Editorial Review In puzzle mode, playerscontrol blocks as they descend from the top to the bottom of the screen. As they fall, you can spin blocks so that they land next tocorresponding colors at the bottom of the screen. Gameplay is just likethe original only with a few major twists. The bin that holds the piecesat the bottom of the screen starts out partially filled, while a littleprofessor character climbs on top of the stack. Your job is to clearlines of blocks so that the professor can reach the exit at the bottomof the bin before a spiked ceiling smacks him in the head. Two playerscan also duke it out in puzzle mode, sending cleared lines to theiropponent's bin. This isn't the best version of Tetris we've everplayed, but it does still manage to offer a lot of entertainment for itslow price. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Reviews (16)

Editorial Review The graphics in Abe's Oddyssee convey a unique personality, whichis often lacking in platform action games. Still, a few pretty gameenvironments will not distract you from the devious puzzles scatteredthroughout the game. Fortunately, you never run out of lives inOddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Instead, Abe rematerializes immediatelyafter you "die" and the game continues from the last checkpoint youreached. This approach encourages exploration, which you'll want to doanyway since this is one of the most beautiful 2-D games we've seen.--T. Byrl Baker Pros: Features Reviews (19)
The premise is deceptively simple--you must rescue 99 of your fellow Mudokons from becming canned ham. There are enough puzzles and traps to keep things hopping for a long time to come. I'd advise getting the strategy guide as well. It'll save you some grey hairs and bald spots. ... Read more | |

Editorial Review But there are limitations to this hip tool--namely memory space, which on the PlayStation is scant at best.Still, the disc itself contains over 1,500 pre-recorded musical riffs and over 3,000 instrument sounds for youto mix and match as you like. Once the basic music is laid down, players can tinker with the sounds, addingeffects such as reverb. In addition, the MTV Music Generator enables budding artists to samplemusic from their own audio CDs, but this is where the memory problem comes into play, limiting yoursamples to mere seconds. No prior knowledge of music theory or editing is required to play with this disc, and when using thepre-recorded music snippets, which are varied and numerous, the resulting songs can be quite amazing. While this piece of software may be better suited for a PC with a fat hard disk full of storage space,MTV Music Generator is a completely original title for the PlayStation, and it manages to cleverlyuse the system's capability to play music in a unique way. --Jeff Young Pros: Features Reviews (31)

