Amazon.com Review

The Alien and the Predator are two of filmdom's most beloved and fearedcreations, and fans have been clamoring for a matchup between the two speciesfor years. Their dreams were teased by a brief shot of an alien skull in thePredator's trophy room in Predator 2, indulged by several uneven pairingsin comic books, and finally fulfilled in Rebellion's underrated Aliens vs.Predator video game. Fox Interactive, teamed this time with developerMonolith, delights these fans again with Aliens vs. Predator 2, andthe result is easily one of the most intense 3-D shooters ever released.

Like in the first game, there are three distinct campaigns. One lets you play asthe Predator, another as an Alien, and a third as the overconfident humans theyprey upon. This time out the stories are much more detailed, even crossing overin interesting ways. The plot concerns some arrogant human scientists, a groupof heroic marines, a rogue Predator, and the faceless Alien horde found onLV-1201 (the planet from the first two Alien films).

As a human, you play a fearless roughneck sent to check things out and performmissions. This generally involves rescuing fellow marines, recon work, restoringpower to various systems, and trying to stay alive against fast-moving killingmachines with acid for blood and nasty dispositions. You're armed with theincredible pulse rifle from the films, other weapons such as a knife and a smartgun (which automatically locks onto targets for you), a tension-inducing motiontracker, and a shoulder-mounted flashlight that casts eerie shadows. ThePredator is armed with his shoulder cannon, cloaking device, spear, and hisfamous wrist claws.

The Alien campaign is the most interesting as it first casts you as thespiderlike face hugger. You've got to roam the corridors looking for a solitaryvictim. Once you implant a human, you play the small and snakelikechest-burster, seeking out rodents and other tiny prey so you can quickly molt andgrow into a full-fledged alien. Then all hell breaks loose as the humans becomeyour prey. You can claw, perform a head bite (which restores health), andexecute a fearsome pounce attack that literally explodes the target. Aliens canalso cling and climb on walls, which takes some getting used to, but the effectis exhilarating, as is the hunt.

The graphics are evocative of the films and feature strobe lights, flashing redsand whites, ample darkness, abandoned barricades, sputtering ruined equipment, and horrific scenes of carnage. The music rises and falls with the drama anddraws heavily from the Alien films in particular. And the game is relentlesslycreepy, whether or not you are the hunter or hunted. The audio is equallyeffective, from screaming humans to screeching alien attackers to the familiarPredator purring chuckle. The game is also filled with often amusingconversations between guards, marines, and scientists.

The three campaigns offer 21 missions, but the wide range of multiplayer gamemodes deserve special mention. The game has legs, no matter which species youprefer, and already a community has sprung up for challenges between gamers.Unfortunately, the Net code is a bit buggy: be sure to download the latestpatch.

Monolith has created a much better game than the previous installment, mainly bypumping up the atmosphere, refining the controls, and making sure the threestories combine into a greater tale of horror and survival. Oh, and mostimportantly to some, the game lets you save whenever you want. Just rememberthis when playing the game--on the Internet, no one can hear you scream, butyour neighbors can. --Bob Andrews

Pros:

  • Superb atmosphere that evokes the best of the movies
  • Excellent graphics and single-player gaming
Cons:
  • You need the marines to do a bug hunt in the multiplayer code

5-0 out of 5 stars Be Un-Warned:This game works greaton G5 iMacs!
I'm sure that many people have already read the reviews for this game that say that it works so terribly on this or that Mac.But I'm here, as a sort of public service announcement, to say that with the new Macs, those concerns no longer apply.I had a rougher time with AVP1 Gold running on my Mac than this game! All that aside, this is an incredible game, one of the best FPS games ever created, and very addictive.I beat all three campaigns on Normal, and now I'm trying to beat them all on Hard.Huge difference!
That also being said, I have to mention that the multiplayer STILL doesn't work.As a matter of fact, it freezes up the game if you ever try to go to the multiplayer screen. And this is even with that (very old) patch from Macplay.Which can ONLY be found on their website, by the way. It's not even in Fileplanet!Despite the impossibility of playing multiplayer, I still give this five out of five stars because the game is challenging, loads of fun, scary, and you can really get into your species' state of mind.I can't even tell you how many times I was yelling at the screen when I was the Aliens, saying something like 'BITE HIS HEAD OFF!!!'It's a lot of fun.So buy it!!!It's worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just like the movies!
Even reading all the bad reviews I bought this game. I held my breath when I popped it into my eMac. Things didn't start out good as the game wouldn't install to my brand new external drive. I installed in to the internal drive and started up the game.I chose to be a Predator and the hunt began. I was immediatly awed by how alike it was to the movies. All the preformance issures people had warned about weren't a factor. It ran smooth as anything. I then en-trusted the next 3 hours to getting through the Predator campaign. The game was a blast and I felt like I was in the movies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Windows Version is Great! Mac Version is terrible.
Ok... Both the Windows and the Mac version are the same game, one catch though. The Mac version was ported (converted) from the Windows version. The conversion is terrible. The Mac game is CHOPPY, SLOW, UNPLAYABLE on even the fastest computers. The Omni Group did slip-shoddy, piss poor job at porting this game to the Mac platform. Go get the Windows version of this game on Amazon or www.aliensvspredator2.com and play it on your friends PC.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review for Alaska Apple Users Group
If you're as big a fan of the Aliens and Predator films as I am, then the recently released port of Aliens versus Predator 2 (AvP2) for Mac OS X is for you! AvP2 is a top-notch first-person shooter from Sierra Studios, published by MacPlay, and touted as the "sequel to one of the most frightening games ever made."

AvP2 is a big game and spans two discs. The installer CD contains a lot of extras - demos (including its predecessor) and documentation to augment the thorough printed manual. The installer will ask you to switch discs once and then you're done. You must have CD 1 inserted to play the game and input the CD key from the box in order to access multiplayer games for the first time.

Opening the AvP2 folder now on your hard drive will reveal a stand-alone server in addition to the game. While I didn't test the server, it's a rarity for Mac games to include one in the box, so it's a welcome extra and a great way to host your own dedicated game.

As soon as you launch the game your desktop will swirl away like a vortex and a title screen will flood in. That first title is the Omni Group's credits and the app launching animation helps you realize that this game was ported by the same talented folks that brought Oni, Freedom Force, and more to Mac OS X.

After the Twentieth Century Fox intro you'll find yourself at the main menu. It offers options for customizing the game and controls, starting a single player or multiplayer game, and exiting. Selecting single player you are presented with three campaign options, which are identified by the three classic AvP species.

