3-0 out of 5 stars A review from a prudent Dragon Warrior Fan.
I have played so many RPG's, of many platforms.I picked up this game, originally because I LOVE the Dragon Warrior series, and also own all three Gameboy, DW Monster titles. It was something for my collection.
Having said that, let me tell you what this game is like.
If you have played a game called Azure Dreams, then you will feel right at home, here.It uses the same dungen generation interface, leveling system, and trap system. If you've not played Azure Dreams, then I'll explain briefly:
Dundgens are randomly generated, so they are somewhat different each time you enter them, even the same ones. Now, your character level only increases while inside a dungeon, then reverts to level one upon exiting.. so the only way to get stronger permanantly is to find (also randomly located) better weapons/sheilds (yes, only two items to eqip for attack/defence).Some items are eaiser to find in certian dungeons then others, and infact some only appear in certian dungeons.
The story isn't consistant with Dragon Warrior IV (I can't seen when this adventure took place, or even if it's in the Kingdom of Endor *shrugs*) but is still entertaining.I won't lie, it's not exactly the best title out there, and infact I don't recomend it unless you loved, or liked, Azure Dreams, or are willing to attempt something new.
There are many things to unlock in the game, giving it potential replay value, but they are mearly only for enjoyment after the fact.Making it through and beating the game really isn't that strenuous.
Do I like it?well, yes.. but that's just me.Many won't enjoy it at all.PLEASE rent this game if you can.. though I'm not sure if it's even carried by Rental places anymore.Though in retrospect, it's very cheap to find used if you just want something to pass time by.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar game
I love this kind of game as it reminds me of Fatal Labyrinth on the Sega Genesis. It plays more similar however to Chocobo's Dungeon 2 on the Playstation. However this time around you play as Torneko the middle-aged looking, chubby man with a bushy mustache and beanie instead of the yellow Squaresoft bird.

For those of you who have never played Fatal Labyrinth, Chocobo's Dungeon, or even Azure Dreams, the game works like this, it's a semi-overhead view of a field and everyone in it gets their turn when you take yours. So, if you don't move or attack, chances are no one else does either, unless you are sleeping or have some other status ailment. You have to actually get close to your enemy to attack unless you have arrows or magic. You level up as in any traditional RPG but the levels do not carry over each time you enter a dungeon. This may make it sound difficult, but each of the entry floors are rather easy and get more difficult as you progress throughout that dungeon. In later dungeons after the practice ones, there are invisible traps laid out on the floor that you can find by waving your weapon over them, or by means of a certain scroll. There are stores within the dungeon randomly placed wherein a Gargoyle guard watches over. There are several ways to steal from the store, however, which the game even goes over if you speak to the right person in town. Also, if you die in a dungeon before you complete it or find alternate means of leaving (having a priest teleport you, outside scroll, etc.) you lose all items and gold you had on you in the dungeon. Finally, As time passes you gain regain lost hp, but if you spend too much time on one floor (2,000 turns) a gale force blows you out as if you had died.

All in all, a typical turn based random/mysterious dungeon game, but a good one in my opinion. If you liked Chocobo's Dungeon 2, you will probably like this game. Also, it's nice to fight some of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Warrior monsters, though they appear pre-rendered 2-d. The level-up music is nostalgic to me, also.

1-0 out of 5 stars The reviews did this game justice!!!
I had already bought this game and THEN read the reviews before I opened it.Since I have two younger children, haven't been playing the "newer" console games that long and can put up with some less than perfect graphics -I thought that we would like this even though the reviews said it was bad.The pictures on the front of the game and the description make it sound like any normal battle the little monster game with a little storyline. They showed cute little characters in the movie part that introduced the plot.Even when the game began, the characters looked similiar to Fisher Price Little People toys.
and then....it began. This has to be the most annoying attempt at a game that I have ever seen.If any of you remember the game DigDug, that is what this reminds me of.Your adventures all look the same - like a green rat maze that creates itself as you go along. They do give you a map on the screen so you'll find your way but its not like you're gonna get to go anywhere outside of the little rat trap.I'm thinking that dig dug had the right idea, if I had a tire pump and a little energy I would attach it to this game and blow it up.
Please read these reviews, take them seriously, this is horrible!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars *stunned silence*
I wouldn't give this game a second glance if it had a sign saying it was cased along with $1,000,000. Garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Torneko: The Last Hope is amazing. This game's great graphics, wonderful music, driving plot, and fun engine make this game a sure bet. In case you didn't know, Torneko was the merchant in Dragon Warrior IV, and this game expands greatly on him and his whole style of play. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game in the World
My son thinks this game is very awesome because "getting the Titanium Ranger is very awesome. It is a little bit hard to get the Titanium Ranger. When I rented it, I played it all day and wished I didn't have to return it. Then I asked my Dad to buy it but the stores either didn't have it or they were sold out. I looked for it everywhere and I put it on my Christmas list. I didn't get it but when I found out about Toysrus.com I saw it. I think I'll just have to wait until they get some more!"

Editorial Review

Chocobo, that cute birdlike creature of Final Fantasyfame, returns in its very own role-playing adventure. The cutesy appealof Chocobo's Dungeon 2 may look as if it is aimed at youngerplayers, but there is enough depth here to satisfy older gamers.

For starters, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 lets two players partner ingameplay as they search several randomly generated dungeons that arefull of traps, strange devices, and monsters, making the difficultyincrease as the game progresses.

Players can combine armor or weapons to form stronger resources in theirquest. There are also magic feathers that can aid in your efforts, sincethey allow gamers to perform magic spells that have an impact on combat.Between your dungeon travels, players are able to explore villages toobtain valuable clues for the journey. In addition, players can use thistime to update Chocobo's inventory.

