3-0 out of 5 stars Not Sonic, Not Crash Bandicoot
This game is nothing like a Sonic or Crash game. For one Sonic is face past, this Kangaroo walks slower than you can believe, thats where I just couldn't take it, I was doing all I can to make Kao go faster but he can't, it just gets downright annoying. The graphics are pretty much average, bonk a couple of enemies, collect coins, the creators of this probably thought that this would be the next thing to Mario, but in fact it was the last. Scoot this over to your little brother or sister, but I would not say this is something I wan't to play for any period of time!

4-0 out of 5 stars Kao the Kangaroo is a neat and funny game
Kao the kangaroo is a really neat game, but it has good and bad points.the bad things are that the levels are WAY to short. it only usuallly takes a few minutes to get past one, until you get into world 3.there are 25 levels and eventually, they get hard.a big problem is the third boss, Zeus.there's a really bad strategy to beat him.you will work forever on that unless you search the web for the answer. It's funny because there are little eskimos chasing you and snowmen whacking you, etc....Some good things are that you get to ride space scooters, ride snowboards, ride a boat, use a hang glider, and play with other fun vehicles.I give this game a 97% for very fun gameplay, cool use of vehicles, and cute graphics, but way too short levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and addictive
This game is quite underrated. It is very fun, with 30 levels set across many different landscapes. The 3D graphics are excellent and you may enjoy it if you like Crash Bandicoot, Sonic...etc. It's not identical to these games but the gameplay is similar as you are control of a character who you take on a journey through 3D worlds.
There is a wide range of characters and levels, and it's not just the usual "run around killing enemies" scenario. You also get to go in a speed boat, go snowboarding and a space ship too. The landscapes are very detailed and the levels are set in a variety of areas. Overall, a great game well worth checking out.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Beautifully Done Experience But It Can Be Repetitive
I think this game has a lot going for it. It is beautiful, has great sound, and the levels are very well designed.Problems are also abound here also. The bosses are way to easy and sometimes it's too far to the next checkpoint so you'll be starting over at the beginning of levels alot. Other than these minor downfalls I liked it alot. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful graphics, boring game
Style over substance. Lots of pretty eye-candy, very dull gameplay. I was really looking forward to this game but what a disappointment it is. You fly around (cockpit view) blasting enemy ships with some very cool weapons, but within 10 minutes you'll want to play something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's not a videogame, just a graphics demo.
This has the distinction of being the one and only game out of dozens I've bought this year to be traded the very next day after I bought it.

Very simply, this is a fairly impressive-looking PC-based graphics demo in which you simply fly around, auto-targeting and killing enemy ships with minimal skill. That's it.There is a badly read mission background before starting, which uses the in-game graphics to show the ships you'll momentarily defeat.

The graphics are in general nice as stated, but even this gloss disappears quickly. For instance, it becomes quickly evident that the background which dominates your view appears to be a 256-color bitmap, with easily discernible banding.

This game represents everything that can go wrong with emphasizing graphics over gameplay.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good graphics hard game
i liked the graphics of this game but the game itself is harder than life. i found the controls to be quite disturbing and hard to manuver in. it get's really annoying when you almost beat the level and die and have to restart the whole thing over again. i couldn't even beat the 2nd level!!! the game does have it's good points. it is fun w/ gameshark and the graphics are beyond this world, but the difficulty and controls are bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Based on fun and graphics alone, it is a 6 out of 5.
Unfortunately, there are other attributes to a good title. The bad news is that like many other titles out for the Dreamcast, this game is not very deep(only 14 missions), gets repetitive faster than you think(kill fighter, take power up, use shield, etc.), and has one of the worst stories of any game I know that attempts a story. On the other hand, I have played several PS2 games and about all of the games out for the dreamcast and somehow this game has the best graphics out of any of them. The explosions are beautiful, as well as the multicolored space planets and such.It is quite fun to use all of the different weapons to blow up ships, and sometimes it is a challenge.Serious Dreamcast gamers should pick this game up and put it on hard mode.Normal gamers should pick it up for the fun to be had.Casual gamers should pick it up for the graphics.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Graphics...Average Gameplay
This is your typical spaceship shooter game. When playing this game you'll find some stunning images of the universe but the gameplay is only average at best. This game really suffers from long loading times and at times you'll have trouble finding what you're supposed to be shooting at.However, shooting down small enemy ships is quite easy and after a while it becomes a litte redundant. The game's plot is alright but I think the makers of the game could've worked a little harder at making the "feel" of the game more appealing.I recommend this game only to those who are really into space shooter games like Wing Commander and X-wing.Because this is basically the same game. ... Taking the '80s art of 2-D space shooters and melding it with 21st-century technology, Mars Matrix fills the screen with intricate backgrounds, dozens of independently moving objects, and intense arcade action. Your tools in dealing with an onslaught of bullets from all directions are a fairly standard laser gun, a powerful pulse weapon, and a special attack that can allow your spacecraft to inhale incoming fire and return it in a fierce volley. Old-schoolers will be pleased to know they can recover the spoils of defeated enemies in power-up form, and go to a weapons shop where they can upgrade their rigs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not beautiful, but loads of fun
I wish to make it very clear that if you are a slave to crisp, clean, detailed graphics and care nothing for the gameplay then you should not get this game. If you know a good game when it jumps in your face and don't care if it has less than beautiful graphics (and you like Galaga like vertical shooters) then you should do whatever possible to get this game.