Before I move on though, let me explain how cool these menus are. They are actually real-time 3D animations. So if you pause on the main menu, you'll see a dropship swoop by and head for a planet and in the options menu you get to watch an Alien egg twitch and open. There are even character animations for each species - there can be no doubt which species you've selected when there is a Predator making menacing noises right in your face!

Once you've made a selection, you'll find a very detailed environment in which to romp. As long as you're not trying to push the resolution or texture qualities beyond your capabilities, game play will be smooth. Even if you've got an older machine, this game looks great at just 800x600 pixel resolution thanks to its advanced LithTech engine. But the good looks and frame rates are only the beginning.

For those not familiar with the franchise, the big players are the Aliens, Predators, and human marines. Just like it's predecessor, AvP2 has a separate campaign for each species that, though complete on their own, combine to form a single spanning plot of twenty-one missions.

The AvP games are not the only ones to do this, but unlike Warcraft III, for example, the campaigns are not linearly chronological. Instead they feature different tempos and span different time frames. Each intertwines and even intersects in several places. Though they can be played in any order, the stories are meant to build on each other in a certain order, so you'll get the most out of them if you start at the top and work your way down.

It's potentially a very involving form of story telling; and the story isn't bad. It's not on par with Marathon or Myst, but there is a solid plot with a lot of cut scenes and in-game dialog to flesh it out (that's part of why the game takes up a whopping 1.28GB on your hard drive). It also has some very colorful characters to play opposite each species as arch-nemeses. Strangely, while the Aliens and Predators are the antagonists in their respective films, they are the heroes in this game. Despite this apparent contradiction, neither is pulled too far out of character so playing them still feels right.

And boy is it fun to play out those characters! Clinging to the ceiling and dropping on shocked victims as the Alien, collecting trophy skulls as the Predator, and wielding the smart gun as the Marine are all equally fun in their own right. The different species have different tools and abilities at their disposal as well as different ways of seeing and navigating. You will unavoidably find a favorite species since the game play is so different for each.

The first game did a great job of putting the Aliens universe into a game, but just sort of tacked on the Predator. In this game, outdoor environments and trees that you can (and sometimes must) move in, bring a lot more of the Predator aesthetic to the game. The Aliens campaign has a little bit more to offer this time as well - participation in the Aliens full life cycle. That means you start the game as a face hugger seeking a host and even get to recreate one of the most shocking film moments ever by being reborn as a chest burster, ready to feed and grow. According to MacPlay's Mark Cottam, "you'll want to leave the lights on."

Indeed the game is chillingly enjoyable. It's complex enough to provide a lot of replay value too. You can change the difficulty, replay individual levels, or load saved games. You also get really great cross-platform multiplayer support via LAN or the internet. The relationship between the species also makes the multiplayer game types a little bit more interesting than your typical shooter. They include survivor, deathmatch, species team deathmatch, and hunt. This is just as much fun as it was in the first game, but this time the Predators and Aliens have different sub-classes just like the humans. So you can select a Predator with a particular weapons set that matches your style or an Alien that just looks cooler than the others.

All things said, this game has a lot to offer. As a sequel it shares the same structure, sounds, visuals, and general game play of the well-received original while enhancing many features. Though the graphics engine is improved, the biggest difference between the two is stylistic. The first one looked and felt just like the movie Aliens while the sequel acts a lot more like the recent Dark Horse comic books, which have exaggerated character stereotypes and deformed some of the more plausible and realistic intricacies of the series'.

While the story isn't cathartic, it is entertaining and strong enough to carry the games torrent of violence. It's akin to an action film that's worth seeing in the theatre for the effects as long as you don't expect too much from the acting.

If you have no interest in the Aliens or Predator films, you probably won't enjoy this any more than the other popular shooters out there. But if you're even a modest fan, this game is probably worth the expense. At the very least, it should hold you over until the movie is finally released.

1-0 out of 5 stars Umm.. Problem with the review below....
The reviewer below was talking about the PC version of the AVP2. The other reviewers who gave one star for the game are talking about the Mac version. The minimum video card requirement is 32MB for mac. You really need 512MB video card to make this game run smoothly. This is the worst ported game I've ever played. I'm running a dual G5 and it glitches, chops and crashes all the time. Its been over 8 months since Macplay and The Omni Group have known about the multiplayer problem with Mac OS 10.3 and they have done nothing about it. The people at The Omni Group and Macplay should be arrested for taking people's money for an incomplete, unplayable game. Seriously... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Hunter 2 Is AWESOME!!!!!!
I've been playing SH2 For a few months and I have to say It is really great. You can fight a custom mission and choose your submarine map and encounter (sub, convoy,or warship). You can also fight any one of the missions at any time or you can do a campaighn filled with challenging missions. You can choose from an array of submarines including The type 21, (my perssonal favorite)The true silent hunter. The controlls are easy to use (I would Know I'm Only 12) and gameplay is simple. Enjoy this pimped game

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Hunter 2
I found the game quite challenging. I have found numerious enhancments to increase the screen resolution, improved torpedo wakes, oil slicks, and better secondary explosions. I joined the Wolfpack league and there are a multitude of enhancements that out there to improve the game and game play. I find it quite a "sweating" experince. Nothing like being "pinged" by a DD or DE that is really out to get you.

There are also a multitude of add on single player missions, and multiplayer missions out there, and they keep the action level up. I also have modded the rain and storm problem with another add on all long with improved scenery. I am having a blast with the game. I bought it at the same time I got Destroyer Command, and I enjoy them both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Realistic, Sneaky-like, yet difficult
This is a great realistic submarine perspective. When you sit at your computer you feel like a true German sub commander.I always liked games where stealth is involved.I like patience too.If you have patience and if you like difficulty, you will most likely really like this game.I must admit, it is very difficult, and takes some time to finally understand the simple basics of this game.I had to read through the manual a number of times to get everything to where I understood. But when that is all worked out, you will have yourself a blast.I give it 4 stars, the difficulty involved to start out with is its only downfall.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unseaworthy
Ah...the WWII U-Boat; it instantly conjures up memories of classic movies such as Das Boot. Imagine the terror of a depth charge attack, the thrill of a successful torpedo attack, and the repugnant stench of forty-four sweating sailors stuck inside a steel cylinder no wider than a city bus...

Well there's none of that here. If Ultimation and Ubi Soft were aiming to create a highly realistic and enjoyable simulation of WWII submarine warfare, they missed. If they intended to create a poorly-coded, antiquated and historically inaccurate pile of unstable hacks, then congratulations. Without a doubt, this was one of the most disappointing games I have ever played, with glaring faults and bugs that should have easily caught by QA.

