Editorial Review

Ready to go fishin'? Championship Bass from EA Sports isa great catch--even for non-anglers. This game is loaded with lures andfishing options like water temperature, time of day, time of year, watercolor and even how smart the fish are, but it's the fish fights that aretruly remarkable.

Depending on the size of your catch, battles with bass can last 20minutes or more as you raise and lower the rod, let the reel spool free, and tighten it in to bring home your catch. We recommend using anoptional fishing-rod controller for even more realism.

With four sweeping lakes to tackle, players have plenty of locations tosearch for the big one. Tournament and career modes pit gamers againstcomputer fishermen as they try to catch the heaviest five bass within aset time limit. Bluegills and catfish also fill the lakes, but it's thebig bass that players will be after. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Go anywhere--lakes are full of bass
  • Great fish fights
  • Lures galore
Cons:
  • Landing a bass can be painful, especially if you're using the wronglure
  • No two-player mode

4-0 out of 5 stars Thanks to this game I am now a world class bass fisherman!
(This text refers to the PC version of this game)
Okay... you got me.... I exagerated about being a world class bass fisherman, but isn't that what it's all about anyway? Great pc game. Fun, challenging, addictive, and strangly educational for the bass ignorant (like me). The bigger they are the harder they are to land.Good graphics too.Better than the playstation version for a couple of reasons: 1) There are many more lakes to choose from and they are modeled after actual lakes in the U.S.2) The behavior of the fish seems to be more realistic (possibly due to more memory?).
You'll enjoy it.

Amazon.com Review

Ubi Soft's Rayman character is the Rodney Dangerfield of action-platformcharacters. While smart, funny, and very hip, the poor little guy just can't getany respect from most gamers. It's hard to see why, as the little guy hasstarred in some of the finest platformers (both 2-D and 3-D) gaming has seen insome time.

Basically a direct port of the incredible Nintendo 64, PC, and Dreamcastversions, the PlayStation's RayMan 2: The Great Escape has a lot goingfor it. Great gameplay, amazing visuals, and outstanding sound all combine tomake this platform title kick butt. As the Rayman 2: The Great Escapestory goes, evil mechanical pirates, led by Razorbeard, have enslaved theinhabitants of Rayman's world. You must help Rayman collect four magical masksto wake up a god who will make those pirates walk the plank.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape is a lot of fun, and as you make your waythrough the adventure, you must pick up fragments of energy called "lums." Alongthe way, you will also be required to free cute characters that have been put incages and enslaved by the evil pirates.

There is plenty of eye candy in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, the upbeatmusic is a joy to listen to, and the voice work is one of the best parts of thegame. The control scheme is very intuitive, which is essential for anyplatformer. It's very easy to pick up, but even the best gamer will still lovemastering the environments.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape is one of the best platform games ever madefor the PlayStation. The game is challenging and addictive, and will appeal togamers of all skill levels. --Todd Mowatt

4-0 out of 5 stars the music reminds me of something
If you can remember the music in the last levels and the last boss, go on cd or music and search Bizzy Bone... on the album Heaven'z movie click on the samples "the roof is on fire" and "social studies"and the musics sounds like it.
I prefer the 2D version(when you walk sideways)called Rayman 1.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rayman 2 ~ The Great Escape
A pleasant platform experience from the best of your dreams...

Plot:

Pirate robots have invaded Rayman's rain forest world, and destroyed its core. It is your job to gather the fragments of that core and restore it. All of the villains and most of the locales are pirate-themed.

Graphics:

This game was released on both the N64 & PSX. The N64 version supported the expansion pack, so the graphics looked much smoother and better quality than on PSX. The severely polygonal, retrograde graphics in the PSX version are terribly disappointing.

Otherwise, the graphics are something you might make up in one of your fondest dreams, and there is extreme attention to detail, in lighting and shadowing, like little fire flies flitting about and what-have-you. The water even looks nice and ripply, like you can see every ripple.

Machines are depicted in all of their smoke-spewing, oil-dripping horror, every grate made to look like a set of prison bars...of course, it is all supposed to be from a rain forest inhabitant's perspective.

Sound:

Dreamy and foreboding environments are backed with appropriate music. Most of the music is ambient, battle themes are reasonably upbeat, and they squeeze some chillin' jazz in there, too.

Voiceovers are done in whatever selection you make, English, French, or German. The French voice-overs are the best, and as a matter of fact, they are backed by English subtitles on the N64 version, by default.

Again, the sound quality is MUCH better on the N64 version than on the PSX version.

Gameplay:

Pretty simple, you have your walk, run, jump, hover jump...you attack by shooting or throwing spheres of light, Dragon Ball Z style...and you can lock onto enemy targets. The 3D aspects of the game add little to it, however, as the three dimensions are only useful in dodging attacks left and right, otherwise, the levels are linear and could easily have been done as a 2D side scroller without sacrificing any graphical prettiness.

Also, the level designs between the N64 and PSX versions differ...the N64 version has better level designs. For example, in the N64 version, the residence of the Water Deity is in The Temple of Ice and Water; however, in the PSX version, you find the Water Deity at Whale Bay...Whale !@#$ Bay! (How LAME is that?!)

Overall:

A nice platformer, especially if you can still get your hands on the N64 version. All of this game's qualities are best on the N64.

5-0 out of 5 stars RAYMAN 2- A SURE FIRE A+ FOR UBISOFT
Ok so Rayman is captured and taken to a Robo Pirate prison ground where you escape only to find you are on a quest to get 800 lums and free the slaves which are in Razorbeard's-Rayman's most hated enemy- ship.Along the way you encounter dangerous obstacles and gain cool abilities such as charge up your energy fists or flying with your ears.Though a little dark and frustrating at times, I nonetheless rate this game 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock it with Rayman!
I tried this game at a friends house, and it is great!I sometimes have trouble with ajustining the cameraangle to focus right, though. This game has the samegreat 3-d graphics as any Croc or Spyro games.Rayman2is probably harder than either of these games, however,it is just as exciting and chalanging as either one, ifnot more so. Definatly reccomended!

3-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment!
I thought Rayman 2 would be a great game, but I was wrong.I beat it in 2 days with little trouble!I would save my money and get the Playstation 2 version instead. It has a lot more levels and better graphics! The N64 version of Rayman 2 has more levels and is a lot more fun! ... Read more

Editorial Review

It's obvious that the developers of Need for Speed: PorscheUnleashed put a lot of research into their creation. There's enoughinformation about the legendary series of Porsche automobiles to satisfyany car aficionado, and this game contains tons of models--from late1940s cars to recent 2000 models--from this marquee brand.

Despite concerns that the presence of a single car brand would result ina lack of variety among racing options, Need for Speed: PorscheUnleashed does offer an impressive amount of diversity. Not allPorches are created alike, and the old 356 handles much differently thana newer 911.Thus, there is much potential in this all-Porscheoffering.