This game is very fast paced. The ememies come at you pretty quickly, and their bullets can leave you with very little room to move. However, part of the greatness of this game is getting your ship out of a seemingly hopless situation and still getting loads of points. A really neat part of the game is the ability to gain experience points (more like cubes) and get a more powerful laser as you level up. It's not easy blowing up the enemy, avoiding their bullets, and gathering up the experience cubes from the vanquished all at the same time. Not easy at all.

The real beauty of this game is in the upgrade shop. There are tons of things you can buy to add onto the game. And these things are not easy to get. It takes a WHOLE lot of saved up points to afford even the cheapest items. There is so much to unlock that it will take you quite a long time to get them all. This increases the replay value ten fold.

The soundtrack is about the only thing that is wanting. While it does capture the frantic atmosphere of the game, it can be a little on the annoying side (in particular if you are not a fan of heavy metal). Even so, it is a small price to pay for such a fantastic game.

Closing Argument: If you are in the slightest bit a fan of vertical shooters, and don't mind if the game looks a little like an old DOS era game then this should be high on your list of games to pick up for your Dreamcast collection. It has all the stuff that makes a great shooter, and then adds some more to make it an extraordinary game.

3-0 out of 5 stars An ugly, but good arcade shooter.
If you like the type of arcade shooters that fill the screen up with bullets and are impossibly hard, you'll probably like Mars Matrix a lot.I don't think it's quite on the level of the games made by Cave, like DoDonPachi, ESP, or Guwange, but it plays very smoothly. The graphics are more than a bit of a throwback though. The pixels seem big, and the special effects are unimpressive to say the least.Mars Matrix is fun, but it is not a cutting edge shooter. If you are into these types of games, you should have Ikaruga, Mars Matrix is a bit second rate.

5-0 out of 5 stars First rate 2D shooter!!!
Wow, this game really brings me back... this is a 2D shooter with a plutonium fuel-injecton. At first, I was stunned by the amount of stuff flying around the screen at break-neck speed. Enemies swarming about spraying their missiles all over the screen and there you are trying to dodge them, blow up the bad guys, and collect points along the way. It is insane action and crazy fun.

In the beginning, you start with the choice of 2 ships with various attributes. As you earn points and hone your skills, you can use your points to "buy" new game features like more lives and more continues, all of which help facilitate your mission. The feeling of evolution keeps you coming back.

The controls are fairly simply. My only complaint is that the vacuum shield feature is a tad late in responding, causing you to get blown up if you don't anticipate getting hit a second early.

This is classic shoot-em-up arcade style action and I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars 2-D Shooter fans rejoice!
Who says this genre is dying? Mars Matrix is really one of the best shooters I've played in I don't even know how long. Perhaps not since Raiden have I had this much fun with a shooter. Yes, it really is THAT good. The price has no reflection on the quality of the game... it just makes it that much better of a purchase! Get this game on Amazon as SOON as it comes in... another AAA game for the Dreamcast!

Here's how I'd rate it...

GRAPHICS: 90% (hooray for pixels!) SOUND: 70% (sorry, the soundtrack is weak... it doesn't take away from the game though) CONTROL: 90% (I wish the vacuum was a bit easier to control, otherwise the controls are dead on) GAMEPLAY: 99% (shooter bliss! so many extras!) OVERALL: 95%

5-0 out of 5 stars If you loved Galaga, Xevious, Truxton, Raiden....
You will LOVE this game. It's really wonderful, with great and inventive play mechanics and a "shop" mode that honestly doubles your enjoyment of the game.It also posesses the one feature that matters most - PROPER PACING.This game doesn't start off impossible and get harder like most shooters (which is WHY the shooter is dying in the first place),rather it slowly builds and gives you a chance to get to know the various enemies and formulate strategies on the fly. It's a great, great game and a steal at the price. Thanks Capcom! ... After several years in video game retirement, Sonic the Hedgehog returns as the star of a graphically stunning 3-D adventure game that blows away every other game in the genre. Sonic is joined by five of his friends in a massive quest that spans over 50 game levels filled with remarkable visuals and a pulsating soundtrack. Taking full advantage of the unprecedented processing power of the Dreamcast, Sega's development crew, Sonic Team, has designed several gravity-defying game levels that will keep gamers hooked.