Overall, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 is a great game for players lookingto get a start in role-playing games. This title is a safe entry pointto this often-complex game genre. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Randomly generated dungeons provide variety
  • Armor and weapons can be combined to form stronger armor and weapons

5-0 out of 5 stars A cute game with good re-play value
Although the cute animation and PG rating suggests that Chocobo's Dungeon 2 is a kid's game, it has enough challenges to keep an adult player interested. As the title says, this is primarily a dungeon game, where you have to solve mazes, fight monsters, win items, etc. in order to advance the story. What makes it better than most dungeon games are the randomly-generated floor plans. When you exit a dungeon and re-enter, the maze will be entirely different. You still encounter the same monsters and events, but the path to get there is a whole new challenge. This greatly enhances the re-play value of the game, and also keeps you interested if you have to repeat a dungeon -- and you will, because parts of this game are really HARD.(The Sea Floor Dungeon has 27 levels!)

Many of the monsters and characters will be familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy series, with some in-jokes built in.For example, the Tonberry, who fights with a Chef's Knife in FF-VIII, is running a restaurant in this game, and has a drunken Malboro (FF monster) for a customer! You will also find Cid the eccentric inventor, the Black Mages, and Mog the Moogle, among others.

Chocobo himself, of course, is one of those chicken-like birds that the FF characters ride. That's why, in this game, his defensive armor is a saddle.Chocobo can also be equipped with various collars and claws. Different types of saddles and claws are put into special ovens to create customized weapons, similar to the way that armor and weapons are "tempered" in "Legend of Mana" (another Squaresoft game I recommend.)You can also combine other items at the "recycle boxes" to create new items.

When one of your customized saddles or claws breaks in battle, you may get a feather, which has various effects on your abilities.Different weapon combinations and levels produce different feathers. It pays to track down a copy of the Strategy Guide, so you can plan for which abilities you want to develop first.

My biggest complaint about this game is that, if you get KO'd in a dungeon, you lose all the items and equipment you had with you. This can be very frustrating, especially in the beginning, when you can't carry much in the way of healing items. As the game progresses, however, you can rent storage space in town, where youstash extra items that won't be lost in a KO.You will also get "teleport tags" that enable you to beam out of the dungeon at any time WITHOUT losing your items.

The battle system itself is different from the regular FF games, and takes some getting used to.Each time you make a move, the enemy makes a counter-move.If you don't move, both of you just stand there.Think of this as an online version of the old D&D games, where players took turns rolling dice in the battles, and it will make sense. The big advantage is that you can stop right in the middle of a battle if you need to think about what spell or item to use next. You can even teleport out of a battle if you are about to get KO'd.When you do this, you have to start the dungeon over, but you keep your items and experience points.

After you have beat the game once, let the credits roll, and you can play another version of the game -- with new dungeons and the ability to fight as other characters besides Chocobo.Plus, there are some new abilities to earn and a Secret Dungeon with 30 levels!

4-0 out of 5 stars This Game
This game is based on a Chocobo that travels an adventure through dungens with a mog and meets new friends. This Chocobo, A bird type animal, learns magic and finds new wepons, which are claws. There are pots that one can mix two wepons to make a better one. When a high level claw is broken a feather is gained which can be use to summon a summon. There are also potions that heal when the Chocobo is low on healthThis is a very good game for Chocobo Final Fantasys Fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great game to get
This is one of the best chocobo games.the CGI on the game is just great and the storyline is one of the best I've seen so far, like all the other chocobo games it's short but very fun. And when you beat the game and let the credits go you get to play a different game. This game is a must get for all Chocobo fans

4-0 out of 5 stars Relief from and refreshment of Final Fantasy.
Since Thousand Arms took up about 3 weeks of my Playstation time, I didn't get around to playing Chocobo's Dungeon for a long while after I bought it. Totally unexpecting, I decided to try it out because I needed a break fromThousand Arms.

Chocobo's Dungeon is a very fun game with very cutegraphics. The movies are very 3D and the music is very appealing. Thesystem of battle is a big relief from people who dislike constant flow ofbattle, and Final Fantasy lovers will classify this game immediately as aFinal Fantasy game for the younger audiences. This game is addicting andfun. Once you figure out a healthy system for attacking the dungeons, you'll be able to play through the game without getting confused. Overall avery fun game!

3-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight RPG offers lightweight fun.
If you're looking for an epic role-playing game that will consume months of your life with a grandiose storyline, this is not going to fill that need. But if you're looking for an RPG that's good in short bursts andwon't last you too long, "Chocobo's Dungeon 2" wouldn't be a badchoice.

No, don't go scouring your stores - we in US never got the first"Chocobo's Dungeon." Besides, it's not like the plot is reallythat complex anyway.

The chocobo (which, if you've never played a"Final Fantasy" game before, is like a giant chicken that'scommonly used as a mount) goes into a dungeon with his friends to try andsave the world. Simple, but then again, it's supposed to be.

See, thisseries from Squaresoft is aimed at the younger audiences to help them breakinto the complex world of RPGs without having to do it the really hard way.The combat system's rudimentary, but functional, as is the magicsystem.

The graphics are also rounded and, well, cute. Everything has asuperdeformed look to it (big heads, little bodies) and even the soundeffects are reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons.

While the Dungeongames may be aimed at younger folk, it doesn't mean that they're no fun forbig kids, because Squaresoft makes sure their games are challenging foreveryone, and even the most hardened veteran of RPGs will have troublefinishing "Chocobo's Dungeon 2" in under 20 hours.

Beyond that, the game offers a second set of quests after you finish the first one, togive the game that much more longevity.

And, in some ways, it's anostalgia trip for old Squaresoft fans, for them to see some of thecharacters of old Squaresoft games who have been MIA for a while.

Sowhether or not you want to get into "Chocobo's Dungeon 2" reallydepends on the experience you're looking for.

If you've finished"Final Fantasy VIII" and looking to cut your teeth on anotherhardcore RPG, either go get "Saga Frontier 2" or the epic andintense "Front Mission 3."

