Amazon.com Review

Whether your video golfing ability classifies you as a tour-hardened proor weekend duffer, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 provides ample opportunityto refine and enhance your strengths. Gone is the swing power meter in earlierincarnations in favor of a new wrinkle from EA Sports--Total Precision Swing.Essentially, the onscreen golfer is your real-time power meter, as you now havethe ability to control his or her entire motion, from backswing tofollow-through. Power drives, insane-angle slices, fading hooks, and more canall be executed with the proper touch. And while the Total Precision Swing'slearning curve is steep, it does add new flavor to the game.

Among the new game modes are the Tiger Challenge and Speed Golf. In the TigerChallenge, you compete as Woods against a progression of 17 players--some PGATour players and some original EA Sports characters--to earn cash rewards andthe right to unlock hidden golfers. You can also unlock individual holes onTiger's Dream 18, a course designed by Woods himself. Speed Golf features a fastand furious race to the hole in which you can either compete by yourself orsplit-screen against another player. Money is earned in head-to-head competitionby finishing the hole first, and through bonuses for such things as teeing offfirst and hitting a longer drive than your opponent. Any money earned issubsequently drained from your opponent's total, creating all-out mayhem on thecourse. Other game modes offer stroke, match, and tournament play, skins, scenarios, and practice. Also, Play Now mode offers a helpful tutorial that youmust complete before moving on to further options.

Visually, the game's many courses and related elements depict a stunning,near-live experience. From the well-kept fairways and greens of Pebble Beach andthe TPC at Sawgrass to the otherworldly dazzle of Copperhead Canyon, the coursescome alive with rainy mists, murky fogs, and glowing sunsets. Also enhancing theexperience are crashing ocean waves, rippling lakes, swaying tree branches, andeven the occasional live animal should you knock a shot into the trees.--Larry White

Pros:

  • Wide variety of opponents in Tiger Challenge
  • Innovative Speed Golf competition
  • Stunning visuals
Con:
  • Analog swing control may take some getting used to

5-0 out of 5 stars I'M Number 1
I'm #1 starts the beginning of the 2002 Tiger Wood's experience. I was impressed with the graphics. The announcer in this game are David Feherity and Gary McCord. They make fun of water hazards sometimes. When you try to make the green sometimes, you hear the controller vibrating like your heart is beating. There is a Tiger Challenge mode where you play pros like Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Jesper Parnevik, Notah Begay III, and Brad Faxon. I have managed to beat all the players except for Super Tiger Woods. He is extremly difficult. There is also a scenarios mode where you have things you can do for gold, silver, and bronze. The speed mode is new. You play 18 holes as fast as possible. You can play a tournament with up to four players so you can invite friends to play. Over all I love this game and can't wait to see how they improve this flawless game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but not perfect
This game is truely an enjoyable experience.I had just as much fun playing this as I did 10 years ago playing PGA Tour II for genesis. The graffics are un-real, and the courses are equally as spectacular, especially those which are imaginary. The game play is quite realistic. For example, the way the shot is affected by different lies is extremely relatable to real life golf.Although 2003 is coming out in only a month, I will be buying this game this afternoon, because it infected me with immediate addiction. The only two flaws I found in the game were that in Tournament mode, you only play two rounds rather than four. Also, the game became very easy. The second day I played the game I shot 57 for 18 holes. But it is still definitley a wise buy for any golf or video game golf lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must buy for golf fans
If you enjoy golf video games, this is a must have. The controller scheme is different from any I have played before but I find it a little easier to manipulate than the 3-button press thing. It is especially effective for chipping. When you first start the game has a tutorial mode that is really good at getting you going quickly. The load times aren't too bad.

The announcers are really well done and any golf fan will recognize the voices. There are enough different phrases that they don't repeat too often. The comments are almost always on target and haven't gotten annoying yet.

