Out of all the portable consoles in history, the Gameboy Advance, has probably the bestlineup of games I've seen, and you can addthis game to that list. ------ Peter Parker (Spiderman) is talking to hisgreat love Mary Jane, when he sees on the tv,that a great number of crimes are beingcommitted in New York. Spiderman then must try to stop the criminalsand try to bring peace and safety toNew York City.Spiderman though will have his hands, as hemust fight a number of formidabble and familiarenemies that Spiderman fans will recognizne. Even making the game that more challengingis the fact that in several areas of the gameSpiderman must rescue a group of hostages. Graphics 10: Spiderman games have come a long way sincethe first Spiderman came out from ParkerBrothers for the Atari Systems. From the Genesis system to Supernes, to Gameboy "Rhino", "Hammerhead" and others look likecomic book counterparts. There are really 3 great graphics area in the game, and they are done very well.First is the intro of the game which is excellently done with a nice blend of music.the intro looks extremely cool, because it looksvirtually an animation of the comic book. The 2nd graphics area is stats screen. Thestats screen reveals in what area Spiderman is,how much webbing Spiderman has left, and otherdetails. The 3rd area in the game are the missionand intermission screens. These scenes are all 2 dimensionally animated Sound and Music: 7 The sound and music in Spiderman, just likethe graphics for the game are extremely good,in fact it was better than I expected!!! Everything from Spiderman's "spider senses" to"Rhino" growl and killer attacks, all comewith their individual sounds. Overall the sound in "Spiderman MysteriosMenace " is very well done. The music is divided into different areas ofgame: The levels of the game, come with different tunes and soundtracks. The stat screen in the game also comeswith it's own music. The best music in the game, that I loved wasthe intro at the beginning, it mean it just really cool!! In fact, it had me jazzed upto play the game. -------------- I was extremely satisfied with the controlsfor this game. Unlike the Playstation and Dreamcast versions of Spiderman, which can get a bit frustratingthe control for "Spiderman Mysterio's Menace"is virtually perfect. Wow!!! Spiderman has a variety of moves, combos and First is Spiderman's web slinging. Simply by tapping the A button twice, Spidermancan swing from building to building with ease. You can also websling and attack enemies atthe same time!!! This has many advantages of the game, asmany enemies are at angles, or high altitudesin the game. Spiderman's combos, consists of a regular punch, Pressing the Start Button reveals the statsscreen which reveals, the area Spiderman is, along with his web supply, the areas Spidermanhas completed, and the number of hostages Overall, I was very pleased with the controls.Activision and Vicarious Visions did a greatjob in this area. ----------- I gave "Spiderman Mysterio's Menace" a 10 because virtually all areas of the gamewere excellent done. Activision has continually improved the Spiderman games that they done have done over years. There are also many challenging enemies in the game. I also like the fact, that game companies "Spiderman Mysterio's Menace" is just a greatgame, and I highly recommend the game toany Spiderman fan.

Amazon.com Product Description Back in the days of mobs and torches, monsters had a hard time fitting in. Tomake things easier, the brothers Frankenstein moved, along with theircreations, to a new land where monsters could live in peace. Thus, Monsterlandwas born. Now one of the brothers has gone missing and Monsterland is beingoverrun by evil. It is up to an unlikely group of heroes to step up and savethe day for monsters everywhere. Reviews (1)
The gameplay itself is fairly straight forward although there are a number of tools that can be picked up or "purchased" in between levels. These include weapons, health, magnets that attract "atoms" (the things that the baddies provide when they die), etc. You can choose between drac, frank, or wolfie and as expected each has different attributes (speed/power/strength).Unlike Super Mario Bros. you cannot switch between characters mid-level. As an occasional gamer (and a generally old dude) I wasn't as fond of this title's gameplay although I can clearly see the appeal for the everyday gamer. The gameplay was somewhat repetative and required more quickness on the game pad than logic (told you I was an old dude :->). One distinct rarity for a non-nintendo produced title is the built-in game saving feature which in itself is reason enough to buy this title: to prove to the manufactures that we would rather not have to scribble down long tedious codes on little scraps of paper. ... Amazon.com Review Those unfamiliar with the character and story should expect yet anothercute take on the 2-D side-scrolling adventure game, but Rayman easilystands alongside Mario in terms of brilliance. Rayman, a cute,big-nosed guy with pompadour bangs and an infectiously upbeat attitude, isthe Guardian of the World. Oddly, he has hands and feet but no arms orlegs to support them. That doesn't stop him from doing his thing, however. His powers include jumping, clinging to ledges, using his earsas a helicopter, and, most importantly, punching. A helpful fairy dolesout these powers to you as you complete tasks and progress in the game.Rayman's task, as usual, is to defeat enemies and free creatures(called Toons) caught in great iron boxes. Also, Rayman collects"tings," which he can use to barter with magicians as he rids hisbizarre little world of oppression from the likes of colorful bossesMoskito and big, bad Space Mama. The most striking features of Rayman Advance are its graphicsand gameplay. The design is extremely creative; there are tons ofthings to bounce on, ride, and grab, and plenty of other tricks to do.It's the sort of game that always has you doing something new, which isno mean feat considering it spans 60 levels. Rayman is a first-rate 2-Dplatform game for all ages. Hey, pardon the pun, but, well, everyoneloves Rayman. --Andrew S. Bub Pros: Reviews (86)
PROS. -Nice backgrounds! it gives you the mood of gameplay -Incredible gameplay features over 60 levels CONS. -The music is pretty bad (not the tunes but how the tunes sound) cuz its pretty dark an rough that sorta takes out fun in gameplay also, some tunes are different in game areas from PS version that should have bean left alone (the intro an boss tune was acceptable but i MISS that tune when u beat a boss!) thankfully, this was the biggest concern, nothin else really.
This game, first of all, is not easy. There are many places during the course of the game where you may get frustrated with the difficulty of the level. It's not that it's hard to figure out what to do to finish the level, it's that it's difficult accomplishing what is obviously necessary to advance through the level. While the levels can be tough to get through, practice and memorizing will get you through eventually. A second problem is the fact that extra lives are very difficult to come across, and once you get them, finish the level, and then save, there is no getting them back. This forces the player to gather 100 Tings in order to get extra lives if you can't locate the actual extra lives. Another problem is the fact that I don't think there is any way to get continues back after you have used them. This game is also pretty short. While it very attractive visually, this means that there was less room available to make lots of levels (at least that is my own theory). This is not like Super Mario World where there are more than fifty (if memory serves) levels in the game. While, short, it is still challenging enough to require a considerable amount of time to complete. All in all, this is a very good game to buy if you're into platform games. Even if you have it PlayStation, it is worth getting a portable version. Despite it problems, this is still a game that should be in every GBA collection. ... Read more | |

