Amazon.com Review

The Dreamcast system is, in a word, awesome. Fire up Soul Calibur, and instantly you'll appreciate that the graphics and gameplay are even better than in the arcade version. And Sonic Adventure, with its light-speed gameplay, is sure to wow even the most jaded gamer.

It's amazing that such a small machine (it's about the size of your mouse pad) can deliver such incredible performance. Chalk it up to superior engineering. Dreamcast's only downside is that it comes with only one controller and a demo disc. In order to truly take advantage of Dreamcast's capabilities, we recommend outfitting the controller with a Jump Pack and a Visual Memory Unit. Getting one or more extra controllers is also a good idea, because some of the best Dreamcast games support up to four players at once.

Why it's so cool:

  • Ultramodern components: Custom-made video, audio, and processor technology blows away the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation and puts Dreamcast in the same league as PS2 and XBox.
  • Integrated modem: In another video-game first, Dreamcast comes with a 56K modem. Use your regular Internet service provider and the separately sold keyboard to access e-mail, shopping, and the World Wide Web. Not only can you upload high scores, participate in chat discussions, and download updates and enhancements for your games, but, through a membership to the SegaNet Internet service provider, you can play Quake III Arena, NFL 2K1, and other games against Dreamcast owners over the Internet.
  • The Visual Memory Unit (VMU): More than just a memory card, the VMU is a miniature portable game system that fits inside a controller--so its LCD screen is easily seen by you but hidden from your opponent.
  • All-in-one entertainment: It plays games. It plays audio CDs. It connects to the Internet and lets you browse the Web or e-mail friends. Our note to the cost-conscious: If you have a Dreamcast system, you just don't need a separate CD player or a separate computer. Dreamcast does it all, and does it well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sega Dreamcast is better than a Gamecube.
I love the Sega Dreamcast so much. The Dreamcast has online and a Gamecube dose not. A Dreamcast is easyer. A Gamecube is more harder. Dreamcast has more better games than Gamecube. Gamecube is just a copy of a Dreamcast. I give a Gamecube a 7.5 . I give a Sega Dreamcast a 9.5 . I wish they haven't stop making games for the Dreamcast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of good fun playing!
I bought a Dreamcast last week for (...)with more than 20 games and I'm very happy I did! Some games on it are just amazing.. I have an xbox but I love fighting games and Dreamcast has a bunch of quality ones. I can also play, nes, snes, mega drive and mames games on TV: that's just the best ! Very cool console.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreamcast
The release of NHL 2K2 marks the end of the Sega Dreamcast's remarkable run. While production of the Dreamcast may be over, the legacy lives on. In the dreamcasts short lived life time 248 Dreamcast titles were released. The first console to venture into online gameplay, Dreamcast has a built-in 56K modem. With 128-bit processing, 3D audio capabilities and stellar 3D graphics, your gameplay experience just got better.

When you purchase Dreamcast, you receive the Dreamcast console, 56K modem, one standard Dreamcast Controller, Stereo A/V cable, power cable, ten-meter phone cable, Internet browser CD-ROM, game sampler CD-ROM, and instruction manual.

Peak graphics performance of over three million polygons per second provided by the PowerVR 2DC graphics engine for the fastest, most sophisticated 3D graphics ever seen on a videogame console.

128-bit 3D processing power provides amazing lighting and other special effects.

Built-in 56kbps modem for the ultimate in multiplayer online gaming.

16 megabytes of memory for huge, complex game worlds.
64-voice CD-quality audio.

Four built-in controller ports for easy multi-player action.
Built-in high-speed expansion ports.

If you a collector and want the last sega console ever made then dreamcast can be had for about $40 to $20 bucks depending on where you look

1-0 out of 5 stars a chunk of moneydown the drain
I bought it, but then I bought sonic adventure 2 after that. I turned my console on, then the screen turned pitch black. It froze. If you want to play sonic adventure or sonic adventure 2, buy a NINTENDO GAMECUBE. I know those work. This system is 6 years old. If you buy it, a big clump of money is down the drain. Now, go to the homepage and type 'gamecube' in the search bar for amazon.com and start shoppin'!

5-0 out of 5 stars What is wrong with you ppl?
Ok, Ive been reading the reviews and I'm A bit angry. Sega revolutionized the market with Dreamcast.Without it, alot of the games we play now might not even exist. Without Sega, We might not even have 3-D games. The first systems with true 3-D capabilities were the Saturn and PS1 and the PS1 technology was stolen from Nintendo! The Playstation was A CD add-on for Super Nintendo but when Sony was recruited, they stole the technology and the name. If Nintendo were to launch a lawsuit and the new home console code named revolution, you would be buying Nintendo PSP because Sony would be wiped out. As for the Dreamcast, it was a great system but because the phanboys failed to see that, it failed. As for the phanboys in question, if you cant even capitalize letters, your not worth my time. Stop putting bad reviews here and go play your PS2. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Featuring graphics that surpass even the amazing NFL 2K, Soul Calibur is the martial arts fighting game to end all fighting games and the game to get if you're a Dreamcast owner. Based on the arcade classic of the same name, Soul Calibur lets you choose to represent one of 10 fighters in a series of battles against your peers. If you can successfully defeat all of your opponents, you will then face the fiendish Inferno in a final showdown that will determine the fate of the world. Each of the game's warriors is armed with a different deadly weapon--sword, ax, stave, nunchaku, you name it--and an assortment of special moves all tailored to that specific weapon. The warriors include men, women, and creatures from all over the globe and from various mythologies. Each is brought to life with amazing motion-capture animation, which results in incredibly lifelike and realistic duels. If you own a Dreamcast or are thinking of buying one, do yourself a favor and add Soul Calibur to your collection. --Mike Ryan

Pros:

  • Exceptionally lifelike graphics and animation
  • Multiple game modes--1-player, 2-player, team, computer vs. computer, martial arts demo, and more
  • Secrets and extra features will keep players coming back

  • May be too violent for some parents

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
This is, without exception, the BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER MADE. PERIOD

Read the other reviews, everything positive said about this game is true.I know thats a bold statment but graphics, gameplay, story, modes, music, replayabilty is all EXCELLENT.

Don't listen to any Sony fanboys that are mad that Soul Calibur was a Dreamcast exclusive - It truly does live up to the "hype" (Its not really hype when its absolutely true, utterly amazing)

I hope you have the chance to enjoy the fighting game to end all fighting games.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Huge Dissapointment
For The Love Of God Don't Believe The Hype! This game had so many people kissing it's butt it wasn't funny. I got it and it was a huge let down. Soul Blade on psone was better then this! Sure it's all pretty, but it's basically just a virtua fighter clone with wepons and smaller backgrounds.alot of the charactors are basicly the same (Astoroth&Rock/Mina&Kilick/Lizardman&Sophitia/Inferno&Edgemaster) The backgrounds while pretty are basically just the old 2-D backdrops used on the first 3-D fighters. The "innovative" world tour mode had been done in SFA3 already so that wasn't a huge plus either. Dead or Alive 2 kicked this things butt as did the painfull to play VF3. If you have either of those forget about this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way ahead of its time
This is the definitive evolution in fighting games.I grew up on Street Fighter, then switched to Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, Powerstone, etc... but nothing has ever captured the essence of fun as much as the Soul Calibur series has done. This is the one fighting game that strangely does not turn off those who are not into fighting games. It is accessible enough to newcomers for them to just pick up and have fun with, yet at the same time, it holds the depth that will keep veteran gamers playing this for years as long as they have access to good human competition. The characters are not completely balanced, but that won't become noticeable until you actually play against really good people for a long while.Still, none of the characters are a waste and the variety of fighting styles are extremely well thought out and fun to watch.I especially like how they have an exhibition mode where you can just watch characters performed their motion captured katas by themselves in an empty ring. This game is simply beautiful in many ways.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes this is the greatest fighting game ever made...
I'm make this short and sweet. This is the greatest fighting game ever. And this is a DC exclusive and will forever be one of the best DC games ever.It has everything I love about fighting games.First off the visuals are just so juicy. Not as sharp as SC2 but still great visuals even for this time of the year. The game has some really great things added to this DC version such as a mission mode, it's like a story mode, what you do is buy art galleries to start new mission, trust me it'll keep you in for weeks especially since it's for EVERY CHARACTER!The game has some other neat things added to this game such as

Practicemode
Mission Mode
Survival Mode
ARCADE MODE, which you can unlock characters.

And some other neat things but I will tell you right now if you do have a Dreamcast don't keep it to dust and play GTA on your Ps2.You need this game for the Dreamcast. This is one of the reasons people got a Dreamcast....I got it as a gift from my aunt and took advantage of it by getting the games..And this gem was one of them.Listen..do your self a favor and get this game...heck even Gamespot gave this game 10 and it's extreamly hard getting a good score on this game..The visuals arn't as great as SC2 and that is pretty much the only thing wrong with it..Bottom line

Good
Superb Visuals on the DC
Great extras for the DC version
MISSION MODE ROCKS
Controlls are easy to get use to
Loads of play time and Arcade Mode is a blast

Bad..
Hmmm....Nothing

Ugly
Nothing...

GREATEST FIGHTING GAME EVER ONLY ON THE DREAMCAST!

I give it a 5 out of 5 stars!!

Lates

5-0 out of 5 stars Still fun after all these years
Soul Calibur is the classic version of the arcade game, and is only available on the Dreamcast. For many, it's the main reason to buy a Dreamcast!

You get a nice selection of characters, both male and female, young and old. If there's a complaint about the characters, it's that the females tend to have VERY skimpy outfits that mostly show off jiggly breasts and lots of underwear. The guys tend to have fully covered bodies. Something's not quite even here.

