5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutly Awsome!
This game is so much fun, and one of the mosty addictive games I have ever played, next to Final Fantasy X.At first it takes a while to understand how everything works, but it is worth it.I seriously could play this game for like 20 hours at a time, taking not pee breaks or for food.Buy it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars more addictive than... anything
I can play this game for hours on end.If I beat every map, I can just download more that other fans have made using the fantastic map editor.A great day includes playing this game with a few friends while drinking a Sobe and listening to Queens of the Stoneage.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it
I first played it at my friends house, me and my friend couldn't find the disc for civilisation 2 so we decided to play heroes 3, i thout it was real mad, now I want it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best computer games I've ever played
My short list of best computer games I've ever played:
    Sims
    Heroes III
    Roller Coaster Tycoon

I am a 19 year old female who doesn't usually enjoy fighting games, but i do like fantasy. My only complaint for this game is that you need someone's IP address (or vice versa) to do multiplayer, and I've never quite been able to connect and play with someone over the internet. (I always get a message saying it can't connect) Maybe I'm just missing something obvious. But, I have enjoyed countless hours of fun with this game. its a great game to play with a friend or two, or three :) . this is a WONDERFUL strategy game, and has various difficulty levels (great for someone like me who doesnt want to deal with expert level, but doesnt always want it to be too easy). This game is well worth any money I paid for it. I have been playing this game for about four years now, and I still love it. Buy it!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes Of Might And Magic--and Beyond
Heroes III Complete is the best Heroes of Might and Magic game yet. This one has not only the original "Heroes III" (The Restoration of Erathia), but also includes both expansion packs (Armageddon's Blade and the Shadow of Death).

If you're new to the Heroes of Might and Magic series, then here's a quick overview. You start out with only one hero and only one town in a standard scenario. You can also hire more heroes once you've built a tavern. You can build different buildings in your town, but only one per day.Different buildings allow you to do different things, such as improve the fortification of your town, increase your weekly income in gold, learn different spells, and aquire troops for your army.Once you've built up a good army, you can go out and conquer land and other towns!

I like this even better than the Heroes IV game because it comes with a map editor and campaign editor. In the map editor, you can create your own world to play on, customizing everything down to the last little Gnoll Marauder. You can even customize the victory and loss conditions. The campaign editor allows you to string many maps together--custom and pre-made--into one campaign. This is a really good game. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
I was so excited when I bought this and so totally disappointed!!! There are many on-line sites where you can practice playing poker for free against real people. Anyone of them is more entertaining and a better learning experience than wasting time with this. The graphics are on a par with playing "pong" on your TV in the seventies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally realistic poker software
This is an excellent holdem game - it is really the only one that simulates what real tournaments are like - from the blinds, to the chip races, to allowing you to customize tournaments to your liking. Unlike hoyle or pokerstars, it has a strong AI. Other people have commented on how hard it is to hit a straight or flush, but that is real poker. The odds are that 9 other players you play against will get better cards more often than just you. Plus, version 2 is coming out soon and that promises to have online play and more! A truly great game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Reviewed by y'all way to high!
This game is marginally better than that Hoyle Casino joke, but it has no resemblance to a real game. The AI is OK, but there are WAY too many great hands, that seem to ALWAYS beat you on the river card. I've played hundreds of hands, and when I cheat to see what all the community cards are I end up missing my straight, only if I fold first. I NEVER hit it when I'm digging for it!!! EVER!!! Can't tell you how many times I've been sunk by a boat when I do hit my flush. Hole cards are awful for my hand, but every one around me is getting AA, KK, OO, JJ, AK. I think this game is poor, and only gave it 2 stars because Hoyle's was my only comparison, and it's palin awful!

4-0 out of 5 stars Helps a lot for beginners but AI makes big mistakes too..
Overall, it isnt a bad game. The AI opponents do often call allins with nothing. Also odd is how occasionally a whole table will call ur allin's during a tourney!
The odds regarding starting hands-ie Ak beats A6 normally, is fairly good. If you want to learn holdem (only NL in this game) this really helps but it wont help good players much.
It's surely worth 20 bucks simply b/c of the fun factor.

    2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
I bought this and played in several of the 40-player tournaments, winning one of them and finishing second in another. The program does a good job of making the experience fun and easy, and there are some nice features that you can turn on or off as you see fit, including what they call the "cheat mode," which lets you look at the cards of uncalled hands and see community cards not dealt when nobody calls. When there is a showdown after somebody has gone all-in the probability of winning the pot for each hand is given as it is on TV.You can speed up play or slow it down, and you have the option of jumping to the end of the hand after you fold--an option that one soon chooses and stays with!

There are three levels of difficulty, although I didn't play long enough to get a real feel for the differences.I did notice a rather annoying and ultimately totally off-putting bug (or perhaps, in the spirit of some programming traditions, maybe this is a "feature" that helps the neophyte player win).Quite simply some of the computer players called with hands that could not beat the board!

