Amazon.com Review The game plays like a classic overhead-view shooter. The controls aresimple, although strafing with the shoulder button takes some gettingused to. Gameplay consists entirely of shooting enemies, findingobjects, and unlocking doors. It's a wonderfully simple formula thatwill appeal to gamers of all ages. It's far from a perfect game, though. The graphics pale in comparisonto other Game Boy Advance launch titles--the early levels lookparticularly dull. The developers opted for assigning passwords aftereach level rather than letting players save their progress on thecartridge. The collision detection can be irksome--you'll swear thatyou've hit an enemy, only to watch him continue assaulting you. Finally, most players will finish the game in a few days (some in justone). Army Men Advance is a poor choice for the hard-core gamer, butcasual and younger gamers are sure to enjoy its simplicity.--Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Reviews (21)
The game starts with your choice of either the Sarge or Vikki, though there is no visible difference between the two. You are given a list of mission objectives. To complete each level, you must obtain all of the given objectives. Objectives range from finding keys to free POWs to sabotaging enemy facilities. Of course the objectives grow increasingly difficult as your progress. The game's overhead view bares a strong resemblance to the 1992 release of Demolition Man on SEGA CD. You use the D-pad to maneuver in the corresponding direction. With unlimited ammo at your disposal, all you need to do is stand diagonally at an angle to your opponent and fire. The AI is terrible at recognizing this strategy and will continue to fire in one of the basic four directions. It is very rare that you will find an enemy actually firing diagonal. From a visual stance, it appears as if there was little attention to detail. In the character select screen, Vikki has this green haired Malibu Barbie appearance. In the game, she looks like a peach humanoid with a green ponytail carrying a black block. Sarge keeps his full green motif, but looks just like all the enemies, except he is green. The floor remains a monotonous gray, and there is a definite black seem between the characters and the backgrounds.I know you may think I am being harsh on the graphics, but when compared to other games out there, this is just not acceptable. This is another classic example of a game that should never have been made. If you want the feeling of playing with Army Men, go to your local store and spend $5 on a few bags. The fun will last you longer than this game. 3DO should have either passed this project up or given it more quality. I do not recommend this game, however for those who are still curious, rent it first.
There is no music, but thats no big deal for this game. Sincerelly: Glowis

So, we gave Mario Party a try. First off- You don't need an E-Read to play this game. With that said, this game has been very popular with my 5 year old son and 8 year old daughter. The rules were mercilessly simple (compared to the un-playable Harry Potter Quiditch card game), and we were up and playing almost instantly. For my 5 year old son, we played open handed the first few games so he got the gist of what each card meant (there is a text explanation of how to play special cards that needs explaining.)After that, he now associates the character on the card with what it does. My only "complaint" with the game is it can take awhile to finish; I'd say for 3 players, 30-40 minutes is the norm. Like most games, the fate of the game is largely chance based. However, like Uno, some skill and thought can definitely help you to win the game.(Should I save this card or use it now... what happens if I do / don't do this now. Etc. ) It those characteristics of the game that I enjoy seeing my kids work on.
My brother and I played a bunch of times the other day.Just as i thought i would win- a minigame resulted in him taking all my progress.the lead switches hands at the whim of minigames. The whole experience is fun and each game is different. ... Read more | |

But it is nice to see these 80s classics in any form.I spent tons of quarters on these games back then, and they are hard to find now.The Gameboy has the power to do them justice.Shame that the controls are not perfect, but still worth a look!

Amazon.com Product Description Phalanx is not a typical arcade shooter, however. It is designed to push players to the extreme limits of their skills. But even if you don't have genetically altered reflexes, you can still find the appropriate difficulty level and develop the skills necessary to save the universe. The game includes several cutscenes, an engaging story line, slowly building drama, and eight varied missions. Features Reviews (3)
Marvelously represented, the graphics on this shooter are slick, smooth, and sweet.Regular aircraft and bullets are in the form of brightly detailed sprites.Oversized motherships are animated suitably with the multi-layered backgrounds.Stages are well themed like the entire planetary scenery along with the caverns. There‘s a number of oddities like oh say, giant eyeballs and blood vessels! From time to time though, the graphics tend to enter the discolored and shadowy zone. One problem with the darker atmosphere is that objects soaring on the screen become tough to tell apart from. With some sight deprived, impatient gamers may feel the pang of frustration come up and about.Forgiving the quibble, Phalanx is a graphically stunning invention.Although the audio territory is a bit flawed with its trivial beeps that have no similitude of weapons discharging in space, the explosions in the rest of the game are notable.A variety of fast-paced techno lingers in the air as players turn enemies into cannon fodder. If you played previous games like these, expect the futuristic soupçon. Even without a deep or distinguished narrative or characters, Phalanx does what it’s supposed to: provide a juggernaut of space-shooting chaos.Frenetic bundles of enemies have diminutive intelligence, but their moving missiles should occupy players to keep a close eye on their shield level and tightly steer the intensity of their thrusters.Boosting its statistics is the amount of sheer joythe levels cram in unyielding quarters. With a decent presentation, secret missions, and solid 2D play, this one’s the best 2D shooter out on the GBA, and is a must for any shooter fan. ... Amazon.com Review Pitfall is a 2-D side-scrolling adventure in which Harry Jr. ison a mission in the South American jungle to recover artifacts, gold, treasure, his pop, and other goodies. There must have been an explosionin a major cache somewhere, because this stuff is sitting in trees, onthe ground, and in subterranean locations. Harry and Harry Jr. likelymugged Indiana Jones because they're wearing his outfit and his whip. They also find lots of snakes and go on a mine car ride in this game. But the lack of originality doesn't matter that much because thegameplay offers pretty good stuff overall. Harry Jr. must run and jumpover quicksand and the gaping maws of crocodiles, swing on vines, climbropes, and fight chattering skeletons and chittering monkey foes in hisquest. He's also got to solve a few puzzles along the way. While the graphics are enhanced in 32-bit finery for the Game BoyAdvance screen, the details and colors are muddy, making it hard toappreciate the lush environments. Seeing where you're going and whatyou're grabbing can be difficult, even with perfect lighting. Also, thegame suffers from repetition and a lack of inspiration. There's only somuch Harry Jr. can do, and you'll find him doing it a lot, over andover. Still, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a worthwhile rompon the handheld even if it is outshined a bit by other, cleaner-lookinglaunch titles. --Andrew S. Bub Pros: Reviews (31)