The graphics are mediocre at best, a fact made worse by SH2's maximum resolution of 800x600. Remember the famous storm scene in Das Boot? Well, in SH2, there are two types of weather: sunny and cloudy. There is no rain, no sleet, no spray in your face, nothing. To SH2's credit, the ship and aircraft models are nicely done, but the pyrotechnical effects are severely underwhelming. While the ship's control stations look decent, there is no control view room. Admitedly this is a quibbling point, but a control room would have made you feel as if you were inside a real U-boat, not just gazing at static displays.

Which wouldn't be so bad if those stations were actually USEFUL. Everything, navigation, rangefinding, attacking, it can all be done from the map view. This is rarely, if ever, any reason to visit the other stations. Particularly useless is the sound station, in which the game automatically marks down contacts, their bearing, and the type of vessel, so all you get to down is simply turn the dial and listen to the sounds of their engines. Speaking of sound, the game's audio is severely lacking. When I hit an oil tanker with a torpedo, I want it to sound as if I am bringing about the end of humanity itself, not a tinny, stock "boom" that I have heard in countless games before.

I have never captained a naval vessel in my life, but I am sure such a vocation includes concepts like "do not run into other ships" and "do not run into ground." Unfortunately, the AI of Silent Hunter 2 seems to have not taken notice of these basic martime rules. In one mission, I was tasked with sinking two British battlecruisers, so I quietly slid into their midst and unleased all my torpedoes against the lead battlecruiser. Shortly afterwards, the trailing battlecruisers gleefully rammed into the flaming hulk of the first battlecruiser, allowing me to pick it off with ease. The nearby destroyers would have been a threat to me had they NOT ALSO RAMMED EACH OTHER AND SUNK coming to attack me! Another time I avoided the H.M.S Ark Royal's destroyer escorts when they ran themselves aground on nearby islands. To add insult to injury, the beached vessels were sticking out of the ground at a 90 degree angle like giant lawn darts. While the AI can be monumentally stupid, it can also pinpoint your exact location 100 meters under the water WITHOUT THE AID OF SONAR and drop depth charges upon your hapless submarine with unerring accuracy.

With the possible exception of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, this has to be one of the most poorly coded simulations I have experienced. While I was successful in running the game under Windows XP, I could rarely complete a mission without a crash to desktop. Other bugs are numerous; sometimes I would lay one waypoint on the map, and the game would lay down 100 waypoints right on top of each other. The pitch of the engines would often remain unchanged, even when I increased speed to flank from a near crawl. It is impossible to play through SH2 without wondering if the developers flunked all their computer science classes. For example, for reasons beyond my explanation, Silent Hunter 2 and vehicle viewer are two seperate programs, so to keep the user from (heaven forbid!) seeing his desktop when switching between the programs, the game actually has a "SH2 Screen Blanker" to blank your screen! Such inexplicable programming practices points to a lack of experience on the developer's part.

Even if the game were eventually patched up, I still could not recommend this game. Don't let the current dearth of submarine simulations part you from your hard-earned money. Go play a real WWII submarine sim, like the original Silent Hunter or Aces of the Deep.

This Game Rocks! but they could add a few more levels. And very easy but the bosses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kewl Rayman game!!
Rayman 3 is cool, but I can't beat the Funky Boards of Clearleaf Forest! This game has some stupid things about it, but it is still very fun to play. One stupid thing is that Ly the Fairy from Rayman2 wasn't in Rayman3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it
It's a nice easy game to pick up and play for an hour or two (or five).Lots of fun.I really enjoyed Rayman 2, and this is a worthy successor. It's bright, cheery and very palyable.

I took off one point as I am having some problems with my game controller. Then again - it's pretty old and there are no XP dirvers for it.On the third hand ... this is the only game that seems to have issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars And you thought the other Rayman Games were good?
This one blows them all out of the water!!!With the stunning scenery, the awesome soundtrack, and the same lovable characters, Rayman 3 is sure to be loved be old rayman fans as well as the new ones. They have also added voices for all the characters, so Rayman 2's subtitles are no longer nessasary, and with a great voice cast that fit the characters so well you'll think they've been speaking through all 3 games! In other words this is one of the funniest games I've played in a long time.I highly recommend picking it up!

Rayman 3 - Hoodlums Havoc is the best game I ever played.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best CRPG ever
This game is simply brilliant. It is better than Fallout 1 in many ways. Firstly, it is less linear (if that is even possible)! Your actions during the game cause the endings to differ. You can do whatever you like in whatever order you please, and there is no longer a time limit (150 days). Yes, the game is a little harder than the first Fallout, but that is a good thing -- The first one was a little on the easy side. I cannot even put how good this game is into words. I 100% guarantee that you will love this game if you have even the slightest desire to play a post-apoc turn-based RPG. It is simply the best one in existence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fallout 2
By the time the Fallout games were released for the Mac, they were both dated in terms of graphics and overall game technology. What ISN'T dated about these games is the interesting storyline, the humor, the characters, and the world of Fallout itself, which is unique.

Fallout 2 does not improve on graphics, and it is essentially the same game as its predecessor. However, Fallout 2 expands on the first: it increases the amount of items a player comes across in the game, streamlines the controls a bit, and expands the world itself several times over making it absolutely huge in comparison. For instance, the amount you can barter with is no longer 3 digits but 4, making transfer of funds a lot quicker. Also, pilfering lockers and scavenging goods from bodies is made quicker with the addition of the "Take All" button. And NPC's are much easier to control with the ability to outfit them with specific wepons, set parameters for how they behave in battle (like, to not use burst), and you can tell them to stay behind in a place til you get back.

Some people find Fallout 2 more difficult than the first but I think that's relative. The beginning is more difficult than any part of either of the Fallout games, but once you start building up money and experience, by the time you get halfway into the game, fights are pretty easy for the most part. And I am not much of a gamer - the Fallout games are two of the only games I own for the Mac other than the Myst games.

There are a lot of new things in the game that make it more interesting than the first as well - I don't want to spoil anything, but I think fans of Fallout 1 will enjoy these additions quite a lot. Personally, going back to the first game left me longing for the additions in the second - not to mention the improvements on menus, etc - and I missed the expanded variety of items and weapons, and the increased difference on personal interactions depending on which gender your character is.