Now it is true that there are times when it is correct to call with a hand that cannot beat the board. These are very rare however and typically occur when there is a straight on board.Everybody has that straight (at least), and if it is the best hand, the players left at the showdown split the pot.Clearly if the board is AKQJT, with no more than two cards of any suit, it is the nut hand and no matter what the bet is you have to call and split the pot. However, in this program some computer players were calling with hands that made no pairs, no flushes, no straights and were undercards to the board. For example, one board was something like A89TQ of three different suits. One of the computer players called with something like 64.As any hold'em player knows that call makes no sense. It is just throwing money away.

This discovery really turned me off the program because even at the most elementary level of play, real players do not make such suicidal calls.

The package also claims that "Computer opponents learn and adapt to your style of play."What this statement should mean is that the program does things like fold a lot when it notices that you don't bluff much or call a lot or raise if it records a lot of bluffs from you. This "learn mode" is what makes poker-playing 'bots very difficult to beat, and would be an essential part of any program that presumed to be able to beat sophisticated human players. My problem with their learn mode is that I didn't see any evidence of it!

I would like to note in passing that some years ago Mike Caro, the self-styled "Mad Genius of Poker," developed a poker engine that was able to beat some very good human players. However, I am not aware of a program that can play at the highest levels of the game, a program that could beat a table of world champions, for example, a program comparable to chess-playing programs that can beat grand masters.Maybe such a program exists and I am not aware of it.My guess is that such a program is possible, but very difficult to write.

Anyway, I would not recommend this program and I am sorry that I bought it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely addictive
I love all Phantom slots but this is the best yet. They just get better all the time, and if you visit their website (PhantomEFX.com) message boards you'll see why.Someone from support is on there all the time trying to make things better for their customers.Even to the point of changing an upcoming game from 9 lines to 20 lines because that's what their regulars wanted! They have a new line of slots coming out in August, and they're promising to be even better--but I don't think you can go wrong with either Nickels & More or Nickel Alley.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best slot title around
After playing through 3 console casino titles in the past week and being disappointed in each of them, leave it to Phantom EFX to save the day.Nickels and More is a vastly entertaining product featuring a variety of video and reel slot machines and even 2 IGT licensed games called Checker King and Bunco Nights (which is sort of a variant on Yahtzee). While I have never seen these 2 IGT games in a Vegas casino, they are both very addictive.

As far as the video slots go, Phantom EFX came up with a nice variety of games ranging from 9-paylines to a whopping 20-paylines."Adventure" is one of my personal favorites. This 20-line machine features a unique bonus round structure that challenges you to a series of puzzles.Complete one and the next time you hit for the bonus, you play a new bonus game. There are at least 6 different variations to this which keeps the game fresh."Road trip USA" is another fun game featuring a bonus round that can be multiplied 2x or 4x depending on which "Interstate meter" you fill up first. An unusual slot variant is "Railroad To Riches", a 15-line machine with horizontally scrolling reels. One of the hardest games is "Grey Matter", a 15-line machine that features trivia questions for the bonus round. These trivia questions are far from easy as I have yet to answer one correctly on the first pick. All of the machines have great graphics and fun sound effects that complement the game perfectly. The reel slots aren't bad, but I'd like to see Phantom EFX come out with a volume of nothing but video slots. In addition to the slots, there is a "Prize Vault" which allows you to earn fictional prizes as you accumulate VIP points on your "slot club card".It's almost a game within a game, and if you listen to the prize descriptions, you'll find a few funny surprises as well.

Overall, if you're a slot fan, you definitely can't go wrong with this game. It's easy to pick up, easy to play, and very hard to step away from.

5-0 out of 5 stars PhantomEXF Does It Again
"Reel Deal Slots Nickels & More" is great.I look forward to each release from PhantomEFX.The games are creative and the graphics are so detailed. There are a good variety of 5, 9, 15 and 20 line games (Adventure is great & comes with great bonus rounds). And with this edition you can also add stand alone games from PhantomEFX website. This game is full of surprises.Like going to Las Vegas without having to lose all you money. For the money go with PhantomEFX.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun!!!!
Again EFX has put out another very fun set of games, to play on my home computer. My two favorite are the two you can find in some casinos, Bunco Nights, and cash King checkers. Both are fun and addicting. All the other games are like those you will find in casinos, some 9 lines, some 15 and a couple 20 liners. My favorites are Doctor, Doctor and CAT CRUSADER. There are also a couple of 3 coin slots if you like those I prefer the 9-to-20 liners with bonus games. All the games are fun, the graphics and sounds are very cool. Also when your play each game 20 minutes, gather enough VIP points to Buy all the prizes (in two open rooms and a secret room), win $10,000,000 Total you gain three more slots, two regular slots and one slot with a Video game. I highly recommend this set of games, and heck its way cheeper then going to the casino.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Awesome!
Wow!Its hard to find just the right phrase for this game.Phantom EFX has taken slot play to an entirely new level.I thought it would be hard to out-do their previous title "Nickel Alley", but WOW!Every game is awesome, well thought out, and addictive. The prize vault in this game is amazing!Nice job guys, and this is a must play! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The three best Worms games ever made, packed together.
I've been a Team 17 fan for years. When Worms came out first in 1995, I was pleasantly surprised.

Worms 2, Worms World Party, and finally Worms Armageddon (the best of the lot) use the same engine, so they might look similar at first. But once you start getting used to them, you'll notice some big differences (too much to list here).