If you're looking for cuteadventuring fun in short bursts, this will do just fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Well Done
Duke Nukem - Land Of The Babes is the best of the three Duke games on Playstation, but that is not saying much considering how bad the other two were. The pace of this is off and on, sometimes there are no enemies, sometimes there are many enemies. Using the many guns in the game is fun, sniping is extra cool, especially when you pop the baddies head off. The game is very hard however, and you will need a strategy guide to finish it. About 2/3 of the way through the first level is where the game gets real hard, real fast. Dukes one-liners may have been funny back in '95 with the original Duke 3D but now they have been used so much in the many different Duke games that they simply aren't funny anymore. The graphics lack polish, and aren't much better than the other Duke games. Overall this game SCREAMS mediocre. This would be a fun rental, just be sure to look up a strategy guide on the 'net first, because it's pretty much impossible without one. I would suggest buying the guide from Amazon but if you only rent it then there is really no point to buying a full price guide when you can find one on the 'net for free.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Up to Par
I agree with the previous comments on this new release. There are far fewer enemies and it doesn't require any skill to bump them off.You can see them from a mile away and can pop them very easily.A strategy guide, i.e., walkthru, is definitely helpful. Before I received the walk-thru, I gave up and quit Level 2 after trying for hours to complete the last objective (today I found the walkthru--available at:...).

There are some features that I like which are improved from the Time To Kill game:

1.There are new, cool, destructive weapons. 2.The select option to pick weapons, objects, communications, 3.The cheat menu on screen (although, there is no "all objects cheat").

Overall, it's ok to rent and play, but, I wouldn't pay ... to buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Need a Strategy Guide
I think to play this game, that a strategy guide would be helpful, like one you can purchase with Amazon.com.Also the use of cheat codes will help get through the levels without running out of ammo and getting bumped off too soon.I'll admit that the lack of enemies at certain levels is quite boring. Also the "nukers" vocabulary could of been expanded a lot more. All in all, it is fun in spots and I am not too disappointed with the game.It is a lot more fun than " Time to Kill".A good buy, but a strat guide and codes should make you enjoy the game more, at least it can't hurt!

5-0 out of 5 stars There are NOT enough games like this! Please make more!
I love action shooters. Games that are all about hand/eye coordination and quick reflexes. This game totally delivers on that premise and I wish there were more like it.

From a technology and graphics standpoint the title is just OK. But the gameplay, cinematics/story, puzzles/secrets and weapons are all top notch and well worth the price of admission to play this game.

I've seen some reviews that compare the game to Tomb Raider and that is very misleading. This is an action-shooter, not an exploration game.

I highly recommend this game. It will hold me over til I can get a Playstation2:)

1-0 out of 5 stars Easily the worst of the Duke Nukem series
After waiting since April (the original release date!) for this game to come out, all I can say is:What a disappointment! If you thought Time to Kill looked unpolished, wait till you see this game! The graphics are spotty, there are barely any enemies, and it seems that more than two or three animated objects on the screen at once causes the framerate to creep down close to zero.Worst of all, Duke now speaks as if he's sitting on the john; his previously humorous quips are now ruined by a whiney, strained voice. All in all, a VERY disappointing effort to continue the series; this is a real shame, as I was formerly a huge Duke fan.Shame on Infogrames and everyone else involved for this sorry attempt. ... Editorial Review

Those looking for a Saving Private Ryaninteractive will be pleased with this effort from the games division of Hollywood'sDreamWorks studio. Polished with the grit of great WWII films, Medal of Honorshines brightly, despite the graphic limitations of the PlayStation.

As U.S. secret service officer James Patterson, you must embark on highly dangerousmissions, sometimes in the trenches, sometimes undercover, but always alone and alwayseliminating the German Nazi threat. The Nazis are equipped with the same weapons asyou, and they know how to use them. Throw a grenade and watch soldiers scatter, orbetter yet kick a steel pineapple back in their direction before it blows.

Missions are divided into challenging--but never frustrating--levels that includeinfiltrating a U-boat pen, destroying a war train while disguised as a German officer, orpowering through a group of nasty Gestapo in a quaint French town. A mixture of stealthfighting and action movie bravado, using each with prudence is essential for successfullycompleting levels.

This game is suspenseful, in the way that a good page-turner keeps you up at night. You'll be playing until the end of the level, but when that comes, the briefing for the nextlevel is just too enticing to stop. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • The best first-person shooter for the PlayStation
  • An engaging plot, even for non-history buffs
  • Outstanding music and sound design
Cons:
  • Graphics get blurry when close up

5-0 out of 5 stars BRAVO
I love this game. BRAVO well done. The only negative things I have to say is that I wish they allowed you to do more hand to hand combat or knife fighting and that I wish the game had more gadgets like binoculars and a map.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best PS shooter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EA has finally made a action/adventure game worth playing for the PS.In this game you will come across many different types of enemy soldiers through its 7 missions and 24 levals. There will be Wehrmacht light infantry, Gestopo police, snipers, and much more. The missions are well done and provide a felling that your watching a old WW2 film. The missions range from sobotageing a deadly U-boat to destroying a rail gun. The missions never get boreing and always are challengeing. The graphics are the best your going to get on the PS and the replay valu is much greater than that of the 007 games and most other shoot 'em up games.
This game is great and is worth buying for the PS.