Unfortunately, while this game has received strong critical acclaim inits PC incarnation, the PlayStation conversion contains some problems. For example, the track graphics are a bit muddy, and the cars appearfuzzier in this game. Worse still, the physics model for driving is wayoff. Surprisingly, older titles in the Need for Speed series lookand play better than this. Unless you are a Porsche nut, steer clear ofthis one. --T. Byrl Baker

  • Great collection of Porche facts and memorabilia
  • Models tons of Porches, from 1948 models to modern supercars

  • Bland graphics, especially on the tracks
  • Edges of the tracks are ill defined

This game is THE BEST game thats came out in at least 4 years. The cars are great and you might need some imagineation (witch I dought I spelt right).

pros

great car graficks

weak spots
not the greatest chase mode

3-0 out of 5 stars "I should have known"
I should have known, when looking on the internet, getting information on porsche unleashed, and finding nothing really spectacular on this title, that it was going to be a let down!first of all the game plays, pretty good, and the amount of cars are not that bad either it was just the fact that the visuals dont stack up against any of the other titles(like NFS High Stakes)I found this purchase to be fun for a little while, but in the end "Porsche Unleashed"was just another game in my stack, that I show really no interest in!

4-0 out of 5 stars Let the Road Come to You!
I enjoy this Playstation game a lot. The skill level is fairly difficult unless you have the wheel to handle the turns. I recommend this for the Porsche nut that wants to drive a Porsche even though they can't afford it.

This video game has excellent graphics and also a variety of differences fron the first. Many new characters, several hidden characters and much much more!A must play for the-ultimate fighter!

5-0 out of 5 stars good clean battling fun
My favorite fighting game. I like the way you can pound your opponents to a pulp, or how there are two plateaus of fighting human or beast. It has great graphics and has a great story mode. It's a fighting game must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Fun Game
This was a really fun game because it hasa less powerful human mode and a more powerful, beast mode, which also puts more power in to your attacks, and you have more attacks overall. I also liked Bloody Roar 2 because ofthe amount of attacks each player has.And it has different modes, likevs, where you can fight a friend, and things like story mode, survival, andarcade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
This is a fun game because there are two styles of play within the actual game. When you are fightingthere are two levels that your fighter can fight at, first there is human mode which is like any other ordinaryfighting game. However, there is also "Beast Mode" which allowsthe player to fight at a more intense level.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keep Ambitious!
Power Shovel is one of those titles that sticks its head out of the ocean of video games for two seconds, then dives back down, never to be seen again. It's not one you see every day; how often do you find a game where you do nothing but control construction vehicles, complete with Japanese voice clips? It really does get annoying to hear the "foreman" yell over and over in Japanese, but you do have a CD player, right? Use it. The modes are quite varied for an arcade game, but they were probably added in for this version. Tear down a house, pour curry on rice ("Great Benefits!" says the instruction manual), and dump four tons of sand onto a pickup truck for no apparent reason. Admittedly, the menus are hard to navigate, not because they have labels like "Drive a rig. Take it easy" or something like that, but because they're poorly set up. It's hard to tell what mode is where and how to set up versus mode. But in the end, if all you want is to drive a Caterpillar in the comfort of your own bunker, and don't mind about a gallon of poor grammar and Japanese voice-overs mixed in, this is your game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Matt's Review
This is my review by Matthew Gillotti. Olathe,Ks. This game is very fun. However the only thing is, is that all the launguage is spoken in japanese. The graphics are very very good. Also it is fun, they have where you can drive all of these 3 machines. You can dig, load, and crush. I hope they really reall consider making another one. This is great for all ages even from children to grown ups. If you would like to speak w/ me in person about this game then write to Jaman89@juno.com

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty fun game
its fun but there isnt enough levels so it gets repeditive after awhile, but ove all its a fun game.

4-0 out of 5 stars power shovel
My kids have fun with it. My son is almost 4 so the only part that he's got a handle on is making the curry. He loves to play it though. The only thing I think could be better is the fact that the little host guy only speaks Japanese. I have not been able to figure out how to change it or if you can even change it to English.
Maybe I got a different version I don't know. I got it in the Military exchange so I would expect that it was the only version.

5-0 out of 5 stars fun game
This is a challenging game in which you use the power shovel to accomplish a variety of things.First, there is an arcade mode where you have a limited amount of time to load a truck with sand. Then there is a license mode where you do a variety of things with the power shovel like precision driving, loading a truck with sand, and digging a deep hole.

There is also a "part-timer" mode where you do some wacky things with the power shovel like scooping soup, moving turtles from one swimming pool to another, and demolishing a car.

Each of the 3 game types has a limited number of continues, and allows you to progress in the game without just letting you play through until you finish.I think the mix of that is about right.

I have probably spent more time with this game than I have with any other this year.I originally bought this game for my 4 and 6 year old kids because they really like construction type toys and games.Controlling the shovel is way to difficult for children that age.Every single button on the controller is used for something. But I have had a blast with it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Ok.
Neat game. The punching and movements are slow, but overall is a fun game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price
It may not be the best computer game ever written. There are some with more realism and better graphics, but what the heck it isn't all that expensive. My son and I are having a good time beating each other up.

There is one very cute thing in the program. EA put in a boxing stadium in Redwood Shores California where they are based. The funny thing is that there is no bxing arena in Redwood Shore!! It is just where EA is based. I thought that was a nice touch.

Go ahead and get it, just don't expect it to be an earth shattering experience.

this game is mad hot its the best boxing game out right now everone with a ps1 or ps2 should cop this. Well anyways im out one.

2-0 out of 5 stars what?????????
I cant believe it ko kings 2k was so much better. I think the thing that did it for me was the lack of realism, I mean whe they punch the arms look like their about to fly out of their sockets. Also they dont even look like their boxing the boxers have no facial expression at all.
One thing that is cool is the Career mode thats the only reason this game even got two stars the thing is when u play the career mode its just a little to easy to beat, even the last fight i beat my first try. All i have to say is the game was very dissapointing and didnt show the potential of EA sports, sorry guys I just cant give this anymore than 2 stars.Adios! ... Read more

While it really isn't surprising that the Romance of theThree Kingdoms series has survived long enough to produce sixtitles, it is absolutely amazing that this line of games is availableon the Playstation. Anyone who thinks consoles are for kids hasn'tencountered the complex gameplay, convoluted menu-driven interface, orhistorical flair of Romance of the Three Kingdoms VI: Awakening ofthe Dragon.

Your job is a big one: unite China under your rule. To accomplish thistask, you must sway your enemies through use of diplomacy, subterfuge, and force, all the while keeping your homelands protected and yourpeople fed. No one man could do all this, so you must delegateauthority to a variety of historical officers with varying degrees ofability. Some are suited for leading troops in battle, and some arebetter at spying. It's up to you to pick the best man for the job.