Some of the best games ever made. For this price, this is a steal. Get it now! Demos available at www.team17.com, as well as patches that offer Windows XP compatibility as well as some extra features.

Weapons include your classic bazooka, shotgun, punches and air strikes but you can also take out your enemy with zany things like banana bombs, sheep, carpet bombs or by pushing them off of the edge.Just make sure you have the system requirements and you are in for some F-U-N!

    Amazon.com Product Description

Star Trek: Armada 2 is the sequel to the Star Trek real-time strategy title Star Trek: Armada. An innovative RTS, Star Trek: Armada 2 adds a new level of strategy and realism to the original by allowing players to command from a 3-D tactical view. Set in The Next Generation universe, the game's story unfolds through three single-player campaigns from the Federation, Klingon, and Borg perspective. Additionally, the Cardassians, Romulans, and Species 8472 will join the fray throughout.

The sequel also features more armada than before. Sweeping 3-D gameplay immerses gamers in a universe of space, supremacy, and survival with more ships, longer campaigns, and all-out battles. You can arrange fleets in many different 3-D formations with up to 16 ships, which dramatically affect strategic and tactical decisions. The outcome of every encounter depends on the player's ability to manage resources, crew, and fleets of ships across the galaxy.

Players command the fleets of three different races through three separate single-player campaigns for a total of 30 missions. Additionally, gamers can take control of six separate races in multiplayer mode. Each has divergent combat styles and tactical approaches. Other noncombatant aliens such as the Ferengi make for willing trade partners. Gamers become fully immersed in the explosive battles with the addition of the tactical view mode, a ship-to-ship combat viewer that allows you to control fleets from on top of the action. ... Star Trek Starfleet Command 3.Could there ever be a better game? After you play this game, you will answer that question the smae way I did.No.In SFC3, you can play as Federation, Klingon, Romulan, and Borg. From the sleek Soverign class vessel (U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-E) to the massive Borg Cube.Fire a variety of weapons, including Quantum Torpedoes, Phasers, Disruptors, and Gavemetiric Torpedoes.Beam you troops over on hit-and-run raids to disable enemy systems, or to attempt the impossible: take over the entire vessel.
Create fleets of up to five vessels, and gang up on small vessels.Invade enemy territory in missions ranging from Planetary Scan, Assulting defensless stardocks, or taking a suicidal run on an enemy starbase.
Launch Probes, cloak, use an anti-cloaking scan, launch specialized shuttles, an perform eratic manuvers.Manage your sheilds to prevent enemy boarding parties from completeing their mission.Name your ship, and create ships from the shows like the U.S.S. Defiant, and visit noted locations such as Sector 00,01 (Earth), Romulus, Remus, The Borg Homeworld, and the legendary home of th klingons, Q'ronos.
Engage in 4 epic campagins, icluding for all major star empires, The United Federation of Planets, The Kligon DefenseFleet,The Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg Collective.Or, you can just ignore polotics, and go on to conquer the galaxy.
Anyway, you can count on SFC3 being the best STAR TREK game ever.It is not worth the $90.00 it's being sold for, though, so buy it at a computer game store.Good Luck Conquering the galaxy. You can e-mail me if you have any questions about the game at comderbashir@yahoo.comJolan Tru

Silent Storm is a turn-based WWII game that's heavy on tactics and team-management. You're in control of an elite corps of specialists for use on missions to destroy, sabotage, and perform reconnaissance against the Axis (or Allied) forces on the European front. You can create your team from a field of 40 male and female operatives from a variety of nationalities.

The action takes place on 3-D battlefields, and there's lots of stuff you can blow up and interact with. The developers went all out making sure each battlefield offers a lot to do, the enemy artificial intelligence is sharp, and each mission can be approached in any way you see fit. You can choose a well-rounded team, a stealth based group, or a bunch of Rambo-types out for carnage.

There's no multiplayer, but the fun campaign can be played from either side, and, given the personality and operative choices, there's a lot of replay value to be enjoyed. WWII tactical strategy games don't get much better than this. If you're a strategy fan, better enlist now. --Andrew S. Bub

1-0 out of 5 stars dont buy this game
I tossed this game in the trash can...very boring...silly may be a better word.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite
Silent Storm is a fairly good game but as others have said there's quite a few bugs. I put up with the bugs in Sacred because I loved the game but this Encore game is not my favorite.

2-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag.
First impressions of this game are good: The graphics are crisp and detailed with an impressive ragdoll engine, quality music and sounds and promising gameplay. However as the game progresses it is impossible not to notice shortcomings on many levels.

The gameplay is fun enough, nothing revolutionary (think Fallout Tactics in WWII). The classes are unbalanced with a lot of skills and weapons being pretty useless, so if you invest in the wrong skills in the beginning the game becomes unnecessarily and unfairly difficult. But the basic premise is fun until the latter parts of the game where certain, ahem, developments completely destroy any balance. If you haven't played it I won't ruin it for you, but trust me on this one.

