5-0 out of 5 stars New version of GameGear
This is actually a new version of the SEGA GameGear, this one being made by Majesco around 2000...
It does not support some of the old accessories, and it is black instead of dark grey, also the logo is black and white, instead of color...
My advice:
Try to find an original GameGear if you want to use all the accessores such as the TV Tuner... Otherwise these are newer and may have less of a chance of breaking due to age...

Also:
If you like the Genesis, Majesco makes a console called the Genesis III which is a re-make of the original Genesis (there was a Genesis II made by SEGA for awhile but due to competition from Nintendo, failed)

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!
due like totly awsome game system at a low price that i can buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow...
Game Gear is nice. It's so old, and yet, the first portable system that could challenge it in gaming and display is the very recent Nintendo DS. Nintendo just released it's first system with a backlight (Game Boy Advance SP had a front light) and this thing, about the same size as a folded DS, came out years ago. It's sad really. Sega made much better stuff than Nintendo, and now it's stopped making consoles. Some people out there are going to say "Nintendo sucks NERD!" but they're wrong. They're right that I'm a nerd, but wrong that Nintendo sucks. Nintendo is not loved by as many people anymore, but it definitely has the best consoles out now. I can safely say that if Sega hadn't stopped making consoles, they would be releasing amazing systems. Anyway, back to the Game Gear. Everyone's said this, but Game Gear is to batteries as an H2 is to gasoline. Maybe worse. It takes 6 of your precious overpriced AA's and doesn't last as long as the Nintendo portables. Of course, this is an old system, so you should allow it your forgiveness.
Bottom line: Cheap, good(amazing when you consider it's age), but bad with your batteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Game System
I just bought my Game Gear 6 months ago. It's better than a Game Boy beacause its screan is backlit!(you can barley see the screan on a Game Boy Advance).Plus you can buy a TV tuner for it too!([...])

5-0 out of 5 stars The Prime, Stunning, Superior, Whiz-Bang Sega Game Gear!
There is no doubt about it, the Game Gear put out by Sega is the greatest handheld console ever!Cooler than Gameboy Advance, the Game Gear has a color screen, and has a built in back light so you can play it at night! We always take it with us on long drives, playing the greatest games! (Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six, Jungle Book, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more than 200 other games!)With today's technology, the Game Gear may look like chopped liver! You can look anywhere, but mostly every game gear game is way cheaper than those gameboy games! The games are less violent than today's games, and they have more imagination put into them. It's a great investment, a great way to relax and take your mind off of life's troubles.I certainly will keep my Game Gear forever!Get one, and enjoy every minute of it!

4-0 out of 5 stars how come game gear never got popular?
We have the tv tuner for our Game Gear system. It's great!Kids can watch tv at the beach or the park.I don't know why Game Gear never became as popular as Nintendo's Gameboy, especially with the tv tuner accessory and the backlight feature.I think Sega's Game Gear was also the first color hand held out there.Oh well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well the TV Tuner
from what I understand only works with the original GameGear systems that Sega made. The GameGear units made by Majesco Sales Inc., the box states its NOT compatible with the TV tuner for the game gear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Game Gear can also be a TV!
Did you think that Game Gear, the only handheld with a back light, was only to play games in the dark? If you did, you were wrong. Game Gear can become a color TV. Yes, just pull those bunny ears up and you can get your favorite non-cable channels. This item is great for car rides... if you get sick of playing Sonic 2 (impossible to beat! :O( ) then just whip out a TV and watch Ricky Lake, or The Jerry Springer Show. Your car trip will be over in no time! If you have a Game Gear, I suggest you get the TV Tuner. Its a great item. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Why did......

gamegear was a good system. honestly, it was exellent, but those stupid game makers(not counting sega) didn't give it support(it's happening kind of with the DS with Ping Pals and Sprung, Spider man, and ridge racer.). it's pretty good. It has a color screen, but the screen suffered from blurring. I have one. it had accesories like magnifiers, TV tuners and more. It had ports, but the ports were kind of bad. it's really good, but the battery life is short, but it was not as bad as the nomad, a battery eater.

it was pretty good underarted system. look places like used sellers to find one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better then Game Boy
The Sega Game Gear may have less games and accesories than the Nintendo Game Boy, however, I think the 100 available is enough. I own a Game Gear and have played many Game Boys and would say that the screen quality is twice as good. First of all the screen is slightly larger on the game gear, second of all the screen dosen't have to be in perfect position with the light for you to see the screen, third of all it costs less. The disadvantageis that it is larger and takes more batteries (not to say that the Game Boy doesn't take it's fair share). It all comes down to this get the bigger Game Gear for LESS MONEY and have a BETTER PICTURE, BETTER SOUND, slightly BIGGER SCREEN, and have less games or get the Game Boy and have worse sound, worse picture, and a smaller screen with the advantage of more games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
As with anything there are pros and cons, this especially applies to hand held gaming systems.Since it's obviously Game Gear against Game Boy and I have both, I'll list things I do and don't like about each.

Game Gear:Cons - Not as portable, battery runs out fast than Game BoyPros - MUCHbetter screen quality than Game Boy, you can use this system in pitch blackdark.

Game Boy: Cons - IMO the screen quality was severelydisappointing, you have to have direct light in just the right place to beable to see anything, The game quality was also disappointing because inmost games it looks comparable with a Super Nintendo and at times even anoriginal Nintendo.Pros - Much smaller size, system comes in differentcolors (if that matters, it doesn't to me), doesn't go through batteriesquite as fast although it takes up it's share.

So you see it's really upto the person that will be playing it.As of now both systems are the sameprice.I have a Game Gear system with a battery pack so I rarely have tomess with changing batteries, I just plug it in to an outlet to rechargeafter it's been played.Anyways, it's up to the individual and I hope youenjoy whatever you buy =o)

4-0 out of 5 stars Game Gear Good or Bad
Game Gear by Sega is a fairly good portable gaming system it's only drawback is that it uses battery power too fast and it doesn't fit all that well in your pocket but if you don't want to carry it around all the timethis system is for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have a Game Gear, you NEED this
Sega Game Gear is a great system for people on a budget (Or people who simply like the games better than GameBoy games) but it has one true vice: the batteries. Because of it's backlit screen, the batteries get used up way too quickly. An AC adaptor is the best way to get constant playing time, not to mention it saves TONS of money. Believe me, it's worth the cost of buying it at a more expensive price now, because it will pay for itself in all the batteries you will save.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Third Game Gear
well it is my THIRD that should tell you how good it is.Bought my first one way back in the late 80 or very early 90.One was stolen - broke my heart - one, my grandchildren broke and now it is time to once again get my own. I have all the Sonic Games, actually more FUN compared to todays, for its size, the COLORS and SOUND one could call it a midged PS2 - i also play one of those, compared to any other HANDHELD? NO CONTEST! The LIGHTING is superb - my eyes can attest to that, i had them for 66 yearsno peripheral to accommodate is needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have
The game gear eats batteries up fast,so, an adapter is really necessary. ... Read more