Besides playing normal golf games (stroke, match, and skins) there is speed golf and what are called Scenarios. You can think of scenarios like mini-games for golf. You go out and do things like sand saves, hard putts, play 4 holes, or try to catch someone in match play from 2 back in 5 holes. This is great if you don't feel like playing an entire round, or if you just want a little more after a round.

Each round you play, you win money that you use to improve your golfer. After each round, you can use the money to improve the attributes of your golfer. You can improve Power, Approach, Putting, Spin, and others. The game also keeps track of parts of your game like your average score, earnings, the number of eagles you've made, and that kind of thing.

On the minus side, the golfer's models don't look much like the real golfers, especially in the face.I have only unlocked 7 so far but some of the guys don't look much like the real golfers.(Who is the guy they modelled for Stuart Appleby?)As far as the menus and interface goes, it is a little confusing to start a game for anything besides the Tiger Challenge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Golf Sim for Anyone
When it comes to sports games, there are two camps--those who want a pure simulation game that is completely realistic, and those who want a pick-up-and-play arcade game with crazy moves and unrealistic physics. EA Sports usually makes games that appeal to the former group, but I think Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 appeals to both sides. This game can be as simple or as deep as you want it to be. There are plenty of options. There is a great single player career mode, where you play against pros for money to build your golfer's attributes. You can also get monney by playing through special scenarios, like shooting as low a score as possible on three par 5 holes.

There are also some great two-to-four-player options. You can play a straight golf game, a skins game or the new speed golf, where you actually have to run from where you hit the ball to where it lands.

I think what I like most about this game is its innovative controls. Unlike most golf games where you just press a button a couple of times to swing the club, these controls actually simulate a real swing. You pull back on either analog stick to pull the club back, then press it forward to swing. You can control the distance by how far you pull back on the analog stick. You can also make the ball fade or draw by pulling the stick back at an angle. These controls really set the game apart from the other golf games out there.

My only complaint about the game is that while the 2002 version of this game has a lot more courses and options than the 2001 version, the first game had better gameplay. In the 2001 version, you could choose where you wanted to hit the ball, then there would be a meter showing you how far back you had to pull. In this game, it will tell you to swing a certain percentage and leave you to guess how far to pull back. Also, in the first game you could actually see the slope of the green to determine where to aim your putt. In this game you have to rely on a caddy tip that will tell you to aim a certain length right or left or short or long. Not too helpful if you have no way of measuring the distance on the green. These gameplay "improvements" can make for some very frustrating times.

Overall, however, this game can be pretty fun. It's even better if you have a friend or two to play against. Sitting around waiting for a computer-controller golfer to play can get boring after awhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiger Woods
This game is great.I have been playing PGA games since the Sega days. This one is by far the best out.The challenges are great. Its more than just hitting the ball and playing a round. the concept of buying attributes is unique. The more/better you play the more money you earn the better your golfer becomes. ... Amazon.com Review

EA Sports claims the rights to combine the two biggest names in the golf world into a single golf simulation series title: Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Rolling into the 2001 edition on the PlayStation2, the gameplay is now up to par with the quality of licensees.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 boasts a new game engine that delivers supercrisp graphic detail and realistic golf ball physics. With the new control options available using the Dual Shock 2's pressure-sensitive analog stick, players can feel the realism in every swing. Fade, draw, and spin shots finesse the golfer's pin approach. The enhancements should provide a refreshing upgrade to the traditional control configurations. Eye-popping visuals and realistic controls are caddied with rich layers of environmental and on-course sounds. Subtle announcer comments on your game's progress and player jaunts add that extra boost of realism that golf simulations demand.

A strong roster of star golfers--each motion-captured into the game--is available, including Justin Leonard, Brad Faxon, Robert Damron, Stewart Cink, and Tiger Woods, among others. One to four players tee off on beautifully rendered Pebble Beach Golf Links courses such as the famed Spyglass Hill Golf Club and Poppy Hills Golf Course. --Eric Twelker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This is a good game it has three golf courses pebble beach, poopy hills and spyglass hill there are so many ways to hit the ball its so good. You can play 6 different kinds of shots, and it has greatg graghics. there are about 5 or 6 diff. types of games - skins, match, tourny, stroke, practice, and play now mode which is a random games that the computer picks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not up to PS2 standards
After thoroughly enjoying some of EA's other sport titles, Tiger Woods golf left me completely unimpressed and disappointed.

