Amazon.com Product Description

When longtime Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut on the Dreamcast console in Sonic Adventure, gamers were stunned. Sega had not only used the game to show off the tremendous possibilities of the then-new hardware, but they had reinvigorated the platform-style arcade adventure genre with massive, intricate levels, gleefully distracting minigames, and even a new kind of virtual pet, called a Chao, that could be combined with other pets, traded with friends, and even exchanged over the Internet. Sonic Adventure 2 ups the ante of its predecessor with all-new puzzles and levels, and even faster action reminiscent of the early Genesis-era games. Knuckles and Tails are back, as are the Chao pets (who can now talk!). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sonic Adenture 2, great game
This is one of my favorite Dream Cast Games. It has good graphics, but when they talk it's like wacthing a Japenese Godzilla movie being translated into english.

You may be either the Dark or Light with each differnt levels and story line. The characters you get are Shadow, Rouge, Dr. Robotink, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

You also unlock SoundTracks you can listen to in the Options menu. I never really pay much attention to this though.

My favorite thing in this game has to be the Kart Racing Feature You unlock in the Tails and Rouge chase level.

This is also for two players too.

You can also get new objectives inthe level you beaten in the extras menu.

Overall this is a cool game you must buy it when you get the chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game is a 100% Definite Buy!
I hope this reveiw will be good to anyone who is thinking about buying this game. This was my first gamecube game I ever got, and i still play it.One of the best things about it is that there is always something to do, whether it is trying to get all "A"s on the stages, still trying to finish up Dark or Hero mode, then there is the whole thing with raising chao. But the game has a good storyline, and you can play from the dark charcters point of veiw ( Dr. Eggman, one of the only times you can play him!, Shadow the Hedgehog, like the oppesite of Sonic, and Rouge the Bat, someone which does the same thing Knuckles does in the game,) or the hero charcters (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails). The soundtrack is good and graphics are also very good. But going through raising chao is a whole nother story. You transport to Chao World, and you hatch an egg, and give animals and Chaos Drives found in the level. The change drasticly and start to be better at certain things, I won't say some of the things that can happen, and make the chao look cool, but a hint is, unless you want a neutral chao, try raising it with only one side of charcters, hero or dark. That is the great thing with Chaos, you can never beat that part of the game.I hope my reveiw was worthwille for Sonic Adventure Battle 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars If I had to live with only one game then its this one!
I must first admit that I am subjective as I have played Sonic games since 1991.Sonic is, without question, the greatest video game series created.Mario who?

I don't have a Nintendo Gamecube, so I don't know how well the "port" of this translated to the GC.I do have a PS2 and Xbox and anxiously await for Sonic Heroes.I also have a GBPAsp and play Sonic Advance (1 and 2) often.

Sonic Adventure 2 (and Sonic Adventure 1) are worth locating a Dreamcast for alone. With Dreamcasts selling now for only $25 at local game stores, you don't have much to invest to get this game playing. (If you don't already have a DC.)

Its not perfect, it does have some quirks such as the camera positioning sometimes during the game. While you do have limited control of the camera in real time, there are times in the game where you may have to make a "blind jump" because of the view angle.A "blind jump" is a jump over an obstable that can't be seen. You simply jump and hope for the best.

Regardless of this quirk, this game is the game I would want to be with if I could only have one game. With vibrant graphics, fast aracady game play, a 3D nostalgia of the excellent 2D scrollers of years past, this game could very well be labeled as "the best game ever for any console".

4-0 out of 5 stars Sonic rocks
I definately reccomend this game! Buy it! Sega of America did it again with Sonic Adventure 2!!
Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Sonic 4ever
When I first played this game I was at my friend's house. I really enjoyed playing with the chaos and beating all the different levels in the 2-player mode. Very fun indeed.

The graphics on this game are totally and completely awsome. Whenever I play it I always come back to thinking about the grapics and how much they seem so real. The music is great too, especially the lyrics. They are so capturing that I almost always find myself singing along.