There are a number of modes, between simple arcade mode, one on one combat, training demos, and more. As you play through the game you earn points, which let you unlock more secrets. It encourages you to go through the game as each character, learning their best moves and techniques. Each character has his or her own favorite weapons and combat style.

As with all fighting games, you have to get used to the violence. The characters are bashing each other with some rather nasty moves - and it doesn't necessarily stop when one person is defeated. I've seen my character kicked to the ground, the game announce my defeat, and then the enemy throw in a final, gratuitous kick. It's very discouraging.

The different levels are fun, with their atmosphere and backgrounds. The music is on the generic side and doesn't go themed with the world you're in, as more modern fighters tend to do. Also it is sometimes fairly easy to simply knock your opponent out of the ring and be done with it.

Also, on the sounds angle, there are only a limited number of things that the announcer says. So if you play a given character through an 8 round series of fights, you are going to hear the same thing over and over again.

That all being said, this is a true classic of a game and many people have become quite fond of the sequels. So if you're into inexpensive fighters, or if you're a Soul Calibur fan who wants to see where it all began, this is a must have! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

To say that Shenmue is an anticipated title is an understatement;the game made huge waves in Japan upon its release, and American gamers havebeen waiting since then to see what the fuss is all about. It's a game in whichthe concept itself is the selling point. What if you could portray a young heroin a fully realized Japanese city? Would you like to participate in andinfluence an over-the-top kung fu-style action-mystery flick in your livingroom? What if lots of combat, cinematic flourish, detail, and a dash of romancewere thrown in?

The game itself is awash in small details, crammed into a confined space. Thecity of Yokusuka circa 1986 is rendered beautifully in a short series ofneighborhoods that are long on detail even if short on variety. The story itselfis ripped straight from a chopsocky flick: you portray the young hero RyoHazuki, whose father (a kung fu sensei, naturally) is killed before hisvery eyes by a mysterious and frightening villain. Ryo must uncover the identityof the killer and fight his way through the city in an effort to avenge thiswrongful death.

Shenmue's Yokusuka might be short on space--in total, it represents maybea square mile--but the detail is overwhelming. You can interact with nearlyevery person or object that you see; 300 citizens go about their daily routines, and whom you encounter is as much determined by where you are as when you arethere.

Much of this interaction involves combat that ranges fromDragon's Lair-style reaction tests (such as timing a button press tododge an oncoming car) to freeform kung fu fighting. Further, each second ofreal time equals about a minute of game time, and Ryo has to be home by 11 p.m.each evening. The game moves at a brisk pace, and each challenge or battle feelslike a race against time. Some might say that gaming doesn't get shallower thanthis (you are essentially performing tasks and exploring, instead of gaming),but the game feels like no other and is ultimately satisfying by the time thatit all ends. In this way, Shenmue is more than a game--it's an eventthat's worth experiencing. --Andrew S. Bub

Pros:

  • Compelling, well-told story
  • Good action and combat
  • Fantastic sound and graphics
Cons:
  • Plot is familiar to fans of kung fu action films
  • Task-and-exploration gameplay might seem slow to action gamers

4-0 out of 5 stars The realistic sphere of emotion and time
Shenmue is a graphic adventure game from 2000 exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast. The setting is Japan in 1986.You're placed in the role of Ryo Hazuki, an 18-year-old student and martial arts disciple on a winding, multi-faceted quest to uncover the mystery behind his father's murder.Along the way you'll traverse myriad locations and interact with countless non-player characters, as well as engage in side interests and attend to personal issues.

The progression of gameplay is quite open and arbitrary. There is no particular pace you have to keep in playing; you can sprint through the entirety of it, or you can devour days and days roaming around, engaging in the oddities, practicing martial arts, chatting with passersby, playing mini-games or whatever else. The hands on the clock tick away in real time in Ryo's world. The date and time of day--morning, afternoon and evening--is presented in convincing fashion by the game, and is reflected in the towns and villages and industrial areas you'll be visiting. The streets may be thronged with pedestrian traffic during mid-day, shoppers and businessmen, families and children. But after nightfall things change. After the streetlights flicker into life, the locales take on an aura of eerie stillness as the crowds thin and--in the urban and industrial areas--are replaced by members of the seedy nightlife, while in the residential districts they begin to bob their collective heads towards sleep. Many, although not all, businesses, shops and residences are open and interactive for you to explore. Time of day comes into effect here, for certain businesses and shops are only open during particular hours of the day or night. In addition to the realistic sphere of passing time, there are varying weather effects in place as well: sun, rain, and even snow as the calendar edges into the winter months.

Your home is the Hazuki Dojo in Yokosuka.Ryo's mother and father, his last living relatives, are now both gone. You live there with a former student of Ryo's father, Fuku-san, and the elderly housekeeper, Ine-san.Ine-san is a grandmotherly figure who'll fret and worry about Ryo's safety, imploring him to be careful and to let the past go.Yet she's soft spoken and demure, almost resolved to the situation. Each evening Ryo must be home by 11PM, and when he's late Ine-san seems almost hurt by it.It creates a true sense of obligation, of emotion, of connection to the characters and situation.Shenmue excels at creating a sense of strong emotional ties between the player and the characters, as evidenced by the potent flashbacks of Ryo with his father and the difficult parting with Nazomi at the end.You begin to feel the things Ryo feels, to truly take on the role of a lost, yet fiercely indomitable 18-year-old boy up against overwhelming odds to avenge the death of his father.

Every NPC is interactive and will converse with you. Many characters you meet near his hometown know Ryo by name, and some are his close friends--such as Nozomi Harasaki or the American Tom Johnson. There are actual curves of character development as the game progresses, relationships that alter in scope and nature, and a seemingly new, wary awareness of a wider, more iniquitous world by Ryo.Indeed, the villains Lan Di and unstable, tittering Chai impose heavy, bleak footprints on the narrative. Most people Ryo speaks to will have a few lines of dialogue about this or that--sometimes relevant and sometimes not, or now and then sending you off on splinter pursuits apart from your more crucial objectives--and a few will offer up clues to where you need to go next, what items you might need to acquire and to whom you need to talk.Every interaction can be important as you struggle to uncover clues. And with a continuous, moving timeline, it's all-too-possible to miss certain events as they occur when you're someplace else. While most of the gameplay involves the patient, explorative extrication of mystery upon mystery, there are also occasional action segments of martial arts brawling and QTE (quick time encounter) events calling for some speedy button pushes.

About midway through the proceedings Ryo is obligated to find employment to further fund his undertaking, and in this the game's principal setting and structure is somewhat altered.Ryo secures a job operating a forklift on the harbor docks. Here the game delves even further into the realms of realism, for every morning you must get up and report to work first thing--and then do the actual work for eight hours before recommencing with the more important tasks. And while this sometimes leads to a certain degree of monotony and tedium from the player's perspective, it does seem to work well overall within the scope of the game.

Outside the core body of gameplay are multiple minigames and collectible items that Ryo can pursue. The mingames are found mostly in the You Arcade in Dobuita, where full, authentic versions of the Sega arcade classics Hang On and Space Harrier are playable. There are also darts, billiards, slots and QTE games available. And a jukebox that plays real music. And cassette tapes of music you can buy in stores.Every sunrise before work at the harbor, Ryo can participate in a forklift race. And over 600 collectible items are available--everything from photographs to ancient Japanese mirrors to light bulbs to a package of squid legs--and they're located just about everywhere.

Visually, Shenmue is a tour de force, a world you just fall into like a pool of water and then don't want to get back out of. Stylistically and thematically, in both architecture and culture, it's a purely Japanese world. And the Japanese vibe really gets under your skin after a while. In a strange way, by the end of the game, you almost feel as if you've actually been in Japan, not just playing a game set there. It's a striking ambiance and environment they've created; time's suffocating grip has no hold here on the Dreamcast. The environments spring to life around you: trees and grass sway in the breeze, fish dart around a pond, a kitten meows by the roadside, ships dock at the harbor, pigeons startle into flight by your footsteps, people go blithely about their daily lives, the structures appear so lifelike you can almost reach out and touch them.Character animations are carved with a fine chisel; every line etched in the face a graphic relief, hair strands that divide and drift on the winds, eyes that bore holes of meaning and emotion into you.Even the detail present in Ryo's brown leather jacket is stunning. And all this on the Dreamcast, easily looking as good here as later, more advanced gaming consoles.

Shenmue breaches generations and cultures, a game people of vastly different ages and backgrounds can concurrently enjoy and become absorbed with.In the act of investigating, something is revealed, and that points you to the next stage--and from there to the next. You want to see what happens next; you care about Ryo's journey and the people around him you've come to know. The settings are pragmatic and the basic storyline is simple enough that a child can follow it, yet there is depth enough to draw anyone in.It's a universal theme, and a game that has remained wedged in the memory over the years.Regrettably, the ultimate resolution isn't found here; Ryo's tale winds on in Shenmue II on the Xbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yu Suzukies Masterpiece...
Shenmue for the Sega Dreamcast may possibly be the greatest video game experience I've ever had in my gaming days(including Shenmue II for xbox).Shenmue is about a young man out for revenge to find his fathers murderer but theres WAY more too it, I won't spoil anything other then this game is flat out beautiful and should be played by gamers that won't wyn about the slow paced action..

Like the title above, this is Yu Suzukies Masterpiece, the man worked EXTREAMLY hard on this amazing game(Shenmue is also known as one of the most expensive video games ever created).Sadly Yu Suzukies hard worked game never made any good sales because of the PS2's launch, I like many others got it at the time it was first released, This game is just pure brilliance. The visuals are some of the best seen in games...This may be the longest game review I've ever done so lets get to it..

