5-0 out of 5 stars My first game
This was the first game I EVER played. It really is cool, with 12
levels and plenty of secrets. Like in the third level, if you go all the way to the left and jump, it revels a block that will take you up to the cealing to get a bunch of coins, or that you can go inside some of the flower pots. I've been playing this game for 9 years, and I'm certain I don't know all the secrets. Anywho, people are complaining that you can't save: here's the question: why do you need to? The game can be beaten in thirty minutes...non-saving just adds to the replay value.

3-0 out of 5 stars itssooooooooofun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think that this game is really likean expert version of super mario brothers 1 because it has almost the same graphics.itseemslikeagoodgamebecausemariogets to fly andswim inasub!i giveit3 stars cause 1itishard tofirefireballs 2ndwhen you jumpon a koopatheshell [Explodes]!(...)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the finest GB games ever made
Alright, I know there are those with the gripes (can't save, only 12 levels, blah blah blah) but this game is pretty old guys. This game was released in 1989 and there weren't very many games back then that you actually could save on.Second, there are only 12 levels and they're extremely short. You can beat the game in simply 30 minutes. There should be no reason why anyone should have to save at all. It's very easy to rack up several lives thanks to the bonus game that Nintendo threw in as well.

For 1989 and for the early years of the Gameboy these graphics aren't bad. While they look like something seen on a graphing calculator they're not bad considering its age.

The game isn't too hard, but it isn't so easy either. The gameplay is similar to the original Mario Bros. on the NES.Except that you can't tell which power up you've got. That could be a problem.

The game can be played by just about anyone.Sure you can't save but you've got to remember the games AGE!Saving wouldn't become a norm until the early 90's in the day and age of the SNES.

2-0 out of 5 stars No saving?!? 12 levels?!? WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!?
This game kind of let me down.First of all, the graphics stink, but I don't care that much about that.Second of all, you can't save.Sure, the levels have thrilling challenges, but there's no point to them if every time you get a Game Over, you have to play it all over again. And I was pretty surprised when I found out that this game only had 12 levels.Oh well, it looks like Nintendo shaped up after that though, because I like most of the games that they have out today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and innovative!
You may cry: There are only 12 levels. In this game, though, the levels are longer and difficult. It is extremely fun and somewhat like the classic Mario game with the typical Daisy is captured plot. This is just plain good. What else is there to say? ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Well, if Pokémon can catch on in this country, there's no reason why Harvest Moon can't, too. This game takesthe farming-simulation concept from its Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64counterparts and shrinks it down, removing some favorable aspects butincluding many more.

The new version expands on the first Game Boy version, providing abigger world in which to tend your farm. There are also more tasks to doin a given day, such as planting this and milking that, and all of itmust be done at a frantic pace if everything is to be completed. Thepace of the game is what really makes it addicting, but players can alsotake the day off and play minigames, which are fun as well.

The one thing this game lacks is the dating and marriage aspect of theconsole games. This was one of the cutest features of the series, butthere still seems to be enough to warrant a play-through. --RobbGuido

Pros:

  • Seemingly unlimited tasks to complete every day of the game
  • Fun minigames
Cons:
  • No dating for the lead character

4-0 out of 5 stars Harvest Moon 2 Review
This game is so much fun, I can't put it down.I play all day long and it's still entertaining!I think I'm bordering on abseccion!!!!!My son loves it to... he never loses interest in it!The only reason I gave this game an overall of 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of dating.Other than that, this game is perfect!!! Hope you enjoy it to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesomely fun game
Harvest Moon 2 is an insanely fun game, which is pretty surprising, seeing as, well...it's a video game based on a farm. Whoever came up with the idea though, is intelligent.

The game starts off with the mayor of a small town being told that a historic farm will be turned into an amusement park. The mayor takes it upon himself to hire someone to fix up the farm, and make enough profit to save it. That's where you come in. You grow fruits and veggies (every season you get new ones), raise animals once you have enough feed/money, and you can fish and gather berries. Every so often new garden tools, extenions to your farm, or plants are available. But, you only have three years to raise enough money to save the farm.

Harvest Moon 2 is really, really fun, but there's a tick (it might just be in my game though, but I'm not sure) - you can't ever buy chickens. They're cheap, and a major source of money, but every time I go to buy them, the shop owner says I don't have enough feed. (I have the max. capacity of food stored in the silo.)

Overall grade - A

5-0 out of 5 stars As cool as a farming simulation can be!
Harvest moon is a great series. It is about farming. If you don't like wasting time moving around and doing virtual chores, don't get it. That means it is not boring. I bought HM2 once, and played it constantly. I was addicted! Unfortunately, I lost it in a move, and I was drawn here by it's low price without the auctions on eBay. I plan on buying it again. It's that good. If you want a better knowledge of the game, and whether you should get it, try Ushi no Tane. Just search on google or something for Ushi no Tane, which is THE BEST Harvest Moon 2 site I have ever seen. You'll learn anything you need to know there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Harvest moon 2
The game teaches us how to be responsible and take care of things
(too bad there isn't a game on money saving!!!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game, but a little too difficult
It's a great game, like all its predessors. The only problem I've seen is that it is a lot more difficult to make money from your crops. You also have to collect more grass to buy animals.I suggest you buy this game only if you are collecting them, otherwise, you should buy the title for the SNES, N64, Playstation, or PS2.This is because they have far more depth.Such as with the SNES version you can have around ten chickens, while on the gameboy edition you can only have four. ... Editorial Review

Attention, Metal Gear fans: larger-than-life action heroSolid Snake has been shrunk and now dwells inside your Game Boy Color. If you've always wanted to live the life of a secret agent while on thego with your GBC, Metal Gear Solid is the game to own.

Anyone familiar with the PlayStation title of the same name (or theolder Metal Gear game for the original Nintendo EntertainmentSystem) will be familiar with the gameplay. You are Solid Snake andmust rely more on stealth than brute force to sneak through a varietyof enemy-infested levels. The bad guys (and security cameras) have alimited cone of vision, and savvy players will stay out of thedetection zone so they can save their strength for the real challengesthat wait near the end of each level. Controls are simple buteffective. You can lay prone (a good way to disappear into mud or tallgrass), press up against walls, and easily access an inventory screento equip and use items. You'll find a plethora of weapons along theway, perfect for those moments when stealth alone just isn't going tocut it.

The graphics are great, but it's the spot-on accurate control thatmakes this game truly shine. Players are free to practice in nearly 200fun VR missions or can simply jump into the real thing: a 13-levelcampaign, complete with cut scenes. Konami packed an amazing amount ofexcitement into this little cartridge, making it a title no Game BoyColor owner will want to miss. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Nice graphics and animation for a GBC game
  • Much of the gameplay of the PlayStation hit compressed into ahandheld format
Cons:
  • Sometimes the screen just isn't big enough to make the game fair

5-0 out of 5 stars A GBC Masterpiece
Metal Gear Solid on the Gameboy Color is perhaps one of the most innovative the 8-bit handheld had.The game was released a few years ago but this is NOT a re-release of the PSX classic. Actually it only bears the same name. The plot and characters aren't connected to the playstation version in anyway.