Even though I have only gotten passed the 11th level/Death Chamber, what I have played was great. (I hope eggman doesn't take over the world.) In the levels there has been lots of fun and exictement, with 6 characters to choose from you never actually know what's coming next. There's racing with Shadow and Sonic, Treasure hunting with Knuckles and Rouge, and button mashing shooting stages between Dr. Eggman and Tails

Anyways, pretty much every aspect of the game is wonderful, except for a few things: for one, the lipsyncing is notoriously poor, some lyrics in the music are pretty rude, and it's sorta hard the chao combinations work for you(such as animals and chaos drives), and if you don't do it right they can turn out looking kinda drunk. But hey , no game is perfect so that's just my opinion. If you ever play the game and you want to get , go for it , but I suggest getting the GameCube version since the Dreamcast one is pretty hard to find. I loooooooooove this game!!! Go Sega!!! ... Amazon.com Review

CrazyTaxi was an arcade game turned Dreamcast showcase that reallyhelped sell the system. Now that the Dreamcast is on its last legs,Sega throws crazed drivers everywhere a bone by moving the sequel tothe system. Crazy Taxi 2 is the same as Crazy Taxi, onlycrazier!

First off, Sega moved the scenery from hilly San Francisco to thenarrow urban canyons of New York City--which is a bad thing if thehills in the first game were an attraction. But this one has CentralPark, and that's a thrill unto itself. Also, Crazy Taxi 2 letsyou pick up multiple passengers (on occasion), which is the best way tokeep that timer up and score bigger points.

Once again you've got aggravating and conspicuous advertising in thegame--from Burger King and KFC to clothing stores and other real-worlddestinations. Masters of Mayhem andOffspring supplythe music. The Offspring song is a new one--at least we're pretty sureit is--but like all Offspring songs it sounds like the one from thelast game.

Additionally, there are new Crazy Stunts you can perform. Crazy Golfentails a run at a massive ball, with a goal of smacking it a good 100yards. Crazy Balloon 2 challenges you to pop all the balloons in ashort span of time. Plus there are three more minigames you can play. You can play arcade style with a set time limit, or on a big or smallNYC map.

The controls are tight and easily as good as last time, but someplayers may still have trouble performing some of the more difficulttricks. Also, this game is extremely similar to the first one. Anyonebored with Crazy Taxi isn't going to find Crazy Taxi 2 abreath of fresh air. But the game is still really fun for players ofall ages. It's crazy, wild, and a completely realistic simulation of areal NYC cab ride. --Andrew S. Bub

Pros:

  • NY, NY is a heck of town
  • Same tried-and-true gameplay as the original
  • Lots of new minigames, drivers, and maps
Cons:
  • No hills
  • Same tried-and-true gameplay as the original

3-0 out of 5 stars Honestly I thought the 1st was better but still average..
Crazy Taxi 2 is the sequal to the Sega hit Crazy Taxi. Now I usually make bigger reviews to be honest I'll just make this my

SHORT and Sweet Review..

Now The 1st Crazy Taxi was DC game but lost its exclusitivity(yeah that sounds dumb but It just came up my head) and can be found on
Xbox
Gamecube and Ps2.Though the best version is the Dreamcast you can probably spend it on the Ps2 version or the other systems since DC games seem to be a pain to find now.

The graphics are solid and the gameplay loses its touch later on...OK MAYBE JUST FOR ME MAN!I didn't think the game was that great but like I said before...

Graphics good...gameplay...ehhh gets old. This is must for any Die Hard Dreamcast owner but For people who want more then just another sequal with "some" stuff stay clear away from this...I'm not saying the game is bad!I just think the 1st it better...

I really enjoyed the game over all and though it was an A-O-K Dreamcast Game..

I give CrAzY Taxi for the Sega Dreamcast a...

3.0 out5 stars.....

*NOTE*

Other then Crazy Taxi the Sega Dreamcast(R.I.P) has some really awesome amazing games... Some for example Sonic Adventure, Marval Vs Capcom2(and yes the DC version is the best mainly cause it was the original version and it was DC exclusive at one point)

And yeah.....well..

Lates..

