4-0 out of 5 stars This is a pretty good game
The "It's a Piece of Cake" game is soooo easy. There are lots of different levels and is really more about exploration than game skill. That's what's great about it for kids...they will love it and can actually play it. The "It's No Picnic" game also has lots of levels and was really more challenging than I expected. It took me quite a while to master the jumping and stuff. You can only use the directional buttons on the controler to move Hefty, and it takes a while to get the hang of it. I was very surprised and it was more difficult than I expected. Alot of times it just feels like the Smurf is NOT doing what you commanded it to, but precision and learning the timing of Hefty's movements is key to mastering this game. Practice makes perfect in this game. Game play was quite fun, but the end where you beat Gargamel was not as challenging as I expected compared to the rest of the game. The end was a bit disappointing. My 5 yr old can play the first two levels of "It's No Picnic", so even the harder portions of the game are good for kids as well as adults. I think you'll be happy with this game. It's not the greatest, but it's definitely not the worst. It has some great things to offer.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the other guy/girl who is confused...
Well, this game is good; just buy it. For the fella who could not pass the "smurf-eating" flower at Level One: Just jump ON (not over!) the flower's head to kill it (timing and rythm is critical to do it successfully).

Also, if one turns on the game but do not hit "start", one can see the demo mode of the game, which reveals quite a bit of how to play the game.

Don't listen to folks who might have told you this is a hard game. From what I have seen: Easy level is too easy for a 4-year old kid; Hard level is also winnable to him, who has managed to finish about > 50% of the game by himself (after watching a grown-up play).

Just buy the game, you won't regret.

Good luck & have fun.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK
The "It's a Piece of Cake" level is was too easy, I think it might be for toddlers and in the "It's No Picnic" level I can't get past the first level because I can't find out how to get past the huge plant. When I try to jump over him he eats me. Rent this game before buying it and if you get past the plant can ya tell me how?

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this game. Buy this game. Buy this game NOW!
This game belongs to the top 5% of all arcade/adventure games for kids, in my humble opinion.

Based on the same storylines in the famous comic series about the smurfs, this game involved a smurf who went on a journey from his village, day and night, across the mountains, down the valleys, into the caves, under the water, fighting snakes, monsters, etc..., to save his fellow smurfs, and ultimately the baby smurf. His final goal, of course, is to defeat Gargamel, his wicked opponent.

No violence. To beat your "obstacles", just jump on/over them (no shooting or hitting involved). Players learn to estimate the distances to jump across obstacles, which is probably a good thing for kids who play the game. BEAUTIFUL 3-D graphics and animation, great game plan, great playability, great music, and more.

In brief, "FIVE-STAR!". Strongly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars smurfs
Hello, I purchased this game for young children and found that it was easy to understand, and non violent(on the most part). My 5 year old sat forhours and loved it.She found that she could do the levels by herselfwhich made her very happy. Most games are hard for the little ones of thehome, but this one is a + for the younger children. My older kids arestill playing it too and think it is okay.Very cute pictures.Wouldrecommend for the smaller playstation users. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ya
im jus gon put a review... might not be to good but its entirely true... its a lil buyest:-p red alert 1 was is n alwayz will be my favorite game.... the only reason i didnt get it for the computer was bc i run on XP n it only runs on 95,98, and me but i also have PS2 so i was so genius n i got it for PS1 bc the graphics r worse but its still the same fun fun fun fun game!!!... presonally i think this is the best game westwood ever came out with... too bad they didnt make one with better graphics and playable on XP:-p (red alert 2 is not as good if u ask me but get it:) its still fun and it has better graphics... but i would prefer and red alert XP..)

4-0 out of 5 stars Oh, The Computer was better.
This game is an awsome one, but it is much hardder on the Playstation. I lost an entire army before i got to make my wall. But it is almost exactly like the PC version. I would say rent before you buy. (And I LOVE the attack dogs, they rock!)

1-0 out of 5 stars This game is terrible
If you're thinking of getting this game, DON'T! For one thing, it's impossible. I was playing Skrimish mode (where you build up your forces and the last man standing wins) and I got overrrun by large enemy forces before I even had time to build a War Factory. I coulnd't possibly have built as much stuff as they did in that short an amount of time. Also, the missions take a really long time (1 hour or more for some) but you can't save in the middle of the mission. I strongly reccomend that you try this game before you buy it, because you probalby won't like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars command & conquer red alert
command & conquer is a great game its been around a while but i have meet people who have bought some of the best games ever and taken it back just to get command & conquer red alert 1 & 2 and they say it is the best choice they have ever made once you start you can't stop playing the longer you wait on each level the more impressive the people/machines on the 3rd level you can get invisible tanks

4-0 out of 5 stars best marvel capcom made
i've played all the capcom maevel games and this is the best the hulk is actually green .not pink or grey but green like he is suposed to be.the rounds go fast

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best 2D fighters on the original Playstation
I still remember when I first bought this game back in 1997.It was when I first got my PS and I wasn't disappointed.

The graphics were pretty crisp and clear and it had a nice little selection of playable characters including Spiderman, Iron Man, The Hulk, Psylocke, Wolverine and others. For those who played Marvel vs. Capcom 2 before this one, the movement may feel a little slow to you. However, this was the first of the Marvel vs. Capcom style games so don't expect it to be as good as MVC2.

The default controls for this game are the easiest to work with of any of the Marvel titles. You'll find it easy to learn and it fits the PS controller perfectly.Air combos can be pulled off easily but it may take a while for some to learn how to do them.

On this game you'll find that the characters hyper combos are much more powerful than they are on MVC2.However, since this was the first of these type of fighter games, the characters have less moves to execute. The thing that really separates this game from all of the others is the Gems. There are 6 Gems that you may use during battle and different ones have different effects on certain characters. For example when Juggernaut uses the space gem, he turns silver and gains super armor. When Psylocke uses the Power gems she creates 3 copies of herself so then it's like fighting 3 of them at once. The final boss on this game is Thanos. He's better than the boss on the other Marvel titles because he's actually a challenge. He automatically starts the match with all 6 gems and he also has 6 different hyper combos he can do with each gem. Also this game actually has endings for the characters and the music is superior to all of the other titles except for Marvel vs. Street Fighter.

I recommend you buy this game if you can find it for a reasonable price. You won't be disappointed. It may seem outdated for those who played MVC2 before playing this but it's still enjoyable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Takes me back!
Don't you remember the times about 7 or so years ago before the vs. games like X-Men Vs. Street Fighter or Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter were out, when you were at your local mall's arcade room, and you spent so much time and needed money on this one game everyone was lining up to play, you kept winning and no one could beat you, you had a blast and you ruled the arcade, you used the Amazing Spider-Man, or Good Ol' Stars and Stripes himself, Captain America, and maybe a little Incredible Hulk was throw in just to show off your skills with multiple players, and you used the Infamouse Yellow, Blue, Green, and all other Gems you could get your hands on to build Speed, Strength, Power, Defence and pretty much eveything else with your character! Well I do, and I was so stocked when it came out, and now you can bring those great feelings back with the PSX Version of this classic fighter from Capcom!

Well, I did, and heres what I think!

Gameplay: Almost arcade perfect with minimal slowdowns, barely noticeable, and you can still pull off everything in here that was possible in the arcade version.