Visuals
This is one of the if not THEEEE best looking DC game ever made, everything is so detailed and the character models are great. The building, the Atmoshpere, thank you so much Suzukie.

Gameplay
ok this is probably the reason this game is the most hated/loved game ever created.IT'S EXTREAMLY SLOW PACED, and may turn off some casual gamers but if you can hold on long enough the action will start to come up.The game play is simple and easy to get use to very quickly. The game plays like a mystery novel, ask people question and clues about something and when you find some clues you go ask other people that may know BUT THIS GAME PULLS IT OFF SO WELL IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY!This game(plus Shenmue II) has THE best fighting engine ever!!!It's taken straight out of the virtura Fighter games. And the Free Battle sequences are extreamly rare yet very fun in the game.Did I mention you can do almost everything in this game?Well not everything but alot of things like getting a job, gambling and alot of the other things that can be done in real life...

Sound/music
When I say this games music is beautiful IT IS, Ten times better then MGS 1.Especially the main theme which you'll notice alot, it's amazing if theres one thing Yu Suzki did well(other then everything els) it's the music in this game, pure brilliance

Controlls
I'm really lazy to get into this but there pretty good
Lemmi just some it up right now

The Good
-Superb Visuals
-Great Controls
-Superb sound
-Amazing Inviorments
-Loads of things to do
-AWESOME FIGHTING ENGINE
-One of the most expensive games ever made
-A beautiful story about vengence but with alot to it

The bad
-action gamers will be turned off by how slow paced this game go's
-For some long, for some a SHORT game, took me about 13 hours my first time but that's because I just did all the story parts and not the side quests
-The sales for this and Shenmue II did so bad that we probably won't see a Shenmue III anytime soon
-For anyone looking for a good challenge for this and Shenmue II, look elswere, it's pretty simple an pretty straight forward..

Other then that Shenmue is an instant classic with everything on the spot, Yu Suzukie created something more then a game....This game is not just good because it feels like you're acctually in that world and living Ryu'S life.....This is good because Yu Suzukie braught us something that just feels so real, and like as if there really is a world like that....acctually there is, JAPAN, duuhh, but still no other game has hit me or motivated to the point were I HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME more then shenmue....This game is hands down...One of the greatest video game experiences you'll ever have...... When it all comes down to this, I give Shenmue for the sega Dreamcast a

5 out of 5 stars...

Brilliant....Just...Brilliant

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally a great game a must have for dc fans.
This is a really sweet game. Totally a butt-kicking game. I mean you go around beating people up the game lets you see in real live play beating some one up you know without the pain and nose bleeding.

5-0 out of 5 stars TPittman
Ok, first of all im 12 years old, i bought this game, and played it from 3:00PM-2:00AM, three days in a row, and beat it! I only took about three breaks, and didn't go outside or even eat supper!!! I love this game so much, i beat it twice... total time of the game is about 27hours of game play! Man i wish i had an Xbox so i can play shenmue 2, shenmue 2 is also for the European dreamcast, which i dont have, but someday, i will get shenmue 2, and beat it...

This is a list of all the great things in the game...

1.Great storyline and detailed world...

2.Great minigames: Space Harrier(Quite weird, you look like a mother with a purse coming home from the store), Hang on(A motorcycle racing game), Darts(This ones probably my favorite), Exite QTE2(A game where a letter from the controller apears on the screen and you press it as fast as you can), Pool(not that fun and this is only located in the bar), and last but not least, QTE Title(Pretty much the same as Excite QTE2, but this is a boxing one). Most of the Minigames are located in the Dobuita(The city), at You arcade, and darts is also located at the harbor lounge...

3.You get a job at the harbor, and you take boxes with a Forklift to the warehouse your boss tells you to take it...

4.You can go in most of the buildings in the city Dobuita, and the harbor...

5.You can buy pretty much anything, food, Soda, buy a little toy out of the toy machine, and you can win prises, and win video games...

6.Vehicals are in this game, theres a motorcycle, and a forklift, and you can race on the forklift when you have a job...

7.Theres time, clocks, and it turns day and night, and it snows, and rains...

8. Buy tapes, and you can find a tape player in your room, so you can listen to really cheesy songs...

Heres a list of the bad things in the game...

1.The voice of the main character(Ryo Hazuki) sounds like he only put effort in the beginning, threw the rest of the game, he sounds he doesn't even care that his dad died...

2.The part where you have to save a girl(Nozomi Harasaki) on the motorcycle sucks big time, You only drive the motorcycle straight, i thought you would be able to drive it anywhere, and that part is hard too...

Thats everything, the only part of the game that sucks is them two, but buy the game, trust me, its the best RPG/Adventure game ever made on the planet, and the game not that bad, its rated Teen for Animated violence, Strong language, and Use of Tobacco and Alcohol, but dont let that stop you, just buy it already!!!

NOTE: You need a memory card!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The peak of gaming.
4 years ago, I saw tons of ads for Shenmue. I had never read anything about the game, or knew what it was about, as the ads simply said "SHENMUE" and its release date. I started to get hyped up about it, because they made it seem like this was the biggest game to come out since Super Mario Bros. 3. When it finally did come out, I managed to get it at Target for an incredibly sick low price. Upon taking it home and starting it up, I had a new standard for what makes a game good. I couldn't even believe this was a game when I saw Ryo Hazuki in action, running through an almost photo realistic Japan in the 1980's. It was beauty in motion. But this is more than a pretty game, much more.

What exactly is Shenmue? Is it an rpg, adventure, action, or fighter? It's really all of those. If you don't know by now, it was originally slated to be an rpg with Virtua Fighter characters, which sounds pretty cool. Later on though, everything was changed into something completely original. You play as Ryo Hazuki, a Japanese teenager who arrives home to see a black car parked near his home. Entering through the gates, he finds the housekeeper on the ground, probably beaten up. She tells him that his father's in the dojo and the men in the car are with him. Making his way to the dojo, an "adopted" family member gets thrown out and is unconscious. Finally, Ryo enters to see a Chinese man in a silk robe asking for a mirror. Ryo's dad, Iwao, doesn't tell them, and they begin to fight. Iwao is no match though, as Lan-Di dodges every move without effort and takes him out with a simple kick. Saying that he won't tell him again, Lan-Di threatens to kill Ryo. Iwao has no choice, and tells him that it's buried under the cherry tree outside. But it's too late, and Lan-Di tells Iwao to get up and die with honor. He kills him right in front of Ryo, and leaves with the mirror. The scene is very dramatic and the music addes even more to an already emotional scene. From that point on, it's up to Ryo to track down Lan-Di and avenge his father. Unfortunately for him though, it won't be easy. A lot of time will be spent asking questions around town to get more details on where to go next. This part of the game tends to bore some ignorant people, but it isn't as bad as they make it out. If you actually follow directions, things will be very simple. Sometimes, the people you try to get answers out of take offense, and immediately start a fight. Trust me, the fights in Shenmue are sweet and I was always pumped to get in one. The music, moves, and danger of it all renders all other fights in games obsolete. It took me a long time to get back to turn-based fights in rpgs after playing this.

As serious as it may sound, you can still have fun in Shenmue. Remember, this takes place in Japan in the 80's, so it's a very new world to many people. It's also as realistic as you can get. The designers took the actual weather reports and forecasts from that time period and put them into the game's actual calendar. If it was raining on a friday in December in real life, it's doing the same thing here in the game. If you don't want to wait around until a store opens to talk to the owner, buy some capsule toys of classic Sega characters (ranging from Sonic to NiGHTS to Sega executives), or go to the arcade and play classic games like Hang-On or Space Harrier. Time flies when playing those gems. You can also try out darts, a boxing simulator, and a QTE arcade machine to win capsule toys of said machines. QTEs are pretty cool. During a scene, sometimes a button or direction will flash on the screen, and you have to press it quickly in order to move on. An example is when some bikers attack (well, try to if you're good) Ryo at the harbor. If you manage to hit all the buttons correctly at the right time, Ryo will knock a biker off his motorcycle, causing him to fall into the sea. Even now, four years later, these excite me. Shenmue also has a vast variety of characters- Ryo's potential love interest: Nozomi the flower girl, Tom the hot dog vendor, Goro the street-wise punk with a heart of gold, Mark who supervises Ryo when he gets a job (oh yes, you get to work, and it's nothing but fun) driving forklifts, and many more characters. You can also practice your fighting moves in the dojo or even a parking lot. And you'll want to if you don't want to get beaten up in the many fights. Go out and buy some new move scrolls at the antique shop, or look around the Hazuki house. There's just so much to do here, that I could bore you even more with a second review just to go through it all. And by the time you're even 2 hours into the game, you will actually feel like you -are- Ryo Hazuki. The character attention is worthy of 5 stars in its own.

For the time it was released, nothing could compare to Shenmue. Character models all have nothing but the best detail. Wrinkles in their skin, articles of clothing where you can see each individual stitch, and actual facial expressions. Not just heads that had moving mouths, but real expressions. You can see the anger and determination in Ryo's eyes when confronting members of gangs in the area, shock when Tom demonstrates a new move later on, and grace in the final scene. But the developers didn't just stop with the main characters like so many others do, each individual character has their own unique look to distinguish them from anyone else. Just look at some of the workers at the harbor, or the resturant workers who look the part. On the Shenmue passport disc, there are almost FMV quality graphics in some of the characters that talk to you about the Shenmue world and explain various things. They're so close to being of Final Fantasy X FMV quality. Even today after the likes of the Xbox and GC have set the bar, those graphics look great. If there's anything to degrade in the graphics at all, it's that there's slowdown when walking through crowded streets. It never bothered me, but it does get to some people. Fortunately, this doesn't occur during the incredible fights. The 70 man battle in particular.