As I've mentioned the visuals are impressive and inspired, but the poorly coded 3d engine will cause the graphics to chug horribly even on high-end systems. This is a major disappointment. Voice acting is decent, but the script and general translation/localization is awful. It angers me that such pains were taken by the artists to make this a beautiful game when other elements, such as script and story, are thrown in so carelessly.

The environments are almost fully destructible, which is good because your characters will sometimes get stuck in walls or stairs and you'll need to blow them out. It is bad because sometimes a stray shot will hit a stack of barrels (barrels are always full of some explosive material apparently) and it will destroy a stairway you'll need to climb to be able to finish the mission and you might not find out about it until a half hour later. I played this game out of the box unpatched, and oh, the horrible horrible bugs. Some actions, you are told, cannot be performed at first but hold the cursor over the object a few seconds and it might change. Inexplicably characters will get stuck or be unable to move to a certain place, and a few seconds or a turn later everything will be fine.

The story and characters are poorly developed and the game ends abruptly and disappointingly. Certain elements of this game are impressive and have a lot to offer, but to enjoy this game you'll need to be tolerant of some pretty severe flaws.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best new turn-based tactical game out there
Silent Storm is not an innovative game. It borrows all its elements from its predecessors - X-Com, Fall-Out BOS and the late UFO. What makes S2 such a great game is its level of execution. Putting it simply - it's very well done. It is very easy to learn but still has nice depth of play. The AI is nice if not very creative. The verity of environments and equipment is good. But most important, the graphics and sound are superb. This game offers loads of fun to all you frustrated turn-based fans (I know you're out there) and gives new hope to this flickering genre.
You can choose to play either the allies campaign or the axis campaign. The story line is okay but doesn't really matter. This game is about squad based tactics. So if you loved BOS, this game is definitely for you. You manage a squad of up to 6 soldiers with some level of specialization. The game starts real-time and moves to turn based once combat is initiated. Except for your hero, the rest of the squad is replaceable, although this is somewhat problematic as the pool of recruits does not grow (or improve) as you gain experience.
The environment is beautifully detailed and completely destructible (yeah baby!). This feature alone opens a whole new set of possible tactical solutions to some otherwise tight spots. The excellent sound also helps understand what's going on and anticipate enemy activity. These add up to an extremely immersive gaming experience.
The two elements missing from this game are the economic factor (you get all your equipment for free on top of being able to loot the levels) and base building (notice I'm actually wishing for a WWII style x-com...). Nevertheless, this is still a great game and I can't wait for the release of the sequel - Silent Storm Sentinels (S3)

5-0 out of 5 stars this game has the works
i thought silant storm was a great game, not only were the graphics amazing but the way it is played is great as well.
You can destroy anything i mean anything if a doors locked shoot it if somethings in you'r way shoot it.

you can also make you'r own characters... their faces, voice, body all and all i gave this game a five out of five for great everything. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected a very complex and fun game
That was what I expected.I feel that the game was a let down overall because I kept expecting something really cool to happen, but it pretty much never did.It was kind of interesting at best.I gave two stars because three would indicate that I found it worth while. Most of the puzzles where either easy, or lacking in the ability to be solved without hints. I don't think I could have done it without the strategy guide that came with it. Also, I found that one of the puzzles didn't work in the way the manufacturer probably intended. To be fair, the humor was funny and very PYTHON which I liked. Additionally, I thought the whole concept was very good and I kept expecting some cool things to happen, but ultimately it did not pan out.Good Try.

4-0 out of 5 stars And now, for something completely titanic...
Starship Titanic is not based on Hitchhiker's Guide, but is very similiar in style. The game is very good, but can be difficult at times. However, unlike most games where dialogue is just something to proceed the plot, inthis game it is actually a funny and entertaining diversion thanks to thegreat dialogue engine and voice acting.Between the funny, but annoyingparrot and the Elevator attendant who constantly talks about his wartimeexploits (what war, we don't know).Buy this game if you want a funny andinteresting ride. Also, buy the book to learn about the story.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well, he knows how to write good books
The game was quite a bit of a letdown, as I am a big fan of Douglas Adams.Unfortunately, the game is not all that fun as a game.I felt even let down in the humor (or should I say humour) department as well.It did notseem as though Mr. Adams had full control over the project, as bits andpieces seemed to be his sense of humor, and other bits seemed to be awatered down Monty Python attempt. The bits that are funny are definitelyfunny, especially the talking message delivery system things. The look ofthe environs were astoundingly beautiful, but I feel that it lacked a soulbehind it.The game puzzles were at times very easy, and other timesastoundingly non-intuitive and difficult. For instance, there is onepuzzle that simply does not give you a clue that you are doing the rightthing, and you have to do it repeatedly for the game to finally give in andlet you have the victory.I won't say what it is, but it involvessomeone's butt.Overall, the humor was what kept this from getting a onestar review, but even that was a disappointment.

3-0 out of 5 stars The fun wasn't in the puzzles...
Usually when people play adventure games they do it partially because they enjoy solving puzzles. In this game the puzzles seemed to only be a small part of the enjoyment. It was more fun to play with the message delivery system, tease the parrot, and vandalize the ship... the puzzles were simplya means to do more of this.