Sound(Music and Voice Track): Perfect, no muffled voices that match perfectly to all characters, and music is still here(and still rules)with no remixes(Thank God)! Music plays just like you would here it in the arcade(if you were you were lucky enough to here it in the arcade, and I actually did many a time)!

Graphics: Great considering the Ram limitations of the PSX(like that was a problem for this game in the 1st place), and they were done with POLYGONS, yes, POLYGONS!

Characters: You get a line up of the following characters:
1. Spider-Man (My favorite! "Maximum Spider!")

2. Captain America ("Justice Will Prevail")

3. The Incredible Hulk (What's to say, he's a "Monster" hahahahahaha...sorry.)

4. Magneto (He rules and can pull off great comboes!)

5. Wolverine (The cheep one)

6. Juggernaut (He's huge and probably deel's more than anyone!)

7. Iron Man (With the Infamouse "Proton Cannon!")

8. Blackheart (A good and Cheep caharacter, but not as much as Wolvie.)

9. Psylocke (One of my favorite X-men, and overall choice over Wolvie, to bad Gambit wasn't included.)

10. Shuma-Gorath (Not used by me, but still deel's damage needed to prevail in this game.)

Over-All: If I could, a 9.3/10.0, but I can't, so 4 out of 5, the reason being, could have been one point better if it weren't for the PSX limitations, but man, that definetly didn't stop me from getting it AT ALL! GET IT IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT!!

Thank's to Amazon.com for posting this review and YOU for reading it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
I bought this game and I thought this game was so cool. The characters are so detailed and the selection is not bad.It has everyone that is mostly liked.Captain America is the best in the Marvel Universe and in this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Infinity War!!!
Marvel Super Heroes, Capcom and Marvel's 1995 follow-up to 1994's X-men: Children of the Atom, is basically another clone of their groundbreaking Street Fighter II fighting engine.Overall a bunch of elements come together with this game to make a fun and enjoyable "beat `em up" game.

THE FIGHTING ENGINE:

Again, this is basically another "Street Fighter" clone, with different characters, etc.The reliable Street Fighter engine, while repetitive is still fun.The game level difficulty is "just right."It's easy to beat the game but still SOMEWHAT challenging but at the same time not difficult to the point where it frustrates.Like a good Street Fighter clone, combatants can duke it out as well toss a fireballs and beams and other assorted weapons at each other.

THE STORY:

Marvel Super Heroes' game storyline is roughly based upon the Marvel Comics "Infinity Gems/Infinity War" storyline where 10 of Earth's greatest heroes (and villains) seek to recover (or steal) the all-powerful Infinity Gems from the Evil Thanos of Titan, who is bent on destroying the universe with their power.

THE FIGHTERS:

You can choose from these following Marvel Super Heroes (and Villains):

1. Wolverine (of X-men fame)

2. Spider-Man (of Spider-Man fame)

3. The Incredible Hulk (of Hulk fame)

4. Captain America (of Avengers fame)

5. Iron Man (ditto)

6. Psylocke (from X-men)

7. Shuma-Gorath (noted Marvel Universe villain)

8. Blackheart (ditto)

9. Juggernaut (of X-men fame)

10. Magneto (ditto)

GAME MODES:

This is a straight-forward game with two modes:Arcade (you vs. the computer for 8 battles) and Vs. (you vs. a friend).

WHAT SETS THIS GAME APART:

The one thing that DOES set this game apart from its "Street Fighter" clone brethren is the integration of the Infinity Gems into actual game play.Through each fight stage (8 altogether) your character fights to recover a single Infinity Gem from each opponent. The gems can be used in each fight to "power-up" your fighter.

THE VERDICT:

Overall, though this game is dated, it is still quite fun.If you're into Marvel comics you'll enjoy the storyline as well as the action of the game. The Marvel/Capcom line did evolve from here with 4 other releases (with more on the way) including:X-men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and the Marvel vs. Capcom series of games.

In all though, this game is still worth the playtime.

Editorial Review

It looks like them Duke boys are in a heap o' trouble, and it's up to you to lend 'em a neighborlyhand. Based on the long-running television series, this game is a stunt-driving bonanza featuring all yourfavorite characters, including Bo, Luke, and Daisy Duke, Uncle Jesse, Boss Hog, Cooter, Enos, and thememorable sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane. Most of the original cast members have lent their voice-actingtalents to the game, including the narrator, Waylon Jennings.

The opening sequence and cutscenes between each level are 3-D-rendered dead ringers for the televisionshow, making it worthy of consideration for collectors. Driving missions are simple and fun, with high-flying ravine jumps and dirt-road power-slides. Get behind the wheel of the General Lee (yes, it has thecustomized horn), Daisy's Jeep, Cooter's tow truck, and Uncle Jesse's infamous moonshine-runner, BlackTillie.

Control is not as exacting as it should be, but the CB radio banter and the silliness of it all carry the gamefar beyond its gameplay. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Good re-creation of the television series
  • Missions ripped straight from the show such as "get the mortgage to Boss Hog before the bankcloses"
  • Fun stunt driving
Cons:
  • The game's challenge lies in its lack of control
  • Gameplay is very repetitive

4-0 out of 5 stars The Dukes of Hazzard: Racing For Home
This game is fun. The car handling isn't the greatest, but the game makes up for it with how much fun it is. It's not your modern day awesome graphics strategy game, but it's still cool to be able to drive the General Lee at 90 mph down a dirt road while running from sheriff Roscoe. If you're into classic games, and are looking for something to do, you should definately play this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome!
well, even though i'm a girl, i've always loved dukes of hazzard. i've always wanted to be in the general lee with bo and luke and daisy. that's why i like this game. you can drive the general lee, and other cars, and pretend to be bo or luke or whoever your favourite character is. anyway, this is my favourite playstation game and i really encourage you to buy it. it's great.

5-0 out of 5 stars TONS OF FUN
You gotta play this!!! You run away from cops, battle bad guys, and race for victory!!! This is one of the best games and you should get it, too!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Graphics
I want some fun in this game and I want to be thrilled the Dukes could not show me a good time if they crashedthe General lewis into my chicken coop (small joke) no but honestly violence is the perfect answer in video games where is the BLOOD! Arthur P. NevellSan Antonio Texas

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Hazzard.
The DUKES OF HAZZARD was one of my favorite television shows when I was a young kid. It had everything a kid wanted in a television show cool cars, awesome car chases, cops, bad guys, good looking country chicks, etc. Therefore, I bought this game more out of nostalgia than anything else. Nevertheless, I did enjoy playing it. The game was pretty easy except in the scenes when you are driving Young Jesse's car. Antique cars don't drive very well in real life and they drive even worse in video games. The animation isn't too bad (for a 1st generation Playstation game) and the car chase scenes spaced throughout the story are just plain awesome. This is a good game for beginning gamers, anyone who likes car chase games, and any fans of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Ever want to try your hand at making games? Now Agetec has delivered atimeless masterpiece that will help many gamers fulfill their dream ofconstructing a video game--albeit a role-playing game--from scratch.

With RPG Maker for the PlayStation, would-be game designers can finallycreate their own digital world. All you need is a PlayStation, a littleimagination, a lot of time, and you can create your own Final Fantasy,Ogre Battle, or Dragon Warrior adventure--sort of. It takes teamsof 50 to 100 people two to three years to design and create the RPGs that weplay today. If you think you've got the patience to do it on your own, then thisgame (or should we say set of tools) has a lot to offer.