The well-captured motion of Tiger is the only plus in this game, as the other features of the game remained below par:

- graphics of the courses did not fully utilize PS2 capabilities and are easily beaten by the PS1 version from last year
- accuracy of play in terms of predictable distance and ballflight is lacking, even though the analog stick seems to give more control
- variety of courses is unacceptable for a PS2 title
- overall playability in terms of time to play a round of golf and enjoyment derived from it is rather poor (you spend more time waiting for something to load than play and don't really get rewarded for your wait).

In summary, this title seems to have been rushed by EA to get something on the market, so it can go back to the store and I'll just pop in my PS1 PGA Tour Golf for some enjoyable play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad start...
Ever since the introduction of the Playstation to the world of video gaming, I've been searching for a console golf game that would rival the fun and satisfaction I had playing PGA Golf II and III for the old Sega Genesis.Sad to say I've been greatly disappointed thus far.

Tiger Woods golf for the PS2 is pretty solid. This was my first foray into the 'Tiger Woods' series of golf and I have to say I was somewhat surprised.I enjoyed the new swing meter (you use the analog stick to control the meter) and the graphics are very good. However, I felt like the accuracy of the shots (i.e. distance relative to club selection and weather situations) was somewhat questionable.I was also very disappointed in the fact that there are so few courses and players to select from.

In all, this was an enjoyable game, but not as enjoyable as, say Links 2000 for the PC.Hopefully EA will rectify these problems for 2002.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Golf Game.Best I have ever played.
One thing that has been overlooked by most reviewers is the speed of play. This game is fast. Even with the 8 to 10 second load time each hole, I can still play 18 holes in 20 min. This makes the game very addicting.Things to fix on TW2002: 1.Green grids when you are not on the fringe.2.Hole overviews that actually show you a usefull view.3.More stats. Stats add to replay value. The only tracked stats are not course dependent nor do they depend on what tees you play from.It tracks Longest drive, longest putt, fairways and greens in regulation, number of putts, score, birdies, eagles, hole in one, and tour winnings. The tour is a lot of fun (requires 12 rounds of golf, so it will take a while). The game can be challenging even after you master it.CPU Tiger can shoot anywhere from 62 to 70.Depending on how your swing on the analog stick is(it varies from day to day just like a real golf swing) you can shoot as low as 55(I even hit one OB on Pebble Beach #18), or easily get into trouble and shoot 70 with super Tiger.Tiger does hit the ball extremely far, so it can be more challenging to use the other golfers(who also hit the ball 350 on occasion by pushing up during swing)More courses and pros would be nice too.Chiping is tricky till you get the hang of it. Good features: putting(specifically the way you read the green) and the swing control. It relies less on timing and more on feel, which to me is more comparible to a real swing.Go buy this game, I have had it for three months and I still play at least one round a day.You can always try and improve your score, just like real golf. The wind and analog stick always keep the game challenging and keep you on your toes.Even after unlocking red shirt Tiger, it is challenging to try and stop the ball on the greens off the tee on the shorter par fours.

1-0 out of 5 stars They can definitly do better
3 courses...thats all.Not enough options for OTHER golfers.I played the Tiger Pga for PS1, and I like that one.But this one was just not enough for me. The fact that I was REQUIRED to use the analog didnt appeal to me.I prefer to use the X button to hit the ball. The graphics were great, but in the end I was very disappointed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NBA Live 2002
NBA Live 2002 is a pretty good installment of the 10 year series. It plays similar to 2001 but with some added bonuses like a decent Franchise mode (just like Madden 2002) that you one have to be careful about because all NBA league regulations with the Salary Cap count here so be careful on who you sign because it could hurt you later! And in this mode, after each season, there is also a draft which is pretty cool as well.

