2-0 out of 5 stars THIS REALLY ISNT THAT GREAT
I DONT LIKE THIS GAME IT IS BORING

3-0 out of 5 stars To Buy... Or Not To Buy.... That is the Question
This game if not very a very good single player. The graphics are somewhat like Mario Cart Super Circuit but just do not seem as good. The tracks seem intersting and maybe if the person buying it was younger(6-10 years old) and liked Shrek more... maybe they would enjoy this game more than the older gamers (11-14 years old... Its price is reasonable but it the racers are tiny and are sometimes difficult to see without squinting. This toy is not very educational because all it shows you is how to handle a GBA... Also ALL GBA Games are durable (they do not break as easy) so that is why i gave it 5 StArs-*~ Overall I did not really like this game but it is your own choice. It basically depends on the audience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Multiplayer, mediocre single player
Let me begin by saying description of this game being only 1 and 2 player is wrong. I have played this game with 4 of my friends, and the multiplayer modes are a lot of fun (Knight's Tournament, and Parfait Getaway more so than Race). It is ashame that the single player mode was not as good. However, there are some interesting levels. If I were younger, I probably would have enjoyed this game a bit more.

1-0 out of 5 stars The only thing that is Shrek like is that the game stinks
Simply awful: lousy graphics, sound and gameplay.Imitates Mario Kart (same game strucutre) and does it badly.Do not buy play or look at.

1-0 out of 5 stars I don't think so!
The second that I saw this game, I said "This can't be good." I tried a demo version of it and it [was bad]. An easy way to explain this game is a bad Mario Kart with ugly racers (sorry Shrek) and badly designed courses. I'm begging, can they please make a GOOD Shrek game! It was such a great movie, but all the games are so bad. It just doesn't make sense! So, stay away from ALL Shrek games, but get the DVD or VHS because it is a great movie. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Featuring 16 of the best leagues and more than 75 national teams, 2002 FIFA World Cup brings the game of the world to your fingertips. You will execute curling corner kicks, awesome slide tackles, shots from the top of the box, crunching challenges, and palm-wringing penalty kicks.

Among the major enhancements to this version is the passing system--the core of any real soccer (football) game. It now emulates the same decisions made in a real match. Gamers can place the ball anywhere on the field of play, resulting in an immensely increased repertoire of developing plays. Teammates now make long up-field runs, diagonal runs through the midfield, and streaks across the back of an opponent's defense. They'll call for the ball as they break, letting you know to pass to the space ahead of them.

EA Sports also totally rewrote the AI. The AI now searches for space and key weaknesses in your team's positioning, and will make off-the-ball runs or build up intelligent passing plays before striking a precise through ball behind your last line. Depending on the difficulty level, the AI will create a much more interesting and challenging opponent than in previous versions. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I am surprised there isn't a zero stars option!
I love playing sports games, but this is the most boring game I have ever played in my entire lifetime.I only did one soccer game, and I turned it off within five minutes.Trust me, don't waste your money on this dumb video game!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
THIS GAME IS NO GOOD!The case lies and shows that there is neat graphics for the game when actually it is a blur! The people are really fuzzy. The action is sluggish and the people move slowly. The introduction is cool but unfortunately that is the best part...it all goes downhill from there.Don't waste your money on this game.EA can do better than this!

3-0 out of 5 stars Only so much to improve but...
EA is the leader in sports related games. With Madden and their soccor games they have truly led the way in the team sports market of video games. Their soccer games have been great, but have remained basically the same for the last 3 years. This version actually attempts, but fails in adding that extra something. The shooting is absurd, the longer you hold the button the stronger the kick. This makes no sense...you can physically kick harder with a swift boot, not rev-up and slow down. As usual the goal-keeping in EA soccer games is terrible. You have little to no control a goalie...it is a real bummer.

Nothing new here, just the same material released the previous 3-5 years.