Write, design, and control everything from the story line to dungeon designs, toorganizing and constructing the towns in your game. You can even choose itemlocations, weapons, and enemy hit-point totals. Such standard, modern-day RPGelements are all at your disposal here. For those who really want to go for allthe gusto, you can design and animate your own characters from scratch! Theanimation quality doesn't approach a Disney level, but at least the option isthere.

This isn't a plug-and-play type of title; it will take you quite some time justto figure out where you want to start. If you don't have the patience to play atraditional RPG to the finish, then you might want to pass on RPG Maker. For everyone else, there's no better place to start! --Todd Mowatt

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
I picked this game up from my local hobby shop because I was bored.

Its pretty much what the title says, you can make your own RPGs.It easy to use once you get used to it and you can make some nice looking RPGs once you get used to the way it works. It comes witha sample game to show you how a game should work(or will).

Overall though it can become a little frustrating creating some maps.Theres a large selection of tiles that dont seem to be arranged in any particular order, you'll save yourself alot of time if you can find one of them PS1 mouses. I also recomend picking a keyboard, unless of course you like typing everything out by on screen keyboard.

The game dosnt have a whole lot of premade stuff, enough to make a short RPG, but if you going for a 10+ hour one then no.So luckly they gave you an ANIME creator, which let you create you own charcters and monsets(also tedious without a mouse). OF course if your like me you'll be a poor drawer and make some odd looking things.

Overall it not to bad, but if you have a PS2, and $20 I recomend to buy RPG Maker 2, it has 3D graphics and more in-depth editing. But w/e, it your choice.

I was a little concrened when I first bought this game.I had heard that it is very hard to understand, but I found it very easy!Reading the manuals and finding a good walkthrough site, such as www.gamefaqs.com, can make this game a cinch!Just be prepared to dedicate over 100 hours to your game to make it good. Also, it eats memory like it was nothing, so clean out a memory card before you buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars super
this game is reallly coo' just think, make ur own final fantasy game

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Still
For those of you who are thinking about investing time into RPG MAKER 2, this game is just like that. There is one difference... RPG MAKER 1 is for 2d games. If you like 2d games, you can make a bunch. You can customize characters, monsters, backgrounds, titles, scripts, events(triggers), effects, dungeons, towns, spells, attacks, items, and more. You could create a pretty cool 2d adventure. There are a few drawbacks.

Yes it is time consuming. If you learn how to use the editor properly, you should be able to do things fast. You don't need to be an artist to make characters, but that takes time. Use the implemented ones. As for typing. I tried on the controller, but it removes all joy from the game. GET A KEYBOARD FOR YOUR PS2! It costs 20 bucks. Go to search and type "logitech keyboard". Find the one for ps2 and get that first. Memory. That is another fault. Buy like a 5 dollar memory card with space. One custom character takes one block. Game data can go from 2-3 blocks. The sample game which is kinda boring takes 2 blocks i believe. You will probably stop playing it after a while. It gets hard.

This game is good. There are a few drawbacks, but it is great for people who want to create their own rpg. If you have a friend you could swap memory cards, and play each other's rpgs.

If you want 3d, get RPG MAKER 2. If you want 2d, get RPG MAKER 1. If you take the time to learn the editor and have a keyboard you will be fine on time. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

While Star Trek: Invasion never quite reaches the lofty heightsof the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekker.

Set in the time line of the Next Generation TV and film series, Invasion has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only Trek race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Speaking of the Trek gang, actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production.

The visuals in Invasion are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are topnotch. The music, however, is painfully repetitive. Disturbingly, the controls in Invasion are way too sensitive for all but the most die-hard space jockeys. The Valkyrie space fighters often make too wide a turn, resulting in constant misfires and untimely deaths.

Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of Star Trek, Invasion does lack the Colony Wars games' level of intense, gritty combat, and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser blast-filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Lovely graphics push the PlayStation to its limits
  • Excellent voice acting all around
  • Easy to get into
Cons:
  • Awkward controls
  • Light story line doesn't compete with standout games in this genre
  • Too few missions

They usually make Star Trek games for computers, I'm glad they made this one for PS1. It's a great fighter pilot type game. It's also cool how they included the voices of Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn!

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
Well let's start with the basics. Very good graphics for a Playstation game. The game play gets a little tedious after a while. It's just flying through space and blowing things up, over and over and over and over again. The music is so repetitious that I kept flying my Valkyrie into things just to die. But then again it can be fun if you're looking for a game with explosions and sometimes extremely difficult missions. For the most part the game is entertaining, but if you get stuck in a mission, you'll be stabbing pencils in your ears to get away from the musical scores in this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game has to be the best in my collection!!!
I know,I know, theres not a lot of levels in this game, but you can still have a ton of fun! I gave this game 5 stars because of it's amazing graphics and awesome controls. (except for one ship) When you look at the game cover at the top of the page, you see what looks like 3 ships shooting things at a whole army of ships. If you think the weapons on the cover are cool, just wait until you see the OTHER weapons. My point is, if you love Star Trek and love shooting down other ships, then this is the game for you! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS MY ALL TME FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME
Hello, I have had this game for about a year. Oh, if you are having trouble on that giant battle tank mission try flying on top of it and destroying the missile launcher first then shoot at the cannons(this also works on that submarine level near the begining. well, I have beaten the first disk and I am working on the second disk. I use the quad laser cannon and the laser rifle and the moonlight laser blade, some people think that brute force can't win in this game but I haven't had a problem yet. Buy this game NOW or face the wrath of guilt or something. The souff elff has spoken.

5-0 out of 5 stars Armored Core Masters of Arena
Hmmm... Well, This game is the same tired formula of the two previous games mixed into one giant package.I enjoyed this game, not because of the great missions, not because of almost endless battles, but the thing that most impressed me was the ability of ultimate customization of your mech.(I built all the gundams and tallgeese, and the dolls!) The options are almost limitless, as you can build the aformentioned. The site to do this is www.gamewinners.com.just go into playstation games, and you'll find it.eventually.Back to the game, The graphics are somewhat mediocre, the controls are somewhat murky, and the number of missions are inexusible.(19? please.) But, in light of all these flaws, This game is either rentable or purchaseable.do either as soon as possible, or if you have a playstation 2, BUY armored core 2: another age. It's just like Project Phantasma.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Mech Game- PS. Its a Gundam!!
Hey, I have this game and it is incredible. The hardness factor of the boards is about average and is very fun.

Best part is you can create any Mechs you want.

I found out that you can create the Gundams! I have created them so don't tell me its not possible. If you want to email me my email is gundamiceblade@yahoo.com

I would say that it is best used with the Iteract Controller because then you can use the joystick in it. I feel that this game is incredible. You would be lost with out it.