Also, vast improvements have been made in the game as well. It's a lot easier to hit alley oops now unlike 2001 where the ball would go 10' above the intended player's head. The annouce team is less annoying and they use a lot of player's nicknames (ex: Kevin Garnett is called KG and Michael Olawakhandi is called the Candy Man). Rebounding is no longer impossible! That was such a problem in 2001 (unless you actually had a decent rebounder or you made one). And now the computer actually plays against you unlike in the past all you had to do was head fake until they jumped and then you could just blow them outta the water. And of course Michael Jordan that is playable on a Season or Franchise mode.

There were some drawbacks too. The game got a little slower in pace. Not by much but you can tell that it got a little slower. Also, when you trade for players, make sure that you check each player on your team because I noticed that the computer no longer gives your new player a new number. Thank goodness I noticed that because at one point, I had 3 Number 21's on my team. Another thing that I liked better was that actual still pictures were used for each player (ex Player of the Game) and now the computerized image is substituted for that.

I still think that it's a great game but if you're looking for a faster pace, more challenging game, check out NBA 2K2 or NBA 2K3 because you'll be surprised how challenging those 2 are. Either way it goes, you'll be picking a quality NBA game.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game is almost there
I'm a fan of the NBA Live franchise, this game comes realy close to it, but it's not there yet.the graphics are realy good, but there needs to be more control. One the best things is that Michael Jordan is back on a team that you can use in a Franchise Mode!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars why no slam dunk contest & assesories?
De game would have been more tyte if u put an slam dunk contest and you should've added more assesories to the create player section. If you make a 2004 you should add this all.

3-0 out of 5 stars Why no dunk contest?
I would have gave it an 5, but it had no slam dunk contest. It should've. It would've made the game more tyte. And you should add more assesories to the create player section.

1-0 out of 5 stars What can I say...umm...no?
It's like this...you run, you dunk, you win. The other team's IQ is that of a small rodent. This game is SO easy. They give you the ball! Are you stupid? No? Then steer clear of this game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!
This game is very good. The graphics are pretty good and the music is also. The controls are easy and there are so many tracks to choose from! This game is a must for first-time gamers who don't like really bloody games.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun to play
I would have given this game 5 stars but it didn't have the Road Runner and it could have better graphics. Still my 4 year old son loves it and we enjoy playing it a lot. In easy mode is really easy and even he can win races. I like it because is not one of thos impossible to play games with 900 levels of which unless you are a big time gamer you'll only get to see 2 of them.

2-0 out of 5 stars My kids thought it was OK but .....
I thought it [stunk].How can a game that has to be played on a 250 dollar machine be so far behind with graphics?OK if you are 6 years old.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too hard to control
I find this game to be very frustrating. The slightest touch of the controller sends the characters flying off the race track.I tried it with a steering wheel with no better results.I can't do it, let alone my 5 year old.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading on the characters
...I saw it on amazon and wanted it because I am a huge fan of Taz and saw that he was in the game. But when my wife and I played it, neither of us could find Taz and I was very disappointed with that finding.I still enjoy the game, but on the other hand, I am upset that they mentioned Taz being in the game, and he wasn't. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Hitting?
The hitting interface in this game is awful. When the computer throws fastballs up in the corner or anywhere besides the target, then you can't hit it. What I do is wait for a pitch to come down the middle and swing the bat. I wish I could get my money back for this piece of trash. I mean, how fun is a game where you can't hit the ball??? Akklaim needs some help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!!!
This game stinks. When you think you have a double they throw it in to the second base man and usually get you out.A lot of times when the ball is like ten yards down they usually make the catch unbelieveable!! this game is not worth the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!!YOU'LL BE SORRY!!!!!!
I want that hour of my life back!!!It is darn near impossible to get base hits, let alone home runs!To top it all, I took a no-hitter to the bottom of the 9th and on the last pitch the game broke it up!!! DON'T BUY IT!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is the most realistic Baseball game I have ever owned. The Franchise mode is amazing. The players look realistic and it really looks like you are playing baseball. There are a few problems. If you are in the lead the ather team comes back in the next few innings, so it is extremely hard to win.If you want a relistic baseball game then this is the one for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars ASB 03 is a Great Game
I for one was amazed with the game play of ASB 03.Since I am a huge baseball fan and like to see in depth material, this game offers it to u.The franchise mode is great as it always is with ASB.I recomend anyone who likes baseball to buy this game. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a football game with smooth flow and realistic action, Sega Sports' NCAA College Football 2K3 will certainly fit the bill. The action here is evenly paced and straightforward--no flashy 10-foot leaps, no stiff arms that knock the defender into the rotunda--and the talent level is definitely collegiate.