No matter how old they become, the Fallout games are solid and unique RPG's. If you've never played either, I reccomend getting the first due to it being a little less daunting to begin and because it provides the back story to the second. And if you liked the first, you'll love the second.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Difficult, Too Linear
I loved Fallout. Once armed and with even leather armor you could strike out in any direction in search of adventure. There was a storyline, but it was still possible to get a job or gamble your way through for a good while, building up experience in the process. Fallout 2, on the other hand, is very difficult. Creatures are so tough at first that survival becomes a challenge unto itself. Guns or body armor would be helpful, but there are none to be found. The storyline, and character survival, are so intertwined that striking off in any direction, alone, is certain death. Experience points come very, very slowly. Crippling injuries are common. Because it's part of the Fallout genre I give it 2 stars, but it really deserves only one star.

2-0 out of 5 stars There are similar games for the Mac that are much better.
Its graphics and sound are lackluster. Its manual is overly long and poorly written. The gameplay is far from fun or enjoyable. I would have to guess that those who really liked this game have not played other truly good games on the Macintosh. There are plenty of other similar games for the Mac that are much better than this one. I got it on sale for only $4, yet consider it a regrettable waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest game yet written...
Probably the finest game yet written: unparalleled in breadth, depth, humour and intelligence.Fresh (and surprising) every time you play."Slight pixellation" hard to notice when you've been playing the game for 48 hours straight: it's a text adventure with a front end anyway.Beg, borrow, steal.Shame fallout tactics is so much less fun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars awesome!!!!!
I bought this game about 2 weeks ago and I love it. It is awesome! I use along with it a logitech game controller. If you are looking for a fun racing game buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars This is one botched game, what happened in network play
I wanted to post this just as an FYI for anybody who fell in love with the original hot pursuit. This game's hot pursuit mode is totally heinous.EA really botched it.You can't be the police and chase down bad guys with your buddies over the network. We bought a bunch of copies found this out and sold a bunch of copies totally lame.So just a heads up

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but maybe not perfect
I've had NFS III hot pursuit for years, so when I saw the newer version come out I decided to try it.Well... I definitely think it could have been better. The graphics are wonderfully detailed, and I love the 3D effects much better than those of the previous version. However, sometimes they are too much for my computer to handle, and everything gets so jerky it is hard to see what I'm doing. When that happens, the graphics tend to lose their effect.

I've found the system of earning the option to race more tracks to be pretty annoying.Even if I win everytime, it still takes a lot of races around the same old tracks to unlock something new, and that can get pretty discouraging. Also, there is not nearly as much control over car tuning as I would have liked. They all tend to handle about the same, so I really begin to miss the customization features of NFS III.

There are some definite high points, though. The graphics, when they work, are incredible. The music is also really nice - it fits the racing mood perfectly, and has plenty of variety. The cars are fairly highly detailed, and the hot pursuit mode works out pretty well (if not a little too easily for the racer on the run).Overall I would recommend this game, but definitely make sure your computer can easily handle the graphics and make it worth your while.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game
Recently I downloaded the demo of Hot Pursuit 2, and it persuaded me to go out and buy the game (should be coming soon :)) Anyways, I've played this at a friend's house and have found it excellent. I love the "Be The Cop" mode as well as the cars provided in the game. I find that this game (even the demo, in my case) has high replayability. The graphics for this game are nice, and it runs well on my computer (Intel 4 3.0 Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, and some sort of good video card :P) But as people have said before, all the tracks are practically identical. You might want to consider that before you buy it, but otherwise, it'll be worth your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars underground is beneath this game
i stupidly sold this game to buy nfs underground.2 months later i sold under ground a bought this again. this game has great cars for any car finatics out there and the play, while not always realistic provided a lot of fun.it has the lotus elise, opel speedster, bmw m5 , bmw z8 ,dodge viper, ferrarri 360 spyder, 550 merronello , f50, and the mcclairen f1 just to name a few. everyone talks about dodging the cops but chasing speeders was even more fun. you can drop explosives, call for back up, and set up spike strips.this game is so much more than underground, which has crappy cars , poor performence, and horrid corses. please buy this and save a hell of a lot of cash ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Muliplayer game
I found the single player to be rather lacking and unoriginal, but SoFII still offers a fun multiplayer experiance, I even got my Dad playing!A good game, but more one to go play at a friend's than buy yourself...

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best!
Soldier Of Fortune II has to be one of the best online FPS's for the Mac!There are a lot of weapons to choose from, lots of maps, many different gameplay options, and numerous voting options. The replay value is incredible...I had this game since day one and I'm still playing! The only bad thing about SOFII is that its very demanding.Make sure you have the hardware before you buy it.I reccomend 1GHZ proccessor or higher for good performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent FPS for OS X
The other reviews here give a good idea of what the game consists of, so I won't re-run that information. It's your basic first-person-shooter with lots of action, lots of firepower, lots of body count; and as some other reviewers have noted, lots of gore. If you like fps's, you'll probably enjoy this one. There's nothing too new about it. It's the same old you-against-tons-of-bad-guys thing. The comment I wanted to make is that I have switched to a pure OS X Jaguar environment with no 'classic' MacOS running. This game works perfectly in my new environment with one caveat: you have to manually change one setting in the video controls or you will have intermittent crashes. The change is extremely easy to make. Just go to www.macplay.com tech support section and it's well explained. Once you've done that fix, you're in for hours of spewing hot death.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Fortunate
I'll start this review by addressing the point that is near the top of almost every gamers list: graphics.IF you can run the game, then the graphics are well done and deserve applause.Running off the Quake III engine, the textures are nice and crisp, special effects such as explosions are convincing and thanks to a system called "Ghoul II," enemy body parts can be blown off realistically (more on that later). But players with even a GeForce 2 and a fast PC will still experience some severe audio clipping and horrible frame rates at some parts of the game, even while running those areas at low resolution! To get the best visuals, this is a game that requires the latest hardware.

The other aspect of the game that stands out is the audio.Much like Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, everything sounds right.Bullets ricocheting off metal sound different than when they hit wood (wood even splinters when hit).Even the ricochet effects change depending on how the shot was fired. As mentioned above, the Ghoul II engine allows for "tear zones" on enemies that come off when shot or stabbed, and there's nothing quite as disturbing as hearing the squirting sound of an enemy's jugular after you take their head off with a shotgun.

In short, the audio and visuals of the game are definitely above par.Now for the bad... which is, unfortunately, just about everything else. The game is definitely centered around mindless shooting, although the game designers attempt to convince you otherwise (with "stealth missions").The game is basically one large slaughter-fest.Although this may kick up the adrenaline for the first hour or two of playtime, by the time you've been doing this for eight hours and still are only halfway through the game, it gets tedious, frustrating and boring. In addition throughout the game, and especially annoying during the "stealth missions," the enemies have increadibly good eyesight.Basically this means that if you can see them in any way, shape or form... they can see you, which will set off the alarm. In "non-stealth" levels, once the alarm's been activated in a level, it never goes off.In "stealth missions" if the alarm goes on, you lose the level.