4-0 out of 5 stars Addictive Fun
The reason that "Crazy Taxi 2" doesn't get a prefect 5-star rating is that it's only one player, which destroys the possibility of what potentially would be the most enjoyable way to play the game, sitting beside a friend frantically competing to pick up the most customers and money, last the longest without running out of time, etc.
That said, Crazy Taxi 2 functions surprisingly well as a party game. Something about the bright visuals, loud sound effects, and raucus music, along with the fast pace of the action -- there is always a new task to complete -- make it almost as much fun to watch someone play the game as it is to play oneself. I've often found myself cheering along with a friend's efforts. (Or jeering, depending on my mood)
As for playing solo, make sure you clear your schedule. While an individual game might only take five minutes, one can easily sink hours into trying to earn more money, a better license, etc... the very fact that "one more game" takes such a short amount of time contributes to the addiction.
In short, if you can pick this game up at a gamestop or on Ebay, I highly reccomend it as one of the better Dreamcast titles.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while but a game with NO depth is destined to fail
Crazy Taxi 2 is fun for a while but when you either beat the pyramid or become upset because its too hard to beat then the game will slowly make its way to the bottom of your collection.

It has great graphics and tight control but the music is a letdown and my aren't those cab drivers crude. The game is a welcome addition to any Dreamcast library even if it will eventually get old.

1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy this game.
this game is the worst game of all time. it has horrible graphics horrible camera angles and bores the crap out of you quickly. everything looks so basic and dull the game is no fun at all. the cars dont move in the direction you want them to. i like trying out games a lot. but im sorry i ever checked out this garbage. for a fun time check out any grend theft auto or the most recent nascar game. this game is really bad and should definitely go down without notice. im so glad i only rented this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars another great game by sega
This is one of my favorite games, i cant understand
why sega fall with games like this.
Its original, funny, its a challenge beat this game,
awesome graphics, the control its easy well i can
say a lot of more good things about him.
Once you started you cant stop playing this game,
the crazy pyramid oh you gonna have problems with
the last 2 misions, and of course...
Buy it!
And learn from SEGA, nintendo. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Seaman is quite possibly the weirdest video game to everbe released. It's also one of the most incredibly original titles in avery long time. And if you don't believe me, just ask the frisky Seaman,a fish/reptile with a human face--it isn't shy.

According to legend, this strange creature is the discovery of scientistJean Paul Gasse. The weird-looking beast was documented to have analmost grotesque look about it, as it had the body of a reptile and theface of a man. Yet it was able to talk and reason with the doctor aswell as your average human. And while the good doctor was laughed intoobscurity after trying to explain his discovery, you have theopportunity to raise a Seaman from egg to its fishlike state and beyond.

Not only must you keep Seaman well fed and warm, you'll find thatconversation (via the included microphone) with Seaman is a must. Thescaly inquisitor will probe into your personal life by asking about yourage, marital status, and favorite music, among other things. Also, iftreated well this creature will spew its (usually sarcastic) rantings onpop culture, the Internet, and even reality itself. There's even a touchof sexual innuendo that may raise a few eyebrows. I doubt your goldfishever did that.

The speech recognition is far from perfect, but there's no doubt thatthe gimmick almost always causes a smile when you realize how longyou've been conversing with a fish and just how many words it doesrespond to. The simplistic graphics often make Seaman look like he'sswimming in space rather than in a huge tank, but this game makes noclaim to break new ground in graphics--it's the speech recognition thatis most noteworthy. Star Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy acts asnarrator, bringing all of the emotion of Spock (read: none) to hisperformance--yet somehow it works.

Since the Seaman can starve or freeze if not tended to regularly(raising this thing will take weeks), it might be a good idea to investin another Visual Memory Unit to store the status of Seaman's habitatand your performance.

It's hard to say just how much "game" is actually in this title. Rather,Seaman offers an interesting life journey through birth, growth, death, rebirth, and change. Seaman offers a unique Dreamcastexperience that is both disturbing and fascinating. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • A very ugly fish that talks--how cool is that?
  • Seaman can recognize quite a surprising number of words with theincluded microphone, and he talks back
  • Easy to play
  • Sarcastic wit (read: very American) and humor can be good for a fewlaughs
Cons:
  • Speech recognition is inconsistent (often words are completelymisunderstood)
  • Graphics are suitably simplistic but never really deliver thefeeling that Seaman is swimming in water
  • Probably doesn't taste good with chips

5-0 out of 5 stars I love you Seaman
Like others here have already said- this game isn't for everyone. In fact, it's only for a select few gamers- the kind that are looking for new and strange things. It's cool that Sega never cares about money, and is always the one company we can count on for innovation. It's just too bad that they never get the credit they deserve. Sega's always been ahead of their time, as we saw with the Dreamcast.

