burn money and be bored to death, buy thisgame.

I own this game and I love it! It's full of action.I think it's a great game for anyone of any age.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rampage 2 Is Great
Rampage2: Universal Tour is a great game just like the original. The repetitive goal of destroying buildings doesnt seem to bore the player. I enjoyed it very much and reccommend it to anyone who likes destruction games. It is a lot like Godzilla- you walk through cities and trashbuildings. Very Fun. I give it an A !

4-0 out of 5 stars The Power House
That's not true, I did enjoy the manga-styled Bomberman movie scenes, but the game... EUH! It's the ancient style, offers very little, and NO variety. I enjoyed the N64 Bomberman for it's multi-player, here they left that out and it left a big gap. Trying to play is ridiculous, the computer loses about 7 percent of the time, and it's no fun attempting to beat them. You never feel responsibility for the loss. The game can change soo quickly that it might as well be set to one minute, to save us time. There's way too much going on in one screen, like 50 different things and it's like you're supposed to try to watch it all, and you don't... and you lose. Also, there isn't even an Adventure mode here! It's all bombing in a small space. You always start out in a cramped area, far away from opponents. It's so old, and dull, it's begging for a drastic gameplay overhaul, like the N64 version (not saying that was great, but it WAS a direction with genuine innovation). All of the elements exist for a fun game, but it doesn't ever come together. I kept wondering when I would get to the fun part. ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, mediocre execution
Ever since 1986, Hudson Soft's Bomberman games have been appearing on home video gaming consoles. The fast and frantic action has drawn in many gamers - and with good reason. In late 1998, to accompany the release of Nintendo's new Game Boy Color, the company released a new game in the series, which tried something entirely new - making Bomberman a side-scrolling puzzl-action game! How did this work out? Read on and see.

PROS:
-The number of platformers for ALL systems has been dropping greatly in recent years due to all the hype for three-dimensional games, so it's good to see a new Bomberman game.
-You can save your progress with a password.
-The game looks and plays like a side-scroller should, for the most part.

CONS:
-The time limit is bound to get on your nerves.
-How exactly do those bombs stay suspended in midair?
-Boss characters are UNREALISTICALLY DIFFICULT.
-The Jump Mode is just plain stupid.
-No multiplayer mode.
-Though a good idea, the game ultimately falls flat.

OVERALL:
This is a good game if you can't get enough of Bomberman or side-scrolling puzzle-action games. Just don't buy this expecting anything revolutionary - you won't get anything of that sort.

5-0 out of 5 stars BOMBERMAN POCKET RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!
This game is great! there are so many cool levels, but be aweare, that the "masters" of each level are extreamly hard to beat! But once you have beat them... You will have a blast playing! The rest of the game is somewhat easy, but nice and quick (however, entertaining if you want to play for hours!) hehehe, to sum it up, it's a great game! BUY IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME IS GREAT

Editorial Review

Worms: Armageddon is one of those weird titles that, despite its numerous flaws, still keeps us coming back for anotherround. The premise is extremely simple: use your four worms to bombardyour opponent's four worms using a variety of heavy weaponry until noenemies are left standing to fire back. The execution is a little morecomplicated, as actually hitting targets requires accurately gauging thewind, as well as applying just the right amount of power to your shot.Of course, you'll also benefit from some good old-fashioned luck.

Due to the inferior processing power of the Game Boy Color platform, this version of Worms: Armageddon does sacrifice some of thefeatures found in the game on other systems. Most notably, the weaponsare nowhere near as varied as those found on the Nintendo 64 andPlayStation versions. The good news is that there is a lot of instantgratification to be found in this game. Each match is relatively briefsince a sudden death mode kicks in after awhile. In this mode, allremaining worms have their health reduced to the point where a poorlytimed sneeze will cause them to expire. This isn't the sort of title youcan play for hours on end, but it's perfect for a 10-minute gaming fix.--T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Skilled shots are extremely satisfying
  • Need only 1 Game Boy Color for a 2-player game
Cons:
  • Bland weapons
  • Small screen size hurts gameplay