1-0 out of 5 stars boring predictable crap
I have one question. Can you play from the point of view of a german soldier? No you say? Then what in hell is the goddamn point??? If i can't be a mean, grizzled, ss seargant, or a tough fallschirmjager, blasting away at tom hanks looking g.i.'s with an mp-40 in both hands, then i don't want to be anything at all.

peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUN TO PLAY!
The original "Medal of Honor" game is fun to play. Despite graphics that are cheezy by PS2 standards, gamers will find a thrilling experience! Grade: B+

BAG2 is one of my favorite games!! Shorty, Heat, and Hiro-kun are the best!! The music's nice and the dancing's better!!! Anyone who wants to jam and have fun should play Bust a groove 2!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game...Lots of FUN
I picked up the first Bust-A-Groove out of the blue and my brother made fun of me and said I was buying a stupid game. However, we both became hooked!!So of course I bought the 2nd edition.I, personally, liked the music in the first game better.Overall, though, the 2nd edition is a very fun game.I was disappointed to see that some of the characters from the first weren't in the second, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars I liked this game
I played the original Bust A Groove game at a friends house, and I immediately got hooked. Afterwards I went searching for the game, but to no avail. Then I found Bust a Groove 2, and I also love it. The songs are still catchy and the moves are good. And if you can hit the really high scores there are special moves you can do(Make sure to keep a watch on Shorty's little mouse which is now located on her head.) There are some things I don't like though. They got rid of song that I liked (kitty nyanko's) and shorties moves aren't as cools as they were in the original. But it's sure to get you hooked and maybe even make you want to start taking dance lessons yourself.

Editorial Review

Although it's not nearly as well crafted as Metal GearSolid, Syphon Filter 2 will definitely appeal to thoselooking for something more than your basic shoot-'em-up. The grittyespionage plot here is a continuation from the original game, withplayers once again controlling Gabe Logan and, for the first time, LianXing, two operatives on the lam from their former outfit, theAgency.

Syphon Filter 2 is broken up into missions bridged by cinematicstory sequences; players must successfully complete each mission'sobjectives in order to progress to the next one. While gameplay isrigidly linear, there's great variety in the mission objectives, 3-Denvironments, and weapons/equipment of each mission.

Not a game for the easily frustrated, Syphon Filter 2 involves alot of trial-and-error replay, along with the requisite cursing andthrowing of the controller. While each mission objective is clearlystated, many of them aren't as straightforward as one would think. Avague control scheme--your character can jump, but there's no jumpbutton--along with the fact that it's really easy to die add more fuelto one's ire. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Gritty espionage plot
  • Variety of mission objectives, 3-D environments, weapons, andequipment
Cons:
  • Frustrating trial-and-error gameplay and vague control scheme
  • Poorly designed two-player split-screen mode

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it and still do
If u want a good shoot em up game this is it. this was the first game i found that when u shoot a enemy is the HEAD or LEG the body armor doesnt stop the bullet. Great game and u can get it with some spare change aith amazons great pricing.

4-0 out of 5 stars hard, frustrating and super fun
this game is actually fun to play and the storyline is so great that they should make a movie out of this game.the game could get really frustrating specially when you play lian xing but once you have played through couple of stages you will get use to the sneking around and killing and i would recommend you to get a stradegy guide it makes the game lot less frustrating after you play through a couple of stages you would not want to put your controller down because you would want to find out what happens next if just they made the game a little less frustrating this would have been better than any action adventure game
SOUND
the sound of this game is awesome from the background music to the voice acting its great like when your trying to kill an enemy without letting him see you there is a slow paced music when you missed him and he saw you the music turn into fast paced.
GAMEPLAY
gameply is great the auto targeting really helps but could have more accurate
graphics
graphics are mediacore could have been better

this game is really great except for the few glitches but if you start getting into the game it is more fun and there is also a multiplayer mode and you could unlock area in multiplayer mode by finding items in one player mode.
it would be a lot easier for you if you could get the first syphon filter so you would know more about the story and it is lot easier than the second one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game
This game is great! I would give this game 5 stars, but I don't think any game is worth 5 stars. I couldn't believe they killed off two of the best characters, but over all the game wasn't bad, I want to get the third one. Get this game

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool, but......
This game is pretty cool. I play it all the time. It's just that after you've played it for awhile it starts to get sort of boring. You may disagree now, but once you've played it for a few weeks it just becomes less amusing. Don't take this the wrong way, I love the Syphon Filter trilogy. And I'm waiting to buy the 3rd one. But I still think you should buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweetness!!!!!!!!!!
This is a must by game. It is an awsome sequal to the first syphone filter game. If you have an extra 20 bucks on you what are you waiting for. This game has sweet weapons, graphics, and theme. If you like shooting people up games buy it imediatly. It is not to hard but it will last you a while. I think I'm going to go play it now! ... Read more

Editorial Review

While it never quite achieves Muhammad Ali-like greatness, Knockout Kings 2000 isnonetheless an excellent boxing game for both the enthusiast and the casual gamer. Fifty boxing legendsfrom the past and present are featured in this EA Sports title, along with world-famous arenas and TV-stylecoverage. In addition to being able to set up your own fights in the standard exhibition mode, you can playout nine of the greatest boxing matches in history in the game's classic mode. And for those interested inless realism and more pugilism, slugfest mode offers over-the-top, arcade-style boxing.

The real crowd pleaser here is Knockout Kings 2000's career mode. Choosing from a wide varietyof options, you get to create your own custom boxer, who can fight his way to the top in career mode orparticipate in exhibition and slugfest matches. Before career fights, customized boxers can be improved bytraining, or playing various mini-games. (A memory card is required to save custom boxer data.)

What robs Knockout Kings 2000 of the championship belt is its unbalanced 3-D graphics. Theboxers look great and move fluidly, but everything else appears flat and unfinished. Thankfully, fast gamespeed and responsive controls clamp down on the sightseeing, which is one sure-fire way to end up KO'd.--Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Can create your own custom boxer
  • Features realistic and arcade-style boxing
  • Fast game speed and responsive controls
  • Optional 1-button mode for those who don't want to memorize controls
Cons:
  • Except for the boxers, graphics aren't very pretty

4-0 out of 5 stars TKO
I really like the game, but I wish the opponent's attacks were just a little more telegraphed so that I, as a player, would have a better fighting chance against the computer that is obviously connected to whatever button I press when it comes to its defensive tactics.

