Amazon.com Review Although the main missions can be completed in an afternoon, it cantake weeks to earn the bronze, silver, and gold medals that unlock thegame's bonuses. These include extra missions, a few two-player modes, and the ability to choose any ship for each mission (including DarthMaul's incredibly powerful Infiltrator). Most of the missions are intense, involving efforts like racing throughan enemy-infested canyon or defending a base against a ceaselessprocession of droid air and ground forces. The game engine can throw anoverwhelming number of 3-D objects on the screen at once--such as amission where more than 50 hostile fighters swarm nearly a dozen largecapital ships. The beauty of these large battles is mesmerizing, withlasers crisscrossing, massive explosions thundering all around, andconstant radio chatter alerting players to new threats. The controls for the various fighters and bombers are extremely basic, and combat is straightforward, but there is always so much going on atonce that the game mechanics almost need to be simple. The only realdrawbacks to the game are a few bugs that occasionally crop up andprevent us from completing missions, and the fact that planetarymissions have a low "ceiling" that prevents us from climbing very high.Even with these faults, the game exceeded our expectations, and noarcade, action, or Star Wars fan with a PlayStation2 will wantto miss it. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Cons: Reviews (97)
One thing is for sure, this game grew on me. I wasn't a fan of it in November of 2001, but I sure am now. Probably most comparable to STAR WARS: X-WING VS. TIE FIGHTER for the PC (which I love), this game features you piloting one of three characters on a variety of different missions on a variety of different worlds. In game graphics are really good. Ships look very detailed and accurate to the specifications that the movies set forth. Controls are perfect - I've got no complaints. While missions rarely are ever anything more than "Shoot a bunch of stationary objects while avoiding fire from various fighters", they always manage to be fun. They do, however, also manage to be frustrating at times. For one thing, you seem to be the only competent member of your squadron in the air at any given time. If you don't complete mission objectives, they won't get done. Asking for covering fire from teammates will help you very little, if at all. And despite always hearing your teammates cries for help, enemies tend to single you out pretty consistently and you are frequently bombarded by a large amount of laser fire, missiles, etc. This alone definitely hurts the final score. Another thing that hurts the score is the length. While the game consists of fifteen missions, very few will take you more than one try to complete. The story takes place around the events of STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, and while it is better than the movie, it isn't anything to write home about. The introduction of the character works well enough (Character A's story will overlap with and serve as Character B's, effectively introducing the latter character), once it expands beyond that it tends to fall flat. Events come off as unmotivated, and above all confusing. The presentation here is very high. From detailed level locations to John Williams' classic score, nothing here fails to impress. All in all, I do believe that I should have given this game more of a chance two years ago. It was fun while it lasted (which wasn't very long), and it definitely made me want to go out and pick up STAR WARS: JEDI STARFIGHTER, which is something that I was totally against a few days prior to playing this game again.

Amazon.com Review Tricky removes two characters from the previous game and adds five newones. It adds two new race locations to the already beefed-up World Circuit(Garibaldi and Alaska). The developers also added features to the older tracks, effectively making them new again. Tricky improves the graphics a bit andrefines the controls. The game even tweaks the basic gameplay by letting youupgrade your boarder's stats in races, but also forcing you to attempt andmaster the showoff mode. And EA improved the challenge by evening out thelearning curve. SSX tended to be a cakewalk until the later races in eachset, but this time your rivals get more intense and aggressive depending uponthe lap you're taking. As in the first game, personality is everything. This is true not only in termsof voice acting, but also in how you treat opponents. The game has a few basicattitudes. If you block and attack characters too much, they'll remember andactively seek you out. If you help one or two of them, they'll become yourallies, warning you of danger or fending off attackers. In many ways, SSX Tricky is only an upgrade of the previous game.Admittedly, the additions don't look like enough to justify buying the game allover again. But the changes are deep enough to change quite a bit, and they'lldelight even fans who are tired of, or who mastered, the first game. Maybethat's the most impressive über-trick of them all. --Bob Andrews Pros: Reviews (145)