Additionally, one of the largest downfalls of the game is the linear design of the levels.Forget the beautiful, open-ended levels Deus Ex gave us (basically, here are your weapons, here are your skills, you figure out how to pass the level). In Soldier of Fortune II, your objective ALWAYS lies at the end of a long stretch of a large, linear landscape where all the doors (save one or two) are mysteriously and conveniently locked. If you play through the game a second time, it'll be just like the first since any potentially alternate route to reach the object is also conveniently blocked off, closed or otherwise inaccessible.Furthermore, the goals of many of the levels require similar guess work as the "pixel hunting" in old puzzle games did.For example, your objective might be to "enter the chemical building" or something to that effect. To get into the building you have to find the ONE correct door out of the 40 doors that line the street. This becomes frustrating after about ten minutes of no success.Speaking of chemicals, the plot of Soldier of Fortune II centers around thwarting the potential spread of a deadly virus... too bad that's been done too much already.

Finally, the biggest problem I had with the game was the way you actually fired. It sounds obvious, but in a first-person shooter, emphasis should be placed on making the activity of simply shooting the gun relatively easy.Aiming shouldn't be a pain in the ...It may have been my set-up (although I checked my configuration many times to make sure it wasn?t my settings), but when I would move the mouse just the tiniest bit left or right, the crosshairs would jump 5 to 7 pixels in that given direction. That may not seem like much until you realize that unless the enemy is within arms reach, you're likely to actually "jump" over the enemy's head (or entire body depending on their distance from you).Add this to the fact that unless you shoot an enemy in the head or take off one of their limbs, it generally takes around five hits to take an enemy down (shoot them once in the thigh with a pistol and they often just "shake it off" like a bad Steven Seagal movie). This can be annoying since it means you?ll probably reload your save games a lot.I consider myself pretty good at first-person shooters, but this one had me reloading every couple minutes.Very frustrating.

So although there's a lot of eye candy (i.e. "gore") and the audio's pretty good, make sure you play Soldier of Fortune II before you buy it.Just because it looks cool doesn't mean it won't end up being very frustrating.

5-0 out of 5 stars OSX in the house
Honestly the PC guy who says macs aren't for games is living in the old days.Allot of FPS run a little slower on the mac because they were optimized for the pc and then ported to the mac.SOF2 runs well in multiplayer, in single player it can get choppy with the Geforce 4mx.I'm sure it would be fine with a Geforce Ti though. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent and realistic military shooter/sim
"Conflict: Desert Storm 2",just like the original "Conflict: Desert Storm",is a very well done military simulation for practicing basic combat infantry tactics, while still keeping the game really fun on a shooter-type of level. In other words, this is not a mind-numbing run-and-gun game -- you must think how you and your squad should assault or defend various positions; or the enemy will kill you and all of your men. There are not many games out there with this winning combination of realism, excitement, enjoyment, and playability: This is one of the few that successfully combines all of these elements.

4-0 out of 5 stars ummmm....... this is a cool game that i havent played yet
i think this game lookes cool i have the 1st 1 and i really like it the best part was the cussing and swearing i hope they put more in the second 1 mwuhahahahahahaha!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars good game... but no online?
Graphics are little behind "good" for a 2003 game. But other than that, awesome gameplay. The thing I hate most is that there is no online play. I always play my brother over the LAN and now we can't do it. I can't give you another alternative game because I don't know one. If you play games for the campaign, then this game is for you. If you're an onliner, then get another game. The campaign is still fun though.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
this game is great the graphics are awsome and the challenges are tough but fun.i would recomend this game for anyone

4-0 out of 5 stars What I Expected
The game is very much the same as the original game, with a few more details and enhanced graphics. The controls are the same, the game layout is the same, and the fun is the same.

I enjoy the game and like the layout of the missions as well as the squad command features. I like games were the missions are difficult without the controls being the challenge.

There is a lot of enemy soldiers to kill, tanks to destroy, and C-4 charges to set. Not recommended for children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What an "AWESOME" PC game!!
Love it!!It's from Masque and I knew I'd love it.I look at it this way...why should I go to a casino and lose money, when I could just stay home and play the same slot games (as in a casino) in my livingroom?I lose no money, but get the thrill of playing a replica of a "real casoino" slot machine .Every game one this CD-ROM is at the casino.Same look, same reels and same payouts. The only difference is the sound. And that's great too!
I really think Masque Publishing has a great product and I hope they can continue to produce awesome PC slot games.I am a loyal customer to them and avid IGT and Bally game player, both PC game and at the real casino.

5-0 out of 5 stars As close to you can get to the casino
I love these games!! It's as close to the casino that you can get without driving! I especially love the Betty Boop slots. This Cd includes:
Several Betty Boop regular and as well as progressive slots
Diamonds and Devils
Blazing 7's
Black and White
99 Bottles of Beer
Platypus Game
Boxcar Bonus
Hot Hot Hot

and many many more. Max out your bet and never worry about losing money for real!

Options include .05, .25, $1, and $5 slots as well as payout options and ability to reset your bankroll at any time. I can't say enough good things about this software!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Fun!!!
This is a companion to Slots By Bally, and it is almost as fun as the original, Slots by Bally has plenty of regular slots but also have 20 plus Video Slots with Bonus Payouts which are extremely fun. On Slots 2 we have 6 Video Slots with Bonus Payouts and they are 99 Bottles of Beer, Boxcar Bonus, Hot Hot Hot, Money Poppers, Play the Market and The Platypus Game; All are very fun and I find I play these the most. One negative is you can play them only in 5 cents, Quarter and One Dollar modes and not five buck mode like on Slots By Bally (I like betting $225 a hand when its not realLOL). But the graphics are great and there machines are very fun. This Disk Slots 2 has a lot of slots you will find in casinos like, All American, Ball of Fire, Betty BoopTM All American Girl, Betty Boop'sTM Big Hit, Betty Boop'sTM Double Jackpot, Betty Boop'sTM Re-Spin Roundup, Black and White 5 Times Pay, Black and White Double Jackpot, Black Velvet, Blazing 7s, Blazing 7s - $5, Blazing 7s - 3 Coin, Blazing 7s Reel Gems, Bonus Blazing 7s, Bonus Times, Born to BoopTM and many others. If you into slots this is a great game, overall I prefer Slots By Bally better; but I like this one (Bally 2) as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great gaming software
Wow we had played their previous version and had thought that was fun, but this sure topped their old version. New games, more video slots with those terrific bonus rounds. If you like casino gaming you'll love this software. It will bring hours of entertainment to you and your family. Their latest release(Slots From Bally Gaming) is also a five star hit. They all have realistic graphics and are easily installed on windows 2000 and windows 98.

