Amazon.com Review Tricky removes two characters from the previous game and adds five newones. It adds two new race locations to the already beefed-up World Circuit(Garibaldi and Alaska). The developers also added features to the older tracks, effectively making them new again. Tricky improves the graphics a bit andrefines the controls. The game even tweaks the basic gameplay by letting youupgrade your boarder's stats in races, but also forcing you to attempt andmaster the showoff mode. And EA improved the challenge by evening out thelearning curve. SSX tended to be a cakewalk until the later races in eachset, but this time your rivals get more intense and aggressive depending uponthe lap you're taking. As in the first game, personality is everything. This is true not only in termsof voice acting, but also in how you treat opponents. The game has a few basicattitudes. If you block and attack characters too much, they'll remember andactively seek you out. If you help one or two of them, they'll become yourallies, warning you of danger or fending off attackers. In many ways, SSX Tricky is only an upgrade of the previous game.Admittedly, the additions don't look like enough to justify buying the game allover again. But the changes are deep enough to change quite a bit, and they'lldelight even fans who are tired of, or who mastered, the first game. Maybethat's the most impressive über-trick of them all. --Bob Andrews Pros: Reviews (145)
Although easy to learn, it is tough to master and incredibly addictive. The advanced courses are very challenging, and no matter how good you get, you always want to take 'just one more run' to pull off better tricks or beat your best race time. The game world is very realistic. You can ski off the course in search of a shortcut to the bottom, jump off cliffs looking for big air, grind on any surface (rails, fences, billboards...) and elbow your opponents in a race. There are traditional courses that look like a ski resort, but also courses through city streets (jump too high and you might hit a traffic light!), through untracked powder in Alaska, and an enormous terrain park. There are multiple characters to choose from (male and female), each with a different personality. My daughter actually enjoys spending time putting different outfits on her favorite characters before each race. I have also played SSX3, and there have been several reviews comparing the two. Here is my take: 1) Tricky is mode based- you navigate menus to select a course, choose racing or tricks, etc. SSX3 feels more like a day at the mountain, where you free ski over to a race, then to a halfpipe and so on. Which is better? It's really a matter of taste. 2) Tricky tries to build up rivalries between the characters. If you knock over an opponent, they develop animosity and gun for you in future races. Also, there is PG rated trash talk at the end of each race. I think the trash talking gets old (and repetitive) pretty quickly, but I enjoy the elbowing during the race, especially in two player mode :) 3) The music in SSX3 is more diverse, and you can customize your music as if you were carrying an MP3 player. As others have noted, SSX3 even seems to adjust the music to match your riding, with big crescendos when you land a jump. 4) I like the commentator in Tricky- he pumps things up. The commentator in SSX3 seems dull in comparison. 5) Tricky seems easier, especially for the novice. The first few courses are confidence builders, which is good for younger kids and adults who are only casual gamers, like myself. Also, tricky has a practice area where you can interactivley learn new tricks. 6) Tricky is about half the price You can't go wrong with either version. However, I'd say Tricky is better for the budget minded, younger kids or casual gamers, while SSX3 is probably better for teens, serious gamers or hardcore snowboarders.

Amazon.com Review In Street Fighter EX3, players will be able to take advantage of a newsystem that allows character switching at any time throughout the battle. Notonly will you be able to swap at will, but your dynamic duo also will havedouble-teaming tag combos to enhance an opponent's agony. This means that gamerswill face three other opponents, and have four incredibly detailed fightersbattling it out on screen at any one time in the ultimate handicap match. Takethem out, and one might ask to join as your sidekick. Form a stable of four, andall of you can take your turn kicking Bison's tail, as well as that of any ofthe other famous Street Fighter characters in the game. The control is predictable, but that's what fans want... nay, crave. Supercombos, dizzies, and a number of other staple Street Fighter combos arehere and look incredible. Lighting effects are much more mature: the animatedsparks fly, and the pyrotechnics flame up all over the place. Character modelshave come a long way since the days of the first blocky Street Fighter EXgame. Although they still lack necks, these brawlers are seamless and welldefined. Their victorious poses rival any graphics that previously have beenseen on a console. Not everything is peaches 'n' cream with EX3, however. The endings of theEX series always have been a bit lacking: all you get in EX3 is afrozen frame with text; then, while the credits roll, a little consolationprize: over 10 enemies onscreen at once, all wanting to put the boots to you. This isn't the "true" ending we'd hoped for, but it's a nice gesture (and itshows off the system's power). Capcom is doing everything it can to make Street Fighter EX3 the fightinggame of choice for the PlayStation2; but, with Namco's Tekken TagTournament set to hit the market at the same time, it'll be a tough sell.Still, this is a Street Fighter game, and that alone justifies at least aplay. --Todd Mowatt Pros: Reviews (50)