Although easy to learn, it is tough to master and incredibly addictive. The advanced courses are very challenging, and no matter how good you get, you always want to take 'just one more run' to pull off better tricks or beat your best race time. The game world is very realistic. You can ski off the course in search of a shortcut to the bottom, jump off cliffs looking for big air, grind on any surface (rails, fences, billboards...) and elbow your opponents in a race. There are traditional courses that look like a ski resort, but also courses through city streets (jump too high and you might hit a traffic light!), through untracked powder in Alaska, and an enormous terrain park. There are multiple characters to choose from (male and female), each with a different personality. My daughter actually enjoys spending time putting different outfits on her favorite characters before each race. I have also played SSX3, and there have been several reviews comparing the two. Here is my take: 1) Tricky is mode based- you navigate menus to select a course, choose racing or tricks, etc. SSX3 feels more like a day at the mountain, where you free ski over to a race, then to a halfpipe and so on. Which is better? It's really a matter of taste. 2) Tricky tries to build up rivalries between the characters. If you knock over an opponent, they develop animosity and gun for you in future races. Also, there is PG rated trash talk at the end of each race. I think the trash talking gets old (and repetitive) pretty quickly, but I enjoy the elbowing during the race, especially in two player mode :) 3) The music in SSX3 is more diverse, and you can customize your music as if you were carrying an MP3 player. As others have noted, SSX3 even seems to adjust the music to match your riding, with big crescendos when you land a jump. 4) I like the commentator in Tricky- he pumps things up. The commentator in SSX3 seems dull in comparison. 5) Tricky seems easier, especially for the novice. The first few courses are confidence builders, which is good for younger kids and adults who are only casual gamers, like myself. Also, tricky has a practice area where you can interactivley learn new tricks. 6) Tricky is about half the price You can't go wrong with either version. However, I'd say Tricky is better for the budget minded, younger kids or casual gamers, while SSX3 is probably better for teens, serious gamers or hardcore snowboarders.

Batman: Vengeance, starts out right. You are immediately thrust into play as Batman slides down a slippery slope with an explosion behind him. The player doesn't have a whole lot to do -- for the most part, Batman's going to make it regarless if Batsy slides to the left or right -- but it got me excited about the game. Batman's got a compelling plot, including Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze, led by the Joker (voiced by "I used to be Luke Skywalker" Mark Hamil). The Joker maneuvers Batman into release the right combination of chemicals in an effort to stop other villains. By manipulating Batman into these situations, he inadvertently mixes a dangerous concoction that threatens Gotham. Things look a bit different because the characters are rendered in three dimensions, which is different from Superman: Shadow of Apocalips. So the characters look similar, but they're not quite right. Batman has a multitude of tools at his disposal, including the Batmobile and the Batjet. Batman vaults around the city with his batgrapple, throws batarangs, and uses his cloak as a defense as well as a means of gliding from place to place. Which is important, because Batman fights on a lot of rooftops and ledges -- death from falling happened a lot. The game takes itself seriously. Joker, Harley, and their cronies play for keeps. They shoot machineguns, try to push you off ledges, and otherwise kill you. True to the cartoon, the bad guys fight dirty and it's up to Batman to use his formidable abilities to overcome his disadvantage -- ya know, not having a gun. Batman is well-rendered, but there were some graphic flaws. There is a "snap to" function that allows you to recenter the camera, facing the way Batman's facing. This is less of a good use of the camera as it is a lazy fix to a problem that is problematic for too many games. Unfortunately, it snaps so quickly that sometimes I became disoriented by the new angle. Additionally, the camera is an object and will bounce off walls, forcing itself literally inside Bat's head. Which looks weird and doesn't help the perspective if Batman is against a wall. Batman also has some clipping bugs. In at least two different cases, Batman froze in space after getting trapped on the corner of a three-dimensional object. Then he couldn't leave it and I had to start over. Batman: Vengeance only saves when you IT wants you to. You have to finish the board to get to that point, which makes for an either frustrating or easy experience, depending on your level of skill. By far the best part of the game is fighting my favorite villain, Mr. Freeze. Sure enough, Freeze cannot be fought in hand-to-hand combat (if you've ever seen Batman try, you'll understand) and it requires some crafty maneuvering. There are a multitude of mini-games that test your skill and your brains. Although none are particularly hard, they help break up the gameplay. There are puzzle games, the aforementioned Batmobile and Batjet games, and some other puzzles. This is good, because barring the unique villains (including Mr. Freeze's Eskimo chickies, Poison Ivy's root-men, and the Joker's mimes), there isn't too many bad guy types. The villains do, in typical movie fashion, stop shooting once Batman engages one of their comrades in melee, politely waiting until he goes down to resume firing. They also react to their surroundings, listening to noises, reacting to their allies socking one to Bats (they cheer), and falling off ledges. Yes, you can actually knock someone off a building and watch them plunge to their death. Now THAT'S Batman! Overall, Batman: Vengeance is an excellent balance of puzzles, action, and style. It was a great opportunity to return to the cartoon I enjoyed so much.