The game's biggest problem is its interface, which consists of dozensof nested menus, packed with commands that are not very well describedin the thin manual. This is not a title you load up for a quick gamingfix, but one that--if it's your cup of tea--you start playing on Fridaynight and continue through Monday (after calling in sick).Unfortunately, few gamers will have the patience or resolve to overcomethe more frustrating aspects of RotTK VI. --T. 4-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable gameplay
Being a huge fan of the real time strategy games, I found this game to be especially unique. If you want a good grasp of Chinese history without taking the time to read the long novel, this is the game for you.Not only can you impress your peers with knowledge, but also have hours upon hours of stimulating gameplay. With the capacity to create characters from scratch, this game has endless bounds.Having all games associated with the Three Kingdoms, even the PS2 version, I found this one to be the most enjoyable. It's so packed with information it will keep you awake at nights thinking if one of your providences is governed by the right man.I love this game, but if you do not have patience-forget it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Romance of the Three Kingdoms VI
It is the best historical Strategy games i have every played. For anyone who likes this game and likes RPGs you should try:
Destiney of an emperor for the NES.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than IV!
Good game and holds many aspects that makes it, in my opinion, better than IV.I like the new styled duels much better.I also like the event sequences.

The only draw back is that battles can last only 1 month and attacking cities is kind of a bore due to lack of strategies the gamer can employ.

All in all, a must own, especially if new to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga.

4-0 out of 5 stars Addictive tactics game
With it's complex system of commands and basic visuals this is a game which many people may be deterred from giving it a chance.Once played however your opinion of it is likely to change.Played as it is to the backdrop of chinese history your goal is to unite all of China. The system is surprisingly well thought out with a lot of depth and variety. It is also fun to create your own heroes and see how they fare against those of history.Once I began playing this I couldn't stop.It really is addictive fun but it is not a game for people with short attention spans who just crave flashy graphics and action. It is very tactical both in terms of politics and battles.Give it a try but remember to guard your supplies in battle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Searching for flavor
I love Koei games.Liberty or Death, Nobunaga's Ambition, PTO, Uncharted Waters, Genghis Khan, you name it, if it has their name, it's gotta be good. But this installment of Rot3K lacks that really compelling flavor that makes these games so addictive.

The war portion, which is the lion's share of this game, is fine.In fact, it's better than ever. But that also betrays the game's biggest fault: besides the war, there's not a lot to do.You can make general improvements to 3 categories of your city (farming, commerce, safety) but that's about the extent of interaction with your city. The rest of your options are mostly recruiting generals (hint: get as many as you can early on, as they are difficult to obtain later) amassing troops (no training though) and giving ranks to your generals. There are some limited diplomacy measures that hardly ever work, and get very tiresome (like much of this game,) and that doesn't help.

So you are left to merely amass more troops than your neighbor, and enough generals to lead them.Other than that, it gets pretty... well... boring. The cut scenes are nice, the history is very rich and deep, and some minor troop enhancements make the battles a little more weighty. But we've arrived again at the problem of battle being the only redeeming quality of the game.

Yes, you can have very short conversations with your generals (that are mostly pointless), you can install traps around your castles (at least it gives you something to do), and receive visitors that bear gifts and gold. But there's still something missing.Just like Kessen on PS2, this game lacks a real focus on the city-building portion, which leaves you with a great war simulator, but the vast stretches in between might very well leave you snoozing.(Kessen solved this problem by simply eliminating that pesky "city management" phase, and relying more heavily on an automatically advancing storyline.)

I simply cannot give any Koei game less than 4 stars, and regardless of any negative reviews, I still would have bought this. But I can't say I was entirely satisfied, especially when one's expectations have grown over the years, only to be met with more "same old, same old." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST GAME IN YEARS!!!!
i have over 22 games at my house for my playstation1. the best game i have ever played was the grinch. there are only 4 levels to be honest and it took me less than a week to get there. but heres the catch:
by the time i got to level 4 i was only 30% of the way done. there are sooooooo many tasks on each level and you need to get to other levels first and then go back. many parts of the game are confusing but with some walk thru cheats (aol key word: the grinch playstation game cheats) you will get the hang of it within a short amount of time. my mom plays it, i play it (im 13) and my 10 year old sister plays it too. we play together to figure things out.
on the package it says 1 or 2 players... it lied:)
i give the game 10 stars so does the rest of my family:)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Grinch is very fun.
This game is so fun it is so green, so cool, and so Christmas! There are 4 levels, each with 6 missions. The first world has 500 presents, second and third 750, and final 1,000. I used to play it all the time with my dad on Sega Dreamcast. I love to play it, and that`s why I am getting this for Christmas!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Grinch That Ruined Christmas
With Christmas upon us,and gift-giving near,Here's a sure way to ruin holiday cheer:Buy The Grinch, slip it under the tree,Wrap it up nice, then snicker with glee. For nothing will dampen a child's joy Like receiving an utterly worthless toy.Konami's new game may have good intentions,But nothing disguises its poor animations. With graphics unpolished and gliches aplenty,Pop-up and seaming and mistakes elementary,Levels so barren, backgrounds so bland,Horribly ugly-it's just out of hand!Yet The Grinch is more than a loathsome eyesore,For the gameplay is an annoyingly awful chore. The sluggish control is no Yuletide treat,The simplest task is a thumb-numbing feat.Moments so cheap it isn't fair,Collision-detection that's beyond repair. The voice-acting's soild, the music is charming,But still the game is simply alarming.Avoid The Grinch-it's without hope, Or foist it on a child if you're a true misanthrope.

4-0 out of 5 stars Christmas Lover
I love this game 'cause im just one of those people who sing jingle bells in the middle of the summer cause i love the christmas spirit. when i saw this i thought, hmmmm, ITS MINE but there are a few downs like its really hard to do something but while you are doing it it is fun! Its not that good when it comes to following the story line but other than that you can be the grinch, max, and.... well the grinch and max. I give it 5 stars because its just a christmas..ie kind of game!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good game
This game does not deserve a great rating. The gameplay isn't very good. I mean, the music stinks and the game itself is just not what someone would hope for. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is such a cool game!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a teen and I love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is challenging and the mini games are fun. I hate to admit it but i loved picking out the twins outfits at the start of the game.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a high school fun game... (updated vers.)
This is the updated version of my previous review to this product (as a 12-year-old gamer; well, now I'm a 13-year-old gamer and an adult in Amazon's eyes)

STORY: NOW IN HIGH SCHOOL, MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY HAVE A LOT MORE TO DO. AND SOMEONE WANTS TO ASK THEM TO A DANCE (BEACH BASH)! THEY WOULD SAY YES BUT THIS HORRIBLE JEALOUS GIRL HAS TORN UP THE NOTE SO THEY CAN'T READ IT! IF YOU DO HIGH SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES, COURTNEY WILL GIVE YOU PIECES OF THE NOTE.
Games:
1. Freshman Hall:
a) Cheerleading gainst Courtney. Gets harder and harder until you have to memorise the moves!
b) Physics field trip to fun golf course!
2. Sophomore Hall:
a) Marine Biology- a special beach clea-up project with animals to put in the sea and newspapers and bottles to recycle. Lots of levels.
b) Journalism- extra credit! Take pictures for the yearbook. Very, very fun.
c) History- golf course. Well-designed.
3. Junior and Senior hall:
a) Arcade- the second level is extremely difficult to complete!
b) Journalism- harder than the sophomore version.
c) Dance squad tryouts- this is exactly like the cheerleading level in Freshman hall.