The only better game is. AC 2, but if you only have PSX get AC MoA!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars armored core is a good game for mech fans
i got this game cuz i wanted one like gundam wing but i didnt have a DC i only rocomend it for hardnore mech fans

5-0 out of 5 stars Rchangel(+)
I want this to be sort of a last word on this game.If you have any background in mecha combat, anime, or simply good taste you will like this game. The degree to which you will like this game varies directly withyour affinity for those things which i have mentioned. The game itself isgood. The graphics are on, the sound isn't spectacular, but it does thejob. The storylie is imaginative and involving and the mechanics (menus, loading, disc swapping) are all just fine.If you are picking this game upas your first in the series you will have to work hard. Some of thecomplaints i see on other reviews about battling are based on the fact thatnew players are fighting Plus+ es.As far as i know you can only become aplus in the first game. All that speed, boosting power, magical radar,DEADLY laserblade that shoots stuff is earned by becoming a plus, not tomention launching overweight, overpowered mechs which i enjoy all the time. Spending your time in the first couple games collecting equipment andearning special abilities comes in very handy in MOA.I noticed in EXArena all of the battles in humanoid legs are pretty easy until the last. It's like this.If any player got my mech together (16 slot core, heavy arms, medium humanoid legs, moonlight saber, finger machine gun,tri-barreled lookin' back weapon, slug gun, wide fcs, dynamite generator, best boosters(i can't bother with the exact stats)), and fought the kind ofpower boosting, weapon switching, six missle dodging, machine gunning, laserblading, smoking firestorm of a battle that i did, they wouldn'tcomplain. This game rules. If you like mechs If you like anime/japanesestyle combat(front mission, gundam, patlabor, votoms, voltron, zeyromer, etc.) You will love this game.Whiners with no experience, ambition, and appreciation for a decent game and the whole giant robot phenomenonneed not apply. ... It's probably just me, but this video game doesn't fit my taste like the old-school games do.The 'excitement' found here is nothing compared to a wedding reception or a high-school prom (depending on what moves you make).Plus, only segments of the songs are included. This could be better if the whole song was played. At least that's my opinion.

I found it watching others participate, but I've been forced to give it a try to one of the 'slower' songs. Not many moves. Not too much fun.

This game seems okay if you want a good workout.I'm not bashing this game.In contrast, it might grow on me over time.Right now, I ... I may be too old-fashioned.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweat to the Beat...
First off, let me get the one bad point out of the way. I don't like the music. It's okay and I didn't expect better from a dance game but it just isn't to my taste.

Okay, now all the good. If played diligently, this game will work on your rhythm, reflexes, stamina and timing. I even found it easy to push myself into playing 3 times longer after I started getting tired and actually felt like I was dancing after just a few hours. A few of the levels are easy enough for a beginner but I would recomend taking real dance lessons if you can get through the harder ones.

And finally the technical. This game has a wide range of options on how you can play with it's game, workout, lesson, and trining modes. Each with verying difficulties. Combine this with it's 25+ songs and you should never get board playing it.

It's an all around great game so get your hand out of that bag of crisps and dance!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this game to death!
This is one of the best games I've ever played. My brother got it for Christmas and I've already beat all 32 levels.(Only on easy, though.) Its really fun (and quite addictive!). If you're tryingto lose weight, theres a "workout mode" that tracks how many calories you burn. Its an awesome game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to love dance
This dance is alot of fun!

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring... and no good songs.
Yes, it's actually worse than arcade mix 3... they really didn't include any of the good songs.Luckily there are other games like Konamix and DDRMAX out already so you don't have to bother with this one.Features the horrible original revolving discs interface. ... Read more

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater from Activision became a megahit lastfall. Since then, dozens of companies have tried to bring fringe sports likesurfing, sky diving, and other "me, too" extreme sports titles to market, andall of them looking to cash in on the craze. Up until now, none have matched thequality or replayability of Tony Hawk, and only a small few have comeclose, including this month's challenger, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX fromAcclaim.

Instead of using a skateboard to race against the clock and perform dangerousmidair stunts for points and prestige, this game is all about daredevil BMX bikeriding, so that players can aim to pull off a "Superman," "Icepick," "Tailwhip,"or "Toothpick." In total, there are over a dozen unique environments, such asCamp Woodward's backbreaking "Lot 8" or the San Jose Ramp Club, to name two.

First, players must select their rider of choice, be it repeated World Championbiker Dave Mirra, 1999 Dirt Circuit Champion Ryan Nyquist, or eight other starsof the sport. Each of the riders enjoys his own signature moves, plus even moreriders can be unlocked over time. However, there is no create-a-player feature,as there is with a few other games of this kind.

Fortunately, controlling the rider is a cinch to learn for younger or novicegamers, and there's enough substance here to keep players pedaling long afterthe goals are met. In fact, along with the "Free Ride" mode, the timed "Session"mode, and the challenging, career-based "Proquest" mode, there are 10 differenttwo-player games, including our favorite, dubbed "B-M-X", in which the secondplayer has to mimic the first rider's moves (remember basketball's H-O-R-S-Evariant?).

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX's visuals are only satisfactory, with nothingreally to kick heels about. The 3-D engine brings a few annoying screen"pop-ups" (objects and backgrounds awkwardly disappear on occasion, as ridersmove in relation to the "camera") and "clipping" problems (in which the ridergets stuck mysteriously) that probably could've been ironed out with a few moreweeks in development. And, while the midair stunts and crashes look painfullyreal, the game also seems to lack a convincing sensation of speed.

But, even with its shortcomings, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX is a rad BMXarcade sim that proves that the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, whilestill the king, is not the only game in town. --Todd Mowatt

Pros:

  • Controls are easy to learn
  • Great two-player games
Cons:
  • Annoying "pop-up" and "clipping" problems
  • No create-a-player feature

3-0 out of 5 stars A good game
Ok so here is the deal. I bought this game on amazon, took it out of the box, and started to play. I noticed the graphics were very bad but the game is pretty neat. Over all, this game is worth every penny you pay.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre title
It's common for game developers to borrow ideas from other popular games - in hopes that their own game receives the same kind of widespread success. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX represents Acclaim's attempt to cash in on the extreme sports phenomenon started by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and, as a result, the basic game mechanics should seem very familiar to fans of the skateboarding game. To its credit, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX introduces some new elements to the extreme sports subgenre. Unfortunately, the game has a number of both major and minor flaws. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX's options are typical of an extreme sports game. The proquest mode is essentially a career mode that lets you select from a lineup of the world's best BMX freestylists to play as. It also lets you earn new sponsored clothing, new levels, and new bikes. Each track has a series of objectives that start at an amateur difficulty level and then steadily increase in difficulty after you complete them. In fact, the default bike just isn't good enough for accomplishing some of the later, more difficult objectives, so there is substantial incentive for obtaining faster and more maneuverable bikes. Even so, the proquest mode may be a little too easy for extreme sports veterans, since the game visibly highlights the obstacles associated with objectives you need to complete. However, this should be a welcome feature for those who are new to the genre. The game's two remaining modes - freeride and session - are practice modes in which you can race around on a track, with or without a time limit. Unfortunately, these modes are mostly worthless for practicing in, since some tracks - particularly the backyard pools area - constantly change as new areas open up and as you complete more objectives. The gameplay in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX is solid, if perhaps lacking in originality. Just as in Tony Hawk, pressing a series of button combinations makes you perform tricks on your bike. The more complicated your combination is, the more points you receive. Unfortunately, even executing the simplest trick isn't as easy as it should be. The first problem is that when you're facing the camera, you have to press "up" to turn your bike around. In theory, it's the ideal way to address camera problems, but in practice, the sluggish controls really prevent this maneuver from being useful. Another minor problem is the game's collision detection. Most of the time, it's easy to judge your distance from the ground or from an obstacle, which makes trick execution ideal. However, there are times when your bike seems to clearly miss an obstacle, but you'll still crash as though you ran right into it. The inconsistent collision detection also becomes a problem when you attempt to perform grinds - sometimes your bike can connect with an obstacle from an unrealistic distance, and other times, you need to be very precise and land right on the object you want to grind. Visually, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX is on par with other multiplatform ports of extreme sports games. A few impressive textures appear here and there, like on the various riders' helmets, but the rest of them are fairly bland and pixelated. The bike rider models are not incredibly detailed, but there are enough subtle differences to help you recognize the differences among each of the riders. Oddly enough, even though the various environments and the character models are essentially taken straight from the PlayStation version of the game, slowdown and drops in frame rate can still be a major problem in areas with numerous objects. The slowdown usually dissipates after a second or two, but it can affect gameplay, especially if you want to perform a complicated trick in a detailed area during the last seconds of the round. The game has plenty of other small visual problems as well, like the crash animations. Since there are no pre-scripted crash animations, your rider will just go flying like a limp rag doll whenever you hit something. It's humorous at times; however, it's generally very awkward and unrealistic.
Other than the proquest mode, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX doesn't have much else to offer. There are no multiplayer modes, which is unfortunate since most of the latest extreme sports games have found ways to incorporate different types of multiplayer modes, either online or on a single computer. In the end, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX can be fun, but the occasional problems with the graphics and collision detection can quickly become a source of unnecessary frustration.

