3-0 out of 5 stars It has potential...
Brothers In Arms is, as the name suggests, a story similar to that of the series Band of Brothers. You are Sgt. Matt Baker and fight as a trooper in the 101st Airborne alongside a squad of your wartime buddies from D-day until eight days after. Good start for a story, and it does grab you at the beginning. But it let's go rather quickly.
The characters are underdeveloped. You learn a little about your character via short monologues before each mission and a little about your comrades from blurbs in the instruction book, but that's about it. Your squad is supposedly comprised of deep, multi-dimensional people who each have different struggles throughout the ordeal. But those dynamic characters are never explored. They rarely speak, and when they do it is so rushed it loses all meaning. Additionally, you have no need to get attached to them or fear their loss for if they die during a mission they magically rise again for the next mission. You only lose your men between missions, as the story dictates.
The gameplay itself is entertaining if a little repetitive. You must use your squad to outmaneuver the enemy and suppress him. For this game actual military strategy does help, but it's not necessary for victory. The game is repetitive because usually the same tactics work for every encounter. Each encounter has a different setting, number of enemies, etc., but the basic strategy rarely changes. Here is another instance where a little more depth would have added a lot. Your men are not the brightest troopers to land in Normandy and they often die frustratingly quickly. Also, you have very few commands to issue them, making it difficult to tell them exactly what you want them to.
And if you consider historical accuracy an important quality in a game, one more thing will infuriate you about this game. You are sent on some insane missions. For instance, your squad is ordered to clear out the entire industrial sector of Caen. I found myself looking for the rest of thousands of allied troops who were involved in the battle at Caen, not to mention the thousands of German soldiers who defended the city. Granted, it is just a game, but that boiling down such a massive confrontation as Caen to six allies vs. thirty Germans is a little ridiculus.
The game contains few glitches, but some are rather noticeable (like a tank firing backwards through its turret to hit you. Hmmm...).
But, despite my complaints, I did enjoy the game. The story will captivate anyone who enjoys WWII history/fiction. The game play is also entertaining and different from regular 1st person shooters. The sound, lighting, and other technical aspects are beyond comparison. They are worth whatever frustrations the rest of the game provides. So, I would recommend this game for at least a rental, definitely worth buying if you enjoy the more antiquated weaponry and tactics from the WWII-era, especially since the price has been lowered.

5-0 out of 5 stars War the Way It Ought to Be
This is an awesome game.At first I thought the idea of commanding several troops into battle would be too difficult, but the controls are relatively simple.Don't get me wrong, this is not an easy game. There's no way you and your troops will survive if you go in guns blazing. It does take careful planning. My only frustration came from my squad not going EXACTLY where I tell them to go.For instance, I'll direct them to hide behind a barrier and sometimes they'll go in front or the side and get shot up.It's important to try to keep them alive if you want to get through each mission.

Since this is an actual event, it made it even more enjoyable to take part in history.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very "different" shooter for the PS2
This game is very "diffrent" than other shooters for PS2.

The tactical part of the game is great and is a real develpment for shooters overall. The game uses the concept of suppressive fire and flanking movements. The AI also uses this stratagey when they attack you.

The weapons are great. The shooting is extremely difficult. I believe that the shooting is very realistic. As one other reviewer said, I can't believe that they missed the fact that you can't reload the M1 while there is still ammo in the rifle.

The online portion of the game was a let down for me.The most players that can be in one game is four, and it takes forever for all the screens to load to play. You can not use your mic while in the games online, only when you are in the pregame set up.Furthermore, no one plays online, and it is very difficult to find a good game. Why can't game designers copy the Socom 2 model?Have clans, good maps, decent mic communication, and good lobbies.

Overall, this game is very authentic in it's gameplay. The sterotypical diolague is kinda dumb, but I can get beyone that. The tactical elements of the game is a huge development and should set a new standard in terms of FPS tactics. However, I would recomend Call of Duty: Finest Hour or Socom 2 (for online play) before playing this game.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Game Is Okay
When I first saw this game I thought it was really cool. I saw it on tv. I bought it and I played it and I didnt really like it. The two player mode is not so good because you cannot work in cooperation you have to kill eachother. Another thing about the 2player thing is that you cannot have a co-op story mode. The story is really hard, even if you put it on the easy level. Maybe thats my opinion becuase im not such a ww2 game player. The missions are really hard for me. I think it is a waste of money. The graphics are great though. The game also has a lot of cursing and bloody images.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best first person shooter ever
I bought this game on pc but i did'nt have the minimum requirements so i got it ps2 , the grapics are brill and is a must buy product. It has the action of medal of honour but is allso tactical.Multiplayer is the i have seen yet because i have 3 brothers so it s great.I hope expansion packs will be brought out.Buy it ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have buy.
I have played all the Splinter Cell games now after being hooked in by the Pandorra Tomorrow Demo. Chaos theory is a little easier than the previous games though I have only tried it on the 'normal' difficulty. Presumably the higher difficulties will be the way to play this game if you any experience on the series. The 'Starforce' protection issue is something however that you will need to consider. It hasn't caused issues with either my CD-RW/DVD combo drive or my DVD-RW and I have cloned my DvD's without any issues. Nevertheless removing it could be a problem for you so you may want to think about this. Personally I find this better than Steam anyday. Half-Life was such a pain to get going and in the end a slightly better than mediocre game that I decided never to go with valve again. Chaos Theory however is the best game I have had on my system since Far Cry. Not sure why others are having troubles with performance. It runs fine on my PC at 1024x768 with a 2.8ghz P4, a ATI 9600 Extreme (AGP 8X) and 1GM dual channel RAM, running with 2x Anti-Aliasing and 4x Anistropic filtering. There is sufficent performance to run the game at this level and leave bittorrent running as well. If your system is similar then you shouldn't have any troubles. The game looks great. The only downside to using the ATI card is the game downgrades to 1.1 shaders. The nVidia card supports shaders 3.0 so it may look better but I haven't seen it run on nVidia. Either way it looks right up there with Far Cry and half-life 2 so I wouldn't worry either way if you have ATI. The mission format is the same as the previous game and although there has been an attempt to create multiple paths the game is still fairly linear. As I have mentioned the game on 'normal' does feel somewhat easier than previous versions however all in all this is a ripper title that you shouldn't miss if you found any joy in the previous incarnations.