If you are a fan of both Douglas Adams andMonty Pyton you will love this game, otherwise some of the jokes might belost upon you.The novel that comes with the game is a big plus, as itexplains things a bit better.

Game play wise the interface is clean andhas a unique feature that allows you to actually type in dialogue thatyou'd like to 'say' to the other characters instead of selecting phraseslike to many other adventure games. There were times when it was somewhattedious to run from one end of the ship to another, but that tends to be agiven for any adventure game these days.

If I were to voice any greatcomplaint, it was that in the end I didn't feel as though I'd accomplishedall that much and kept wondering where the rest of the game had gone.Ithink more time was spent on making the game LOOK neat instead of making ita deep and interesting adventure. It has some really hilarious moments(the parrot is great!) but not all that much more. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not A Good Game
When I purchased this game I was hoping to have some reasonable AI, but I was dissappointed. All the players play the same; it doesn't matter if you are going against T.J. Cloutier or Gus Hanson, they play the same in this game. When the cpu gets any pair they jam the pot till they are allin. If they have no pair, they simply give up. This programming is way too immature for the serious player; however, the price is reasonable for the low quality entertainment it provides.

2-0 out of 5 stars Average at best
I wanted to play a computer game with an AI instead of online against other human players, a game that would both entertain and somewhat challenge me.

This is an avearge game at best if you take poker serious and want to improve your game do not purchase this game.It is for entertainment purposes only.

    Major flaws in the game:

    - Regardless if a player is called, his winning hand is showed

    - It *seems* whenever you are raised and then fold the opponent will show his hand (see flaw above) and he will be bluffing you, however when you do have a solid hand and you call a raise you are 9 out of 10 times beat and they opponent usually has pocket pairs

    - I'm not 100% sure but I think hands are not rewarded correctly. For example I went "all-in" with A-7 and Phil Ivey had A-6, my 7 was the 5th card to make my hand, and his 6 was the 5th card to make his hand, yet it was a split pot?!I could be wrong but I did a long double check to make sure.

I've only had the game 1 night but this is my first impression on the game.

The controls and flow of the game are also too involved and require you to hit way too many buttons to keep the game moving.

2-0 out of 5 stars You got to be kidding
    HI

i barely know how to play Texas Holdem but if the superstars on tv weren't any better than the AI on this game i'd be superstar #1....the game is so easy to win at it's not worth playing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Game
This is one of the best poker games available. The graphics and sound are worlds above the rest. There are three play modes available, Season, Round, and Bankroll, two of which are no limit, and the third is a limit game. The opponents play at a reasonable level for experienced players, but is not too difficult to beginners. I've played many poker games in the past, and so far this is the most fun and addicting game I've come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best poker game out there

There are a lot of really bad texas hold 'em games out there (I've played a bunch of 'em), and this one seems to go against and the trend and actually is very well done.

It follows the Poker Superstars TV show. You get to play against some well known poker players - like Doyle Brunson. It looks pretty nice and follows the show's graphics, music too. I really liked the crowd aplauding my good hands.

The AI is pretty good, much better than average, and a lot better than some of the really bad ones I've played against. It definitely took me a while to win a couple of rounds, and still working on winning the tournament.

All in all, a pretty great game, glad to finally have a poker game that I like to play - perfect for laptop play on my business trips.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME... IF SEGA cared about the PC community
This is by far the best sonic 3d game I've played. It is the closest you will get to the golden games of sonic in the genesis. It is fast, some stages like casinopolis are back, the special stage is just like that great sonic 2 stage, and last but not least charachters go back to their original, great roots. Sonic speed, Tails flying does make a difference in this game, and Knuckes, though it can not climb, it is quite usefull for uncovering the different routes, just like in the genesis.
The other teams are just the same, given changes in the degree of difficulty, but in reality the only difficulty you will find in this game... is the lack for a proper Console to PC transfer.

Withouth the analog control, it is sometimes very difficult to manouver arround stages, and you will fall quite a lot.
Also, PC graphics and performance can easily surpassed those in the consoles ... ok grated you have a good gaming desktop... and sega didn't took advantage of this. The only addon I have discovered so far for the PC, are a bunch of wallpapers, really nice by the way, and some mouse pointers, that is all.

