Amazon.com Product Description Among the major enhancements to this version is the passing system--the core of any real soccer (football) game. It now emulates the same decisions made in a real match. Gamers can place the ball anywhere on the field of play, resulting in an immensely increased repertoire of developing plays. Teammates now make long up-field runs, diagonal runs through the midfield, and streaks across the back of an opponent's defense. They'll call for the ball as they break, letting you know to pass to the space ahead of them. EA Sports also totally rewrote the AI. The AI now searches for space and key weaknesses in your team's positioning, and will make off-the-ball runs or build up intelligent passing plays before striking a precise through ball behind your last line. Depending on the difficulty level, the AI will create a much more interesting and challenging opponent than in previous versions. Reviews (9)
Nothing new here, just the same material released the previous 3-5 years.

Amazon.com Product Review But then along comes NCAA Football 2003 by EA Sports, a game so good that after a few weeks, even your dog will wonder why you never find the time to communicate anymore. Start with the AI--by far the best yet in a college game. Defenses not only react to your play calling and adjust their strategies as the game evolves, but they expertly disguise their coverages and swarm to the ball with speed and decisiveness. In addition, your computer opponent actually makes intelligent clock decisions when time is running out (shocking!). The running game at times is a bit easy on the lower difficulty levels (especially if a back like Oregon's Onterrio Smith has the ball), but that's why they made All-American and Heisman levels. The graphics, as are typical in football video games over the last couple of years, are extremely good, and the between-play animations provide extra spark to the rivalries (taunting runs rampant). But the graphics aren't the star of the show--it's the dynasty mode, stupid. With enough special features and stat categories to keep college football hopheads happy for months--including a comprehensive recruiting engine, a customizable intro screen that features your favorite school's colors and fight song, and a Trophy Room that displays all your bowl and rivalry game hardware--NCAA Football 2003 just might make fans forget the depressing length of the off-season. --Rivers Janssen Pros: Cons: Note: This review refers to the PlayStation2 version of the game. Apart from that everything else is great. The reality is amazing. The stadiums, the fans, the rivalries, the players are all very good. A must buy if you are college football fan. You can export the draft class and import it into Madden. How good is that..
The first college game I tried on x box is the Sega game, and I found it very awkward and hard to get a feel for. This could be because I am so accustomed to the EA style of play calling. I found this EA game available for [money] here on Amazon, so I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm really glad I did. I have to say I prefer it to Madden in most respects. The simulation is amazingly realistic, and the college atmosphere with the rivalries, conferences, etc., makes for a more entertaining game. The NFL game may be "technically" superior, but this one is definitely more fun. Any college football fan needs to have this game -- it is a real thrill to take your team to to the field. My only complaint would be that it takes so long to load. ... Read more | |

Amazon.co.uk Review The game is similar in style to Virtua Tennis in concept, though a lot less serious. Modes of play are standard: arcade, tournament, quest, etc. Play out the quest mode and the similarity to the aforementioned tennis title is clear. You select one of six preset teams based on continent and elemental power. Fire, water, toxic, spirit, electric, and ice form the special powers that each team can unleash on the pitch. Teams are taken on in a round-robin style league with a special challenge offered to you after each match. The challenges are fun and in the style of Virtua Tennis--complete each one and youll be given cash to spend in the shop, where you can purchase kit upgrades, new grounds, game artwork, and more. Win the leagues and you'll be able to unlock extra hidden teams. Other game modes allow you to create a personalized super team and unlock more characters. The game's graphics are excellent and each player is instantly recognizable with great animations and detail. The stadiums are well animated and the sound effects are vibrant. The game oozes Sega quality. All in all, Sega Soccer Slam is ideal for those less serious sessions and for pick-up-and-play gaming. --Laurent S. Hall Reviews (3)