This is at to begin with but the first two halls are completed very quickly. Arcade- I cannot get past this.

Extras: Find out which crushes you can get. Play the games (apart from Journalism- but that's the best!) against the computer or a friend.

Not Mary-Kate and Ashely's best but a very good effort.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a high school fun game starring the brilliant twins!

5-0 out of 5 stars An older MK + Ashley fan
I am an older Mary-kate and Ashley fan and am not afraid to admit that I still like their movies, shows and video games. Though these games may be a little easy to beat I still enjoyed Crush course very much. After i beat it I played it again and again.I never get bored of it and i will continue to enjoy the Olsen twins and their products.

2-0 out of 5 stars ITS OK
This game was fun the first hour I got it,after that it was soooo
BORING!!!!! They play this music that is irritating. The colors are dark. All you do is go around a game board. Whenyou land on
some thing its says warp or some thing like that and there is so many I have a hard time knowing what each thing meant. It is a
good game too play when you are trying to fall asleep. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the "Kasparov" name
I naively bought this based on the "Kasparov" title. There are only a couple of workable boards you can use (the more colorful ones have pieces that are undecipherable).I'm not sure about the strength, but I have to put the game on the highest "champion" level just to keep it from making stupid mistakes. At that point, it's still not overwhelmingly strong in play. And the game takes forever to think each move; if it's not using brute force to work out its moves, it might as well.More informational than a real chess game, it's not strong enough for devoted players and not user-friendly enough for anyone else.Don't buy it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Much
Chessmaster 3000 had a lot more options and variety than this game. There is not much to say about it. You can play several levels of chess. Unless you are a Grand Master, the chess microchip should be able to give you a hard time. As far as variety of options, views, chess sets, etc., this game has very few. I paid [$] for it and I felt it was about comparable to a late 1980s PC Chess game. This seems to have been a game that was put together quickly to make some money, and Kasparov did not care about the product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Could have been great . . .
I'll keep this real short. The pieces are nice, the engine is expert strength or just short (1600-1700).BUT there is no way to play BLACK ?!?This makes it useless as a chess game for those who care about chess, and it's already useless for those who don't.You don't see this inability to play black show up in any review or anything, and this is very important to know!I think most people reviewing this game know nothing about chess.(you can control blacks pieces, but only from the white side of the board.) ... 1-0 out of 5 stars don't bother
luckily, i bought 2 playstation games at the video game store and got this one free, meaning i didn't have to spend money on this p.o.s. what is up with the blocky graphics? i mean did this come out of 1985 or something? i really don't like the shmitty guy. his jokes take forever and the punchlines are stupid. i've played 3 rounds so far and the main themes have been poop, placenta, and farting. give me a break. i hate that you can't pick the category and i that computerized girl voice is so hard to understand. seriously, do not get this game. if curiosity is getting the best of you then try to rent it or loan it from a friend who was unfortunate enough to buy it. i missed cookie in this game but he had the right idea not getting involved with this crap. bottom line: this game sucks!!

4-0 out of 5 stars You Don't Know Jack Mock 2- A new game...or is it?
The game You Don't Know Jack Mock 2 appears to be a new game for the playstation game console. This is not true. This game is combined from the PC games You Don't Know Jack Louder! Faster! Funnier! and You Don't Know Jack 5th Dementia.I own both games and I still like this game.

There are five kinds of questions on this game. The types of questions are multiple choice, Dis or Dat, Wendithap'n, Coikydink, and Jack Attack.Despite what other reviewers say that there isn't the Dis or Dat they are wrong.I know this because I have the game and I just copied the question types out of the instruction booklet.

The multiple choice question is the question that occurs most often.A question pops up and four choices are given to pick from.If buzzed in to early, the player will not be able to see the question and/or see the screen and will most likely get it wrong.

A Dis or Dat is a one player matching question. Two categories are shown and the point is to separate the seven answers that appear into these categories. Some of the time there is a third category that means that the answer would fit into both of the categories.

A Wendithap'n is a question that asks if an event happened before, after, or never happened to another event. This question type was first in You Don't Know Jack Louder! Faster! Funnier! first and is not original despite what other reviewers say.

A Coinkydink is a question type where the player has to connect two clues by one word. Each right answer wins the player $1,000 and each wrong answer loses the player $1,000.At the end of the Coinkydink a bonus round occurs and players buzz in when the proper answer comes up that connects all of the answers.Hard core YDKJ fans will notice that this isn't a new question type either, and is just a renamed version of Roadkill from You Don't Know Jack The Ride.

Jack Attack is the last question of the game and can decide the game.A hint is shown in the middle of the screen and potential matches pop up for the players to buzz in on.Buzzing in isn't limited and can cost a player a ton of their money if they constantly buzz in wrong.

You Don't Know Jack Mock 2 is a good game despite being two games compiled into one.Even if you own You Don't Know Jack 5th Dementia and You Don't Know Jack Louder! Faster! Funnier! for the computer, this game is still fun.If you own the games you can know the answers ahead of time and show off to your friends.(MWAHAHA!)

4-0 out of 5 stars No more cramming around the keyboard!
If you like YDKJ but don't like to cramp three people around a keyboard, then this game is for you.The game is pretty good, definitely not the best YDKJ game, but I'd just like to clear up some facts that the other reviewers got wrong:

The host of this game is Schmitty, not Cookie. The difference is that Cookie was a much better host.Schmitty gets the job done, though.

This game is not slow-paced AT ALL.If anything, it's too fast-paced.In the PC versions, the host introduces the theme of the show before jumping right in.In the Playstation version no screen was made for the host to introduce the theme, so he just does it after saying the category of the first question.What...?

Also, the "When'dit'hapin" question type is completely new to the YDKJ series. You won't be able to find it in any of the other games, PC or Playstation.