Metal Gear Solid makes good use of the GBC's colors. This game is more colorful than a rainbow and the colors are vivid and bright (especially if you play it on a GBA SP).The graphics are also put to good use. It's a reminder of the graphics presented in the first Metal Gear game only you can now move in eight directions as opposed to four and most guards and such look clearer. But you'll definitely notice resemblence.

The game sounds pretty good for an 8 bit game. The music can get annoying at times but it clearly sets up the tone of the game (sneaking).

The game adopts the gameplay from the Playstation version. There is a sneak mode, alert mode and evasion mode.Sneak mode is simply that you just run from point to point without worrying about anything. As with the PSX version you have a radar in the corner of your screen. The radar isn't as detailed but it'll help you stay out of sight.Alert Mode happens if you're discovered by the enemy and so you must run away. Much like in the PSX version there's a countdown in the corner that covers the radar. When you successfully escape the enemy you go into Evasion Mode where you must hide and the enemy will stop chasing you and begin searching for you.Picture evasion mode like a game of hide and seek.

Metal Gear is known for its storytelling and MGS on the GBC is no exception. The game has several plot twist and such but that's just it.The game is full of TONS of twist. The story is great but the way the story is presented to the gamer is not to pleasing. The original playstation version had cinemas to make the storyline more interactive. The GBC has LONG LONG LONG cutscenes of Snake exchaning words with others. This wouldn't be so bad if the cutscenes weren't so long of just two people standing there. The Codec I didn't mind and it showcases more of just how well the graphics of the game are.But even codec conversations get long.If you're really into the story then you probably won't be falling asleep anytime soon.

As far as Extras go this game has a lot of them.Well, there is one HUGE extra. This would be the VR training. Many of the missions come from the PSX game "Metal Gear Solid VR: Missions" and the original MGS game but on the GBC they can be quite challenging. There are over 150 missions but most of them are repeats of earlier missions... only with a twist such as maybe a time limit or you're supposed to eliminate all the guards.Still, the VR missions will keep you busy for a while.

The other extra is after you complete the game once you get a new difficulty level (Very Hard mode).Difficulty levels in this game are NO joke.Unlike the PSX version there are more changes than just guards with wider range of vision. The most noticeable is there are MORE guards than you could possibly imagine on Very Hard mode.

Perhaps what I disliked most about MGS on the GBC was that it didn't have the power to make you love the characters. Many of them are stale without being able to see some emotion. That and some of the supporting characters play no real role in the game they're just there to take up space and carry on long conversations.

Overall though, for the GBC Metal Gear Solid is by far one of the best you could get.

The Good
+Excellent graphics
+Great Storytelling
+Great Gameplay
+Fun VR Missions

The Bad
+LONG LONG LONG Cutscenes
+Supporting characters lack developement and chemistry

5-0 out of 5 stars good game, hard to find
honestly, this was the only gameboy color gme to keep my interest. you could pretty much say it's the NES metal gear with the moves enabled in the playstation metal gear game, the name is the same but it's a completely different game from playstation version. i recommend the game if you can find it...was hard to get even when it was new.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding, I can't believe my eyes
With the blockbuster success of Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, Konami decided to make the game portable for Nintendo's 8-bit GameBoy Color, and while many specualtions over the quality of the game were not very good at all, every GBC owner on the planet was shocked when this was released. For being an 8-bit system, the graphics and sound are simply astounding, and the controls are exact and dead on.Stealth is still the name of the game and you'll have to dodge guards and security cameras to complete your mission, plus VR missions and cut scenes are here as well, making this game play so unbelieveably close to it's PS1 counterpart that many a gamer will be left in awe when they see it in action. The storyline is a prequel to the PS1 game that would set up the events that take place in that game, and while it may start out as a run of the mill story, it quickly picks up and by the time you finish the game you'll be catching your breathe. All in all, Metal Gear Solid is essential to action fans and GBC owners everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic for GBC
I must say this beforehand: this is a game that takes place BEFORE the Shadow Moses Incident (The conflict in the PSX version of MGS). That said, this is a different storyline than on that console.

In the game, you play as super-agent Solid Snake, who is kidnapped out of retirement to infiltrate a terrorist base in the (fictional) country of Gindra. The terrorists have a huge weapon called Metal Gear that has nuclear capability (Imagine a very fat person with guns for arms, make him a robot, then stretch him out so that he's 80 feet tall, and you've got an idea of what Metal Gear looks like). Snake's mission: to destroyMetal Gear and to rescue any hostages. The story after that is very engaging and interesting, especially when everything hits the fan at the end.

Unlike other action games, which play like a Schwartzenager movie, MGS forces you to keep yourself hidden from the enemy, and also to keep quiet so that the scumbags can't hear you. The level design keeps players on their toes and on the brink of insanity from the suspense of hiding from an aproaching guard, especially on the Hard and Very Hard difficulty levels.

For Game Boy Color, the graphics are superb, but the sound might grind on ears used to the advanced stuff on the GBA. Even so, the last few themes are catchy. The gameplay practically grabs you by the collar and demands that you play. It's that addictive. The fact that there's an unlockable "special" Stage Select mode that allows you to revisit previous stages with a mission other than reaching the goal makes you want to search for other goodies.

As usual, the guards are entertainingly near-sighted (But don't get close to them if they're facing you!) and stupid(Knock 'em out, and they just take a quick look around before going back to their patrol routes), and the bosses are fun to fight. The Metal Gear is a truly hard final boss, though there is an "extra" battle atthe end that is intense, if not hard.

Speaking of intensity: the second boss, Marionette Owl, describes his sister's death in morbid detail, and also uses the dead bodies of two women as puppets. Other just as disturbing cases happen with the bosses, so a parent might not want his/her child playing this unless he/she is twelve or older. Even so, it's a great game--a must-buy for action gamers everywhere.

P.S. Play this with headphones. I can barely hear the sound without them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Metal Gear, the best it can be with the technology at hand
Considering that this game came out after the tremendous PSX hit Metal Gear Solid, the Game Boy version isn't bad at all. As a matter of fact, its great! With a whole lot of VR Missions, a complex set of stages, stealth action, a complete arsenal of weapons, and so much more, this game is one of the best for Game Boy Color. Konami did a wonderful job in moving a PSX game, to Game Boy. This Metal Gear Solid though is not a recreation of the Playstation one. It has an entirely different story line, new characters, new bosses, basically new everything. To sum it all up, Metal Gear Solid for Game Boy Color is a wonderful game that ranks very high on the all time greatest Game Boy Color games. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta love the classics
Final Fantasy III has got to be one of the best RPG's made by SQUARE. Now I'm not going to tell you it's "exciting" or "vigorous" because that tells you what you can read from any game,(except Blasto) but rathing obsessive. Once you start playing this game it's very hard to put the controller down. This review may be brief but it's late and i'm tired. But there is still a bad side to the game; desiding whether Ragnorak should be a sword or an esper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!!!! A must-have for any MegaMan Fan!!!
When I saw MegaMan V in the used section at my local gaming store, I almost wet my pants. You almost NEVER see a game THAT rare in a used section of a game store, so i bought it as fast as I could. Anyway, lemme get to the point. MegaMan V is one of the best MegaMan games ever. The graphics and sound is great, controls are easy to learn, the story is cool, and better yet, the bosses aren't reruns! (MegaMan V features the Stardroids, mysterious robots from space). Now MegaMan's Mega-Buster is replaced by the powerful new Mega-Arm, an arm that fires and punches the enemy. The only drawback to MegaMan V is that it's kinda easy and isn't that long, but an awsome game none the less! Get it today!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best, and Rarest, for the Game Boy
Megaman V is, at the time of this writing, the last of the original series Megaman games to appear on the Game Boy.It's also one of the best in the whole series.