Anyway, I love this "game". When I first got it when it came out, I wasn't really sure what to expect. You actually do take on the role of a scientist, creating life before your very eyes. You start out with an empty tank, and an egg + some food pellets in your inventory. Place the egg in the tank, and set the heat to 19.9 (under 20 at least), and the oxygen all the way up. After a few minutes, the egg hatches, and you get mushroomers. Soon after, the natilus starts moving, and eats your mushroomers. Make sure that it leaves at least one alive. Try tapping on the glass away from the natilus to draw the mushroomer(s) closer to you. After a few minutes, the natilus comes out of its shell and dies. Now, you have Seamen.

Yeah, I bet that sounds boring to you. For the first 2-3 days, you teach Seaman small words (like "hello", "afternoon", "seaman", etc.), but the baby Seamen start killing eachother, and you're left with two. As they grow up, their voices become very deep and cool. Seaman is quite the scholar. He'll ask you questions about your life and what you like whenever you talk to him. Of course, you can only put in 15 hours of gameplay a day, and you'll be doing just fine...as your talk sessions don't last that long. They're more of a Q&A. But that's ok, I enjoyed the responses Seaman gave me. When I told him my birthday, he told me that I share it with Elizabeth Hurley and a few other cool celebrities. Thanks Seaman!

The voice recognition isn't as bad as people say. As long as you speak clearly and not too fast, Seaman should be able to understand most of the things you say to him. Please give Seaman a chance, he's a good guy. And you'll be sad to let him go in the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars seaman is great!
this game is really fun. it's kinda like a sim mixed with a giga pet. you feed it , raise it, take care of it, and of course, talk to it. yes, some of the time the words are missunderstood, but if you talk loud and clearly enough, it's just fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Great the First Few Times......... (3.5 stars)
....but after you've beat it and played it a couple times, it gets really old very quickly. But, this game is %100 original!A very unique and cool concept.I just think more could've been done to keep the replay value up a bit.

The graphics:Amazing
The sound:Very good
Concept:Out of this world!
Replay Value: Gets boring after you play it enough

So the only reason why I'm giving this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is because, let's face it, it can get old very quickly.Plus, you have to have A LOT of free time to keep him alive!!!I used to have that time in high school, but now starting my second semester at college, well.....time isn't as free any more.

It's a game that should be checked out, though.Just be warned, you might get bored with it real quick.I thought it was the greatest game at first, but then it seemed like nothing new happens.Once you beat it, that's it.Replay value is the only major flaw with the game.

Editorial Review

Even if you're not fond of sports titles in general, the simplepick-up-and-play feel and speedy on-court action in VirtuaTennis make it a worthy addition to any game library. Sega did anexcellent job making sure even those unfamiliar with the rules andstrategy of tennis will be able to jump right into the game. With alittle practice you can pop lobs, perform an overhead smash, or evenreturn the ball with a through-the-legs trick shot.

Starting the game presents three game modes. Arcade mode is a directtranslation of the coin-operated arcade game in which you must defeatfive challengers in order to win a championship. Exhibition mode allowsyou to choose a player and then challenge any of the other availabletennis players in singles or doubles matches. World Circuit mode caststhe player as a tennis superstar, touring the world and competing forheaps of cash and worldwide rank.

If you're looking to play as one of the top tennis aces in the world, you're going to be disappointed. No Sampras, Agassi, or any othertennis giants are to be found. Rather, you're stuck with 16 smallernames including Jim Courier, Carlos Moyà, and YevgenyKafelnikov. Despite the recent boom in popularity, the women's tenniscircuit is unfortunately completely absent.

Sega's presentation and graphics are very well done and could almost bemistaken for a real televised match. Details such as the crowds, linejudges, and instant replays look stunning. It's a shame that VirtuaTennis doesn't feature the famous venues and tournaments of realtennis, but the game's imitation stadiums in England, New York, andFrance look close enough to be recognizable. The player graphics arefantastic. Each player displays plenty of detail in everything fromfacial expressions to sneaker logos. Both the TV-style overhead viewand the behind-the-shoulder viewpoints feature animation that's almostalways ultrasmooth and is guaranteed to keep your eyes glued to thescreen. --Mark Brooks