4-0 out of 5 stars FUN FUN FUN!
Its alot like the computer and PSX version. Although its a bit tuff to see who is on your side and who is on the other. It also dosent have the funny voices.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you are a serious junkie...its so so...
Okay. I am a Worms Junkie. I love the game...(Worms Armageddon/World Party for PC). The Gameboy color version is about what you would expect from its primitive 8-bit processor. If you are considering buying this version, dont. The Gameboy Advance version, Worms World Party, is almost a near perfect conversion from the PC. I have the first screenshots, and it looks beautiful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good ol' fashioned fun
Worms Armageddon on PC is my favourite game: you just can't get enough of it! So when I saw the GBC version on the shelves, I hurried to buy it. Well, although it has some flaws, I rate it the third best Gameboy Colour game, after Pokémon Gold and Tetris DX.

What I found disappointing was the lack of weapons. You don't even get ninja rope! But all the basic ones are there, like bazooka and firepunch. You even get some extras like battleaxe and armageddon (although armageddon is far more impressive on the PC). But the worst feature in the game is the sound. Not only have they cut out the dialogue, but they have changed the music into high-pitched digital tunes that sueak and squeal throughout the whole game (that is why I play with the sound off). My only other grumble is that it's a bit easy; I clocked the whole thing in about a week.

Apart from these, the game plays really well. The graphics are outstanding for gameboy, with highly detailed and colourful stages. Also, the stage design is much better than the PC version, with more emphasis on jumping skills (I love the pirate ship!). The controls are like worms 1, where you scroll through the weapons using the a and b button. Also, you can earn new themes by winning three times in a match (there are 48 in total).

Worms is a really awesome series, and the GBC version really hits the mark, although it can be improved. All worms veterans who own a gameboy colour should go and buy it; and for all you newbies, this game makes a fun diversion and has you coming back for more!

4-0 out of 5 stars A perfect game to pick up and play at any time
I was doubtful about this game before I purchased it, but I found it on sale, and let me just say that I'm really glad I got it.Worms is aturn-based strategy game that is definately toungue-in-cheek, so if yourlooking for a die-hard strategy game, look elswhere. On the other hand, ifyou ARE looking for a fun game that you can kill some time with and havelaugh, then this is a good choice. The AI in Worms isn't that advanced, soit won't be long before you look at the terrain being a bigger challengethan the enemy worms, but it is still a blast to lay waste to theopposition. To me, this is what Gameboy titles should be: A shortdiversion that you can play while on the bus, waiting in a doctor's office,on a trip, etc., etc., etc.You WILL find yourself addicted to it, but youdon't have to play for hours upon hours to get any deep satisfaction out ofit. I do wish that there were more options and a way to save your progress, but it's still a perfect time waster (and I mean that in a good sense.)

4-0 out of 5 stars worms armageddon
worms is a great game. You control worms in more then 50 levels with 14 wepons including bazoka, grenade, fire punch, dynimite, telport, baseball bat, jet pack, shotgun, airstrike, battle axe, blow tourch, sheep, bannabomb, and armogeddon.

In the game ypu can control 1-4 worms in one gamethat can last 5 10 or 15 minutes, In each game you can have 1, 3, or 5rounds.

I gave it 4 stars because the screen is too small in game boycolor. also in the nintendo 64 version you have about 60 wepons compared to14 on gbc. The graphics are ok but the squeaky voices have been cut out. Itis 5 stars if you have never played the pc or nintendo 64 version.I wouldrecommend buying the pc or nintendo 64 version unless you are looking for aportable version. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and exciting
This game is very fun. You never know what kind of fish you have hooked. It's very realistic. Even the weather changes in this game. If you wantchallenging fishing fish in the tournament. If you want some fun but justto relax, play in the Free Fishing. But I like the Tournament. And the goodthing is that you have like 7 places to fish at, even in the ocean.