3-0 out of 5 stars Knockout Kings 2000 quite entertaining, but some flaws
Knockout Kings 2000 is overall a pretty good game. After first playing it with my friend, I got hooked on it. The music is awesome. The Career Mode is a good idea, and I love that there are so many legendary boxers to choose from.

However, I agree with other reviewers in that the game is not so true to real-life boxing techniques. (Of course, one can argue that realism in a video game is unimportant, just as in the movies...) I can win too easily just throwing combos. Not much strategy involved. Also, defense is impossible in the game. All you can do is evade once the computer starts swinging; bobbing and weaving are useless. This really annoys me. Another thing that bothers me is that the computer can throw just as many combos as you, but still have nearly a full tank of stamina.

I wonder why George Foreman or Mike Tyson aren't included? I mean, Jack Dempsey, but no George Foreman? Come on! And Ken Norton and Joe Frazier are underrated in the game. This really bummed me out. Also, it seems odd to me that I can beat Muhammad Ali with, say, Leon Spinks, easier than I can beat Larry Holmes or Evander Holyfield, using the exact same strategy. And Holyfield--while a great heavyweight--is not as good as the game makes him out to be, in my opinion.

But all in all, the game is good for hours of enjoyment. There are more things I like about it than dislike. I recommend it favorably.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knockout Session of the Centery
Battle with Rocky, Ali, Frazier, practilly all the really good players of 2000, slugfest, knockpeople down and make'em do a back flip, cuts, cool graphics, awsome, awsome, awsome. Creat a boxer train'em. You want boxing. This is the game!

4-0 out of 5 stars KO--A Knockout or Keel OVer?
I have watched boxing for many years and even competed in the amateur ranks.IF you share the same experience as me, then you can see glaring mistakes a mile away.

I will start out by saying that this is perhaps the best boxing game going today. Mike Tyson's Boxing for teh PSX sux bad.Ready to Rumble was just incoherent.I have not tried HBO boxing yet.The music is good. The career mode is good. There are a lot of good things about this game.BUT.

Anyone that has ever had a MINUTE of training knows not to start off a fight throwing combos. The rule of thumb is to stick with your jab and let the combos flow.Do not force them.I can put the game on HARD and literally win within two rounds by doing nothing but combos. The best combo is circle, triangle, triangle, triangle. This totally goes against boxing logic.

I wish EA would have put a little more stock in defense. The only way to do defense is literally hit and RUN.When the computer starts swinging, run and circle to the left.Bobbing and weaving dont work. This is depressing.

I also wish EA would develop a "watch mode."I know this may sound wierd, but I LOVE commentating games. My freinds will swear that my commentary is the only reason they play the game.I would just love to commentate Chavez v Hagler.Oh well.

The game is worth 20 bucks, but not much more than that.Seriously, it is not very challenging. I played the 2001 version, but dont remember much about it.BTW, Mike Tyson's Punchout for the Nintendo (1987) was the best boxing game ever--barnone.

2-0 out of 5 stars All the Glitter at First, but no real substance after....
I have been following boxing for about 18 years and even boxed amateur.I was watching when Macho Camacho was 6-0 and being featured on an undercard of a regular network boxing event- you know, the kind before pay-per-view.I watched not only Hagler-Hearns (I think it was this fight) but also the undercard which to me was the greatest fight of all time even if the fighter I was pulling for lost - Wilfredo Gomez-Lupe Pintor.

So, I know a little about what I speak.I guess I use too much strategy when I play, because I always go to the body before going to the head. I always wear a guy down - "Kill the Body, and the head will follow".

Minuses 1. I was very disappointed that even after you wear a fighter down by reducing his stamina, they were still able to throw combinations and flurries constantly. Not very realistic.

2. I am very disappointed that you have to press four buttons very, very quickly to throw a combination. I am sure the computer does not have this problem judging from the amounts it throws.

3. I am very disappointed that when you start a combination or a flurry, the computer can stop you in your tracks with a punch while you do not have the ability to do so... usually, after he starts a combination, you cannot get a punch off until he is through punching.

4. I am very disappointed that you can max out your speed and power on career mode and someone like Marlon Wayans of all people still hit as hard as you. He's a comedian for crying out loud. You should knock him out with the first punch you throw. You also get beat to the punch in many fights even with 100 in speed.

5. If you have ever paid attention to the punch stats, you will find that the other guy hits on about 90-95% of his punches. The only way to keep him from doing that is to constantly bob and weave and you still get hit more than 50% doing that and you can't really punch out of the bob and weave on this game. I on the other hand am blocked very consistently and hardly ever land more than 50%.

6.The commentators hardly get any punches right. Many rounds, all I have thrown is left hooks to the body and the other guy has thrown the occasional punch to the body back, and usually at the most inappropriate moment, O'Grady says, that's was a nice cross there. Someone in the stands must have thrown the right cross because no one in the ring did.

7. In the lightweights, you have a guy 115 lbs?Come on, Be more realistic. This isn't 1900 when there were only about four weight classes and everyone under 130 or so fought lightweight. And a hint to the programmers, A 115 lb guy could never hurt a guy 140 even if his record is 38-2-0 with 26 knockouts. And the speed difference wouldn't be enough to overcome that disadvantage.

8. How do you throw specialty punches? The little book doesn't even mention them. The little book only mentions signature punches. And I get nailed everytime I am winding up to throw my signature punch, so I stopped trying. It is also very, very difficult to press the triangle button at the same time as the "o" button. You almost have toput the controller down.

9. Overall, I am agreement with everyone who states that this is just a "press the button faster and more times and you will probably win" game. What fun is that? I can buy Street Fighter or something if I want that. I kept looking for steaks or something for "powerups".