If you have a console and an extra $20, probably get the console
But if like me, you give up on console when the DC died. Get this sonic game. It is fun, a different yet familiar gameplay, that will give you some old school Sonic fun. Given the controll issues I'm not giving it a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! This thing is a blast!
I have played the original Bugdom on my PC so much that the CD has become thin enough to read through. The only complaint i have ever had about the original game was that the controls were not as responsive as they should have been. This caused 'wandering'. Sometimes you're trying to go a certain way, and the controls made it difficult. In this game that problem was addressed. Wonderfully! The graphics are updated, the control scheme is simpler, and the controls are very reactive. You can stop on a dime and change views very easily. I have finished the game and found no game-stopping glitches. I did, however, find some 1st level head scratchers. During ONLY the 1st level, i would get booted to the windows screen often. I was about to give up., but i was enjoying the game so much i pressed on. I'm glad i did. The moment i left level 1, the problem never happenned again. This game is everything the original was, and with a lot of tweaks that would've made the first one even better! I would tell anyone i know that they would find this game enjoyable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Battlezone "First Edition"
Battlezone is one of the first and most outstanding online multiplayer games ever developed.Released in 1998 on the ANET server platform for PC Windows with over 90% of players accessing the game through 56k modems, Battlezone supported instant action, strategy and deathmatch games. In 1998, only a few Activision, Inc., a few visionaries understood the coming importance of online multiplayer gaming for the genre, deathmatch, strategy and team play. This online game, developed in 1998, is it still actively played and supported by a group called the Battlezone Club (http://www.battlezoneclub.org).This game incorporates the longest development for online battle design and action as well as strategy of any game ever developed, which includes, in my humble opinion, "Full Spectrum Warrior" and many other "followers."The original is still in being developed by this non-profit organization for its community of players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe one day...
There is only one game out there older than 5 years that I still feel the obsession to play to this day.The single player mode is enthralling, but the multiplayer is where this game shines. The factor that you had the ability to build your own maps to battle on was such a dominating factor. Now that the game is slowly dying, I am afraid that there will no longer be a game that has the amount of creativity at this level.

5-0 out of 5 stars A game to be remembered
    A fine-tuned mix of action/strategy.
After it snapped up the rights to Ataris classic coin-op Battlezone, there was a concern by some gamers that Activision would take the quick-and-easy route by dressing up an old favorite and shoveling it out the door in the hope that nostalgic name recognition would see it through. Activision had much bigger plans in store. Mixing elements of action and strategy along with sharp graphics and an entertaining story line, this new Battlezone emerges as the most addictive, ingenious and approachable game to appear in a long while.

While there is a nice tie-in to the original -- you still drive a tank (a hover tank to be exact) -- this is not the Battlezone you remember from the arcades. Set during the space-race of the late sixties, Battlezone kicks off with a good old fashioned "Us versus Them" conspiracy tale that pits the USA against the Soviet Union in the dark reaches of space.

It seems that during the early days of the space program an alien alloy (referred to as bio-metal) was discovered on the moon that allowed researchers to make amazing advances in technology. Unfortunately, competition for this mysterious metal became fierce as both superpowers (U.S. and USSR) began amassing forces on the surface of the moon. The Soviets launched covert operations under the guise of its space program; while NASAs highly-publicized lunar mission became the cover story for the USAs secret military build-up on the moon.

While the story is a bit far-fetched, its extremely well done and very entertaining. More importantly, the story translates into a solid premise for both the action and strategy portions of the game. The single-player mode can be played from either the U.S. or Soviet sides, but the game is designed to be played from the U.S. side first. During the first few missions on the U.S. side, players are gradually eased into Battlezones seamless mix of real-time strategy and action, and from there, chances are youll be hooked.

Starting with a bio-metal recycler (the most basic construction unit), youll construct vehicles to scavenge scraps of bio-metal, build base defenses, and construct new base vehicles capable of building more advanced structures and vehicles. You command all the action from the cockpit of your hover tank, one of several specially-designed attack craft capable of negotiating the harsh environments of alien worlds.

Controlling the action should be second nature to most action fans, with a combination of mouse and keyboard controls (joysticks are also supported) similar to those in Quake. But unlike the easy key re-mapping of Quake and its ilk, customizing the controls to your liking in Battlezone can tricky, and occasionally impossible. My preferred mouse/keyboard configuration -- A for forward, Z for back, Left shift for left strafe, and X for right strafe -- cant be duplicated in Battlezone simply because the Left shift key cant be remapped. Additionally, getting a customized setup in place is a pain if you want to re-map a key thats already in use, since youll have to change that key first, then re-map the desired key.

The rest of the interface however, is a textbook example in efficiency. By using just a few number keys on the keyboard, you can easily manage all aspects of command; whether its building tanks, defenses, or ordering an attack, youll hardly ever need to take your eyes off the action. About the only time you need to divide your attention between action and management is when you have to designate construction areas for your constructor, or specify locations for turrets and howitzers. Other than these few instances, youre free to be a mobile and active part of the fight while still commanding the bigger picture.

Under your command is a range of offensive vehicles made up of fast scout craft, well-armored tanks, deadly bombers, and mobile artillery; the opposition has the same. Using the same simple control interface used to build your base, youll order your forces to defend a building, attack a target, hunt for enemies, or follow you. But unlike most games, where you send wave after wave of expendable units at an enemys defenses, the catch is that youll only be able to have ten offensive and defensive vehicles at any one time -- and every vehicle needs a pilot. When a tank or vehicle is destroyed, these pilots are ejected and must make their way back to the base on foot. Unfortunately they also make tempting targets for passing vehicles. Even if youve got enough resources on hand, you wont be able to build a new tank until there is a pilot to take the wheel.

This last bit plays a large part in how youll fight in Battlezone. Youve got to pick your fights with care, hitting vulnerable targets in swift aggressive strikes to avoid taking losses, and youve also got to know when to retreat behind your defenses.