1-0 out of 5 stars EA [disappoints]!!!
This game is simply terrible for a number of reasons.20 stadiums--the only difference you notice is the ads on the sideline (some stadiums have more McDonnalds ads, while others emphasize adidas and yahoo). You can only play with groups that are predetermined. So if you play with England, you will always start out with the same group, over and over and over again. The only extra teams available are not even in the top ten group (Holland is not there altogether, for example). The commentaries are 80% directly from FIFA 2002, which are 80% from FIFA 2001.The graphics and gameplay is likewise.Playing on the highest difficulty setting, I won the world cup with Tunisia on the first try.The computer oppenent had 5 red cards. As a matter of fact, I have not played a game without any red cards yet--red cards punishing AI.Furthermore, the developers have no concenpt of advantage play. Most of the goals scored were penalty shots. It's not fun winning 5-1 when the five goals are scored by penalties.AI will attack you as soon as you enter the penalty area and get a red card.Free kicks stink--you can never make a decent effort. No effort was put into this game.I would not spend a dollar on the game if I could play it in advance. It seems that EA produced this game overnight, without putting any efforts into it.If they had a grain of honesty, they would have included the world cup in FIFA 2002.I was very opptimistic when I purchased the game, and a day later, I could not be more disappointed.EA should be ashamed of this indecency.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Best game ever. It has the grooviest moves and supreme action. If you are a socccer fan then get this game. Even if you want to p[lay a few hours. This is your dream game.Get It. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Review

Football junkies have long been accustomed to loving gridiron video games while tolerating their weaknesses. We appreciate the fact that developers try to incorporate genuine college or pro atmospheres into the games, but it drives us nuts when the fight songs are incorrect, the out patterns are automatic, or the running game is unrealistically easy or hard.

But then along comes NCAA Football 2003 by EA Sports, a game so good that after a few weeks, even your dog will wonder why you never find the time to communicate anymore. Start with the AI--by far the best yet in a college game. Defenses not only react to your play calling and adjust their strategies as the game evolves, but they expertly disguise their coverages and swarm to the ball with speed and decisiveness. In addition, your computer opponent actually makes intelligent clock decisions when time is running out (shocking!). The running game at times is a bit easy on the lower difficulty levels (especially if a back like Oregon's Onterrio Smith has the ball), but that's why they made All-American and Heisman levels.

The graphics, as are typical in football video games over the last couple of years, are extremely good, and the between-play animations provide extra spark to the rivalries (taunting runs rampant). But the graphics aren't the star of the show--it's the dynasty mode, stupid. With enough special features and stat categories to keep college football hopheads happy for months--including a comprehensive recruiting engine, a customizable intro screen that features your favorite school's colors and fight song, and a Trophy Room that displays all your bowl and rivalry game hardware--NCAA Football 2003 just might make fans forget the depressing length of the off-season. --Rivers Janssen

Pros:

  • Terrific AI
  • Fans of almost any Division I program will be happy with the team-specific features
  • Passing engine actually requires you to read defenses intelligently

Cons:

  • Commentary is a bit predictable

ncaa 2003 is good but madden nfl is better because the graphics are more realistic etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!
I bought this game and wow!The graphics are amazing and the rosters are right on target. The controls are pretty simple and the play calling is easy.It includes all of the NCAA division one football teams and has all of the players on the rosters. It is really fun because you win trophies from playing your rivals. It also features all of the fight songs for each team. There are also modes where you can create a team and a player, play seasons or own a dynasty, and play mascot mode to have a little fun.All in all, this game is the best sports game I have ever played.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Taken to Football Heaven!
This game is loaded with trophies to win and hundreds of college football teams. My brother got it 2 years ago and still plays it! It has a huge replay value. This game is probably the best game ever for gamecube! There is one bad thing though. It takes up over 200 blocks. But Still, I would pay $100 for this game instead of $70 ($50 for game and $20 for memory card)! It is also very educational. A+++