The plot revolves around the arrival of strange humanoid robots from outer space, called the Stardroids.Megaman attempts to take them down, but finds his weapons to be useless against their armor.Fortunately, Dr. Light creates a Mega Arm adaptor for Megaman that can penetrate the Stardroid armor.Megaman then goes off to defeat the eight Stardroids and their leader, Terra.

Part of what makes this game so fun is how it deviates from the original NES titles. They came up with eight entirely new bosses and levels for this one. Each Stardroid is named after a planet and is equipped with a weapon that Megaman receives after defeating them.

The graphics in this title are amazing for the Game Boy, their sharpness rivaling the best NES games. There is some slowdown when there are a lot of sprites at once, however.

The music is good and all of the tunes are new.The sound effects are the same as in previous Megaman Game Boy titles.

Gameplay is in the same side-scrolling action that's in the majority of Megaman games. You must guide Megaman through eight Stardroid levels that stretch in all directions and are loaded with robotic perils before going after their leader in a series of additional levels. The main difference between Megaman V and previous Game Boy Megaman titles is the fact that Megaman shoots his fist off at enemies (the Mega Arm). This is unlike the Mega Buster in the earlier games, which basically just produced a really large projectile.Although the fist automatically returns back, it makes for a brief delay wherein you cannot fire. You get used to it easily, though.

Overall, this game is worth finding for serious Megaman game collectors.Fans of side-scroller games will love it.And if you're expecting Dr. Wily to be the final boss, you might be surprised... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovin it
I love this game. if you ask me its the best game for GBC. i love it

Its sooooooooo awsome!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Son Of Super Mario Bros. 3 And Super Mario Land
WOW, I love this game.It is the best non-colorized portable Mario side-scroller I have ever played. This is one of the best game boy action games out there, along with donkey kong land 1-3, Metroid II, The Kirby games, and others. The rabbit ears kick but and I love the space zone.

Graphics-4/5, almost like black-and-white super mario world.

Play Control-5/5, Extremely Tight, and not too complex.

Game Design-4/5, It would be perfect, but it lacks an ice zone or a desert zone. It's a bit short compared to, oh say, Super Mario World, but it has high replay value.Hidden Levels too!

Satisfaction-6/5 Expert players may beat it in a week or two, but you want to play this forever!!!!!!!!!!

Sound-4/5- The Sound is almost as good as SMB3's, but the music isn't perfect, but for a game boy game, it's fairly solid.

the good- cool enemies, powers, levels. great replay value.

the bad- it's a tad short.

the ugly- The Three Little Pigs and Wario.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the first one.
Super Mario Land 2 is way better than its first one.In this "retro review" we're going to look at what made this one of the best GB games of its time (but too bad just a year later we'd get "The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening").

The graphics were a major step above the first one and were actually stunning visuals for the GB. They look ALMOST like a snazzy early SNES game.

Gameplay actually very closely resembles Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. You've got your power ups that unlike the first Super Mario Land can actually TELL you grabbed them. The Flower Power up and the Bunny Ears (only seen in this one) are nice. The Bunny Ears is like the leaf in SMB3. Except that Mario can't fly but they allow him to glide down to safety.

The music is great for its time and even now it isn't bad. It's been about 11 years since its release and the tunes still play out in my head at times.

The Map is used in this one as well.Except you can't go and challenge old bosses which kind of stinks.

The story follows that Mario has lost his castle to Wario (no saving Princess Daisy in this one) and he can only get back into his castel using the six golden coins so he must set out to find them in one of the six different "Zones."What's nice about this is that you aren't forced to take the zones in any specific order at all! What's not to like about that. However, if you get a game over you have to find all six coins again.

For those whinning about no saving on Super Mario Land you can finally stop your bitchin' because this game incorporates an auto-save feature. It works well but there are moments where the game will erase the data on its own.

Overall this is still a worthwhile game even so many years later.Grab this game if you can and see what happens!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's 2003 and this game still kicks...
A fine sequel to "Super Mario Land," this game, upon its release, boasted incredible graphics and superior sound.Even today, this game is terrific. The controls are innovative and fun, and there's one entire level in homage to the Balloon Trip mode of the old game "Balloon Fight."And let's not forget that this game introduced Nintendo's latest villain-franchise, Wario. The replay value is incredible, and the graphics look great colorized.I still play this game, and even my boyfriend borrowed it for a while for his SP.Again, this game isn't quite Metroid II or Link's Awakening, but it's right on up there.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best gameboy game

1-0 out of 5 stars this game stinks
this game has bad graphics. a cave man is probably more younger than this game. don't get it

4-0 out of 5 stars They should remake this next
After playing Metroid, Super MEtroid, MEtroid PRime, Fusion, and Zero I realized that the only one I had not played/beaten yet was the Gameboy version of Metroid, MEtroid 2.SO I went on one of my legendary hunts for this and low and behold I found it. A few hours Later I had beaten it and left me with some interesting thoughts.

The Story here is that Samus Arron has defeated Mother Brain and her space pirates on Planet Zebes, her next assignment is the exterminate the Metroids. So it is from here that the game begins. You must eliminate 37 or so Metroids scattered throughout the caverns of the Planet, but the metroids are not like the ones from before, as these particular breed have mutated to a more evolved state.

This game is interesting in that it is still classic Metroid fun, but with a few complaints. The First one is that the game is real short. The nesxt is when it comes to gathering powerups those too happen fast.Within a fifteen minute time span (all in one to two areas) I went from the Ice Beam to the Wave to Spazer to Plasma beam. That was in a fifteen minute slot. The final is that outside of the Final Boss, there are no other major bosses.Unlike the first in which you had to Face Ridley and Kraid first in order to proceed, this one just throws at you one of the four evolved forms of the metroids to deal with.

I am not saying that this is a bad game but if you have become hooked to say Fusion or Zero than this game is a step down for you (and if you only played Prime well avoid all together). However if you are a die hard collector or are interested in the full story than this game is a must have in the legacy.Just be warned it's short and sweet but with a hard edge (difficulty).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good game to add to your collection
Now this is a fun game. I tell you what. This is a fun game. I got mine off ebay (sorry amazon but the prices...) anywho the game is really cool. i think theres like 39 metroids you have to kill but the deal is yoru go though the disturbed planet fothe metroid sr388 and have to kill them all. and after you kill a certain amount theres this rumble and the lava in a big shaft room goes down to the next floor and this goes on for like 4 times. When you then get close to the "lordess" metroid -so fine- you have to fight i think 9 new metroids! which is a add on the prevoious 39 so technically theres 48 (49 if you include the queen) anyways then you anilate the lordess and for some reason on my game theres this weird red line on the wall but whatever it goes donw after teh battle and for some ohter reason theres a little excape hole under the lordess. so i guess you can wimp out and excape kinda ruins the point of a boss if you can jsut "escape"?! but oh well after you defeat IT. then a baby metroid hatches (jimminy crickets where do all these things come from!!!! fun never ends with metroid 2 ;) but then you escape the terrifing planet and go to your ship. THE END review DARN GOOD GAME

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing game
When Nintendo released Metroid in 1989 for the NES, they had no idea they had created what would go on to become a cult classic. The original game, while good, was plagued with game play flaws. Nintendo decided to try their hand at another Metroid adventure in 1991, this one of which would be for their Game Boy portable gaming system. Read on for my review of Metroid II - Return Of Samus.