  • Amazing graphics
  • Easy to play yet hard to master

1-0 out of 5 stars doesn't workwith Windows XP
I ordered this game, but cannot make any comments about it because I haven't played it yet. Why? Because the damn thing doesn't function with Windows XP!I have tried everything, am an experienced computer user, have played other PC tennis games, but for some reason, it is not compatible with XP. If someone out there can give me some information on how to use this game with XP, I wish you would e-mail me at jrryns@syd.eastlink.ca...on the box it says that it IS compatible with XP, but I'll believe it when I see it ..... I would like to use it with Microsoft Sidewinder plug n play, but I can't even get out of the starting gate. If you are using this game with Windows, please send me as much detailed description of how to get it going as you can.....Jerlaw

5-0 out of 5 stars intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy
Virtua Tennis is a pixel-perfect translation of the arcade hit. In addition, the game features a number extras designed for the port over to Dreamcast. The result is a very fun gaming experience.

Like Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis sports a number of extras in addition to the arcade port. Included in the Dreamcast version are: arcade mode, exhibition mode, and world circuit mode. World Circuit Mode is most challenging as you travel the world taking part in trial matches earning money and buying items such as equipment or doubles' partners. Your techniques are also sharpened in various training stages such as the pin crasher, where the bowling pins must be knocked down with serves.

Virtua Tennis is an intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy. Even if Sega had done a simple port of the arcade game, Virtua Tennis would have warranted a purchase. However, they have thrown in the extra modes to warrant a MUST buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars i didn't think i'd like it
I have to admit I was rather surprised i liked this game. When my brother gave me his Dreamcast, this was one of the games he gave me along with it. I'm not a fan of watching tennis, and I can't play worth anything. But the game turned out to be fun. Like most of the Dreamcast sports games, it isn't too difficult for a player like me (one who doesn't play all the time and isn't a phenomenal player). The graphics are nice, and game play is easy to figure out and really works well. There is a save option and the game turns out to be quite fun. I say yes if you are asking whether or not to pick up this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweetnicity
I just bought this game today and overall it is a good buy. The only problem with the game seems to be that there are no tennis superstars such as Agassi or Sampras. Whats even worst is that there are no chicks, no Ana Kournikova! Otherwuys, even if you dont like tennis, this game is addictive and easy to play. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness takes the original formula and updatesit for the new millennium. The most striking change is the game's new 3-Dorientation. The play is expanded, but it is largely based on the original.Maze Madness involves a weird story of gems being scattered throughoutPac-Land. A witch is after the gems, so you must find them all before shedoes.

Maze Madness is a bit of a misleading title, because while the game doesinvolve mazes, it's the puzzles that will stop your progress. Most of thepuzzles aren't that hard, but a few will stump you for a bit. There are blocksto push, TNT to explode, and springboards that propel you upward.

Players are awarded stars for completing different tasks, such as finding allthe fruit in a level, munching all the pellets in a level, or beating the levelin time-trial mode. Initially, earning one star per level will get you to thenext stage, but you must go back and earn more stars to unlock later levels.

Maze Madness' graphics are smooth and crisp, but they aren't verydetailed. The game has the look and feel of a cartoon's minimal lightingeffects. Ms. Pac-Man herself is just a round polygonal sphere with sometextures, arms, and legs glued on. There are a few particle effects in the titlethat look very good, but Namco didn't do too much else to tax the Dreamcast'sgraphics abilities.

Where this game excels is in the level design. A puzzle game like this is madeor broken on the ingenuity of the levels. Also, Maze Madness featuressome multiplayer options, which, combined with its simple, family-friendlygameplay, makes it an excellent choice for a party game. --Todd Mowatt

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean fun for the family and a dying breed of games
There should be more games like Ms Pac Man out there. Its clean fun and a great game. If you want a good, challenging and most of all FUN game then its made for you.

Go get it you won't regret it and pick up Frogger 2 while you're at it, they're both mad fun