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow.
I was blown away by how great this game is. It forced me to learn about football, rather than just mash buttons and call random plays. My housemates and I have started a dynasty, and it's great. We have so much fun playing and talking trash. I'd recommend this game to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gamer from Arizona
This is the best game I have ever played. I can stay on for hours at a time. The best part of this game is he camera view. It's closer to the field then Madden and taht makes it much beter to play.
Some games make it impossible to get passed their offense line and you can never get a sack. other games make it to easy. This one is just right.
I love the campus challenges. You can get hall of fame teams such as All-Pro Florida or All-American 2000 team. Then there are team pennants and stadium bowl and mascot teams. If there is a game that you need to get this is the one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but some flaws
Personally, I thought this was the best College Football game out there for the X Box.The controls are almost exactly like Madden's and the play is fun.The only drawback for me was the fact that they changed one button on the play calling screen.Call it what you will, but to be used to Madden and the way these games played on the PS2 before which all used THE SAME BUTTON CONFIGURATIONS and to have that changed for no apparent reason really irked me.I can't tell you the number of times that I'd switch between Madden and NCAA and make incorrect play calls because I was used to the other playcalling menu.It just doesn't make sense, but it's only a minor drawback to a solid game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must buy
Honestly, this is by far the best college sports game to eve come out.I would put it right up there with Madden 2003 in terms of graphics and Franchise/Dynasty Mode.It may even have the edge over Madden.Personally I am a junkie for the Dynasty/Franchise Mode, I love it.Nothing comes close to this.In depth recruiting that will blow your mind, scouting profiles, coaching contacts, job offers, tons of teams to choose from.Start at a small school and work your way up to a big program. It's phenominal.I honestly can not think of a single criticism, except that it may be a bit too easy to score on offense but then again college football is a high scoring game.At this point wait until the 2004 game comes out and then buy, I can't even imagine how they might improve it b/c it's already simply amazing. Must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game, very addictive but not perfect
I bought this game when I bought my xbox a few weeks back. It took me a few days to learn the basics. Once you learn the basics and learn to call the audibles you are unstoppable. I have completed 6 seasons winning the national championship in the last 5 years and the rose bowl during the first year. The point I am getting at is if you have a good QB/Receiver combo, you will be able to beat the computer most of the time by calling by passing audible. I ran the same play 6 times and was able to get a completetion to the same receiver every time.

Apart from that everything else is great. The reality is amazing. The stadiums, the fans, the rivalries, the players are all very good. A must buy if you are college football fan. You can export the draft class and import it into Madden. How good is that..

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, realistic, great fun
I've been a Madden junkie ever since the Sega Genesis days of the early '90s. I tried the college football equivalent at some point in the '90s and found it much inferior to what Madden was doing. That definitely isn't the case any more.

The first college game I tried on x box is the Sega game, and I found it very awkward and hard to get a feel for. This could be because I am so accustomed to the EA style of play calling. I found this EA game available for [money] here on Amazon, so I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm really glad I did. I have to say I prefer it to Madden in most respects. The simulation is amazingly realistic, and the college atmosphere with the rivalries, conferences, etc., makes for a more entertaining game. The NFL game may be "technically" superior, but this one is definitely more fun. Any college football fan needs to have this game -- it is a real thrill to take your team to to the field.

My only complaint would be that it takes so long to load. ... Read more

Amazon.co.uk Review

Sega Soccer Slam may mention the beautiful sport in its title, but you’ll not find any competition here for the FIFAs or Pro Evolutions of this world. This is pure arcade soccer: loud, colorful, completely unrealistic, yet soooo much fun. Gameplay is simple: three-a-side fast footie action. You can head, dummy, slide-tackle, shoot, pass, and conjure some quite unbelievable super-special shots using button combos and shot gauges. The pace is frenetic, with most games being tense 9-7 affairs. The soccer action plays really well.

The game is similar in style to Virtua Tennis in concept, though a lot less serious. Modes of play are standard: arcade, tournament, quest, etc. Play out the quest mode and the similarity to the aforementioned tennis title is clear. You select one of six preset teams based on continent and elemental power. Fire, water, toxic, spirit, electric, and ice form the special powers that each team can unleash on the pitch.