I'mnot a very good fishergal in the real life but I am in the gameplay. Whichis cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who would have thought fishing could be so good on Gameboy
This is such a good game. You can catch 32 different fish and fish in 6 salt and fresh water locations. The fish are hard to catch if you don't usethe right lure or don't fish in the right spots. But if you take the adviceof the pro.'s you'll be reeling in a lunker in no time. Also, if you'vehooked a big one, he will give you quite a fight and you might even loosehim and your hook if you don't reel him in properly. The tournaments are socool as well, there is a lot of hype about it when in the game, and youhave to qualify to get to the Champs. A must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet game for children!
This is a cute and entertaining game, it features Laura going through the village and helping the different townsfolk along the way.Laura is a sweet, kind girl providing service unto the different villagers along the way, never asking for anything in return for her good deeds. This game provides as a good influence for younger children by showing that kindness and service can go a long way. The game also includes no violence, no evil, it's just a sweet little game inspiring young children to do good deeds.
In addition to roaming the village, there are also a number of mini-games that Laura can play. The mini-games are both challenging and fun to play.

This is a good game choice for any child...any child, so long as he or she can read. They may be able to figure out how to play without reading, but being able to read makes it easier and enhances gameplay.

Very cute game, sweet characters, good moral. If you're looking for a sweet game that does not influence violence for your child, this would be a great choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Help!
Hi I was wondering if any one knew how to get past the part where Laura has to find her Mom's Jewelry for Tommy? It would be really helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars I got this game for Christmas, and it was the Best!
All I have to say is that if you're looking for a good game for kids this is. Its entertaining and at the same time challenging. Make sure your kids can read though. It may not be as much fun if they can't read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for children 6 and up
This Game Boy Color version of "Laura's Happy Adventures" (The name of the original PC game) is an enchanting adventure which brings the forgotten Playmobil Victorian World to life. The sweet Laura is sent into unforgetable adventures on the streets of a Victorian Village. There is no evil included in this game, which is a great thing, since it does not involve children into any kind of violence.
If you enjoy this great video game. Wait until you see the PC version. 3 times better. More detailed characters, beautiful graphics on the streets and the Playmobil Victorian Dollhouse, adorable music and unforgettable storyline.

2-0 out of 5 stars Marble (not-so-fun)ness
The game I've played is not for color, rather the older version.
But, it cant be much different.
Basicaly, you roll a marble around in a "maze" - well, its not a maze, more you move it around obstacles. The fun part of the game is where you roll you marble in front of a "wave" that carries you, but if you dont get off of it, the marble falls and you have to start again (from where it fell)
Overall, I felt the game was okay for a hour or less, but it gets boring after a while. There are more worthwile things to spend your money on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect recreation of a Nintendo game
This is an original "race" to the finish, because you play as a marble and go down a 3D course full of traps, hazards like puddles of acid, vacuums, enemy marbles, slinkies that eat your marble and several challenges. This is not a game for children or anyone who can get frustrated easily, because first of all the controls are not where you press down and your marble goes down, when you press down your marble goes diagonally down and left! Secondly, if you fall far enough, your marble will break and crumble, but fear not, because you have unlimited "marbles," however you are limited by time. Once your time runs out, that's it! There are only five courses in the game. This game is a perfect recreation of the original Nintendo game. There is a two player linked mode, so two players can race each other down the course.

1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to play
For me, the bottom line is: this game is difficult to play on a gameboy. The original arcade game used a trackball and it was a very fun and exciting game. This does not translate well to how a gameboy is played. It is difficult to move the marble around 360 degrees.I do not recommend this game.