-It's really dark, making it hard to play
There are 7-8 different worlds in this game, and each world is so big you HAVE to use the map function or you will totally get lost. Each world has 4 levels so that makes a LOT of levels in this game. I love that there are a bunch of secret rooms too. You start blasting at one of the enemies and all of the sudden a bunch of the screen breaks away and you find a secret room with different powerups and treasures too! This doesn't just happen once or twice, it happens alot. You choose to play as a Butt-Ugly Martian because each guy (there are 3) has different strengths and special weapons that help you thru the game. You have to choose carefully because if you blow it and the martian your playing gets zapped, you can only choose from the remaining martians to continue playing. So you have to plan to use the fastest martian for certain parts of the game, and the martian with the blow-em-away gun for the tough bosses, etc. It is a BLAST!! Speaking of blast, this is where the BUM GBA game really blows away other GBA games I have played. Each martian has firepowers that gets better and better the more pickups you find. Most games for kids are pretty lame when it comes to weapons, but not this game! You get lasers and bombs and a bunch of other surprises that you will like. I played this game everyday for the last week since I got it and I am not even close to finishing it yet. There's one more thing I want to mention because it is pretty cool. You are playing as a martian and your trying to blast all the other aliens that are trying to take over Earth, see? But there's this other guy named Stoat or Stoad Muldoon (I think this is right) and he's an alien hunter and he's trying to bag YOU. So sometimes your the hunter and sometimes your the prey and it gets CRAZY! I found myself getting really freaked out during parts of this game and that felt pretty fun!

This GBA cartridge is an exact port of that old game. You play the part of Moe, Larry, and Curly as they try to raise money to save an orphange. Money is earned by playing a series of mini-games. For the most part, the game play is as easy as the older versions except for the oyster eating contest. That part is much easier with a mouse than a control pad, but I still played it decently on my GBA. I love seeing these older games re-released for new systems. The cartridge should hold up much better than my diskettes. Plus, you don't have to worry about system requirements. I don't know what the market for these retro games is like, but I'd like to see more old computer games released like this one. Most of my old favorites would need a keyboard so a GBA version would be unlikely (like the old Sierra Space Quest, King's Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry series), but it might be possible for a console.