There's nothing bad to say about the music. The game's theme will automatically be stuck in your head once you hear it for the first time. And when the Chinese fiddle version is heard, it makes the theme even more memorable. It's epic, plain and simple. The theme is heard a lot throughout the game, but used differently and with variations. There's even a christmas version once December rolls around. Through the game, you can also buy cassette tapes if you want to hear something different. My favorite would probably be Hang-On, which can be won at the Tomato store as a prize. And the music that kicks in during fights, nothing short of dynamic. It's a shame it wasn't carried over to the sequel. That theme alone was worth playing for. And like the graphics, there's one tiny thing I didn't like- some of the voice acting. A lot of the voices are pretty good, but some of the extras just didn't try. If you have the chance, import the Japanese version to get the better voices.

Shenmue remains my favorite game even after the Panzer Dragoon Ortas and Blinxes and even Bust-A-Moves that I've played recently. Please buy this game and show support so the saga can continue. Right now the series is kind of in a rut, and its future isn't looking too good. As long as its finished in some way (even if the official comic manages to get more attention), I'll be happy. Shenmue isn't for everyone, but for those that pick it up and can appreciate it, they'll be hooked. Thank you for making this experience Mr. Suzuki. Here's hoping to more in the future *raises glass of cranberry apple raspberry juice*. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

CrazyTaxi was an arcade game turned Dreamcast showcase that reallyhelped sell the system. Now that the Dreamcast is on its last legs,Sega throws crazed drivers everywhere a bone by moving the sequel tothe system. Crazy Taxi 2 is the same as Crazy Taxi, onlycrazier!

First off, Sega moved the scenery from hilly San Francisco to thenarrow urban canyons of New York City--which is a bad thing if thehills in the first game were an attraction. But this one has CentralPark, and that's a thrill unto itself. Also, Crazy Taxi 2 letsyou pick up multiple passengers (on occasion), which is the best way tokeep that timer up and score bigger points.

Once again you've got aggravating and conspicuous advertising in thegame--from Burger King and KFC to clothing stores and other real-worlddestinations. Masters of Mayhem andOffspring supplythe music. The Offspring song is a new one--at least we're pretty sureit is--but like all Offspring songs it sounds like the one from thelast game.

Additionally, there are new Crazy Stunts you can perform. Crazy Golfentails a run at a massive ball, with a goal of smacking it a good 100yards. Crazy Balloon 2 challenges you to pop all the balloons in ashort span of time. Plus there are three more minigames you can play. You can play arcade style with a set time limit, or on a big or smallNYC map.

The controls are tight and easily as good as last time, but someplayers may still have trouble performing some of the more difficulttricks. Also, this game is extremely similar to the first one. Anyonebored with Crazy Taxi isn't going to find Crazy Taxi 2 abreath of fresh air. But the game is still really fun for players ofall ages. It's crazy, wild, and a completely realistic simulation of areal NYC cab ride. --Andrew S. Bub

Pros:

  • NY, NY is a heck of town
  • Same tried-and-true gameplay as the original
  • Lots of new minigames, drivers, and maps
Cons:
  • No hills
  • Same tried-and-true gameplay as the original

3-0 out of 5 stars Honestly I thought the 1st was better but still average..
Crazy Taxi 2 is the sequal to the Sega hit Crazy Taxi. Now I usually make bigger reviews to be honest I'll just make this my

SHORT and Sweet Review..

Now The 1st Crazy Taxi was DC game but lost its exclusitivity(yeah that sounds dumb but It just came up my head) and can be found on
Xbox
Gamecube and Ps2.Though the best version is the Dreamcast you can probably spend it on the Ps2 version or the other systems since DC games seem to be a pain to find now.

The graphics are solid and the gameplay loses its touch later on...OK MAYBE JUST FOR ME MAN!I didn't think the game was that great but like I said before...

Graphics good...gameplay...ehhh gets old. This is must for any Die Hard Dreamcast owner but For people who want more then just another sequal with "some" stuff stay clear away from this...I'm not saying the game is bad!I just think the 1st it better...

I really enjoyed the game over all and though it was an A-O-K Dreamcast Game..

I give CrAzY Taxi for the Sega Dreamcast a...

3.0 out5 stars.....

*NOTE*

Other then Crazy Taxi the Sega Dreamcast(R.I.P) has some really awesome amazing games... Some for example Sonic Adventure, Marval Vs Capcom2(and yes the DC version is the best mainly cause it was the original version and it was DC exclusive at one point)

And yeah.....well..

Lates..

4-0 out of 5 stars Addictive Fun
The reason that "Crazy Taxi 2" doesn't get a prefect 5-star rating is that it's only one player, which destroys the possibility of what potentially would be the most enjoyable way to play the game, sitting beside a friend frantically competing to pick up the most customers and money, last the longest without running out of time, etc.
That said, Crazy Taxi 2 functions surprisingly well as a party game. Something about the bright visuals, loud sound effects, and raucus music, along with the fast pace of the action -- there is always a new task to complete -- make it almost as much fun to watch someone play the game as it is to play oneself. I've often found myself cheering along with a friend's efforts. (Or jeering, depending on my mood)
As for playing solo, make sure you clear your schedule. While an individual game might only take five minutes, one can easily sink hours into trying to earn more money, a better license, etc... the very fact that "one more game" takes such a short amount of time contributes to the addiction.
In short, if you can pick this game up at a gamestop or on Ebay, I highly reccomend it as one of the better Dreamcast titles.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while but a game with NO depth is destined to fail
Crazy Taxi 2 is fun for a while but when you either beat the pyramid or become upset because its too hard to beat then the game will slowly make its way to the bottom of your collection.

It has great graphics and tight control but the music is a letdown and my aren't those cab drivers crude. The game is a welcome addition to any Dreamcast library even if it will eventually get old.

1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy this game.
this game is the worst game of all time. it has horrible graphics horrible camera angles and bores the crap out of you quickly. everything looks so basic and dull the game is no fun at all. the cars dont move in the direction you want them to. i like trying out games a lot. but im sorry i ever checked out this garbage. for a fun time check out any grend theft auto or the most recent nascar game. this game is really bad and should definitely go down without notice. im so glad i only rented this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars another great game by sega
This is one of my favorite games, i cant understand
why sega fall with games like this.
Its original, funny, its a challenge beat this game,
awesome graphics, the control its easy well i can
say a lot of more good things about him.
Once you started you cant stop playing this game,
the crazy pyramid oh you gonna have problems with
the last 2 misions, and of course...
Buy it!
And learn from SEGA, nintendo. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Seaman is quite possibly the weirdest video game to everbe released. It's also one of the most incredibly original titles in avery long time. And if you don't believe me, just ask the frisky Seaman,a fish/reptile with a human face--it isn't shy.

According to legend, this strange creature is the discovery of scientistJean Paul Gasse. The weird-looking beast was documented to have analmost grotesque look about it, as it had the body of a reptile and theface of a man. Yet it was able to talk and reason with the doctor aswell as your average human. And while the good doctor was laughed intoobscurity after trying to explain his discovery, you have theopportunity to raise a Seaman from egg to its fishlike state and beyond.

Not only must you keep Seaman well fed and warm, you'll find thatconversation (via the included microphone) with Seaman is a must. Thescaly inquisitor will probe into your personal life by asking about yourage, marital status, and favorite music, among other things. Also, iftreated well this creature will spew its (usually sarcastic) rantings onpop culture, the Internet, and even reality itself. There's even a touchof sexual innuendo that may raise a few eyebrows. I doubt your goldfishever did that.

The speech recognition is far from perfect, but there's no doubt thatthe gimmick almost always causes a smile when you realize how longyou've been conversing with a fish and just how many words it doesrespond to. The simplistic graphics often make Seaman look like he'sswimming in space rather than in a huge tank, but this game makes noclaim to break new ground in graphics--it's the speech recognition thatis most noteworthy. Star Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy acts asnarrator, bringing all of the emotion of Spock (read: none) to hisperformance--yet somehow it works.

Since the Seaman can starve or freeze if not tended to regularly(raising this thing will take weeks), it might be a good idea to investin another Visual Memory Unit to store the status of Seaman's habitatand your performance.

It's hard to say just how much "game" is actually in this title. Rather,Seaman offers an interesting life journey through birth, growth, death, rebirth, and change. Seaman offers a unique Dreamcastexperience that is both disturbing and fascinating. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • A very ugly fish that talks--how cool is that?
  • Seaman can recognize quite a surprising number of words with theincluded microphone, and he talks back
  • Easy to play
  • Sarcastic wit (read: very American) and humor can be good for a fewlaughs
Cons:
  • Speech recognition is inconsistent (often words are completelymisunderstood)
  • Graphics are suitably simplistic but never really deliver thefeeling that Seaman is swimming in water
  • Probably doesn't taste good with chips

5-0 out of 5 stars I love you Seaman
Like others here have already said- this game isn't for everyone. In fact, it's only for a select few gamers- the kind that are looking for new and strange things. It's cool that Sega never cares about money, and is always the one company we can count on for innovation. It's just too bad that they never get the credit they deserve. Sega's always been ahead of their time, as we saw with the Dreamcast.

Anyway, I love this "game". When I first got it when it came out, I wasn't really sure what to expect. You actually do take on the role of a scientist, creating life before your very eyes. You start out with an empty tank, and an egg + some food pellets in your inventory. Place the egg in the tank, and set the heat to 19.9 (under 20 at least), and the oxygen all the way up. After a few minutes, the egg hatches, and you get mushroomers. Soon after, the natilus starts moving, and eats your mushroomers. Make sure that it leaves at least one alive. Try tapping on the glass away from the natilus to draw the mushroomer(s) closer to you. After a few minutes, the natilus comes out of its shell and dies. Now, you have Seamen.