Amazon.com Review

The fourth installment in the series that created the survival-horrorgenre, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare doesn't quite live up to itslegacy, as it more often than not resembles a shoddy knockoff of the franchisethat has since defined the genre, Resident Evil.

You can play The New Nightmare as either Edward Carnby, a paranormalprivate investigator and poster boy for the series, or Aline Cedrac, a collegeprofessor and requisite video game babe. As in Resident Evil 2, theprotagonists cross paths but have separate adventures within the main story, which, in this case, involves evil supernatural forces at work on theappropriately (but unimaginatively) named Shadow Island.

Although The New Nightmare uses the genre-standard, third-person,fixed-camera viewpoint, it adds a twist by bathing most of its detailed, predrawn 3-Dbackgrounds in darkness, and then equipping the player with a controllableflashlight. Not only does this create some rather impressive lighting effects, but it also heightens the sense of fear that is further fueled by the game'sominous music and sounds.

Unfortunately, the rest of The New Nightmare isn't very inspired. Itsunderdeveloped controls are on par with the first Resident Evil, whichmight not be so bad if not for that fact that this combat-light game has youtediously running around looking for keys to match its many nondescript lockeddoors, as well as trying to find solutions to vague puzzles that all too oftenleave you in the dark. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Play as either of two protagonists, each in a separate adventure
  • Impressive lighting effects
  • Effectively ominous music and sounds
Cons:
  • Awkward viewpoints
  • Clumsy, underdeveloped controls
  • Gameplay is more often tedious than challenging

This game is the best i love it I thoght at the first of the game when aline meet that old woman that was scary the whole game is creepy i love games like this so if u like scary games go out and buy it you wont be sorry

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't play it alone when the lights are out!!!!!
I love this game! It has the music, the gore, and the terror to make this one of the best survival-horror games of all time! You can choose between two characters that you would like to be and each of them take different areas. Has creatures like rabid dogs, bugs, spiders, plants, zombies, ect. The music can be very scary just like the music for the Resident Evil series. The terror is unspeakably evil. You can go into a room and look for stuff. Then all of a sudden the lights will go out and you will see images of zombies only for a second. ...go on to the next room. This game is about as scary as Resident Evil, or Clock Tower gets. When things just pop out that is only a fraction of the horror in this game. It does challenge you with tough puzzles especially the library. This game lives up to being one of the best surrvival horror games for 2001! I like the Resident Evil series but, they are starting to loose their touch. Get this game unless you are to afraid to play it alone in the dark! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

3-0 out of 5 stars It was OK, but not as good as the other reviews say it is!
In a sense, the game does have good lighting and use of the shadowing, but it just didn't scare me that much. Maybe, that is because I have been through the horror in other games such as Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and other games in the survival-horror genre and already have experienced that.I find though that the monsters in some parts were not that frightening like the shadow monsters in the attic area.Althogh there was a somewhat frightening effect added with the monster in the water towards the beginning of the game. There wasn't that much to offer, though.I recommend the games from the Resident Evil series over this and the Dino Crisis series. They have a scarier vibe.I don't recommend playing the Silent Hill series because it is just crap with cheap monster and overly dramatic effects, which detract from any horror of the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALONE IN THE DARK-RESIDENT EVIL
This game is great. If you like the Resident Evil games or Dino Crisis you'll love this game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome adventure game
This is the best adventure/action game ever.I love it.I was so sad when I beat it because I didn't want to start all over.Everyone who loves adventure and action should get Tomba 2.I don't have Tomba, the first one, but I want to get it soon.Tomba is the coolest character of all time.Tomba 2 is my most favorite game in the world.I even like it better than all the PS2 games.Even if it is a PSone game, it beats all of the playstation 2 games.Once I beat Tomba, I will write a review for that one too.So why don't you go see it sometime.TOMBA 2 IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ok, but dumb at times
If your looking for a great sequel to a great game, this isn't it. While it may have some of original gameplay, you could hardly call it a sequel. the puzzles are harder (which i like.)
but the controls and plot suck. COLLECTING GOLDEN CRABS?!?! WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?! AND, WHATS WITH THE SUITS?! it was FINE as it was. so, get it if you liked the first one, get it for the sake of being a TOMBA! fan. otherwise, forget it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but the original is better
This was a fun game and some of the puzzles were really tough. However, I found that they attempted to make the game easier for kids by adding spoken dialog.(hint- TURN THE VOCAL DIALOG OFF if you don't want to be annoyed!- there are 3 people who do ALL the voices, and they don't try to hide it very well) Another thing I found annoying was the music- anytime you came to the start of a new challenge, the music became VERY dramatic(drama-queenish)and then suddly reverts to a very subdued backtrack.
Overall, it's a fun game, the graphics are good, but TOMBA, the original game is MUCH better, and lasted a lot longer.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great Return of Tomba
If you love the original Tomba from Whoopee Camp, you'll love this more!!

And if you think that this is a 3D game, you're incorrect because this is only a 2D platform game but it offers a lot of colorful graphics and delightful, humorous characters..
There are more puzzles to conquer and more "treasures" to find..To beat the game, you have to finish the events, find some crystals, which'll add to Tomba's AP total..It may make you dizzy but the act of playing is worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best yet!!!!!!!
i own tomba and tomba 2. boy what a difference, t-2 is so much more organized in t-1 you go back and forth so many times it gets boring , but in t-2 it is way better. plus they talk and write the words on the screen so it is easier to understand for younger kids who cant read as well. if you have to choose this is the one but if you have t-1 and are considering buying t-2 don't hesitate, you won't regret it!!!!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Game Is Great, Host Stinks
Just like the TV show, the actual game is great but Louie Anderson is the worst. Ugh. I love playing the game but it goes kinda slow and it takes forever to actually start playing. Now that Family Feud has a great new host, I hope a new edition of the game will be released soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Louie is a pain...
I was looking forward to this game as I love playing game shows on the PS. However, the graphics are slow in loading and not impressive and Louie is just down right annoying. I would skip this one if I was you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Family Feud
We bought this game after buying Super Scattergories because it was by the same company and we thought it would be fun. It is very borin and slow paced. What I can't figure out is why it is still available but Super Scattergories-the funnest computer game in the world--is no longer made.