Our favorite level is Windy Valley, which requires you to survive the stormy perils of a tremendous tornado. This tyrant of nature chases you relentlessly before ultimately sucking you into the air and up through its eye. During the chase, the tornado manages to tear up just about everything on the screen. This dizzying visual spectacle moves so fast that you will literally hold on to the game controller for dear life.

Assuming you survive the tornado, there are several more challenging areas to conquer, including a level that requires you to snowboard directly in the path of a fast-approaching avalanche. During the Emerald Coast level, you will race across a precarious dock as a killer whale attacks from below, destroying the wood planks underneath your feet while you attempt to outrun the crazed creature.

We also liked the numerous mini-games scattered throughout this title. When you least expect it, Sonic Adventure tosses in some old-fashioned arcade action, such as pinball or bumper car racing. In between, you can raise virtual pets, known in the game as "Chao." These characters, which are saved using the optional Visual Memory Unit (VMU), can be combined with other Chao characters exchanged between friends or downloaded via the Internet.

Gamers looking to show off the strong processing power of the 128-bit Dreamcast will definitely want to pick up this title. Simply put, Sonic Adventure's graphics surpass those of any other game currently available on any home video game system. Let the Sonic assault begin. --Brett Atwood

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Sega Dreamcast game ever.
Sonic Adventure is the best game on Dreamcast and the game in the world. I love all sonic games this is great. The fastest on Dreamcast. A Sega Dreamcast classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sonic Adventure is a Dreamcast classic!
Sonic Adventure is an instant Dreamcast classic that shouldn't be missed by any Dreamcast owner. The game features Sonic in full 3d with newly detailed level enviroment. This was one of the first games to launch with the Dreamcast and is still one of my favorite Dreamcast game. The game features a brand new system called the "Chao system" you basicly take care of them and show them new moves it's very simple but you'll need to have a VMU card to do it.The game features more then 5 playable characters. The story in the game is very lame if you ask me they could have done better, not to mention the english dubbing is terrible so just stick to japanes language and english subtitles.

I'll make this short and sweet for you.Sonic Adventure is the best sonic game ever and has great levels, awesome 3d levels and lots of things to do but personally I wanted to beat the storyline instead of that whole chaos thing.I'm going to make this review short and sweet...

Good
-Great Level desighn
-awesome 3d graphics of Sonic for the Dreamcast
-Lots of playable characters which is really great
-the new Chaos growing process, but I really didn't do it I just play the storyline..
-Superb fast pace action

Bad
-horrindess english dubbing
-the cutscenes look horrible even the ingameplay is better then the cutscenes
-Some really bad camera angles ruin the fast pace of this game
-I kind of wished it was a SONIC ONLY adventure...but ohwell

The ugly
-Robotnick..ehehheh

Overall Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast is an instant classic packed with full 3d enviroment and Full 3d character model and fast paced action with some really great music. Some things like camera angles ruin this game and some really bad english dubbing makes it even worse! But overall this game doesn't dissapoint Sonic fans and that is why I'm giving it a

4.2 out 5.

This is still in my opinion the best Sonic Game ever but it was ruined by some flaws...Great game overall though..

4-0 out of 5 stars great game to just sit and play
Nice speed and gameplay overall. The only 2 cons are the camera angles and some of the enviroments aren't fully interactive. You can't enter all the buildings with each character.Even with that though it's a great game and some levels are extremely well matched with the background music "red hot mountain". I played this game for nearly three hours before realizing how long I'd been on it.Deffinetly worth the time and money to pick this one up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sonic Adventure definately rates Sonic's games up.
I love the story plot that this game promotes. Each character with a very deep story line. That's pretty awesome. The only problem with it is the fact that the story is never explained. It took me a while, but I began to get a good guess.I think, Tikal is dead (she might have been burnt or killed in the war when the island is on fire), and now that Eggman has her Chaos creature, her spirit's enlisting Sonic and friends to help her get him back.I think, when Tikal appears phisically, she's a ghost. If she isn't, how does she become a ball of light?Or, if she isn't, how is it she's still alive? When you see the temple, it's in ruins. But, when Tikal's spirit takes you back in time, it's so vibrant.Your guess is as good as mine, or if you might know the answer.Any way, that's where I am.But, besides that, the game is still noticibally deep. Each character has their own story, each character sees what they are meant to see out of the past, each has their own moves, and there are adventure fields too.How did they fit all they fit on one game.My friend has this game.I haven't played it recently, but I'm pretty sure I like it better then the director's cut version. Why, you ask?My opinion is, original is best. This story is probablyhow Sonic began.Maybe Tikal created all the Sonic world. Not likely, but maybe. The directior's cut version is also going to be out on PC.Boy, that would be cool.I wish I could have that, but my mom doesn't let us play games on this PC.It wrecked our last one.So, I'll have to go without. We're working on getting our dad to understand, and our mom's helping, that the old computer can't be of any more service. We should get a machine made for playing games. And, it's lookin' at a PS2.I'm okay with that,I like Crash Bandicoot the best, and all his big games can be found on PS or PS2.I have a game boy. It's been missing for a month because of 2 of my pesty little brothers and a little sister.I'm not writting a review because I bought this here.I'm writting it in the Customer review section because there wasn't a spotlight review yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST SONIC GAME EVER!!!
Sonic Adventure is not only the best 3D Sonic game ever...but it's also one of the Best Dreamcast games ever.