Yeah, I bet that sounds boring to you. For the first 2-3 days, you teach Seaman small words (like "hello", "afternoon", "seaman", etc.), but the baby Seamen start killing eachother, and you're left with two. As they grow up, their voices become very deep and cool. Seaman is quite the scholar. He'll ask you questions about your life and what you like whenever you talk to him. Of course, you can only put in 15 hours of gameplay a day, and you'll be doing just fine...as your talk sessions don't last that long. They're more of a Q&A. But that's ok, I enjoyed the responses Seaman gave me. When I told him my birthday, he told me that I share it with Elizabeth Hurley and a few other cool celebrities. Thanks Seaman!

The voice recognition isn't as bad as people say. As long as you speak clearly and not too fast, Seaman should be able to understand most of the things you say to him. Please give Seaman a chance, he's a good guy. And you'll be sad to let him go in the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars seaman is great!
this game is really fun. it's kinda like a sim mixed with a giga pet. you feed it , raise it, take care of it, and of course, talk to it. yes, some of the time the words are missunderstood, but if you talk loud and clearly enough, it's just fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Great the First Few Times......... (3.5 stars)
....but after you've beat it and played it a couple times, it gets really old very quickly. But, this game is %100 original!A very unique and cool concept.I just think more could've been done to keep the replay value up a bit.

The graphics:Amazing
The sound:Very good
Concept:Out of this world!
Replay Value: Gets boring after you play it enough

So the only reason why I'm giving this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is because, let's face it, it can get old very quickly.Plus, you have to have A LOT of free time to keep him alive!!!I used to have that time in high school, but now starting my second semester at college, well.....time isn't as free any more.

It's a game that should be checked out, though.Just be warned, you might get bored with it real quick.I thought it was the greatest game at first, but then it seemed like nothing new happens.Once you beat it, that's it.Replay value is the only major flaw with the game.

Amazon.com Review

When we first popped in Sega GT, we were a bit skeptical. Itdoesn't just resemble the layout of Gran Turismo for the PlayStation;it's almost identical to it, from earning licenses to having your own garage andstocking it with brand-name cars. But the more we played, the more we fell inlove with Sega GT's silky graphics that speed along with only theslightest blurring at night. The scenery is so distracting that most playerswill have to remember to keep their eyes on the road.

Usually, racing games can get pretty tiring, but Sega GT will hold mostplayers, mainly because there are so many licenses you can earn from the automanufacturers in the game, including Mazda, Suzuki, and other mostly Japaneseauto makers. One of the coolest features here allows you to create a car fromscratch and then see how it stacks up on the track--chances are your firstdesign won't do well.

A little more reflection and other effects would have better integrated the carswith their surroundings, and some star-studded songs sure would have been preferable to the game's generic soundtrack. --Robb GuidoPros:

  • Much more absorbing than the average racing game
  • Slick graphics will make players drool
Cons:
  • Generic soundtrack

4-0 out of 5 stars Sega GT - RACE
Wow, this game is good! I just bought it at my local EB for 8 bucks. I brought it home and played it with my friend, and weplayed it. The cars steered out of control, and they seemed to have a magnetic attraction to the wall!

Eventually, I got used to it and mastered the game. The scenery is the best I've seen. I constantly find myself staring at themassive buildings, rocky canyons, instead of the road. Very great visuals, very slick.

The prize of this game is Championship mode. It is amazing. You can buy lots of licensed cars, tune them to perfection, then race them. The idea to get licenses in order to unlock new circuits can be good, but when you just underqualify by .20 seconds, boy it's frustrating. The single race mode is very nice, and adds to the replayability. A very cool part is the "carrozerria" (like a pizzeria), where you can build your own car. But you have to have licenses to do that by racing, blah blah, and you have no more than 3 customizations to build your own car.

The CPU doesn't offer that much of a challenge. For example, I was in a Cappucino in an Open race. The Cappucino had only 64 HP and around 600 CC. I raced a Ford Mustang, which has around 400 HP and 5000 HP, and he won by about 10 seconds. And another time I raced someone with the same exact car and I beat them by 5 seconds. Stick to Time Attack for a fun challenge.

All in all, a decent racing game. One of the best I've played since Gran Turismo 3. If you have a tight wallet and you want a good racing game that'll keep you occupied for 10-20 hours, pick this one up.

4-0 out of 5 stars GARBAGE!
I bought Sega GT and got it all scrached up from invideo2002. I wish I can tell you how fun that game is, but I can't because of invideo2002 that gave me a full scrached CD. I'll just say how fun it is by looking on the screenshots.

1-0 out of 5 stars mad as ...
i purchased this game twice.the first time the game wouldn't play.the second time i purchased it on december 17th and it hasn't even got here and it's january 3rd.i will never order anything from this site again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but no Gran Turismo
My original modern gaming console was a PlayStation, and one of the first games I bought for it was the original Gran Turismo. It was extremely popular, spawning Gran Turismo 2 and (on PlayStation2) Gran Turismo 3 - each far better than the previous game in the series.

Sega GT seems to be the DreamCast response to the ever-popular Gran Turismo series. For a first attempt at this type of ''driving simulation,'' this is an admirable effort... but there is still a long way to go.

On the very positive side, the license tests in Sega GT are VERY generous toward the player; whereas the Gran Turismo series sets very high standards, including keeping at least one wheel on the racing surface at all times and not permitting any contact with walls or barriers or other obstacles, the only requirement in the Sega GT license tests is that the player complete a lap at a given course or segment in the time posted. Another great point of Sega GT is the variety of courses available, from two drag strips to a high-speed course reminiscent of the Pennsylvania Turnpike through the tunnels of the Allegheny Mountains to a wintry course to several desert-based courses between tall rock cliffs. The ability for players to create their own cars (which requires A LOT of money) is a novel addition to a ''driving simulation,'' and there are specific licenses and races for which these Original Cars can only compete. Finally, the use of sponsors is great; for each race/series win, each sponsor pays a given amount of money, which can thus turn low-paying races into nice cash machines if a player can accumulate a lot of sponsors.

On the down side, Sega GT has some nice cars. but there are relatively few of them, especially compared to Gran Turismo 2. The navigation of the Car Shop to buy the cars (new and used cars are available) is a bit awkward. While there are a lot of tuning parts which can be purchased, there is little effect gained or lost in making adjustments. Finally, car control in general is awkward at best, especially with high-horsepower vehicles; many high-horsepower cars are simply impossible to drive at competitive speeds.

For those with young children, Sega GT will be good for the kids as well as the parents - especially since there are numerous pre-owned DreamCasts and associated games available (at least in the States) for fairly low prices. However, those looking for a true ''driving simulation'' would be much better served by acquiring Gran Turismo 2 (for PlayStation/PSOne) and/or Gran Turismo 3 (for PlayStation2).

5-0 out of 5 stars 130 great cars and more.
The best thing about this mostly arcade racing game is that I get to drive at night through the New York Streets. But there are 130 incredible cars to choose from including the Nissan Skyline. There are different classes of cars to choose from. There are Suzukis, Toyotas, Hondas, Fords, and many more and 13 courses, all reversable. You can also earn a chance of a garage if you pass a very hard driving test. This is a part simulation and part arcade game; you have to be experienced in both. Plus, your either the winner or loser, as the screen says it. The graphics are awesome, especially those of the obstacle. And it's also good on PC. So get yourself an active partner and start the race of your life! ... Read more

Editorial Review

The first golf title for the Dreamcast, Tee Off is in the vein ofarcade-style golf games like the Hot Shots Golf series on thePlayStation. Players control big-headed, Japanese animation-style characters onvibrantly-colored 3-D courses. Shots are viewed from multiple cameraangles--including some mesmerizing aerial views--with the ball leaving a fading trailbehind it.

While Tee Off does require some basic golf knowledge, it uses astandardized control scheme which even those who've never played video golf willbe able to pick up on right away. In addition to customizable difficulty levels,Tee Off offers various modes of play, including gate ball (think croquetin cyberspace) and world tour, which rewards players' high scores by "unlocking"new characters and equipment.

Admittedly, Tee Off isn't for devotees of more simulation-oriented golftitles, as they'll probably pass it off as kiddie fare. However, casual videogolfers and those new to the armchair sport are in for one heck of a good timeon the links. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Highly addictive arcade-style gameplay
  • Great replay value
  • Gate ball (cybercroquet) mode
Cons:
  • Japanese to English language translation is weak at times
  • May not appeal to fans of more simulation-oriented golf titles

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
If they had real characters, I would actually rate this a 5. The courses are extremely lifelike. There should have been some unlockable courses and some easier to lock players. I hate missing the red bar on the bottom, cause once you miss it, you lose a whole stroke. But playing it is all right. Though it's not the best golf game in the world, it deserves a look at.

3-0 out of 5 stars It could be a bit more realistic!!
.... The 4 characters say the same phrases over and over and I never felt like using up my memory card to save the world tour and unlock other characters. It's not like I was gonna win, anyway. I must admit, though, the 5 courses are pretty good. Japan is easy. U.S.A. gets me in the bunker alot. Scotland has alot of precipitation variations. M y ball always goes into the red clay in Australia. And Africa has a large variety of fairways and obstacles. Gate ball isn't that great because the gates are always in the same exact spots. Other than the graphics and the 5 courses, this game could use some improvement.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the serious golf fan
Tee Off is a fun game but diehard fans may find it disapointing. The game is based around fun and is easy to play and to get into. There are various different modes of play which improve the longitivity of the game, so you and your friends can battle it out to see who is the best. There is also an option to unlock new characters and new equipment though getting high scores.