This continuing process of fast attack and constant defense gives the battles in Battlezone a constantly evolving and dynamic feel and throughout each of the single-player missions, chances are youll learn something new. And when the single-player game is exhausted, Battlezones support for up to eight players is certain to extend its life for some time to come. Standard deathmatching is available, as is the full strategic game. While the deathmatch option is a fun no-brainer, most players will gravitate to the chaos and conflict of the multi-player strategy games. This is some of the most intense multi-player action youll find as fierce battles erupt for control of sparse scrap fields, friendly pilots get squashed, and defenses are laid to waste. Its fast, furious, and incredible amounts of fun.

With its raucous multi-player action, flawless presentation, and effortless interface, its hard to find much to complain about in Battlezone. If you ever thought that action and strategy was an unholy alliance, sit back and let Battlezone re-write the rule book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Action-Strategy that keeps you coming back for more!!
Battlezone is by far the most fun and entertaining game of all time. It excels in every aspect!

The story is based on the (fictional) discovery of an alien "bio-metal" that has landed on Earth in a meteor showing in the Berring Straight. This bio-metal can be shaped and trasformed into powerful fighting machines. The Americans feel this is the key to controlling space. But they have miscalculated one possibility: the Red Soviets have found the metal too, and the countries are then pitted against each other in a war to end all wars...

As far as gameplay goes, Battlezone brings a new perspective to gaming; the action/strategy combo. While you still control vehicles and resources, you are also a formidable combat unit, capable handling things like enemy attacks and mission objectives all by yourself. The AI for units in this game sadly falls short of spectacular. They have trouble navigating tough terrain and do not take full advantage of their fighting abilities during combat. However, they do make powerful wingmen to have on attacks or for defending targets such as your base.

Battlezone provides endless hours of intense excitement for experienced or novice gamers. It is most assuredly a must-have!

5-0 out of 5 stars A LOST GEM IN A SEA OF GAMES
This game is truly a Masterpiece of Stategy mixed with a First Person shooter.A lost gem and one worth finding. The ONLY drawbacks were you must keep video and sound card drivers up to date!It had some minor glitches with some drivers I had.I am running Battlezone on an AMD Thunderbird 1.2GHz with 512mb ram and a 3Dfx Voodoo5 video card and it looks AWESOME!! So for a game that is over 2-3 years old it still shines with the BIG boys!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Would be fun if I was 2 and had nothing better to do
Sorry to say this title was one of worse games my family has played on the PC in a long time (and we buy and play about 1 game a week). I bought this for my 11 year old as she loved the other spongebob games. But after about 1 minute of "playing" this game, she gives me this look, "like you really don't still think I'm an infant do you?".
The basic "fun" of this game is point and clicking on various objects in bikini bottom and having spongebob say some cutish comment about them. This is interspersed with very simple puzzle solving and general walking around.
If you want to save your hard earned cash, avoid this one like the plague.

2-0 out of 5 stars Warning:This is NOT the same as the PS-2 / X-Box versions
This games is based on the new Spongebob movie, and the official website advertizes this game as being available on PC, PS-2, X-Box and Gamecube. The trailer for this game shows 3D action like that of Spyro The Dragon, Jakk3 etc.

Installing this game on the PC revealed that PC users have been stiffed with a stupid 2D-eqsue "Monkey Island"-type puzzle solving adventure game operated by soley the mouse.

The previous Spongebob Squarepants game "Battle for Bikini Bottom" for PC is the same. The PC version of both games are NOTHING REMOTELY like the versions on action games for PS-2, X-Box, Gamecube etc. The website makes no distinction. The official website is totally misleading on this. The trailers for both games show Spongebob and Patrick in 3D action. This is severly not the case for either the PC version.

While this game is funny, it's a fizzer. Any kid can complete the game within a few hours, and will never play it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars More of the same...almost....
Each and every Spongebob game has one major thing in common. Bikini Bottom. They are all placed there. I've played them all. And, at first, this game feels nothing more than familiar. However, not to far into the game something new happens. You get to play PLANKTON! (This statement is made in relation to the PC version of the game. The console versions may have applied this idea, but i am only a PC gamer.) This game took the best of the ideas from the past games (my favorite is Employee Of The Month) and then integrated an usused idea. You get to play this game from multiple perspectives and play various characters throughout Bikini Bottom while doing it! So, i believe this ranks up at about number 2 in the series for quality. It mightve made number one and gotten a five star if it weren't for one thing. Certain locales seem to have not been completely debugged. The mouse gets wacky while you're there and lip-synching gets off in that area too. But, after you leave, the other areas are just fine. I am a pro with my computer. I'm a 20 year user, and cannot determine how to stop this from happenning. But, the game never crashed or lost information. No lock-ups or anything like that. So, it was only a minor irritation. Worth a 1 star drop. Besides that, this is a fun and quite clever game. Enjoy! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A year on and still no improvement
I first started playing Planetside about a year ago, deciding that after reading all the marketing blurb that this was the game for me! - great graphics (and they are great graphics), the lure of huge online battles and lots and lots of vehicles to throw around and do some damage with - oh yes!!

However, I soon tired when the huge battles failed to materialise and any major battles you did manage to find to get involved with was decided simply by who managed to turn up in the most numbers on the day. No amount of skill or tatics on your part part could make a difference - its all down to numbers.