Good game to get if you don't have anything to do most of the day.
It is a fine game but the play is somewhat repetative and not so engaging for the grown-up gamer.I expect that younger games would have a good time with this though. That said the graphics are fine as is the sound. The levels and scenes are laid out so that there is plenty of variety which is always a good thing. One thing to note is that on some levels the the doorways are hard to see. They look more like someone shining a light in the shape of a door on the wall instead of a real door itself.Once you get used to this, though, it is very clear where the doors are. ... Amazon.com Review Though this game is basedon a sequel, most gamers will immediately recognize the first couple of levelsfrom the classic 1953 film. Thegame starts with a visit to now-grown-up Wendy's house to take her kids on theirown adventure to Never Land. Once there, Tinker Bell is kidnapped, so you've gotto rescue her and all of the Lost Boys spread throughout levels in the game. Ason any other platformer, you must run, jump, and dispatch baddies (Peter doesthis with his trusty dagger, which he can also throw) to get to where you'regoing, but here you can also fly--provided you have Tink and enough pixie dustby your side. The power-ups and secret items are plentiful and pretty easy tofind, which seems to be the right difficulty approach, given the youngeraudience of this game. Older kids and adults may want to play the game at theharder difficulty setting in the options menu. There are also clips of the moviethat can be unlocked by finding hidden film reels, but these are short andrather bland. The downside of this title is still very common among portable games: no batterysave feature. Rather than saving your progress through the game, players aregiven jumbled strings of letters to mark their completion of the end of a level. It's not a dealbreaker, but it means players will need pen and paper handy ifthey want to continue. And there's no way to save midlevel. --Porter B.Hall Pros: Reviews (3)

Visuals: 4/5 Sound: 3/5 Nothing spectacular here. Better sound effects than III or IV, but not by much. Instead of going "BOP" when a baddy gets shot, it makes a small crush sound. The lazer shots don't quite sound as annoying either, but the music score is a little annoying sometimes. Gameplay: 4/5 Everything you'd expect from a Gradius game, except for one thing: In previous Gradius games, if you pumped the difficulty up as high as it would go, and you died in the middle of a stage and lost all your power-ups, it was extremely difficult to come back. That does not hold true for this game. You can continue from just about any part of the game and make a comeback fairly well, as the designers usually place a significant amount of powerups at each respawn portion of the game. The only time that the game is next to impossible without powerups is when you've beaten the game several times through, and are playing on a high loop setting. Extra: 4/5 It's great that you can continue from any respawn point that you have reached on any difficulty setting! This allows for gamers to pick up, play for a few minuettes, and when they die, put it away so that they can play later at almost the spot they died. I also like the hint section, even though it doesn't do any good if you are playing on anything higher than normal difficulty. The reason I gave 4/5 for extra, is because in previous Gradius games, the player could customize the ship more. In this one they have a bunch of presets that are fairly well balanced out. Overall 4/5 It's a great game for gamers that are new to shooters and shooter fans alike. The lower difficulty settings, good respawn points, and hint modes, make the game pretty eassy for beginners. The ability to continue from spots after looping through the game allows for advanced shooter gamers to play at extremely difficult settings. I'd call this game a must have for GBA owners, unless you're really not interested in intense gameplay.
Gradius gives lots of cool and customizable options, but your ship's starting speed is so slow you can't even avoid being hit by enemies with 2-3 seconds to react!Once you can get a speed power up things balance out, but seriously the game is complete frustration trying to dodge slow moving enemies with a sluggish ship and still not being able to do so. Avoid this game unless you are a Gradius freak and need to re-live the old days.

Amazon.com Review The malcontent Brickster has escaped the confines of the last game (playersneedn't have played the first installment to play this one), and has taken thisisland town apart brick by brick. To add to the confusion, he's unleashed anassortment of crazy--though mostly harmless--robots to get in the player's way.The game's protagonist is a pizza delivery boy named Pepper, and for some reasonit's his job to find the scattered pages necessary to rebuild the town'sfeatures. He finds these pages by interacting with the townsfolk and followingtheir cues on which tasks to perform and in what order. The diversionary tasksare made up of quick, fun minigames--including an early takeoff on Whack-a-Mole. It's tough to compete with the more action-oriented games for this platform, butLEGO Island 2 does a good job. One problem we found is that the game isjust too easy for older kids, while the amount of dialogue one must read fromthe game's various characters might intimidate younger kids. Of course, parentscan share the game with their kids and help them through the tough parts.--Porter B. Hall Pros: Reviews (7)

that, however, is all the praise i can give it. the controls of this game are probably the worst i've ever encountered. i got stuck at one point because i couldn't get down the stairs. i got up the stairs fine to go into an upstairs area fine, but i had no idea how to get down. i spent twenty minutes trying to get down the stairs before i gave up in frustration. pressing down didn't work, going to the stairs and pressing down and in the direction of the stairs didn't work. i tried many, many combinations of buttons to get down the stairs and found out that none of them worked. i considered stopping my adventures in Revenge of Shinobi after the aforementioned stairs incident. i turned the GBA off, but then decided not to let the game beat me. i finally figured out how to get down the stairs, but it just got worse. the password system instead of a battery save is horrible, and doesn't seem to work half the time (ie: sometimes the password i received to get back to a particular level worked, sometimes it told me the password was invalid). the levels are tedious--you just walk through them and slash, slash, slash away with your katana. in the end, the game won the battle and i stopped playing after beating the first two bosses. i felt cheated and angry that such a classic could be turned into such a horrible abomination. unless you have a severe masochist streak, i would stay far, far away from this game. it will reduce you into a frustrated, crying lump on the floor and remove any good memories you may have had about the Shinobi series. i think that this is the worst game i have ever played. ...