2-0 out of 5 stars Let's Play The Feud!....sort of.
This game could have been a lot better.First off there is no returning champion mode (just like the new Feud right now.)Second the music on the game is horrible.I though it would have the FF '99 theme but it just a lot of keyboard crap.Just think if Richard Dawson or Ray Combs were still hosting the Feud this game would have been 100% better with returning champions,Bullseye or the famous Family Feud music heard in the 70's to early 90's Still it's a good game to play with a lot of people and Louie Anderson actually made me crack up a few times. The Family Feud game (1994) for the 3DO is still much better. ... THE SESAME STREET REJECTS RETURN FOR THEIR FINAL OUTING IN THIS, THE LAST OF THE TRILOGY.ALTHOUGH THE BEST OUT OF THE SERIES, IT HAS ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF NEW FLAVOR AND PLAYS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THE LAST TWO.Warning, no Guncon included with this purchase.

Some couldn't wait for the 2000 release of the last Point Blank game in the series. What's new?Well how about 80 brand new mini-games.Point Blank 3 includes 5 different modes of play, including arcade, endurance, versus, party, and training mode. This is the best party game available on the Playsation game console still. The trade mark gameplay is still here along with the same screwball characters, new characters, stages, and themes.Replay value tends to drop after owning it for a little while, but it will always remain good fun.Fun for all kids and adults alike.

If you purchased and enjoy this title also try Point Blank 1 & 2, and the Time Crisis series.I also written reviews for these games as well here at Amazon.

This is one of the best shooters with one of the best multi-player modes ever and 80+ games the fun never ends!!! If you dont get a guncon (witch is a playstation light gun) the game is horrible. But with a Guncon it is the perfect game!

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate PArty GAme
If you need a game for lots of people with tons of replay level, then the Point Blank Series is the one for you. For all of you wondering, this game does work with the PS2 because thats what im using it on. And forgot about buying this game without the Guncon because then you would think that game is the most stupidest game ever. The Guncon is the most accurate gun out there for the Playstations because it actually connects to your tv and takes a "snapshot" of the screen. This lets it have accuracy down to one pixel. Well on to the game. The game is very fun. It is a shooting gallery type of game were there are 80 games. There is NO LOAD TIME. I did not see any. It is a great game so if you have the money and the need for a great multiplayer game, then this is for you. WARNING: Do not buy this game if you do not plan on getting the GunCon or if you are only going to play it by yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Target Shooting Game Yet
This game is great. You get to shoot tons of stuff in over 80 different levels. There's even a level based on the arcade game Galaxian. You must buy this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good game
It's a fun game and it does not take a long time to learn. The music gets anoing after a while but it's great to play witha friend and is is worth buying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
this is the best hockey game i've ever played for playstation. even better than all of the new ones, although i havent tried any ps2 games yet. i would recomend buying THIS hockey game for playstation, and not the others. its got good graphics, and really good controls. u can choose from any NHL team.

5-0 out of 5 stars Erik S's Review
NHL Face-Off 2001 is a great game. It seems like you are controlling a real game. You have a good selection of shots and the sound effects are killer. I have to say this the best hockey game on the market.

3-0 out of 5 stars This Years Best PS1 Hockey Game, But That's Not Saying Much.
Hockey titles on the Playstation just aren't too good this year.NHL 2001 by EA Sports was not a good title.989 Studios has finally bested the hockey battle this season, but that's not saying too much.

The good. It's hockey. The gameplay is done very well.Control is excellent, goalies are very realistic, line changes are unique (there's a button to change your forwards, and a different button to change your defensemen).Scoring goals is realistic where if you have a defensive breakdown, you're going to give up goals (you let someone wind a slapshot in the slot and your goalie will most likely get beat). However, great goalies do cover their own with some amazing saves after they give up bad rebounds--whereas lesser goalies will most likely give up a rebound goal with no defensive help. The play-by-play is done well with one of the best in Mike Emerik. There's even Zambonies bewteen periods and the three-stars-of-the-game and introduced when the game ends.

The bad.Well, this game looks terrible. With the exception of the "C" and "A's" on certain jerseys, the players and goalies look underdone and blocky.Player animation is beyond chopy, and the sounds are the worst I've ever heard in a hockey game ("Go Baby, Go"??? And hitting the post sounds pathetic--sounds similiar to a coffee mug being tapped with a spoon).Line changes are unique, but they are done poorly and slow--Every player exiting the ice during play uses the trap door? Not to mention the puck usually goes out of play along with the players going to the bench via the trap door. One of the biggest problems is the sim mode when in season play. You had better turn off injuries or you'll eventually be in trouble. How?You are only allowed 17 players on your roster! There's no "dressing" and "scratching" players for games like in EA's NHL series, you need to sub injured players with players already on other lines. How stupid is that?!?There are so many player missing in this game, it's upsetting. Also, color commentary is poorly done.Darren Pang is one of the best at doing this, but it's just not done well in this game.As for the voice acting?Just try to ignore the public address announcer--the worst I've ever heard next to Faceoff '97.The fighting is terrible in this game (guys who NEVER fight are dropping the gloves on a regular basis.I've gotten in fights against Paul Kariya--what's that all about?).Winning face-offs is a breeze (this game needs EA's NHL '99 feature of kicking out centers from the faceoff spot when a player cheats by tapping the faceoff button too much before the puck is dropped). This game even has those annoying "hot spots".Winning offensive an offensive face-off to your winger in front of the net for a one-timer is almost a sure goal.Too many weak penalties, and that ref needs to be either more detailed or removed (I've tried to hit him with a breakaway pass more than once--DOH).

This game may be the best to play because it's the least annoying. This years PS1 hockey titles are weak.I hope to get my hands on a PS2 soon to try it's hockey titles in hope for a near perfect hockey game.I've tried nearly every hockey game on the market for the PS1.Here's what I've found out so far: Best Gameplay:Faceoff 2001 Best Graphics:NHL 2000 Best Sound:NHL '98-2001 Best PA Announcer:Powerplay '98 Best play-by-play:Faceoff 2001 Best Color Commentary:NHL '98-2000 Best Options:NHL '99 (see above about the faceoffs), NHL 2001

I feel that all hockey games this year were not done too well mainly because the attention went to the PS2.So, with that said, NHL Faceoff 2001 is this years best PS1 hockey game, but that is NOT saying much at all.I still say that the best hockey games are on the Sega Genesis (EA's NHL '97, '98).

2-0 out of 5 stars they can do better
i thought this game was quite bad compared to what 989 usually produces.i have seen much betted games that this out on the market such as fifa 2001, tony hawk pro skater 2.and quite frankley this game was horribble, if you want a good game get nhl 2001

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a hockey game...
Well, quite frankly, the character design, the puck control, and the arenas look exactly the same as they did in NHL Faceoff '99.There are some new features, but nothing far too important.Everytime the puck hits the post, if you're lucky, you'll hear a "It hit the post!".Otherwise, the character design looks like it was rushed, the goaltenders look as bizarre as they ever have, and the commentary has been all the same.