3-0 out of 5 stars too bad its third-person perspective
I only tried to play the demo. But I have to say right up front that the third-person perspective hurts this game. Having extensively played another stealth game called Thief, from the first-person perspective, I find the third-person perspective of Splinter Cell downright unacceptable. Perhaps the game maker will see the light and go first-person in the next game.

I also found that this game taxed my computer. I have a 2.6 GHz computer with a 128MB video card, but the game video was sticky even at 800x600 resolution. I think that if we could get rid of watching the player's character from the third-person perspective and instead use a first-person perspective, this might alleviate some of the video problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improved gameplay, awesome gaming experience
For those who played the previous Splinter Cells, you don't want to miss #3, and for those who have never played any S.C., here's your chance to catch up.
The overall gameplay is improved, with more moves and more possiblities, and so are the graphics, which are just fantastic.
As a reference, I am playing this with a Nvidia 6600GT and 1GB of RAM, and it looks absolutely gorgeous while being perfectly fluid.
The only critic I would have so far is that, once again, the solo campaign is too short. It's so enjoyable that it's a shame it can't last (the new possible moves and choices, like breaking locks, contribute to that unfortunately).
Other than that, that's a classic, run for it, you won't be disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great game... too bad
This is an otherwise excellent game that unfortunately uses the intrusive copy protection software known as Starforce.Normally I don't care a whit about copy protection, but Starforce installs itself as a hidden hardware driver and sits between your IDE / SATA hardware and the operating system. This causes all kinds of system glitches, crashes, slowdowns and on occasions requires a complete reinstall of Windows.Much of this comes from careless and poor programming - but the truth is, as long as the game is protected, the publishers don't care at all what happens to your system. This attitude makes little sense, really since it only takes about a month for the latest protection schemes to be broken anyway.

Oh, and as an added bonus, the Starforce garbage remains on your system even after you uninstall the game. And the Starforce folks won't tell you how to remove it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in series, co-op can be buggy
After being disappointed by Pandora Tomorrow's thoroughly mediocre single player campaign, I was highly skeptical of this title. However, Chaos Theory is vastly improved over its predecessors in every way. The level design is much better, production values rival any game on any platform, and the co-op mode is a fantastic addition to the series - provided it actually works. If the co-op mode had a few more levels and hadn't been so terribly buggy, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory would have been the best PC game in years. As it stands, it is still one of the finest stealth/action games ever made, and every fan of the genre should own it.

The cornerstone of this game is still the single player campaign. The previous titles have featured strictly linear levels with small maps. Chaos Theory features much larger maps and a much larger degree of freedom. It also boasts a much higher degree of interactivity with the environment. The levels are still not open-ended by a long shot. They are best described as "semi-linear". Each level features a linear series of mini-challenges that usually have two or three solutions to them. You might be able to enter a room through the front door or by a vent that comes from a storage room, but you still end up in the same place. On average though, the design and flow of the levels is excellent. The game keeps you moving towards your objectives without ever making you feel like you are on rails. The best part about each level is the size. The levels are very large and typically last you an hour or more, depending upon your style of gameplay. The game's ten levels will probably take you between 10 and 15 hours to finish.

Each level also contains one or more optional objectives, and a scoring system that rates you based upon how many alarms you set off and how many objectives you accomplish. This system works much better than the "three alarms and you fail" or "one alarm and you fail" system of the previous games. It also gives you incentive to replay each mission until you achieve a perfect score.

In addition to the better level design, the single play game features some other improvements. Chief among them is much improved audio - namely, a huge number of sound bites and well-written lines of dialog. The terrific voice acting from the first game has returned. You can interrogate most guards, and most of the interrogation dialog offers some amusing moments, as well as some useful gameplay tips. The atmospheric sound is superb as well. The terrific audio complements the game's gorgeous visuals, which easily rank amongst the best that the PC has to offer. Sam is decked out in detail all over his body and all of his moves look very cool. The environments are beautiful and the lighting is simply perfect. Chaos Theory sports arguably the finest production values in any PC game to date.

Does the gameplay have any faults? A few. One of them is inconsistency in the AI. The sharpness of the AI occasionally changes, based upon the level. Sometimes guards won't notice if their buddy gets knocked out three feet away from them. Other times, they will notice their KO'ed buddy when he is in complete darkness 35 feet away. Another minor flaw is that the game favors an overly aggressive approach versus a nonlethal approach. For most of the levels, You will have to self-impose a "no-kill" rule to give yourself some challenge. Also, like its predecessors, the campaign lacks lasting value, and the story is average.

Once you are done with the single player campaign, a true treat awaits you on-line with the game's innovative co-op mode. This assumes that you can actually get it to work. More on that later. The game mechanics of the co-op mode are largely the same as the single-player campaign, only this time you have a partner, and there are more guards. The game also throws some high walls at you that can only be scaled using special co-op moves. For example, you can give your friend a boost to the top of a wall, and then he can let you climb up his back to get up over it. The result is usually quite thrilling. The co-op mode is full of "you take the guy on the right and I'll take the guy on the left" moments. Quietly taking out a room full of guards with your buddy is an experience that is a unique and very memorable This part of the game is a long, long overdue addition to this genre, and you will probably be left hoping for an exclusively co-op game in the future.

Unfortunately, the co-op mode is riddled with so many bugs that there is less than a 50% chance that you'll actually be able to play it. Ubisoft has patched the game twice, but I wouldn't rely on being able to play co-up just yet. Plus, there are also only four co-op levels, and you can't save your progress. If these issues didn't exist, Chaos Theory would be worthy of a 9.3+ score. Nonetheless, co-op mode adds a lot to the overall package and helps elevate the game to elite status.

"Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" has breathed new life into a series that was on the risk of going stale. It sets high standards for production values and, in the meantime, provides an innovative new gameplay mode. The single player is by far the best of the series, and co-op is pure ecstasy --- if you can actually get it to work. As an added bonus, you can get the DVD-ROM version for this game, instead of some clumsy 5-CD job.Sooner or later, you should own "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars RATCHET AND CLANK~!
This game has a great story with gr8 mini-games action and puzzles. The diverse arsenal (as the name implies) is enough to cause massive mayhem to exterminate the tyranoids and dr. nefarious. All though the game is intended for teens and older, there are still kids that play and are really good. The online is where the fun is meant to be. With 8 different weapons and equipped with a wrench for default the many different choices to play are team deathmatch, deathmatch, ctf, and siege which is like a seek and destroy. If you like cartoonish arcade style shooters or u just want to have fun I recomend Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal

5-0 out of 5 stars Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal Review
I am a Playstation gamer of a serious magnitude.I am constantly in search of an exhilarating game to keep me slaving into the night, pushing myself to conquer that last level or boss. Many games have disappointed me in the past for their feeble story lines, or facile levels that consume no amount of though at all.I had almost given up video games as a whole for the reason of simply not enough challenge until my friend bestowed upon Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal as a birthday present. After experiencing first-hand this game's depth and quality, I have know idea why I would even consider letting go of video games.
First off, is the never-ending story line that Up Your Arsenal presents. The story line would trick me repeatedly by always giving me one more level to beat before I faced the boss. This was a good thing because only a handful of games keep you on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.All of the levels are diverse, very interactive, and detailed beyond the standard video game.Enemies gradually become harder in coordination with the story and your skill. All of the adversaries are different with each level. For instance, Aquatos is an underwater level filled with sewers and slime, and the enemies there are fierce sewage creatures covered in a poisonous slime that rise from the polluted liquid beneath you.Vast ranges of deadly enemies begin to show themselves toward the end of the game to keep the player enthralled throughout the whole journey.
Next to Halo 2, this game has more weapons than any other game I have played not including all the extra gadgets that you earn and buy.Unlike Halo though, each weapon had a unique and different technique in terminating the enemy.Weapons can also be upgrade as far as Version 8 for maximum performance. These qualities make each gun an adventure in themselves. After talking with fellow RC:UYA online players and conducting polls of a favorite weapon on forums, most people seem to like the Flux Rifle as the weapon of choice as well as the Blitz Gun.Players showed a disliking for the Mini Rocket-tube because of its difficulty to dodge, and the wrench for its impracticable use in tight situations. All of the weapons are a definite plus in the game.
In most games purchased, the online section is a plus, but not the main reason to buy the game. That is not the case for the online adventure in Up Your Arsenal. There can be hundreds and even thousands of players on at a time. The layout of the online system is very accessible, so communication is easy and the search engines are always up-to-date with the most current player online.Everything online is organized and simple enough for an eight year-old, but mature enough for a player of 18 years of age. That is a convenience because I know kids online just starting the sixth grade and adults acquiring there bachelors degree.I still have not found a pedophile out of any of them. The levels are similar to the ones in story mode, but altered for multiplayer activity. There is a choice of levels that are massive and require patience and strategy, and small levels that fire great competition, chaos, and adrenalin. The same goes with the weapons, slightly altered for an even more different feel that drifts the player away from the story mode. The online is the highlight of Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and if for no other reason, should be bought for the thrill of talking to kids across the country while competing for live stats that rank players on there performance.
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal has not gotten old for months and I still thrive to play it everyday. It is ironic that the activities before I got RC:UYA were the ones that I had substituted for video gaming, and now I have replaced this game for all other hobbies of mine.Between beating story mode, weapon upgrades, and the online adventure I have no regrets of playing this game day in and day out.I think the perfect 10 out of 10 given by PSM magazine to Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal can back me up on that.

2-0 out of 5 stars I concure with my fellow chessmates.
Although this game is STILL better than most other chess games, the "little things" is what brings the quality down...such as: installing the cd in the disk drive every freakin ....freaking time that you want to play the game..Too many features..buttons and screens to choose from. and ...I am not the most computer savy person...So, they would need to take that into consideration......also, why is it that the lower players are so freakin strong all of a sudden!!! (Little josh w..and a few other players around his strength level are a joke)......Finally, my advice is to wait about 2 or 3 years to buy it....or wait until it shows up at a pawn shop!!

1-0 out of 5 stars UBISoft messed up on this one
I have owned every version of this product since Chessmaster 5000. Sure Fritz is stronger and has a better reputation but for ease of use and flexibility, you couldn't do better than Chessmaster. At least that's what I thought until I laid my mitts on the piece of #&$@# that is the 10th edition.
Boy, did UBISoft miss the boat. First they stop you from playing the game without the CD. Come on! What's up with that? The old mode of refreshing your installation every 10 games or so was inconvenient enough. And now I absolutely must have the CD in my drive to enjoy a game of chess? UBISoft should pay attention to the competition. The makers of Fritz know better.
But the major annoyance is that this program is as buggy as hell. It crashes all the time and there is no consistency in gameplay. One minute the program is absolutely slaughtering you, the next minute it makes the dumbest move possible. After a couple of months fiddling with the damn thing, I uninstalled it and went back to playing the 9000 version and Fritz.
I'm giving UBISoft one more chance. If the next version they turn out is as crappy as this one, then they have lost me as a customer permanently.

2-0 out of 5 stars Be VERY careful!
All of the warnings here are completely accurate, the "security" features on this thing are AWFUL.There is a good chance, esecially if you have a newer machine (which you need for the enormous amounts of memory this thing takes), that you won't be able to get the game to run at all.I was only able to get this product to work after reading the helpful reviews on this site--luckily, I do have a non-writable DVD drive I was able to install with.If you don't have a non-writable drive, you're completely out of luck.I also went through the supposedly optional registration process that appears to be not-so-optional.

I cannot tell you how frustrating it was trying to get Chessmaster to run--the "support" line is utterly useless. The guy I talked to didn't seem to know anything about the security device probelms this product has and didn't even hint that a writable drive or lack of on-line registration might be the problem.