I love golf games.Golden Tee 99 and 2000 are the greatest golf games out today.I think Tee-off may be the worst. If you are over the age of 10and like to play golf, don't buy this game.If you are prone to dreamingabout playing your dreamcast and can't wait to get home to play them, don'tbuy this game! The people at Dreamcast should have have sent this gameout to pasture when the original version was delivered.Do yourself afavor, buy a football or hockey game for now, and wait until Dreamcast putsout a real golf game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's hit the greens!
This game is the best golf game that I have played on any platform. Some of the computer players are a little weak, but it makes it that muchbetter.

I have played this game for hours on end.The graphics are verywell done.I wish there was a better selection of players with betterskills, but that's life.Perhaps there will be a Tee-Off 2 orsomething..

I can recall many a night staying up and playing this withfriends to the wee hours of the morning.

If you are an armchair golfer, this title is for you! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The release of NCAA College Football 2K2, based on the NFL2K1 game engine, should appease many of the long-suffering Dreamcast ownerswho look upon the NFL with disdain and pined for a good college-ball simulation. The game offers good playability, tight controls, generally good approximationsof college stadiums, and excellent graphics. There are a few flaws, however, most of them relating to the most anticipated aspect of the game--thecollege-specific features.

The passing game is sharp, as the developer minimized the number of "moneyplays" without taking away every option available to the offensive player. Thereare few plays you can run for instant yardage, making it more important to cyclethrough your many options on passing plays. And the defense will play effectivebump-and-run coverage on your receivers, throwing off your timing on some ofthose otherwise dependable out patterns. The running game is also solid, although occasionally a bit generous to the offense on up-the-middle runs. Thegame has more than 700 plays from actual team playbooks, and gives players theoption of designing their own.

Graphics are smooth and often spectacular. Watching your receiver make a leapingcatch over the middle with the safeties in pursuit is both as exciting and scaryas it should be. The graphics on the sidelines and in the stands are sacrificedin favor of better resolution and animations on the field. One thing is neverquite explained, though: why do so many skill-position players have beerbellies?

The title offers several game modes, including a tutorial mode, network play(with some lag time--the game doesn't support broadband adapters), and season, scrimmage, tourney, and legacy modes. Legacy is somewhat of a disappointment, asrecruiting players (one of the cornerstones of college ball) amounts to lookingat nondescript player ratings and choosing several athletes for visits. Even afew minor tweaks would have made recruiting more enjoyable, such as includingnames, pictures, quotes, stats... anything, really. But legacy mode does allowyou to choose redshirts, cut poor performers, and allocate skill points toplayers in spring ball.

The collegiate atmosphere, while definitely welcome in the game, is sadly thebiggest disappointment to die-hard college fans. Many college fight songs areincluded, but not all of them, which will aggravate fans whose rival teams haveto listen to Michigan's "The Victors" after every score. In addition, SegaSports wasn't able to secure a deal with the Bowl Championship Series, so no BCSbowls are included in the game (with the exception of the Rose Bowl, which hasalways marched to its own beat).

NCAA College Football 2K2 is still a good college football game, however, and that's great news for people who prefer college ball over pro ball. If youjust plain like football and don't care what level it's played, stick to the NFL2K series (especially if you already own NFL 2K1 or 2K2). Ifyou're a college football fanatic for whom every small detail has to be perfect, stick to watching it on TV. But if you just plain like college football and wantto play a good football video game with your favorite teams, NCAA CollegeFootball 2K2 fits the bill very well. --Rivers Janssen

Pros:

  • Great passing and running engines
  • Defensive AI makes you work for your yards, but lets you take advantage ofmistakes
  • Graphics and gameplay are especially good for the first game in a series
Cons:
  • Doesn't include all the little things that make college football fun
  • Legacy mode, particularly recruiting, is disappointing
  • If we hear the announcers make their Brittany Spoons joke just one moretime...

4-0 out of 5 stars An awesome college game for the Dreamcast sports nut.....
This is an awesome game folks.I have always, ALWAYS wanted a college football game for my video game systems.First it was NSES, then I got DC.

Gameplay is great.Passing is NOT a piece of cake like the NFL 2K, 2K1, 2K2 that DC makes, which is a plus. This is college, so you can expect 45-40 games a lot (especially if you are K-State against Rutgers!).The difficulty levels are really good too.I have had this game for a month now and I am still struggling on the middle level. It is also realistic in that the stronger teams in NCAA football like K-State, Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, Florida/Florida State are much better than say Rutgers, Kent State, Northern Illinois, etc.Their rosters are all better in skill and agility.

Yes, there are no names on the jerseys (that's why the review is 4/5), but hey...I figure that since the seniors are going to graduate on each team and you have to recruit new players, names is just too much. You don't NEED them.Would have been nice, but oh well.

Buy this game if it is under $20.00.Over that, it isn't worth that much. But then again, Dreamcast isn't worth much these days. For Dreamcast games, THIS IS A GOOD BUY!

4-0 out of 5 stars The only college ball on Dreamcast
College football fans who owned a Dreamcast had to wait until the last days of the system's life for a college football game, and the results are mixed at best.Visual Concepts, developers behind the NFL 2K series and the excellent NHL 2K2, put NCAA 2K2 together and did a fantastic job visually, but all the excitement of the college ball atmosphere is missing.Graphically speaking these are some of the best graphics to ever grace the DC; the players move and react just like they're real life counterparts (except most players seem to have beer guts), and control wise the game is flawless. The announcers however seem a little behind the play, not to mention they can get rather repetitive as well. But what should have been the meat and bones of NCAA 2K2 is missing: no BCS bowls (except for the Rose Bowl), only a few school specific fight songs, and the legacy mode is disappointing. However, if you just want to get out of the NFL arena for a while and you own a Dreamcast, you can't go wrong with NCAA 2K2, but if you need your video game college ball exact from the get go, stick with EA Sports NCAA series.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good graphics but lacks longevity
This is a great game at the beginning with some killer graphics, but it lacks the gameplay in legacy mode that nfl 2k2 has, like trades and the NFL Draft. The recruiting mode totally sucks it's impossible to get good players. So if you have a lot of games and you just want to play this one every now and then with some multiplayer action then this game's for you.But if not you will probably lose interest soon as i have after 2 weeks.

4-0 out of 5 stars a few big flaws, but overall a great game
This was the Dreamcast game that everyone couldn't wait to come out, including me. I just couldn't wait till Christmas when I finally got it. The first college football game for Dreamcast. The first thing that caught my eye was the amazing graphics. The grass/turf on the field looks so realistic, the players are a big improvement upon the NFL 2K1 graphics and the teams jersey's and helmets look much like the real ones in college. Also all 117 college football teams are included and the announcers provide great play-by-play except for some very corny jokes and comments. The gameplay is very good most of the time anyway. Soemtimes the game will slow down then the play will go 10 tiems as fast as it should. The game levels are whack. On walk on you can ebat teams 100+ to 0 while on Starter I normally win by a good 25+ points while on All American you normally lose by 1-20. The worst thing is the bad teams are good against good teams and the Legacy mode is [...]. I played a game earleir today, Florida State vs. Troy State. Florida State won 23-3, but Florida State's QB throws only 21-44 for 357 yards, 1 TD and.....5 Inetrceptions! IN the legacy mode the recruiting is terrible, you get a list of players and literally do a draft. ALso on create a player the players name won't show up during the season or in stats. Despite these flaws the game is great. Amazing graphics, nice announcing, great gameplay and a very good list of Bowls to be in and the Heisman Trophy are all in this game. Also the game is very cheap and if you like college football get this game. ... Read more

World Series Baseball 2K1 nearly ruined one of the most cherishedfranchises in sports gaming with its poor gameplay. For the 2K2 edition, Segaturned to Visual Concepts--the developers behind its excellent football, baseball, and hockey titles. The developers only had 10 months to work on thetitle, and while it's the best baseball game on the Dreamcast to date, it playslike a game that needs more work.

Thankfully, fielding is back in the game (fielding was automatic in 2K1).Unfortunately, the controls can be very tricky. Ground balls hit within areasonable range of the player often pass him. The only alternative is diving, which leads to spectacular shots of players diving over and past baseballs. Thebatting and pitching controls are simpler than in last year's version, but couldhave used more polishing. Hitting is way too arduous (in the video gamesense)--even after dozens of game hours, tracking pitches is far more difficult than inother games. Positives include sharp graphics and a plenitude of modes, such asexhibition, season, playoffs, home run derby, franchise, and online. This iscurrently the only baseball game on a console that supports Internet play, albeit with some lag and bug issues.

Problems aside, this is as good as baseball gets on this platform. If theDreamcast is your only system and you're itching for a baseball game, then don'thesitate to pick this one up. Gamers with other consoles should consider EASports's and Acclaim's baseball titles. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • The best baseball game on the Dreamcast
  • Excellent graphics
  • Internet play
Cons:
  • Gameplay could have used a few more months of tweaking
  • AI is easily fooled
  • Internet play can be buggy

3-0 out of 5 stars Upgrade from 2K1, but still some work to do...
If you haven't looked at 2K1 yet let me save you some time, DON'T!!!We all know it stinks and all we Dreamcast gamers feel at least a little ashamed for SEGA.If you have looked at WSB2K1
here are the updates in this version.