2-0 out of 5 stars not like the original
The original marble madness is really good. it was ported to the gameboy and had great phisics and was exactly like the amiga and arcade versions, there was only one porblem, it was in black and white. Well my friends thisnew game was supposed to fix all that. Unfortunatly it failed. Hear me outand I'll tell you why. Instead of modifying the old engine of marblemadness they oppted to make an entirly new one, Big mistake, although thislooks exactly like the first one its very different in gameplay. First ofall the phisics are all wrong, hills present little problem to get over andif you are going through a lot of twisty doo dads(for lake of a bettername) you will fall off instead of skiming off the sides like in theoriginal. Another problem is that it slows down in some areas, Slows down? why? Its not over the limits of what a gbc(gameboy color) can do, all I canattribute this to is the game company rushing it, and therefore forgetingto fix some major bugs and slowdown issues. Also, unlike the original, themuliplayer was pulled out of this version at the last second, so no playinghead to head with your friend:( All in All this was a rushed game thatshould have had at least two more monthes of programing and bug fixingbefore it was released. On the plus side it has one more level than the oldversion, and its in color. P.S. I recomend the original gb version, it maynot be in color, but at least you can play it with a friend, and it hasgreat phisics.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too frustrating for younger children
I bought this as a gift for a 5-year old, who is quite accomplished through many levels at several other Game Boy games (Donkey Kong, Pac Man, etc.)He was far more frustrated with this than any other game. The GameBoy game direction control is not adequate.Ideally, a slower marble speedas a training or beginner level may help (although I recognize the gamegives unlimited lives within the alotted time and real marbles have onespeed on a given slope). It is a difficult game best suited for older, accomplished gamers. ... Editorial Review

Rampart is an arcade classic that, unfortunately, doesn'tcome across well on the Game Boy Color. The object of the game is totake over castles by encasing them with circular walls. You will alsoneed to defend your possessions by firing cannons at invaders. Eachcombat phase is followed by a rebuilding phase. As you catch morecastles, you are able to accumulate more cannons to help you better fendoff the ever-increasing foes. It's a fun game in theory, but theexecution of the graphics in the Game Boy Color version detracts fromthe playability. Everything is tiny, ill defined, and lacking indetail.

The graphics aren't the only downside to this conversion--controls alsosuffer. The arcade version had a great roller-ball controller thatallowed for the perfect combination of speed and precision. The Game BoyColor's small gamepad just can't compete, and the pint-sized targetscompound the problem. With such poor controls, it takes an inordinateamount of practice and patience to master this game, and many gamers maygive up in frustration before Rampart becomes fun. Play thetwo-player mode if possible, which is much more fun than the single-playerversion. --T. Byrl Baker

4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
If you've ever played this game before, then you know what to expect. So to you folks, it's just what you think it's going to be like! For those who have never played Rampart it goes a little like this: Build city walls around castles to stay alive and gain more points. Then place cannons. Then prepare for a frenzied round of battle! After the round, you do it all over again! I'm not sure when or how you win, but you just do. Even though it sounds simple, it's quite entertaining. I cannot play for more than a half hour or so at a time because it just gets too difficult. When it says GAME OVER, you just feel like you need a break. That, however, doesn't stop me from playing again later. Overall, the simple tetris like strategy for adults and blow em up to bits action for the kids make this a game everyone can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you liked the arcade game...
I haven't seen any port to Gameboy that so matched the arcade game as well as this one. I rented the game, expecting the worst, and am so pleased I'm buying a copy.Even the shouting voice telling you to "Surround Castle to Stay Alive!" is right where it 'sposed to be.Sure the graphics are small, and that direction pad is nothing like the trackball of the original, but the gameplay is just right. If you're like me, and still think the best arcade games are gone -- shucks, I dated my wife by dropping quarters together in arcade machines -- but you somehow have two or three gameboys sitting around when the little rugrats are asleep,I think you'll be happy with this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning:DO NOT BUY THIS GAME
Please do yourself a favor and exit this page right now. This game is the worst game on gameboy. There is no point to this game beyond the simple arcade bit. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars So addictive!
This game is a blast! You get some cannons, you get a castle and then the boats attack. After a timed period of battle where you are trying to sink ships while they are trying to knock down your castle walls, you get achance to rebuild, but you have to do it fast. This is one great strategygame. It's not good for little kids, but adults won't be able to put itdown!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great either
Battleship is a classic board game, but as anyone who owns a video game console or two knows - board games get old fast. This means a video game take on a board game is usually a failed experiment. However, with Battleship, the video game company decided to step things up a notch, and make a game that was far superior to its board game counterpart. Did they succeed? Read on for my review of Battleship - for the Game Boy.