I did eventually have success getting Chessmaster X working, and to be honest, I have been enjoying it.I have found one thing that really bothers, me, though: the 'personalites' play MUCH stronger chess in rated games than in training games.Really, really, REALLY, stronger.Personalities I'm beating with no problem (and no help from blunder alert, or chessmaster hints, or taking back moves) kick my butt soundly and quickly in rated games.

All the bad things other reviewers have said about this excremental fraud are true. Some of the good things said are true, too.But does the good outweigh the bad?Let me put it this way: If customers were allowed to test-drive this loser-program before paying for it, Ubisoft would be bankrupt in no time flat.

No, no, don't believe me....--Go ahead.Buy it.Join the rest of us suckers.Misery loves company.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont even waste your time
I wonder what the hell UBI was thinking.

First of all you always need the cd in your drive to play...retarded. what if you have a tablet? are you going to carry that external cd drive with you everywhere just because you want to play chess? what if your running on battery power? are you gonna drain your laptop battery just cause you want to play chess?

secondly forget about even trying to backup this cd. the amount of copy protection on it ...

and upon all this the engine is faulty! a lot of times my opponent makes moves that are obviously wrong and that any chess amateur could see.. even when the ratings are in the 2000+ ration. This software is a total waste of time.

dont even bother to use the only gameplay... have to enter a 16 digit cd key everytime you login. get fritz instead!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mario and more
This game rules! For all you people out there who thought the NINTENDO 64 version was fun, buy this to waste 10 minutes to 3 hours. You can play story mode like in the game for the NINTENDO 64.But this game provides more of a challenge with more stars. You can also play mini games that you unlock as you play the game. You can choose different characters as you defeat their bosses. Each character also has a special ability that only they can use.If you want your first NINTENDO DS game to rule mario is the man to pick.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST DS GAME SO FAR!
I own the original N64 game, and I have to say, the DS version is better. It's awesome to play a classic in a new way, in any place (well, assuming you're not underwater, etc...). I was amazed at the feel controlling with the stylus brings. It felt awesome to race Koopa again and all of that. Much better than filth like Star Wars Ep.III: Revenge of the Sith.

THE BEST PART OF THIS REMAKE GAME IS THE SIMPLY AWESOME MINI GAMES THAT WILL KEEP YOU OCCUPIED FOR HOURS AND HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic with modern twists!
First off, when I first played Super Mario 64 for the nintendo 64, I WAS NOT crazy about it. Not at all. I liked games like Donkey Kong 64, so Mario wasn't a big deal to me because I was wrapped up in Donkey Kong 64. Now as the years go by, I heard about this new Mario game. For a Nintendo DS? Finally, November came, and I said, ow, why not. So I bought Mario 64 DS, and Feel The Magic XX/XY. I was stunned with Mario, it's like now, I got to play with Yoshi and Luigi!(wasn't crazy for Wario) There were so many great things about this game. But there were also some bad things, and there was the ugly.

The Good-
1. You can play a classic on the go!
2. There are three new playable characters.
3. 3D graphics are absolutely amazing.
4. You'll want to play it over and over.
5. 30 extra stars than the original, count, 150!
6. Amazing new levels, each testing a different characters abilities.
7. Multiplayer!
8. That music is still great!

The Bad-
1. Gets a little boring after a while, but you'll still want to play later.
2. Can be a little frustrating.
3. Characters have unique abilities and strengths, but still overall, they're all the same.
4. Bosses are a little easy.(But hey, they're still fun!)

The UGLY-
1. NO analog stick.
2. Made my fingers hurt using the D-pad to much.
3. A little too short if you get into it.

Overall-
The game is still the bomb like the original, sure it has it's flaws, but who cares, unless you really look at that kind of stuff. This SHOULD be your first choice when you buy the DS, unless you're not a Mario person like I am now. For $30.00, this game is not to be missed. Remember, it's the same game, just with new characters, levels, and multiplayer! This review is all true, so believe me, it should not be missed, especially to a Nintendo DS owner!

Overall grade: A

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank-a you so much for to playing dis game!!!
Okay... let's see...
Nintendo has continued its tradition of going beyond its call of duty of making kicka** hardware... and making kicka** software!

The good people at nintendo who have made Super Mario 64 have remade the game and since it's Mario 64... who better to play than... Mario! Psyche, you're stuck with Yoshi until you get Mario, Luigi and Wario, each one special in thier own way... next one to make a special Ed joke gets shot...

My main gripe was... the lack of analog, otherwise this game owned, with multiplayer compatibility and minigames! Yay! Go buy it! Seriously! I don't know why I'm shouting! I'm gonna seek professional help now! Bye!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than the Original
I never owned a Nintendo 64 system, so the only times that I've played the original version of Super Mario 64 have been in various hotel rooms. But now that I own the new version of the game on the Nintendo DS system, I know that this new game is much better than the original.

One thing that I like better about this game is that in addition to Mario, you get to play as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi. Each character has his own strengths and weaknesses. You'll start the game as Yoshi, my favorite character in the Mario games. After defeating certain bosses, you'll literally unlock the other three characters. Another thing that I like better is that there are now 150 hidden Stars to be found. That's 30 more than the original game.

Also, this game has lots of extra features. There are LOTS of mini-games to play. 8 of them are available to play right from the start by visiting the Rec Room. More mini-games can be unlocked by catching the rabbits that are hopping around the castle. And that's not all. You can battle up to 3 of your friends in Wireless Versus mode as you try to be the first one to catch all 5 stars.

The only thing that I don't really like about this game is that you need to really get acquainted with the controls. It is very hard to control the game, as the Nintendo DS doesn't have a Control Stick. There are three control modes: Standard, Touch, and Dual-Hand. Choose whichever one is most comfortable for you to use. Even though I don't really like the controls, I am overall very happy to own this game, and would recommend it to any Super Mario fan. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning, deep, funny, gorgeous - just great!
Psychonauts was purchased solely on the Tim Schafer name. I loved Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and of course the Monkey Island range and so picked up this game as soon as I could without reading a single review.