Finally, some more comments: during the final "Jack Attack" round, the center word is colored exactly the same as the area around it in the beginning, making it very hard to answer the question. Also, the game is supposed to automatically save the high scores onto your memory card, but it will only save onto memory card slot 1, and won't give you any message if there's no card in the slot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go cookie
COOKIE RICKS ON THIS GAME, he yells at you, and there is fun queasions

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it, but...
This game is great! While it does seem odd that you can't choose a category or dollar value, it doesn't matter, because it's still one of the funniest trivia games out there!

I must mention, however that if you own The Ride, Louder! Faster! Funnier!, and/or 5th dementia, I would reccomend that you do NOT buy this game.Sierra seems to have a bad habit of pulling questions from existing Jack games for the playstation versions. This kind of makes sense, since it brings some of the funniest YDKJ questions to PSX owners who don't have PCs.

Pros
+fast-paced
+funny
+you don't have to crowd around the keyboard to play

Cons
-No new questions ... Read more

Destrega!!!
This is one of the most original and best PS 3-D games around! THIS HAD SOME PRETTY GRAPICS!!! Especially is u put this in ur PS2 and put smooth on ur game the grapics look even better!!! But this game had a really great story, characters and magic. I hope the creators make a 2nd game the PS2, GameCube or X-Box! HAHAHA!

5-0 out of 5 stars great fighter
first, i'd like to say that this game is EXTREMELY FUN when playing against one of your friends.me and my friend play this game all the time.and I love how it's not like most other fighters, where you're either trying to do special moves that require hard to remember button combinations or just pounding on the buttons.in this game there are three types of projectile attacks, one that is strong, spread shot, and a quick one.it's like rock paper scissors, where one beats another, but also loses to another.and depending on how much time you have you can power up the attacks, or shoot them while in mid-air.

in additon to all that, the 3d fighting 'arenas' are huge!i reccomend Destrega to just about everyone =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Above and Beyond!
First off...most games have a limited number of characters to play with.Destrega offers you 12 fully functioning characters. The fighting arenas are the most beautifully constructed that I have ever seen..the attention to detail is great. The best part of the game is the full arsenal ofmoves..both long range and short..that you can challenge your opponentwith. You can kick....or blast away with a fireballfrom 100 yards away. With 6 different modes for play...including anawesome story mode...this is easily one of the top games for any action fanto buy. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good ride
This game is a very smooth ride. I loved it. I couldn't put it down once it came in the mail. Still, I was somewhat disappointed with how easy it was to win the championship. All it seems to take is a course with enough nintey degree turns. You can always make those turns faster than the rest of the cars for some reason, no matter who you play with. So, the game is fun and runs smoothly, but pretty much anyone with a steady hand will defeat the first try.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am 12 yrs old and I enjoy this game.Me and my dad play with it at night. He likes it because you can set it up to do black flags and yellow flags and turn the damage on.If you just like racing you can turn all that stuff off.My only complaint is that you can't turn on black and yellow flags on 2 player.BUY THIS GAME!

4-0 out of 5 stars I mean its fun, but you need more cars for each race
Both the first game and this one are pretty fun, but you need more than 16 cars to be a real race. Also, when are they going to make a NASCAR game that has some real crashes.I know its just a game but I think that some more smoke and visual damage to cars would be cool.I mean you can bump cars all the time in this game and nothing ever happens. It was still fun, but it could be better

5-0 out of 5 stars simply entertaining
Me and my dad have always enjoyed playing racing games. Well this game isn't any typical racing game, it has over 15 authentic tracks straight from the NASCAR circuit. It also has anough cars to satisfy any enthuisist. Also hidden racers and cars along with hidden tracks to be unlocked adds some variety to the gameplay. I enjoyed it and would reccommend it to anyone, also its only 20 bucks now!

4-0 out of 5 stars Truly good racing

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very good

Editorial Review

Tony Hawk, famous for his 720 move (a mid-air 360-degree somersault done twice), is widely credited as being one of the best skateboarders in the world. Hawk lends his technical advice and character likeness to this nine-level title, which is among the better skating titles on the PlayStation. While it is cool to play as Hawk, would-be skate pros can also choose to play as one of eight other skaters. Each character has a different riding style and at least three unique tricks to master.

Solo players will skate to win the world championship, with over 100 moves available to score points, including slides, grinds, and landing tricks. A split screen allows players to compete against each other. During this head-to-head mode, you can score style points, race between obstacles, or play tag. If you opt for graffiti mode, both players compete against each other by "tagging" objects while performing their tricks. A replay mode is available for players to view highlights at the end of a game.

The level design is enormous, with 10 interactive courses, including skate and pool parks, half pipes, and a downtown area. Each skating environment is filled with secret places, shortcuts, and obstacles. Once you get the moves down, you can perform a trick off of just about any object that you see. Tony Hawk is not the only star in this game--the music stands strong on its own. Cool cuts come from Primus and the Dead Kennedys--which can be inspiring during the frantic onscreen action. While game control is relatively solid, there are some minor problems in tight areas.

This title is so large it is overwhelming, given the enormity of levels and available moves. However, persistent skate pros will master this game with a little practice. (Fortunately, there is a practice mode to scrape your knees on.) --Kasty Thomas

Pros:

  • Variety of moves and tricks
  • Excellent course design and graphics
  • Solid controls
Cons:
  • Control problems in tight areas

4-0 out of 5 stars The game that spawned numerous sequels and rip offs
Extreme sports video games, up until the year 2000, were usually extremely lacking. The games often suffered from poor play control and graphics, and seemed rushed. But at long last, in the year 2000, Activision set out to correct all that had been done wrong previously with such titles. They went the extra mile to try to make the perfect skateboarding game. Did they succeed? Read on for my review of Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

PROS:
-UNLIKE A NUMBER OF EXTREME SPORTS TITLES, THIS ONE USES ACTUAL PEOPLE! As the title of the game may have implied, Tony Hawk is a playable character. In addition to Hawk, there are a number of other pro boarders selectable.
-THE GAME USES ACTUAL MUSIC BY ACTUAL BANDS! Most extreme sports titles feature lame, generic music that sounds like it would be better off elsewhere. In this game, that is NOT true. Bands like Goldfinger and Primus contributed music to this game, and their contributuions are one of the things that make this game so great. The other bands that contributed aren't as well known, but their songs are no less excellent.
-NO TWO CHARACTERS ARE EXACTLY ALIKE. Although every character plays in a similar fashion, each one has his or her own special moves. Likewise, what one character may lack in one area he may make up for in another, while with another character it may be vice versa.
-THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INTERESTING LOCATIONS. This game's settings are another great strength that it has. You'll go everywhere from an abandoned warehouse to an abandoned mall, and even a dam! There is no shortage of cool places to go in this games.