PROS:
-Obviously, it's a portable Metroid adventure.
-For a Game Boy game, the graphics are VERY GOOD.

-The play control is very nice. It's easy to learn, and you'll ultimately grow to love the scheme. It's WAY BETTER than the old NES game.
-This, in my opinion, has THE BEST plot of ANY Metroid game. After defeating the Mother Brain on Planet Zebes, Samus journeys to the Metroid homeworld, SR388, so that she can wipe out the species to ensure no one ever uses them for evil purposes again.
-There are a number of new features that make their debut in this game - the Space Jump, Spring Ball, Spider Ball, and many more.
-The game features several different species of Metroids - The regular ones, Alphas, Gammas, Zetas, Omegas, and of course, the Queen Metroid.

CONS:
-You can't morph into a ball in midair.
-There's no map. Combine this with the fact that many areas look alike, and you'll be left dazed and confused! Here's a tip - try making your own maps on paper.
-Having to use the Select button to switch between missiles and normal arm cannon shots gets annoying.

-Obviously, there's not as much room to manuver on the screen as in later Metroid adventures.
-The graphics can't hold a candle to those found in the latest portable Metroid adventure for the Game Boy Advance.
-This was an early Game Boy game, so there are no Super Game Boy or Game Boy Color enhancements.
-Zeta Metroids are the devil.
-The game isn't very long.

OVERALL:
If you have a Game Boy, this game is a must-buy. It's long since out of production, but your local used video game store is bound to have a few copies for sale. You owe it to yourself to play this game - platformers don't get a whole lot better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Metroid Rules.
Now this was one of Gameboy Classics best game . The graphics Were actualy really detailed for the gameboy. The The play was really smooth. It was not too hard or too easy it was just right To make it loads of fun. I still find my self playing the game on my gba Once in a while.Only prob with this game . is i beat it in 1 hour and 15 minutes after 3 trys. the game is way too short. But well worth the money ... Amazon.com Review

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure takes you to theisland of GreatLog, where, playing as Tara--a member of a family of monsterfarmers--you complete a series of missions to keep the island from sinking. Taralooks for magical keys, explores a number of alternative worlds, performsreconnaissance for an impetuous king, and even joins the circus. But collectingand breeding monsters is the real meat of this game, and is the area with themost intricate and addictive gameplay.

Each monster has its own complex set of characteristics, and can be matched withany monster of the opposite gender to produce a new member of Tara's monstermenagerie (don't worry: the actual breeding takes place offscreen). The resultsof monster breeding can be surprising, and allow for nearly endlessexperimentation. Of course, your responsibilities don't end with breeding: youmust also take your monsters out on missions to give them experience and keepthem sharp. Let your monsters languish for too long on the farm and they'll getlazy and disobedient.

The monster breeding by itself wouldn't be much fun if it weren't for the game'simaginative settings and strong characters. Despite the Game Boy's modestgraphics and sound capabilities, the game evokes distinctive atmospheres andpersonalities through an inventive use of textures and dialogue boxes. Themultiple menus necessary for successful navigation of this world at first appeardauntingly complex, but the interface does a good job of leading you along untilyou get the hang of things.

Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure stresses creativity andconstructive behavior over conflict. While it's true that you can hardly takethree steps without your monsters getting into another fight, the violenceitself is not at all graphic, and outcomes rely as much on strategy andrelationships as on brute force. The world of the game is a gentle and whimsicalone where nothing too bad ever happens. Even if one of your monsters hasthe misfortune of getting killed, it follows you around in a cute little coffinuntil you can arrange for a resurrection.

The one disappointment with Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventureis not so much with the title itself as with its much-hyped interaction with itscompanion title, Dragon Warrior:Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey. Linking with another Game Boy Color runningeither the same cartridge or its companion title enables, among other things, monster swapping and multiplayer adventuring, but the layouts, plots, characters, and dialogue are virtually identical in Tara's Adventures andCobi's Journey. The addition of a few extra monster types and spellshardly justifies the expense of a second game cartridge.

But never mind. Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure providesmore than enough fun missions, engaging characters, and imaginative settings torate as a smashing success as a standalone. --David Stoesz

Pros:

  • Minimal violence
  • Battery save feature lets you bookmark your progress without using passwords
Cons:
  • Virtually identical to Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2, Cobi's Journey
  • Missions can lead to aimless wandering

This game is a pretty good one for those who are into the whole monsters collecting, training, and battling scenario. Highly recommended. Also, check out this title: Revelations:The Demon Slayer for the same reasons as of the above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two very different game for one price
Any game that involves collecting monsters is going to draw comparisons to the all-holy Pokemon. It's unavoidable. So let's dismiss the assumption that Enix's Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a Pokemon clone. It is not. If anything, it's a merging of Pokemon and Monster Rancher. If you want to collect every monster imaginable, you're gonna need to put some of your fave beasts out to stud and breed whole new species. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is actually two games in one. The first half of the game is a very classical Japanese RPG. The kingdom's in trouble and it's up to you, the unsuspecting hero, to save the day. The second half is all about finding new monsters, building them up, breeding them, and repeating the process to infinity with the hopes of finding every last species. There are two separate games you can buy, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey or Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure. Both titles are nearly identical. The same quest, the same results. But each title has unique monsters and magic keys. To reach all of the many lands of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, you'll have to breed monsters and swap keys with a buddy playing the other game. Cobi and Tara are friendly siblings whose family has just opened a monster ranch on the tiny island of GreatLog. Their peaceful lives are soon disrupted when the irresponsible Prince Kameha and his monster sidekick, Warubou, accidentally destroy the GreatLog's navel plug (yes, you read that right). As often happens when an island's navel plug is destroyed, GreatLog begins to sink. Warubou acts as a temporary plug, but it is up to you as either Cobi or Tara to journey to five different worlds in search of a replacement plug. From here the RPG is pretty standard. Travel around fighting random monsters and talking to various people in the town. All this leads you to a Boss encounter where you finally retrieve the potential plug replacement. You can only take three monsters with you on each journey, the rest are left at your father's ranch. Choose wisely. Enix has done a nice job balancing this game. Monsters become increasingly difficult to defeat as you progress through the game, but never so much that it gets frustrating. Random monster encounters are never so common that they become annoying. On average, you'll hit one encounter on each screen. Battles aren't yours to fight, but are left for your monsters. The wilder a monster is, the less likely they are to follow orders in combat. Give them love (and boatloads of food) and they will become more obedient. Each monster is capable of learning skills that are of great help come combat time. All of the bosses are tough, but none are impossible to beat. The bulk of the game comes after the RPG is finished. Once the credits roll, you're free to search for magic keys that will unlock a myriad of worlds to explore, monsters to nab, and items to find. Breeding is the key to finishing both the RPG and finding all of the available monsters. Each monster will be either male or female. Choose a mom and a dad who are both 10th level or above and take them to Professor Monster at the Starry Shrine. Now it's time to dim the lights, put on some soothing Barry White, and let nature take its course. Apparently, Enix isn't too hot on parental values because before your newborn can hatch, mom and dad split, never to be seen again. And I mean never. Left behind is their powerful and unique offspring. With the link cable you can hook up with friends and battle your monsters, swap keys and monsters, or even breed two monsters together. The monsters that come from breeding with your buddy's crew are some of the best you can get. Breeding new creatures, exploring the many new worlds of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, and dealing some smack-down to your friends adds a lot of depth to an already solid RPG. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 is a step up from the original thanks to more monsters and the need to link up with a friend in order to truly finish the game. The RPG takes anywhere from 8-12 hours, but it's the monster ranching that makes the game a winner. It would have been nice if Cobi and Tara had two separate RPG's, but like the Stones said, you can't always get what you want. If you like Monster Rancher, this is the game for you. No, it's not as good or as addictive as Pokemon, but it is a great game nonetheless.