Amazon.com Review Parents--and anyone else interested in a game that's a little more sociallyredeeming than some of the current fare--take note: Dynasty Warriors 3 isloosely based on remarkable Chinese legends. The violence is well-done andsubtle, and playing this game could actually cause your kid to pick up a book(something other than a strategy guide). Here's what's different: Here's what stayed the same (some of which probably should have changed): Reviews (111)
Again, you choose a legendary warrior of China's Three Kingdoms period. The cast is expanded to include a number of other characters. There are also a number of other stages, which just increase the variety of the game. The same basic formula from Dynasty Warriors 2 is present. You basically run around an ancient Chinese battleground and kill enemy soldiers and officers. You cant toy with perfection too much can you? The old stages have been revamped and are, in some cases, radically different then their predecessors. The graphics are a stepup in Dynasty Warriors 3. While Dynasty Warriors 2 had very good graphics, it had a number of glitches that could be really annoying, such as weaponry going through solid stone when you move. KOEI cut down on these glitches in a major fashion, though truth be told, there are still some present. This is a fantastic game and is highly addictive. Even the music is awesome, a heavy metal mix that somehow goes so well with brutally killing hundreds of Chinese warriors. Bulk up your favorite warrior and wipe out as many enemies as you can... just wait and see what happens!

Amazon.com Review Like the Wipeout and Extreme G games, Kinetica featuresfuturistic car designs, a bumping techno soundtrack, and racetracks that defythe laws of physics and logic. In the world of Kinetica, you don't merelyrace in cars, you become a car. You race wearing one of several specialsuits that feature souped-up wheels and engines, and choose from a variety ofdrivers. Each combination of suit and driver performs differently and withstandsvarying amounts of damage. In order to finish in a decent place, your racer mustlocate power-ups and perform stunts in the air and on the ground. Successfullycompleting a stunt will increase your speed boosts. It's just as important foryou to learn the many alternate routes each track offers. Every other racer isout to get you and will try to smash or disable you in a variety of ways. Once racing begins, Kinetica crashes and burns. The racing is blindinglyfast, which makes it very hard to concentrate on performing the trickier stunts.Often you can't see far into the distance, which leads to frequent crashes intowalls and other obstacles. You can easily fall completely off a track because ofthe overly frantic action. The awkward track design and the number of challengesyou face each moment severely limits the fun factor for players. The game alsoexperiences some occasionally drastic slowdowns when more than two racers areonscreen at once. Kinetica's original gameplay ideas should have stayedin the shop for more fine tuning. --Mark Brooks Pros: Features Reviews (15)
The game feastures full body suits, that have wheels on the hand and feet, which race you through a futuristic worlds of ups and downs. Through the entire expierience, you are never completely sure which way is up, since you are constantly shooting up, and along side walls. The best feature of the game is the boost system, which ties directly to the trick system. Doing tricks is an amazong display of twists, turn and lights. You can do flips, spins, both at the same time, and many other arial acrobatic tricks. After preforming these great acrobatic feats, you earn boos which makes you move MUCH faster. So you may say, why not a four star rating. There is only one gripe i have about this game, and it is a problem that can be the ultimate downfall of many games. The game is just too short, iwas able to beat it in a solid two hours of gameplay, which is a less than inspiring statistic. If kinetica would have been made just a bit longer, i think it would have been a five star game. Thats not to say that the short time you are playing is not exciting quite the opposite actually. If you have a lot of freind who can't get enough racing games, then this is the perfect multiplayer delight, and the game is even fun repeating the career several times, well worth the measley 5 to 10 dollars for the speed nut!
So if you like flashy stunts, fast non-combat racing, upbeat music, and fast racing, this game is one you should check out.I only wish it was 4 players, it still rocks though.