5-0 out of 5 stars best ever slot game
I was sceptical of buying this game, after having bought several other slot machine games from other company's which had turned out to be boring.First day I received this I immediately started to play it. I was amazed at the enjoyment that I, as well as a friend, got from this.I love the bonus screen games. Its just like the ones you find at the casino. Its fantastic having several different ways that you can win to keep the game interesting.I suggest that anyone that likes the slots will love having this game.I'm hooked on this,I will be playing this all the time,if my friend doesn't get to it first. To bad I didn't have two computers in the home. My friend loves the 99 bottles of beer, where as I like the party poopers one. Hope another one comes out. Thanks again ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doom1 still better
Bottom line if your gonna buy this buy the first one first to see if you like the dooms this is not the one to start off with!

4-0 out of 5 stars Doom 2... worth a look, but not a stare
My older brother and I have been playing the original "The Ultimate Doom" since we were toddlers. We've played through all the levels and we are truely die-hard fans.

However...

With our recent purchase of Doom II (yes I know, we're running a little behind the times) we were rather disappointed. Here's our thoughts...

The game is very well made, like the original. The graphics are decent, the sound effects are brilliant, the music is entertaining, and the gameplay is phenomenal. In addition, the game is WAY harder. It features a whole new arsenal of baddies (which are pretty funny because their graphics are much better than those of the original enemies so they stand out like sore thumbs). The new enemies are very creative. We particularly liked the big brown floating thing-a-ma-jigs that spit out the little flying skulls from the original game.All-in-all, those parts of the game are great.

The trouble resides in the "super-shotgun."The original shotgun was the staple weapon of the first Doom series, and likewise this new super-shotgun is the staple of the second. As a souped up, all encomposing, weapon of mass destruction, you'd think it would be pretty darn cool.

The problem is that it's been souped up in the wrong way.It fires a spread shot that no longer requires any accuracy at all.To compensate for this new kill-all gun, the folks at ID just made the monsters MUCH MUCH MUCH more difficult. However, all the style and the delicacy of the original is missing.Too much of the time, your being shot at by wickedly powerful attacks and you cannot even determine from where they came. You end up hiding and sneaking around corners and the like... and that's the exact reason why I used to play the original doom instead of the new breed of games like Quake. These new games are just not fun anymore.

PS:play Marathon 2... it was always better anyway ;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars doom 2still thebest
i have played it befor it is a good game

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best FPS ever!
Well, let me tell you. I've had Doom II since it came out. And, it is by far the best shooter I ever played!

Story - 7/10

It goes like this: You just returned from the moon which was infested with monsters, and you come back, and what do you know? There are demons everywhere! They came strait from the depths of Hell. They killed almost the entire human race. Now, it's up to you to save the Earth!

Graphics - 8/10

Meh, it came out in what, few years back? What did you expect? But, I guess they were ok back then. Hey, I'm not complaining. So, the graphics aren't too shabby when it comes to the blood and gore! :-)

Sound/Music - 10/10

The music is pretty catchy! I love the music. The sound is very good also. It's really not that bad. And, when you fire your gun, or the monsters see you, the will make noises! And it makes this squishy sound when you hit a monster with a rocket up close!

Controls - 10/10

The controls rock! The moving and shooting are so easy to use! Don't even have to aim, just point in the direction and BOOM! The moving is good. Just move with the arrows. Also, you can run when you hold shift + up/down arrow.

Gameplay - 10/10

Man, the gameplay is just unbelievable! This game has 32 all-new levels! Also, with 7 weapons and a NEW WEAPON!!!! The super-shotgun. And you have new demons too. The guns are: the pistol, the shotgun, the super-shotgun (the new weapon), the chaingun, the rocket launcher, the plasma rifle, and the all mighty BFG 9000! Which when you fire it at an enemy and hits them, it will hit nearby enemies to! Well, the object of this game is to blast monsters through out the level and find the exit. Then, you progress to the next level. All the way till the last one. There are also 2 secret levels. There are many verities of monsters BTW. Oh, and each level has three hidden key cards to access doors that were previously locked.

Replayability - 10+ /10

This game has so much replay value. I mean when you beat the game once you think your done right? Wrong! There's so much fun in blowing up those little suckers! I have had this game for a long time and I still play it!

Difficulty- 8/10

There's 5 different kinds of difficulty: I'm too young to die! (Easy), Hey, not to rough (Medium), Hurt me plenty (Hard), Ultra-Violence (very hard), and Nightmare (unfair).

Extras - 9/10

You can also make your own levels using a WAD creator. A WAD's are the level files. You can also play WAD's that other people made. I love makeing my own levels. It adds more fun to game if you beat the default 32 levels alot.

Rent or Buy

Definitely buy! It's so good of a game! And besides, I don't think you can rent PC games. Well, maybe you can I don't know.

Overall - 10/10

I give this game a 10/10 because it's the best game in the world! Trust me on this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Doom 2 Forever. and Ever.
This game has changed the world. Before Doom 2 obviously was Doom. The game has introduced the FPS, or first person shooter. I myself have the doom collectors edition. It includes doom, doom 2, and Final Doom(TNT and the plutonia Experiment). Doom, however, is very old(over 10!) and doom 2 is turning 10 this year. Well, anyway, before my closing comment, i'd like to say this game is robably going to last for 10 more years(including Doom 3) until we are all writing on how legendary Doom 3 was and how it is all old. Aging is never a problem with games, its just if they are updated or not. Doom and Doom 2 were updated, with WADs, as you can create your own levels, episodes, and even games(such as final doom). My closing statement is:

I seem to be having a problem with my Doom Collectors Edition. The way the weapon is positioned in the game isnt right. It seems to have sunk lower, and if i get rid of the bottom dashboard, then it returns to the position it should of been while i had the dashboard up. I dont know how to position the screen. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Lack of Cable Stretch at Trap
I recently purchased an excellent gammer system and have re-discovered the fun of trying to land on a postage stamp at 140 knots. Flight Deck 3 is just plain fun.The catapult launch is great. The only change I would like to see is an upgrade that would simulate a more realistic cable stratch at trap. The stop is sudden and takes some of the excitement of wondering "if I am going to stop" out of the landing.

Thanks

3-0 out of 5 stars Great carrier - Soso planes.
Really 3 & 1/2 stars.