Amazon.com Review In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, players were introduced to the manual--amove that greatly revolutionized the series' gameplay. This installmentintroduces the revert, and while it isn't as significant an addition as themanual, it does add another layer to the already deep trick system. The gamefeatures solid graphics, but a level of detail was sacrificed in order to makethe game's levels so large. There are a few frame skips and polygon clips, butthese occasions are rare and do not overshadow the stellar gameplay. Career mode is as deep as ever, with eight objective-filled levels. In thissingle-player mode, players traverse their way through some brilliantly designedcourses to achieve high scores, find the letters to the word "skate," findhidden videotapes, and interact with level-specific objects. Two players canparticipate in the five multiplayer minigames, which include king of the hill, horse, and trick attack. Up to four players can join Internet or LAN gamesthrough the use of the PS2 Network Adapter or numerous USB devices. SupportedUSB Ethernet adapters include LinkSys EtherFast USB100TX, D-Link DSB-650TX, SMCEZNET-USB 2102, and SOHOware NUB100. Supported USB modems include Zoom FaxModem2985L, Pocket NetSurfer NMT00700, MultiTech MT5634ZBA, and ActiontecUSB56012-01CW. USB keyboards are also supported, enabling players to type trash online. We tested Internet play using the LinkSys and a DSL modem; the action was verysmooth with no noticeable lag. On its own, this is a top-shelf title, butconsidering its Internet capabilities, there's no reason for fans of sports, action, and platform games not to own Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. This gamewill satisfy them all. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Reviews (234)

written on February 12, 2003. I received this game as a Birthday gift around Christmas, 2001. I can sit around and play my World Cup Final Phase (including the acurate team rosters for all teams from W.C.Final Phase 2002). I created Senegal, and all of its players (+ uniforms, etc...). I updated Holland, and added missing players to other national squads. Don't get me wrong. I am plenty angry at the database organizational problems I encountered (tell me which programmer I can yell at *hmph*). But, what the heck. It gave me something to problem-solve! And the end result is: Football Playing Bliss! I have developed everything I want. For the record: FIFA 2003 doesn't even have a creation center and is not able to edit players, neither! FIFA 2002 is my adored game of choice for Football. (I also have "This is Football 2002", "FIFA 2003" and "Red Card 2002". I have played "Pro Evolution Soccer 2" on PS1 several times, I don't like it). From the reviews listed here, I've noticed that many people (who DIDN'T like fifa 2002) complained that the game is too easy. My suggestion to them is : Alter the difficulty in the options menus!... That's what the options are for! Make the referee strict! Play in the hardest mode! Damn. do it! Someone complained that the players are too small, and seem too far away. Answer: Change the camera! If you play with the ACTION camera, the players are close, and the action seems real (the faces of the players are even quite clear). Personally, I always play with the TV camera. That is my favorite (I gues it helps to have a 30 inch TV screen, as well). That's my 2 cents worth. I agree with almost everyone (in these reviews) that gave fifa 2002 4 or 5 stars.

Amazon.com Review Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 boasts a new game engine that delivers supercrisp graphic detail and realistic golf ball physics. With the new control options available using the Dual Shock 2's pressure-sensitive analog stick, players can feel the realism in every swing. Fade, draw, and spin shots finesse the golfer's pin approach. The enhancements should provide a refreshing upgrade to the traditional control configurations. Eye-popping visuals and realistic controls are caddied with rich layers of environmental and on-course sounds. Subtle announcer comments on your game's progress and player jaunts add that extra boost of realism that golf simulations demand. A strong roster of star golfers--each motion-captured into the game--is available, including Justin Leonard, Brad Faxon, Robert Damron, Stewart Cink, and Tiger Woods, among others. One to four players tee off on beautifully rendered Pebble Beach Golf Links courses such as the famed Spyglass Hill Golf Club and Poppy Hills Golf Course. --Eric Twelker Reviews (27)
The well-captured motion of Tiger is the only plus in this game, as the other features of the game remained below par: - graphics of the courses did not fully utilize PS2 capabilities and are easily beaten by the PS1 version from last year In summary, this title seems to have been rushed by EA to get something on the market, so it can go back to the store and I'll just pop in my PS1 PGA Tour Golf for some enjoyable play.