Great graphics, great sound and challenging (you gotta think to beat this one)!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for the Whole Family
I bought this game, wondering if it was similar to the retro-Centipede.It was better in many ways.Like Centipede, you can play either the classic version or the new.Personally, I like the new game better. The music is superior, the graphics are good, and the adventure theme makes the game more challenging than the "antique".
The object of the game is to eat all the dots and collect all the fruit. This isn't an easy feat. There are several gadgets you have to work to get around in the levels. Those are easy to learn, thanks to the tutorial in the first level. Not only do you have to avoid/eat the ghosts, but there are other nasty creatures as well, such as exploding bottle rockets (in the China Town level), feral cats (in the Ice level), and guard dogs (in the Haunted House level). When you complete each level, you have the option of playing a bonus game or moving on to the next level. What's more, you can either play the Quest level or the Timed level. The latter involves getting Ms. Pac-Man through the maze in a minute or two.For experienced gamers, this isn't a problem. For novice users, it will prove more frustrating.
The haunted house level was my favorite. There were so many monsters and pitfalls that it kept me entertained for hours.I found that if I kept going in full circle, I was able to collect everything. What frustrated me in the other levels was that I couldn't get to all the dots and fruits, which is needed to earn a star, which determines whether or not you can go to the next level.I learned that there were secret doors, but sometimes I couldn't access them. Then there was the issue of the controls. The slightest push could send Ms. Pac-Man to her doom. There were many times where I lost a life because I had moved the controller one way, but went the other. That didn't matter because you can go back to the previous level and collect more health/life icons.By the time I finished the game, I had collected more than 150 lives.
Despite the frustrations, this is a very good game the whole family will enjoy.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Addictive
I thought this game was the best! If i could i would have played it for hours on end-though some of the puzzles can be annoyingly hard-that gives the game texture. Along with the fact that there are many different courses to go alonge the maze. For retro loves there is also the first one and fun multiplayer games.

5-0 out of 5 stars fun to play
Fun and simple gameplay, with complex moves to make and puzzles to solve. You must journey to save the Princess while on your way face mindless enemies.Rather than a fixed map, you can traverse the many lands and secret chambers in 3-d perspective, up-down-sideways etc.Collect items and power pellets, replenish your health with hearts, and defeat the evil Wicked Witch. The breathtaking soundtrack, cinematics and mini-games will make your twenty-bucks seem worth it.This game is great for all ages, but there's only a one player mode.I give a 4.5 star rating.(that rounds up to 5, oh well)

5-0 out of 5 stars A true classic!
Even more fun than when I was a kid.It does have multi-player capability which is nice, but the solo adventure is good for hours of fun. ... Read more

If you're the type of gamer who'd rather lay down cards than blow uparmies, Sega's Caesars Palace 2000 might be the payoff that you've beenanticipating. With a wide variety of games, which range from card games to tablegames like roulette and craps to video and slot machines, Caesars Palace2000 offers something for the gambler in just about everyone.

Graphically, Caesars Palace 2000 takes full advantage of the Dreamcast'scapabilities, with tables so sharp you can feel the felt, excellently animatedshuffles and deals, and authentically marked chips and cards.

The odds at this casino were verified by math analyst William Bertram, and areas realistic as in any physical gambling hall. For this reason, if you don'tusually leave Las Vegas overflowing with winnings, don't expect to be winningevery hand at Caesars Palace 2000. On the other hand, this realism makesthe game a perfect practice ground for gambling in the real world. The game'stutorial advice, although offered usually only after a goof, is accurate andprecise--a perfect primer for learning new games.

The only major drawback to the game is its speed. As devotees of computersolitaire know, the beauty of card games on a video system is that there's noneed for shuffling or actually dealing the cards. That said, Caesars Palace2000 maintains realism by showing shuffles and deals, but these detract fromgameplay by slowing the time between hands. This slowness is particularlyobvious in the slot machines. --Benjamin Reese

Pros:

  • Highly realistic casino gambling environment
  • Realistic odds, verified by math analyst William Bertram
  • Excellent graphics and sound
  • High replayability

  • Realistic animation slows game pace, sometimes to point of boredom

1-0 out of 5 stars RETURNED FORA REFUND!!
I was really excited when my husband surpised me with the game, but became disappointed as I continued to play.I would not consider myself a professional gambler but I do enjoy gambling and frequent the casinos in Lake Tahoe and Reno. I was able to get a refund and exchange the game the following day.

5-0 out of 5 stars for casino gamblers, real and otherwise...
Caesar's Palace 2000 is not a game that will be appreciated by the casual video gamer. It will, however, be very much appreciated by those who are familiar with and enjoy genuine casino gaming and the casino environment. It assumes a basic knowledge of the numerous casino games included in the release. These are Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Pai Gow Poker, Spanish 21, Mini-Baccarat, Red Dog, Casino War, Slots, Video Poker, Video Poker Challenge, and Video Keno.