Normally, I shy away from any flightsim or trainsim add-on with the word "Abacus" in front of it. In my experience, Abacus Publishing has had a nasty habit of selling very mediocre products at full pop. However, I must admit that Flight Deck 3 is actually a very decent package.

I was most impressed by the carrier and I can't say I've seen a prettier one for FS2002 anywhere - payware or freeware. The textures are done very nicely (screenshots on Abacus' website don't do it justice) and it also sports moving radar dishes and a modeled lower deck. The elevators don't work, however, and a flag fluttering in the breeze would have been nice. The deck does have some static vehicles and crewmen, but no static aircraft. Night-lighting is also done nicely, though a more knowledgeable bloke informed me that it is not completely accurate and the carrier is conspicuously missing a meatball. While the carrier does have a wake painted in the water, the ship doesn't actually move - an unfortunate limitation of FS2002.
All in all, though, a first-class piece of scenery.

Aside from the gorgeous carrier, the program does come with 5 aircraft: an F18, F14, Harrier, E2C Hawkeye, and a CH46 helicopter. While all of the virtual cockpits are acceptable, I found the exterior modeling and flight physics to be very average compared to other payware planes. I have a FREEWARE F18, F14, and several helicopters that literally put these planes to shame. The F18, in particular, has landing gear that is always in the taxiing "collapsed" position, even when the plane is on approach. The Harrier is probably the best aircraft in the package and, though it doesn't look quite as good as Alphasim's, does have a more realistically difficult flight model. Either way, I would have been perfectly happy with the carrier by itself.

The biggest reason for carrier ops fans to buy this package, however, has to do with the ArrCab program that comes with it. Once freeware, but now solely licensed to Abacus, this program operates within FS2002 to deliver the carrier launches and cable arrested landings that the sim normally lacks. And considering the limitations of FS2002, I thought these effects were very well done. The Abacus package gives you the same carrier (U.S.S. George Washington) in 4 different locations around the globe but, if this isn't enough, the ArrCab utility allows the user to specify their own location for these effects. (namely any freeware add-on carriers)

If Abacus had really wanted to make this an outstanding product, they could have tried to implement some flights with real, recorded carrier ATC. (and hooked up with some better aircraft) Of course, as long as I'm dreaming, I'd also like some static aircraft on the deck, dynamic aircraft in the pattern, working elevators, waving flags, and a pony. The lack of any aural interaction with the tower does hurt the realism factor, but with the prettiest carrier out there and the ArrCab utility, I don't think there's currently anything else on the market to equal Flight Deck 3. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars tony hawk 4
I'm confused - is this new or used.It indicates used once you put it in your cart.As well, is this windows or mac.It says mac but then has system requirements for bot windows & mac.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun game but not as expected
I've been a Tony Hawk Pro Skater fan for years, every game seems to get better than the last and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is no exception, the addition of the spine transfer is genious, it allows for much more interesting lines and combo's than ever before. I find myself playing this game almost every day, the goals are much harder than Tony Hawk 3 and also alot more fun. unfortunately the PC version has many flaws that make me almost wish i haden't purchased it. in the bigger levels like san fransisco and kona i get alot of lag (im running a 2.5 ghz system w/128mb geforce T1-4200 w/8x agp and 1gb of ddr ram) even on the lowest setting 640 x 480 i experience it. the only way to get rid of it is to use distance fog which makes finding the skate and combo letters nearly impossible, not to mention distance fog is just plain sucky. setting the spin and switch buttons can't be done because you are forced to have them be shared as 1 button and this can't be changed.
Online play is the worst, you have to download and login to use gamespy arcade instead of how thps3 was where you had a lobby built into the game. so your constantly starting and shutting down your game just so you can find a decent room with people to skate with... not cool at all. the least they could have done was have a "skip intro" option like 3 did. oh and did i mention you can't kick people from your game if your the host? so if you find you have a cheater in your game (which will happen in the future) your forced to play with them.

To sum it all up the game itself is fun but has very little replay value once you finish all the goals due to the ... online play. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars A true skating game...
I never thought that THPS4 would ever come out on PC, but here it is!As soon as I saw it posted here, on Amazon.com, I instantly had it shipped. It just arrived yesterday, and it is so cool! The graphics are a lot better than they look on the screenshots, and the cheats are awesome!A definate must-have! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Its nice
I have not had time to enjoy MW4 online with the pack, but I like what I have seen. I hope that MW5 debuts soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This is an "expansion" to Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance. Which is an awesome game as well. In this pack you get 4 new mechs,2 new maps to play in, and some other stuff. You can play MW4 online with other people. If you like the Mechwarrior Series, you'll like this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stop wasting time and make us MW5!
Expansions often take time out that could be used for more things, like making a sequel to MW4:M.This isn't as good as the Clan pack, but it's ok.

Zeus: MW4:M has more assault mechs than any other MW game.12 of them.Add this and it's 14.This mech is ok.80 tons, 70 mph, LAMS.It carries a Lg Laser, 2 LRM 15, and HEAVY GAUSS RIFLE, my new favorite weapon.I replace weapons with that of clan, throw on more heat sinks and there you go.If you really want to use the HGR, take the Fafnir, it's got 2. 4/5

Hunchback: Goes pretty fast for 50 tons. The weapons are kind of stupid.2 med lasers, SRM 6, but the LBX AC 20 is nice. Not my favorite.2/5

Dragon: NO ARMOR AT ALL!85 mph, no jump jets, but I can live with that. The mech looks decently cool, but the weapons are very lame.Med laser, LRM 10, AC 5, HGR (only good one) 3/5

Highlander: The Zeus is better, but these weapons are ok.You better know how to aim if you want to win with the HGR, GR, Lg Lasers.4/5