Pluses- Not many, but the wide range of fighters was pretty good, I guess. It was cool to fight Boom Boom Mancini and then right after that fight Arguello. Arguello killed me. It's fun to throw an illegal punch or elbow back when a fighter does it to you.I sometimes do it when I try for 40 seconds or so to hit the guy but he keeps covering up because he is about to go down. I was once stopped on cuts even though I had knocked my opponent down about 4 times and was leading on all the scorecards. That was OK.

I am not going to buy the 2001 version because it sounds like it was more of the same of this game. It sounds like they added more glitter but no real gameplay.

Here are suggestions to the makers (EA) if they keep trying.

1. Have purses and have offers to fight several opponents thereby making you have to make a decision on who you will fight. Will you fight the mandated opponent, or will you fight the big money Champion coming up from the next lowest weight division. Have a fighter be stripped of one of the belts if he doesn't fight the contender mandated by the governing body.

2. Every now and then (ay like maybe .001% or slightly more) have a fight stolen on points cards by dumb judges.

3. Have fighters have styles that give more depth to slugger and boxer like "starts fast but finishes weak", "gets stronger as the fight goes on", and other styles - there are plenty.

4. Have the ability to match up two fighters and have the computer fight for both of them.

There are other things but these are the main ones I had... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment, what a disappointment...
I remember watching "Alien 3: Resurrection" at a theatre, expecting some quality equivalent of previous two movies; Alien, and Aliens. I left the theatre with bitter taste because the third installment of the Alien series wasn't even up there to be compared with the previous two movies. What a disappointment...
I wouldn't be disappointed as nearly as I was disappointed that day if there were no such things as Alien, or Aliens. It was bitter disappointment because I was left with no choice but comparing with two great predecessors.

Playing Ray Crisis gave me exactly same taste/feeling, which I felt when I was walking out of the movie theatre. First installment, Galatic Attack, also known as Layer Section in Japan, was an awesome shooter games. It was great enough to be compared to be those great shooter games out there such as Radiant Silvergun and Shienryu. It was beautifully drawn, each level was designed with lot of thought, even the title of each stage was inspiring, coupled with excellent music by Zuntata.
Second installment, Ray Storm, which is an excellent game, not as good as the first one in my opinion, nevertheless, a GREAT game by today's standard. It incorporated more of 3D looking yet the graphic was BELIEVABLE, not those choppy graphic. The game play was also excellent, not as challenging as the first installment(but provided more than enough challenges), but surpassed Layer Section in terms of music and ending. The ending of the first installment was good, meaning it was better than other typical games where it only shows credit. However, Galatic Attack did something more than just showing credit. Moreover, Ray Storm, which has to be the BEST ENDING EVER for any shooter games. You gotta play the game to the end to see it for yourself. With the story scrolling up, with EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT MUSIC, it raised itself from just mere shooter game to something even more.

Now, with all the good things said about first two games of the series... Trust me, I was dying to play this very game. When I played it through, I was left with this emptiness.I might have enjoyed it up to certain extent if I haven't played the first two installment. However, first two installment were way up there in terms of gameplay, graphic, music, ending, etc, Ray Crisis just does not live up to the 'legacy' of the series, just like Alien 3 the Movie.

I don't want to get into the detail why I was disappointed, gameplay(what happened?), GRAPHIC(it looks worse then Ray Storm???), music(not intuitive), etc. I thought about how to describe this disappointment and came up with perfect description.

NO 'SOUL' HAS BEEN PUT INTO RAY CRISIS, PERIOD.

It's a decent game. It's good enough to be enjoyed. However, it's no near to be in same level with either Layer Section or Ray Storm. What a disappointment, what a disappointment...
I really hate to see this one of my favorite installment ending with Ray Crisis, a mere decent game. I really hate to see that...

5-0 out of 5 stars PS2 ?This game proves that the PS1 has some punch left...
Wow. This game is a great last gasp for my beloved Playstation. Working Designs is looking to have a strong finish for the old grey box with Lunar 2 and Arc the Lad collection just aound the corner. If you are a fan of the "shooter" genre, you must have this game. Raycrisis: Series Termination, rivals the great shooters on this system like Einhander and R-Type Delta. This game uses an over head view. The terrain is in glorious 3-D and boasts superb detail. The jungle level is amazing, with weather effects to boot. The game play in this sequel is similar to it's predecessor, Raystorm. You control one ship against hundreds of enemies with the ability to lock-on to multiple targets. Your ship sports forward cannons and rear-firing lasers. The bosses are generated by an evil computer (most likely a Microsoft X-box) that is bent on taking over the world. The stage bosses are of the large sort that beg to be destroyed. You blast through levels of enemies that seem to swarm around yourfighter. Raycrisis plays at a good speed, but it does experience a bit of slow down. The slow down is not enough to foul up game play though. In fact, it may save you when a cloud of destruction is headed your way. To get full benefit of Raycrisis, I suggest turning the difficutly up and the lives down. This game defines "twitch shooter." If you love old school style shooters, this game is for you.

Editorial Review

Expectations ran high for this game, due to its exciting, eponymous movie and the exceptionalNintendo 64 James Bond game GoldenEye 007. And while this game presents the variety andintrigue one would expect from the beloved licensed-to-kill, martini-sippin' spy, it would have benefitedfrom a bit more polishing. Don't expect this game to be on par with the games and movies that preceded it.In fact, if you're looking for a GoldenEye-like experience for the PlayStation, you'd be much betteroff with the WWII period piece, Medal of Honor.

Tomorrow Never Dies uses an auto target mode, but it's far too restrictive to be of use here, requiring players to stand still in order to keep the target locked. The game loyally follows the film, butwhen the action intensifies--such as a hot pursuit on skis, or flying a nuclear warhead-laden jet out of a hotzone--players are forced to either relinquish control entirely or have minimal input.