Enjoy!
There is a wide selection of creatures to find in the game, with some being very unique in design. They also change in appearance as they go up levels.A creature can go change twice for a total of three different looks. This is very helpful as some of their early designs are pretty silly (one is an egg with legs). One bad thing about the game is that when you merge creatures, their appearance does not change.Bummer. The game does get a bit repetitive as most of the levels look identical and there is too many random battles. The side quests do add some value and the arena is a nice touch, but you soon grow tired of wandering around the same levels, fighting again and again. Overall, this is a fun game that could have been much better.I like the humor and I think the characters are entertaining. The dialogue is silly, but enjoyable.I just wish there was more put into level design and more control over your creatures. Now that the game has come down in price, I think it is a good purchase.
The detailed version: I bought the game. I started complaining. This is a rather sad sequel to what was a very good game. I think it's very revealing that this game was *only* released in the US, and *not* Japan, where the first was more popular. This game was designed to sell to young American kids who think Pokemon is fun, and it makes this very obvious. The game play is OK. In JC2, Divine Beast breading is more like an industry. Some elements of the original carry over, which is neat. The portrayal of Levant a thousand years after Mahbu died is very interresting. Ra, Mu, and Kikinak are also back. I also have to ashamedly admit, I like the sassy fairy. The graphics are quite good, and the music is good. The plot is almost non-existant. The first game delt with issues like "why does man suffer?" and the fall from grace of both Man and Spirits. The sequel deals with such thought-provoking issues as "Kahu likes girls, but they think he's a dweeb". Late in the game, there are a few points where the plot gets interresting, and there is some very good dialogue. Then, it's as if the writers thought, "Oh, no! Too much thought! We'll loose the interest of sponge-brained American children! New scene! New scene!" For light entertainment, this game is OK. If you think Pokemon is cool, you'll probably like this game. If you want something as good as the original, the total selling-out to the Pokemon mentality will sorely dissapoint you. I was waiting throughout the game for any of the characters to use the prase, "Gotta Catch 'em All!" (Thankfully, they didn't, but I would hear it in my head every time I'd play.)
Why?First of all, all of the features that made Jade Cocoon fun and interesting, such as catching monsters and breeding them and coming up with totally new monsters, breeding monsters to have a variety of available attacks within one elemental power, and upgrading armor and weapons of the player character as the game progresses are TOTALLY ABSENT FROM THIS GAME.Instead of catching monsters and then breeding the monsters you catch to come up with a wide variety of different results, you have certain "Divine Beasts" (not "minions" anymore) that you hatch from eggs, and then you go and defeat a limited number of certain kalma (evil divine beasts) to get cocoons that you then PAY a FEE to merge with the beasts that you hatched from the eggs. This does not seem to affect the look of the beast or what it turns into at all.Furthermore, a beast can only have one ability in any one elemental area at a time--it cannot have more than one different earth special attack, for example. Also--and this really bothers me--the battle system is totally different from the battle system in the original Jade Cocoon. You cannot select which enemies your beasts attack when you are fighting, if there are multiple enemies; and your beasts can only use the type of elemental attack that they are aligned with on your beast amulet. If a beast is currently on the fire side of the amulet, it can only do fire attacks--and it can only have ONE fire attack. As if having tremendously frustrating battles weren't enough, these battles are constant. You are constantly getting into stupid, very rarely avoidable little fights with the annoying little beasts that are roaming about everywhere. It is very repetetive, monotonous, and unsatisfying. Also, any battles that are supposed to be difficult are merely a matter of waiting until your enemy's MP is totally drained--then, even the bosses are ridiculously simple to beat. Finally, there are two other major problems with this game.1. The localization is not that great.Characters say things that sound unnatural. For example, they often say, "Yow" or "Yeow" to express surprise when a more natural translation would be "Yikes" or "Wow."(This happens a lot in translating from Japanese to English, with this particular word, as you will notice if you read any mangas.Don't ask me why.)2. There is practically no plot.It is a common problem in current RPG's to have too many cutscenes, but this game goes to the opposite extreme--there are practically none. What little plot there is is simply uninteresting. So, if you're looking for a good monster-breeding RPG, play the original Jade Cocoon.I regret to say that I would not recommend this game to anyone, especially fans of the original game. ... Amazon.com Review In the near future, the Net is connected to virtually everything--from computersto office water coolers. An evil group is bent on dominating the world bycorrupting the Net with viruses. You play as Lan, a young hacker, who must stopthis threat with the help of his virus-busting program (and best friend) MegaMan.exe. Lan can walk up to just about any object and either use it or get someinteresting (and often funny) information about it. In fact, this kind ofexploration is necessary, because there are Net jacks in the strangestplaces--even a doghouse. And while Mega Man.exe is deployed fighting viruses on the Net,you often have to go out and collect clues in the real world. This teamwork addssome refreshing complexity to the game. Fans of Pokémon will like the battle chip system. Finding chips andupgrading Mega Man.exe is the name of the game, enabling the program to unleashmore powerful attacks. Battle chips can be sold, traded, and combined intorarer, more powerful chips. In addition, you can link up with a friend and tradechips, or battle for them. The game's best element, however, is its battle system. Battles occur in realtime, with fast arcade action. Mega Man.exe can lob bombs, shoot his hallmarkcannon, summon other virus-busting programs to his aid, and more--depending onwhich of the 175 battle chips you find and deploy in battle. Mega Man: Battle Network is a solid performer, but its story is geared toa younger crowd. Still, there's plenty here to satisfy fans of the series.--Bryan Karsh Pros: Reviews (53)
Gameplay 10/10 Story 10/10 Bottom Line 10/10
I like RPG's but am good in all games. I define a good game by the right mixtures: Originality, Game Quality, Easy To Get Use to and Control, Action Type, Objective Settings, and so on. I'll make this clear and precise as possible. Please take note this is my OPINION, you might think different. Good Things: Bad Things: 1.Whenever you enter the net, you come across viruses or enemies, to make it simple. They are challenging at first, but in the later stages when you become powerful, they are just plain annoying, especially when you're trying to accomplish long, tedious missions given to you by the game. You must have an escape chip to actually escape! You can only hold 30 chips in your "moves" folder. So if you have, for example, 2, your chances of getting them and escaping battles you don't want is 2/30. You get 5 chips per turn that you skip and press ADD during your chip selection. Think about it. 2.The cost of items in this game is way too high, in my opinion. As a player in a RPG game, you would like to improve your weapons so you can defeat your enemies faster/easier right? Well, try to when it takes 10,000zens just to get one M Cannon, which does 120 damage. The common later viruses have like 200hp. The beginning bosses are about 600+. Therefore you need more than 1 powerful chip. How long would it take? Say forever? 3.Oh yeah, chip combos are made by putting same letter chips together. Example, two different chips with the letter L next to it, say Cannon Chip L and Dash Chip L. You can select it both at once and use it without the need to wait for the bar to fill up to select more chips. Its really hard to make the combos and play fast when you gotta check out the letters next to each chip to see if you can play it together. The letter range is long! 4.The missions are nice, IF YOU KNOW HOW TO GET IT! They seem to expect you to know exactly where to go. Well they don't Mr.Creator! Therefore, what you either do is get FAQS or wonder around, mindlessly and extremely frustrated, until you find where you need to go. Got Milk? 5.The only real fun is raising Megaman, upgrading him which is hell, and fighting the bosses and people with powerful P.E.Ts. Megaman is a PET. This is where it *beeped* up. Its usually rare or it takes a horribly ammount of time and work to finally encounter those few people. The rest of the game is filled with viruses that aren't challenging and you can't simply escape easily. Here's a clue for everyone. Why buy when you can get it for free? HAHAHA.