Now if this was a game with some sort of goal, a common target which you and your allies were all aiming for and once achieved, was rewared in some way; then this wouldn't seem so bad. But Planetside is perpetual war; you join battle, kill and get killed, gain some experience points, respawn, start again and never really get anywhere. Just logon, join in with what ever struggle happens to be going on at the moment and then logoff, thats the game. And you pay for this too - yes, a monthly subscription applies.

With the lack of anything comparable (except Tribes2) I'm disappointed to come back after a nearly a year to find that even with an expansion pack, nothing has been improved. It still looks great, but is still a totallay unsatisfying experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor implementation, horrible community
Whenever getting into any SOE game, beware. The community is the low point by far. SOE forums are known for laughing over the deaths of pets and even players. Recently when a player of planetside had a brain hemmorage and died, the customers thought it the funniest thing in the world. You would be horrified to hear their position on the death of a pet.

And that is usually the problem with SOE products. Although they have the technology and the financial resources to back up creation of top of the line products, they continue to fall far short in customer service and community management. In all internet forums there are jerks, the difference is that other forums (such as Atari's Unreal Tournament forum) actually get rid of the filth and manage the forums. The only things that disappear from SOE forums are posts that decrease sales of the product through exposing weaknesses in them.

As for the game itself, it is a great idea and poorly implements. Client side hit detection in the game is a hacker's paradise. Furthermore, the company seems more interested in slowing down the achievement of players than making an enjoyable experience. Their recent expansion, Core Combat, was yet another example of their incompetence.

There are many players in the MMOG industry. The days of the EQ monopoly are over and I suggest you check out their compeditors instead.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok but still not worth the price, give it more time
I have played Planetside and have heard about the caverns. Basicly people tell me its:

    The home of the snipers

    Desserted

Has no affect on bases you own

The good points to it though:
The flail, capable of putting a base under seige from another base. That is approximatly 15 kilometers or so, depending on drive time at 60kpm. A note on the flail: it has immense firing power, can hover (don't believe it can go over water though) and has an insane firing range. Good with multiple when trying to weaken a bases defenses and keep them hiding inside.

Modules. These give your base, only one base, advantages. Such would be like the Health Module. This lets you respawn with 120 health instead of normal 100.

Pain module induces pain into anyone that enters the control room (the places that you must get into the hack the control console to thus turn the base to your empire) or even gets too close to the control room.

The shield module which is extremely usefull in keeping fire out of your base. Though tanks and such could shoot over your wall, the shield module puts up a shield at your base gates (two in a base) so that no enemy fire can enter, and no friendly fire can escape. Thus they must enter your base to actually attack you.

Modules can be countered by destroying them.

The weapons are also good. If you're New Conglomerate and don't like the short range of the JH (though MANY of players from opposing empires will tell you its range is still too strong at long range) you can get the maelstrom. I might be wrong, because I forgot the name. But it is only found in the caverns and allows you to shoot an energy type beam.

Basicly, at its current price I would say that there aren't enough good things about this expansion to encourage me or any of my friends to buy it. If there were more vehicles, more weapons, and could let you go higher in BR and/or CR, I would surely recommend it. But there aren't. I say the only good thing in this expansion is the Flail and the Shield and Pain modules. But since there are plenty of other people with the expansion, you don't need to worry about it. :-)

2-0 out of 5 stars nope not for 30
The game itself was on it's way out because of the lack of content and buggy environment. Many servers there is difficulty find a battle other then the one cluster where all the worlds people are and even then it's not that much.

Core combat split that up further. With more place to go explore, and more things to dig up, it has improved the content... at over half again the game price. That's 10$ per new vehicle.Sorry but that is just not worth it, the game is on it's way out and the developer time seems to be going to Star Wars Galaxies, the fair haired child of SOE. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars moon tycoon
I first bought this without looking at the reveiws at amazon, but i found i thoroughly enjoyed it.It was the first tycoon game that was in 3d which was why i bought it.I really like tycoon games. This one was great! The missions are clearly possible, the graphics are great, the gameplay is great and the structures look really cool.Even the inflatable houses look neat. There are some cons though.Such as:The screen movement is choppy and it's VERY hard to keep your budget in tact.In the reagular version you start out with 50000 dollars to build your entire colony. When you finally finish you can look back at your work and enjoy it because the layout they made is beautiful, a real eye opener.I too wished when i was playing this game that i could just settle in one of my colonys. It is clear how any sim would want to settle in on someone's colony.
Recommendations: I would recommend this to anyone who is good at keeping good budget at these games.

This game is very interseting, and fun. Takes a little time at first to get things moving, and you frequently run out of money. But has awesome grapic features. I would really recommend this game for a "tycoon" lover

4-0 out of 5 stars fun BUT
My grandson (6) and I love the Tycoon games, however, leveling out the ground on this one is REALLY tedious since you have to do 1 block at a time.
We found a trainer to keep our money up and everything else is not only doable but fun if you like to build.
Justin really enjoys the Zoo Tycoon series, we have all 3 and at 6 years old he told his nana he wants to be a anthropologist when he grows up.Now he's excited about this one and who knows???He may want to be a space colonist when he grows up :-) ... Read more