Otherwise, this game is just really fun.You can create some really neat plays.Slapshots, dekes, tip-ins, one-timers, it's all there.

I hope that this version for the PlayStation2 has more effort added to it.Because quite frankly, it isn't really fair to leave out the PSX like that... ... Read more

Editorial Review

The arcade version of Gauntlet Legends is a cultfavorite--a four-way hack-slash-and-burn-everything-in-sight bingethrough a fantasy world full of monsters. It's almost like Lord ofthe Rings without the bothersome plot.

A lot of people were probably awfully excited when Midway decided tobring Gauntlet to the PlayStation, and for the most part theirgame is intact. The world of Gauntlet is colorful, littered withtreasure chests that can be unlocked with keys gained from slayingbeasts. The four main characters are back--Valkyrie, warrior, wizard, and archer--with the promise of hidden characters as well.

Unfortunately, the PlayStation version of this game lacks a four-playermode, which will certainly disappoint fans of the coin-op, but two-playermode can be fun. The real weakness of Gauntlet Legends isits one-player mode, which becomes old rather quickly, so players shouldhave someone ready to join in. --Robb Guido

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This game is a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Old time meets new tech n64 style rocks
I recently found out that Gauntlet was out for the n64. I played it when it first hit the scene and had some great memories playing it 4 person mode at the arcade. We fed a lot of quarters into that machine back then. I got the game for my kids this summer and it rocks. The family has enjoyed it and the effects are fantastic and the secret characters are an excellent bonus. Its still the same game of hack and slash, just as before only with better tech and graphics. If you only play one game this summer get out more. Just kidding. Overall and excellent game. try it out you just might like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad arcade port, but fun anway.
Gauntlet Legends on the PSX has gotten some poor reviews, but I think it was actually quite a good game. When will people understand that arcade games converted to consoles will ALWAYS lose something in the translation? It never fails. This has been true with just about every title that has ever been brought home from the arcade, from the old Street Fighter 2 all the way up to the Tekken series, so it should be no surprise here.

Also, I think that taking away the decreasing life was a GOOD thing, and that alone made the rating for the PSX version worth at least 3 stars. That was nothing but a cheap ploy to make you spend way more quarters than any reasonably skilled player should have to.There are far better and more realistic ways to create a challenge than to have characters lose life for no earthly reason. That's just lame, and it's something I've always hated about the Gauntlet series. With that feature finally removed, the game is now actually an adventure, not the "rat in a maze" type of thing it used to be.

The music on this game is also very good, particularly the main theme that plays during the menu screens and the music on Warrior's Mountain. The boss music is cool too, even with the modernized tracks slipped in there. Some music, though, was just annoying, such as the first of the Town stages with the Zombies.

There were a few disappointments, though.I don't think there was enough challenge, especially in the boss battles.I was also disappointed that the Spider Queen boss was missing completely. The only thing that made the stages more challenging is that they became increasingly more maze-like (not good in my opinion--makes things extremely repetitive and unnecessarily tedious) and that the enemies simply moved a little faster and took more hits to kill.

Also, the graphics were rather poor when compared to the arcade. It's impossible for any console to completely match an arcade version, especially not in the graphics or animation department, but I think the PSX could have done much better than this. The FMVs were fine, but outside of that, all of the heroes are very blocky and pixelated, especially on the character selection screen.Once you get into the game though, the graphics become less of annoyance because you're not really paying them too much attention.

The absence of the 4-player mode was a weakness as well, but two is also fun.I don't think the PSX version had enough challenge even for one player though, let alone four.

Overall, those expecting a perfect arcade-to-console port should look elsewhere, but this game was still fun, and good enough to stand on its own merits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet!!!
I think this game is like, so sweet and you need to buy it! This is a fun game and it's really addicting. If you don't buy this, then you is crazy!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Patience would have paid off
Very, very disappointing. The main problem with this game is the fact that while the arcade version was a challenging, sweaty-palm action game, this has virtually no challenge at all.In fact, I beat the game in two weeks with all four characters at level 99 as the secret characters. This was put out six months after the game broke into arcades, and apparently more time should have been given it.Midway should have learned something from the previous editions of gauntlet on the nintendo, which actually kept some of the thrill of the arcade versions.Recommended only to diehard fans or inexperienced players. ... Hello everybody its me fruggert back again to tell you about a tizite game called power rangers time force!!! I thought the graphics were awsome better than ps2!I knew that tihis game would get the downs award ,i invented the downs award. It is a game awards show that chooses the best games. The games are chosen by a panel of experts like my teddy bear and Mr.Bunny.It is on tv every October the 45th so watch!!I am 23 and i thought that the last level was a bit intense so i dont reccommend this game for anyone under 18.Power rangers at thier best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Boring
Didn't like that you can't fight the bad guys with two rangers like you could in Light speed. My kids thought it wa boring!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Game
I changed my mind, I just had to get used to this game, I do recommend buying it if you are a fan of power rangers and it's worth the [item price].

1-0 out of 5 stars Power Rangers Time Force
I have just 1 word for this game... BORING! I am so disappointed with Sony! We have Power Rangers Light Speed which is so awesome and much better and action packed than this boring time force game. Wake up sony! We want a better power rangers game next time and we miss light speed. BRING BACK THE LIGHT SPEED GANG. Send the time force gang back in time! Almost forgot to add, you can't play 2 players with this boring game, you can only play 2 megazords fighting each other and not the bad guys, totally stupid!

1-0 out of 5 stars very very bad game
bought this for my 5 yr old (huge PR fan)& it is awful. THQ must have put absolutely no effort in getting this game out. the gameplay is inane. my son is constantly baffled by why you must "jump" off areas because the game will not let the character simply walk off an object with no apparent obstacle. in other scenes, you also must "jump" to a farther smaller looking box in order to "jump" back to a higher bigger looking box, making absolutely no sense to even a child!! Therefore, i constantly have to play this inane game for him!!! I was sooooo disappointed because my son and his friends really enjoyed the previous Lightspeed Rescue game for PSX, but unlike that game, this one has no cooperative multiplay, which I prefer. The 2 player game is a competitive multiplay...(and was also awful)
The graphics are terrible, just absolutely terrible. And the FMV hurt my eyes, it was so blurry i was afraid it would ruin my kids' eyes if they saw it too much....
The game was just so bad, i was angry that THQ put out such a bad, bad, awful product just to make a quick power-ranger buck. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More I want More
How is it that a game of this pure enertainment quality has not been improved on by the folks at Sony is beyond me. It is the perfect game that appeals to both young and old, the experianced gamer and the novice, the individual and the group. How can you not enjoy yourself as you wander around reaking havoc on your friends pigs. Give us more Sony, forget Grand Trisimo 4,5,6 don't care about So-com. Hook me up with Hogs of War 2, and let the squealing begin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute and funny

Really Really cool, you can lob grenades, handle heavy tanks and hide out in a bunker to slaughter your enemies!

5-0 out of 5 stars We have met the enemy and they have our Swill
This definetly sounds like and an absurd concept now doesn't it, we take a WW2 scenario, and throw in 6 pig nations. These nations represent Japan, Britain, USA, Germany, Russia, and Italy. Each nation has is basically the same but are greatly steroptyped. Thus the humor comes in.

The gameplay is wonderful in itself, mostly because like any good stradegy game it progressivly gets more and more difficult. In the end you fight the hidden Pink team which holds the swill.Int hat fight you must also face off against all the five other nations eliete Hero.that is no easy task.this game also features a pretty fun multiplayer option as well.