CONS:
-CONTROLS TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO. If you've never played any game by Activision that uses this same game engine, expect to take some time adjusting to the controls. Once you get the hang of them, though, you'll end up liking them.
-LATER ENTRIES IN THE SERIES WERE CONSIDERABLY BETTER. Although this was a good game, the later games were better, featuring more characters (and some even cooler secret ones), more secrets, and more music. Oh well, this game is still good.
-THE GAME GETS TOO HARD, TOO FAST. This game starts easy, but gets hard after a few short play sessions. Expect to blister your thumbs a lot, and often times accomplish nothing for it.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a very good game. Sure, it's overrated, but that's because it's a good game! If you want the best skateboarding games out there, the games in the Tony Hawk series are exactly what you're looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars YEAH!
punk skatin in your living room! tons of great trick including the 900! unexplaynably great worlds! hell i give it a gabagilion starz!

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome!
Tony Hawk- legendary skateboard hero. He rocks. His games rocks. That's all there is to it. Tony Hawk+anything=awesome! In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater you can play as legendary Tony Hawk or various other awesome pro skaters. You can pull tons of tricks and spend hours trying to one-up your best trick or combo. The multiplayer is pretty fun also. There are multiple multiplayer scenarios that make multiplayer very fun. This game is the best. Like I said before Tony Hawk rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game Rules!
This is an awesome game!! It totally rocks! This is the ORIGINAL Tony Hawk game! People say that the rest are better because the graphics are better, but the gameplay is what counts most! It doesn't have as many tricks as the other ones, but, who gives a care?!!!!!! This ones SKATING is better than some newer ones because it is harder to bail. And also, the Career mode is better than some of them because there aren't as many goals, the goals aren't too hard, or too easy (except for the first level which is SUPER easy, cleared it in two two minute runs). If you are looking for a good skating game, a fun sports game, or just an awesome game, buy the Tony Hawk games!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The first time around
Skateboarding is not a crime - but trying to top Tony Hawks Pro Skater in the Fun Factor rating will be. This fast paced thrill-a-minute skateboarding game will be the standard on the PlayStation for a while. It's one of the best games this year, and it's full slate of tricks, bails, and twists that will keep you satisfied for a while. Don't think that just because it's a skater game that you have to be a skater to play it. Tony Hawk lets the novice and the skate junkie alike enjoy the action. There's no complicated story line or rendered cut scenes in-between skating - you simply grind, gleam, and glide through ten different skate areas including classics like Burnside in Portland or the streets of San Francisco. You'll tear it up in abandoned warehouses, schools, and even in a river gorge in Phoenix. Pick from one of ten skaters, all with different moves and special tricks as you try to grab high scores, find hidden video tapes, and collect other items to help you reach your objectives. The game is a slick piece of work for the PlayStation. Although you will find the occasional seam split or blank polygonal dead-end, you'll be amazed by the detail in the game, including the full-on face bashing and asphalt blood-letting that hardcore skaters are used to. But what really seals this skate's fate is the game's incredible speed, which blazes past games like Trickstyle for the Dreamcast. The compliment of special moves is also spectacular, with a level of variation that makes almost any gravity-defying trick possible. A good skater would readily admit that the music attached to skate culture is a big part of the experience. Activision never slouched by giving lame, generic studio music to Tony Hawk fans - expect the thrash stylings of the Dead Kennedys, Primus, Goldfinger, and Suicidal Tendencies to round the soundtrack out. Don't like skate music? Turn it off and skate to Frank Sinatra to see what a difference a song makes. Although the game is styled so novices can easily figure out the controls, finger pimps will rule the roost in Tony Hawk. Some of the better combinations (and the higher scores) are achieved by the most intense finger aerobics since Track and Field. Mashing won't help either - you have to know the combos to score. All in all, Tony Hawk is an impressive tour-de-force in the skating arena. Competition like MTV Sports: Snowboarding, Trickstyle, and Thrasher: Skate and Destroy already have the bar set pretty high with this game. Who will bring the Hawk down? It's going to take a fairly high-flying predator to do the job. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Combining the road rage-inspired dark fantasies of Mad Max with a twist of campy black humor, Twisted Metal III is a worthy addition to the emerging car combat genre. Though the game is sure to be a hit with newcomers of the series, fans of the previous Twisted Metal games will find that TM III doesn't quite fire on all cylinders.

The story runs somewhere between Mortal Kombat and your wildest dreams of demolition derbies. But the paper-thin plot doesn't matter: you have a rad car and aren't afraid to use it. Whether you choose to control the monster truck driven by the little old lady, Mr. Grimm's motorcycle o' death, or what is quite possibly the coolest ice-cream truck ever, you'll speed and skid around the asphalt-covered levels, grabbing power-ups and blowing up your opponents with a wide array of vehicle-mounted weaponry.

In a game like this, several things are key: physics, control, and level design. Twisted Metal III departs from the previous games in the franchise. The levels are smaller and the physics and controls conspire to make the vehicles handle oddly. The bottom line: car-smashing fun that doesn't quite live up to the glories of the prequels. --John Cocking

Pros:

2-0 out of 5 stars terrible!
Why did 989 studios take over this series? Since then, the twisted metal series fell apart. Twisted metal three is the worst ever! The engine of how the games run is difficult. the game has no conrol. i had a hard time even causing little damage to someone.

graphics:The graphics are jumpy, the levels are small, and half of the time in hollywood i don't know where i am! the characters are ugly, the cars are also ugly!So little detail in every world! Hollywood looks like some japenese disaster, the blimp is nothing like a storage room place. Visualy, it's an eyesore!

Sound:The heavy metal tracks go well with the game, but the noises are annoying.the voice overs are nice in the profile part. So sound is the only area.

gameplay:It's hard to aim, drive, and have a good time! the sense of speed is gross. The only way to go is turbo. If you crash, be prepared to be trapped for good!

Replay:This game dosen't last. You won't want to see all the endings. becaue the game isn't boring. This game will likely find itself in your giveway pile in three years

Overall, boring, dum, and the worst combat car game ever made. get twisted metal black!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Twisted Metal game.
One of the coolest games for the psx. I love Sweet Tooth as a person to be.

Pros:
Many weapons
Great cars
Love the Rob Zombie songs

Cons:

The battlegrounds are to small.

Great game if you love BLOWING things up.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Twisted Metals
Twisted Metal 3 is definately one of the better Twisted Metals out there. I liked how Twisted Metal 3 kept the "World Tour" Storyline like Twisted Metal 2. The World is the contests battleground yet again in TM3 with the contest literately destroying famous cities around the world like Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Egypt, and much more!

If you want a great Twisted Metal game, get Twisted Metal 3!

1-0 out of 5 stars Twisted Metal 3
Ah, the game the temporarily destroyed the Twisted Metal franchise... Don't buy this game. Any of the other Twisted Metals are far, far, far, far, far better! Go with one of them.