The manual does list some basic rules for the numerous games, and offers a help-as-you-play kind of assistance, but Caesar's Palace 2000 will not teach you casino gaming. Not by itself.

To appreciate Caesar's Palace 2000, you will have to have been familiar with the casino environment as well as the particular game you are playing, or you seriously want to become familar with them. And by casino environment, I mean *playing* environment. No scantily clad cocktail servers, neon signs or flashing lights are to be had, but the tables and machines are dead on. As real as any I've ever seen, outside of an actual casino. Caesar's Palace 2000 is a serious casino simulation, for those interested in serious casino gaming.

The value in this title for the single player is a realistic training environment for casino gaming. But you will need other instructional aid, such as some of the the numerous gambling tutorial books and videos widely available. If you're armed with some of these, Caesar's Palace 2000 will prove to be an excellent teacher for two reasons. One is, the mathematics, or 'odds', for the various games are verified as accurate by William Bertram, Ph.D. And reason number two is, the game puts forth a very realistic 'feel' to the casino gaming simulation. But you can only appreciate it if you've actually sat at a roulette, craps, blackjack table, or played another casino game. If you have not, you will miss the subtlety of the 3D rendered tables and gaming areas, and the associated background noise and voices. Everything in this game is designed to maintain the players' focus on actual casino gaming of the serious variety (and when money is at stake, what other varieties are there?)

This game will also have very high value as a party game, because it supports up to four players. Of course, the four players will need to be familiar with actual casino gaming for most of the games included. It should be noted that there is a very strict warning during the game's intro that this product is not to be used for gambling in any way, and that it is highly illegal to do so. But I also have to state that with the accurate math and the authentic tables and machines included, it certainly could be used for gambling.

In fairness, though, Caesar's Palace 2000 does have a lighter side, with an almost-normal video game aspect to it. This is done via a levels-based money and wagering system, where the player must attain a certain degree of proficiency in any particular game before he is able to bet larger amounts.

All of the graphics, equipment, and game rules are authentically Caesar's Palace based, and as such they are quite classy. The animation is flawless, and the voice-overs by the dealers and croupiers are very realistic. The background noise and the sounds of the cards and machines are dead-on. In particular, the lighting of the several table and card game layouts is fantastic.

This game is a winner for the more serious casino gamer, or for anyone who would like to train or play in an authentic casino environment. Anyone else, though, will probably want to pass this title by.

4-0 out of 5 stars Caesar's Palace Is Not a Clunker!
General/Summary: For a game that was ripped to pieces on every notable game review website all I have is one question...which game were they playing? I admit that I tried to cancel my order after reading all the bad things said but it was too late. When I received it I had planned to simply return it but decided that the hassle wasn't worth it so I played it. I was VERY surprised just how much I liked this game. The graphics are very sharp and are excellent adaptations of each game. The only thing missing in my opinion was a lack of ambiance. To be able to actually walk the casino would have been fun but if the end point is simply walking up to a game and playing anyway it probably serves no point. Also poker games should have been included instead of just video poker. To omit this to me was a poor decision. There is a nice variety of other games however. Gameplay: Gameplay is pretty simple. There are "speed bets" if you simply want to bet or play the same strategy on each turn. It would have been nice if you could save the amount of each bet per game instead of having to re-enter it each time but you can save all other options per game, which is nice. The "coaching" function is very helpful. I really have learned alot about odds, rules and straegy and it has helped me play better. Once you get the hang of it you can simply turn off this function and play withput interuption. Playing the machines is a little clunky but not horrible. There are also some "speed" settings for them such as entering multiple coins instead of one at a time. Not all machines clearly show "credits" which is a little frustrating.

Graphics: Tables and machines are sharp and really quite impressive. No slowdown is noticed at all. As mentioned earlier it would have been nice to feel like you weren't alone. Each game is just a black void around the actual game. Even if you just saw carpet below when you are looking down at a table or people standing around cheering you on in Craps, as an example, would have been nice.

Sound: The dealers sound very good and use the actual catch phrases for each game. Craps is especially fun to hear. There is however some redundancy and most of the voices sound staged instead of spontaneous but are in no way bad. There is also variety in that it's not always the same voices assigned to games. It can vary from male to female each time you come back and there also are differences in dialect such as a British voice for example. The machines however sound too much the same to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