Tiger Woods golf for the PS2 is pretty solid. This was my first foray into the 'Tiger Woods' series of golf and I have to say I was somewhat surprised.I enjoyed the new swing meter (you use the analog stick to control the meter) and the graphics are very good. However, I felt like the accuracy of the shots (i.e. distance relative to club selection and weather situations) was somewhat questionable.I was also very disappointed in the fact that there are so few courses and players to select from. In all, this was an enjoyable game, but not as enjoyable as, say Links 2000 for the PC.Hopefully EA will rectify these problems for 2002.

Amazon.com Review You can play as any NFL team in a variety of modes: practice, tourney, exhibition, season, playoffs, franchise, fantasy, tutorial, and network (againstup to seven other players nationwide). The franchise mode is again one of thegame's strengths, as it offers a variety of scouting and free agency options, letting you customize your roster as a general manager based on the statisticsand financial demands of actual players. Now you can learn what the WashingtonRedskins already know--the salary cap is a cruel mistress. The player animations are again the star of the show. There are literally dozensof potential endings to any collision in NFL 2K2, from stumbling fiveyards after a shoestring tackle to spinning dizzily between two linebackers tosomersaulting through the air after stretching for a catch over the middle. And,although the tackles can be spectacular, the game doesn't betray its simulationroots by making them too extreme. These aren't torn from the comics pages, as insome games. Sega Sports has talked up its new passing system quite a bit, and it is bothchallenging and intriguing--perfect for the hard-core simulation expert.Unfortunately, the rest of us are left struggling to complete 5 to 10 passes agame. Essentially, the game asks players to expertly anticipate routes and timethe receiver's catch. This is no easy task in a fast-moving game such as this,as receivers routinely drop wide-open passes on the rare occasions they do getopen, and you'll find your primary receiver blanketed by two or more defensivebacks on most plays. The passing engine isn't overwhelmingly flawed, but averagegamers will need some serious time to overcome the Ravens-like pass defensethey'll face early on. The running game was the original NFL 2K's main weakness, and it remainsthe single biggest improvement over the evolution of the series. Sometimesrunning between the tackles in NFL 2K2 can be a tad too easy and runningoutside can be too challenging, but the game rewards players who see holesdevelop and are adept at cutbacks. It's the small details, though, that make NFL 2K2 the sports simulationtriumph that it is. The commentary--although still prone to calling turnoversincorrectly--is first rate, the on-field player dialogue is highly entertaining, and even the stadium music and crowd chants add to the atmosphere rather thanannoy. The game isn't necessarily worth an upgrade for people who already own NFL2K1, as the improvements aren't dramatic (unless updated rosters are yourmain concern). But for football fans who want one of the best-looking sportssimulations ever made--and who don't mind the initial frustration of lousyquarterback ratings--NFL 2K2 is a Hail Mary come true. --RiversJanssen --This text refers to theDreamcast version of thisgame. Kicking-Nfl 2k much better kicking
I dont understand these "actually play if you want to" games, where playing is optional. you can just sit there and let the game do all the work: THIS IS SO BAD. you can just put the controller down and let the game play by itself (except oh yeah, press the x button to start the play) no other genre of game could get away with this. these games are horrible. Having trouble winning? ok just change the difficulty RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME. Having trouble kicking field goals? ok, just switch to another player besides the kicker and let the computer do it. Having trouble running? then just dont touch the controller and let the computer do it. dont want to pick a play..ok, just let the computer do it Want to take a team through a season? sure but at the superbowl play another team...makes playing the game feel pointless. you should be locked into a team, and you should be forced to actually PLAY the game. manual is very very poor: advanced line moves...whats that? the manual doesn't say, I had to look it up online. commentary is sloppy. I sacked the qb with the same player 5 times and each time they said "first sack of the game"...also, the simple act of trying to use the same player each time is annoying. I hate this game.