Teams are taken on in a round-robin style league with a special challenge offered to you after each match. The challenges are fun and in the style of Virtua Tennis--complete each one and you’ll be given cash to spend in the shop, where you can purchase kit upgrades, new grounds, game artwork, and more. Win the leagues and you'll be able to unlock extra hidden teams. Other game modes allow you to create a personalized super team and unlock more characters.

The game's graphics are excellent and each player is instantly recognizable with great animations and detail. The stadiums are well animated and the sound effects are vibrant. The game oozes Sega quality. All in all, Sega Soccer Slam is ideal for those less serious sessions and for pick-up-and-play gaming. --Laurent S. Hall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!
This game is very good. The graphics are pretty good and the music is also. The controls are easy and there are so many tracks to choose from! This game is a must for first-time gamers who don't like really bloody games.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun to play
I would have given this game 5 stars but it didn't have the Road Runner and it could have better graphics. Still my 4 year old son loves it and we enjoy playing it a lot. In easy mode is really easy and even he can win races. I like it because is not one of thos impossible to play games with 900 levels of which unless you are a big time gamer you'll only get to see 2 of them.

2-0 out of 5 stars My kids thought it was OK but .....
I thought it [stunk].How can a game that has to be played on a 250 dollar machine be so far behind with graphics?OK if you are 6 years old.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too hard to control
I find this game to be very frustrating. The slightest touch of the controller sends the characters flying off the race track.I tried it with a steering wheel with no better results.I can't do it, let alone my 5 year old.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading on the characters
...I saw it on amazon and wanted it because I am a huge fan of Taz and saw that he was in the game. But when my wife and I played it, neither of us could find Taz and I was very disappointed with that finding.I still enjoy the game, but on the other hand, I am upset that they mentioned Taz being in the game, and he wasn't. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars add more please
backyard basketball is okay but it lacks so many things. For one it's way to easy. Second not enough pro players you can just take all the pro's if there was more it would be harder. Third no pro teams it would be better with pro teams so then it would be at least a little bit realilistic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay, I guess.
This is probably the best backyard sports game yet. I love collecting power-up`s. But I agree with other reviewers, it is much to easy. After a while it can get boring clinching the play-off spot, staying undefeated, win by a huge margin each and every game, easily winning trophies, etc. I would still put this down as one of my favorite games, though. I enjoy playing as superstars such as: Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie. I also like playing as unbelievely fast Pete Wheeler, spanish talking Pablo Sanchez, (for you cheaters I know what your thinking), and baseball star Kiesha Phillips. Please buy this game!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but needs a little work
When I got Backyard Basketball I was so excited! I would play and play until I got a little tired of it. I rated this item a 4 because I think they should put in real NBA teams instead of created teams. I also rated it a 4 because I think that you should get to play with 5 people on the court, not 3.

2-0 out of 5 stars They shoot -- they miss by a million miles.
What a waste.I wouldn't buy this piece of junk for more than ten dollars. It is a mildly fun game, but the graphics are terrible and the game is just TOO EASY!You basically just have to click around the screen to steal the ball and shoot it into the basket. The game is also completely non-realistic.The kids in the game can make shots all the way across the court that Michael Jordon could never make.Only buy this game if you are reaady to win by scores like "150" to "10."

3-0 out of 5 stars 140-2? That's Not Right!
Don't get me wrong, this game is pretty fun. At first. When you get used to the controls(that'll take 1 minute), the game loses interest. Why? You can't lose. I don't think I've ever seen a basketball game that has ended 140 to 2. If there has been, I know one team that's pitiful. You can draft the worst players and still win by 100 points.

The game starts by picking your team and making your coach name. Then, you can pick through an average amount of players for your team. It doesn't matter what their stats are. You'll still be undefeaten after the season. Then, you play the game. Why is this game so easy? But, the only thing keeping you from a 200-0 game is the fouls. They call an unbelievable amount of fouls. Can you move without getting a penalty?