First Impressions
After sitting through the various fun cut sequences (useful in getting you aclimated to the weird style of the people in the game), I was off. The initial control method borrows heavily from 3D platformers such as Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie and of course the Mario franchise and so whilst I felt at home when controlling Raz (the main character), I was somewhat concerned this game was nothing more than 'another' platformer.

But the game was fun and had lots of collecting so I plodded on in the apparent cutsy world of Psychonauts... As the game progresses, however, a much darker more interesting story unfolds. One which has you jumping into people's minds where you see their fragmented thoughts and the vaulted scary emotional baggage contained inside. This, along with the unique fighting control had me hooked. Sure I wanted to collect everything - and there's lots of collecting to do - but I also was genuinely fascinated by how the story was going to play out.

Controls
Psychonauts uses the usual third-person control of left thumbstick for movement and right thumbstick for camera. You can assign your offensive moves from a skillset of 'psych' powers to the R, white and black buttons. Fans of Zelda's Wind Waker will recognize that tidy way of ensuring you have the essential fighting tools to hand when you need them. Aside from the occasional auto-camera fubar, the controls are solid.

Graphics
Now this is where things get interesting. This game has some of the most varied and colorful graphics I've seen. When you get to the Matador's mind you'll see what I mean; it's like someone put a blacklight in my TV. And since a large portion of the game is played out inside people's minds the game is freed from logical imagery or even realistic forces (such as gravity). A guard that you enter has this bizarre paranoid mind for example; it's a rolling upside down/sideways forward world that's amazing to play on and so good to look at. I really cannot fault the in game graphics or the unique style. My only complaint on this front is most of the cut scenes are in-game rendered (that's good), but one or two are movies still using the game's engine. When these sequences appear it has the graininess of obvious compression and can break the spell of playing. Small point though.

Sound
What you'd expect in a zany game - ochestral one minute and Benny Hill the next. Sound effects are put to good use and the voice over acting is stunning. Everything fits perfectly.

Overall
I love this game. I'm not done with it - I'm about 70% in and I've been playing for 12 hours or so. I have taken the time to try to get a lot of the collecting done so if you whiz through it, it may be a quick affair. But this game deserves to be savoured - no other platformer on the XBox has this depth, humor and gameplay. It's got everything - it's a text adventure, a platformer, a shooter, a pinball game and a movie and it all blends perfectly. The puzzles are harder than the end of level bosses and that's the way it should be -there is no button mashing to win in this game. It's on par with epic game's such as Zelda Ocarina or Mario 64... and if these sorts of games appeal to you then you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not buying this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game with huge environments
Even when you play just a little of this game you will love it. First of all the humor is great (even though a little crude but who really gives). The environments are huge and when you find secret rooms you can get things that actually help in the game instead of some games where all you get are extras or small movie clips.(The game does have extras too though.)The game almost has no flaws in its gameplay. The game gives you a surprise many times. I also like that sometimes you can choose from a selection what you are going to say to somebody else. Just like in KOTOR. Even though the game is solid I think the 50 dollar price tag is a little too much. So if you have $50 in your pocket and you want adventure video game you mussssssssssst get Psychonauts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Psychonauts - Clever, Imaginative, Fun!
Let me start off this review by saying that I play a lot of different videogames, and owe allegiance to no genre in specifics, which is why I'm not going to compare this game to others. There are a variety of aspects that the game has which make it awesome, and I will cover these individually, in seperate paragraphs.

First off, creativity. This is not a spoiler, so have no fear as I progress. The game revolves around a ten year old child with psychic abilities by the name of Razputin, or "Raz".Without his parent's knowledge, Raz sneaks into Whispering Rocks Psychic Summer camp, a secret government training facility for young psychics.Once discovered by the camp counsellors, he is informed that his parents have been called, and will pick him up in a couple of days.Until then, he is not allowed to participate in any psychic training or activities.Of course, this doesn't stop our young adventurer from doing exactly that, and this is where the game begins. The game invites you to actually explore other character's minds, usually to help them solve an internal problem (frequently due to insanity), and each of the levels creatively reflect that character's problems. For example, you are invited into the mind of Fred, a distant relative of Napoleon, who has a split personality disorder as a result of continually losing strategy games to one of the inmates at the asylum. As you enter his head to kick Napoleon out and restore Fred's sovereignty of his mind, you are invited to play a game of strategy versus Napoleon's embodiment in Fred's mind.

Humor: I have to admit that I have been particular to Tim Schafer's sense of humor ever since playing Grim Fandango, and this game made me laugh a lot. For instance, at one point in the game you find yourself in the mind of a former high school wrestler. The walls inside the sewers of his mind are decorated with high school lockers, and one passageway is designed as a gym shower room, at which Raz remarks "Man, I feel like I'm back in High School...Which is wierd, because I'm only ten years old"The game is full of clever little side comments which make the game a blast to play, and the interactions with the other characters are constantly amusing (My favorite character is a psychic camper by the name of Mikhail, who is from Russia and has an obsession with finding a hairless bear)

Gameplay: I like the style of gameplay a lot. This is one of the first platformers I've played in a long time that seems to actually get everything right. If it's possible, you just have to try.If it's not possible, then there's no way to hack around it until you're supposed to.Some games tend to screw this up and allow the impossible, and it's nice to play a game that has a good environment to it.Moving on, the control system is nice. You move with the left analog, adjust the view with the right analog. You can assign three psychic powers (out of a possible 8) to hot buttons, and the game pauses while you assign them (you assign by pushing right on the d-pad).You can pull items out of your backpack, which never gets full (which doesn't break realism because at any given time you only have a max of something like 13 items of small-medium size). The game allows double jumping, which I usually think is cheap, but Psychonauts excuses it by defining it as an innate psychic ability which can be improved once you get the active psychic ability "levitate".The only thing I disliked about the gameplay was the fact that when you tried to target things, you had to be fairly close to your target, which seems silly when the main reason you would target something in Psychonauts is to use a ranged weapon like Psi Blast.

Sound/Music: This game has an awesome soundtrack.Every mind you invade seems to have the perfect music written for it, from the Mexican-themed "Black Velvetopia", to the Godzilla-like "Lungfishopolis".I'm not really an expert on describing music, which is why this part is going to be short, but let it be known that the music is just as awesome as the rest of the game, I just can't describe it owing to my own deficiencies.