Batman: Vengeance, starts out right. You are immediately thrust into play as Batman slides down a slippery slope with an explosion behind him. The player doesn't have a whole lot to do -- for the most part, Batman's going to make it regarless if Batsy slides to the left or right -- but it got me excited about the game. Batman's got a compelling plot, including Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze, led by the Joker (voiced by "I used to be Luke Skywalker" Mark Hamil). The Joker maneuvers Batman into release the right combination of chemicals in an effort to stop other villains. By manipulating Batman into these situations, he inadvertently mixes a dangerous concoction that threatens Gotham. Things look a bit different because the characters are rendered in three dimensions, which is different from Superman: Shadow of Apocalips. So the characters look similar, but they're not quite right. Batman has a multitude of tools at his disposal, including the Batmobile and the Batjet. Batman vaults around the city with his batgrapple, throws batarangs, and uses his cloak as a defense as well as a means of gliding from place to place. Which is important, because Batman fights on a lot of rooftops and ledges -- death from falling happened a lot. The game takes itself seriously. Joker, Harley, and their cronies play for keeps. They shoot machineguns, try to push you off ledges, and otherwise kill you. True to the cartoon, the bad guys fight dirty and it's up to Batman to use his formidable abilities to overcome his disadvantage -- ya know, not having a gun. Batman is well-rendered, but there were some graphic flaws. There is a "snap to" function that allows you to recenter the camera, facing the way Batman's facing. This is less of a good use of the camera as it is a lazy fix to a problem that is problematic for too many games. Unfortunately, it snaps so quickly that sometimes I became disoriented by the new angle. Additionally, the camera is an object and will bounce off walls, forcing itself literally inside Bat's head. Which looks weird and doesn't help the perspective if Batman is against a wall. Batman also has some clipping bugs. In at least two different cases, Batman froze in space after getting trapped on the corner of a three-dimensional object. Then he couldn't leave it and I had to start over. Batman: Vengeance only saves when you IT wants you to. You have to finish the board to get to that point, which makes for an either frustrating or easy experience, depending on your level of skill. By far the best part of the game is fighting my favorite villain, Mr. Freeze. Sure enough, Freeze cannot be fought in hand-to-hand combat (if you've ever seen Batman try, you'll understand) and it requires some crafty maneuvering. There are a multitude of mini-games that test your skill and your brains. Although none are particularly hard, they help break up the gameplay. There are puzzle games, the aforementioned Batmobile and Batjet games, and some other puzzles. This is good, because barring the unique villains (including Mr. Freeze's Eskimo chickies, Poison Ivy's root-men, and the Joker's mimes), there isn't too many bad guy types. The villains do, in typical movie fashion, stop shooting once Batman engages one of their comrades in melee, politely waiting until he goes down to resume firing. They also react to their surroundings, listening to noises, reacting to their allies socking one to Bats (they cheer), and falling off ledges. Yes, you can actually knock someone off a building and watch them plunge to their death. Now THAT'S Batman! Overall, Batman: Vengeance is an excellent balance of puzzles, action, and style. It was a great opportunity to return to the cartoon I enjoyed so much.