Editorial Review Causing mass mayhem and destruction is not your only purpose in this game. You mustalso rescue your fellow monsters in crime--George, Lizzie, and Ralph (which manydie-hard fans of the Rampage series will recognize from the original coin-op). Tosave your friends, you must first defeat the ever-approaching military and lawenforcement officials that aim to protect each city. Being bad has never felt so good.--Michael Byer Pros: Reviews (3)

Amazon.com Product Description The game allows you to play as any one member of the team: cover-girl assassins Hana Tsu-Vachel or Rain Qin, master operative Royce Glas, or greedy killer Jakob "Deke" Decourt. The game's variable ending changes with the disposition of certain in-game events, and other hidden features promise added replayability. Reviews (14)
Also, the cutscenes are very nicely done, with excellent voice acting and realistic animation. And the music is extremely cool, with oriental themes that add real atmosphere to some of the environments. My favorite part of the game is when you're on the 96th floor of a bio-engineering building, and you have to collect a large number of objects and use them to solve a grand puzzle - it's all laid out very logically and is super fun to play and figure out.You even get to drive a mech at a couple points in the game. Overall, it doesn't get much better than this!

The other aspect of the game that stands out is the audio.Much like Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, everything sounds right.Bullets ricocheting off metal sound different than when they hit wood (wood even splinters when hit).Even the ricochet effects change depending on how the shot was fired. As mentioned above, the Ghoul II engine allows for "tear zones" on enemies that come off when shot or stabbed, and there's nothing quite as disturbing as hearing the squirting sound of an enemy's jugular after you take their head off with a shotgun. In short, the audio and visuals of the game are definitely above par.Now for the bad... which is, unfortunately, just about everything else. The game is definitely centered around mindless shooting, although the game designers attempt to convince you otherwise (with "stealth missions").The game is basically one large slaughter-fest.Although this may kick up the adrenaline for the first hour or two of playtime, by the time you've been doing this for eight hours and still are only halfway through the game, it gets tedious, frustrating and boring. In addition throughout the game, and especially annoying during the "stealth missions," the enemies have increadibly good eyesight.Basically this means that if you can see them in any way, shape or form... they can see you, which will set off the alarm. In "non-stealth" levels, once the alarm's been activated in a level, it never goes off.In "stealth missions" if the alarm goes on, you lose the level. Additionally, one of the largest downfalls of the game is the linear design of the levels.Forget the beautiful, open-ended levels Deus Ex gave us (basically, here are your weapons, here are your skills, you figure out how to pass the level). In Soldier of Fortune II, your objective ALWAYS lies at the end of a long stretch of a large, linear landscape where all the doors (save one or two) are mysteriously and conveniently locked. If you play through the game a second time, it'll be just like the first since any potentially alternate route to reach the object is also conveniently blocked off, closed or otherwise inaccessible.Furthermore, the goals of many of the levels require similar guess work as the "pixel hunting" in old puzzle games did.For example, your objective might be to "enter the chemical building" or something to that effect. To get into the building you have to find the ONE correct door out of the 40 doors that line the street. This becomes frustrating after about ten minutes of no success.Speaking of chemicals, the plot of Soldier of Fortune II centers around thwarting the potential spread of a deadly virus... too bad that's been done too much already. Finally, the biggest problem I had with the game was the way you actually fired. It sounds obvious, but in a first-person shooter, emphasis should be placed on making the activity of simply shooting the gun relatively easy.Aiming shouldn't be a pain in the ...It may have been my set-up (although I checked my configuration many times to make sure it wasn?t my settings), but when I would move the mouse just the tiniest bit left or right, the crosshairs would jump 5 to 7 pixels in that given direction. That may not seem like much until you realize that unless the enemy is within arms reach, you're likely to actually "jump" over the enemy's head (or entire body depending on their distance from you).Add this to the fact that unless you shoot an enemy in the head or take off one of their limbs, it generally takes around five hits to take an enemy down (shoot them once in the thigh with a pistol and they often just "shake it off" like a bad Steven Seagal movie). This can be annoying since it means you?ll probably reload your save games a lot.I consider myself pretty good at first-person shooters, but this one had me reloading every couple minutes.Very frustrating. So although there's a lot of eye candy (i.e. "gore") and the audio's pretty good, make sure you play Soldier of Fortune II before you buy it.Just because it looks cool doesn't mean it won't end up being very frustrating.