PROS:
-The biggest problem with the classic Battleship board game was that you needed a friend to play with. That's not a problem here, because you can simply play the computer if you wish.
-If you still want to play with your friend, the game is two-player compatible, provided you have the proper equipment.
-Perhaps the greatest superiority about this game over its original board game counterpart is that you don't have to worry about losing those little pegs and ships.
-To make gameplay progress faster, the board is smaller (it's an eight-by-eight grid rather than a ten-by-ten grid like the board game uses.)
-Though the game, for the most part, follows the "take turns firing one shot" strategy the board game does, there are also special weapons you can use. This makes the game MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING than the board game version.

CONS:
-As with all classic Game Boy games, if you want to link up and play against your buddy, you need two Game Boys, two Game Paks, and a link cable. Together that's a pretty hefty price tag!
-The computer cheats. It has an UNLIMITED SUPPLY of special weaponry, and whenever it uses a special weapon, IT NEVER MISSES. Expect to lose to the computer A LOT.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a pretty good game, albeit a bit dated. If you find this one in the budget bin, it's a worthwhile timekiller. Just don't pay too much for it - it's a good game, but it's nothing revolutionary.

2-0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it but...
Well, this ain't the game you used to play on your table top with pegs.Sure, you're still firing at spots on a grid, but this time you've got devastatingly powerful superweapons like the Trident, which fire as many as 9 shots at a time. The submarine has a radar which can detect ships in the water.

The game is really long and it's fun to watch missiles fly at the little onscreen silhouette.I had fun with it, and it's good fun to link up with a buddy to play.If you have a friend who owns this game and will multiplay with you, get it; it's a riot.

However, you'll be hardpressed to find someone to play against. The single player game isn't that great because the computer blatantly cheats.Anytime the computer fires a superweapon it WILL hit a ship of yours.Anytime the computer uses radar, it WILL detect a ship of yours.Even if you only have your submarine left, and it's entrenched in a sea of missed shots, the computer will still waste an entire Trident 9-shot weapon on it, with the only empty space being fired at containing your sub.

Also, while you have a finite amount of superweapons to use(usually one of each), the computer can use them at will.In one particular battle, I actually had THREE tridents(the 9-shot) launched at me.How are you supposed to win against that?

Like I said, the single player game was pretty long. When you do win, you get an extraordinarily [bad] end-game sequence.Oh well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Classic Game Bombs
This game is often too predictable. For example, your opponent always gets a hit when they use submarine radar. In addition, it is not that challenging because after about a week or so, I had reached the maximumlevel. I consider myself to be not that skillful in general (regardingvideo games, that is). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive Fun!!
This is the most addictive puzzle game on earth. You pull down diff. colored balloons and toss them back up, line up 3 or more and they disappear giving you points!!The further you go the faster and harder the patterns are falling from the ceiling. It's even great in 2 player mode (don't do Game Boy/ Game Boy Advance this way, the Advance user gets tougher patterns). You will find yourself playing this game for hours, alone or with a buddy.Hopefully this game will be ported to a home system from the arcade(came out in Japan for Saturn but not here).