Amazon.com Review Unlike most RPGs, you won't be controlling a warrior. Instead you follow theadventures of a bard named Mouse. Some of Mouse's occupation-related tasksinclude composing songs and playing rhythm games similar to Konami's GuitarFreaks. Most of the game has Mouse reliving the same day over and over(think Groundhog Day). Although he's stuck in a time loop, he retains theitems and allies acquired each time he relives the day. It's an interestingtwist, but the plot eventually devolves into the usual saving-the-world drivel. The game's graphics aren't going to impress anyone--there are several PS Onegames that look better. Further hampering playability are several lulls in thegame where you have to wait until a certain time before you can progress. Thiswouldn't be so bad if there were engaging side quests for you to take, but therearen't, so you're often stuck standing around town. When the action does pickup, it's often brought to a halt by extremely long load times. These frustratingaspects combined with the game's difficulty make it a poor choice for casualgamers. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Reviews (43)

Amazon.com Review The game offers your standard modes of play. Exhibition lets you jump into afull race on your own, so you can practice tricks and surmise the competition.Freestyle mode lets you practice and get used to performing trick combos. Careersends you off to create your own custom rider and race against opponents tofurther your career (and unlock various bikes and extra tracks in the process). Finally there's also a Challenge mode (hidden in the options menu), which givesyou a task of unlocking cool video clips of real riders performing the stunts.Of course, you can play Exhibition and Freestyle in split-screen multiplayer, which provides the ultimate and most satisfying challenges. Career mode lets you revel in the accurate bikes available, from 125cc modelsall the way up to 250cc monsters. Bikes handle about the same, but Career modelets you dress your custom biker in licensed clothing and puts your number andname on the rider's back. While the physics--particularly the gravity modeling--is relaxed, allowing youmore time to do the stunts, you still have to worry about power sliding andusing the clutch to win races and stay upright. It's a satisfyingly deep nodtoward simulation while remaining as fun and accessible as an arcade stunt racershould be. Naturally for a PS2 title, the graphics are sharp and the textures complicatedand colorful. It's almost as good looking as the real thing, except the mud youkick up doesn't have to be washed off. --Andrew S. Bub Pros: Reviews (20)

Amazon.com Review Gamers familiar with the controls of the Smackdown series will feel right athome. The game plays largely the same, with some additional moves and finishers. While having familiar and responsive controls is definitely a good thing, thegraphics should not be too familiar on a next-generation system.Unfortunately, the game's character models haven't progressed much from thePlayStation version. However, the improvements in animations and ring entrancesare fantastic. The biggest flaw in the game is the commentary by Tazz and Michael Cole. Thereare several instances in which the commentary is disjointed and unnatural, andit often fluctuates severely in volume. This is a shame, as the announcers are abig part of pro wrestling's storytelling. Despite this problem, WWFSmackdown! Just Bring It packs more than enough quality gameplay and varietyto thrill any WWF fan. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Features Reviews (249)
This is good nowadays and it beats the other wrestling games on the Gamecube and Xbox.
Again, the graphics are better then SmackDown! 2, but worse then SmackDown! 4. There are more then 40 superstars to choose from, less then both of the previously mentioned. Exhibition mode still has alot of matches to choose from. There's still single, tag team, six man tag, handicap, Royal Rumble, King of the Ring, hardcore, falls count anywhere, survival, and special. Special matches include Cage, I Quit, Table, Ladder, TLC, Special Referee, Hell in a Cell, Ironman, 3 Stages of Hell, and Slobber Knocker. The controls aren't very different from SmackDown! 2, so you won't have to much trouble figuring it all out if you've played the second one. Story mode isn't much better then SmackDown! 2, and is REALLY short. The only good thing is the unlockables, and there's ALOT of those, so it's something to look forward to. Other then that, Story mode is pretty boring. Create mode is pretty much the same, except for Create a Pay-Per-View not being in. Create a Superstar is quite a big improvement from SmackDown! 2, where you have even more control. There are more types of moves to be assigned this time, and you also have the power to change the default superstars move set. Create a Taunt is still very pointless, and Create a Stable is the same as SmackDown! 2, except you can't assign as many people to one stable. Theatre mode is actually quite a bit better then SmackDown! 4. You get to watch a behind the scences of how the commercials for SmackDown! 1 and 2 were made. They're pretty funny to. All in all, SmackDown! 3 is one of the worst of the series. If you have a PS2, I'd recommend buying SmackDown! 4 instead. But if you want to own all of them, this is still a good game. ... But the game is really GREAT, EXCITING, ADVENTUROUS, CHALLENGING, and really I can go on and on.This is just my son's and my own personal opingion of this PS Game.Keep up the excellent work. Sincerely, Angela Hudnall & Markus Hudnall,
This time around, the plot is based more around the Tarzan books but uses the Disney movie characters for the playing, like it's brother on PS1. Gameplay is simple and you follow an "invisible" track that always either guides you along or behind, never able to explore the jungle past your "King of the Apes Boundry Fence." Also, with a unique twist, you can river surf, bungee jump, water ski, vine surf and do various tricks on all of them. I don't like how in today's world, all of those sports just have to have tricks to go along with them. Why not just do these sports and enjoy the ride? Still, it was rather enjoyable to do moves such as reverse sking and hand-sliding. There are also two modes of gameplay: Story Mode, which is like your typical platformer, and Terk's Challenges, (Terk is a character from the Disney movie Tarzan, for those of you who don't know.) In Terk's Mode, you do Time Attacks, Trick Score Challenges, and Terk's Super Challenge which combines the two, on every level. Most of it was pretty easy, but sometimes the Super Challenges were pretty tough to do. Anyway, this game is a true Disney Interactive game, with simple gameplay, various perks and still aims for younger Disney Movie fans and "Just-Starting-Out" video game players. Still, somtimes it's just fun to untame the beast within, and play for old-time's sake as the King of the Apes, Tarzan.