Gadgets from Bond's old pal Q are too sparsely used, and the absence of any multiplayer mode seals thisgame's fate as a small diversion rather than a stellar accomplishment. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Excellent music
  • Good use of real film clips to propel the story
Cons:
  • Very poor control scheme and limited distance vision inhibit stealthy playing style
  • Skiing and driving sequences feature outdated graphics and ambiguous controls
  • Easy levels and no multiplayer mode give this game little, if any, replay value

3-0 out of 5 stars Its ok for a cheap shooter
I bought this game because of the N64 game golden eye, this was NOTHING like that. You are in 3rd person mode, and its hard to maneuver almost all of the time. Also, having automatic weapons is no help, the enimy takes its damage and wont take another for about another second or 2, destroying the purpose of having and automatic weapon. The graphics aren't very good either. There is however no bloodshed, making it more suitable for younger people. This is ok, just not like I expected it to be.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very, very bad game
Tomorrow Never Dies is one of the worst action games ever. There are hardly any puzzles to solve, and the puzzles in the game are extremely easy. There was no thought put into this game. Only 10 levels that are SOOO short. There are only about 3-4 hours of gameplay. Weapons were okay, but they were too powerful, and that kind of made the game too easy. I mean, the pistol has UNLIMITED ammo. It also has sixteen bullets per clip, and an extremely fast rate of fire. The pistol can kill regular enemies so easily, and it can even kill the bosses easily. I could beat the whole frikkin' game using the pistol. Also, Bond never dies. The enemies are so dumb that you will never lose. When I play games, I want a challenge...

My name is Mark Thomas Stillwell and this game is awsum.I went on vacatoion and this game kept me intertained the whole time.My dad was calling me a frootloopp because I was playing a girl game but I say that boys will be boys even if they don't know if they like girls or boys.Peace out girls!!!(*

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun clothes
Fun two player games with 10 levels.Girls love changing snowsuits and inline skating outfit.Use points to buy new gear at sport shop.Secret areas and key to unlock ultimate level.Vibration function compatible.

4-0 out of 5 stars mom of 1girl & 3 boys
I happened to like this game.It is kind of basic so since I have 4 children under the age of 7 it is easy for them to play.It was bought for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it.She has as much fun picking out the outfits as she does playing the game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
I thought this game was kind of dull.It is not as cool as the "Manufacturers Review" makes it sound. The only thing you have control over is turning and the outfit you wear. You can't even jump. Even the outfit you wear is limited to around five or six outfits whichdon't mix and match. The way you gain points is by collecting purpletickets. That wouldn't be so bad but there is a limited supply. If youcollect all the tickets you can get the best skates/snowboard but then yourout of tickets and you can't get anything else.It doesn't even help toget "upgraded equipment" with the snowboards because you don't gomuch faster (as if you were going fast to begin with) and you don't needfast skates to win the game.So there is really no point. You supposedlyget a cool prize when you win but all it is is a ten second video thatshows a trophy. This is also the first game I have beaten that has tookonly about 45 minutes to beat. There is no real challange to it.Inconclusion this game is okay to rent but I would rent it before buying itso you know if it is something that you will like. I can almost guaranteethat most people will get bored with it after a few times of beating it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Awful
I bought this thinking it would be something like Resident Evil but it turned out awful. The camera angle is often akward, and it seems like your going through the same train car the entire game. DON'T BUY!

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL!! Stinks..
I bought this game with the intention of enjoying a great espionage/covert thriller. Instead, I got a game that had horrible camera angles, clunky controls and a monotonous environment-It ain't Syphon Filter, thats for sure-Save your money-I'm trading this in for something else!

4-0 out of 5 stars What if Syphon Filter & Dino Crisis had a baby?
This game contains the usual kill-the-bad-guy, collect-the-ammo, collect-the-cardkeys stuff that we've come to love from Dino Crisis, Syphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid. But it looks most like (and is similarly paced to) Dino Crisis. There's a lot of walking around and having no idea where you're going. But once you figure things out, then the fun begins. The cut-scenes are high-quality and the gameplay graphics are pretty good, too.If you enjoy exploring and puzzle solving in relative quiet, then Covert Ops is for you. But, if you'd rather have a more fast-paced game, then I'd recommend one of the Syphon Filter titles. At the very least, Covert Ops should help satisfy you until the next Syphon Filter game (Omega Strain) is released this fall.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rescue the Hostages, kill the badguys, save Paris.
As Lt. Jack Morton of NATO you are assigned to protect the french ambassador to Russia as he and his family return to France aboard the Blue Harvest passenger train. Everything seems okay then Jack's life is sent right down the toilet when a group of para-military terrorists attack the train, kill your entire unit, and hold the ambassador and his family for ransom. When things don't seem like they can get any worse, they do. Intelligence discovers the terrorists may have a nuke hidden on-board. Talk about problems! In my personnal experience with this game: What I like most is it has up to six different endings based on your skill. Everything from the nuke going off to you saving the day. Are you up to the challenge? I almost am. There is only one ending I have yet to reach.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game was ok.
Contrary to popular belief, this game was rather cool. The A.I was slow, but the action made up for that. If you liked Syphon Filter, and Metal Gear Solid, you should at least rent it. ... Read more

This game is not like the old rock em sock em robots. It's set in the future, and allows you to compete in fights in a 3-D ring with other robots. You can knock off your oppenents parts and if you win you get to keep them. You can earn cash through matches to buy parts to upgrade your robot. There are 14 robots and there is also a 2 player mode. This game is fair and would appeal more to a younger crowd. If you really want a good customizeable robot game check out the armored core series for the PS1 and PS2. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars old timer agrees with youth
I was looking for good playstation games and got involved with game reviews. Previous reviewers are right, this game is great. Editorials are by persons who think they have experience because of exposure, a classic myth. This is one of my first games long ago and I will never part with it, though it has not been played in years. The hacking, bow shooting and throwing are not really deja vu (anyone speak french?). It took time to develop skill. True, the enemy is in the same place, an irritation now, but not back then. Eventually, sword skill and manuevering was so awesome (did not come easy), I wept after killing large numbers, because I did not want to stop. Entertaining and a pleasant Zena time passer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Battle On Xena!
I used to be and still am a big xena fan. This game is very cool I got it as a christmas present and I was very happy when played it for the first time. This is an action packed video game that will keep you playing for a longtime and thats were you can say battle on Xena! This game is perfect for any and mean any Xena fan ...