The clan pack is better, brother, get that first.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good supplement, could have been better
If you are a MechWarrior 4 fanatic (like I am) then this expansion is probably a good buy.The 4 new mechs are excellent, I especially like the Zeus (a fast assault mech) and the Hunchback (a medium sized mech which can carry quite a heavy loadout of weapons.)It is also possible to arm the Dragon which is included with 4 Clan Ultra Autocannon 5s, which gives it quite a bit of punch for its size -- I've even taken down a Daishi (a very heavy, dangerous assault mech) with it, though only with luck helping out.The new weapon, the Heavy Gauss, is a bit more dubious in my view -- it takes up 4 slots, weighs 18 tons, and does 27 points of damage with a long reload time. The fact that it takes 4 slots means that there are lots of mechs you simply can't put it on, and I haven't been able to get a combination as deadly as the one I have on my Variant 1 Daishi: 4 Clan ER Large Lasers and 3 Clan Gauss Rifles, which can take down any mech with two shots (to get all those weapons on there, just lower its engine rating to free up weight). ... you should probably buy the main game -- this is, after all, a supplement which won't work at all without Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance installed and running. The IFF Jammer is basically useless unless you are playing against bots (computer players). Finally, there are two maps in this game -- Coliseum (one of my favorites, with a few cool details -- try shooting at the force fields that are protecting the crowd around the edge of the arena, for instance!) and Gagetown.I thought it was worth the price, but I don't know if I would if I weren't a fanatic -- there's nothing in this that'll allow you to beat my Daishi Variant 1, which was made with the basic game! :) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great game
I will write a few lines:
-Dont worry about crashes, because my system is a W2K, medium hardware and it is working OK. Only take care if you have a XP system.
-The story is a mix between adventure and mythologhy.
-The game is excelent if you dont love blood and violence, and prefering to use your brain and resolving puzzles.
-I am a RTS gamer, but this is the best adventure game for me, specially it has beatiful graphics and landscapes.
-The game has secuence if you can see the main line story about reborn and finding ancient power.
-I recommend you search the internet for the key "Atlantis 3" and you will find reviews and walktroughs.
Buy it now is a excellent game (and cheap).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a very nice game
This is a aventure / magic game, you will go trought different worlds: Sahara in the future, ancient Egypt, Paleolithic, etc.
The game is excellent if you like to use your brain and explore, if you like violence maybe is not OK. I have a medium performance system and it's working nice, no delays, no crashes (I have a W2K system). The puzzles are medium level. This is a very well trainig for your mind and exploration capabilities. I am a RTS player, and I don't know a lot of adeventure games, but i love Beyond Atlantis. Search internet using the key "Atlantis 3" and you will find more details.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dreamcatcher should have quit while they were ahead.
Beyond Atlantis (AKA Atlantis II) was a slightly flawed gem.(Pun intended for those who have played it.)Interesting, beautiful, difficult, reasonably well-plotted, internally logical, and fun.The only part THIS installment of the series got right was "beautiful."

I will say that the graphics in this game are wondrous. From the Arabian Nights courtyard to the Pink Floyd-esque "Membrane" (which seemingly represents the heroine's brain...or maybe Jung's collective unconcious...or maybe God as visualized by dolphins) the rendering is absolutely gorgeous.

But graphics alone do not make a good game. There is no logic to BA2...neither externally nor internally. The "plot" has you discovering an artifact that can imbue you with a superhuman wisdom by transporting you to a series of different realms and times and letting you experience those places through the eyes of one of its inhabitants. This scheme fails on a variety of levels.Sometimes, you appear in these realms as yourself, while in others, you are a completely unrecognizable character. There is no logic to WHY these worlds are chosen, nor to what you are supposed to "learn" in each.In fact, given that you are supposedly striving to achieve some sort of enlightenment that you can then pass on to the rest of humanity, it seems odd that the focus of the "Scheherazade" world is to lie, steal and seduce women.Eventually the sequence of realms seemscompletely arbitrary. It is similar to Ray Bradbury's "The Illustrated Man:" a series of unconnected short stories woven together by a loose and incomprehensible over-story.Except Bradbury wrote GOOD short stories. The chapters of BA2 are weak and silly, each and every one.Even the few good puzzles (and there are a couple) are mired down in a morass of confusion and pretentiousness.

Beyond Atlantis was a quality game...one that made you think, feel, and examine your character's motives.(Plus, the "White Horse" cutscene in BA may be the single best cutscene in any adventure game ever.)It is an injustice to THAT game that this one shares the same title.Avoid this game at all costs unless you are desperate for some eye candy.

3-0 out of 5 stars XP Issues
I thought this game very enjoyable with fun puzzles and good graphics. the heroine makes the game much more interesting as well, because of her casual yet cocky attitude. but i must agree with previous reviewers that although it says XP compatible on the box, there were a number of glitches i had to deal with, such as slow scene play, and difficulty with the charators speech. i'm not sure why this happens, but it seems only with XP computers, it is deffinatly something to watch out for, even if your computer is new and up-to-date. other than those problems, this games could be very enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful graphics, good puzzles, very enjoyable to play!
Atlantis 3, Beyond Atlantis II
As the previous Atlantis games, this game contains beautiful graphics. The storyline is enjoyable, not in the least because of our feisty heroine and the beautiful scenes she encounters. The puzzles are interesting and not too difficult or too easy. The game is wonderfully easy to operate, not a mouse click too much is needed, many compliments for that! Also nice is the story in a story, where the hero suddenly is a male.
Any downsides: Very annoying is the puzzle that relies on motoric skill or luck (throwing the rock at the tiger). The end of the story is somewhat of an anticlimax. And there seem to be a few sides of the Cristal unused, suggesting that the makers of the game got fed up, and did not want to venture into more different worlds?
But overall, one of the best adventure games around! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Gameplay, But WAAAAY Too Short
If you've played the original Disciples II, then you definitely want this (and the other) expansion packs. The gameplay is almost exactly the same as with the original game. Outside of a few minor tweaks, this expansion pack is essentially just an additional few scenarios. That, unfortunately, is exactly why I've rated this expansion pack as only three stars when I rated the original game as four stars. Looking solely at the interlinked sagas instead of the stand-alone scenarios, this expansion pack includes only three scenarios within each race's saga. And, as this is "Servants of the Dark" and not "Guardians of the Light," you can only play as the Undead and the Legions. That's much, much, too short for an expansion pack. The original game had seven scenarios per saga (with four playable races). The game also includes a design decision I disagree with: your hero stops getting new abilities from leveling when he reaches level 15. Depending on the scenario, he can still level. But, you don't get to choose another ability. Essentially, up to a point, all he'll get is some additional Hit Points and Damage Points. That sort of takes a lot of the fun out of the game. Especially, since the minimum starting level for your hero is 10. Heck, I imported a level 15 hero from the original game and couldn't even level him at all until the third scenario.

I'd also like to point out that even though you don't need the original Disciples II to play the expansion pack, the game only includes the Undead and Legions side of the original. So, if you want to replay ALL the original game (which I did), you either have to have that original game lying around, or you have to buy this expansion pack PLUS the "Guardians of the Light" expansion pack (which I've done). Because of the shortness of this exansion pack, Strategy First would be wise to not sell it, "Guardians of the Light," and "Rise of the Elves" separately. They should put all of them together and sell the combination as the expansion pack. However, if you played the original game and liked it, I still recommend this game. It's short, but good. ...