Graphics: This game uses the xbox's graphical potential fully.I experienced no lag at all while playing, and yet could see clearly that everything was richly textured, high on polys, and gorgeous to look at.The graphical style is a little cartoony, which is something that I love in videogames, but I understand it is an acquired taste, so that is something you should definitely be aware of.In addition, each mind uses the game's graphics slightly differently, and gameplay varies a lot from mind to mind. For example, the earlier mentioned "Black Velvetopia" has a somewhat inverted color scheme, as if the world was being viewed under a blacklight.

So here we go with a final summary, which is probably the only thing most of you readers will read anyways.
Creativity: 10
Humor: 9.5
Sound: 9
Gameplay: 8.8
Graphics: 10

Overall: 9.5 - This game is one of the best games I've ever played, and is one of the best out there for xbox.Get it! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best so far this year
Everytime Tim Schafer creates a game, I know it will be a blast.Having been on a roll starting with The Day of the Tentacle up through The Grim Fandango, each game has been delightfully intelligent, creative and an overall wonderful experience.Psychonauts is no different. In fact, it is one of the best games I have played not only this year but in a long time.

The setup is that there is a camp for psychic children who feel different in the outside world. At the camp, the counselors teach children how to harness their power to become Psychonauts, psychics who actually enter people's minds and sort out their problems.Because of this setup, each and every world is completely different from the others.Connected to a hub world of the camp, each real "level" is a person's mind. And each mind reflects the person's personality, fears, phobias etc.For instance, the beginning level is that of your drill instructor. His level is a warzone complete with mines, air plane drops, explosions, barbed wire etc.

Tim Schafer's touch is also evident in the characters who are actually characters. They all have a personality and are very emotive.I haven't laughed at a video game so hard since Conker's Bad Fur Day.This game is hillarious. From the kid who practices looking through a peep hole in the day to get practice for when it's filled with girls to trashing a town Godzilla style, the game has it in spades. However, there are some surprisingly disturbing moments in the game that are also darkly humorous.Because you have psychic powers, you also can do some pretty cool stuff from pyrokinesis, telekinesis, levitation, invisibility, etc. These moves help you progress through the levels and pick up hidden items throughout the game.

Graphically, the game is awesome on the Xbox. The levels are done in vivid colors and with a wonderful cartoon style. The campground seems alive as there are creatures walking your path. From squirrels, crows, pigeons, lizards, bears, etc, the world seems populated and just feels real. You can tell a lot of time and effort was put in to make this game come alive and it works. The game is presented in 480p, for those interested.

Aurally, the characters are voiced to perfection. Some great voice actors have been employed and it really helps create characters that are lovable. The only audio glitch I've noticed is that sometimes my speakers will "click" as voices come in or as the sound changes sometimes. The game is also presented in 5.1 surround in game.

Since the game is a platformer, all of the standards apply. In the real world and in each person's mind, there are a ton of things to collect. In the real world, there are arrowheads that can be pulled from the ground that represent cash. There is a scavenger hunt also going on that will earn you rank (which gives you new powers) and there are cards that can be formed as more rank.In each person's mind, there are also different things to collect such as emotional baggage, mental cobwebs, figments of the imagination and safes which you much punch open to reveal some of the person's past. Some of these slide shows are funny and some are actually kind of sad as you see how these people came to be who they are.I list these items to collect just as a note that the game definitely exhibits all of the charms of a platformer. But there actually is a reason to collecting everything and they fit together in this humorous world.

The game moves quickly and besides one or two intstances of panning that had the game do a wave type pattern, it is perfect. My recommendation if you play the game is to take your time talking to everyone. It helps flesh out the story and if you listen and keep making rounds after each world you will see minor breakups, makeups, humorous instances involving squirrels who tell one kid to kill everyone, and plain funny dialogue.Take your time with this one and you will definitely be rewarded.

This game is great, it's just what I was looking for.It helped remind me why I play video games. When a person can create such wonderful worlds and allow you to play in them, you realize why you play games. It is so creative.Where else can you be chased by a giant fish, rage across town as a Godzilla-like creature, be in a disco world where you must race, pin-ball style, wage war against a Napolean complex and set fire to squirrels? If you want a creative and fun video game that will take approximately 10-15 hours of your time, then this is definitely a must buy.Sure some say the game is too easy and relies on platforming cliches but honestly when you are having this much fun, does it really matter? Why quibble over small faults when you will genuinely have a complete and utter blast playing the game?I absolutely cannot recommend this game enough. And unfortunately, it's one of those games that will end up like Ico or Beyond Good and Evil where no one hears of it and no one plays it.Don't let that happen.Play this game because its games like this that the industry needs to keep creating.

A must buy.Creative and excellent. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars And In This Corner, the Undisputed Champ!
EA's Fight Night Round 2 does a great job of mixing simulation depth with arcade-style fun.As a result, you can decide how in-depth you want the game to be and play it to your tastes, giving it very broad appeal.

The depth shines most during career mode, where after signing on to an upcoming fight, you get to control your prep both in and out of the ring. For instance, you begin by picking your entourage, from trainer to cutman to even ring girl. Each one will provide different benefits to your performance during the big event, but as any pro knows, they also cut into your take of the prize money. You've got to budget yourself wisely or else you'll end up getting title shot with no money to hire much-needed help.Next, it's on to training, where you select from a menu of mini-games that can boost your attributes for that fight. It's a good idea, but the training itself isn't much fun. Finally, you can equip your fighter with new gear to help boost his abilities even further (and to just look cool) before stepping into the ring. You can even buy skills like new finishing punches, taunts, dances, etc.Of course if you just want to get on to the toe-to-toe action, you can also bypass all of this prep.