3-0 out of 5 stars 989? Doesn'tcompare to Vigilante 8
Single trac is gone 989 now run the TM .It's fun but mediocre . Cars flip over . YOu drive find weapons shoot and that's it. What about depth? IN v8 you are limited to weapons and can shoot specialattacks by pressing combinations .

Pros:
Fun
Spectre and thumper in this game
TM

Cons: Car flips
TM:SB abd TM2 are better

Amazon.com Review

Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX uses a refined version of the gameengine found in the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The modes, menu, and trick system are identical. The main difference is thatinstead of skating around, performing tricks, and collectingvideotapes, you're riding a bike, performing tricks, and collectingmagazine covers. To accommodate the physics of bicycle tricks, thelevel design is different from THPS. Some of the levels aregood, but most are relatively bland and aren't as clever as what we'veseen before. Despite this flaw, it is the best BMX game currently onthe market, but in the context of other extreme sports games it fallsshort. It's too similar to the original THPS and not as good asTHPS2.

Despite the fact that it's mostly derivative, the game has a fewoutstanding features. It contains lots of full-motion video sequences, albeit at the expense of load times. The real gem is the soundtrack, which is a nice mix of punk, electronica, hip-hop, and rock. It'sdefinitely one of the best video game soundtracks ever.

If you're looking for the best BMX game on the PlayStation, this is it.If you're a fan of extreme sports in general, you'd be better servedwith THPS2 or waiting for THPS3. --Raymond M.Padilla

Pros:

  • Outstanding soundtrack
  • Gamers familiar with the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series will feelright at home
  • Plenty of full-motion video
Cons:
  • Long load times
  • Mediocre level design
  • Not enough enhancements from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

this is the coolest. For anyone wanting to do freestyle tricks move to MHPB2!!!!like doing tricks like the sufer or FPEG Stand To Expandable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good
I haven't unlocked every level on this game yet, but from what I've unlocked so far I would say that this game is pretty darn good. I mean, who cares about the graphics? C'mon. I bought this game with some of my birthday money at GameStop. I couldn't wait to play it. As soon as I got home I jammed it in my console and started playing. I was hooked! I didn't like the first level, mostly because I had played it already in the THPS2 demo, but the next level, Construction Yard, was AWESOME! And to those people who say this game is easy, they must be sick in the head. This game constitutes a good challenge. Especially the level I'm on now. Can't wait to get to the next level. I'm gonna push myself...
Anyway, if you want to get this game I'd say go with that voice in your head and spend some cash. You won't be sorry. You can trust me.

4-0 out of 5 stars The most addictive game I have ever played
I love this game, it is totally awsome. My best friend I stayed up untill 5:00am trying to beat the game. I thought the Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX was money well spent. I recomend to everyone that is looking for a fun and challengeing game to play. It is just like the first Tony Hawk game.

MAT HOFFMAN ROCKS !!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Blood splatters unacceptable and unnecessary!!
My 6 1/2 year old son was so excited about getting this game, he talked about it constantly while we waited for it to be delivered. But when he started playing it, he was so disturbed by the blood splatters, he left the game in tears. We have so enjoyed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, we assumed this product was comparable. Since when are blood splatters OK for "Everyone" (the game is rated E)??? Tony Hawk, you should be ashamed to offer this game to young children. My son ended up very disappointed, and my husband and I were outraged.

3-0 out of 5 stars my review (please read)
The game is pretty much the same as tonyhawk proskater except for the fact thats it is bikes. although the game just dosent have that special something to make it a great game like the tony hawk pro skater series. although it is still fun to play every now and then. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST GAME
This is the worst game ever. Who ever buys it is probably tricked because all you do is just walk around punching or kicking. Sure you can use bombs and stuff, but you can't be invisible like in the T.V. show or fly at all. Plus, the graphics are super weak and you can tell the creators just didn't have great ideas.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Game Ever
This is the worst game I've ever played! The graphics are poor and the controls are even worse. After making it to the third level I was sick of playing it. To make matters worse you can't save it anywhere. Don't waste your time or money with this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars i HATE this game!!!!!!!
THis is the WORST game that i have ever played. It has terrible graphics, it is impossible, and is extremly boring!I would highly recomend saving your money for an amazing game like Final Fantasy 9 or Syphon Filter 2.This game is very bad and is a waste of your time and money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Batman Beyond review
I bought this game for two people.Myself and my nephew.Had I realized what kind of game it was I would have waited until it was a used game to buy it off them. While I love batman(I always have since I was a kid), this game like other games didn't do the charactor justice.A word of caution to those parents who are thinking of buying the game. There is no save feature! One of the nice thing about games today is you don't have to think about finishing the game in one day so you can cut your kids off at a certain level, like my nephew only gets certain amount of video game time. However, if you do want to finish the game in one day, it's going to take you a minimum of 2 hours to finish the game in one day.TWO STRAIGHT HOURS!And this was on easy mode. And that is after you spent so much time beforehand getting to know the game. The first level is easy as long as you have batarangs at then the second level can be tough and long.3rd level can be agonizing because you also need a lot of time to get through this level. The "4th level" is a long level. It's also the final level and the sad part was the Joker was easier to defeat than Ghoul was on the 3rd level.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good license, poor game
It seems that the game was poorly designed and put together in a hurry to coincide with the video release. The gameplay is boring and monotonous. The controls are sloppy and difficult. The cut-scenes are minimal at best. The graphics are substandard. Also, the package indicates that you can save the game with the use of a memory card but on inspection, there is no save feature. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the True Ridge Racer Titles
And I say true Ridge Racer because I actually like Rage Racer slightly better than this.R4 is the first RR game to have analog support, but what really makes this game is the excellent track design.Unlike Rage Racer and Gran Turismo, you don't earn money to upgrade your cars, you just unlock cars. That's its only flaw in my book.

Those who are complaining about the quality of the graphics...drive faster.

2-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE WORST GAME OF THE SERIES
THE GRAPHICS AREN'T TOO GOOD, THE CARS LOOK GREAT BUT ARE LOADED WITH MORE HANDLING PROBLEMS THAN EVER BEFORE, AND THE GAMEPLAY SUCKS. LET'S FACE IT, THE ONCE-GREAT RIDGE RACER SERIES IS NOW DEAD. AND THIS IS THE GAME THAT HELPED SEAL ITS FATE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trust me, You will be Surprised
When racing games were dominated by 'real' simulation Gran Turismo, I just couldn't enjoy first two Gran Turismo games except the fact that I do get to drive my car. That chemistry wasn't just there. When I picked up this gem, I was immediately sucked into it. The graphic was BETTER than first two Gran Turismo games and not to mention its story line. It's simple story, but they have managed to present the 'simple' story with special cutscenes with jazzy music, and believe me, this combination really adds alot to this game.