PROS:

(1) Fielding!2K1 was almost massacred with ratings saying that "automatic fielding was so boring".I admit I was one of them.Well, here it is.This was sort of a problem for me as it sometimes a pro and con at the same time. One minute your player makes a stupid dive right over the ball, the next a diving catch or snag of a line drive 10 feet in the air. HOWEVER, this manual fielding isn't so bad as everybody says, although sometimes I wish that automatic fielding was an option.
(2) Graphics!WOW!If you gamers thought that 2K1 had some sweet microchips for graphics take a look at these.I'm talking about the view of stadiums here.I'll get to players' graphics a bit later...
(3) "Oh, the selection of modes..."!This pretty much sums up this section. You can choose from Quick Start, Season, Playoffs, and Franchise gameplay modes. There are also, of course, Options where you CAN create a player.
(4) STATS!If you play sports for none other than stats, get it on the spot.I love getting stats, and they show it all...(pitchers) ERA, I.P., Saves, W/L, and CG.(for batters) BA, HRs, Hits, RBIs, SLG%, SB, and Runs scored.Let me tell you, Mr. Ichiro Suzuki can sure rack up the stats in this game!

CONS

(don't be scared because I didn't put up enough pros up there!)
(1) Graphics...I told you I'd be back for player graphics! The players don't look anything like the real thing.Although you rarely get close enough, unless in replay, to see their faces, Ichiro Suzuki looks more like Ronald McDonald! And Cal Ripken Jr. (which is retired now, of course, but the game doesn't know that: another con!)
(2) Gameplay Realism...Have you ever seen Ichiro Suzuki throw a that little white ball before??I'm sure you've seen his April 8th, 2001 throw to David Bell to nail Terence Long of Oakland at third base??In this game Ichiro's throws are almost as good as mine!(No offense, Mr. Sultan of Swat!!)They just go up, up, up, etc., and then drop down perfectly to the base they are throwing to.Only 3 times (out of some 100 bil. throws) have I seen him throw a lazer beam, but only when he is standing perfectly still for about 2 seconds flat.
(3) Create Mode...Now, of course, like most of you gamers, I like being fair to the CPU and try to make a well balanced team and it seems when SEGA made this they wanted that, too.COME ON!
The trading won't let you trade for anyone else unless they have exactly the same ratin or you getting ripped off.You also can't trade more that I player at a time.If you want to get some superstar (I tried to trade for Scott Rolen to bring him to the Cardinals) you have to create a player literally a clone of a body-builder with 100% rating to get someone of that value!!Try trading for Ichiro now..!!!I also need to say that this clone will put a log-jam in the statistics with .400+ avg., 60+ HRs, 150+ RBIs, 100+ SBs, etc.!!Like I said if you are a statistics person like me, you have to hate that.
(4) Celebration...We all want to make our favorite team suped up for the postseason to go all the way, of course!Unlike you NBA, NHL, and NFL 2K, 2K1, 2K2 you will find a mean suprise at the end of the World Series. (assuming you got the guts to go all the way to the big dance!)NO CELEBRATION, TROPHY PRESENTATION, ANYTHING!!!!!The least WSB2K1 had was a little sendtence in the season mode say "Congratulations, you are the WORLD CHAMPS!".In this game, they all just trot off the field (even after a Game 7, walk-off grand slam by Cliff Floyd of Boston: of which I was getting hoarse from yelling) as if this was a preseason game, which they would celebrate anyway! Also, as the review below me states, when you hit a walk-off HR, the player does not get credit for it.Only for the RBIs and Runs. Also, what happened to MVP, Gold Glove, and Rookie of the year awards?!?!?!?!?

I could add more, but the reviews below me will probably fill the rest of you questions (and time) with useful answers.I hope this helps you, a fellow consumer, to be thrifty about spending money on video games....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Baseball Game Out There
This has got to be the best baseball game on the market. The learning curve is not to steep and you will be hitting the ball with ease in no time.Base running, throwing and fielding are all excellent.
I just got through playing a complete season which took about 3 months playing it pretty regulary and made it to The World Series and won....the cpu is smart and depending on what skill level you have the game set on the cpu is a tough opponent.

Pitching in this game RULES!Curveballs,Sinkers,sliders,fastballs,Change-ups,forkballs and splitters. They're all here!

The players are so realistic it's like you are controlling real life players. Each player has their own unique body type, batting stance and swing.

Mark Mcguire looks and acts JUST like Mark Mcguire. All of the players are true to life.

If you own a Dreamcast or are thinking of buying one this game is a must in your Sports Collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best, not the worst.
I had high hopes for this version of World Series Baseball after the disaster that was WSB2K1.This game is definitely a solid improvement, but it wasn't the grand slam that I was expecting.

PROS:

1. The stadia and fields are very realistic.

2. At first, I was concerned that there was no "spring training" or "batting practice" mode. Then I figured out that "rookie" mode is all about BP.

3. This game has the best create-a-player that I've ever seen.

4. Actual gameplay (controls and movements) is top-of-the-line.Better than any other baseball game I've seen to date.Once you master the reaction needed to field grounders (after changing infielders, if necessary) and position yourself for shagging fly balls, you're golden.I will agree with the other reviewer who mentioned that there seems to be at least one dropped fly ball per game, but in my case (thankfully), it usually happens to the CPU.

CONS:

1. No color commentary. There is a play-by-play announcer, and it is not very dynamic play-by-play--the announcer will repeat himself frequently. And if you score more than 100 runs in a game (yup, I have), he gets really confused. It's quite humorous.

2. Every single player has the same home run "trot" that involves pumping his fists in the air and landing defiantly on home plate. It's funny to see a player like Edgar Martinez--who shows very little emotion on the field in real-life--acting like he has never hit a home run before.

3. You can strike out anybody, anywhere, anytime by simply locating your pitch just beneath the strike zone.It doesn't matter what pitcher you are using.

4. There are lots of bugs.I won't repeat them since other reviewers have covered most of the, but one that is worth mentioning (and proves that I've played the heck out of this game) is that no player can have more than 127 homers in a season.Once you hit the 128th, the counter resets to -127 and counts back to zero.NICE.

5. I'm not sure why Sega even included the ability to "trade" in Franchise mode, because the CPU will reject any trade.I tried to trade Barry Bonds for Charles Gipson.Ixnay.Now THAT'S funny.

There are other issues, but these are the major pros and cons.I'm still waiting for a computer baseball game that truly blows me away but in the meantime, there is always the real thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best baseball game on Dreamcast, but flawed
World Series Baseball 2K2 for the Sega Dreamcast is a very fun and exciting game despite having many flaws. After having a terrible game World Series Baseball 2K1 game I knew this one just had to better, but I was reluctant to get it because of the way 2K1 made me want to get rid of it (Which I did afte rplaying it 3 times). This game is probably one of the deepest baseball games out there now. It has a very, very deep franchise mode where you can manage your team through several seasons by signing free agents, making trades, drafting players and re-building your team if you are struggling or your star gets signed by a new team. Another great mode is the Home Run Derby which is the best Home Run Derby in a video game for a very long time.

This game has many flaws that make this game frustrating at some points though:
1) There is a bug that allows pitchers to get the save and win if the come in in the top of the 9th after you scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the eighth

2) If your player hits a walk-off homerun, he will not be credited with the homerun in his stats
3) In this game it seems like arule for there to e an error made in the game while trying to ctach a fly ball
4) All homerun celebrations are the same, no Sammy Sosa leap, no Barry Bonds flinging the bat and walking, just pumping of their fists in the air.
5) Your catcher always throws out the computer if they attempt to steal.
6) In franchise mode you can't do blockbuster trades with multiple players, you can only make straight-up trades

Due to these and many other glitches this game is challenging, but still very fun. I foyu want a great baseball game for your Dreamcast check this one out, it's definitely worth 20 bucks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Many Inaccuracies, but Still Fun
Although I've found the gameplay much better than other baseball games, there are several things that are quite annoying about 2K2:
1)The reason the batting averages are so high is that anytime a runner is moved over, even on a groundout to the shortstop, it is considered a sacrifice.
2)Your catcher always throws out the computer's base stealer.
3)Pitchers hit far too many home runs.
4)It's useless to try to dive with an infielder, becuase if you miss the ball, the outfielder dives as well, so the computer will get a double or triple.
5)You can always move up on a flyball, because the computer will throw 2 bases ahead. This counts as a sacrifice fly, which also improves the batting average.
6)If you hit a "walk-off" homerun in the bottom of the ninth, the batter will not get credit in the statistics for either the hit or the home run. He'll only get credit for the RBI and run.
7)There's a glitch that allows a pitcher to get the win and the save.
8)Even though fielding is user-controlled, the computer intitially picks your fielder. Many times, it picks a fielder that is further away from the ball, and the one it should have selected will be running to cover the bag. This can make it tough to get some ground balls.
9)You can only do straight-up trades for a player of equal or lesser value. This really takes away from the franchise mode.
10)Your outfielders throw to the base, not a cutoff man. That means if the computer has a runner on 2nd and gets a base hit, you either have to concede the run and hold the batter at first, or try to throw the runner out at home and allow the batter to go to 2nd.The game doesn't allow you to select another fielder while the ball is in the air so that you can cut the ball off.

Because of all of these glitches, the game is definitley challenging.Because it's hard to "master," it's more fun, but some of these things are very basic that could have been avoided by using a little more care. ... Read more

Players who thought that NBA 2K was good are in for an evenbetter game of hoops this time around with NBA 2K1. Almost every area ofthe franchise has improved, and now players can hop online and challenge someonein Sioux City, Iowa--or anywhere else--if they please.

Player faces are much more recognizable, and the resolution and detail of thecourt is higher than it was before. The coaches, too, are more animated--raisingtheir hands in the air as a three-pointer goes up and in--and the crowd is morethree-dimensional and lively.

During the game, players will encounter better defense against lay-ups; also, they'll have to break down defenses with quick passing, and post up and backtheir way to the basket. On defense, the computer always looks for easy buckets, which forces players to double-team opponents and keep scorers to theoutside.