Once you're in the ring, you've got an unprecedented amount of control. The left analog stick controls your body movements while the right controls your punches. Many of the more devastating blows are triggered by a series of right-stick movements, i.e. pushing to the right then quickly rolling down and then up for a right-handed haymaker hook.So much was made of this punching scheme by other reviews, but I was completely frustrated by it for the first week or so.Then, just like riding a bike, I suddenly got the timing down and now I love it.The punch controls feel very natural and have a realistic sense of timing, i.e. they prevent you from just repeatedly hammering on your opponent like the old button-press setups too often allowed.Blocking and defense also uses the right-stick in conjunction with one of the shoulder buttons, and is just as deep - you can block, parry, counter and also sway/duck to make an opponent miss. And when you get him to miss, look out because he'll be wide open waiting for you to deliver the knockout blow.

Speaking of knockouts, the game adds a great touch when either you or your opponent are getting close to going down. The screen gets tunnel-vision and action starts to move a little bit slo-mo;the audio is muffled like you're underwater. It's meant to simulate being punch-drunk and it works. If you can clinch your opponent, you'll usually regain enough stamina to get back to normal, but if you time it poorly, he'll just level you as you approach.

Between the rounds, you have a set amount of time with your cutman (assuming you paid for one in your entourage). He can work on swelling and cuts to try to keep you on your feet for the next round. You've got complete control over what problems he fixes and what part of your face he works on.You've got to instruct him well, because the damage in the game is very realistic, i.e. as your left eye swells more and more, you'll be much easier to hit on that side and better opponents will absolutely take advantage of this.

Visually, the player models and action animations are very good. The overall look of the game is a bit dark, especially the background environments which sometimes seem fuzzy or murky. You're treated to slo-mo replays of the biggest hits throughout the entire fight, and they are extremely detailed - actually, possibly too detailed.I was surprised by how bloody a lot of the action can become.Coupled with the jiggly swagger of the ring girls, this game definitely earns the "Teen" rating.

The announcer is fine, with plenty of sound clips to mix in so that he doesn't get repetitive.

There are modes for quick fight, career mode and create-a-boxer.Many current and recent pros are represented. The create mode benefits from the same depth that EA put into the other aspects of the game, and you can create some really interesting characters.

Overall, this is an exceptionally deep game - far and away the most thought ever put into a boxing game. From the control in the ring to the mini-games in the training facility to the gear shop where you get decked out, you'll feel like you're vying for that undisputed belt.

PROS
*Once mastered, punch control allows for great action
*TOns of depth with career mode and create-a-boxer
*Good boxer models and very smooth animations

CONS
*Steep learning curve on punch and block controls will frustrate some
*Opponent AI is generally good, although most boxers will still fall victim to a "wild man" offensive strategy
*Bloody fight visuals and bikini-clad ring girls make this not the right choice for everyone's kids.

im actually above 13.Anyway this game is awesome the graphics are perfect.they got classic players like Muhammad Ali,George Foreman, and some more classic players. They also got alot new school players. The sound is great. The gameplay is awesome. The controls are hard to learn at first...it took me like 1 or 2 hours to get a hang of the controls, but i got used to them. Its (...) its worth it all!I dident like boxing that much but now i love it after i played this game. Its improved alot sense the last fight night game. They got haymaker on this game its were a boxer puts all his power in a punch. When a round is over on this game your boxer probly will look beat up pretty bad so you can heal your boxer a little bit were you can lower the swelling and stop the bleeding. Also when you get knocked down in a fight you have the count to 10 to get back up so you have to stop the dizzyness somehow to get back up it gets more harder every time you get knoced down. The matches can get pretty intense, especially when the two players are about to go down. The story mode is fun you customize your own player and can buy new gear for him when you get the money. But when you get to like the age of 30 or 40 you will just start loosing and your whole career will go downhill and it hurts more when you have some titles and someone beats you and they take over.So BUY this game it rocks you will not regret it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fight Night Part Deux
'Fight Night Round 2' is an improvement upon the original.I won't go into to its many updates because they've been done in every other review here. But my problem with this game, as with all boxing games, is that there is never any 'science' to the sweet science of boxing.

Though it has many more bells and whistles, 'FNR2' is just like every other previous boxing game in respect to the use of defense. You can climb the ranks and bash the crap out of opponents and really never have to put up your guard. You can throw 300 punches a round and though you'll get tired, you can still pretty much keep raining down the fury on opponents. The addition of the haymaker was interesting, but is much to easy to land.In real boxing, when a boxer throws a wild punch he'll very rarely land it.Usually, he misses and gets beat on for trying. But not in 'FN2'.You can throw haymaker after haymaker and rarely have to pay the piper.

Now, I'm not totally bashing this game.It is fun to play, the graphics are excellent(especially the damage on fighter's faces), the cornerman in between rounds is also a nice addition, and the replays are usually pretty brutal. All in all, 'FNR2' is a fun game.Is it worth the $50 price tag?Probably not.I'd recommend waiting till you can find it for $20.

4-0 out of 5 stars stick and move!!!
The parry system is a problem but i can get by ok... My main gripe is the cpu throwing haymakers. The cpu will close in on you and swing until you fall which utterly crazy but other than that it's a great game! if you can get past the haymakers and find the right strategy against the parry you'll be able to school anybody and cpu like Winky Wright did to Felix Trinidad!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just play the game.
If you are like me, then you may be tired of people sharing their lists about the pros and cons of every game they play. Rather than giving you a play-by-play analysis of the game, I will ask you one simple question: Are you looking for a fun game with high replay value? If your answer is "yes," then you will definitely enjoy Fight Night Round 2.

The Bottom Line: This game has a great career mode, and the boxing action is fantastic!