4-0 out of 5 stars Unique puzzle fun
A fairly accurate translation of the Neo-Geo arcade game, Magical Drop plays like Tetris in reverse--instead of objects falling from the sky and settling on the bottom of the playfield, you pull them off the ceiling, matching like-colored bubbles in groups of three or more. It doesn't sound like much, but it's incredibly addicting. The GBC version features smallish graphics, and some players may have trouble distinguishing the different colors (blue and green are sometimes hard to judge, as are red and orange). But by and large, it's a very good version, only enhanced by the ability to link up with a friend and play head-to-head. If you're a Tetris addict looking for a new challenge, Magical Drop is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun!
I first encountered Magical Drop in an arcade. An addict of two years now, I simply cannot get enough. If you are the type who enjoyed Tetris, you will ADORE Magical Drop-and that's all I can say!It is the fastest-paced, cutest, most hectic and most fun puzzle game you can find.Plus, the characters are so cute!Irresistible, for kids from 1-92.

2-0 out of 5 stars This Game Should Be Lost With The Continent!!!
I received this game with great excitement when I was very new to the GBA. At first, this game was very exciting. But after I passed the first three levels, it was way too hard. So all I know is that this game is really iffy. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that. I mean, sure, the first level, which is the boiling room, is cool. Then the second level where you need to rescue the fifteen-trapped crewmembers within 5 minuets. That's nice, too. Then the third level where you need to get to the aqua-evac escape subs. Even if it's boring, it's good. But then there's level four where you need to follow Kida toward Atlantis. This is why I hate it. It's impossible to win!!!!! Don't buy this game. Well that's it. I hope this review has helped you and encourages you not to get this game cartridge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good game
I am an adult who likes difficult games.I enjoyed this game because there was a lot of strategy. You have to gather a specified number of crystals on each level and find hidden objects. You can easily complete some of the first levels without finding things, but what fun is that. I like to discover every element of the game. Some levels have a time limit which adds to the challenge. Each level has a password so you can keep trying until you find everything if you want. I have played for hours and still have not collected every crystal, but have completed the game. Even though it is a Disney game, it may be to hard for younger children to complete. It helps to read the hints in the instruction manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mission Impossible...Ok so it's Possible, but...
Hey, I thought this game was pretty good. And if your wondering why I gave it 4 stars is because it was pretty dang easy.I beat it in like 10-20 minutes(No joke. One more thing to a reviewer of this game: How the heck did it take 9 hrs. to be the game!?).But over all the rest was pretty good.Graphics are like GBC's full potential and the sound was pretty good for sneaking around and being a spyAnd being that it is so short, I have beaten it way too many times. When I first got it, I would beat it like 3-5 times a day(HEY!! I was bored, and didn't own any other gaming system/console/whatever).So, anyway(sorry to ramble on), I am no amateur gamer(never found a game I couldn't be), I'd say it all depends on your skills.Just don't tell me it's too hard for you; I'll ignore you.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS WASN'T A VERY GOOD GAME FOR GAMEBOY.
First of all this wasn't a good game that gameboy made. It was to easy. Very easy that I beat the whole game in 9 hours. I didn't use any cheats to do it. I agree with one of the early reviews that the guards can't see you. You can be right beside them and they will would keep walking. The only way that they can see you is if youre in their path of walking. The only reason that I gave it a star was that the last mission was the hardest of them all. This game needs to be improved and longer because it only has 10 short missions. I would only recommed this game to people who love easy and short games. Also people who liked the mission impossible movie.

I like the way you only have a pistol or a grenade. I think there should have been more levels though the last one is almost impossible. I think the agent organizer was a good idea.this paragragh will self destruct in five, four... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
It is basically tetris without the tetris magic. The game is designed so that you will lose.On easier levels it is too easy to win on hard levels it is impossible to win.Random block dropping makes it difficult to stratigize.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't do it!
Don't let the name of this game fool you, it has nothing to do with puzzles. It's simply a tetris knock-off with little blinking faces instead of square blocks. It takes no time at all to zip through the levels.Justkeep you tetris game and don't waste your money! ... Read more