This is a great game with many monsters and secrets and FUN! It is the better version of Pokemon.

4-0 out of 5 stars OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW
I'M JUST NEW TO THE DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTER SERIES. I BOUGHT THIS GAME BASED ON MANY REVIEWS THAT I READ WHICH I FELT WERE VERY DESCRIPTIVE AND INTERESTING. THE WEIRD THING IS, I GOT THIS GAME VERY CHEAP FROM (...). IT COST ME $10. IT WAS WORTH IT. THIS GAME IS GREAT. YES IT DOES HAVE THE SAME CONCEPT LIKE POKEMON, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT, THIS GAME IS MORE LENGHTIER, CHALLENGING (BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE), AND MORE QUESTS. IN POKEMON, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS TRAIN YOUR POKEMON, BEAT ALL 16 GYMS (DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RUBY AND SAPHIRE, BASING IT ON GOLD AND SILVER), BEAT A WEAK POKEMON LEAGUE, BEAT ASH, CAPTURE ALL THE POKEMON AND YOUR THE MASTER. IN DRAGONWARRIOR MONSTERS AND DRAGONWARRIOR, YOU NOT ONLY CAPTURE, BREED, AND TRAIN MONSTERS, YOU ALSO GET TO GO THROUGH MANY QUESTS AND ADVENTURES, INCLUDING HIDDENQUESTS TOO. I'M TELLING YOU PEOPLE. YA SHOULD BUY THIS GAME. GO TO (...). ITS VERY CHEAP THERE. ONLY WORTH $10. TRUST ME ITS WORTH. DON'T WAIT TILL ITS DISCONTINUED, BUY IT NOW!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!
This is a really great game!If you like the kind of game where you go around, collecting monsters, leveling up, and trying to save your world, then this is your game! The only downside is that the graphics aren't that great...but if you can look past that...then this game would be alot of fun! ... Read more

To make sure that the General Lee stays out of Cooter's shop, players should keep an eye on the collision meter. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great racing game
The Dukes of Hazzard is one of the best racing games I've played in a while, along with Grand Theft Auto and Driver. With the law chasing you throughout the game, it is a challenging and fun game, with beautiful graphics and fun music.Great buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK GAME
My friend had this game already and said it was the best game he had. So I went to Wal-Mart and bought it. In my mind this game is not that fun! Unless you like driv'n around making lots of noise, out running cops and playing levels that are similar to the one you just beat don't get this game. Oh yeah, and if you do decide to buy it what ever you do don't link up with anyone to race. It will erase all of your progress and you can't even race against each other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't get passed the bow shooting
This is one of the best games that I have ever played. The color is good and the graphics are awesome.Your are Bo and Luke Duke and the law is on your tail almost all the time.Thereare a lot of levels and I only got to the fifth one and you got to look for arrows and shoot stuff like barrels that you can't get passed. In some levels you can be Daisy or Uncle Jesse. You can race other people like Boss Hogg and Cooter. This is fun and awesome game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manic Racing/Adventure fun on the Gameboy!
What a surprise and a refreshing change...Dukes of Hazzardisfun, challenging, manic and amusing......it is all of that with the same driving buzz of 'driver'and 'Colin McRae' but with a beat em up-adventure race against time puzzle arcade cocktail of beautifully animated cars and colorful interacive isometric backgrounds....this game plays very well .......clever programming and effort which has been infused and then squeezed into this little cartridge to ensure such a convincing and fun experience.... ... Like Super Mario Brothers DX and several other recent Game BoyColor titles, Crystalis is an improved version of a game previouslyreleased long ago for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES version wasreleased three years after Nintendo introduced Link to the world in his veryfirst 8-bit Zelda adventure.

The story in Crystalis revolves around a young warrior who wascryogenically suspended before an earthly cataclysm that was scheduled to takeplace October 7, 1997. After the doomsday event, the earth is being rebuiltunder the threat of trouble erupting again. After 100 years in a cryogenicstate, the warrior is revived with the hope that he can stop the world frombeing destroyed for a second time. An evil menace named Draygonia is dead set ondestroying the world, and it's your job to help the warrior stop him.

The game offers plenty hack-and-slash combat. A very Zelda-like inventorysystem is extremely handy, and the game relies heavily on special items. WhileCrystalis doesn't come close to offering up the same level of gamingexperience as other games in this genre, it does offer an entertaining questnonetheless. In the end, anyone who's a fan of Nintendo's Zelda serieswill no doubt find this a nice adventure to romp through (at least until Linkreturns). --Todd Mowatt

  • Not as entertaining as others in its genre

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible rip off of Zelda
This game cand not be compaired to Zelda. Just can't, and you know why. Because this is nothing of the a third rate game with dum monsters and no skill once or ever. Play The first Zelda game. Its way more easy.

2-0 out of 5 stars they took the original one and butchered it
ok first of all i must say this is one of the best rpg's in NES but not so much in GB. since the GB color's screen was so small the game was edited so that the character would look bigger on screen taking away some visual radius, meaning you will be closer to the enemies before you can see them.
they also changed the story a little, in the first one the main character was a scientist who built a flying tower and was frozen before the end of the world due to nuclear war and mutants roamed the lands of the future were magic is also available. in the GB version he was one of the people who developed magic powers and went into hivernation, the tower's there too and so are the beasts but more magic less sciece. simply put an age of magic replaced an age of technololgy(vissionaries style).but that's not so important.
now the worst thing they did was to change the musical score completely and replace it with a horrible one, if you played the original game and remenber how cool the music was, playing while listening to the new music might be frustrating and even anoying. i don't recomend this version exept if you're too curios to see the differences but in my opinion its not worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great classic adventure game!!
This is one of the best adventure games I have ever played. I had it for my NES, and as soon as my firends saw it they got it. This is a classic adventure game that Zelda like game fans should not miss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic RPG action is revived
For those of you who played Crystalis for the NES know what to expect from this. Crystalis can be considered one of the first RPG's ever introduced, and its a great one at that. This game could be compared mainly to the Legend of Zelda, except this features leveling up and magic spells. There's more to this game than to the Legend of Zelda really. You can purchase armor upgrades, items, gather spells, achieve better swords, and of course, you must defend your world against the ultimate evil. Crystalis has great graphics, sound, control, and is overall a fantastic game. Its not the greatness that Zelda is, but its the next best thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring!
Paperboy is an extremely boring game.Nothing happens, there are only three levels and I would only buy this for 8 years or under kids. This is a good first time game for little kids.If you're a "hardcore" gamer this is NOT for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dullsville!
This is a game that is boring for a hardcore gamer. If you buy it buy it for small kids.