This game does offer variety with two types of racing and four racing team. Not only each team offers various difficulty, but also it offers different storylines. I have especially enjoyed night setting race course, with music which it brings out the essence of each course to its max. May be something's wrong with me for I just couldn't enjoy 'awesome' Gran Turismo games (third installment was very enjoyable)..you might say.. but this game was MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE than Gran Turismo, Don't miss it!

4-0 out of 5 stars If Gran Turismo had been an arcade game first...
If Gran Turismo had been an arcade game first, R4 might just be what it would have been. Ridge Racer Type 4 returns the series to its less-realistic roots after the uneven (but decent,) Rage Racer, but still adds enough new stuff to make it stick out in the post-Gran Turismo world of racing games. Why does it stick out? Because it remembers not to be TOO real. See, if I want a truly "real" driving experience, that's what the cars parked outside are for. R4 remembers to be fun first, real second...but it's a close second. The physics of the game are tight, and the graphics are about as good as PS1 gets. The premise of racing for a team is a good story point (a point that most racing games skip altogether,) and also gives you a weird sense of responsibility when you win or lose a race. The car selection is both a good thing and a bad thing. The variety is outstanding, with dozens and dozens of different customizable designs, including some really neat hidden stuff. Unfortunately, the Gran Turismo effect has to be addressed here, as none of the cars are based on actual models. You can tell what a few of them are based on, but after Test Drive and Gran Turismo spoiled us all with real cars from the real manufacturers, generic stuff knocks a star off of this one. But other than that, it's a true gamer's game, and is a worthy substitute for GT when you're tired of sweating over getting a license just to get anywhere in the game. Plus, it's now a "Greatest Hits" title, and the price is very, very nice if you're not moving up from your PS1 for a while. A keeper.

4-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining speedy racing game, but familiar.
Graphics: 8/10 - Ridge Racer Type 4 is plausible in this area. The car designs are fantastic and the roads are clear and well-crafted.

Sound: 9/10 - Fantastic! Not too much of this comes from the cars themselves, but the groovy soundtrack, great commentator and crashing sounds give this baby a boost!

Value: 7/10 - A fun car racing game that lasts a long time and challenges you to do better. But in this genre, we have seen games done better and you might want to go off and play them instead.

Overall: 8/10 - What can I say? I thought this was a blast. It was fun, energetic and speedy. A good instalment to the Ridge Racer series. The cars were brilliant and the Great Gran Prix is the best part. However, Ridge Racer Type 4 loses points because it is simply too much like Gran Turismo and you might tire of its same-old routine. Still lots of fun and recommended! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I AM VERY MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very mad. When I got this game i was like "Cooooool" but when I played it I was like "Ewwwwwwwww". I burned this game in my room. I want to kill a puff girl. They are fat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fight! Powerpuff Girl Style!
Fight all the Townsville villians to take back Chemical X!Activate special moves - laser eyes, tornadoes & ice breath.Villian or Powerpuff Girl Mode with Two Player Mode.

3-0 out of 5 stars fun...for about a day...
...The game itself is basically a fighting game, although somewhat different from the norm..It's built around picking up items and throwing them at your opponent. There are also the standard kick/punch and a simple "kick kick punch" combo that can be employed, although they're really only useful for making your opponent drop whatever it is they're going to throw at you since the kick/punch attacks do very little damage themselves. You can also catch some of the things your opponent throws at you, although it's usually nearly impossible to do (as is dodging items since they pretty much lock onto you and nail you even if you try to jump out of the way). The gameplay is also spiced up with chemical-x bottles..There are normally 3 around at once..Hit your opponent with something to make them drop one of their bottles..If you get hit, you drop one...If you manage to collect all 3, you're given the chance to use a super power (which are wildly uneven, from Sedusa's barely damaging slime attack to the Powerpuff Girls' eye lasers that can suck away half of their opponent's life bar)...In the end, the gameplay boils down to a simple matter of "hit the other person with something before they can hit you"..

The graphics, presented in an overhead 3D adventure-type view of the battle arena, are fairly good. The intro movie is excellent.Powerpuff Girls fans will especially enjoy seeing the show's intro in 3D animation..Overall, things are nice and colorful and do a good job of creating an atmosphere similar to the show..The sound is also good, although some more soundbytes from the characters or the show would have been nice.

The controls are fairly simple, albeit somewhat sluggish. In fact, my first impression with the game was that it was quite slow. However, as you get into the game a little more, the pace seems to be just about right for the gameplay style...Still, it can be a bit tedious at times...

As for difficulty and longevity..There are several villains and arenas to unlock by playing through the story mode with each Powerpuff Girl. These can also be unlocked with passwords that can be found online.Normally, the ability to unlock secrets would add to the longevity of the game, but there aren't many villains to defeat, and the game can be finished fairly quickly...I beat this game and unlocked all of the secrets the first night I played it...That's not to say it's easy...it's actually fairly difficult even on "easy" mode, probably to the point that it would frustrate some of the younger fans of the show. However, with so few battles to win, it becomes a matter of persistance rather than skill...fighting each villain over and over until you defeat them. After you beat the game, there's not much point to doing it again. Then it comes down to the simulator mode, a one or two player single battle game that becomes very tedious after about a day.In other words, it's very likely to become one of those games that sits on a shelf indefinitely after playing it for a day or two...

Well, the bottom line is that it's fun for a while. It's definitely not an outstanding game.It IS somewhat violent..but those of you complaining about the violence might want to try watching an actual episode of the cartoon..If you're a big fan of the Powerpuff Girls, it's probably worth buying just to dust off every once in a while, watch the intro movie, and play a bit..For anyone else, I'd say it deserves a rental, but you'll find that even the rental period will probably outlast the enjoyment you'll get from the game...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Hoping For
I'm a totally obsessed Powerpuff Girls fan. I read the comics, buy the DVDs, and have the fashion accessories. So I decided to get this game. There aren't many "girly" games out there for a girl such as myself to buy... and this is one I shouldn't have bought.

The characters in this game move extremely slow.It makes it difficult and frustrating to play this game.I may not be an obsessive gamer, but I am 18 and have the necessary motor skills to play a freaking video game!So obviously there is something wrong with the game.I wish I had read everyone's online reviews before getting this game, because I would not have gotten it if I had.I would recommend getting anything from the Spyro series if you're looking to play a cute, fun game. You can actually get somewhere with those! Also, Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy is a cute game for girls.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Stupid and Violent to Bear!!!
My sister and I are big fans of the PPGs. So we thought that the PS1 game looked cool. But, when we brought it home and started playing, we had a huge dissapointment. The beginning is just like the start of the show, but when you start playing the game, it is totaly VIOLENT!! The only object of the game is to beat up the villain that you are pitted against. You throw things at eachother and use violent moves on eachother. My sister had to stop playing at level 5 because the villain was getting too violent and her fingers were hurting from all the action! This game is a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, and I hope that the store will let us return it!!!! DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!!! ... Read more