In the end this is worth looking into.

Those die-cast metal cars that supplied endless hours of vroomvroom as a child are back in their very own PlayStation game. Thisfast action game captures the feeling of playing with Hot Wheels carsand the most deluxe track set ever imagined. While retaining someelements of a video game racer, Hot Wheels manages to shun thecurrent trend toward real-world physics and instead focuses on wildairborne stunts and wondrously loopy track design.

Like most racing games, the idea is to finish first. However, to winyou must pull off some acrobatic maneuvers such as barrel rolls andsomersaults to gain turbo boost rewards and blast past your opponents.Keeping a third-person viewpoint and simplistic controls, Hot WheelsTurbo Racing provides just the right touch to re-create theexperience of zooming your own Hot Wheels cars around the living room. The addition of moody, thematic track backgrounds and scorching soundand visual effects transforms every toy-playing kid's fantasy worldinto a digital reality. --Jeff Young

2-0 out of 5 stars good for a headache
I bought this game after trying it in the stores first.I liked it in the stores, but when I bought it, I was completely disappointed.I beat the game quickly, in one night, and it gave me a head ache.It is also a little frustrating because some stuff just happens. If you are buying it to play with the whole family, then I guess I could recomend it, but for anyone who plays games a lot, I suggest looking around for a better game.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Game!
This game is great! The graphics aren't the greatest but they still are good because you can see where you are going. You can unlock mystery cars when you either go in secrets, or win one of the 3 challenging cups. The cups get harder and harder as you go. After winning all 3 cups, I still haven't got all the mystery cars. I am missing 1. Not to brag.It is a
challenging game to get some of the mystery cars. If you get all of them, please let me know. Just Kidding! If you want to, you can. I don't mind. Speaking of the cars, they are great. Some have different strenghs. Like some can be fast and [are bad at] stunts or some can be good at both. When you unlock a mystery car, on a specific track. That means that this car is the car that is best at that track. REMINDER! Don't give up on finding the mystery cars. If you are racing and see one, after you finsh the race, you can practice that track and keep trying to get it. It might take a while but it is worth it. In conclusion, this game is great! Did I mention it is great? Oh yeah, it is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great game
This game is great for the whole family. It's easy enough for my 5 yr old, but challenging enough for Mom and Dad.We love racing against each other.A must have for Hot Wheel fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars The more you play the more you get
My 5 yr old son and I have had so much fun with this game over the past year.In the beginning it seems like just a racing game but as you start finding shortcuts and hidden cars, playing the cup races, and unlocking new tracks it gets better and better! We haven't won the twinmill cup yet though.:-(

This is a really great game for the money!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great 1 Player Mode, Bad 2 Player Mode
This game has Great Graphics, nice gameplay.ok car selection and good track selection.this game should of never been made in to a two player mode selection, it just isn't fun and should be avoided.when you just Ride alone, then its a very good game. All in allthis game is a let down, you expect so much more and they don't even give you 50%! ... Let's face facts here. Pokémon games will neverappear on the PlayStation since Nintendo has those rights locked up forthe next millennium. Still, if you are looking for a game that lets youcatch monsters, train them, and guide them through numerous battles, youcan still find that challenge on the PlayStation in Jade Cocoon. That is, if you can live without those pesky Pokémoncreatures.

Jade Cocoon allows you to seek and collect millions of differentmonster combinations. You catch the beasts in the course of your questto save your hometown. Once caught, the monsters help you build strengthand power through combat as you prepare for the final showdown.

Jade Cocoon is a graphical tour de force from beginning to end.The animation of the characters and monsters are smooth, and the specialeffects for spells and other attacks are stunning. The audio is equallyimpressive.

While the multimedia effects may have held our attention, it was thegameplay that kept us coming back for another round of play. Success incombat relies on the strategic development of monsters, coupled with immediate tactical decisions during each battle. We spent hours testingpossible monster combinations, thanks to a well-implemented previewwindow that lets players preview a monster merger before committing tothe change. There's little guidance in the manual on effectivecombinations, but with a little common sense and a lot of mad-scientistexperimentation, you will ultimately prevail. And although this isn't Pokémon, possibly "catch 'em all." --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Terrific graphics
  • Detailed storyline
  • Millions of potential monsters

  • Cut-scenes are too long

5-0 out of 5 stars JADE COCOON COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By far, JC is the best Playstation game I have ever played. It is my personal favorite game. I am completely in love with the Eternal Corridor. After you have beaten the game, it is accessable to you. It features all new minions that aren't featured in the original game. The storyline is OK, but where this game really shines is the graphics. This game is quite possibly the most detailed playstation game out there graphicwise. The only thing that can match it is probably the Spyro series. As you may know, the greatest feature in gameplay is the ability to merge minions into your own creations. I have one minion with the frame of a bird minion, but the skin of a turtle. It has a lot of the status ailment special attacks. Jade Cocoon is the best playstation game I have ever experienced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thinking Man's Pokemon
This is one of the very few RPG's I've played more than three times. (The other notable mention is Final Fantasy VI.) If you take Pokemon, strip out 90% of the childish nonsense, give it beautiful music, dreamlike landscapes, a plot, character development, and interresting monsters that can take on a multitude of forms, you get Jade Coccoon.

Jade Coccoon has a dreamlike fairy-tale quality that I enjoy. There is character development and an actual plot. The sound track is beautiful; I wish I could find it. The character Po tells some good stories (the first about Alcana is the best), which is a nice diversion. My favorite element of the game is that there is no clear "good guy" and "bad guy", there is conflict on both sides. It also touches on some theological questions in an interresting way. The graphics are also quite good for a PlayStation game, and actually add to the mood and setting rather than just act as flashy eye-candy.

My only problem with this game is that it seems slightly rushed in development. There are elements in the story that seem as if they will be developed, and they just "go away". There is also a slight bug: If you save a game while carrying firefly coccoons and turn off the PlayStation, when you re-start, the special abilities and spells of the creatures in the firefly coccoons will be erased. (However, sometimes this works to your advantage for breeding.) Purified coccoons left with Mahbu are safe. The game has also crashed three times on my PS2 (twice when Levant is summoning the first Minion of a fight), but for 50+ hours of play, that isn't bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't confuse this with pokemon
Yes you do fight with monsters and yes you are a kid. But this game has a rich storyline with many character relationships. Different from pokemon you can fight yourself. Although the graphics are bit out dated they still look awsome and the anime videos are fantastic. The music works well with the game and the voices of the characters are well placed for those who dont want to read. Overall its a great game and well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars jade cocoon
this game is really cool because unlike pokemon you can merge the monsters together and if you do it in different order you will get different monsters. so if you want to get a playstation game get jade cocoon

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it a look in.....
Don't get me wrong, this is a good game, but I would recomend renting it before you buy it. The game gives it its all, and it really tries hard to be original, but it has its drawbacks.
It IS over too quick. The monsters are sometimes very creative, butt after a while, you begin to realise that the "150 base minions" are just the same, with four different elements (water, wind, earth and fire). The story line is original, but you can see the end coming a million miles away.
You will probably complete it in under twenty hours, but it would take you a long time to catch all 150 minions! If you are looking for something new, give it a try: it is an original game. ... Read more