3-0 out of 5 stars An alternative to the normal blood and gores game.........
I would give this game a 3.First of all, it gets a little boring because it's repetative and all you really do is deliever papers to the customer. But I really liked this game because it is like the original Paperboy.Italso isn't bloody and gorey like many of the new video games. I wouldrecommed this game to people who have played Paperboy before becasue theyknow what to expect and won't be disapointed when it's not fast paced andaction filled.Paperboy is not for anyone under 8 because it might be alittle to hard and take to much concentration. They also might find itboring. So if you like the original Paperboy, this is the game for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSE!!!
I ogot this game when I was 5 and I INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.I played it all night though i was 7.I had to have it taken away from me stuffed under my parents matress and they locked themselves in the room at night so i couldnt get it.Now 7 years later i am almost 13 and i look at toys r us games and see gameboy and i remembered this game..I frantically searched the gameboy games and there it was Dragon Warrior Monsters and also
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 so now i am going to search the web to buy it...If youre a gameboy lover this game is a very, very huge must...

4-0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - Excellent game
Dragon Warrior Monsters (2000.) The first game in the Dragon Warrior Monsters series.

Over the years, the Dragon Warrior series has been one of the finest RPG series out there. Perhaps one of the greatest things about the series is the sheer variety of monsters that you get to fight against. At long last, we are given a way to control those ever-so-cool monsters! For this entry in the Dragon Warrior series, the series ventures into Pokemon-esque territory. Read on for my review of Dragon Warrior Monsters.

PROS:
-THERE ARE TONS OF MONSTERS, AND A TON OF DIVERSITY BETWEEN THEM ALL. The monsters in this game fall into many different species, and no two monsters are exactly alike. The total number of monsters in this game dwarfs that of the early Pokemon games.
-THE GAME FEATURES CHARACTERS/MONSTERS/ETC. DESIGNED BY AKIRA TORIYAMA, OF DRAGON BALL FAME. Akira Toriyama is a creative genius, and his creations in this game stand as solid proof of it.
-CATCHY MUSIC AND GRAPHICS. The music is diverse enough to always fit the mood of the location that you're currently exploring, and the graphics are cool enough to draw in older gamers, while at the same time, cute enough to draw in younger gamers.
-YOU CAN BREED MONSTERS. In this game, you can get a male and female monster together and have them give birth to a new monster altogether! This is one of the greatest features of the game, period.
-THE LAYOUTS OF THE MONSTER WORLDS ARE RANDOMLY GENERATED. This means that almost every time that you go into one of the monster worlds, you're going to be in for somewhat of a surprise. This will keep you coming back to the worlds rather frequently.
-MUCH MORE OF A "TRADITIONAL RPG" FEEL THAN OTHER MONSTER-ORIENTED GAMES. The best way to describe the overall atmosphere of this game would be "Dragon Warrior meets Pokemon", and that's a good thing. You've really got to play the game to appreciate it.
-LOTS OF HIDDEN STUFF. In addition to the standard levels that you can go to, there are many hidden ones that you can unlock, as well, by performing certain tasks.

CONS:
-WHEN YOU BREED MONSTERS, THE MONSTERS YOU USED TO CREATE THE EGG ARE GONE FOR GOOD. Admittingly, this isn't that big of a deal, but it's bound to frustrate younger, inexperienced players.
-THERE IS A HUGE BUG IN THE COMBAT SYSTEM. If you assign a monster to attack a rival monster that has already been defeated, that attack just goes to waste! I thought this bug had been worked out of all the RPGs of today. Apparently I was wrong.
-IF YOU DIE, YOU LOSE ALMOST ALL OF YOUR ITEMS. This can become frustrating when you've accumulated a good deal of recovery items, or found a lot of items in the Monster World that you wish to sell for a profit.
-THE COVER ART IS TERRIBLE! While the original Japanese version of the game featured awesome cover art by none other than Akira Toriyama himself, the American version of the game features a rather poor piece of three-dimensional artwork that looks more like it belongs in a candy bar commercial.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a damn good game, despite a few minor flaws. Is it a Pokemon rip-off? No. It's something more than that, and you've got to play it to appreciate it. The Dragon Warrior series usually features nothing but excellent games, and this is no exception. Got a Game Boy? Don't even think about passing this game by if you're an RPG fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars toooooooooooooo easy
Although this game is one of my favorite of all time(despite the horrible grapics outside of battle)it was just too easy. At least in dwm2 you had a hard time after completing the regular quest. After starry night in this game it was simply going through warpholes and beating bosses. I beat starry night, the master monster tamer, beat every warphole and got watabou all in under 25 hours. 5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate game in the history of history of the universe!!!
It is the ultimate game! The only bad part of it is that the game is not long enough to have more fun.It is a challenging yet fun game. The only game that I can think of that is better is Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 and Halo.It also holds some of the cooling looking guys in the world! While walking around, you look so cool with those guys following you around.I am like a DWM freak and have been playing the game for over six years now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfection! A True Gaming Experiance
I've played my fair share of video games, but this one stands out. There are a lot of good GB and GBA games: Pokemon, Metroid, Legend Of Zelda, Super Mario, Kirby, etc. When you look at RPGs for Game Boy, you think Pokemon, Golden Sun, but now look at Dragon Warrior Monsters. Don't Judge a book by it's cover. A lot of people who have a grudge against pokemon would think this is a copy game. WRONG! This game requires mind power and a lot of work. Try to get the strategy guide, it will really help make it a great experiance(it is now very expensive but it is worth it all the way; try looking on ebay). Play this game and I promise you, ya won't be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tetris (GB) original
I have by accident TWO copies of this original game, one I paid
for and other was later a gift.

This is a "never-ending" game which I have derived much pleasure
using. It never ceases to amaze me and I play it often.

I have other tetris games for other platforms, but I still come
back to this one game. I love it!!!!

The play is excellent and always offers even a seasoned player
multiple opportunities. I hate to admit it but I'm over 60! If you have it already keep it, if not then BUY one!

5-0 out of 5 stars The game that started the puzzle craze
Back when the Game Boy was first introduced, Nintendo had foughten a war to achieve the rights to this game from its Russian Developer. Eventually Nintendo succeeded and this game was the result. Either you love Tetris or you hate it. The game is simplistic in origin, allign a continuous series of falling blocks into horizontal rows. Once in rows, the blocks clear, give you points, and eventually the speed of the falling will increase. Like I said, simple but ingenious. This game is a staple of the video game industry. Also like I said, you either love this game, or you despise it. For those of you who enjoy puzzle games, or for those of you who are patient and like games that test reflexes and brain power, there is no better game than Tetris. If you're an action fan, you'd better look somewhere else fast.