The game starts by picking your team and making your coach name. Then, you can pick through an average amount of players for your team. It doesn't matter what their stats are. You'll still be undefeaten after the season. Then, you play the game. Why is this game so easy? But, the only thing keeping you from a 200-0 game is the fouls. They call an unbelievable amount of fouls. Can you move without getting a penalty? But, after you turn the fouls off, it's not fun. But, it's not fun with fouls, either. That's a problem. If this game was harder, you'd have a great game. But, it's not hard, so it's not fun. It's fun to have KG on your team scoring dunks from half-court. You can substitute when a quarter gets over, but if you do it, the commentary doesn't pick a Player of the Game. That's a good thing about the game. Who will get the Player of the Game? The best player doesn't get the prize, though? It's usually the amateur player that scores 2 points. Oh, well. There's NBA Street for a good power-uppy not real basketball game. There's NBA Jam for big-headed weirdos playing basketball. And, you can't abandon the NBA Live series for good ol' regular basketball. I'll give Backyard Basketball an average 3 out of 5. ... 1. No Franchise mode, I mean come on!Franchise is everything, and is what killed this game.No franchise = No real fun.I probably would have gotten it if this hadn't been the case. 2. The overall gameply.According to everyone it's to easy, the annoucers are horrible, the players look stiff. And is it just me, or is the stadium really dark?So much more could have been done.Better gameplay, graphics, and overall depth is how this game failed. What I did like about this game was the passing and shooting style. The passes were cool and easy, and the shots looked awsome.Unfortunantly, everything is dark, the rims dont look like rims, and the gameplay is easy to beat.Trust me, I've played this game. Overall, this game just didn't live up to what it could have been. But Microsoft already fixed the problem with the 2003 edition. The game has a ton of dunks, fluid player animations, and a whopping 25 season franchise mode.Sure, it's 60% more to pay, but it's either that, or this.Go for the new and improved 2003 edition.Either that, or go for NBA Live 2002 or NBA 2K2.Thx!

The Story mode in Kickboxing can be pretty confusing at first, too, for upon defeating one of three possible opponents, a gamer no longer plays as the character (s)he had originally selected, but as the kickboxer (s)he had just defeated. The player then selects his/her next adversary out of three more contestants---some of whom (s)he may have already played as or against---and carries on in this matter until (s)he has no new opponents to face. When the game is over, the player is treated to an analysis of how many fighters (s)he was able to defeat and therefore unlock, the number and/or variety of which is different almost every time (s)he plays. The whole key, then, is to find the correct order in accessing the first fourteen fighters so that it is possible to finally face the elusive fifteenth competitor, defeat him, and complete the roster. Once the gamer manages to perform this task, the only truly bad thing they have to cope with is the goofy, semi-sensible dialogue that the characters exchange upon meeting one another. In short, gamers have plenty to get used to upon first playing Agetec's Kickboxing, but once they do, they'll learn to appreciate this title. Additionally, the game has kid-friendly music and sound effects (although the addition of voice talent for referee officials and for each of the contestants would have been greatly appreciated) as well as very clean, crisp graphics and silky-smooth animation that many other PSX fighting games lack. Needless to say, then, this title has merit, and I would certainly recommend it to gamers who are growing tired of the same-old beat-'em-up.

Amazon.com Review Players pick their team from a roster of 45: thirty are neighborhood kids, ranging from Kenny Kawaguchi in his wheelchair (who's like greased lightning onwheels, mind you) to bespectacled Lisa Crockett, a ball-control whiz. One of thefantasy twists is that kids can also appoint pint-sized versions of Major LeagueSoccer players and U.S. Women's National Team members to their own team. SoBrandi Chastain and Carlos Valderrama mix it up with the Backyard gangand whoever is running the mouse. Each player comes with a complete list of soccer skills and quirks that affecthis or her performance on the field. Some have hot tempers, some have asthma, and some can't stand to play with their little sister on the same team. All ofthis information is initially confusing, but it gives the game depth and realismas players get to know each kid and learn how to put together a great team. In addition to picking a team, players also choose a team name (all 12 Major League Soccer team names and logos are there for the picking, whilenonconformists can name their own), playing surface, one of three levels of gamedifficulty, and duration. A head-to-head capability lets friends play friends. There are simple Friendly Match games that don't get saved by the computer, andthere's Season Play with statistics, strategy, and playoffs that send victorshome with the Astonishingly Shiny Cup-of-All-Cups Cup. During play, a mouse, keyboard, or game pad controls the action, and players useevery member of their team. Power-ups add a dimension not seen in real soccerplay; kick an undergrounder or a homing ball and you'll never look at thatbeat-up black-and-white ball in your garage the same way again. Stylistically, thefolks at Humongous have it dialed in as well. All 45 players have distinctpersonalities, the play-by-play is both informative and funny, and there's eveninstant replay to watch that heinous foul close up, in slow motion. Although a soccer neophyte can play this game, its vast array of choices, strategies, and rules is bound to be confusing at first. But that samecomplexity is what gives this virtual soccer game legs, complete with shinguards. Backyard Soccer truly shines in the hands of a kid who's on asoccer team (and what kid isn't nowadays?), stuck inside with a computer insteadof outside with buddies and a ball.