The plot is great. With the whole chao processing boss levels and the plot with Eggman. This just about the best Sonic game ever.I thought Sonic 2 was great...THIS IS THE BEST!

Lets start

Gameplay
Oh its great! It's awesome...I just loved how the game works and the levels get more and more fun and your tasks at the Station square makes the game exciting...5/5

Camera...
I put this for a reason..this game can get soo frustrating with the camera angle like for example if I need to get through a boss battle and can't see the boss and I'm trying to move the camera angle it will like get stuck and I can't move it.But still it's worth getting...and yes I'm still going to give it 5/5..

Graphics..
Oh...SPECTACULAR....yea My spelling sucks..
The graphics are awesome...I love em'...great graphics for Sonic and great game to launch the once popular and now dead Dreamcast..Well Thats a lil' harsh saying dead...LONG LIVE DREAMCAST...The graphcis in this game were ten times better then a few PS2 games

Voices are horrible in this game...Listen to it in Japanes...It's better then the horrible English voice acting..But the music and sound make up for it..4/5

Sound
THE SOUND IS GREAT!I Love the music in the game...it's great...5/5

Sonic Adventure is everything you wanted in a sonic game...It will always be from my opinion sonics.....GREATEST....Adventure...

Thats what the game should have bin titled..I also like how everytime you meet a character you gain them..Thats pretty cool

OVER ALL THIS GAME GETS A 5 OUT OF 5...GREAT GAME...I LOVED IT...

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable game.
My daughter loves this game. I bought it for her last Christmas and she has had hours of fun with this game. However, there are certain parts of this game that are very difficult and I wonder how the creators expect children to complete the levels. But as I said earlier my daughter does enjoy this game immensely.

2-0 out of 5 stars I'm11 I know this kind of stuff
I'm 11 year old gamer and moviegoer. Now I think the Movie was OK not a World Wonder though. I was saving money up for this game. When I got it I played constantly but at level to out of 4 I got really bored you will too! Please don't buy this its confusing for kids and adults should be sleeping through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUN!!!!!!!!
I bought this for my little boy but its a hard game and me and my husband stayed up all night playing it.I wouldnt rate it for a 6 year old but this game is definitly fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearly an under-rated hit.
I purchased this game for my sons as an after-thought and now we are all hooked. The graphics are ok but the plot and puzzles are extremely interesting. There is enough entertainment in this little heralded gem to keep all ages happy - for example my five year old is happy wandering around and smashing presents - using the "patented" grinch bun buster method - while the nine year old is zooming through mazes and consulting yours truly for puzzle solving tips. Now dear old dad - is curled up in front of the set wandering around in "who" disguises and swiping eggs.It is great fun and if you don't have add it to your collection!

4-0 out of 5 stars "The Grinch" is GOOD!!
Believe it or not, this is really a fun game.... The graphics are average for a Dreamcast game but the small touches of humorand Suess based drawings make up for it. You play as the Grinch and run around various locales filled with "Who's" and basically try to ruin their Christmas. From stomping presents and snowmen, dropping beehives down chimneys and hurling rotten eggs into windows, this game is fun and has some challenging puzzles. Believe me, while kids might enjoy this game it seems directed at an older audience who can appreciate the subtle (and not so subtle) humor and it definately takes some patience (or cheat sheets) to get by some of the puzzles. Another fun aspect is that you can control the Grinch's dog Max to get certain items. It is a blast to run around town as the dog and bark at people. I have spent about 10 hours playing this game and I am not tired of it yet. So, if you want a fun "Mario/Spyro" type adventure with large worlds to explore... check out The Grinch! ... Read more