The best feature about the game is that your character does need to use boxing skills to prevail. Some of the opponents are sort of goofy looking, but you tend to overlook that when they start pounding on you in the ring. I'm in agreement that the inability to block punches takes away from game being near perfect, but for me, Victorious Boxers blows away Knockout Kings. This is coming from a huge EA fan, too. My PS2 will only play silver-back discs, now.Thank goodness this game is one of the ones I can use.I don't even miss the Knockout Kings 2001/02 I have.Get this game. You won't be disappointed.
Here's my comments on VB I highly recommend this game to everyone. I'm sure you don't want to miss this one.
As one reviewer said, set your left analog stick to expert control and use the L1 for sway. You can control Ippo much, much better that was. The default controller settings leave much to be desired. I think most people who complained about the controls never bothered trying to change the settings for them or even the camera angles to suit their fighting style better. After setting the left analog stick to expert and sway to L1, I fought alot better and covered more ground around the ring. Fighting-wise, it's a pretty well balanced game with the standard straights, hooks and uppercuts plus some special moves per boxer. You will do alot of bobbing and weaving in this game as there is an absence of blocking which is too bad as that would've made this game better especially near the last opponents who become very, very challenging. I really, really like this game and recommend others to watch the series to appreciate the game a bit more. ... Read more | |

Once I got underground, I had to backtrack like 8 times. So the second to final level had me going under lasers again. After I narrowly got by the lasers, I had to go on a catwalk to a small room. There was no cover across the catwalk, and it was easy to die. I ran across for my life to the room which was to the right of the catwalk. Right when I step in the room a missle comes at me and I lose all of my health, and my place. I had to restart from before the lasers. The games mechanics are fine, the bots are boring though. The longer you play, the more times the nuclear bomb thingy goes off. It went off once during my whole time, and that was right before getting to the underground. The game itself is boring. I hated bactracking, and I hated how the enemies always had the upperhand. It was relatively easy somewhat, but powerups and life refills were hard to find, so alot of the time I was at low health, knee deep in baddies. Again, the backtracking is horrible. But also the lasers. My gosh, you have to avoid these lasers on a roof and at the second to last level. The lasers are HARD to get by. You have to do split second reactions. You can only save once a level is complete, so get ready to make commitments. You can't reload from continues so you better finish that level. Again, I hate this game for making the second to last level so hard. Honestly, keep the level of difficulty at medium. How hard is it to make the game easier. Koei decided to make all that time I spent worthless, o and there was no way to beat the guy with the rocket launcher unless I had thousands of health, or a cheat on. I will never cheat, so that is that.