A working knowledge of college playbooks can be very helpful as the sets here are often highly complex. The producers have added a slew of subtle but significant features to simulate the game's nuances as well: a quarterback's accuracy greatly improves when his feet are set; you can totally hide your play-calling by holding down the X button and scrolling through decoy plays; you can anticipate using a spin move on offense by hitting the O button before contact; and you can use the analog sticks (as opposed to the directional buttons) to run with the ball (and in maximum passing mode, you can add zip or a lob touch while also adjusting throws in the air).

The graphics--including players, stadiums, the ESPN-style presentation, and game intro--are all top-notch. With 117 Division I-A teams at your disposal, devoted players can play full seasons (complete with rankings and bowl selections) or, in legacy mode, multiple seasons, going so far as recruiting high schoolers and running spring drills. The major drawback here is the no-name announcing team, a flat-out terrible crew offering an endless stream of stupid jokes and poor analysis. But you'll have the sound off and the stereo spinning anyway. --Marc Greilsamer

Pros:

  • Smooth, realistic game flow
  • Top-notch graphics and visual presentation
  • Attention to game action's nuances

Cons:

  • Game announcers are silly and ill-informed
  • Injury information is erratic

5-0 out of 5 stars 14-year old gamer
This game has graet gamplay and graphics.
-legasy mode is great. It fun to try recrut the best high school and junior college players. And compeat for national championship. (Go michigan State)
-create school and player options are alot of fun. (like makeing a 7' 400 pound wide reciever that is the fastest player in college football)
If you want the best college football ever buy this game.
And if you want the best pro footballgame get "NFL 2K3" by sega