But, after you turn the fouls off, it's not fun. But, it's not fun with fouls, either. That's a problem. If this game was harder, you'd have a great game. But, it's not hard, so it's not fun. It's fun to have KG on your team scoring dunks from half-court. You can substitute when a quarter gets over, but if you do it, the commentary doesn't pick a Player of the Game. That's a good thing about the game. Who will get the Player of the Game? The best player doesn't get the prize, though? It's usually the amateur player that scores 2 points.

Oh, well. There's NBA Street for a good power-uppy not real basketball game. There's NBA Jam for big-headed weirdos playing basketball. And, you can't abandon the NBA Live series for good ol' regular basketball. I'll give Backyard Basketball an average 3 out of 5. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The best NBA game out there.
This game is the best NBA game out there. It has great graphics and detail. The free throws are challenging but not to hard like NBA Live 2003.Put it this way I bought NBA Live 2003 to give it a chance and give it two thumbs down.Today I'm going to Toys R Us to buy NBA Inside Drive 2003.But this version is the best yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars it's an all around great game
This game a great game to play with your friends.Evert time we play its a blast. The dunks are ausome, you can even break the rim. This game is also real it exactly like playing a real basketball game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft's First Venture Into the Basketball World Is a....
Failure.Here's why

1. No Franchise mode, I mean come on!Franchise is everything, and is what killed this game.No franchise = No real fun.I probably would have gotten it if this hadn't been the case.

2. The overall gameply.According to everyone it's to easy, the annoucers are horrible, the players look stiff. And is it just me, or is the stadium really dark?So much more could have been done.Better gameplay, graphics, and overall depth is how this game failed.

What I did like about this game was the passing and shooting style. The passes were cool and easy, and the shots looked awsome.Unfortunantly, everything is dark, the rims dont look like rims, and the gameplay is easy to beat.Trust me, I've played this game.

Overall, this game just didn't live up to what it could have been. But Microsoft already fixed the problem with the 2003 edition. The game has a ton of dunks, fluid player animations, and a whopping 25 season franchise mode.Sure, it's 60% more to pay, but it's either that, or this.Go for the new and improved 2003 edition.Either that, or go for NBA Live 2002 or NBA 2K2.Thx!

3-0 out of 5 stars A little disapointing.
I was really looking forward to NBA Inside Drive. I had been playing NFL Fever for months and thought this would be the B-ball equivilant. It's NOT!The graphics are decent (NFL Fever is better), the play-by-play announcers are entertaining, and there are some cool dunk sequences, but it left me wanting more.I think the main reason I tired of this game much more quickly that NFL Fever is the lack of a Dynasty mode. There is no salary cap,no create-a-player, and no dynamic player performance.Sooo, the team you create, is pretty much the team your stuck with, game after game, season after season etc. etc.I bought this game and really don't feel it was worth the $$$.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME !
There is a dispute with Inside Drive and NBA 2K2. Well I have played both games. Both of these games are 5 star. I think they are both evenly matched. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It is good, when standing alone.
I would greatly suggest this game to anyone I know.Definetly one of the best Football Games in the world, and I've played them all.You probably are wondering by now 'why the 3 stars then?'This is because, since I have played nearly all football games, I have seen this games master.I'm talking about nothing else, but NFL Madden 2003.Sure, the intro for Gameday is hella tight, and almost makes buying the game worth it.But, when compared to the almightly Madden, this game is nothing. This game is simpler, yet with much fewer choices. If you have this game, Warning:DON'T PLAY MADDEN OR YOU'LL NEVER HAVE FUN WITH GAMEDAY AGAIN!BE HAPPY WITH YOUR GAME AND LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

4-0 out of 5 stars Personal Favorite
I do not play alot of football games, but this one is best of all.Good graphics, online capability, nice play setup, and, best of all, you can tackle the refs. I gave it 4 because it could have been better, but then again so could most games.