5-0 out of 5 stars TETRIS
Was introduced to Tetris in 1992 by my daughter and grandson.I quickly became addicted, so much so that I raced out and bought Tetris 2, Tetris Blast and Tetris Attack. While I love all of them my very favorite is Tetris2.As a senior citizen who hates to make decisions I find that this game keeps my reflexes and mental processes sharp by forcing me to make quick decisions and it increases and strengthens the flexibility in my hands. I am never bored waiting in long lines, a doctor's office or on long trips. The only times I DON'T play are when I am driving or online.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's the best!
Tetris is the best! Once you start playing you just can't put your gameboy down. Me, who's 9, my brothers who are 19 and 20, my sister who is 23 and my mom who is 38 are all in love with tetris. My guess is that 7 year olds to adult will enjoy tetris. I can't think of one thing that I don't like about tetris. You just have to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tetris
Tetris is one of those games that you can get hooked on. This version for Game Boy is one of the best. The only con about this version though is you can't save your game. Besides that, it's great. ... Read more

Survival Kids is an unconventional puzzle game thathooked us from the moment we powered it up. You control a young survivorwho has been stranded on a deserted island after the sinking of a cruiseship. Armed only with your wits and a pocketknife, your challenge is tofind a way off the island.

Along the way you'll find several more items that will help you progressthrough the game's devious puzzles. Fortunately, items can be combinedto create complex objects that can be used in solving these challenges. In addition to the puzzles, your character must also keep a healthysupply of food and fresh water. You'll also want to stay rested if youaim to survive. Since this title plays on the Game Boy Color, it is nosurprise that the graphics are adequate without being too fancy. Thesound effects are also decent, but not overwhelmingly impressive.--T. Byrl Baker

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice.
My daughter really enjoyed this game. It kept her entertained for hours on end. We sold it, but she wants it back, again! Which proves that it may be played many times, before one is through with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Survival Kids
This is my favorite game out of all of the others I own. You play as either a boy or girl who gets stranded on a deserted island. You start off with only a pocket knife and you need to find food, water, shelter, etc in order to survive. With some objects you can create others, for example you can create a fishing pole to catch food. Anyway I love this game, I can play it for hours. I highly recommened, but it's a shame that they don't make it anymore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Confessions of an Obsessed Game-Owner
P>This is simply a classic-- you are stranded on a desert island and you must fight animals and collect an amalgam of foods (such as fruits and fish) and supplies (a kindling and working matches) to stay alive. In this game time passes, and the weather changes as well. This is important in the game; for example you can't light a fire and cook your food when it's raining. This game is not easy to beat-- there are eight possible endings and rumors of a "bonus game" when you uncover all eight.

This game is phenomenal. It's both fun and educational--good for most ages (10 and up). Kids will love it because of the concept and the challenge. You must monitor your fatigue, hunger, thirst, and health levels and replenish them when they get to an unsafe level. Parents will love it because it's very educational. It may teach you how to survive should you actually get stuck on a desert island.

Overall, this game is simply one of the best I've played in my short yet consequential life. It's a shame that this game isn't made anymore. You'll simply have to buy a used one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Its about time we had a game like this
Two words popped into my mind when I first started playing this game, Cast Away. Stranded on a deserted island, you must survive to find a way back to civilization. First of all, this concept for a game is very original. You don't see this often. The graphics are enhanced with nice cutscenes, the sound is standard, and the play control is simplistic. The game design itself makes this a 5 star game. Made by Konami, you would have to expect this to be good, and indeed it is. Not many games are as unique and interesting as this. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on this game, you will be in for a long enjoyable ride. Oh, by the way, this is a game you'll want to play several times through as there's over 5 different endings.

5-0 out of 5 stars 14 year old Gamer
This is the best game boy color game I have! I play it for hours strait!
You are ship wrecked on an island and you have a bag but the only thing usefull thing in it is a knife, which you use to cut tall grass to get places, kill animals to eat, etc. You must find fruit to eat, kill animals to eat for food, and find water to survive, you must also find a way to make fire. This is the best game ever! The fun never stops, and it is so much fun! I recomend you BUY it TODAY!
I dont have any complaints for this game! Anyone will love this game, boys and girls (in the game you can be a boy or a girl), all ages, my sister who is 17 almost 18 finds this game to be very fun, and my mom also likes to play it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Pokémon Trading Card Game is a Game Boy Color title basedon the popular strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. Fans of theexisting red, blue, and yellow versions of Pokémon will find this game tobe less redundant than earlier Game Boy Pocket Monster offerings. This game ismore of a hybrid of its predecessors--mixing strategy card gameplay androle-playing game elements--with highly successful results.

The story inPokémon Trading Card Game is basically the same as that of theoriginal Pokémon titles, only with new character and feature namessubstituted. Instead of Professor Oak, players meet Dr. Mason. Gym Leaders arenamed Club Masters, battles are duels, and so forth. Learning the card game is abreeze thanks to the inclusion of comprehensive instructions and an in-depthtutorial. Although some minor changes have been made, the method of play isvirtually identical to the original card game, and just as addictive. While muchshorter than the Pokémon games, the gameplay here doesn't involve randomand repetitive battles, and follows a less linear path.

AlthoughPokémon Trading Card Game would seem to turn a social experienceinto a solitary one, it allows for and encourages interacting with other gameowners. Duels can be fought between players via a game link cable, and cards anddecks can be traded using the infrared communications port. The most interesting(although somewhat dubious) feature here is the "card pop!" option, whichgenerates one new card for each player when communicating wirelessly; the catchis that you can't "card pop!" the same person again for a while after doing so,thus limiting the feature's appeal. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Easy-to-learn and highly addictive gameplay
  • Features cards exclusive to the Game Boy
  • Excellent game link and infrared communication port options
  • Package includes limited edition trading card
Cons:
  • Relatively short game compared to Pokémon Game Boy titles
  • Very limited appeal outside the Pokémaniac crowd

5-0 out of 5 stars A very fun game with a through-the-roof replay value!
Here is my review:
Replay value: 10/10
Difficulty: 7/10
Educational: 10/10

This...game...is...GREAT! Even with Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire out in stores, I still spend lots of time trying to complete my Pokemon Card collection on the Game Boy. The game is very fun and will quickly turn newbies to the Pokemon TCG into experts. I'm a 12-year-old girl and a dedicated Pokemon fan, and I must say...Let your Ruby/Sapphire Pokemon take a little rest so you can pick up a copy of this awesome game. (Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire is an awesome game too ^.^) The basic storyline of this game is that you are a boy with the default name of Mark, who wants to inherit the four Legendary Pokemon Cards (special GB versions of Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Dragonite). You can carry up to four (4) decks at a time, but you can save your valuable deck configurations in a Deck Save Machine. You must defeat the 8 Club Masters (as you do Gym Leaders) then defeat the four ultimate experts of the Pokemon TCG (as with the Elite Four). Although the only deck expansions included are Jungle, Fossil, and Base Set, this is all in all an excellent game. Wonder when the Ruby/Sapphire TCG version will come out for GBA?

3-0 out of 5 stars Great card game - but this isn't a very good port of it
In 1999, the success of Nintendo's Pokemon Trading Card Game was unrivaled. So, it seemed only natural that they release the card game in video game form. It would satisfy fans of the card game, and, of course, would give Nintendo extra cash. Read on for my views on this game.