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
NCAA College Football 2k3 is a good game. I would say it's a great game but it has some bad points. First the A.I. it you put the A.I. on walk-on you will win by 30 points almost everytime but then when you put it on starter for a challenge it's very hard to win and isn't very fun becuase you have to try so hard to win. If you want a real challenge play a friend. They plays are great but it will take a while to get use to the passing and without a training mode it doesn't really teach you how. As for running the running is great it's very easy. Create a school it really great becuase you can coach them up to 30 seasons. Besides for those bad points. This game is really fun if you can get used to the bad points. EA College Football 2003 is going to offer you a more rewarding experience butthe price of NCAA College football 2k3 can't be beat!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Has its good points, too
A lot of people are saying they like the EA version of college football better. I am left wondering what it is they like about having absolutely ZERO control of what happens on defense and having the AI ALWAYS complete it's pass on third-and-thirty, QB rolling out one way, backwards, turning and hurling (without looking) and completing a pass to a man 30 yards away who is triple-covered. That repetetive scenario has cost me quite a few controllers as I smash them into little pieces every time that happens.
This game at least lets you PLAY defense. Choose a linebacker, blitz around the OT, and score a sack with far more likelihood than with EA. EA: can you ever GET sack when controlling a defender? Maybe once a season?
EA's offense is better, graphics are better, but gameplay is much better here with 2k3.
People critical of the Dynasty mode ("Legacy mode" here) are right to be critical. The "legacy" mode is average, but you can't change schools: you are stuck with the one you chose to start with. This is disappointing.
Recruiting is pretty cool, though not of the same depth as EA. Still, if you WIN, you stand a better chance of securing good recruits. Players you go after will be swayed by your good W/L record. I'd really like to see Sega go into depth here, as I think recruiting is one of the best parts of sim sports games.
Would like to see more of a "box score"-type post-game stats presentation.
Also, would like to be able to call more running plays. The choices are fairly limited, and no chance to hand off the ball to a handful of different players throughout any one game.
One final complaint: My team up by plenty with a minute or so left on the game clock. The opposition is on the 3-yard line, heading in to score, and, on fourth down, PUNTS! Doesn't go for a field goal or touchdown, but PUNTS!! What the heck is THAT?? Ha! That has GOT to be ironed out by 2k4.
I know I've pointed out the flaws here and given it a 4-star rating, but I think the game is a better game than EA. 989 Sports doesn't even factor into the equation. I'm like everybody who isn't just posting to be "loyal" (which really means "stubbornly stupid") I would like to see the best of what BOTH EA and Sega have rolled into one game. Until that happens, I'll stick with Sega, for it's far better gameplay. Great graphics are nice (EA) but if the gameplay is overly (and unnecessarily) frustrating, it's just not fun to play. Gameplay alone gives this one the nod over its competitors. They just had better improve certain aspects of this version for next year's 2K4.

4-0 out of 5 stars BAD
This is a bad game.It is extremely horrible. Sega is on its way out while EA is the best so but NCAA Football 2003. Thats what I am doing.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2K3 isn't Bad at all
I am just posting, because I disagree with most peoples comments. There isn't a "dynasty", but the is a "Legacy" mode, which is the same.I Love EA Sports, but this is a better game.I am in year 2009 as we speak.Secondly Creating a school is Great.I made a Red Neck Team called the Birmingham Buckhunters w/ Camo Uniforms, Hunter Orange Helmets with Deer Logos and a Tree Mascot playing there games in the middle of nowhere.I also Made North Central Louisiana Nutra Rats playing there home games in Calhoun, LA @ Super Bee Speedway. The only landmark there.Just poking fun of the Red Neck Sub culture. Most of the Reviews are inaccurate.I have played both.2K3 doesn't have the Same play calling format as EA which might make a little challeging. In Fact as Bowls go, I have one the Fiesta, Rose & Sugar Bowl the last three seasons. The even have the lesser know bowls Like Humanitarian, Independence & Silicon Valley. If you have any complaints, complain the don't have the Bayou Classic.Louisiana Tech 2002 - 2009 2K3 National Champs @ my house.Just my 2 cents ... 1-0 out of 5 stars wat the?
why is it in the ps2 section if u cant put cds in it?

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice.
This game system organizer is nice. The only problem is that is doesn't hold 2-4 game cds like "The Legend of Dragoon". But other than that its great.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good product
I would recomend this product to anyone looking for a place to store their SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation, N64, or Dreamcast games. Its storage areas will not be able to hold any other systm's games. If you need something to hold your PS2, GameCube, or XBox games, buy a DVD holder.

3-0 out of 5 stars It does not hold DVD cases.
I just received my Game System Organizer.Since it is under the heading of Playstation 2 one would think that it will hold DVD cases, either movies or Playstation 2.It does not.It only holds standard CD jewel cases and has inserts for N-...-4 and Genesis cartridges.I kept mine ... I decided to use it for my PSX and Dreamcast games. But if you are looking for a DVD case holder for PS2 games, do not buy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Great
What could be worse that having all your PS 2 stuff unorganized. Well getthis it keeps it all neet. It also mathes the colour of the PS 2. Whatcould be neeter. So I suggest that you get, I know I am. ... Read more