3-0 out of 5 stars Missing Realism Components takes away from the game
I have been a fan of the gameday series ever since I got my first PS1 and Gameday 99. Now, with Gameday 2003, the content of the game is remarkable. There is no doubt in my mind that it is a very fun and exciting game. However, even little details are noticeable and may take away from the game if you're a big buff football fan/player (like me!). Though it is true the CPU AI is at its best, there are still a few little things that make it kinda dull:
- CPU does not down the ball on a kickoff when the ball is kicked deep into its endzone.
- The fair catch feature sucks.
- The reaction time i think is slower than some previous gameday games.
- Like every gameday game, there is still a pass-happy cpu, which makes it difficult to get a high ranking on pass defense, but an incredible first place rank against the run.
- Worst of all, I think (like in madden) there should've been a challenged feature. I mean I replay my plays and see calls that should not have been made and there's nothing i can do about it.
- I have gone a whole season and more than a half, and still have not had any injuries nor penalties (and they are on high), which i'll take but it takes away from the realism of the game. The only penalties I've had were pass interference, and offsides. and once in every like million (exaggerating) they'll be a personal foul call. As for the injuries, the only time they happen is when you work your OFFENSIVE player WHO HAS THE BALL to hard. I have had no defensive injuries except when i recover the ball and run and then once in a while a hamstring pull will come up.

Despite this, the game is good. I think for next year though, they should incorporate more realism into the game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could of been better
This game is a pretty good football game for the Ps2 overall, but needs improvement in some areas. The grafics could of been a lot better, especially on Ps2, but that is the biggest downfall. It has plenty of options, besides not having a franchise mode. You can choose from all the stadiums to play in, as well as all the old ones too.The playbook looks better than Madden 2003's, and you have good control in this game.I would reccomend this game for the lower price, but if you want great grafics go for Nfl 2k3.

3-0 out of 5 stars More hype than anything else
I have just turned in my dreamcast for the PS2 and am also an owner of the PS1. I was excited when I first heard of this and have always been a fan of the Gameday series. However, I was very disappointed in this game compared to Gameday versions on the PS1 and the NFL2k series for the dreamcast. The play was sloppy and the graffics have taken a turn for the worst. Choosing plays make it more difficult because you can only tell what a play is if you have it in the middle of the screen. The anouncers are a plus as well as the opening of the game. Other than that, it just doesn't live up to the hype and the PS1 versions are better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating at first, but eventually proves its worth
When I first played Agetec's Kickboxing by Jorudan Co., Ltd., and D3 Publisher, Inc., I had only the faintest clue as to what I was supposed to be doing. After all, the game only relies upon three of the four buttons on the standard PSX controller (The triangle button is never used.), and the mashing of these buttons tends to be the choice strategy for most players. Similarly, CPU-controlled opponents can be pretty cheap at certain times, yet complete pushovers at other moments, hence demonstrating an imbalance in their AI on the whole. Still, once gamers learn each competitor's strengths, weaknesses, combo system, and special moves, this hassle becomes more manageable for them, and they may even find themselves finding a favorite contestant out of the fifteen total fighters (each with their own personal background and gimmick) that this game has to offer.

The Story mode in Kickboxing can be pretty confusing at first, too, for upon defeating one of three possible opponents, a gamer no longer plays as the character (s)he had originally selected, but as the kickboxer (s)he had just defeated. The player then selects his/her next adversary out of three more contestants---some of whom (s)he may have already played as or against---and carries on in this matter until (s)he has no new opponents to face. When the game is over, the player is treated to an analysis of how many fighters (s)he was able to defeat and therefore unlock, the number and/or variety of which is different almost every time (s)he plays. The whole key, then, is to find the correct order in accessing the first fourteen fighters so that it is possible to finally face the elusive fifteenth competitor, defeat him, and complete the roster. Once the gamer manages to perform this task, the only truly bad thing they have to cope with is the goofy, semi-sensible dialogue that the characters exchange upon meeting one another.