5-0 out of 5 stars I love Xena
I never loose to see Xena. When I am an adult I want to be like Xena. I love to be a warrior an I have much strength. I play Xena with my sister, I act as Xena and she acts as Grabrielle. Moreover it means that women are more warriors and more intelligent than men. Since I was a child I have had a lot of nerves and I have been willing to become a true warrior.

4-0 out of 5 stars Be the Warrior
This game is the sole reason I bought a Play Station. It was a blast and I really enjoyed playing it. Mastering all the unique Xena moves allows you to slaughter your foes with true warrior style. I was sad after I got through all the levels. I wish they would make another one with Gabrielle as a second player or just being in it more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!! A true Xenite game!
This is an awsome game! I know, I know, it doesn't have the best graphics, but the gameplay in AWSOME!!!! I love throwing the chakram. (the so called "ring thing") I am a true Xenite! (Xena fan) And it's a perfect game for our kind, and for all other gameplayers! It has the best fighting/adventure game qualities EVER!!! If you are a adventure game-player, or just a person who is looking for some adventure in a game, this is the game for you!!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A first-person-shooter based on the Resident Evil series of"survival horror" video games, Resident Evil: Survivor is an unfortunatecasualty of political correctness. It's painfully obvious that this game wasmeant to be played with a light gun, which the Japanese version supports, butthe U.S. version decidedly does not. Instead, a rudimentary control scheme usingthe PlayStation controller has been substituted, one which is simply ill-suitedfor the otherwise unmodified arcade-style gameplay.

Were it not for this major shortcoming, Resident Evil: Survivor's otherflaws would be more tolerable, if not excusable. The attempt here to graftvarious elements of the Resident Evil games onto a shoot-'em-up justdoesn't take. The plot--which casts the player as an amnesiac who survives ahelicopter crash only to find himself in a foreboding town swarming with zombiesand other hideous biotechnological mutations--is more of a side story to theResident Evil saga, and not a very interesting one at that. The game'spuzzles practically solve themselves, and while your character is free (more orless) to go where he pleases, the gameplay is so terribly linear that it mightas well take place on a predetermined track. Once you factor in the game'scoarse graphics, choppy animation, and spotty sound, what you're left with hereis far more horrible than horrifying. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Provides some side-story elements to the Resident Evil saga
Cons:
  • No light gun support; substituted controls ill-suited for arcade-stylegameplay
  • Coarse graphics, choppy animation, and spotty sound
  • Short game length with practically no replay value

1-0 out of 5 stars NnyCW for Capcom City
Resident Evil Survivor, the black sheep of the Resident Evil family. Compared to the rest of the Resident Evil's, yes, this game is bad. However, it is not unplayable. The lack of any and all save points means that you're going to have to go thru the entire game in one sitting...and that can be quite a challenge. However, considering how easy the game is, it's not because of difficulty. This game just is bad. Now, if you have a bunch of friends over who love Resident Evil like you do and you just want to be able to say you beat them all, this game does have some redeeming value. It's great for a laugh with a group of friends at just how bad it is. This game is more of a collectors item for those who want to have the entire Resident Evil series and who want to beat them all rather than for those who want a fun and enjoyable game to play. Stay away unless you're Resident Evil thru and thru. NnyCW for CapCity.

1-0 out of 5 stars Atrocious at best
Don't waste on second of your time with this game.It belongs in the trash. No saves,2 hours to beat the whole game, and the worst graphics ever. You'd have more fun being attacked by a rabid dog than playing this game. Just say no to this one. It's not even worth renting!!

4-0 out of 5 stars HORRID
This game is so terrible I didnt even finish it. I would rather play the first one a million times in a row then play this pathetic game. Even if you are a RE fan, don't get this. I only got it to put in my collection wich is going well right now. But anyways, DON'T GET IT.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Game
I'm a die-hard Resident Evil fan, so I got this one. I've only played it on my PS2 and it works great. However, you can't save the game, so you have to beat it in one sitting. I like that it's inventive, with the first person perspective, no track to follow, and the ability to carry an unlimited amount of items. Only get this if you love Resident Evil.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too easy for a REvil game
The worst REvil game I have ever played. For sure. It is too easy, no puzzles, infinite bullets and really short. If you want a Resident Evil Buy the first one. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad
This game is ok. The first time I played it I thought it was boring. Then one day I decided to play it again and found that it wasn't bad at all. You won't waste you money, but after a couple games you more than likely will park it.

2-0 out of 5 stars The first one is much better
Die Hard Trilogy (the original) is much better than this game. While the graphics are improved, the controls and camera angles are a HUGE problem in this game. This game is more of the same and doesn't really offer anything new.I recommend the first one or at least rent this before you buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Yippee Ki Yay!Again...
This game is pretty good. The first one is better. The graphics have improved in this one and the story is fine but the game is just not as fun. Also, the controls are not as good as they were in the first one.The story is all about John McClane (of course) who gets asked by a good friend to come down to Vegas to visit his casino.Unfortunately for John, trouble follows him once again.Buy this game if you have played or own the first game.

5-0 out of 5 stars VIVA LAS VEGAS BABY!YEA!
YES! Fox Interactive has done it again! An Excellent Die Hard game. Exelent graphics, and a new feature to the games, Movie mode. I'd say with this game they should come out with a new Die hard Trilogy Movie.

Onceagain John McLain is on suspension, and is feeling realy low until his goodbuddy Kenny Baker calles him from his office at the Mesa Grande Prison inLas Vegas, he invites him to a party because Kenny is the new warden at theprison. That is the plot, He then