3-0 out of 5 stars I agree with naz's review
overall the last game was better than this new one the fighting in my opinion feels glitchy and i feel the game doesnt run as smooth as the last one although the graphics have improved thats not enough to make me like this one more than the first ...id wait till the price drops on this one if your still interested in buying anyways..because over all its still an ok game

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Game With a Few Monumental Flaws
Fight Night round 2 is so frustrating because this should have been a game that was head and shoulders above every other boxing game created so far as well as almost any other sports game out there. It is still a good game but falls far short off the greatness that was so easily within reach. Here's my take on the many highs and major lows:

Why is the Game so Much Fun...
a) Punching control/delivery, movemnet, and response to punches landed are wonderfully delivered. Graphics are top notch, and the soundtrack while not quite as good as the previous version in my humble opinion isn't bad.
b) The create a boxer mode has tons of possibilities and offers hours of entertainment as you create a boxer that can look like almost anything you can imagine (within reason off course!!) and fight your way to the top in different weight classes.
c) Playing with a friend (or foe!!) isgreat and for boxing fans, this is probably as close as you can get to living the dream of big time boxing without actually getting your block knocked off.
d) Different add-ons, like tattos, different types of apparell, ring entrances and cute ringgirls can make for an ecclectic colorful boxer and entrance.
e) While it doesn't appear to really have a direct impact to the outcome of a match, the cuts, briuses, as well as the cutmen in your corner make it seem realistic and remind you that your boxer is taking or dishing out a grand beating as the case may be!!!
f)You can now protect your boxer while he is moving foward or backwards. Great addition.
g)A boxer in trouble can now clinch to stop the pummeling!!!

EA Missed the Boat...
a)Parrying a punch which was included in the previous game was quite interesting. If it was pulled off correctly, it gave the parryer a slight opening to land a punch. Even when you did parry a punch a quick opponent could escape damage if you weren't quick to strike. When a punch is parried here (FN Rd 2) the boxer inexplicably drops his hands down to his side, and literally sticks his head out for about 2-3 seconds!!!!!! This is completely asinine!!!!! Also as soon as the AI is close to being knocked out, 8 out of 10 punches you throw are going to be parried. So a person is more able to defend himself when he is close to being knocked out?!?!?! Oh behave!!!! Yeah that makes a lot of sense.

b)Inclusion of the HAYMAKER: while this might have seemed like a good idea, it definitely did not translate to anything positive in this game. In fact I will go as far as to say that this is the single most negative, and worthless addition to the game. It single handedly destroys, and downgrades the game play against the games AI. It is understandable that especially in the heavyweight class, a single well placed punch thrown with the full force a boxer can muster could knock an opponent out. However there is a reason boxers don't go around throwing HAYMAKERS. You can see them coming from a mile away, you can't throw them in combinations, and they wear you down really fast. Neither one of these apply to the AI in this game, so you have a situation were an opponent throws HAYMKERS in a rapid stacatto fasion!!!! Totally rediculous!!! Combine this with the previously discussed parrying flaw and a fight against a fairly competent AI oponent would go something like this: You throw one punch it get's parried and your boxer puts down his hands and sticks his head out, boom, boom, boom, you get hit by 3 haymakers. This is repeated over and over (AI never tires of throwing haymakers off course), till either you get knocked out or you dance around your opponent till the match ends, afraid to throw a single punch.

Have you all noticed that anytime a game maker introduces a special move; especially difficult for a human to complete, which has the propensity to drastically change the outcome of a game, that game invariably becomes a mess. This in no exception.

Playing this game with a friend hides it's worst flaws, and here the game really shines as it can provide hours of fun and entertainment; beating each other sensless without actually loosing any teeth. However playing against the AI at any serious level is indeed a lesson in futility, which quickly becomes distracting. Perhaps EA got lazy and took the easy way out towards the end who know?.....

3-0 out of 5 stars Some improvements from the original version...
So, I rented the game before I bought round II. I don't think the developers did enough to justify a part II to an awesome original release. If you think you'll be blown away by the graphics just like you were with version 1, think again. I liked the gameplay [which has not changed, thank god]. I didn't see many enhancements besides closeups of KO's and better sound management. Other than that, the fighters are the same, no new editions. The graphics have improved, but not as much as one would have expected. I would not pay full price for this game... I think the used market on this will be very cheap once the release has been around for more than a month or two. I like version wayy better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Throw on your best *bling* and let's get it on!!
NFL street 2 Unleashed is a beautiful, brilliant example of what Sony's new baby the PSP has to offer. It combines hardcore gridiron action action, with gameplay as smooth as butter. There are many types of game modes to choose from including: Own the city, where you must create your own pimped out player, pull together a team from your hood, and dominate the streets one field at a time. Be sure to choose your players wisely. The game is also accompanied by hot new tracks from some of your favorite hip-hop artists. The fun never really ends until your eyes shrivel down to grapenuts, or your battery dies. (Pesky battery.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Paper Mario is fun
if you liked the first game get this, paper mario is one of the best non sqaresoft rpg for gamecube it has tons of fun things to do and you get to go on after you "beat" the game! (the arena is the best =D)

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is the best game I ever played.I also played the nintendo 64 version of paper mario to.Every one must get this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars A kiddy game that adults will actually laugh at? Wow.
Back in the Nintendo 64 days, Mario, Nintendo's mascot, was in the uber-successful Mario 64. And pretty much since then Nintendo's been trying to have it's "sequel" or successor. They did that with Mario Sunshine but it probably wasn't what we had in mind. Paper Mario was released then and it had Mario and Co. as 2D characters in 3D backgrounds so Mario was essentially paper-thin literally. We now have the "sequel" to the original and it vastly improves on the original.

Story: One would be pretty stupid to try and think the Mario storylines were deep or original. Princess Toadstool is kidnapped and Mario must save the day by beating Bowser. Well Toadstool has been kidnapped only it's not Bowser's fault. This apparently ties into a treasure map and the mysterious Thousand Year Door.

Graphics: Basically with these kind of games like Wind Waker is that they're beautiful only on a different level. Nowhere near the brightness of Mario Sunshine, the realistic ultra-detailed Resident Evil 4 or the brilliant level design of Metroid Prime but it more than captures the essence of the game.

Sound/Music: Maybe they learned that Mario Sunshine's voice acting was pretty bad so Nintendo isn't even bothering. You still get Mario's "let's-a go!" or "oh yea!" and some other voice samples but nothing full speech. The music isn't immediately catchy but it fits.

Gameplay: All games come down to this. Paper Mario's "gimmick" is that it revolves around, yes, Mario as paper form. In this form he can fold himself into a plane and fly to a far platform, squash himself and launch himself into the air or squeeze through tough spaces.

The battles in Paper Mario unfold on a stage with it's own audience. This probably one of the most unique ideas t