In short, gamers have plenty to get used to upon first playing Agetec's Kickboxing, but once they do, they'll learn to appreciate this title. Additionally, the game has kid-friendly music and sound effects (although the addition of voice talent for referee officials and for each of the contestants would have been greatly appreciated) as well as very clean, crisp graphics and silky-smooth animation that many other PSX fighting games lack. Needless to say, then, this title has merit, and I would certainly recommend it to gamers who are growing tired of the same-old beat-'em-up.

Amazon.com Review

There's no sport like soccer for mud in your cleats, grit in your teeth, and the down-and-dirty thrill of competition. But, on those days between realgames, Humongous Entertainment's Backyard Soccer MLS Edition will satisfyyour soccer cravings with a virtual game that nails soccer's nuances whileadding some fantasy twists that should score big with both players and fans.

Players pick their team from a roster of 45: thirty are neighborhood kids, ranging from Kenny Kawaguchi in his wheelchair (who's like greased lightning onwheels, mind you) to bespectacled Lisa Crockett, a ball-control whiz. One of thefantasy twists is that kids can also appoint pint-sized versions of Major LeagueSoccer players and U.S. Women's National Team members to their own team. SoBrandi Chastain and Carlos Valderrama mix it up with the Backyard gangand whoever is running the mouse.

Each player comes with a complete list of soccer skills and quirks that affecthis or her performance on the field. Some have hot tempers, some have asthma, and some can't stand to play with their little sister on the same team. All ofthis information is initially confusing, but it gives the game depth and realismas players get to know each kid and learn how to put together a great team.

In addition to picking a team, players also choose a team name (all 12 Major League Soccer team names and logos are there for the picking, whilenonconformists can name their own), playing surface, one of three levels of gamedifficulty, and duration. A head-to-head capability lets friends play friends. There are simple Friendly Match games that don't get saved by the computer, andthere's Season Play with statistics, strategy, and playoffs that send victorshome with the Astonishingly Shiny Cup-of-All-Cups Cup.

During play, a mouse, keyboard, or game pad controls the action, and players useevery member of their team. Power-ups add a dimension not seen in real soccerplay; kick an undergrounder or a homing ball and you'll never look at thatbeat-up black-and-white ball in your garage the same way again. Stylistically, thefolks at Humongous have it dialed in as well. All 45 players have distinctpersonalities, the play-by-play is both informative and funny, and there's eveninstant replay to watch that heinous foul close up, in slow motion.

Although a soccer neophyte can play this game, its vast array of choices, strategies, and rules is bound to be confusing at first. But that samecomplexity is what gives this virtual soccer game legs, complete with shinguards. Backyard Soccer truly shines in the hands of a kid who's on asoccer team (and what kid isn't nowadays?), stuck inside with a computer insteadof outside with buddies and a ball. Great CD-ROM.My husband even enjoys playing with my daughters.Make sure you get the MLS version though. We've owned it for about 8 months and they still love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!!!
Okay graphics in this game are very good. Gameplay kept me up all night playing it!!! This game is AWSOME for players who like to play soccer ( I love soccer played it for 6 years)But even those who dont really like soccer will like this game!

2-0 out of 5 stars All the season in a day
This game isn't all that great. It has a time limit of 2 minutes per half. You can play over 10 games in a day. In backyard baseball you can barely get 1 game in. This is also a very easy game. Occasionaly you get a really good team that beat you in the shootout which is really hard. This game is like beep. Only not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, not for low battery power
I have a Game Boy Color and bought this a few months ago. It's great when my batteries are new. But when batteries are almost out of energy, don't use this. I put it in the middle of a game. Batteries not so good. The power indicator light was alot dimmer. I take it out, it's back to normal. Other than a glare also, it's great since the Game Boy doesn't have a backlit screen like the Sega Game Gear. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best light out there
Don't be fooled by the cobra light and bone light, or other cheap lights. this is the one that should be bought. it stays in the gameboy like it's suppose to. It's also cheap, is bright, lightweight and small, so it's good for any game boy. It works on the game boy pocket, color, and advance, so there is no need to buy more lights. even better, there is a huge selection of colors for it. buy it the light has weak points, like that very annoying glare it gives off. it's also kind of stiff when you flex it. but it's a very good buy, it's also good if you want life for your gba, intead of buying an SP, you coukld one of these instead.(Forget about the SP's stupid clamshell design! If you don't care about scratching the screen)