The good:

It's the Pokemon Trading Card Game on Game Boy! Now you can play card games without a second person (although you can link up if you want, to trade or to battle.) And of course, being on Game Boy makes it portable. The game has a minor storyline (get eight medals and defeat the card champions so that you can get the legendary cards,) obviously added in to make the game more appealing. There are even cards that were made up exclusively for this game! And, of course, you can obtain booster packs by winning duels, so that you can build your dream deck.

The bad:

This game uses very little common sense. Here's a few "stupid questions" that will make you realize all the flaws this game has.

-When my opponent has no Basic Pokemon in his starting hand, why doesn't the game let me draw up to two cards? I'm allowed to in the REAL card game.

-Why does the game ask me to place Pokemon on the bench when I don't have any?

-Why do the starter decks have so many different types of Pokemon in them? This makes the decks so scattershot, that you'll rarely get the type of energy you need. Accordingly, don't plan on winning a lot of duels until you customize your deck.

-Why does this game only have cards from the Base Set, Jungle, and Fossil expansions? And why does the game divide them into four sets that the actual card game never did?

-Why does the game ask me to select a prize card when I only have one left? Wouldn't it be common sense which one I wanted to take if there was only one left?

-Why does the game do unneccessary coin flips? If an attack will knock out a Pokemon and it can also paralyze the Pokemon, there is NO REASON to do a coin flip if the attack is certain to knock out the enemy.

-Why is the text speed so slow in this game?

-How can Booster Packs be sent you you via the internet?

-Why is your character's name written in a different font than everything else in the game?

-Why can you only play as a male character?

-Why is "no" the default answer to most of the game's questions?

-Why is the music different on the subscreen than on the main screen?

-Why does the computer always seem to have so much luck, and you never do?

-Why are energy cards so hard to obtain in this game?

OVERALL:

Take my advice. Don't get this game unless you're a die-hard fan of the card game, or unless you're a Pokemon fan and you find it for a good price. You may be better off waiting to see if a sequel is released for the Game Boy Advance.

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty nice game
This is basically a video game adaption of the card game. You can go battle, trade, and do card pop, where you and a friend use GameBoyColors infared thing to link up and get random cards. You can only do this once with each person for a set time period.(I think it might be a day.)YOu eventually go through a bunch of card clubs, defeat club leaders for medals, and in the end face off against the "Grand Masters" for a chance to beat the game and get four legendary cards.

Their is a small group of cards which only come in the game.Little custom cards, you might say.You can know this by seeing a little GB on the card information screen.(The Legendary cards are Game boy custom.)

But if you're a "newbie" to pokemon, or mabey just realizing it's existance, it only sports the basic, jungle, and fossil expansions. This is actually pretty good, considering the time it was made.(When those three sets were the only ones "on the shelves" at the time.)And unlike the YuGiOh card game games, youcan't upload cards you have into the game. You must get them by obtaining boosters which you can get by beating club members, leaders, and opening the occasional email from the professor.(There's about twenty of them throughout the game.)

So overall, if you like the card game, get this for protable pokemon tcg action. If you don't like the cards, leave it alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good game. :-)
This is an exelent game for anyone who is a fan of the pokemon tcg or pokemon in general. There are a viriety of people you can duel with a viriety of difaculty levels. There isalso the chalenge of building a great deck and colecting all the cards. For maximum play, get a link cable and a friend to hook up with. You can duel, trade, and card pop!

5-0 out of 5 stars Whoever is Board
Have you ever been so board you will burst? Have you liked pokemon cards and games? Well now you aren`t board when it comes to when you buy I trading Cartridge. So you can defeat pokemon cards in a SNAP! All you have to do is play a Card Battle, Defeat Gyms, and win 8 medals! Plus win a Dragonite Card when you finish the game. Try to trade cards and stand up to the Mighty Dragonite Card!!!
You should get this great item!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars can i .....
can i order Lufia: The Legend Returns by sending chek
if ican please send me an email to tell me

5-0 out of 5 stars An unbelievable title
Lufia : The Legend Returns was one of the final games to hit the GBC, and the game is simply awesome! The new twisting storyline takes place 300 years after the 1st doom island war.
Once again, Natsume impresses the world with its unique battle system. The system looks complicating, but within the first 2 hours of gameplay you'll adapt to it.9, yes up to 9 people can fight along your side, and the IP (Item Points) and a new LP (Learning Point) system is introduced.IP are built as you take damage, and when used against monsters it is impressive!LP is used for learning Magic, as well as increasing your stamina.
The game's uniqueness is brought out again in the dungeons.Nope, there isn't a map. Each floor level changes as you pass them, and the trasures of each room are rehidden. While to some this can be annoying, it really isn't; it can be very helpful at times when you are in need of restocking your inventory.
Simply put, Lufia III outstands the world again, and beginners as well as experts are put to the ultimate test.My only advice is that you keep and refer to the instrucion manual; it'll be confusing at first ;)

--A little intro to the game--
The story begins when a cerulean haired fortune teller named Seena enters the small village of Patos.Seena meets Wain, a simply unintelligent yet strong teenager whom lives in the village. They become friends, and set off for the adventure of their lives!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a sweet game!
Awesome story! Fantastic characters! Beautiful music! Great monsters! Maniac bosses! So compelling you won't want to stop playing! And what a plot twist at the end! A MUST HAVE for RPG gamers!

5-0 out of 5 stars They're so CUTE!
I got this game entirely 'cuase I had gotten a Best Buy gift certificate for Christmas and was looking for a new Gameboy game since I had run out.To tell you the truth, the only reason I even glanced at it was because it had a neat cover...I ended up getting it just for the heck of it, a low and behold, it's the funniest RPG I've ever played!Sure, the graphics aren't all that special and the gameplay isn't anything new, but I just couldn't stop laughing! The main character is a total blockhead and everyone he meets calls him stupid. The expressions are so primitive it's adorable. There are around five seemingly final boses before the game actualy ends. Not to mention the drawings of the characters are sooooo cute!!(I love super deformed!) Anyways, it's a hilarious game, even if it wasn't realy suposed to be. ... Read more

This is a awsome game. Like no other. All the bust a moves are great. I'm always playing them. Just to let parents know, this game keeps kids busy for hours. Well, any way this is my all time favorite GameBoy game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bubble Blast
Bust-A-Move is the best game for your Game Boy. YOu need to play in the light or you can't see the different colored bubbles. You can play against your friend(s) or the computer. You can get secret players after you win a certain amount of wins in a row.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's More Addictive than Tetris
This game is a great buy! If you are a bust a move fan, you will love this and thank me for recommending it to you. There are four different ways you can play - you can play a puzzle game, against the computer, against a friend with GameBoy link, and you can take the bust a move challenge. The best part is, all of these variations are a blast to play. It's very addictive and never gets boring. The only complaint I have is that if you do not have a worm light, it can be difficult to distinguish the different colors of the bubbles, but after playing a couple of rounds you get used to it.I have taught many people how to play bust a move and every single person became an addict like me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bust a Move 4
I am still not sure what I think about bust a move in general, but my mom loves it.She claims this version is not as good as the super nintendo original, but it still has her hooked to my game boy (which is better thanbeing hooked to the TV all the time.) Irregardless, if you liked theother bust a move games this one will be enjoyed as well. ... Read more
