Amazon.com Review Among the new game modes are the Tiger Challenge and Speed Golf. In the TigerChallenge, you compete as Woods against a progression of 17 players--some PGATour players and some original EA Sports characters--to earn cash rewards andthe right to unlock hidden golfers. You can also unlock individual holes onTiger's Dream 18, a course designed by Woods himself. Speed Golf features a fastand furious race to the hole in which you can either compete by yourself orsplit-screen against another player. Money is earned in head-to-head competitionby finishing the hole first, and through bonuses for such things as teeing offfirst and hitting a longer drive than your opponent. Any money earned issubsequently drained from your opponent's total, creating all-out mayhem on thecourse. Other game modes offer stroke, match, and tournament play, skins, scenarios, and practice. Also, Play Now mode offers a helpful tutorial that youmust complete before moving on to further options. Visually, the game's many courses and related elements depict a stunning,near-live experience. From the well-kept fairways and greens of Pebble Beach andthe TPC at Sawgrass to the otherworldly dazzle of Copperhead Canyon, the coursescome alive with rainy mists, murky fogs, and glowing sunsets. Also enhancing theexperience are crashing ocean waves, rippling lakes, swaying tree branches, andeven the occasional live animal should you knock a shot into the trees.--Larry White Pros: Reviews (44)
The announcers are really well done and any golf fan will recognize the voices. There are enough different phrases that they don't repeat too often. The comments are almost always on target and haven't gotten annoying yet. Besides playing normal golf games (stroke, match, and skins) there is speed golf and what are called Scenarios. You can think of scenarios like mini-games for golf. You go out and do things like sand saves, hard putts, play 4 holes, or try to catch someone in match play from 2 back in 5 holes. This is great if you don't feel like playing an entire round, or if you just want a little more after a round. Each round you play, you win money that you use to improve your golfer. After each round, you can use the money to improve the attributes of your golfer. You can improve Power, Approach, Putting, Spin, and others. The game also keeps track of parts of your game like your average score, earnings, the number of eagles you've made, and that kind of thing. On the minus side, the golfer's models don't look much like the real golfers, especially in the face.I have only unlocked 7 so far but some of the guys don't look much like the real golfers.(Who is the guy they modelled for Stuart Appleby?)As far as the menus and interface goes, it is a little confusing to start a game for anything besides the Tiger Challenge.
There are also some great two-to-four-player options. You can play a straight golf game, a skins game or the new speed golf, where you actually have to run from where you hit the ball to where it lands. I think what I like most about this game is its innovative controls. Unlike most golf games where you just press a button a couple of times to swing the club, these controls actually simulate a real swing. You pull back on either analog stick to pull the club back, then press it forward to swing. You can control the distance by how far you pull back on the analog stick. You can also make the ball fade or draw by pulling the stick back at an angle. These controls really set the game apart from the other golf games out there. My only complaint about the game is that while the 2002 version of this game has a lot more courses and options than the 2001 version, the first game had better gameplay. In the 2001 version, you could choose where you wanted to hit the ball, then there would be a meter showing you how far back you had to pull. In this game, it will tell you to swing a certain percentage and leave you to guess how far to pull back. Also, in the first game you could actually see the slope of the green to determine where to aim your putt. In this game you have to rely on a caddy tip that will tell you to aim a certain length right or left or short or long. Not too helpful if you have no way of measuring the distance on the green. These gameplay "improvements" can make for some very frustrating times. Overall, however, this game can be pretty fun. It's even better if you have a friend or two to play against. Sitting around waiting for a computer-controller golfer to play can get boring after awhile.

Amazon.com Review Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 boasts a new game engine that delivers supercrisp graphic detail and realistic golf ball physics. With the new control options available using the Dual Shock 2's pressure-sensitive analog stick, players can feel the realism in every swing. Fade, draw, and spin shots finesse the golfer's pin approach. The enhancements should provide a refreshing upgrade to the traditional control configurations. Eye-popping visuals and realistic controls are caddied with rich layers of environmental and on-course sounds. Subtle announcer comments on your game's progress and player jaunts add that extra boost of realism that golf simulations demand. A strong roster of star golfers--each motion-captured into the game--is available, including Justin Leonard, Brad Faxon, Robert Damron, Stewart Cink, and Tiger Woods, among others. One to four players tee off on beautifully rendered Pebble Beach Golf Links courses such as the famed Spyglass Hill Golf Club and Poppy Hills Golf Course. --Eric Twelker Reviews (27)
The well-captured motion of Tiger is the only plus in this game, as the other features of the game remained below par: - graphics of the courses did not fully utilize PS2 capabilities and are easily beaten by the PS1 version from last year In summary, this title seems to have been rushed by EA to get something on the market, so it can go back to the store and I'll just pop in my PS1 PGA Tour Golf for some enjoyable play.
Tiger Woods golf for the PS2 is pretty solid. This was my first foray into the 'Tiger Woods' series of golf and I have to say I was somewhat surprised.I enjoyed the new swing meter (you use the analog stick to control the meter) and the graphics are very good. However, I felt like the accuracy of the shots (i.e. distance relative to club selection and weather situations) was somewhat questionable.I was also very disappointed in the fact that there are so few courses and players to select from. In all, this was an enjoyable game, but not as enjoyable as, say Links 2000 for the PC.Hopefully EA will rectify these problems for 2002.

Also, vast improvements have been made in the game as well. It's a lot easier to hit alley oops now unlike 2001 where the ball would go 10' above the intended player's head. The annouce team is less annoying and they use a lot of player's nicknames (ex: Kevin Garnett is called KG and Michael Olawakhandi is called the Candy Man). Rebounding is no longer impossible! That was such a problem in 2001 (unless you actually had a decent rebounder or you made one). And now the computer actually plays against you unlike in the past all you had to do was head fake until they jumped and then you could just blow them outta the water. And of course Michael Jordan that is playable on a Season or Franchise mode. There were some drawbacks too. The game got a little slower in pace. Not by much but you can tell that it got a little slower. Also, when you trade for players, make sure that you check each player on your team because I noticed that the computer no longer gives your new player a new number. Thank goodness I noticed that because at one point, I had 3 Number 21's on my team. Another thing that I liked better was that actual still pictures were used for each player (ex Player of the Game) and now the computerized image is substituted for that. I still think that it's a great game but if you're looking for a faster pace, more challenging game, check out NBA 2K2 or NBA 2K3 because you'll be surprised how challenging those 2 are. Either way it goes, you'll be picking a quality NBA game.

Amazon.com Review A working knowledge of college playbooks can be very helpful as the sets here are often highly complex. The producers have added a slew of subtle but significant features to simulate the game's nuances as well: a quarterback's accuracy greatly improves when his feet are set; you can totally hide your play-calling by holding down the X button and scrolling through decoy plays; you can anticipate using a spin move on offense by hitting the O button before contact; and you can use the analog sticks (as opposed to the directional buttons) to run with the ball (and in maximum passing mode, you can add zip or a lob touch while also adjusting throws in the air). The graphics--including players, stadiums, the ESPN-style presentation, and game intro--are all top-notch. With 117 Division I-A teams at your disposal, devoted players can play full seasons (complete with rankings and bowl selections) or, in legacy mode, multiple seasons, going so far as recruiting high schoolers and running spring drills. The major drawback here is the no-name announcing team, a flat-out terrible crew offering an endless stream of stupid jokes and poor analysis. But you'll have the sound off and the stereo spinning anyway. --Marc Greilsamer Pros: Cons: Reviews (17)