5-0 out of 5 stars Looks good
This looks like a good idea for playing int he dark. for the next revewer i have a question: does this work on game boy advance

4-0 out of 5 stars In the way.
I bought a worm light for my gameboy color and though it is extremely helpfull for use in the dark it can also be in the way a little bit. For example it has a tendancy to shine alot of light on 1 area and not another. Also mine, on numerous occations, got loose and fell out of my gameboy, wich as you know in the dark can be incredibly annoying and can cause you to lose the game. Also a small amount of times it got in my way so that i could not see the screen.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm not sure how this light is supposed to help.
I bought this light in hopes that it would make my gameboy color easier to play in dim light. No such luck.I really don't understand how this light is supposed to do anything. It just adds a nice glare to the screen. The only way a light would work is if the system had a back light, or if there was an accessory to do this (highly unlikely).I would just save your money and stand near a very bright light when playing your gameboy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good tool for learning to read...
Yes, it is true that this game requires reading. Try the Dora games if that is an issue. But if you are actually going to sit and teach, sounding out words, it is a great game for 4 - 5 year olds. My daughter loves it, and we play it together. If you are looking for Edutainment this is a great title. If you are looking for a game that just keeps the kids busy while you drive, this is not the game for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worst basketball game ever
When I went to the store looking for basketball games this was the cheapest one so I got but It has bad graphics, only one rookie player on each team, so there are no second rounders or ect. 989 sports make bad games except for football games. The commentry is real bad. Players start to twicth. no real actuall player numbers for example Amare Stoudimire's number is 32 in the game its 40. Its a real disapointment.

2-0 out of 5 stars I thought dis game would be nice
this game is borin. after reading yall reviews i thought this game would be nice.the graphics is garbage, defense is bad,the shooting is way to easy, and the starting of the game is bad. RENT IT DONT BUY IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars A winner
I'll keep this short. Are the graphics the best I've ever seen? No. The commentary and PA system announcements give a nice touch to the audio of the game. I like being able to skip to the playoffs without playing a season if you want to. Also, the Career mode is nice because it lets you play for whatever team you like. You reallyfeel like you are in control of your created players destiny. It's nice to be able to create "yourself" and play on your favorite NBA squad. You can even make your own dunks to use in your games. So why do I call this a winner? Well, the reason is because to me it's FUN to play. That's what's most important with any game, no matter what it is, is that you have fun when you play it. Next to that, graphics, sound, and all that technical stuff is pretty much a secondary issue.Give it a chance and you just might feel the same way about it. Peace, and God bless you.

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME IS FOR PEOPLE WHO REALLY LIKE BASKETBALL.
This game is for people who REALY like basketball! The graphics are OK. The career mode is kind of stupid. If you don't do well in the summer leage you don't get to play for a real NBA team. Season mode is the bomb though. You can set it to any kind of diffcally you like. You can also trade for anyone you want and you will get them. There is also a practice mode, where you can practice shooting and dunking. You can create your own dunk and use it in game too. Also you can skip the season and go right to the playoffs. That is all I have to say. Peace Out

2-0 out of 5 stars CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A GOOD BASKETBALL GAME?
Well, I must say this game is terrible. When you're playing a game, the center and each of the forwards on the other team have about 10 blocks per game. The moves are useless, and you can get near the basket about 10% of the time. If you do get to the basket, the defender blocks your shot about half of the time. The career mode's concept is good, but when you create your player, you have to use just the right combinations to keep your player from looking like a freak. Also, the AI was killing me on career mode because difficulty was set to VETERAN. I went back to the main menu, switched to ROOKIE, started another career mode, and sure enough, it was back on VETERAN. I tried this multiple times, but had no luck. Rent it and see what you think. ... Read more