Franchise mode is the icing on the cake, as players can draft a team, and signtheir own players and free agents by making offers and orchestrating trades. Afew more special offensive moves would have been nice; but, as is, this is amust-have title for fanatic and casual b-ball fans alike. --Robb Guido

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good but it has bad graphics.
This is a good video game, but the problem is the graphics, man it's bad, and the superstar teams the San Rafael Sega Sports Team and the San Rafael Seganet are good but really racist, because they hardly have black guys on their teams, but I do like the San Rafael Mocap. My favorite players are Sadiki Fuller and Roy Byrd, and the name of their colleges are really funny: Dunk University Very Much, and University Read My Ankle, but is their such college as Light It Up University, and Redman is featured from Def Jam University, and Larry Peacock from Hard Knox College, and Charles Outlaw and Brian Grant. But when the players were made with giant heads, that was freaky, and I didn't like that over camera, but my favorite camera is swivel. I give it a ***** (5 out of 5).

It is too boring and the dunks are stupid because it make lil people be able to dunk. Jus plain horrible

Okay, my other review hardly told you anything about the game. Next to Sonic Adventure 2, this has the best graphics I've ever seen! The sound effects are awesome, you can hear the shoes squeaking on the floor, the 'harff' when you score a 3 pionter, and the 'Argh!' when you dunk it!It's like your there witnessing a real basketball game (not to mention the Commentary)! If your into games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, make an acception. You'll love this game! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's Great
This is OK and the bad thing is sometimes you have to replace the battery which allows you to play the mini games.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's not a problem with this lil' guy.
I have a few VMUs (this being my favorite one what with it being green and all) and all of them are wonderful little accessories. Yeah it looks like a Tamagotchi, but so what? This is the coolest memory card I've ever seen. You can play a few mini-games on it if you have a game that features one, copy files to other peoples' VMUs on-the-go, and files almost never corrupt/get deleted. In fact, in the 3 years I've had my Dreamcast, not a single save has vanished on me for no reason at all. If I start up a new game, and it doesn't save because the first VMU in my controller is full, I just take it out while the game's on and swap it with the one in slot 2 and that's all. The game doesn't freeze or anything like a ps2 or GC would do.

I haven't played that many DC games (no more than 35), so I don't know how many games take advantage of the VMU during gameplay. The one I know about from experience is Resident Evil Code: Veronica. While in the controller, the VMU displays your health status right there. 'very handy instead of just going to the menu every few minutes to make sure you're doing ok. There are sure to be a lot of other games that do something like this. Shenmue sort of helps with the VMU: displaying directions on how to do a new move while you're learning it. Don't worry about having to look down from the action just to see the controller's window, it's very easy to get in mind, and it's not a chore at all.

About space being an issue...there aren't that many games that take up 5/6 of the memory. Sports games do tend to take up a lot of space, and a few select titles (Shenmue and Seaman), but that's about it. And if you're a big sports gamer, then I reccomend picking up the 4x memory card so you have everything right there instead of swapping VMUs constantly. The only issue that could be a real gripe is if you play a lot of mini-games. The reason being that the VMU's batteries die very quickly. I bought a new one (still in the box) not that long ago, and they died within a week. Actually, probably more like 5 days. But when they die, that won't affect your saves. The batteries just run the VMU's screen when not being used while playing on the DC.

With all that in mind, go out and buy a couple more of these. They're incredibly cheap now and hold a lot of space. Good job Sega.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's an okay memory card, but...
This memory card (or Visual Memory Unit/VMU) is an original idea for saving games. Now you can play minigames, custimize your existing game, and hook up to another VMU to trade information, or just delete save data. In some games, this memory unit shows info (for instance, In Resident Evil Code: Veronica, it displays your health). There is one problem: Memory space. There is not enough space. 200 blocks just doesn't cut it. Example, most minigames require 128 blocks of memory. Then you get a game like Dino Crisis and it's 8 blocks. So far so good....until you get a game like Shemmue, which is 80 blocks. So, you didn't have enough space to save Shemmue because of the minigame, and now you need to delete memory or buy another card....Frustrating, huh? If all your concerned with is memory, get a 4x card. If you care more about a LCD screen and some buttons, get a VMU. Your choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars lets compare...
the 4x memory card is way better.
the reason i gave it 4 stars is because of mamory capacities.the vmu has very litle memory. if you only have 3 or less games this is good for you.but if your planing on getting more games or have a lot already get the 4x.
the good things about the vmu is that you can play mini games like with chao on sonic adventure 2you can view and erase files on the litle screenbut the bateries get sucked really fast! you can also conect 2 vmu's to play head to head. for shenmue the vmu shows you what buttons to push on the screen if your learning a new move.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woo Hoo! good memory card
This is UNDOUBTEDLY the greatest memory card ever invented for ANY system. I just wonder why they didnt make a visual memory card for any other systems...anyway, this why i like it:

1.)You can display memory stored on the card with the lcd screen.
2.)You can download characters from an rpg game and train them in the car, or anywhere.
3.)If you get 'sonic adventure' or 'namco museum',you can play mini games on the memory card - fun :)
4.)It can store up to 200 blocks of memory
5.)It can display the time and date, and has a background with a fish, bird, or a dog going across the screen
6.)While playing sports games, like nfl 2k1 or nfl 2k2, you can use the visual memory unit to choose a play, without your opponent seeing what play your choosing.
7.)You can hook it to another visual memory unit and play head to head or copy data from one to the other
8.)The batteries last a pretty long time- a little longer than a game boy's batteries
9.)It has a hook on the bottom, which you can attach a string to
10.)It comes withcap, which can be used to protect the two plugs on the top ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 2K1 is very good, but is it better than Madden's series?
I like this game and have not played Madden much at all.
How to control defensive linemen:
off the snap:
press A and hold with heel of thumb
-press trigger L or R for club
-hold A and a trigger, then lightly tap B for spin
-hold A and a trigger, then tap Y for swim maneuver
-hold A and a trigger, then tap X for rip(I think)

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW...football on the Dreamcast peaked here
NFl 2K1 is the best NFL game around! It has great graphics, lots of replay value and great commentary that is not annoyingly repetative. The backround graphics could have been touched up but the games still ROCKS. If you own a Dreamcast (the best system that never made it) then get this

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 2K2.
This is probably the most complete NFL game there is. Certainly the best one I've ever played. So it's 2002 and the rosters are out of date and the graphics are a little dated. That shouldn't bother you. The passing, running, and catching are all top notch in my opinion. If you get the hang of it on Rookie, bump up the difficulty to Pro. You'll have to be pretty good to do well on Pro. The A.I. doesn't learn your patterns very well, and you can usually win games by running the same plays over and over (I have about 8 plays I run all the time and I won the Super Bowl last season on Pro setting). I can't say how tough it is on All-Pro, but I will find out some day. If you don't mind if your football is a little old, you really should get this one. You can get it for real cheap usually.

5-0 out of 5 stars good game
This is a great game. The graphics are awesome. The A.I. defense is easily juked out and plays weak defense
the plays are realistic and Curtis Martin and Warrick Dunn are the best backs in the game
Minus some defensive errors this is a flawless game

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifelike.
If only I never traded it for Virtua Tennis (see my review for that, too.) All the teams are like real and other than the faces, so are the players. Play is so realistic, and if you don't be careful, you can easily get sacked. Just take off all the penalties (except offside) and your ready to play. If you get lucky, you can beat the Redskins with the Falcons 89-21 like me in the time that they originally give (5 minute qts.). But don't be foolish and trade it. The practice mode is also very fun because you get to have the whole offensive and defensive teams on the field at once. Get with your friends on Monday nights when football season's not around and have yourself a wonderful time with NFL2K1. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sega blue controller
very good...cool color...vendor shipped UPS...classy

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent item, but poor durability
The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of poor durability. I used that little hook in back of the slot which gets the cord out of the way while you're playing and the cord shorted out from bending it.I also wrapped the cord around the controller when I'm done playing so it wouldn't be all over the place in the entertainment center and that also [messed]it up.The looks are awesome.I think red is the best color.Just make sure that you don't do what I did. When I opened it up, hopping to fix it, it didn't do any good but make the buttons unlined when I put it back together.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALWAYS GO WITH SEGA BRAND CONTROLLERS !!
.... i've been playing video games for many many years (20+ to be exact), and i've learned THE HARD WAY that you should ALWAYS buy controllers that are made by the same company that makes the gaming console you're playing.....as for this semi-transparent green colored dreamcast controller, WOW it looks really cool doesn't it ??? seriously, don't EVER bother with controllers made by other companies (also known as: 3rd party controllers).....often these "3rd party" controllers have buttons that stick and feel funny and the analog thumb joysticks don't feel right or break down faster.... TRUST ME ON THIS ! If you're in need of a Sega Dreamcast controller, ALWAYS GO WITH SEGA BRAND CONTROLLERS !

5-0 out of 5 stars Make your friends green with envy :-)
I really like this color on the Dreamcast controller. It is the atomic bomb man. Grey is kind of boring, liven it up a little. Beside, I was born on March 17, St. Patrick's Day, so it has alots of appeal for me. Green means go and get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Buy this instead of those P.O.S third party controls! This is a cool way to be creative with your system! There are 5 different colors to buy, all matching the VMU colors so it looks even better. I have a Green VMU so this is my pick. You can choose the standard Gray, yellow, red, green, charcoal (black) or blue. They are high quality, and get the controls at awesome half price of 14.99 while you can! They VMU's are 10 dollars, 15 less than the original price, so pick up a control and a VMU for the same price the VMU used to cost! Get it quick! ... Read more
